alright this is getting gay. I made the first post and FG hasn't even been on for over 24 hours. I think that constitutes some kind of penalty on his part. What's to stop someone (him or any other competitor) to wait to continue their battle all 4 days and make a post in the last few hours, leaving it up to a vote that they have an equal chance of winning? doesn't seem fully cooked to me. I'm thinking turns should be forfeited for every 24 hours that past between posts. This way, they can still win but will have to actually come back and work harder for their missed time. I mean, he knew when the tournament started like everyone else about a half a month ago.

Don't be too hasty. I had to wait till a little earlier for Kui to actually post the battle. If we need a rule like that though then 48 hours rather than 24. That gives them two days to post out of the four days total.

well all that I know is that when 2:30 PM rolls around tommorow, It will have been 2 entire days that I have been free to battle and frequently checking the thread for activity with no results and that is enough ANYWHERE for a docking of points or (in this case,) a forfeited turn.

I'm bored without a post from my opponent. I'm slowly getting back into the swing of fighting. I hope I win my first round. Getting 100+ more words than my opponent in my post oughta count for something.

well actually it'll count for shit in the long run. It's about substance. If he can RP circles around you and make us feel like we know his character's every thought process and painstaking blow of the battle in 300 words minimum, it really doesn't make a difference. You could make a 2,000 word post and not hit home like your opponent might with his 300 word one. It's about content and RP ability. Not trying to be a buzz kill. Think of it as helpful correction from the jedi, to the padawan.

dude, you're talking to someone who has been rping for nearly 11 years...haha. I could have left it at 300 words, but I needed to show how Pan is seeing the environment around her. If I had been able to condense it down to 400 words or less, then I definitely would have. I'm merely saying I'm proud of my accomplishment, I have not done a 750+ word post in forever. I think I'm allowed to be a little proud of it. Back when I roleplayed DBZ, length got you the win, but you got well-known for how you roleplayed, how it read. So yeah. Go me. whoo. Now to wait for Broli to post so I have something to do rather than hang around the Pub all day.

okay well before you get all (veteran) on me, know this: A lot of RPers in this RPG COULD have done what you did better and in less words. It's somethign we all here have to face and it helps us constantly strive for perfection, making us better all the time. Now IDK what crackpot RPG you were in that dealt victories for length but they were sadly aackwards bass if that's how they conducted business. whether you're proud of your accomplishments or not, I'm pretty sure that you were obviously just trying to let your Ref know to keep in mind that your post was longer in hopes of winnign his favor and as a true RP veteran of ALEXS, I can truly tell you that your ref most likely will not take this into account when ruling on your battle. So again, lengthmeans almost nothing in Roleplaying and if you are a RP veteran of 11 years than you ought to know that more than me. Funny thing is that you don't seem to. Being that you think 100+ words over your opponent would be a notable triumph. Although, I can see where this would come to be common though having spent 10+ years in an RPG like the one you have previously described. There...now that that has been said, I mean no harm, just to make a message clear to you and anyone that might be reading. And that's it...bye now lol

Length really means nothing in the long run. A noob who knows how to make thing's long can have 3000+ words and all of it is crap and yet, advice like I gave to a friend who actually used it to an advantage, you can fight someone with a 3000+ word roleplay. All you have to do is have 300 words of much better quality and you'll win. Sure, my post was about 2,000 words but I have a horrible habit of writing about the smallest details.

Long posts don't = quality but Long posts doesn't = lack of quality either. It all depends on the roleplayer in general. I myself have no been rping about three years, probably less cause I stopped for many months at one point. The thing to do is aim for quality over quantity. For me, I have long posts but it's because I go with the flow. I don't worry about length, I just get all I want to be in my rp in and make sure I'm using grammer and punctuation to the best of my effort. What comes out comes out.

