The Right Turn in History
Pan felt her fingers twitch, but they were the only part of her body that could move. She was intently aware of the collar around her neck and the magic keeping her glued to the floor. Alice was definitely worse than Dysta. Pan had never imagined it to be true but it was.

Alice watched the Saiyan from a corner. Pan knew that the woman wanted Pan to stand up and fight. It was fun for Alice to watch Pan struggle. Probably more so than it was to torture the woman.

The young woman's fingers dug into the ground underneath her. Alice's words echoed in her ears. Fight monkey. Know that your efforts are futile. You cannot win. But at least you can be entertaining for me, the words would not leave her.

She gasped in surprise as she felt Alice's hand curl around her tail. She struggled against the hold, trying to get away. A burning sensation was felt, causing Pan to snarl with the pain. Her tail was not yet trained to take such pain. She whipped her head around to watch smoke waft from her tail, the fur burned to a crisp.

"Let... me... GO!" Pan managed to growl out. To her surprise, Alice released her grip on Pan's tail, letting the Saiyan drop to the ground.

"How many hours have passed?" Pan asked from the floor, voice muffled from half of her face being pressed to the floor.

"Just two," Alice said. A smile then formed on the woman's face.

Two hours... how could it only be two hours? It felt like longer. Of course, Pan had blacked out about an hour into it. So an hour had probably passed while she was unconscious.

"Why are you doing this to me?" Pan asked softly. She was a little surprised the woman was not forcing Pan to call her 'mistress', but she was sure that would come later.

"For my entertainment of course. I have a feeling I have yet to have real fun with you," Alice said.

Pan was dimly aware of the smell of burnt flesh and fur. She should be used to it thanks to Dysta, but she was not. She had not really been burnt all that much. But the smell was not bothersome.

"So... you procure entertainment from torturing people..." Pan mumbled. Slowly she pushed herself up on her knees. Ebony eyes locked onto blue. The Saiyan watched as a smirk formed on Alice's face. Pan knew she was rehashing the same conversation from two hours ago, but at least it was sparing her the pain.

"We've been over this Seta. Your pain is my pleasure," Alice said.

Pan was getting quite sick of dungeons and the like. But she had a feeling it would b a while before she could get free.

She blinked in surprise as Alice's hand shot out and grasped Pan by the throat. Before the Saiyan Overlord could do anything, she was thrust up against the wall. The metal of her collar dug into her skin, leaving a red mark.

Pan watched as Alice's free hand twisted, magic being called forth. A thick chain flew through the air and into Alice's hand. Pan knew what was coming. Just as she suspected, her hands were shackled. Just like on Tanimura, she was hung from the ceiling. But this time she doubted it was for a bath.

The Saiyan's armor was removed, as well as her sword. That was the third time her weapon had been taken from her, she was getting tired of it happening. Her blue bodysuit was also stripped from her. She was naked for scant seconds before she was clothed in a pair of shorts and a shirt that was two sizes too small for her. Because of her shirt being too small, a good portion of her middle was exposed. The scar from Dysta's ki-infused punch could be seen.

The clothing was made of very thin material. She doubted that it would last against much of anything.

Pan realized her chest was heaving. Seconds later she figured out why. Self-consciously she had caught sight of a dagger in Alice's hand. The dagger in the woman's hand was much more wicked looking than the one Dysta had wielded.

"Ah, you are scared of my simple little dagger," Alice said. Pan did not speak, her eyes centered on the bladed weapon. After a few moments, Pan finally gathered up her resolve.

"I may not be from around here, but there is no way that is a simple little dagger," Pan said, mimicking Alice's words.

"You would be correct. See, this dagger is cursed. Every tiny cut it makes will hurt ten times as much as it should. Every cut it makes will heal slowly. Every cut it makes can be reopened at a later time just by my thinking about it," Alice explained.

Pan felt her heartbeat quicken at the idea. It did not just look wicked, it was wicked too!

The Saiyan Bitch's breath hitched in her throat as the tip of the dagger touched her navel. She bit back a whimper. It was rare for Pan to be scared, but she was not stupid. A tiny little prick from that dagger--if Alice spoke true--would be like being sliced by a sword that was on fire. She knew what that felt like thanks to her swordsmanship training.

"You don't want me to cut you with this dagger, do you Seta?" Alice asked in a maternal voice. Pan's head shook from left to right in a clear no. Though she had a slight thought that Alice was lying, she was afraid that Alice was speaking the truth. One of the truths of the universe-- that people would believe a lie because they were afraid it was true or wanted to believe it to be true.

