A contract has been put out on Kami's Apprentice. The next Guardian of Kami's Lookout it seems. You will be payed a great deal of money to take him out. But can you live with yourself?

POST ONE
Since Pumpkin’s arrival on Earth, he has started to make something of a name for himself. Unlike back home on Vegeta, where he was just another meat shield-grunt, here he was something truly special…he was feared.

Despite Roshi’s best efforts to rub off on the Saiyan, Pumpkin always managed to muck things up. If Roshi sent him off to save a princess, Pumpkin would accidentally drop her off a cliff. If he was sent to save a village, he inevitably burned it to the ground… Save someone, he would kill someone… Protect something, he would destroy something… etc…
In Pumpkin’s defense it really wasn’t his fault. He was never the brightest bulb of the Vegeta legions and his perception of reality was always a little warped. Despite that his intentions were always the best… there was no doubting that Pumpkin was destined to be an agent of chaos. Whether he wanted to or not.

As if called by destiny, Pumpkin was soon visited by a man dressed in all black while he was training with Roshi. The man found Pumpkin while he was alone on the Turtle Hermit’s island and together they spoke in private.

So, you’re Pumpkin? You really are as ugly as they say.

Ugly!? You says Pumpkin is ugly?

Oh, you do speak. Good. I was thought I would have to translate in grunts.

What you say? Why you here? Me no like you.

Relax there big boy. I’m here to make you famous.

The man dressed in black then reached into his robes and pulled out a sack of gold. He jingled it in front of Pumpkin’s face, and the Saiyan went cross-eyed. His mouth dropped open and into a smile and drool formed in the corner of his mouth.

Good. I knew something would get your attention. Now listen closely. Your mission is simple. This gold and more can be yours if you go and kill Kami’s new apprentice. He will be performing a training ritual at a ceremonial temple. He will be all alone.

Again the man reached into his robe and then pulled out a scroll. He handed it to Pumpkin.

Here is the location of the temple. Any questions?

Only what color will he bleed?

POST TWO
It took a while for Pumpkin to decipher the scroll that he had been given. It was immensely cryptic and more like a puzzle than anything. Luckily, despite all of Pumpkin’s flaws, he was actually quite good at puzzles. You would never know it from looking at Pumpkin, or the way that he acts, but he actually had some hidden genius behind that hard exterior. At least enough to finally crack the code of the scroll and find his way to the Temple where Kami’s apprentice was suppose to be.

Hidden deep in the woods and build into a rock face, Pumpkin stood before the temple and was amazed by its intricacy. Pumpkin had never seen such a design. Back home on Vegeta the architecture tended to be more simple, more crude, and overall more practical. This Temple however was beautifully carved. If for anything just for appearances. The concept baffled Pumpkin, but it also brought a sly smile to his face. He saw that the main doors had been left ajar so decided to enter.

Inside was just as beautiful as the exterior. It was lit by torches that someone had recently set ablaze. Pumpkin could hear in the distance, the sounds of someone clattering about. Attempting to be as stealthy as possible Pumpkin crept forward. His awkward body hunched over as he tip-toed toward the sounds.

As Pumpkin did so he looked around and could see that the walls had been carved in elaborate detail. The carvings seemed to be telling a story and as Pumpkin lurched forward he tried to decipher it. It seemed to be the story of the beginning of a world. There were images of a sun conversing with stars, and those stars forming together to form a large orb. The sun then became apart of that orb, and soon people arose on the planet…

Pumpkin continued to glance at the pictures until at the very end he saw the image of 7 round objects being guarded by a figure dressed in robes. Each round ball had a series of stars on it, and the image greatly intrigued the warrior. These were Dragonballs.

But Pumpkin didn’t have time to explore the Temple, he had a mission after all. The Saiyan moved forward and find himself in large round room. He was at the top of a spiraling walkway that hugged the walls of the room and wound around to the bottom floor. There Pumpkin could see a little green man hunched over. He was wearing white robes and fiddling with something on the floor. Pumpkin snarled…it was time to make a name for himself… again…

Hey you! Slimy green man!

The man in the center spun around and looked up at Pumpkin. He had antenna sprouting out of his head, a feature unmistakably Namekian. But to Pumpkin’s surprise the man was actually a boy. Still a teenager to Pumpkin’s eyes. Pumpkin then saw what the youngster had been fiddling with on the ground. It was a sword!

Are you the ancestral guardian I am to defeat in order to prove myself worthy of becoming Earth’s guardian?

Ancestral guardian?

Yes. I have come here to prove my worth by battling ancestral guardians to prove my worth. Are you not the guardian?

The door behind Pumpkin then shut with a rush and the lights in the chamber dimmed dramatically. There was the sound of heavy wind. Pumpkin spun around and tried to open the door but it was sealed shut. Even with his super-strength he could not even make it budge.

Pumpkin spun around and looked down at the green boy. He was crouched and prepared for battle. A light fog began to form in the room and the lights continued to dim. An ominous feeling filled Pumpkin’s gut.

Pumpkin has a bad feeling about this.

The lights then shut out and both Pumpkin and the boy froze. With a bolt the lights then shot back on and to Pumpkin’s surprise he found that the hall was filled with skeletal warriors. Each was dressed in ancient battle armor and wielded a sword and shield. The warriors turned their focus on either the boy or Pumpkin. The Saiyan crouched down ready to kick some skeletal butt.