Who ever said I played on a website? The way that I played a few years back, if you posted less or equal to what your opponent had, that was BAD. It meant the battle could go into a stalemate. I'm sorry if my old habits are dying hard, but when I roleplayed, having so many words over my opponent means my attack is stronger than my opponent's and such like that. If I were to show one of my old RP buddies the first two attacks in the battle, they would rule that my attack would have a better chance of hitting because of the length. Quality is all well and good, but how I roleplayed is in a chat room, where you did not have all the time in the world to make a post, so you had to make it good, and you had to make it lengthy.

I think your problem is you think this message board roleplay is the only way to roleplay. My dear friend, that is not the case.

Also, if length did not matter, why would there be a word minimum? Anyways, I hardly want to fight, I just think it odd that you say length doesn't matter but then, bloop, there's a minimum word count.

And like I said, if I felt I could have said what I did in my post with fewer words/sentences/paragraphs I would have. Don't tell me someone else could have done so, that is besides the point. The point is me, feeling fulfilled in my post. And if I am going to be criticized for being proud of a post length I have not whipped out since 2005, then go ahead and sue me. I only said it had to count for something because it shows effort. I did not even PLAN on having a higher post count, it just came out that way.

Anyways, again, I do not want to have an argument. I like this site, and I'm trying to let my old habits die, but it is difficult.

Long story short: I am used to well-thought out, lengthy posts in fights/battles/spars, and i think I am allowed to be proud of myself for putting in the extra effort to make sure the reader knows what the hell is going on.

I wasn'r really critizing you. I barely read half of what Gokua said myself cause it's all jumbled together. I will argue though that length means nothing. Yes, there is a minimum requirement because who wants to read a quest with five posts of one sentance each post, seriously? All I was saying was that if someone has a post with great quality but it's short v.s. a post with a huge length but little quality, the lesser length is going to be the victor either way just because of the better quality.

I didn't say there was anything wrong with length though. I mean look at my fight with Kui. My post is over double his in length and it's cause like I said, I go with the flow when I rp. I don't care how long it turns out as long as I do all that I planned on doing in the post and described it to the best of my efforts so that the mental picture in the readers mind is as accurate as possible. I'm not trying to argue with you my good Pan, just giving advice. Like I said, I didn't pay attention to half Gokua said cause its all jumbled together.

I'd have to agree. I've seen smaller posts with better quality than longer ones before.

And Yamu, your post was incredibly long :o.

As for the time I think the judges will keep everything in mind. Though I agree somewhat.

Like I said, bad habit. I go with the flow so I don't realize how long my post is till it's too late.

I never planned on the word length. I just found that it was suddenly going into another page on Microsoft word and I thought 'well..damn...if other people have to read this they'll probably get bored, all I'm doing is describing the terrain and how Pan feels about her opponent.'

Looking at my post, I feel the last couple of paragraphs were horribly rushed to get an attack in. But it's not like i could have waited for my next post to attack lol.

Anyways, I'm probably in a bad(ish) mood because I'm in pain, none of my pain meds are working, and I feel tired but I can't get to sleep (I tried for about 2 hours to fall asleep. I probably dozed maybe once or twice)

I am of course not saying shorter posts suck, far from it. Roleplaying House MD I've found I can get something across with few words. But, the person I roleplay with knows what everything looks like, they know House's character. Here, no one really knows how I'm formulating Pan in my head, so I have to put in the extra effort to give her a personality that I feel fits her better than she was given in GT.

'kay, let's all be friends now! ^_^

Wow what the hell just happened?

I think we got the point across as how quality is better than quantity.

Anyway about the time limit thing, I think points will be deducted. I don't know whats taking 16 so long. I'm going to try and talking to me later. I can understand how having the wait for a reply for days would be very annoying. I'm rather excited about my battle...

Well the point deduction bit is up to the refs but as for the 24 or 48 hours and kip a turn, not gonna happen. Their penalty is not getting the points for rp. You get rp points per post so if you only do 1, it's really not worth it. The gains aren't enough to purposly wait.

What if an emergency pops up and a competitor is unable to post? Do they have to forfeit? (I ask because I am scheduled for surgery early next month...and even though I doubt I'll get very far in the tournament, it is a possibility)