"Well if you behave I won't have a reason to cut you," Alice murmured. She leaned up and her lips brushed along Pan's jaw. The Saiyan stiffened, squirming in the shackles holding her up.

"Though perhaps I should show you just how bad it is..." Alice added. She twisted the blade, nearly puncturing Pan's skin. Of course, Pan struggled. She tried to move away from the dagger but it would not leave her skin.

"Don't," Pan whispered.

"What was that?" Alice asked.

"Please, don't!" Pan said.

"And what will you do for me if I don't cut you with this dagger?" the woman asked, her breath against Pan's ear.

"What can I do for you? There is nothing I can give you," Pan murmured, her head drooping as well as her tail.

"Perhaps if you promise to be a good little monkey?" Alice replied.

"Don't call me a monkey," Pan said sharply. She grunted as the dagger dug in deeper, but still not breaking the skin.

"You are so very close to feeling this dagger cut your skin, Seta," Alice said. Pan narrowed her eyes as she gazed at the woman.

"How do I know you're telling the truth? How do I know you aren't just lying to get me to obey you?" Pan asked.

"That is the eternal conundrum, Seta. It is the same question people give about the existence of a God," Alice said.

"I'll take my chances," Pan decided.

Before Pan could change her mind, she felt the blade slice into her skin. Her scream echoed down the hallway. Blood fell from the cut in her stomach. It was not deep enough for her inner organs to be compromised however. The young Saiyan panted, sweat dribbling down her face.

She glanced down as she felt Alice's fingers graze along her stomach, getting the Saiyan's blood on her fingertips. Pan's eyes widened. The Princess slipped her fingers into her mouth, sucking on the blood. Well, that was unexpected. Part of Pan was repulsed but the other part somehow found it... sexy. She was disgusted with herself for even thinking the Princess's actions could be sexy. But she was a firm believer that one could not control their emotions. They could control how they acted and could choose not to let their emotions take over but they could not stop the emotions from happening.

Pan frowned a little bit as she felt Alice's hand on her cheek. She was able to feel Alice's saliva that was present on the Princess's fingers. She hated the feel of it. Sure Tara had done the same thing but it was very much different when Alice did it.

The Saiyan's teeth gritted as she tried to move her head away from the Princess. Alice's other hand came up and cupped Pan's other cheek, forcing the Saiyan to stay in place. Pan's heart thumped harder against her rib cage. She did not like the Princess being so close to her.

The smell of ozone burning hit the air as electricity crackled. Pan was not sure how but she had managed to use her Kyushojutsu to shock the Princess without even using her hands. Alice yelped in pain and jumped back, tucking her burnt hands under her arms.

Before Pan could say anything to the older woman, her back arched to the point where Pan was sure it would snap in two. Her howl of pain could have been heard throughout the castle if the dungeons did not have a noise-canceling spell around it. Blood dribbled down Pan's mouth as she dropped her head down once her scream subsided. Her chest heaved as she hung from the ceiling.

"It seems you learned something from Dysta," the woman said, once she was through with nursing her wounded hands.

"The only thing I learned from Mistress Dysta is how to withstand pain," Pan replied, her voice hoarse.

"Then how did you call the lightning like Dysta can?" Alice asked.

"I learned it some time back. While I was on another planet. It took me a while to learn it. I don't know how I was able to call it and release it from my face. I have only ever been able to release it by touching my hand to someone," Pan said.

"Well it seems I will have to lock away that power," Alice said. The woman moved closer to Pan. The Saiyan's brows furrowed as she gazed at the woman. She hissed as she felt Alice's nails digging into the skin of her cheek.

"It doesn't matter what you lock away, Princess. I will get free even if it takes me fifty years," Pan said. Sweat dribbled down her face and back. Pan hated the feel of it. She always had even though she was nowhere close to being a priss.

"I like a stubborn pet. You seem to be intelligent too. Surely you have to think that if all of your powers are locked away and you can't move a muscle that you won't escape?" Alice said. Her voice was soft, almost hypnotizing.

"Who said it would be me that would secure my freedom from this place?" Pan asked. A smile formed on the Saiyan's face.

"Who said someone would be able to find you?" Alice countered the question. The smile did not fade from Pan's face.

