Gosai sat atop Dizi's hut, staring out into the empty fields of planet Namek. His body still felt awkward, the damage slowly knitting from his battle with Chill. But the physical wounds were of little concern to him now. One might have confused his pose and stillness for meditation, but no. He was in mourning. As far as he knew his friends were dead. Or captured by Chill. He wasn't certain which fate was worse. They had followed him to this world. They had believed in his mission, vague though it was.

And they died for it.

I'm a terrible person. He thought to himself, watching the grass bend under the gentle Namekian breeze. A horrible leader, I took them all into a battle we couldn't win. I refused to believe Chill had gotten stronger than me. They paid for my being an arrogant bastard.

It wasn't the first time his thoughts had wandered to this track. Dealing with fallen friends was unfamiliar to him. Dealing with survivors guilt was as well. His eyes drooped closed for a moment as he considered his options. He could up and go. Forget Namek and try to leave all the painful memories behind. But no, that wasn't the 'Gosai' thing to do. He wouldn't run away from his past. He wouldn't hide from his mistakes.

Option two... was the slim hope that they were alive somewhere. That they had escaped the battle and were protected somewhere on Namek. It was this hope that drove the human now. The warm suns of the planet felt almost invigorating. If they're alive... maybe I can fix this though? Maybe I can just... go back home with them. I've tried to be a hero and I've failed at it. Maybe I should pack it in and go home before I screw up anyone else's lives? He thought to himself, sliding off the roof of Dizi's hut. He landed on the ground with a soft 'thump', his legs bowing slightly beneath him. Yes, this would take time to fix.

He'd already said his goodbyes to the Namekian before he went out to tend the fields with the remainder of the village. Now? Now, it was time to begin that lonely walk. He could feel the ki of a cluster of Namekians in the distance and so far as he knew it was as good a place as any to begin his search.

It was fortunate that Namek was a temperate planet, otherwise Gosai may have found himself in some trouble. The trek was taking longer than he had anticipated. The dull aches in his joints slowed him down but he pressed on, attempting to push himself back into shape. The cool wind across his face was an inviting friend as he marched into the distance however.

"How long have I been out here?" He wondered aloud, wishing he'd thought to bring water with him. Without the sun rising or setting there was no way to tell how long he'd been going, no all he had was the aggressive exhaustion of his body. And that was hardly accurate anymore.

But the depredations of his own body turning on him were not enough trouble for this journey. Oh, no. The native beasts of Namek seemed to sense in the boy an easy meal. Specifically in this case a massive bird swooping from the sky. One would have thought multi-colored feathers and an ear piercing shriek would have alerted the human to the avian presence but alas Gosai only became aware once the beast had caught him up in it's talons.

"One planet!" He shouted, feeling the creature's grip dig into his sides. "Just one planet where nothing tries to eat me! Is that so much to ask for!?" He demanded, placing his hands along the foot of his attacker. It didn't take much effort to squeeze hard enough to hear the cracking of... scales? Either way, he was quickly released by the angry avian.

Pushing his ki outward was a bit more of a chore than it had once been but he was able to stop his fall in time to be hit in the chest with his attacker's beak sending him bouncing off of the ground and back into the air before landing.

"This is going to be one of those days, isn't it?" He mumbled, looking at the bird as it finally landed a few yards away from him. "Yep. One of those days." He groaned, pushing himself into a sitting position.

Despite the human having proven to be a much more difficult meal than it had anticipated, Gosai's avian assailant refused to let the idea go as it rapidly pecked in his direction in an attempt to pick the human up in his mouth. Fortunately, even sore as he was Gosai had the speed to stay one step ahead of the creature. Even having time to think on his situation.

"Why does everything in the universe try to eat me!?" He demanded of no one in particular. "Is because of the gluttony? Some kind of poetic justice?" The young man continued to think on it, deftly evading another swipe of the bird beast's beak. "Because if that's the case, Universe I have a sad truth for ya: I've come to enjoy my gluttony. We have an understanding and I am not going to stop it!" He yelled, finally deciding to go on the offensive against the monster.

