Trumpet laid on his mat in the upper room of Elder Struv’s hut, which was effectively his home as well. Usually you wouldn’t find a namekian in one of those “bedrooms” unless it was night time, but he had stayed up there even after Struv had awakened. Judging by the amount of heat passing through the thatched roof, Trumpet figured it was somewhere around midday – very late for him to still be lying around. If not for how hard he had been pushing himself the last week, he felt sure Struv would have come up and forcefully brought him outside by now. He needed his training, he knew that, but he couldn’t concentrate enough to get anything worthwhile done while his mind was so at work. The subject of his thoughts? The seven mystical Dragonballs of Planet Namek – said to grant whoever brings them together at once and speaks the magic words one wish for anything within Porunga’s (The dragon that resides in the dragonballs) powers. His idea was to somehow convince Guru to let him use the dragonballs to summon Porunga and wish to become a Paladin. The more he thought about it, however, the less he wanted to make that wish. Becoming a paladin wouldn’t be the same if he hadn’t earned it with hard work. What else could he wish for to assist him in his quest for Paladin-ship? Maybe he could ask Porunga to make his heart totally pure, so that he would never stray off of the path he had chosen for himself a hundred years ago. Heaving a deep sigh, the young namekian rubbed an arm across his sweaty brow. It became very hot in those upper rest quarters during the daylight hours, and it was starting to convince Trumpet to get up and go outside for awhile. |

A few minutes and about twenty degrees later, Trumpet sat against one of the many trees that dotted planet Namek. It’s thin trunk and high foliage didn’t provide much shade, but at eighty-degrees, it was actually quite pleasant compared to his hut’s upper resting room. His mind still on the same topic, Trumpet was now less worried about what he’d wish for, and more so about how to convince Guru to allow him to use them. Letting anyone summon Porunga was a major risk, because there was always a chance they would use the eternal dragon’s powers for dark reasons. He felt sure Guru would know he had no such intentions, but that didn’t mean the wise elder would just hand over such sacred artifacts. For about a half hour Trumpet sat there, pondering the possibilities until he finally decided on a course of action. He would just approach Guru and ask for the dragonballs. If it didn’t work, then it was because his elder didn’t want anyone at all having their deepest wish granted by Porunga. Confident, but still dubious, Trumpet stood up and stretched. As he rose into the air and took off towards Guru’s village to the north, he wondered where Elder Struv was at, as he hadn’t seen him all day long. He figured that the old namekian was tending to some errands, but normally Struv would have woke him up and sent him out to do such things. Disturbed, but deciding his master was just fine and probably out seeing an old friend, he poured on some more speed, looking like an arrow as he darted across the sky. Since learning how to fly he was able to get around much quicker, and spent far less energy in the process compared to how he used to run wherever he needed to go. |

About five minutes later, Trumpet landed in the middle of Guru’s village, Tarshok. People milled about slowly, some performing various tasks while others just enjoyed the summer day. Just ahead, Trumpet noticed several warriors exiting Guru’s hut, while three others entered. It was time for the guard to change. At all hours of the day, four guardians stood watch over Guru to ensure he was protected from any threat, whether significant or not. Only one of those four stayed on duty constantly; Kizu, the head bodyguard. He was also the one that chose which children were to be trained as guardians, and who would train them. He had been the one to place Trumpet in the care of Elder Struv. Trumpet walked towards the hut, waving and greeting those he passed along the way until he was at the door. One guard stood on either side of the metal structure, holding steel spears in their hands. “I must speak to Grand Elder Guru,” Trumpet said in the ancient namekian language, always used on formal occasions. “You may enter,” said a familiar voice from inside the temple. It was not sound, but thought that Trumpet and the guards heard. Guru always spoke telepathically. Trumpet walked past the guards as the door opened seemingly of it’s own accord, allowing the young namekian entrance. As always, Kizu stood at his master’s side while the other guard stood just to the right of the door, hidden from plain view so as to surprise any that gained force entrance to the structure. As per usual, Guru sat upon his massive chair, his eyes closed and his hands on the arm rests. He always appeared to be sleeping, but all namekians knew that the grand elder was just as aware of everything around him through telepathy as he would have been with the usual five senses. |

Speaking aloud through the minds of those inside the hut, Guru addressed Trumpet. “Hello, young one. What brings you here to my humble abode this day?” said the deep voice. Just hearing the sound of it one could tell that Guru possessed very deep knowledge and endless wisdom to share. Speaking out loud for the sake of Kizu and the other two bodyguards, Trumpet replied, “Elder… I come today seeking your permission to summon the eternal dragon, Porunga. I wish to ask him for the power to become a Paladin.” Holding his breath, the much younger namekian could only pray to the great creator that Guru would grant him this. For a moment only the Grand Elder’s slow and steady breathing could be heard, as the bodyguards, even Kizu, were holding their breath as well, curious as to what Guru’s answer would be. “I can sense that your heart is pure, as I have always known it to be. You have the advantage of never having been tainted by evil, but one day you will be faced with a choice, one that I fear may tear you apart,” he finally answered, seeming to avoid the question presented to him by Trumpet. Before the wishful warrior could argue his case, Guru continued. “Without the power to confront evil, one is sure to be taken in by it. If I deny you this, one day it will be the undoing of perhaps and entire world. You may have my dragonball.” A wide smile spread across Trumpet’s face. “Thank you, Grand Elder! I-“ It hit him that Guru had only said dragonball, meaning only one of the seven. “You do not have all seven of the dragonballs, elder?” A slight chuckle that turned into a wheeze was his reply. “No my son, the other six are scattered across Namek. You must seek them out, and with this I cannot help you.” Trumpet nodded slowly, reaching out and grabbing hold of the large Dragonball Kizu had retrieve and held out for him. “Thank you, Grand Elder, I won’t let you down.” Before anyone could say anything else, Trumpet had darted out of the building and taken to the air back to Elder Struv’s hut.