"I and the people I train with know more than you can ever imagine. We know how to find each other even if we are separated by millions of light years," Pan replied.

"Can you feel them? Can you use your Ki to find your comrades? Try it, if you so desire," Alice said. It was a direct challenge and one Pan knew was not going to be hampered by Alice.

Of course, Pan was eager to prove Alice wrong. Ebony eyes closed. The Saiyan took in a breath, focusing on using her Ki to find the signatures of her comrades. What she found caused her breath to hitch in her throat. A void, just like back on Tanimura when Pan met Zekk. She could not feel any signatures that existed outside of the room she was shackled in.

"That emptiness you feel? It is the same anyone else will feel as they search the planet. So you see your situation is hopeless. Now you realize the truth. There is no escape for you," Alice said.

"Nothing is impossible," Pan said. However, her voice gave her away. Her confidence was dwindling. Her situation was much more hopeless than it had been on Tanimura.

"You keep telling yourself that, Seta," Alice said. Her hand trailed down Pan's cheek then down Pan's chest. Eventually her fingers dipped into the blood on Pan's abdomen. She scooped up some of the warm, thick liquid. Pan's abdomen spasmed from the touch. She watched silently as Alice put two of her fingers into her mouth to lick the blood off. She had never seen someone enjoy drinking blood before. Pan liked making her opponent bleed as much as the next Saiyan, but to drink it?

"Are you thirsty, Seta?" Alice inquired. Pan bit her lower lip, trying not to think on the fact she wished she could eat and drink. At least she would not have to eat for another few hours. Drinking was another story of course.

"No," she lied. She could not admit to being thirsty. How was she to know what Alice would deem to be capable of sating Pan's thirst?

The Saiyan glanced down. She stared in shock as the wound in her stomach closed up faster than using a sensu bean.

"Ah well, I wasn't planning on giving you anything to drink yet anyway," Alice said. The woman shrugged her shoulders. She spun on her heel then strutted to a chair and small table nearby. Pan watched the woman get comfortable in the chair. Black eyebrows furrowed.

"You're resting already?" Pan asked. Her brows furrowed deeper at the chuckle that left Alice's lips.

"You should be glad for it. After I have finished fixing the damage you did to my hands, you won't be getting any rest for some time," Alice said.

Pan did not bother to sarcastically state that she was used to it. She figured she might as well try to garner brownie points early in the game. She knew how people like Alice ticked.

The Saiyan closed her eyes and leaned her head back. Her thoughts bounced from point to point, never staying on one idea for long. It was not so much that she did not want Alice to read her mind, rather it was the fact that she simply could not focus on one subject for extended periods. The one thought that she kept going back to however was the thought of Tara.

"Tell me, Seta. Why do you continue to fight, to try to stay alive, when the one you love more than anything is dead?" Alice asked from her spot in the only chair in the immediate vicinity.

Pan's eyes shot open at the question. She twisted her body so she could get a better look at the Princess.

"What kind of fucking twisted question is that?" Pan asked. She struggled to keep her fury in check, unsure if Alice was the same as Dysta when it came to emotions.

"It's quite simple. The only person who made you whole, the only person you ever truly loved is gone. She was your reason for living, no? Yet you continue to live instead of endeavoring to join her in the Afterlife," Alice answered. Her gaze was not on Pan but rather on her own hands as she fixed the damage to the tissue, nerve endings, and muscles.

"That's because it would be stupid to kill myself or allow myself to be killed just so I can join her in the Next Dimension. She would hate me for doing that. I will see her again one day, but I am not going to speed up the process," Pan said.

"An honorable thing. However, if I wanted to I could make you live even longer than you expect to. How would you feel about that? A hundred years old and still stuck in here wishing to see Tara's face again but being kept alive because I wish it?" Alice said.

"Eternity is a long time. A couple years knocked off is nothing in the grand scheme of things," Pan replied. She watched as Alice's hands were finally healed. The blond rose to her feet, a smile coming to her face. Pan really hated it when people smiled like that. It only meant trouble.

Pan stared quietly at Alice. The Saiyan knew that she had not won anything, but she felt like she had. She had made it clear that nothing Alice did could break her spirit. Ebony eyes fluttered closed as Pan felt the horrible cursed dagger against her bare stomach.

The muscles in her abdomen grew taut and she struggled to keep her breathing in check. She could almost feel Alice’s eyes boring into her body, as if trying to see right through Pan’s skin.