As the beak lunged forward again, Gosai drew his fist back. The two met halfway between human and bird with a resounding 'crack!' echoing across the landscape. The bird tottered for a moment before stumbling sideways and crashing over. Unconscious.

"Man it felt good to hit something." The dark haired youth declared, indeed feeling much better with that little release of his frustrations. Still, it had put him behind schedule and the young man still didn't quite feel like flying or even running. "Guess that means I'm skipping a bathroom break." Gosai muttered, walking forward again.

The triple suns of planet Namek continued to beat mercilessly down on him throughout the walk but invigorated by actually having a victory of something... anything... the human had a spring in his step and within an hour and a half found himself finally at a new village. The clustered powers were in the lower ranges. The ones he could sense at least. Having seen what hides on Namek he was reasonably certain some of their warriors were in hiding.

"Hello?" He called out, cupping his hands around his mouth. "Anybody here! I'm not going to hurt anyone I'm just... just looking for my friends. You couldn't have missed them, they look like me. All squishy and pink!"

It took several moments before any response could be made towards Gosai. Slowly however a larger Namekian emerged from a hut. From the wrinkles and paunched stomach the human assumed him to be the village elder. The Namekian studied Gosai for a long minute before shaking his head, deciding at last to speak with him.

"No." He declared evenly. "We have not seen any of your species."

"...Oh..." Gosai mumbled despondently. "Well, that's one more bit of hope gone. Thanks for your help, I suppose. Have you seen any kinds of aliens running around?" He asked after a few moments' thought.

The Namekian responded only by furrowing his brow. If the human could read their features better he might be able to see the anger across his face. "Yes. The short monster with the tail." He declared simply.

"Short with a-" Gosai froze mid-sentence. Only one person he knew matched that description and could be adequately called a 'Monster'. Chill. "He was here!?" The human fighter demanded, moving closer to the Namekian elder. "What happened? Where did he go!?" The question was frantic but ultimately it would be pointless. Even if Gosai did catch up with him what could he actually do? He'd been soundly trounced once already, twice wouldn't help anyone at all.

"I do not know which way the monster went, nor do I care to find out. My duty is simply to help rebuild this village and pray that our brethren are unharmed." The elder mumbled, shaking his head. This man was no warrior, and likely no healer either. He was simply the one whom the burden of the village's well being fell to after this tragedy. "Namek's days are growing dark, stranger. I would leave this world as quickly as you came to it."

"I'll take that under advisement." Gosai sighed, starting to take towards the sky. It was true though, the only thing that was happening these days it seemed... was that the galaxy was growing more dangerous by the day and the people he thought would never fall were not only fallen but didn't seem to be getting up.

"That's a terrible metaphor." The human muttered to himself before darting off in a random direction.

Wandering is considerably less fun when your only companion is survivor's guilt. The human martial artist was still having trouble with the idea that the people he'd come to care about like family, and in one case were family, were gone.

Shaking his head, Gosai hovered above the clouds looking down at the landscape of Namek. As a planet it was... interesting. The whole thing seemed to be one massive archipelago. It made locating the villages easy enough. Each one tended to have it's own small island. This was all information that meant little to Gosai however. He wasn't searching for specific Namekians. The human shut his eyes, feeling the warm breeze move along his face. It was almost relieving. And relaxing.

Relaxing enough for someone to penetrate his mind.

Go see him. The voice was a light whisper in his mind. The Elder has answers.

"And I've finally started going insane." He groaned, shaking his head. "See the 'Elder', eh? Somehow I doubt Guru really wants to talk to someone who brought that kind of death toll to his planet."

Just go see him, baka! The voice yelled again, loud enough to break the human's focus, sending him tumbling from the sky.

Focus still shattered, he soon enough hit the ground, groaning as he stared at the sky. "Insanity is painful." He mumbled to himself, sitting up somewhat hesitantly. "So, see the elder, huh?" He resumed his minor rant, deciding to walk again.

The only response to Gosai's self-contained conversation was the gurgling of his stomach. "Yeah, yeah. Food. I get it." He mumbled to himself, glancing around the field of the island. Naturally now that he wanted to find some vicious creature to feed himself with he could find nothing but grass.

"Freaking universe..." He groaned.

