So I just found out about this upcoming film by a director named Morgan Cooper called Bel-Air, which is like a reimagining of Fresh Prince of Bel-Air. It looks pretty interesting. I'm also planning to start a YouTube Channel and do reviews, gaming, and skits when my broke ass can get some money for equipment. Tell what you guys think about the trailer and my script for a review of it. Is it good is it ass in regard to both the actual trailer and my script.
Bel-Air Trailer
Bel-Air Trailer Impressions and Analysis Draft 2
Introduction
So Bel-Air, an upcoming Drama film reimagining the classic 90s sitcom Fresh Prince of Bel-Air. I had no idea this was a thing until I saw Will Smith talking about it on his YouTube Channel. I also had no idea that Will Smith’s YouTube channel was a thing before I saw this video on my YouTube homepage as a matter of fact.
Start the Trailer letting it play from 0:00-0:48
So starting off we see Will being reproached by his mother about an incident. This trailer waste no time in making it readily apparent that this is taking on a different tone than the original series. We saw get into this fight in the intro of the original series but it was just a snippet of what happened and it was shown in a humorous light. I heard on Will Smith’s video about this film is that its taken place in modern times, which is pretty common when it comes to reiterating previous works. I’m perfectly with this. The core themes that were explored in the original sitcom such as race, identity, and adjusting to a change in your life can be translated into any time period.
Play from 0:48-1:1:37
Here is something else I find worthy of not is that Will is showing a disinclination towards moving to Bel-Air. The pilot episode sort of just had Will moving in and not being anything alluding to reluctance, he sort of just came in, he was always a fish out of water with the way he dressed, his general mannerisms and predilections. This can show another side of that coin by showing the anxiety and frustration that such a significant change to one’s life moving somewhere unfamiliar can bring.

1:38-2:18
I’ve noticed that the trailer is working on the expectation that viewers will already be familiar with the characters with not all their names being used. There is just those hints perfectly accessible to people who know about the show. The old man chiding Will is Uncle Phil. The lady that was talking about going shopping is Hilary. I can see the family dynamic being carried over from the original series. Uncle Phil have no tolerance for Will lapses Aunt Vivian being more patient and understanding. There’s an argument between Carlton and Will. They always loved heads due to their clashing mannerisms with Carlton being more genteel and Will seeing him as a snob as a result. Their bickering was usually played for laughs but here with the more sober atmosphere the animosity between the two is going to be cranked up significantly.
2:20-2:23
I’m not quite sure who this is suppose to be. A new character? He seems like he’d get thrown out a house pretty often.
2:23-2:45
Here it seems that film will go into Wills potential in Basketball. His talent in the sport something that was hinted at in a handful of episodes and it seems that it’ll be pretty significant here especially his potential to have a future in it.
2:45-3:19
Here the trailer is going to a shift in tone showing that Will can really find happiness in Bel-Air. The woman here may be Lisa who was Will’s final love interest in the series or it could be a new character.3:20-3:30 I wonder if that guy with the sunglasses will get thrown out the school.
Final Thoughts
Overall I think this series will be an interesting take on a classic. I’m interested in seeing how this film will reinterpret and deconstruct what was conveyed in the original sitcom. There are a lot of different episodes in the original show they can pull from. The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air was a comedy but there was a faucet to it that had depths exploring identity and race and also situations and societal matters like racism, being out of touch due to one’s social standing, family, all that can translate well into a more serious take on a classic sitcom. Anyway. I’m going to close the video here. I’d love to hear what you guys think about it in the comment section below, did you grow up with Fresh Prince what do you think of this reimagining. Like and Subscribe if you enjoyed the video, goodbye and take care.