“You have been collared before,” Alice whispered. She moved in closer, as if wishing to get a whiff of Pan’s surprise. Apparently Alice could see Pan’s memories, instead of just the thoughts Pan was thinking at that instant.

“Yes. I don’t see how that makes a difference,” Pan murmured.

“Oh, it doesn’t. I just want you to know that this time will be a lot worse than the last time,” Alice said.

“It already is. King Cold was never interested in torture, just making me kill a person dear to me,” Pan said. She grunted as she felt the tip of the dagger dig into her abdomen yet not breaking the skin.

“Good. Tell me… what is your greatest fear?” Alice asked. Pan wiggled a little, trying to find purchase but her feet were too far off of the ground. She bit her tongue and tried to make a wall in her mind to prevent Alice from gleaning the answer from Pan’s thoughts.

“The same fear any Saiyan has: losing the power that I have worked so hard to achieve,” Pan answered. She clenched her eyes shut as the dagger dug in further. A small bead of blood formed, causing Pan to cry out in pain.

“Liar,” Alice said. She twisted the dagger, opening the wound wider. Another shout of pain left Pan’s mouth.

“I’m telling the truth!” Pan insisted, squirming more. She closed her eyes, taking in a deep breath. Maybe I can use Instant Transmission to get out of here… Pan thought to herself. Before she could try to find a lock on a power level away from the dungeon however, pain exploded in her head. Pan screamed from how much it hurt, her head tilting backward to roar at the ceiling.

“Ah ah ah. None of that. Besides, don’t you remember what I taught you earlier? You can’t lock onto a power level outside of this little room,” Alice said. Pan gagged as the dagger dug in further. Blood dribbled from the wound. The sound of the droplets hitting the stone reverberated in Pan’s head, the explosive pain from earlier turning into a migraine to end all migraines.

“Don’t talk, just think. Tell me all that Dysta did to you back on Tanimura,” Alice said, pulling the dagger away from Pan’s middle. Pan gulped down air and struggled to get her heartbeat back to normal.

Pan realized there were some blank spots in her memory, probably thanks to all of the stress she was under. Her mind was trying to stifle the memories. Her eyes closed as she focused, drudging up all of the memories of her time with Dysta on Tanimura that she could.

“Oh how yummy. Well, it’s only courteous to tell you that what Dysta did to you is nothing compared to what I will do to you,” Alice said.

Before Pan could ask how much worse Alice could be, Alice plunged the dagger into Pan’s stomach. Bright white lights popped up in front of Pan’s eyes. She was in too much shock to scream. Milliseconds later her eyes rolled into the back of her head and she passed out from the pain.

Pan jerked awake as a bucket of water was thrown on her, causing her to yelp and choke on the water. She flailed the best she could while hanging from the ceiling. Her eyes went down to her stomach. It took all of her will power not to pass out at the scene of the gaping hole in her.

She jumped as she heard the wooden bucket fall to the stone floor. Alice snapped her fingers, causing Pan to flinch. Not out of fear but rather from the pain such a small sound gave her head. The blond woman moved forward, a length of cloth in her hands. She reached up then easily tied the cloth around Pan’s eyes.

“Wh…what are you d-d-doing?” Pan choked out, her throat raw from all of the screaming she had done.

“I told you, what Dysta did to you will not stack up to what I am going to do to you,” Alice said. Pan felt herself beginning to hyperventilate as her phobia of things over her face without her consent kicked in.

“Now, did Dysta tell you how to properly address me?” asked Alice. Pan bit her lip as she racked her brain. She finally shook her head rapidly.

“You will refer to me as Mistress Alice or Mistress. Pretty simple really. If you can’t get the word ‘mistress’ out, then ‘ma’am’ will do just fine until you can call me ‘mistress’ again,” Alice said. A low whimper left Pan’s lips as she felt Alice’s dagger sliding along her throat.

Alice leaned up so that her mouth could be at Pan’s ear.

“Are you a good little pet?” Alice whispered, pressing the flat of the blade against Pan’s windpipe.

“I am no one’s pet,” Pan said. Pan gave an ‘oomph!’ of pain as Alice punched Pan in the stomach.

“Want to try that again, Seta?” Alice asked.

“I don’t belong to anyone,” Pan insisted. She gagged as Alice’s fist connected with Pan’s sternum, knocking the breath out of the Saiyan.

“I know you aren’t stupid, Seta, so quit acting like it,” Alice said. Pan gulped then winced at the feel of the dagger still against her throat.

