Krillin woke up one morning in the bed that Master Roshi had let him borrow while he was staying there at Kame House. He slipped on his pants and stood up. He could here talking outside as he slipped on his boots after his socks. He was throwing on the blue undershirt when he walked outside to see what was going on. Outside he saw an old woman standing there talking with Master Roshi. Krillin tossed his red shirt on now over his blue and walked up to the two of them. Curiosity was completely getting him now. He couldn’t figure out if maybe it was a wife, girlfriend, maid, or just a really old student that stood there talking to Master Roshi. “Hey” Krillin said as he approached the two. Krillin noticed something different in the master as he watched the woman talking to him. The old man was standing up straight for once. A stern look was hardened on his face. One of the masters hands were positioned across his chest resting in the crevice inside his other arm’s elbow. That hand was up to his goatee, which he was stroking. The Master Roshi that Krillin saw yesterday was not the old man that stood before him today. The old woman spoke with an elderly shake in her voice. “They destroyed the whole village, Master Roshi. I don’t have any way of getting supplies right now. I seriousily need your help.” “Not a problem at all.” Master Roshi even spoke differently. “I’ll send my most outstanding pupil to you. His name is Krillin. It’s this young strapping lad right here.” Master Roshi brought his arm out and slapped Krillin on his back. Krillin cocked an eyebrow as he usually did when he was either embarrassed or just lost as shit in whatever was going on at the moment. He couldn’t understand what was going on. He looked at the old woman for a minute that came all this way just to ask this old fool for help. He then turned his gaze to Master Roshi, which Krillin just decided not to even attempt to ponder about. |

Krillin listened carefully to Master Roshi as he packed the enormous bag. It went just as accordingly, the old lady would read from the list telling Master Roshi what she needed, then Master Roshi told Krillin, and then Krillin hurried along grabbing the item and throwing it in the bag. The process was long, but the three worked quickly. Well, Krillin worked quickly. Those two just spoke quickly. The bag was filled now. Every item was in it except for a case of water. The one item that they were missing was the most important of the items. The old lady needed water more than anything else out there in the middle of the desert, which was where she lived. That was a bummer to the plan. It was a halt, however. “Krillin!!” Master Roshi shouted. “Yes..?” “You need to go get the water for this young lady, since you forgot to pick up water the other day when you went to town, and since we cannot send her the ocean water that is around here.” Krillin sighed. He couldn’t believe that the old fool was blaming the lack of water on him. He wasn’t even told by Master Roshi to go to town for water. The old bastard told him to go pick up that porn magazine, which was already ruined and tossed in the trash. He just kept his mouth shut and decided to leave the details of the truth out of Master Roshi’s story. “Where do I need to go do that at?” “Well, I would say just run to town, but you are my most outstanding pupil, so I am going to tell you to go take it from one of those gangs that destroyed that village. It shouldn’t be a task hard for you, boy.” Krillin squinted his eyes in disbelief. He looked around him at all the other students that Master Roshi had. All Krillin heard was the noises of crickets and all he saw was nothing, but Hawaiian shirts and porn magazines that were thrown all over the place. He then turned back to Master Roshi glaring. “Yes, master…” |

Krillin walked with the old lady through the desert. He was really curious about how she knew Master Roshi. The one thing that sparked his curiosity was that she had referred to the old man as master. That was something that only students did. She looked about the same age as Master Roshi, though, if not older. There was no way that she was possibly a student of his. Maybe a child of hers was and she did it out of respect. The wondering was killing him now, though, and he just had to know. “How do you know Master Roshi?” “He was my master a very long time ago. I was probally around your age when he taught me the ways of the turtle.” The old lady laughed a bit. “I’m too old to even throw a punch now. The skill was useful when I was younger. If I was only a few years younger, then I would’ve showed those little gangsters a thing or two about violence.” Krillin was shocked at the ladies answer. He dropped the bag where he stood. He lost all concentration and completely forgot that he was even holding the thing. He shook his head to snap back into it and turned for the bag. He hoisted it back on and turned to the old lady, who was still just walking. Krillin ran to catch up with her. “What? There’s no way!!” The old lady chuckled again. “Oh yes there is. That man is full of all sorts of things. You would never tell by just looking at him. He just leads people on and on. It’s how he knows who to train. Normally people would just give up at the first whim of his antics. Those are the ones who never get trained. The ones who stick around, though, he will teach everything he knows too. It’s worth the patience and annoyance, too. Trust me on that one, young boy.” |

