Oboe was sitting on a rock, the same one as the day before. Though it was a rock, he always found it to be surprisingly comfortable. In his hand was a letter that he had received the day before from an odd robed man. He couldn’t see the man’s face, as it was concealed behind a hood, but due to the fact that one of their antennae was sticking out, he could at least tell that they were a Namekian.

He unfolded the letter and skimmed through it once more. He could hardly believe what it had said last time, so he figured he needed to reread it for a seventh time. Though he didn’t acknowledge it, he was somewhat nervous about the unusual letter.

It was completely handwritten, though he couldn’t recognize who’s writing it was. Not that he had seen too many Namekians write before. The entire thing was scrawled and looked like it had been written in a hurry. There was a small splash of ink on the side of the paper. The entire thing was, of course, written out in somewhat complicated Namekian characters.

“There has been a recent outbreak of murder in the general area. Apparently, the perpetrator has been targeting the handful of Namekians who weren’t born here on Namek. I have reason to believe that you could be one of his next targets. Be on your guard from here on out.”

The note was anonymous, and Oboe didn’t recognize the handwriting. It could have been from anyone, even the murderer himself. Of course, then again it might not actually be true, perhaps just someone trying to scare him. But why would they do that? He hadn’t a clue, but assumed it would likely be none of his concern. He simply ignored the note for about a day.

Oboe was sitting on his knees by a calm stream. He looked into the jade green water to see his reflection peering back at him. Though he was beginning to look more and more like an adult, his face still appeared slightly like that of a child. He looked carefully at the marking that was on his forehead in between his antennae. It was somewhat unusual, a rhombus shaped patch of skin, slightly raised above the rest of his skin. It was a bright yellow color, the same shade as the markings he had on his arm.

Oboe cupped his hands together, bent over and placed them just under the surface of the water. He then drew his hands up to his mouth and took a sip of it. Just as he was about to swallow, he thought he heard something, perhaps footsteps. He gulped down the water with a heavy swallow and quickly turned around. However, there was nothing behind him that was animate, just a few rocks scattered by a nearby cliff. He closed his eyes and took a deep breath in through his nose and then out through his mouth to calm himself down.

It was probably just nothing,” he thought. “It was probably just a frog or some other small animal

Then he felt something, a large flare of ki, far greater than any frog would be able to put out. He immediately spun around only to be hit in the face by a small orb of ki. The force of the blow knocked his head back a little ways. He immediately stood up straight and scanned his surroundings, looking in the direction of where the attack came from, but there wasn’t anything there. He started to panic and turned around again to find a menacing figure with a dark robe behind him.

A/N: The markings Namekians have on their arms appear pink in the anime, but yellow in the manga (though sometimes closer to orange in older individuals). I went by the manga color scheme when I did his design and I stuck with it. By the way, the rhombus shaped marking was inspired by a character customization option in Dragon Ball Online.

The man in the robe immediately threw a punch aimed for Oboe’s face, but he caught it in his fist and retaliated with a swift uppercut to his attacker’s jaw. The hit was followed up with a powerful kick to the gut, knocking his opponent back a bit. Oboe took a quick step back and raised his hand behind his head. He brought his arm forward quickly and it shot out in front of him, extending to more than five times its natural length. He gripped his foe by the neck and retracted his arm back to its normal size, dragging his opponent with him. Their faces were mere inches away from each other. Oboe bared his fangs at his assailant in a menacing manner.

“Who the hell do you think you are!?” he shouted.

He knocked the man’s hood off to reveal a very scruffy Namekian face. He was rather young, probably not much older than Oboe was physically, but he had a hint of maturity to him. His antennae were rather thick and slightly longer than most. But his most notable feature was a slanted scar on the bridge of his nose.

Oboe thought he had never seen him before, but something felt familiar. Then something struck him. This was the same man who had given him the letter of warning about a murderer the previous day. He was absolutely sure of it. They were even wearing the same cloak.

“You’re… you’re the man from yesterday…!” he said in realization of that fact.

“Heh,” the man laughed. “You’re certainly a fool. I told you to be on your guard, that someone was after you, going to kill you. But you didn’t heed my warning.”

“What do you want with me!?” Oboe screamed.

“I told you in the letter,” the man said gruffly. “I want to kill you.”

The Legend
Gero was hanging out by is training spot. It has recently been the spot he has loved to hang out at. Having lost alot of his spars in the other dimension and the battle from Oboe was very exhausting. Gero decided to take some time way from training. Normally he hits the grind to further his knowledge, but he has learned that rest is also a key to. Looking up in the air, the stars where bright even though the sun was out. It was a rare to see stars on namek but they shined maybe three times a year.