“I belong to Mistress Dysta,” Pan said once she got her breath back. Pan howled in pain as the dagger was thrust into her stomach again.

“Wrong!” Alice said loudly, causing Pan’s head to throb painfully. “Try again.”

Pan wished she could glare at Alice, but the blindfold ruined the effect.

“Are you going to give me the right answer, Seta?” Alice asked with a sigh in her voice. Pan did not answer. She listened as Alice’s footsteps moved away from Pan. The Saiyan’s brows furrowed as she tried to figure out what Alice was up to. Before Pan could think too much on it, she felt a pair of headphones slipped over her ears.

“Fine, we’ll just go with the indoctrination way. You will follow all of the instructions on the tape. If you don’t, you will be punished,” Alice said. Pan squirmed wildly in the bonds, trying to get free. She heard a click as Alice pressed play on the CD player. She attached the CD player to Pan’s pants.

She listened as Alice’s footsteps moved away again. A wince overcame Pan’s features as Alice situated her chair and sat down.

You are nothing without Mistress Alice. You can’t do anything without Mistress Alice. She is the light. You are a bad person who brought this on yourself. Mistress Alice will lead the way to the light. Repeat after me: Mistress Alice is the only one who can save me. Mistress Alice is the only person who can help me. Repeat, a vaguely robotic voice played in Pan’s ears. Pan could hear nothing except for the voice.

Pan kept her lips pursed shut, refusing to obey the CD. Pain rocketed through her body as the hole in her stomach was probed by Alice using only her mind. Blood dropped to the floor, joining the rest of Pan’s Saiyan blood.

Repeat, the voice said again.

Pan still did not obey the CD.

The Saiyan had no idea how many minutes, hours, or days had passed as she struggled to not allow the words to affect her. She felt weak from the loss of blood but knew that Alice would not allow Pan to die from blood loss.

The CD said the same thing over and over again. Pan knew it was a common tactic for indoctrination. However, underneath the easily heard words a few more sentences could be heard. White noise indoctrination it was called. The words were simple: Live through killing. Kill the unworthy. The code is ‘Archangel’.

Pan felt sweat dripping down her face and back as she struggled not to be indoctrinated. But it was so hard to ignore the beautiful voice. It was as if the voice knew just what Pan needed to feel happy.

The blindfold was removed some time later. She blinked rapidly, trying to focus her eyes on the woman in front of her. Alice removed the headphones from Pan’s ears. She put them down on the table nearby.

“So, what have you learned Seta?” Alice asked sweetly. Pan realized the voice on the disc was almost identical to Alice’s voice. The Saiyan stared at Alice longingly. She winced as Alice snapped her fingers to center Pan’s attention.

“What have you learned, Seta?” Alice repeated.

“I am nothing without Mistress Alice. I can’t do anything without Mistress Alice. Mistress Alice is the light. Mistress Alice is the only one who can save me. Mistress Alice is the only person who can help me,” Pan said in a monotone.

“Good girl,” Alice said. She lightly stroked Pan’s cheek, smiling tenderly at the Saiyan. The Overlord could not help but look at Alice adoringly like a puppy would its master.

Pan’s tail gently wagged, happy for the touch. She bit her lower lip as she struggled to come back to herself.

“What the hell did you do to me?” Pan demanded once she grabbed a hold of herself.

“You are quite a strong-willed woman, aren’t you Seta? It usually only takes a couple of hours for someone to be totally at my beck and call,” Alice said, surprise evident on her face.

“You may be able to control my movements and read my mind, but there are still bits of me that belong to me alone,” Pan replied, a determined fire in her eyes.

“Well, it’s not a big deal. I have all the time in the world to get you to obey me without question,” Alice said, removing her hand from Pan’s cheek.

“How much time has passed?” Pan inquired.

“About ten hours. Like I said, I was surprised when it hit the two hour mark and you had not started chanting what is recorded on that disc,” Alice said.

Ten hours… that explained the emptiness in Pan’s stomach. At the thought of her middle, she quickly glanced down. Her eyes widened in surprise when she saw the hole was gone. Alice must have healed it while Pan was in the trance earlier.

“Are you hungry Seta?” Alice asked even though she knew the answer.

“Yes,” Pan replied. A smack resounded through the room as Alice backhanded Pan. The Saiyan snarled with pain.

“Yes, what, Seta?” Alice coaxed.

