A farmer in a small town has asked for your help, he alone provides food for his town and insects have destroyed his crops. He needs you to farm the fields for him. He promises he will give you the small money he has if you do it for him.

---

"I forbid it, Sister Kumbaya. That man is renowned for his perverted attraction to young ladies and the blessings on your chest would not allow you to be trained properly by the Master Roshi..."

The old woman was slightly taller than the average large beach ball, but even in her withered raisin state, she held an aura of authority as she spoke face to face with the lovely Amazon nun before her who looked rather distraught. Though she shared the some uniform, there was many more designs on her garments addressing her station. The office was elegant and rustic, but still simple and humble.

"Mother Superior, where am I going to go in order to further my training?"

"There is a place between here and heaven, my child. A place where an ancient one of the Namekians named Kami resides. He only trains the purest of hearts... though I know God is pleased with your works, you have little experience in spreading the Word of God through the world."

Kumbaya lowered her head. Her golden eyes fell to the floor, wondering how on earth she would ever get that much renown. Time wasn't on her side with the invasion on the other planet, but she had no choice. She had to put her faith to the test. The mother superior merely smiled under her habit and took a letter from the top of her desk.

"Now now, my child. I have a good start for you. There is a farmer in need of your strength. Though you lack power in the advanced arts of combat, your brute power fits this task well. It is humble. A good start for a good girl like you."

Kumbaya's eyes lit up and folded demurely in front of her. Smiling brightly, she laughed excitedly.

"I will take anything to begin my journey!"

"A farmer has had some difficulty with bugs as of late. He feeds the small community he resides in not far from the convent. He will need your assistance to bring the farm back before the harvest season begins."

Kumbaya bowed to Mother Superior as she was given her orders.

"I will get on it right away, Mother Superior."

She was out the office door before the Mother Superior could give her regards. The old woman merely laughed to herself and sighed.

"Ah... youth. Oh Lord... I pray this girl does not see too much sorrow in these coming days."

Her legs rushed to the scene. Though it wasn't far by car, it was a decent run away. She was a member of a "Templar" order and was quite capable of making decent headway to the mans farm. Dust flew behind her as her black cape fluttered behind her as well as her hair under her habit. Her Avalonian roots were great, but her father's husky frame was also her legacy. She had saved the donations given to her in order to invest wisely in her future, and they allowed nuns to keep their donations given from their works of charity around the globe to improve their skills.

A half an hour later, she arrived at the scene. She dusted herself off as a chubby farmer was sleeping on his wooden porch with a shotgun at his side. Concerned with the fields, Kumbaya took a long look at the many fields ahead of her. Indeed, the grasshoppers had their way with his crops and the many leaves of the wilted plants were covered in holes.

"Oh my..."

Kumbaya sighed and slowly approached the farmer, looking over to him and clearing her throat to get his attention. The farmer slightly slipped out of his snoozing and yawned before looking over to Kumbaya.

"Oh... ya'll that thar nun they was gonna send?"

"Yes sir, how do you do? My name is Sister Kumbaya! What's yours?"

"Jed... and I'll be danged if you ain't the biggest woman I ever done saw!... Er... excuse the language."

Kumbaya blushed a bit, understanding that her height was much bigger than most girls. Still keeping on a cheery mask, she tilted her head in his direction.

"Well, Mr. Jed, what can I do for you first?"

"Them plants er' dead, Miss Kumbaya. Though ol' Bessy could take awhile to plow 'em up, I'm runnin' out a time ta plant a new crop before harvest time. Roll em sleeves up, Missy, cause we're gonna start fresh... and we got grasshoppers to get rid of."

"So grasshoppers and plowing, huh? Hmmm..."

She slowly removed her long black cape from her shoulders, showing her "blessings" on her chest despite how demurely her fighting robes covered her torso. The farmer started to drool on himself before coming to his senses. The missus would kill him for looking at a girl let alone a nun!

"I'll at least start getting rid of the grasshopper problem while you get the plow ready. I can pull it more easily with the grasshoppers gone."

"W... wait. Yer gonna pull the plow by yerself?! Yer big, Missy, but my fields er bigger than you!"

"I think I have a good plan. Let's see if it works."

