Mkay, i just got off the phone with my friend nate who is an avid DMC fan. and waited in line for DMC 4 (devil may cry). In this waiting (of which i was there too) we had a conversation as to who are the greatest. Who is the Greatest Villain of all time? Who is the best hero? Now he is very stubborn and quite stupid, not seeing the reason behind my logic, and simply chose w/o thinking, Dante as his favorite hero, and sephiroth as the baddie. Me on the other hand said that the great CONNOR MACLOUD was and always will be the greatest hero. and as for the villain. I had to go with Agent Smith. i mean, connor is pure badass, and the matrix is the shit? who are your choices, and what do you think? |

I agree on Connor McLeod. Duncan is weak sauce... Though I haven't seen the TV series, maybe he's better there, it gets a high rating. Of course that could be because of Methos, who we will all agree kicks ass. Best villain... Azazel (movie = Fallen). |

I agree with Smith being the best Villain. As for best hero I'd go for Squall (FFVIII). |

Perfect Hero - TIED - Mario Mario - Sonic The Hedgehog Mario has never been a villain (save for Donkey Kong Jr, but that doesn't count). He's always used his power for the greater good, no second thoughts, no regrets, and the most devotion I've ever seen to one girl. Sonic has always been on the side of good. He's faster than Mario, stronger than Mario, and more durable than Mario (one ring rule). He can adapt to meet the requirements of a situation (Super/Hyper Sonic) and spares the life of his enemies (Robotnik, attempted to save Metal Sonic, Knuckles, Chaos, Shadow, Silver, the list goes on and on). Perfect Villain - Chibi Buu Chibi Buu fights without pride, without remorse, with nothing to lose. The only thing he cares about is winning, and he's psychotic in the manner in which he fights. He was one of the weakest Buus, but the hardest one to handle. Since he has no pride or remorse, he won't give his opponents mercy, or monologue mid battle. Chibi Buu has no weakness. You can only beat him by being stronger than him. |

I'd have to get back to you on best hero. I've never been one for heroes. Best villain? That's easy. Sir Crocodile, from One Piece. The guy did everything right that a villain can do, and then some! He was just so god damn evil, and sadistic, even moreso than pervious villains. The way he taunted Vivi time and again, and the fact that his taunts were never smacked down right there, like I see alot of heroes do. His evil speeches were never stopped by some hero who would then kick his ass and show him just how wrong he is about the indominable human spirit, and crap like that (not counting his defeat, of course). He just had some an oppresive presence to him; he always felt so impossible, so above the heroes and everything they tried to do to stop him. Trying to stop his machinations felt like more of a struggle than thwarting any other villain in the series. Croc's plan B's and contigencies, as well as his psychological tactics and elaborate plans just felt like far more to overcome, and it felt far less likely that they would. While part of you knew the heroes would beat him, logically, it felt impossible. One moment that still sticks with me is when he admitted to being the one bombarding Yuba with sandstorms. The way he first revealed it was fantastic ("do you really think that sandstorms would continue to hit the same town over and over?!"), and the fact that he never ACTUALLY said he did, but that it was implied, was such classy writing. And WHY he did it! Just to spite an old man he saw as foolish, and because he has the power to do so! That's pure evil! The man himself just has such an air to him. That mafia crime boss look furthers his "I'm above you" image. His pirate coat is fur, instead of a plaijn old coat, he's decked out in fancy clothes and gaudy jewelry, and he, himself, is a big man. Even stacked against current villains, he still looks superior. Those unique eyes of his, too, were a fantastic aesthetc. He always looked apathetic; like he was completely indifferent to all the suffering he was causing. Ryuzamburo Otomo (hope I spelled that right) was such a perfect voice for him. His voice oozed pure evil, to the point where even his laugh had no soul to it. No joy. When he taunted Vivi by saying that, while they destroyed each other, the main though of all the warring peoples of Alabasta was "we will protect Alabasta", Otomo's low, ominous growl perfectly complimented it. You felt the ominous presence of what he had put into motion, and what he said hit home. You knew he was right, too. This wasn't some villain who underestimated the hearts of men, or some shit. He didn't underestimate anything. He caused so much pain and suffering, and he used the people's own righteousness to do it. I always loved that. The power he, himself, held impressed me so damn much. First off, the innovative use of SAND as an ultimate power blew me away, and just showed how damn innovative Oda is. His powers were absurd; he was practically invincible, and almost every one of his special attacks were fatal, or potentially so. Most characters, up until then, just had specials that hurt bad. Not Croc. His Desert Girasole would bury you alive, his Desert Spada would cleave huge, bottomless gashes in the earth, his Sables would create devestating sandstorms, and if that wasn't enough, he could use sand as a friggin' BOMB (Sables Pesado). Hell, the guy had an instant death maneuver, in that he could dry you to death with his right hand, or even more badass, he'd turn into a sandstorm and dry EVERYONE around him to death in mere moments. Drying people to death was such a perfect way to do it, too; the image of his shriveled victims was horrific, and seeing them rapidly die, in a sense, in his hands was perfect evil imagery. The guy's still one of the series' most powerful characters, and not only does that make him awesome, but it's a plus for One Piece, in my eyes; I love seeeing a series where the villains aren't always stronger than the previous ones. That's always been an irksome cliche, to me. It's liek each new villain throws the previous one to the wayside, and totally compromises any badass factor they may have had. Oda doesn't make every villain just own the previous one, he makes them different (and sometimes more powerful, of course), and I like that. Man, I went on for awhile, didn't I? Eh, I do that, sometimes (plus, it filled some unused time I had on my hands =D). But, as a guy who's always preferred villains, Sir Crocodile has always been my favorite villain, period, of all time. The guy did so much right, in terms of villainy, he's the ultimate example of how to do evil characters, no question. |

Eh, I found it goofy, really. But, I've never really liked Stanley Kubrick. Still can't think of a good hero, though. Best I can give is best protagonist, and though I'm loathe to reference anime again, Spike Speigel of Cowboy Bebop wins that hands down. The cast of that series, Spike especially, were so wonderfully three-dimensional, and full of personality and depth. Spike never succumbed to bouts of corniness that many protagonists, hero characters especially, are hit by. I'd rant on more like I did before, but I don't have a ton of spare time this time, and I'm tired as all hell... |