POST FOUR
Now, Pumpkin had never fought the undead before. He had fought hordes of aliens, pirates, and gang members, but never the undead. So it took him a while to figure out exactly how to defeat them.

The first one he attacked his fist caved in the skeleton’s head in a puff of dust. Having done this Pumpkin turned his back on another one of the warriors, only to have the decapitated warrior stab him in the back. It was a painful lesson to learn, apparently these things didn’t need their heads to keep attacking.

Next Pumpkin tried tearing off their limbs. He tore out arms and legs, flinging them left and right. What he found then was that he had all of these independently moving pieces hobbling toward him and scrapping at his feet. His shins started to sustain quite the injury.

And then Pumpkin was left with only one option: crushing. So Pumpkin took the brunt of his foot and with several mighty blows would crush the skeletal warriors into dust. It was tiring and it was slow work, but after a while Pumpkin actually began to enjoy himself. He came to take special satisfaction every time one of the body parts burst into vapor. He got so good at it, in fact, that he found just the right place on the torso that let him collapse the entire body at once.

And so, after a lot of fussing and a lot of trial-and-error, Pumpkin finally was able to collapse against the Temple wall in peace. He looked around and saw that a fine dust covered the floor and the walls. A few skeletal limbs that had been missed crawled around feebly without any particular intention. Pumpkin then saw a shapely mound under the dust and with a snap remembered his original mission.

POST FIVE
Pumpkin ran over to the mound and dusted away the debris. Underneath was the young Namekian apprentice. He shifted when Pumpkin touched him and then rolled over onto his back moaning. Pumpkin touched the young green apprentice and felt something moist on his hand. He pulled it up and looked at it only to see purple blood. Pumpkin looked down and saw a huge gash in the apprentice’s abdomen. He moaned in pain.

Pumpkin shifted his hands underneath the apprentice carefully and then lifted him up. Methodically and reverently the two walked to the top of the chamber, the apprentice curled up in Pumpkin’s arms. With a mighty kick Pumpkin burst open the chamber doors. He then carried the apprentice through the remainder of the Temple and outside.

Once outside Pumpkin found a shaded spot under a tree and laid the apprentice down in a patch of moss. Pumpkin put his blood and dust-covered hand on the apprentice’s forehead. The apprentice coughed and a small trickle of blood rolled down the side of his mouth.

Thank you for saving me. I don’t know who you are, but thank you. The warriors, they were too much for me. I could’ve of handled them alone. Here…

The apprentice shifted and grabbed the sword that he had attached to his belt. He handed it to the Saiyan. Pumpkin took it with both of his hands and was amazed by its detail and decoration.

So tell me, can I at least know the name of my savior?

Pumpkin.

Pumpkin, and a Saiyan no less. I thought all of you were ruthless killers.

Pumpkin’s eyes flickered between the apprentice and the sword that he held in his hand. And then he was conflicted. More than anything in the word Pumpkin wanted to be a good Saiyan warrior. One that was legendary and respected. But now maybe there was new road. Maybe he could be a savior? A hero to those in need. Is that not the responsibility of one with such power?

No.

Pumpkin glared down and smiled at the apprentice. He then gripped the sword and held it to the apprentice’s throat.

No. Pumpkin is a Saiyan. Pumpkin will always be a Saiyan. Pumpkin is no hero. Pumpkin is… death.

Pumpkin was sure to make the death of the apprentice quick. Unlike most contract kills where he probably would have taken his time, Pumpkin did the job nice and quick. With one strike of his sword he quickly decapitated the apprentice. It was clean, and at the very least a better alternative then just letting the apprentice lay there and bleed to death.

And so with the sword as the evidence of his kill, Pumpkin went and met with his contact at a designated deserted location. Pumpkin handed over the sword and the contact jumped with delight.

Is that the apprentice’s sword!? How wonderful. I never thought I would see the day. Maybe you’re not just a meathead after all.

Me no like you.

Yes, yes, I think we covered that last time.

Money.

Pumpkin held out his hand and demanded the money from the man in black, but he just ignored Pumpkin and kept looking on the weapon.

This sword is so magnificent. I can’t wait to add it to my collection.

Money.

What a pleasant surprise. All of the others will be so impressed.

I said…Money!

Pumpkin then tackled the man and wrestled him to the ground. He placed his hands on both sides of the man’s head and squeezed tightly. The man cried out in pain and a stream of blood poured out of his nose. Pumpkin reached down and grabbed the sword. With a mighty thrust, he buried it in the gut of the man and twisted.

Pumpkin kills! Do you understand? That is what Pumpkin does!

A tear formed in the corner of Pumpkin’s eye and started to roll down his rugged cheek. He glared down at the man and his lips quivered with anger. With the sword, Pumpkin then plunged it in and out of the man’s gut again and again. Blood splattered up in the air and all over Pumpkin’s face.

Heaving, Pumpkin finally stopped and looked down at the shambles of the man that remained. Taking the sword, Pumpkin buried it one final time into the man’s skull. He then searched the man for the money, tore it away, and walked off. Just like that. This journey was over.