“Yes… mistress,” Pan spat out the word. She hated the word with a passion. She swore to herself she would never say it again once she got free.

“What would you like to eat?” Alice asked, her voice turning sugary sweet again.

“Meat?” asked Pan. She loved meat; she needed the protein and other nutrients from the meat.

Alice reached up and removed Pan’s cuffs from the chain attached to the ceiling. Pan grunted as she landed on the ground. Her feet were asleep, causing her to collapse onto her knees. Spending hours hanging from the ceiling did not do well for someone’s legs.

“You will not be eating in here. Follow me. If you are not a good girl well… I trust you don’t want to find out what will happen to you if you don’t follow orders,” Alice said. The woman grabbed a length of leather and tied it to the hoop on Pan’s collar. Deciding that her pride could take a backseat—at least until she finished eating—she quietly followed behind Alice.

Alice led Pan to a small dining room. It was about the size of Pan’s room in the Saiyan Army barracks when she was just starting out.

“Sit,” Alice commanded, pointing at the floor next to one of the tables. Pan did as such, though she did it slowly. Her feet were still asleep and she did not want to chance accidentally breaking her foot or ankle by sitting down wrong.

Pas was only given enough to eat so that her strength was returned to her and the nutrients in her body were replenished.

About thirty minutes later Pan was led back to the dungeon by the leash.

“Hold your arms up,” Alice directed after she led Pan underneath the length of chain that hung from the ceiling.

“Please, I did as you asked. Don’t make me hang from the ceiling again. It isn’t safe for my circulation. Please,” Pan said.

“Arms up,” Alice said. Pan bit her lower lip but did as she was told. Pan wished she knew what time it was. There weren’t any windows, and she did not have a watch. She could ask Alice, but figured there was no point. She winced as Alice cinched the chain around the cuffs. She was hanging higher in the air than before, not by much but it was enough.

Pan’s eyes followed Alice’s movements as the blond picked up a black velvet bag that had not been in the room before they went to eat.

The Saiyan watched as Alice smirked as she removed a whip from the bag. Pan squirmed wildly as she hung from the ceiling.

“What are you going to do?” Pan asked. She knew what the whip was for, but figured that she could delay the inevitable by asking stupid questions.

“Shush,” Alice said, whipping at Pan’s calf. She yelped in pain, jerking her legs away the best she could.

“Why the whip? It doesn’t give me nearly enough pain that just one of your thoughts can,” Pan said.

“Because it is much more fun,” Alice said, smiling. Pan opened her mouth to say something else but found that she could not speak even if she wanted to. Without her consent and without Alice even touching her, Pan felt her body turned so that her back faced Alice.

To try to keep her sanity, Pan attempted to keep count of the lashes she was given. One… two… three… four… the lashes hit her back in time with her breathing.

Somewhere around number one hundred and twelve she lost count. Blood pooled down her back. The cold air of the dungeon hit her back, making her shiver. One final lash made Pan scream louder than the last one hundred and something had made her scream.

Her body fell limp. Tears of anguish trailed down her cheeks. The whip was somehow much worse than the magic that had been used on her. Her ears finally stopped ringing which allowed her to hear Alice’s laughter. Alice was finding a twisted enjoyment out of Pan’s pain and bleeding.

Pan did not bother to ask how much time had passed. Alice put the whip down on the table then made her way towards the Saiyan. She reached up. Her hands deftly undid Pan’s bonds which allowed Pan to crumple to the floor. Alice used a leather and metal chain to tie Pan to the wall.

The chain was luckily long enough so that Pan could lie down on the floor. It was not entirely comfortable but at least she could lie down.

She was too sore to do anything as Alice put the blindfold back around Pan’s eyes then slipped the headphones over Pan’s ears.

“Sleep tight my little pet,” Alice cooed before pressing play on the CD player. Pan’s eyes slipped closed as the recorded voice filled her ears. She was left alone with just the recorded voice. She could not even think the recording was that pervasive.

---------------

Pan’s movements were robotic as she pulled on a pair of black gi pants and a black shirt. A single symbol could be found on the left side of her chest and on her back. The symbol simply said ‘slave’. Everyone who was a slave had the same clothes and the same symbol.

She could feel Alice’s eyes on her, watching the Saiyan get dressed. The Saiyan turned around and caught sight of her sword in Alice’s hands. The blond handed over the blade. Pan bowed her head as she took the sword.

