The sun was just starting to rise in the east. Tien was on the shore of the tiny island that served as the home to Master Roshi and everyone he was training. Tien was shadowboxing, getting ready for the training he would face that day. He wasn’t sure what it would be, but he’d be ready for it.

The door of Master Roshi’s house opened and the old turtle hermit stepped out. Tien turned to look at him.

“Tien, I just got a phone call from the Mayor of Green Ville. Apparently there are some people running around causing all types of havoc. They want me to go and put a stop to these guys, but well, I have a program coming on soon. Do you mind going and handling this for me?”

Tien nodded his head at Master Roshi and took off into the sky. He knew where Green Ville was. He would be there in an hour and then he could deal with whatever trouble was going down. This could be his training for the day.

Tien eventually touched down on the outskirts of Green Ville. He couldn’t see anyone in the streets, but he did hear the rumble of a car. It was coming down the street he was currently standing in the middle of. Tien turned to where the sound was coming from and saw a pick-up truck hurtling down the street towards him. Tien counted seven men in the truck. Two in the trucks cab, the other five hanging off the side. They got closer and closer, and finally stopped right in front of Tien. The five guys jumped down from the side of the truck.

“Well what do we have here?” one of the men said.

“I don’t know, but it doesn’t look like he has much money,” another man said.

“I guess we’ll find out. Hey, give us all your money,” the first man said. All the men were shorter than Tien, so he stared down at them, not moving a muscle, not saying a word. The first man who spoke to him stared back into Tien’s eyes, then turned around.

“Eh, you’re probably right. No money. Let’s leave him and get going,” the first man said. He walked back toward the truck and the other four followed. They all took their places hanging on the side of the truck. Tien still stood in the middle of the road, silent. Then the truck’s horn honked. Tien still didn’t move. Another honk, and the truck’s driver stuck his head out of the window and yelled at Tien to move it, they had places to be. Tien stood like a statue. The five guys from the side of the truck got down again and surrounded Tien.

“Well, we gave you a free pass, and you still make us come down here and…” the sentence was cut off by Tien punching the man in the face. The man went down fast, and was out once he hit the road. One of the other men ran at Tien and got a kick to the face. He was also out. The other three men all took a run at Tien and jumped on him. Tien was huddled over, the weight of the three men pushing him closer to the ground, but then with a surge in power Tien flung them all off and into the air. They landed hard on the ground in separate areas, but Tien wasn’t focused on that. After the men were flung into the air, the truck had turned around and taken off. Tien saw the truck driving down the street and took off after it. Tien caught up and grabbed the bumper of the truck and flipped it over. The two men inside were hurt, but not seriously. Tien walked to the driver side door and ducked down. He saw the driver hanging upside down by his seatbelt.

“I don’t know why you guys chose this place to terrorize, but it stops now. Understand?”

“But, we’re not the only ones here. There are other members of the Green Ville Gang out there. I’ll take you to them if you spare my life. Please, please spare my life,” the driver said.

“I’ll help you too,” came the voice of the passenger.

“I won’t kill you, but go back to whoever is leading this gang and tell him to make it stop. Call back all the members and tell them it’s time to stop. Until then, I will find these other groups and put a stop to them myself. You might wanna hurry so your friends in the gang don’t get hurt. Understand now?”

“Y..y..yes sir. Right away sir,” the driver said, unclipping his seatbelt. He fell down hard on his head but scrambled out the door as fast as he could. Then the driver took off down the street with the sounds of the passenger calling for his help coming from inside the truck.

“Are these the best apples you got?” the stranger said. Then he kicked over the fruit stand.

“If so, these are pathetic and your regular customers will thank me for getting rid of your crummy little stand,” he said, throwing the apple he had taken a bite out of at the woman. She was huddled around her young daughter, trying to protect her. He brushed his hands together as he walked away, laughing. He was wearing a loose green shirt, with blue pants. But that wasn’t what caught Tien’s eye. It was the sword he had on his back. It was a great big sword, one that only a very strong man could wield. This guy might not be as easy to stop as the others.

Tien started walking from where he had stood watching the scene unfold; making sure this guy was a gang member. He walked right up to the guy and stopped. The man with the sword didn’t notice Tien and walked into him, then looked up in Tien’s face.

“Outta the way, weirdo,” the swordsman said, trying to move around Tien. Tien stepped in his way.

“Didn’t ya hear me, outta my way,” he said.

“Not until you apologize to that woman and her daughter for kicking over their stand and being a jerk,” Tien said, staring down at the smaller man. The swordsman started laughing. It was a wild uncontrolled laugh and he did it right in Tien’s face.

