BEWARE, SPOILERS ARE MOST LIKELY TO ABOUND IN THIS THREAD, YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED alright, now that Lawyer-bot is through yelling...I would like to have a nice intellectual discussion about this awesome movie by JJ Abrams. I wish to express I am apparently one of the few trekkies who thinks JJ Abrams did a good job. I have seen a lot of comments on youtube and various forums devoted to Star Trek proclaiming Roddenberry is spinning in his grave over the newest star trek movie. I don't believe he is, and I know a fair number of trekkies that think the same way. What did you think about the idea of an alternate universe where George Kirk died on the day of James T. Kirk's birth, and where planet Vulcan is destroyed? |

This was same guy who did cloverfield and lost so he isn't that great to begin with. The movie was good because of the actors, but the story wasn't that great at all. It seem to take the future trunks saga from dbz and use it with spock in the place of it. The antimatter was kinda cool though. |

most trekkies I know loved the movie. The story I thought was good. Just because they used a similar story doesn't make it bad. How many stories have been reused over and over? But everyone that I've talked to here loved it. |

Well...I don't even think JJ Abrams saw a lot of Star Trek, but it wasn't done before in the series to my knowledge, so props to him for that. I have to say whoever was in charge of casting did a bang up job and deserves a thumbs up. |

It's really epic and it was fun to watch. It made me like Star Trek, when before I really never was interested in the series. |

See that's actually the gripe I've heard trekkies give. It's brought in too many new people, etc., I don't understand the argument myself, is it bad to have more fans of a great show? *shrugs* It's not like we Trekkies are the only ones allowed to like the show, hm? |

Actually I enjoyed the series they did with Patrick Stewart as captain picard. Most of the people I've talk to didn't like it at all like pan has said. But I liked it along with the people on this site for the most part. |

I think the fact they used an alternate reality was a cheap move but also very effective since it's a time-honoured sci fi tradition. I liked the fact that normally in those scenarios they say 'we have to stop this from happening' whereas in the movie they were like 'well, he's already done this, let's go kill him.' |

sometimes you have to use what works. They used quite a bit that usually works. People love time travel stuff. It worked in Star Trek a few times. And although the story changed, you got to see how the characters were before hand (For the most part). I also liked the fact they didn't give away any of the story in the trailer. |
