The Right Turn in History
|
Yes, my 2 year anniversary on this site was yesterday. What I've learned: 1) Some people get really invested in things and sometimes can't separate OOC from IC. But that's okay, so long as you don't go overboard. 2) DBZ is still something with quite a fandom even tho it has been decades since the series ended in the US. There are various degrees of fans on this site. Some are barely familiar with the show, others are very obsessed and get bitchy if something is off about the way we do things on the site. 3) There is no set demographic for the RPers here. We have males and females. We have preteens, teens, those in their 20s and we even have some in their 30s. We have gay people, straight people, and people who don't know what sexuality they are yet. We have high school dropouts, high school graduates, college dropouts, and college graduates. Some of us are in the US, others are in the UK and other parts of Europe. Some of us are members of the military or former members of the military. Some of us are supporters of the military, some of us think we should get rid of the military all together. We have all sorts of people from all walks of life on this site. Which makes things great. 4) There is no limit to the imagination. my character has met Gods/Goddesses, sorcerers, been a slave, been a master. There is magic mixed with Ki. We all have our own little stories, some of us share those stories while others of us are selfish and keep our stories held close to our chests. And that's okay. 5) We all get mad over something. It doesn't matter if we do, so long as we can get over it. 6) Friends are not always for life, but you will never forget the people you met while RPing. You will never forget the times you laughed, cried, or got mad at someone else because they did something you did not agree with. And you will also remember you forgave the other person, and that you can share those experiences later on. 7) I'm not the RPer I once was. I used to be able to write so much in such a short amount of time in a chat room, but now it takes me a long time to come up with something to write. People say I'm one of the best on here, and I guess that's their opinion. But I've still got a ways to go. 8) People pick sides. That is how things are going to go. I can't do anything about it. 9) People are going to hate you. Not everyone is going to like you and you just have to deal with it. But just keep going. Because if they're going to hate you, at least don't let them win and quit because they hate you. 10) Writing is a release. Some people force themselves to pad their word count, making their writing suffer. I can see it when I look at someone else's writing. But that's okay, I guess. 11) Not everyone is here to become better writers. They just want to play the game. And that's okay. |

Oddly... I enjoyed reading that. I agreed with just about all of it, and in my 2 years (My anniversary is on the 14th!) I have observed exactly these things. It would be good for newer members to read these things and remember them. Great Job, Pan-Chan. |

lol, would you have remembered if I hadn't mentioned it? ![]() Anyways, I've been here for two years as well(but passed my 2 year without acclaim) and I have to agree with a lot you put there. Although, I guess I ended up becoming even more skewered in personality, less prone to caring about my personal feelings towards something and a somewhat better writer. I'd say more, but currently I'm being distracted by corn dogs. Mmmmm...corn dogs. |

Thanks. There are a few other things. Like the need to just remember that everyone is here mostly to forget the real world. Such things like that. Glad you guys enjoyed it. |

I enjoyed it quite a bit myself. Wanna know what I learned in my two years here? No? Good. I learned how to write decently. Ya, that's right, I consider my writing decent. FUCK YOU HATERS! ![]() And now, I end my hijacking of Pan's speech by saying... Nice. I vote yes for tacos! Who seconds my motion? |

What I've learned in 4 years on and off of adbz... How to write. Though I still say i suck, my english teachers are usually surprised at my creativity and writing. |

While I've only been here a few months, I can honestly say that everything you've said seems to hit the nail on the head. |

Totally out of character with this one. (I can see time immediately stop and shock falling upon peoples faces but hey there's always a first for everyone. Kinda like my first rp post. HA!) I agree with Pan on most of what she said except the cry part. Anyone who cries from being angry over something role play related truly needs to seek psychiatric help. Like with any game, you get angry sure and if you're a true gamer, you'll probably throw a controller or two (meaning; bitch, complain, let your feelings be heard) but cry? as an emotional reaction to a good story, maybe. I've read role plays that were so well written they did make me feel as if I was right there experiencing the story. Yes I laughed, got teary eyed and angry because of things that occurred in the stories. Hell I use to write those types of story based role plays when I was very serious about writing, creativity, character development, story telling and role playing but just like Pan said, as time went by I found myself writing less and less and eventually writing nothing at all which became the reason why I make mistakes in my writing and never bother correcting them. (You can also blame myspace rping for what helped in killing my love for creative writing) Comedy however has always been a love of mine and It's easy to write. That's why when I re-joined Alex's RPG I chose to go a different route than most. I chose to pick a lesser character rather than go for the top guys in DBZ because I seen the potential for laughs in that character and yes I do stay In character 99% of the time but thats because It's fun and RPG's are all about having fun, Oh and staying in character also maintains a sense of creativity when I do write rp's. What I wrote in the role play thread took me maybe 5 minutes at best and I could have written loads more but I wanted to keep it at a minimum so I could have a continuation story. I've always believed if you write too much each time you eventually create a writers block. Now, what have I learned? Dont let my join info fool you. I've probably been here for close to three years give or take some days and I've had my issues with Alex and other members in the past which is why my old account doesnt exist anymore and I stayed gone for quite some time because pride wouldnt allow me to forgive or forget but finally I talked to Alex and we both mended our problems and since returning I've had a blast rping here and havent had this much fun in a long time on any other rpg. So what have I learned? I've learned to never judge a book by it's cover because the story itself could entertain the fuck out of you. I've also got a lot of respect for everyone on here and respect is what makes it easier to have fun on a rpg. If you lose respect, you lose the fun aspect of the game. Oh and I learned from past experiences to not involve myself in drama or like Pan said "Take sides" because taking sides only leads to trouble from either end. So now I stand in the middle, unbiased and merely a spectator of any future drama that occurs. Thats all I can think off for now. Every day is a learning experience and as time goes by this "What have you learned" question will gradually become easier to answer. |