“Yea right, like that’ll ever happen. You have a better chance of-” the back of Tien’s hand found the swordsman jaw. The swordsman hand came up to his cheek as he turned his head back and stared at Tien.

“You…you…hit me,” he said.

“I’ll do it as many times as it takes until you apologize to them,” Tien said. The swordsman took a few steps back.

“I am Eiji Kawashima, the greatest sword fighter this world has ever seen, and you expect me to apologize to these nothings. Just because you say so? And who do you think you are to come here and try to force me to do what you want?”

“I don’t think I know, that I’m the guy whose gonna make you apologize to those women,” Tien said.

“Oh, we’ll see about that,” Eiji said, pulling the sword from its sheath on his back. He pointed the tip at Tien’s face.

“So why don’t you come make me,” Eiji said, waving the sword back and forth.

Tien made a quick move to Eiji’s left side, trying to punch him in the side of the stomach. All he hit was the flat side of Eiji’s blade. Tien then brought his other fist up and threw it at Eiji’s face, but again all he hit was the flat side of the blade. Tien started throwing punch after punch, trying to catch a slip-up from Eiji, but every time, blade, blade, blade.

Tien jumped back. This guy was pretty good with a sword, and Tien had been right. He was going to be tougher than the others.

“Man, those girls are gonna be waiting a while for that apology, aren’t they?” Eiji said, smiling at Tien. Tien started to smile a little too, but didn’t say a word, gave no warning, just started to power up to his full potential. This sent Eiji flying backwards, end over end. His grip on his sword loosened and it went flying off to the side. Once Tien was done, he stood and looked at his downed opponent.

Eiji got up slowly, never taking his eyes off of Tien.

“So, it’s one of those battles,” Eiji said, and powered up himself. Tien saw the woman and her daughter scurry away at the sight of this. Tien was surprised. This guy was even stronger than he originally thought.

“So, any of the other gang members as strong as you,” Tien asked Eiji.

“Just our leader. He may be a little stronger, but I’m about to make my move. Then we’ll be done terrorizing little Podunk towns like this. I’ll organize us, make us an actual business enterprise that uses fear to get what it wants. Instead of just running around taking fruit and whatnot.”

“Lofty goals,” Tien said.

“You know, I may have a spot open for a number two. You interested? No one else is as strong as you that I’ve seen. I’m so impressed I’ll let you join right now. You won’t even have to apologize for getting in my way. Whatta ya say?”

“No thanks.”

“Fine then. Guess we have to do this the hard way.”

Eiji took off running at Tien, but Tien took off too. He saw that Eiji wasn’t coming straight at him, but instead heading for his sword. Once he bent down to reach it, Tien brought up his leg and kicked Eiji away.

“Why don’t we leave-” Tien was interrupted by a punch to his jaw. He stumbled backwards a few steps, enough so that Eiji had room to retrieve his sword. Eiji swung the swrod’s blade at Tien. Tien jumped back far enough that the sword only cut a hole in his shirt. Tien grabbed Eiji’s left arm by the wrist and brought his knee up, breaking it at the elbow. Eiji screamed out in pain. Tien then punched him in the stomach and Eiji went down.

“Guess you weren’t as strong as you thought,” Tien said. He released Eiji’s arm and he fell down on the sidewalk, grasping his broken arm. Tien couldn’t make him apologize to the fruit sellers, but it was good to know that he had taken care of one of the stronger members of the Green Ville Gang. He didn’t know how long it would take for word of his deed to get out, but it shouldn’t take too long. Then the town would be rid of this nightmare.

The streets had nearly been empty when Tien arrived in Green Ville. After two hours they were completely deserted. Tien had been walking around, finding members of the Green Ville Gang and single handedly making sure they wouldn’t bother the townspeople again.

Tien had been searching for more little groups of the gang for about fifteen minutes, but hadn’t seen any. Tien smiled. He had cleaned up this town and was sure that all the people here would be safe from now on. He started to hover in the air, getting ready to fly back to Master Roshi’s house and get some sleep. Just as he was about to set off, he heard a voice from behind him.

“Hey three-eyes,” said the voice. Tien stopped and turned to face where the voice had come from. He saw three men standing around, glaring up at him.

“Yea?” Tien said.

“Why don’t you come down here and face us three. We heard what you been doin’ ‘round town, and we’re sick of it. We wanna tear you apart.”

Tien floated down to just in front of the three men.

“Well then, give it your best shot.”