Because he chose to walk rather than fly, it took much longer to arrive at Guru's than the human had anticipated. What he found was a rather pleasant sight, Guru sitting along his throne... chair... thing. In front of the large Namekian was a table spread out in the middle of the room. A table covered in food, the scents of which sent Gosai's mouth watering.

It didn't take long before the human was attacking the food vigorously, hardly bothering to think on the appearance he must be giving to the elder Namek. Hunger being his primary concern, Gosai didn't even pause in his endeavor until he had gorged himself to his own satisfaction.

"I trust you've had enough?" Guru queried, shifting on his throne, as Gosai had decided to think of the structure.

"Yeah. Yeah. I hadn't eaten anything like that in way to long." He admitted, leaning back and allowing himself to simply digest for the time being. "Uhm... but I did come here for a reason..." He admitted, suddenly having the sense to seem rather sheepish again.

"I'm aware." Guru coughed. "I know what happened... as I said, little occurs on Namek that I am unaware of." He commented as Gosai nodded along. "You tried valiantly, my friend. You cannot blame yourself for what happened. That being was... something else. A monster, a relic from a more savage era."

Gosai scowled, shaking his head. "I should have been able to stop him! To save everyone!"

"If you keep up this line of thought, it will lead you only into a new darkness of your own." Guru told Gosai, shaking his head. "But, if you believe that this is something you must fix-"

"I do." He declared firmly, standing back up.

"If that is your desire," Guru sighed, opening his eyes enough to fix Gosai with his stare. "there is a way. A set of artifacts scattered across Namek. Brought together, they will have the power to grant you your fondest desires."

"A-are you... serious?" Gosai demanded, leaning forward.

"Yes." Guru coughed into his hand, settling back into his throne. "If you want to fix what you see as a mistake... you will require the power of the Dragonballs."

Guru's voice was a low rumble as he began to speak, telling a story that was part of the very fabric of Namekian culture and society. A story older even than he himself was...

"Centuries ago, Namek was a flourishing world filled with cities and technology. We were not the agricultural world of survivors we are now. Namek was the center of a small empire. Worlds were colonized and we explored the reaches of space. However, the center of this empire, the center of Namekian power in general were the Dragonballs. Objects of immense power, creatable only by those of the Dragon Clan." Guru informed Gosai, coughing a moment before he continued.

"Their power could allow anything. Immortality, the return of the death, transportation... as long as you could adequately state your will, the Dragon would perform the act. This power had to be protected, however. Each village is in possession of a single Dragonball to be protected. To be gathered only to use in emergency. This was both a blessing, as it prevented many of our people from using their power selfishly, but a curse in that we could not gather the dragonballs together in time to ask Porunga to set the planet's weather patterns to a less dangerous form. To stop the great storm that nearly wiped out our entire species."

The human paused, wondering vaguely just how many Namekians there were before the climate shift if that was the case but had little time to consider it before Guru began speaking again.

"The Dragon clan was gone... well most of them." He chuckled. "It took years of study, looking through those writings that survived the storm... but I was able to restore the Dragonballs themselves... and in time I spread them once more as my children spread across Namek."

"And... you're giving me permission to use them?" Gosai blinked, more interested in the potential of the wish granting orbs than in Guru's story. The elderly Namekian nodded, taking a breath to speak again.

"Yes. Your quest is a noble one, worthy of their power. But, you will have trouble finding the villages in question." He declared, nodding to a Namekian Gosai hadn't noticed. The other life form scurried out of the room, returning some time later with a small round object in his hands.

"This," Guru began speaking again. "is a Dragonball Radar. It was created by one of many species who came to Namek seeking th epower of the Dragonballs. With this... you should be able to locate them more quickly." The rotund Namekian chuckled.

Gosai was quick to grab the object and after stammering a few thank you's he was equally quick to run out of the hut and take off into the sky...

---

Meanwhile, on Earth Korin chuckled as he looked down into one of his vases of scrying water. "How clever of you, Guru. The boy needs something like this. A quest to get himself set right."

Korin smiled a bit, noting Guru's own chuckling form sitting on the throne back on Namek.

"Perhaps he will make his way out of this stronger than before."