Leaping into the first field, she started rushing with the cape and swiping it in front of her repeatedly to get a good gust up. The mob of grasshoppers started to fly all over the place... and though Kumbaya was a girl, grasshoppers were not the type of insect to bother her. Swiping around with her caper repeatedly, she ran up and down the field chasing all the bugs and using the gusts of wind to whip away some of the dead plants while she was at it.

After awhile, and several fields later, sweat poured down her brow as an old woman arrived from the old rickety house with a tall glass of lemonade. Kumbaya smiled and took a break, taking the glass from her tray and chugging it down quickly.

"That should be the last of the grasshoppers... now lets get to the fields!"

"Now now, dearie," the old woman said. "Take a bit of a rest. The day is still young and so are you. You should enjoy life even with your vocation in life."

"Oh... thanks!"

And so Kumbaya paused long enough to enjoy a pitcher of lemonade as the farmer made the last preparations with the plow.

"Now, Missy, if things get too tough, ya'll take a breather, alright?"

"I will. Thank you!"

The harness was hard to grip, and Kumbaya's arms were very strong. With her sleeves rolled up to reveal her muscular, but proportionate, arms, she took her few steps with with old plow.

"Uuuuuuurgh... what is that line? It is good for a man that he bear the yoke in his youth. (*)?"

Her heels went deep into the ground, trying to get a good start. Unfortunately, the way her arms were positions with gripping it behind her, it wasn't getting the job done. Pausing for a moment, she looked at how the plow was built and decided that pushing would be a better strategy.

Tieing the harness to the frame, she put both hands on the tied harness and started pushing. It was then that the thing started to roll. Kumbaya laughed and pushed her heels into the ground and started running... and running... and she was having way too much of a good time. At the end of the row, she would turn around while Bessy and Jed would take a plow to another field. After getting about halfway done, Jed's wife was out with another pitcher of lemonade.

Having to stretch her arms, Kumbaya started to realize something important that she had forgotten... sunscreen. Her arms were beginning to blister from the bright sun above her.

"Oh no..."

"Aw dear, some mustard will take caruv' that. Ya'll come on in."

After about half an hour of rest and getting her arms covered in mustard and bandaged up to take the edge off of the sun, she went along and continued pulling the plow until about mid day.

"Alrighty, Missy! Hard part's over! Now it's just plantin' the seeds and waterin'"

"Thank God... ow..."

She was not used to hard labor despite being a martial artist. Though she was conditioned for battle callouses, constant rubbing against her arms and hands was not something she was used to.

Then again, not a lot of girls would have the raw strength to push an entire plow across a field on their own. The mustard was doing its job in drawing out the heat, but Jed's wife had to tend to her hands before she could continue. They had blistered very badly from her stunt. Kumbaya was cramping in her arms, but it was the sort of pain which made someone feel that they had accomplished something.

"So what made you want to become a nun, dearie? Why, your size would make you a great wife."

"Uhm... well, it was mostly out of duty. My father is a priest."

"Eh?"

"Oh, he was married and had me before he became a priest. The Eastern Catholic community allows for it."

"Ah, I gets it," the old woman replied. "But if yer doing it fer duty and not fer God, I don't think that's a right thing."

Kumbaya paused for a moment. Certainly her duty was favored by God, right? She loved God and his Word with all her heart, but was she making her sacrifices for Him or because it was the right thing to do?

Kumbaya shook her head for a moment and looked up at the old woman.

"Even if it is not the right thing, it brought me to you. This is a path which leads to a kind and noble life which He would smile upon."

"I see... yer a nice girl, Sister."

Kumbaya laughed and smiled. She couldn't wait to finish the farmer's fields.

It was getting late in the day which was good considering her outfit was black and absorbing a lot of heat. Oh, but whomever was doing the laundry tomorrow would have fits at her. Dirt caked her habit as well as her robes. With her arms bandaged, she watched how Farmer Jed was doing it. He seemed to get the spacing with the precision of a man who had done it for years.

Looking up, Jed lifted his hat and smiled.

"Feelin' better, Missy?"

"Yes, thank you."

"Now you all should stay fer supper after this. Ya'll have hardly ate a thing since ya'll have been here!"