“Let me tell you a secret about your master, young lad. He is much older than you think. Much more…” The old lady continued to walk while Krillin followed listening. “See…Master Roshi drank the water from the Fountain of Youth…” Krillin jumped into the conversation with an interruption. “Alright…first off, you kind of had me a little thrown when you told me that Master Roshi was your master when you were my age. Second, you told me that Master Roshi actually knows what the hell he is doing. That’s impossible!! Have you seen him or even been around him for more than ten minutes? He’s nothing like that!! Now, you tell me that he his old wrinkly self has bathed in the Fountain of Youth, assuming that there even is one?” The old lady laughed at Krillin hysterically. “You don’t believe me? It’s true. I promise you that it’s true. He looked the same then as he does now and that was a good forty something years ago. It’s the truth, young one.” Krillin walked in silence for awhile carrying the bag. He thought back at the training he was supposedly going under. He thought about all of the bullshit that Master Roshi had and was still putting him through. It kind of made sense, but there was just no way. Then again, he thought of how he was somewhat making sense off all of this. Perhaps she was right. He was getting stronger and faster. He was gaining his speed from wearing that ridiculous turtle sheel all day. It weighed almost two hundred pounds. He was getting stronger by working all those stupid chores all day, as well. The digging of those holes over and over. Maybe there was a point to everything he was being put through. Krillin broke the silence. “So you’re saying there is a method to his madness, huh?” The old lady nodded and the two continued to walk. |

The two of them arrived at the old ladies house. Krillin followed her inside the house and dropped the bag down on the floor. He began to empty the bag out, but she stopped him. Krillin looked up at her curiously. “Huh?” “I can handle all of this, young lad. You go on and fetch that case of water. Leave the womanly work for the woman. I’m not that old, yet.” The old lady smiled at Krillin, who just returned a nod to her. Krillin bolted out of the door and then ran right back in. “Which way exactly?” Krillin stood at the doorway scratching his head. The old lady pointed in a direction. Krillin looked out that way and started running in that direction after confirming what she said with a nod. Krillin sped across the desert floor leaving nothing but a trail of dirt, rock, and dust behind him. He leaned his body forward and held his arms back behind him so that he didn’t go against the wind as much. He could feel the change in his speed from the training. The change was even noticeable now that he had a good day of no training. He basically just walked today and the night before he had got a really good rest. Theses thugs had no clue what was coming for them now. He was in prime condition and itching for a fight. When Krillin finally reached the town he could see the destruction that the gang war had brought. Bodies laid in the streets and buildings were crumbling or burnt. The streets were empty and there were still fires burning from the arson attacks. The sight was pathetic to witness. Krillin could only keep reminding himself of how most of these people probably had nothing to do with the gang war. Most of these people were probably all innocent and didn’t deserve to die. The thought completely disgusted Krillin. |

The gangsters of half the gangs involved in the gang war that ripped the town apart were all just sitting in an abandoned warehouse. The building was dark and busted pipes made it damp. It was barely standing from the war that took place a few days before. The four of them sat there around a table drinking Saki in celebration of their victory. That was only assuming that there are victors in a war that caused this much death and destruction. One of them looked up because he heard something behind him. In his drunken stupor he turned and stumbled towards the shadows. He didn’t know what it was, but he was filled with liquid courage and it didn’t matter what it was. He just walked into the shadows toting his gun chuck full of bravery and stupidity. The others just watched him disappear into the darkness. Wham!! The gangster flew from the shadows. His body spiraled through the air and he landed on the table that the rest of the gang was sitting around. The wooden table smashed underneath his body. His gun was gone and his body was motionless. Blood poured slowly from his mouth that was only supported by a broken jaw. Krillin walked from the shadows. He stood there in no stance at all. He had an air of confidence about him. This was a deed that needed to be done. He looked for his own justification in getting rid of these fools from Earth, but he didn’t need to find one on his own. The three gangsters that stood before him and the dead one that laid there had given him all the justification he needed to complete this task. The gangsters all stared at Krillin in fear. They could read the expression that covered his face. They knew from the first glance of seeing him that this was a fight they could not win. They had two choices in front of them. They knew that they could either get beaten while running or get beaten while fighting. The Saki that they had been drinking issued only one order, however. They all remained there to fight. ___________________ Krillin walked through the door of Kame House. Master Roshi sat in a recliner watching an aerobics show where the girls were all exercising in tight spandex. He looked over at Krillin. “Well?” “The job is done, Master. She got ALL of her supplies.” Krillin returned to his bed and laid there to rest after ditching his sweaty and bloodied clothes. |