The Right Turn in History

“Thank you Mistress,” Pan said reverently.

“Now I’ve told my mother you are the best pet anyone can get. I want you to prove it by beating my sister’s pet in combat,” Alice explained.

“I won’t let you down, Mistress,” Pan said. Alice nodded to the Saiyan then led the way from the room. She led the Saiyan to an arena outside of the castle that Pan had never noticed before even though Alice would sometimes take Pan for ‘walkies’ outside of the castle.

Alice removed the leash from Pan’s collar. The Overlord stared at the woman. Alice attached the sheath to Pan’s waist. Ebony eyes closed as Alice pressed her lips to Pan’s forehead.

“Don’t let me down, Seta,” Alice whispered into the Saiyan’s ear. A pleasant shiver trailed down Pan’s spine at the sensation of Alice’s breath against her ear.

“I won’t, Mistress,” Pan promised. Her tail curled around her waist before she turned around. She stepped through the door while Alice went to sit with her two sisters and her mother in the Royal Box.

“Ladies and gentlemen! Please welcome a newcomer to the arena: Seta the Bloodthirsty! Seta is a nineteen year old Saiyan Overlord owned by Princess Alice!” an announcer called out.

The roar of the audience was deafening. Everyone was excited to see two slaves battle it out gladiator style. She squinted against the bright orange light of the single sun that hovered high in the sky. Almost instantly sweat broke out on Pan’s face, chest, and back.

The sunlight glinted off of the pommel of Pan’s sword as well as the collar around Pan’s neck.

Cheers broke out again as Pan’s opponent finally left the opposite door. Surprise crossed Pan’s face as she realized her opponent was also female. Pan stepped forward, her boots kicking up dust. Her opponent’s movements also kicked up dust. Pan realized that while her hair was black, her opponent’s was red. Where Pan’s eyes were black, her opponent’s were emerald green. The two women were of the same height and build however. But, Pan’s opponent did not possess a tail.

“Ladies and gentlemen! Join me in welcoming the crowd favorite: Elaine the Unforgiving!” the announcer called out. Pan had completely forgotten the names of the Queen and the other two princesses. But she felt that the names were unimportant. She only needed to remember Alice’s.

The two women met in the middle of the arena. They both had the same symbol on their fronts and backs. Pan wore black, Elaine wore red.

Ebony eyes locked onto green. Pan could feel Alice watching intently, eager to see how Pan did in battle.

“Throw the match,” Elaine said. Pan was taken aback by the simple sentence. Elaine had a rougher accent than Alice did. Pan only had to assume that the rougher accent belonged to those of the lower classes.

“I’m afraid I can’t do that,” Pan said, shaking her head. Her ebony hair fell in front of her eyes.

“If that is your final decision…” Elaine said. She reached behind her, grabbing onto the hilt of a large claymore type sword. She removed it from the sheath easily. Pan smiled as she removed her own sword from her hip.

“It is,” Pan confirmed.

“Fight!” the announcer called out. In a flash the two women shot towards each other. The sun glinted off of their blades. A sharp ringing sound rent the air as sword crashed against sword. A low growl left Pan’s lips as she shoved at Elaine’s sword. Elaine had never fought an opponent like Pan so she was thrown off-balance. She stumbled backward, Pan following her.

The Saiyan slashed at Elaine. In the blink of an eye, a rip appeared in Elaine’s tunic. Elaine gasped in surprise, touching her hand to the torn cloth. The woman frowned then rushed forward, slicing at Pan. The Overlord easily parried each of her opponent’s blows.

Pan did not know how much time had passed as she fought against Elaine. Even though Elaine was much weaker than Pan when it came to power level, Elaine’s skills with a blade easily matched Pan’s.

Sweat poured down both women’s faces. The sweat forced their tunics to cling to their backs. Blood also dripped from open wounds. They were merely superficial wounds but were big enough to be a hindrance. Sweat dipped into the slashes which caused a stinging sensation.

Before Pan could bring her blade up to slash at Elaine’s arm, the redhead collapsed to one knee. Pan’s arms flexed as she held the sword up above her head. Elaine kept her head down, as if ashamed to look at her opponent’s face. The tip of Pan’s sword dropped to the ground. Elaine caught sight of the blade tip, prompting her to cautiously look up at her victorious opponent.

Pan wiped her blade on her leg then slid the sword into its home on her hip. The roar of booing and hissing was deafening. The audience was clearly upset by the poor end to the fight.

