Baba's Ball ball-Crisis

Difficulty: Easy
Reward: +300 zeni +2 DP +14 all stats +2 RP credits
Available: Yes

Fortune teller Baba has had another run-in with Master Roshi. He desperately wanted to watch the Tenkaichi Budokai without actually having to go and Baba's crystal ball proved to be just the right tool for him. Careless as he is, however, he fell asleep in the middle of the first-round battles and knocked the ball from his table, breaking it in half. Baba can arrive any minute with the snacks she was out to get for the matches and she will surely take her ball away should she discover this unfortunate calamity.

Your job is to fetch Master Roshi a list of items:

* Attach-Me Super Glue
* Ye Ole Shiny Window Polish
* This months issues of Playboy and Penthouse

On your travels you will need to stay out of the hands of dangerous monsters such as salesmen and roadside ice cream vendors. Will you find the courage to face these wretched demons and be able to fix Roshi's blunder in time? Or will you find yourself a secluded spot to ''read'' the magazines yourself? Find out next time... on Dragon Ball Z!!!

Raditz was flying along, preparing to blast off for Juno, when he spotted master Roshi hauling a motor boat off his island and into the water. Raditz landed, as he had to ask Roshi for some magazines. The Saiyan had to deliver them to some lost Keliouxians on Juno, for entertainment purposes. That, and fuel for fire.

“Hey, master Roshi! What’s going on?” Raditz yelled, landing a few yards away, “Everything alright?”

“Oh, Raditz...” Roshi wiped away a bead of sweat, “Hey, youngster! I’m going to Baba’s house to watch the latest Tenkaichi Budokai, which is going on today... And I need to use Baba’s crystal ball, as I don’t want to have to go to the tournament itself.”

“Oh, okay. I needed some magazines...” Raditz started.

“Ah, right, okay... I lost them all. A thief stole them all - I think it was Oolong...” Roshi said, straining to pull the boat.

“Need help?” Raditz asked.

“Please, son... I wouldn’t mind some assistance, if you can spare a moment,” Roshi said politely.

Raditz walked over leisurely, and pulled the boat straight into the ocean, then helped master Roshi into it. Then, Raditz climbed in after him. Roshi looked strangely at the Saiyan, then thought better of it and started to get the motor going.

They rode along for an hour, before finally hitting land and tying up to a dock. Roshi set off walking, while Raditz floated after him in a comfortable position. Finally, they found Baba’s house. There was a note on the door. It read, in all capital, neat lettering;

‘DEAR ROSHI,
I WILL BE OUT WHEN YOU ARRIVE. I AM GETTING SNACKS FOR WATCHING THE TOURNAMENT – THE KEY IS UNDER THE MAT, GO INSIDE AND HELP YOURSELF, WATCH THE SHOW.
YOUR LOVING SISTER,
BABA’

“Righto! Let’s watch this baby!” Roshi laughed.

Raditz retrieved the keys and opened the door, walking in, followed by Roshi. The crystal ball was mounted on a pedestal, in the center of the table. Roshi waved his arm over it, causing an image of the arena to appear. Suddenly, sound burst out of the ball into the room, knocking Raditz backwards in surprise.

“AND NOW ONTO THE NEXT MATCH!!! PRELIMINARY FIGHTER MIKE, AGAINST MR EDDY!!!” the announcer’s voice boomed. Two fighters appeared, one in Roshi’s training gi (“Mike!” Roshi said) and the other in a tuxedo with a mask. The announcer began the match, “LET THE FIGHT BEGIN!!! 3, 2, 1, GO!!!”

“How did you train Mike?” Raditz asked.

“Oh, you know, the normal. I gave him a training gi and some weights, and he trained harder than you can imagine! One of my best students ever, apart from Goku, of course!” Roshi started laughing.

“Cool,” remarked Raditz. Just by looking, he knew the kid’s power level was around 1,000. Meanwhile, his opponent was 1,500... At least.

For a while, the two watched the match in silence, master and student. Then, Mike scored a hit to Mr Eddy’s head, causing them to erupt in cheering. The crowd was going wild for Mr Eddy, but the announcer seemed to like Mike, same as Roshi had convinced Raditz to cheer for him. Then, the tide turned, and young Mike got pounded down into the ground. The announcer screamed into the microphone, then ran down to do the count.

“1!! 2!! 3!! 4!! 5!!” it seemed all hope was lost. Even the announcer had stopped making remarks, and the crowd was going wild. “6!! 7!! 8!!” it was all over. Raditz sighed. Roshi grunted in anger. “9!! And finally...”

Just before the announcer finished, the ground around Mike trembled, and a golden aura burst forth. He emerged, with enormous muscles, and punched Mr Eddy in the gut! The man flew backwards, hitting the walls.

Roshi and Raditz stopped cheering suddenly.

The mask flew off of Mr Eddy’s face, revealing very sharp and Saiyan-like features. Smiling, he ripped off the tuxedo, revealing a monkey tail. He erupted in an aura of evil, and his hair exploded upwards in golden spikes.