Gero smirked as all he had on his mind was losing all those spars. He wondered what he was doing wrong and how he could fix these problems he was having. Every fighter he fought was way out of his league. For some reason they had powers way beyond his. They even seemed alot strong than Master Guru. Gero shook his head as he knew no one was even close to the power Master Guru had.

Gero finally raised his body from where he was laying at. The waterfall was flowing at a steady pace. Gero loved the sound that it made as it crashed down into the ground. Getting up on his feet, Gero stretched out his arms to get ready to head to town. His home village was near and he hasn't seen Master Polik in some time, so he wanted to surprise him. Looking around, Gero dashed up in the sky to head there.

The planet namek has been pretty steady lately since there hasn't been too much happening around here. Normally there are visitors here to take over the namek dragon balls. Lately people have been leaving this planet alone, which has been good for Gero to get stronger. The next time some one comes here; he will be ready for them. As he could see the town in the distance, Gero smirked with a smile acrossed his face.

"Home sweet home" softly spoke Gero as he headed straight for his home town.

"It's not what you've done, it's that you exist," the Namekian said. "You're not one of us, and you'll never be. Your father was only half a person, why should you be treated any differently?"

"Don't you talk about my father!" Oboe yelled. A need for revenge now fueled him. He blindly charged at the murderer and punched him hard enough to send him flying into a nearby cliff. Its rock face shattered into a flurry of of bits and pieces, some large, others small. Oboe rushed over to the wreckage and examined the rubble, hoping to find the man and put a stop to the madness he was responsible for. As he shifted through the debris, after a short while it became apparent that his opponent wasn't there, and had probably fled. Oboe floated up into the air to get a clear vantage point and looked around, hoping to find some sort of trace of where the man had gone. He saw a lone figure standing on a nearby plain. Oboe thought for sure that this had to be the man that he was after. At first he thought to try ambushing his opponent from above, but for one reason or another, he decided not to. Instead, he swooped down and readied himself for another fight. However, the person he was facing was not the mysterious assailant, but rather a friend of his.

"Gero?" Oboe said. "Have you seen anyone around here who looks... suspicious? Possibly wearing a dark sort of cloak? I think he has some sort of grudge on me, apparently because of my heritage. He's apparently a criminal of some sort, and probably wanted. If there's a bounty or something on him, you can have it, but I need to settle this now. Nothing else matters right now."

“Argh, who am I kidding? I don’t have enough time for this right now- I’ve got to find him!” Oboe said. With that, he leaped off of the ground and floated high above the surrounding landmarks. He scanned the area below, hoping to find even a trace of the man he was after. His sensitive ears listened carefully for anything that could even resemble footsteps. For an instant, he thought he heard something and immediately rushed down to see what it was, landing with a soft tap. He quickly examined the area and found nothing of interest but a small frog-like creature with long antennae. Perhaps he was becoming delusional.

Oboe took a deep breath in and slowly out. “Get a grip on yourself,” he thought. “You’re going insane just because someone insulted your father. Pull yourself together and act civil. If you go mad, he’ll certainly gain the upper hand. That’s how he escaped.” He tuned his ears in to his surroundings once more, his eyes shut in concentration. He could clearly hear lightweight shoes stepping on hard stone. The sound was coming from somewhere to his left.

Oboe opened his eyes and looked over his left shoulder, slowly turning his entire body to face in that direction. In front of him was the wide, ominous mouth of a cave. The roof and floor were lined with row upon row of stalactites and stalagmites, appearing to form a sort of rocky imitation of a beast’s jaw. Cautiously, he crept into the cave, the light from the entrance slowly dimming with each passing step. As he turned a corner, it suddenly became too dark for him to see. He put his hand centimeters away from his face and found that it was impossible to see it. But he could still hear.

Oboe tried desperately not to think about the fact he couldn’t see anything. He still had his greatest asset- his hearing. Without it, he wouldn’t even have come in this cave. But now he was beginning to doubt himself. What if the noises he heard weren’t footsteps at all? Perhaps they were drops of water falling from the roof of the cave. He started to head back in the direction that he had come, but bumped head first into a wall and fell to the ground. Oboe clutched his head and rubbed it a bit, the pain quickly subsiding. “Wait a second, which way did I come?” he thought. “Don’t tell me I’m lost. Oboe stood up straight and strained his eyes, hoping to see some sort of light pointing towards and exit, but there was nothing. Everything in the cave was pitch black. It would be virtually impossible to find his way out.