The Saiyan slapped her hands to her head as an extremely familiar explosion of pain burst in her head. She collapsed to her knees, her entire body shaking from the pain.

“You win… you have to kill me…” Elaine’s voice somehow penetrated the noise surrounding Pan. Pan stared at her opponent, slowly shaking her head.

“No… you deserve to live,” Pan murmured.

“Not according to your mistress,” Elaine said, nodding her head towards Pan’s hand. The Saiyan glanced down, staring in surprise as she caught sight of her hand going to the pommel of her sword.

Using all of her willpower, the Overlord clambered to her feet. Ki glowed at the tip of Pan’s index finger. She pointed it at Elaine’s left shoulder. The redhead stared with unmasked confusion.

“With this final blow I will allow you to live. I let you live so that you may become stronger and we will one day fight again. When that day comes you will be strong enough that I will have to ascend into a higher state of being. Until then, you will live with the knowledge that I let you live,” Pan said. With her small speech over, she fired off a single beam of ki. It shot right through Elaine’s shoulder, causing the redhead to cry out in pain and grab at her wound.

“And that is it ladies and gentlemen! The battle is done! Our new champion is Seta the Bloodthirsty!” the announcer called out once he got over the shock of the lack of a death.

Pan stared at her wounded opponent. She ignored Alice’s nudging to kill Elaine. It is not honorable to kill an opponent who is unarmed and properly defeated. The battle is done, I cannot kill an opponent when the battle is through, Pan thought.

“You will regret this decision, Seta,” Elaine murmured, though she could not hide the fact that she was grateful Pan had not killed her.

“I regret a lot of things. This is something I do not think I will regret,” Pan said. “Good bye Elaine. I hope to see you again.”

With those final words, Pan left the middle of the arena. Before she could move far, she felt Alice’s hand on her ear. She yelped in pain as Alice dragged Pan away from the arena.

“You deliberately disobeyed me, Seta,” Alice said, throwing Pan to the floor once they were in the dungeon of the castle.

“Mistress, I can’t kill an unarmed opponent. It is not honorable!” Pan insisted as she sat on her knees in front of the blond woman.

“I did not ask you about what is honorable. I gave you an order,” Alice growled, grabbing at Pan’s throat just above where the collar rested.

“Mistress I think what I did today will turn out to be a good thing later on. Later on I may be able to call upon her help, if it is ever needed,” Pan said. Her tail rested on the ground.

“Did I ask you for your opinion?” Alice asked.

“No, Mistress. I am simply trying to explain my reasoning,” Pan said.

“Arms up,” Alice commanded. Pan got to her feet then held her arms up as told. Her eyes closed as she felt the chain attached to the cuffs around her wrists. The other end of the chain was then attached to a loop in the ceiling. Pan grunted as she felt her feet leave the ground.

“I want you to count each lash I give you. Count out loud. If you screw up in your counting it will go back to one. If you can’t get the number out, the count will go back to one,” Alice said. She conjured up a web of magic to freeze Pan in place, the Saiyan’s back exposed to Alice.

As she was told to, Pan counted out each lash. Tears of anguish trickled down her cheeks as she was whipped repeatedly. Her entire back resembled steak tartar by the time Alice was satisfied she had sufficiently punished Pan.

With a snap of her fingers, the chain was undone from the hoop which caused Pan to hit the ground hard. No cracks were heard, which meant all of Pan’s bones were still in one piece. Pan could not move no matter what she told herself. So, she relegated herself to just lying on the floor.

Her blood was hot and sticky and she was idly aware of just how much was pooling out of her sores and popped blisters. Alice placed one booted foot on Pan’s back, right on top of a particularly large and nasty blister. Pan gasped and forced herself not to move or else the blister would pop.

“Tomorrow I want you to befriend my sister’s pet. I don’t care how you do it. I just want it done. You are right, what you did today may very well be helpful in the future,” Alice said. She pressed down on the blister, causing Pan to scream as it popped. Pus and blood oozed out of the blister, causing Pan to whimper into her arm. Pan did not bother to ask just what Alice was planning. None of it concerned her; all she had to do was obey orders.

“Yes… Mistress…” Pan gasped out. Alice removed her foot from Pan’s back. Pan felt herself slipping into unconsciousness. Just before she was entirely lost to the blackness she felt warm, soapy water on her back. Alice cleaned Pan’s back while the Saiyan was out cold.
