Enzeru was once again sitting in her master’s living room sipping lemonade and watching television. She sighed heavily before putting her glass down on a coaster. “There’s never anything on at this time of day. I should try and get him to change my training time later so I can catch the late night stuff rather than noon soaps.” She turned on the news and kicked her feet up on the automan. At least it was comfortable here. Sure she liked the desert but it got tiring sometimes. Sand and heat were her friends and sand and cold were her bed. Often Enzeru had crawling or slithering visitors that would startle her. Being the person she was, she would either leave her tent to the beasts or throw them outside. After some incidents in her past Enzeru had found it hard to kill anything even as small as a fly. Life was life no matter how small and seemingly meaningless. That was something she learned at a young age when she was first introduced to the wonderful world of science. Enzeru closed her eyes and focused her thoughts a few more weeks of training and she would be off to find her father. Maybe she would try and find another master. She had heard that there were other master’s out there that were more powerful than her current master. There were trillions of people in the universe so it might be possible to find one of those master that would be willing to teach her. She yawned and checked the time. Soon Master Roshi would be done teaching whoever he was teaching and he would get to her. Enzeru hoped that she would learn something new today rather than practice something she already knew. Sure the old skills were good, but something new would be useful for her future trip to space. (Word Count 312) |

While Enzeru was daydreaming about the starry blankness of space the phone rang. She jumped a little before looking around. ‘I wasn’t aware that Master Roshi had a phone.’ She thought as she lifted a pillow to reveal a cell phone. ‘A cell at that, how progressive of him.’ Enzeru debated weather or not to answer. She did not like to mess with other people’s phones, it seemed wrong. However, she did answer. “Master Roshi’s phone, Enzeru speaking.” “Yes, is master Roshi there? This is an urgent matter.” An older man replied. “One moment.” Enzeru stepped out the door and yelled, “Oh Master Roshi? You have a call, it’s urgent.” Master Roshi walked around the corner looking a little disgruntled. “What is it?” “Don’t know, some older man said it was urgent.” Master Roshi took the phone and spoke to the man, “Hello? Yes. I understand. She is my student, want me to send her? She’s on her way, goodbye.” He hung up the phone and sighed. “Seems your training will have to wait, again. That was the mayor of a small farming village. He said that there are thugs raiding and pillaging. He also said there are hostages.” “So it’s another straight to the source job? Find the head and separate it from the body?” “No, actually, you just go in and free the hostages first. Then you do what must be done to save the village itself.” “Right, I’ll get right to it.” Enzeru took to the air. “Hold up, let me show you where it is on the map first. You may be able to fly but it’s nothing if you don’t know where you’re going.” Enzeru landed and followed her master into his house where he led her to a map. “This is where it is.” He pointed to a small place in the mountains quite a few miles from where they were. “Right then. Northwest past central city. Got it, I’m gone.” She hurried out the door and took to the air. (Word Count 337) |

Before Master Roshi could bid her farewell Enzeru was off. There were people in trouble so this was no time to chat. After all, for every second that she wasted another person could have died. Normally she would be enjoying flying. It was always nice to speed through the clouds while everything below you seemed to stand still. How could she enjoy something to carefree when there were innocent people in trouble? Enzeru was no longer flying over the ocean and suddenly over dry land. The beaches gave way to hills and hills gave way to the plains. It wasn’t long until Central City was in sight. She flew a little higher, hoping no one would spot her, no need to start a panic or cause a wreck. As soon as she was past the city she began looking around for the village. She spotted it where her master said it would be and began her approach. ‘I need to be careful, I have no idea what these thugs are capable of.’ Enzeru thought to herself as she kept both eyes focused on the village below. She landed a bit of a distance outside of the village. After all, if she was spotted she wanted to hide her true power until she needed it. No use giving herself away to be shot at. Bullets hurt no matter how strong she got. Enzeru approached the village from what might be considered the side. She came through the fields, that held no life save the livestock. This was the first sign something was still wrong. What farmer in their right mind would leave the beasts in the fields? She began making her way to the center of the village where the gathering area was. All these villages had a gathering area. Enzeru didn’t know what all happened there, she never stuck around long enough to find out. (Word Count 315) |