He hadn’t a clue where he was now, as he thought that where he was going previously was the exit. He turned around and began walking straight. “Perhaps,” he thought, “If I just keep walking forward, I’ll eventually reach an exit of some sort. Or it could just be another dead end.” But he tried to keep his mind on the positive, and hoped to find the way out. After a little less than a minute of walking, he thought he heard something within the darkness, something like breathing. But that couldn’t be. He was certainly the only one in here. Unless that killer actually was in the cave with him. He tried to stay as calm as he could, but he realized that if he wasn’t alone, there would be virtually no way to defend himself in the darkness. He was bound to take the first hit if someone should decide to strike now.

Oboe could hear the breathing sound again. This time, however, it was louder than before. It seemed closer than ever, like an animal slowly drawing nearer to its prey. Oboe’s body became tense. Something was about to happen, and he was determined not to let it happen to him. Suddenly, a soft hue of light emerged from nowhere to his rear. He immediately spun around just in time to see a small blast of ki and jump above it. However, he jumped too high, and ended up banging his head on the ceiling. He fell to the ground with a loud thud, but immediately stood back up again. Once again, there was no light to see by. He was left to rely solely on his hearing, hoping to hear his opponent’s moves before he was to make them.

To his right, he heard the sound of soft footsteps. His opponent was clever in trying to keep as quiet as possible. Oboe spun around, stretching his arm out as he did. It expanded long enough to cover the distance between him and the wall. His arm slammed into what he felt to be his opponent’s stomach. Trying to keep a good idea of where his opponent was, he leaped forward with his fist outstretched, trying to punch the assailant. But when he reached the supposed spot, the man was no longer there. He heard footsteps not in front of him, but everywhere. It seemed his opponent was circling around him in an attempt to confuse his sense of hearing. However, he could hear the footsteps getting louder, closing in on him. And as the assailant drew nearer, he could feel the breeze made by his movements with his antennae. Each movement made produced small ripples in the air around him, just large enough for him to detect.

Oboe’s antennae stood straight up. He tried to perceive the air around him, hoping that it might hold some sort of clue as to where his opponent was. As the breeze encircling him became closer, he could tell precisely where his opponent was. Oboe’s eyes lit up a bright blue and two thin beams of light shot out of them, shocking the man he was fighting and stunning him momentarily. Oboe then delivered a heavy punch to the gut, but made sure this time to not let him go flying. His opponent struck back with a flurry of fast repeated punches that Oboe had no time to block. The man then hammered him hard to the face.

“You’re wondering how I’m fighting so well in this cave, aren’t you? I can sense your ki,” the man said.

Oboe followed the direction of his voice and came in with a kick he felt hit the man’s face. He then pushed off of his face and stepped back. However, the murderer’s arm stretched out and grasped Oboe by the neck. He retracted his arm and pushed Oboe up against the wall of the cave. The man pulled his fist back, getting ready to strike. Oboe opened his mouth as wide as he could and focused a bit of his ki into it. Right as the assailant’s punch was about to connect, a blast of ki coming out of Oboe’s mouth enveloped him, causing him to lose his grip. Oboe leaped above the man just enough to avoid hitting the ceiling and landed on the other side of him. He then pulled his own hand back, it now crackling with a bit of ki and punched him square in the gut, smashing him through the wall. Sunlight now poured through the opening and Oboe could clearly see his bloodied opponent lying on the ground.

Oboe’s eyes locked with his opponents. He took his axe off of his back and pointed it at the man. “This is it,” he thought. “With one last blow, I can end this.

“Go ahead,” the man said. “Finish me off, I suppose I deserve it.”

Oboe lowered his weapon. “I… I can’t do it,” he said. “You haven’t killed anyone else, have you? There aren’t any other Namekians who weren’t born here. And you know now that you can’t kill me, so what’s the point?”

“What the…? What’s the point? You won, didn’t you? Then kill me!”

Oboe returned his axe to his back. “You didn’t hurt anyone but me. You wouldn’t have any reason to kill anyone else. And I don’t want to have to kill anyone, especially if I don’t have to. Just go.”

“This is crazy,” the other Namekian said, scrambling to his feet. “I was thinking you’d be hostile, more evil since you weren’t raised here, and killing me would have proved that. But you’re no different from the rest of us, are you? If you can bring mercy to someone who tried to kill you just because they were suspicious of your motives, then I think you have the right to be called a Namekian.”

The two contemplated one another for a moment. Within one another rose a feeling of mutual respect. The man who had tried to kill Oboe reached his hand out. Oboe reached out and took it. The pair smiled for a second.

“I… I’m sorry,” the man said.

“It’s not a problem. You just shouldn’t judge people based on where they’re from. Take some time to get to know them.”

The other Namekian floated above the ground slightly and flew off into the distance, waving as he did. Oboe thought he could hear a “thank you” coming from his direction.