"That is kind of you. It will give me the energy to return home."

In all of this mess, she had forgotten to eat again. The lemonade had kept her up, but she realized her stomach was growling. Walking over to Jed, he explained how to plant the seeds.

"Ya'll don't want it too deep or too shallow. And ya need to space em' out like this so that they don't get all tangled."

"Hmmmm..."

She measured the depth and distance between the seeds and cracked her knuckles. There was a wheelbarrow with bags of seeds, and she took a bag and tied it to her back with her cape. After she took a couple of practice swings in the dirt to try and get the spacing right, she took a seed and jammed it into the ground. As she used the row already planted by farmer Jed, she began getting a faster and faster pace with her jabs as she ran.

She was a planting machine. She missed a plant here and there by an inch sometimes, but as she dashed through the field with the bag of seeds in tow, she went back and forth to all the rows she had plowed earlier. Sweat was soaking in her robes by the time she finished, and the smell of chicken pot pie could not have been any sweeter. Jed's wife came out with three of them. One for each of them.

"My, my... you did that faster than our old machine."

"Thank you Mrs... ah... oh, my apologies! What was your name again?"

"Edna. Sorry! Ya'll were so busy, I forgot myself! Haha!"

She ate at the porch table... well, barrel with a tablecloth over it... like a princess. Still, she ate with a speedy gusto.

"My goodness, child! I never thought I'd see someone eat so polite and fast before!" Edna laughed.

"I have never had chicken pot pie before! ... You could say I have been a little spoiled. I wanted to get out into the world while doing something honorable."

"Well, bless yer heart!" Jed replied.

"I'm going to tell the neighbors about you. You see, Jed an' me aren't the only farmers who feed a town. It's like that around the country."

"Oh?"

She knew about commercial farmers, but the art of local farming still seemed to thrive. Considering that the big towns had most of the technology, though, it was no surprise that people couldn't afford to live there.

"Well... that is what my Order is for, Mrs. Edna. We are not a convent of four walls, rather one who reaches out to those who need protection."

"And man if'n we don't need protection from them aliens" Jed groused. "E.T.'s and ALF's comin' to our planet, thinkin' they own the place..."

Jed took a giant bite from his pot pie as Kumbaya just sat there quietly but with discomfort, knowing her mother was one of those "aliens". She finished the dinner in peace, getting ready for the final phase.

After dinner came a final chore... watering the fields. Of course, a simple watering can wouldn't do the job, so there were lots of hoses to be attached through the entire fields. The long hoses were heavy for most, and the key was not getting it tangled as she ran across the fields, keeping the hoses in tow behind her.

Taking a big wrench, she cranked the hose on the spigots on one end of the field as she gave the one hose a final tug to make sure it was snapping right. She turned on the water to test it and the one on the end seemed to be getting all the rows on one side.

"Great! Just a few more of those to go!"

Yes, there were multiple hose-ends on the spigot and she kept having to run back and forth with the hoses. It took several trips to make it, but with Farmer Jed's help, she managed to get the entire system working before the sun went down over the horizon.

Man, was she stiff.

She cracked her knuckles and smiled, watching the sunset over the fields and trees, enjoying the simple breeze and a job well done. Edna walked up from behind and placed a handkerchief in Kumbaya's hands which had the jingle of money inside.

"Here, deary. Consider this a donation to the Church."

"W... what?"

"What? They didn't tell you that we were paying?"

"No... but... I never want to insult your hospitality either. I am training to protect the world."

"And that's how you do it, darlin'. One person at a time. Besides, if you don't take care of yer own self, then you can't go 'round helping other people. Ya'll ought to remember that."

Kumbaya paused, taking in the woman's wise words and finally fully accepted the "donation".

"Thank you, Mrs. Edna."

"Now you run along. I'm sure you can walk, but it's gettin' dark and it's not proper for a nice young girl to be walking home after dark. Jed's in his pick up waitin'."

Bowing respectfully to Edna, she rushed to the pick up truck and enjoyed the view as he drove her back to the convent. She wondered what she would use the money for, knowing that the one doing her laundry would have a fit. New clothes were soon to be in order.
