You've probably all heard of this game by now, but if you haven't, I reccomend looking it up. It's a Korean made MMORPG based on the Dragon Ball franchise. I actually got introduced to this site from Razak's signature on a forum I moderate that has to do with the game. I'd plug it, but I'm too lazy. ![]() Either way, a lot of the people over there have accounts for the Korean version, which just exited open beta testing, including myself. It's a pain in butt to get one, as you need to either "find" a KSSN to register or know someone Korean who's willing to lend you theirs and authenticate the account for you. I actually got a fellow mod to lend me his spar account, so I'm not sure which he did with this one. Either way, there's not exactly much the Korean government can do if you play the game, as there's already a large number of foriegn players. Need proof? Here's a screenshot of my character: Link Kiyza is the name I use everywhere else on the internet, but there's also an alternate character named "Oboekun." For those of you looking for what exactly the game is all about, here's a link to a tranlation of a lot of the plot. For those of you looking for opinions on the game, here's what I've got to say. This game has a lot going for it with the Dragon Ball theme, obviously. It has a pretty responsive combat system, but a lot needs to be improved. Travelling from place to place takes way too long if you can't teleport like some classes, but that's just a minor complaint. The game, unlike many Korean MMOs, isn't very grindy at all. I've only grinded once or twice, and I only did so for around half an hour. There are a lot of quests to do, and after a certain point, they become repeatables ones, which cost money to do, but pretty much get rid of grinding. The biggest issue for me is the balance, though. Humans are insanely over powered in this game. They're PvP gods essentially. You can't do much with a Namekian, try as you might. Still, it's important to know that the game was only recently released, and classes will likely be evened up before an English release. Before the official release, Dragon Clan Namekians were insanely over powered for PvP and PvE. They were nerfed with the last patch that affected skills. That'll likely happen with everything for a while. Now I bet some of you are going to ask "when's this coming out in English?" We still don't know. All we do know is that the game is being translated in Japanese at the moment and that Namco Bandai, who's in charge of localizing the game, is interested in releasing it if a Japanese release goes well. Needless to say, the Japanese are going to eat this up, and I'll likely be doing so with them. For a Japanese release, pretty much anyone will be able to play, but there's still a language barrier. My Japanese still leaves a heck of a lot to be desired as I can't actually read anything. >.< Maybe I'll at least be able to talk to people a bit if they can read Romanzied text. Qustions, comments and so on? Post them here. |

Quest grinding is still grinding. Doesn't mean it's not fun though. Hell, WoW 1-80 is nothing but grinding now. I'll probably stick with WoW: Cataclysm and The Old Republic, though. They'll both eat up all my time that Starcraft 2 hasn't previously consumed. |

Like most Korean made games, it's free to play with a cash shop, and it almost definately will be for a US release as well. You can download it on the main Korean site, but it'll take a while. The url is http://dbo.netmarble.net Alternatively, there's a torrent file for downloading it, but you'll have to patch the game a lot afterwards. Link Either way, you need an account for either first. |

Oh yeah, that. The Human characters have a very minute ammount of Saiyan blood and are descendants of Goku and Vegeta. Other races have similar transformations. Majin get a pure form that looks like "Chibi" Boo but keeps their skin color. Namekians get a giant transformation. In order to obtain any of them, your character needs to be level 50 and you have to collect the dragon balls and wish for the transformation. |

But, as you previously stated, you'd need a korean verified account in order to play. http://www.dbocom.com/forum/showthread.php?t=852 |

I found this article about the world wide release of DBO, it's a year old by now but it's still helpful... disappointing but helpful nonetheless. Maybe the projected dates have changed since then? |

Just a word of advice, but don't trust that site for anything. It's known for its inaccuracy on many parts of the internet. No one knows for sure when exactly it'll see an American/Japanese release, but we do that it's at least being translated into Japanese. Judging by the fact this is almost definately going to be huge, they may well be translating it into English as well. However, Namco Bandai stated they want to know how well it'll do in Japan (Though I think they already know that it's going to do well) before it's released in America. If I had to take a wild guess, I'd say around half a year from now, maybe a little later. There's a lot of text in the game in need of translation. |

I can definitely see it doing smashingly well in Japan.. However, I can sympathize with Akira Toriyama's hesitance to push for an American release. I think the American fan base of the Dragonball series is somewhat overestimated. |

As large as the DBZ franchise was in American when i was young they could have easily made it in English by now but yeah they lost a large fan base when they didn't show it on t.v for a long time wonder what the hold up is all the screen shots are rely cool |

Toriyama's not in charge of releasing it. That's Namco Bandai's job. And trust me when I say the American fanbase is huge. Not quite as big as the Japanese one, but still enormous. It's mostly made up of casual fans as opposed to people who practically eat up everything about it like myself, but Dragon Ball games do exceptionally well here in America. Keep in mind that it's probably the most popular anime in this country with possible exception to Naruto. (Oh One Piece, what hast happened to thee?) With Kai airing on TV now, the fandom is bigger than it was a few years ago. |

I think it's nowhere near what it used to be.. I remember it being like the show back in the the day, but nowadays? Ehh. I could see it going either really well or just barely being a success, in America. I wouldn't be surprised either way |

I would argue that Bleach also has a relatively large fanbase, almost definitely more so than DBZ considering the currentness of it all. Yes, I know currentness isn't a real word. |

Dragon Ball appears to be more or less in mainstream attention a good lot of the time, thanks to the insane ammount of video games released and FUNimation constantly putting out more and more DVDs (and Blu-rays as of late) To say it's suddenly become a niche series is wrong all over. Sure it may not be as big as it was during the Toonami days, but it's still huge, just as big as the other major shonen series that are currently running. I'm not here to discuss "Well Bleach is more popular than Dragon Ball." I'm here to discuss Dragon Ball Online. Whether or not people will jump for joy at the release of this game is more a matter of how much they can improve it at the moment. People stick with games long term because they enjoy them. At the moment, the biggest thing this has going for it is Dragon Ball. Now if they were to throw flying into it and a few other things that would make it feel even more like the series, I think fans would jump for joy. |

Trust me when I say that those don't work. Lots of people have tried them. It'd likely be best to simply wait as people have done since the days before it was easy to import video games. But the "insant gratification" world we live in seems to undermine the idea of that. In this case, waiting would likely be best, as it's going to improve over time. As I've said before, it's just recently come out of open beta testing. The assumed level cap of 70 hasn't even been released yet. |

Have you tried it? I'd like to know if it works. If you haven't tried it, then you don't know for sure and I would still like to know if someone actually tries this method. Also... as with any generator, if the first number doesn't work you should try a few more times. |

I moderate a forum that has to do with the game. Many people have come up with the exact same KSSN generator and said that it doesn't work. If by some chance you happen to get the numbers right and it is someone's KSSN, then good for you. But it'd take a lot of luck and patients. |

Good to know... not that I was going to try using it, I just like having the knowledge that it doesn't work. If I play the game, it will be in English ... I'm not fond of subtitles (although I can and do tolerate them if needed) and playing a game I can't understand doesn't sound fun at all.