As Enzeru approached the center of town she spotted her first signs of life, or rather heard them. It sounded as if a lot of people were all yelling at once. She approached with caution, hoping to keep from setting off anyone, the shouts did sound rather angry after all. Enzeru gained a nice little spot behind a broken wall to watch from. It appeared that there were a bunch of thugs gathered around watching something. She had to get a closer look. Enzeru looked around for a place to watch from and spotted a roof with some kind of structure on it nearby. ‘Ah, ha, perfect.’ She thought before silently taking to the air and then hiding quickly behind the roof structure. From here she could see what it was. It was a battle ring. A very large man was in the middle beating his chest. A smaller form lay at his feet and appeared to not be moving. A pang of anger mixed with disgust went through Enzeru. She hated people like this. She left her post and flew down behind the crowds. She tied her hair up and waiting for a chance to make a move. Enzeru looked to the right and saw what looked like an animal pen but instead of animals inside she saw humans. ‘So they must be sending them in to face the big guy. Maybe I should join the numbers of the trapped and bump myself to the front of the line.’ Enzeru snuck through the crowd. It was easier than she thought since half of them were drunk on either battle rage or booze. When she made it to the pen no one looked up or even made to acknowledge her. “Psst, hey, can you hear me?” She asked the people, hoping one of them might still have a spark of hope left. A young woman raised her head and looked terror stricken, “A ghost!” She shrieked loud enough for her fellow prisoners to hear. It still could not carry over the crowd. (Word Count: 342) |

Enzeru sighed and shook her head. She didn’t notice that the prisoners were waking up from their self induced hopeless nightmare. “Run, get out of here,” a man hissed at her. “You won’t possibly live if they catch you.” A woman added. “I want them to catch me. It may be the only way you guys can go free.” Enzeru replied to the prisoners. Despite their pleas Enzeru found a way inside the cage through the back in the top. “Let me to the front. I’ll take this guy out so they will stop sending people out for him. If he’s their leader I might be able to take over their gang and disband it.” “He’s not their leader, that guy is.” Someone pointed to a guy who was sitting front row center. “He’s a regular pharaoh Cesar.” Enzeru raised an eyebrow as she saw the man who was adorned in silks and gold. “Okay, not to worry. I’m going to go for him next. Just keep one thing in mind while I do this. I’m only half human so anything could happen.” There were several nods as they made way for Enzeru to go to the front. She walked to the front of the pen and waited for her turn. The man in charge sat there eating corn slathered with butter. He had all kinds of fruits and vegetables and meats in front of him. It seemed not only an award for the winner but also something for himself. A guard came an escorted Enzeru to the ring. “Oh a woman, Jujango is going to love this.” He laughed a dry evil laugh. Enzeru was shoved into the ring with very little force. She gazed at the crowds and smirked. This was going to be tons of fun. She noticed gangs from several different provinces. Apparently this place was getting worse by the day. The big bully walked straight for her and giggled, “Woman mine.” He said as he reached for her. (Word Count 333) |

Enzeru slapped the big guy’s hand away from her. “Do not touch me you pile of filth. People like you are turning parts of this planet into crap for others. Do you know that?” “Mine.” The big guy tried to reach for Enzeru again and she smacked his hand away. The large man began to throw a tantrum He stomped the ground with both his feet and beat his chest. “I will have woman!” He tried to bring his fist down on Enzeru’s head but she caught it and tossed him aside. “We can do this the easy way or the hard way. Easy way, you stop right now and I don’t beat you up. Hard way, I beat you up. So what’s it gonna be?” The man got up and ran at Enzeru. “Hard way it is.” She said before hitting him in his large gut with a blast punch. The man fell down screaming in pain and holding his stomach. “Oh hush up you big whine bag. I didn’t his you that hard.” Enzeru said before approaching the very frightened looking leader. “Well, well, well, Cesar himself I presume. I suggest you and your underlings pack up and leave this village. Disperse, and never cause trouble again.” The crowd was silent, they seemed to be listening to every word she said. The leader remained silent as he cowered behind his chair. “Answer me! Will you leave or will I have to hit you too?” The man continued to ignore her and cower. Enzeru flew up to the platform he was sitting on and turned to face him, “If you’re scared you should set a good example and run.” The man screamed and skittered away. Enzeru smirked and then turned to face the crowd. “Now the rest of you, get out of here. If I ever catch any of you back here I will put you in a worse state than he is in.” The crowds began to quickly disperse. This made Enzeru smile. She returned to the pen where the people were being kept. She ripped it open, “You’re all free. Do not be afraid of me, your mayor called me to help you.” For a moment the people seemed a little disoriented and then they began to brighten up. They left the pen they called prison and returned to their homes. Enzeru felt no more need to stay. She flew off to let her master know it was done. (Word Count 412) |