“NO!!!” Roshi yelled, lunging for the crystal ball!

“Stop!!” Raditz warned.

“Wait!!” Roshi yelled, crashing into the crystal ball. It exploded, sending shards everywhere, and abruptly cutting off the sound and image.

The ball was broken. Baba would be home in a single hour, meaning they had little time. Roshi scribbled down a few items on a list, quickly. Raditz read aloud; “Attach-Me Super Glue, Ye Ole Shiny Window Polish, and... The latest Playboy and Penthouse magazines...?”

“For you. You said you needed some magazines, so buy ‘em along with the supplies listed. Here,” added Roshi, throwing Raditz a sack of 50$ in cash.

“Right,” Raditz flew off to gather the listed items.

*

The first challenge he encountered was a salesman. He wouldn’t shut up, talking about his new products, so Raditz finally gave up and exploded, yelling at the man.

“GO AWAY!!! SHUT THE HELL UP AND LEAVE ME ALONE!!!” Raditz yelled, waving his arms, his hands in fists.

“... Not even Attach-Me Super Glue? It’s a special sale, only 10$!” the man said hopefully.

Raditz’s eyes lit up. He checked the list – and yup, he needed that item, so he decided to bargain. “I’ll take it for 5$!”

“Okay, if you go away...” the man exchanged goods for money, then ran for his bloody worthless life.

Raditz sighed. 45$ left. And two items remaining. The Saiyan flew off to find Ye Ole Shiny Window Polish, slightly happy about his deal, but still steaming angry at the salesman.

“Damn it, I need to do this quick...” checking his scouter, Raditz had 49 minutes left.

The Saiyan ran towards Capsule Corporation. Maybe Bulma could help him... Or maybe Trunks, he’d been helpful when Raditz was looking for a training partner.

Suddenly, he crashed into an old lady. She was polishing her windows, but Raditz didn’t care much. He had places to be, so he continued running to his destination. Hopefully someone other than Vegeta or Dr Briefs was home...

Finally, Raditz knocked on the door to Bulma’s house. A few moments later, it opened to reveal Vegeta in a bad mood. Raditz shivered.

“What are you doing here, scum?!” smirked Vegeta.

“I need to see Bulma or Trunks, please. And don’t bother insulting me - it’s urgent,” Raditz said.

Bra appeared at the doorway. After a moment of staring, Raditz came to his senses.

“Well?” he said expectantly, “Where are they?”

Vegeta spoke in a cruel voice, “Fine. Bulma is busy taking a shower. Trunks is in the mega gravitron. He’s under 100x Earth’s gravity - I wouldn’t go in there at your weak level.” The prince sneered.

But Raditz was gone to get to Trunks.

*

At the gravitron, Raditz spoke into the microphone to Trunks, “Um, Trunks... It’s Raditz. Could you help me?”

“Sure,” Trunks’ voice said.

“Do you know where I could find some ‘Ye ole Shiny Window Polish’? I need to get some things for master Roshi...” Raditz asked.

“Uh, I think an elderly lady down the street has some... She should be using it now,” Trunks answered.

“Thanks!” Raditz flew off to find the lady he’d bumped into.

*

When he found her, the bottle was empty and the woman was heading inside to take a nap. Raditz caught her just in time, and flew into a request. The Saiyan didn’t want to waste any time.

“Could I buy some ‘Ye Ole Shiny Window Polish’ for 15$, if you have any?” Raditz asked quickly.

“Sure, sonny,” she answered, “Hold on a moment... Come in, come in...”

Raditz walked into her house and sat down on the couch, then watched her dig around in a cupboard. Finally she emerged with a bottle of the substance he needed. Raditz smiled and got up, holding out both hands.

The lady handed him the polish and took the cash, before Raditz flew off to find those magazines. Hopefully quickly – he was on a 30$ budget with only 23 minutes of time before Baba arrived!

An ice cream vendor stopped him a few blocks away, with a cone of chocolate ice cream. Raditz smiled.

“Sorry,” he apologized, “I can’t, I’m on a tight budget with limited time... Damn, only 20 minutes now! You know where I could find some Playboy magazines, and the latest Penthouse?”

“Hm... I have some here, hold on a moment...” the vendor dug into his bag, emerging with a stack of magazines.

Digging through it, Raditz found a few magazines of what he needed, and took out his bag of cash. The Saiyan smiled and put 25$ on the table.

“That’s for the magazines, thanks!” then, Raditz put the last of his money on the table, “I’d like two cones of chocolate ice cream, with sprinkles. Oh, ya, and make it all swirly and high, k’?”

The man filled Raditz’s order, and the Saiyan was off to find master Roshi.

*

“Thank you, my boy! Or Saiyan, excuse me. Anyways, let’s glue this up, shall we?” Roshi said, starting to glue the pieces.

5 minutes passed, and they were done. Then, Raditz polished it to perfection. They got on the couch and started watching the tournament match-ups as if nothing had happened, waiting for Baba to return.

She returned a few minutes ahead of schedule. ‘Phew,’ thought Raditz, ‘Crisis averted!’