One of the men ran at Tien but was quickly dispatched with a backhand that sent him flying into the distance. He was much weaker than the men he had faced earlier in the day. The two remaining men rushed him at the same time. Tien dodged all the blows they threw at him. It wasn’t long until both of them were huffing and puffing, tired from just a little fight. Tien wasn’t even hitting back. Tien ducked down and swept the legs out from the man on his left, then stood back up and grabbed the man on his right by the neck. It was the same man who was talking to him earlier. Tien lifted the man up so that his feet weren’t touching the ground.

“You’re weak,” Tien said. The man nodded yes.

“It doesn’t make sense why the weakest I’ve faced so far would come after me last. I haven’t seen any other members of your group in a while, so I think you were sent here on purpose. Why?”

The man opened his mouth to speak, but before he could Tien stretched his leg out behind himself and caught the other man he had just been fighting in the face with his foot. The man crumpled to the floor. Tien did all this without releasing the other man from his grasp.

“I’ll ask again. Why were you sent?” Tien lowered the man so that he could talk without gasping for air. Tien was growing impatient and didn’t want a staggered response with interruptions.

“We’re being initiated. That’s why we’re so weak,” he said. “We were supposed to try and fight you first. Try and win. But if that didn’t work, we came with a message.”

“What’s the message?” Tien asked. The gang member pointed to the tallest building in town, the mayor’s office.

“Our leader and other members have gathered in that building. With hostages, including the mayor. If you don’t leave our town right now, they’re going to kill a hostage every ten minutes until you do.”

Tien turned and looked at the building, right in the center of town.

“Looks like I only have ten minutes to get there and save someone’s life.” Tien took off to the mayor’s office, hoping he would be in time.

Tien arrived at the mayor’s office in about five minutes. The brick building had two glass doors for an entrance. Tien had his back against the brick wall that was right next to the doors. In a few moments he would burst in there and start fighting with everyone, but he didn’t want to give the advantage of spotting him first. Tien sucked in a deep breath and let it out.

The glass from the doors burst as he made his way inside. The five guards standing on the first floor started firing their guns at him. He dodged bullets left and right making it seem like he was crab walking towards the guards. All five guards were standing together so once Tien reached them it was five quick chops to the neck and they were all unconscious.

Tien saw the stairs that lead to the next level. This was a five floor building and Tien could guess where they were holding the hostages. He ran up the stairs and burst onto the next floor, which held a lot of cubicles. Once again bullets fired at Tien, but they were using the partitions to hide themselves, so all Tien could do was duck down behind one of the partitions to avoid the bullets. Tien focused and picked up on the miniscule power levels around him so he could pin point. Tien’s eyes flew open though when he realized that somewhere above him was two power levels that were very close to his own. One must be the swordsman he met earlier, Eiji Kawashima, and the other must be the leader of the gang. Once Tien got to the top he would have a tough battle, but until then, it would be easy.

One of the gang members turned the corner of the partition Tien was using for cover. He had his gun drawn but Tien was fast enough that he grabbed it out of his hand.

“Where are all the hostages?” Tien said pointing the gun at the gang member. No matter how strong Tien was, people also thought a gun could deal with him. Now that he had the gun though, these guys would be really scared.

“He’s got my gun,” the gang member he took the gun from yelled. Tien heard the rumbling of foot steps. Then he saw all the gang members on the floor running down the stairs. Two floors down, three to go.

Tien walked around the floor and found people tied up. The hostages. They all took off for the stairs as well. Then Tien made his way to the third floor.

The center of the third floor had a big group of hostages, all tied up. There were ten guards surrounding them, keeping watch. They hadn’t noticed Tien yet, so he rushed the first guard he saw. He grabbed him by the leg and flung him into two guards who were standing close together, incapacitating them. The other seven converged on him. They came from all sides and were to afraid of shooting their friends to open fire, so as they got close, one by one Tien dealt punches, kicks, elbows, and knees until he stood above a whole pile of the villains. He untied one of the hostages.

“You start untying the rest. I need to move,” Tien said, before dashing up the stairs. It had been a long day and Tien was starting to feel tired. But there was still much to do, including the final fight.

The fourth floor held only two guards and three people. A man, a woman, and a child who looked to be about ten. Tien showed the guards the gun he had taken back on the second floor and they dropped their weapons. Tien untied the hostages, starting with the child and ending with the man.

“Oh thank you so much. I’m the mayor of this town,” said the man, “and these hooligans barged in here and tied us up. They even brought my family here, all tied up. It’s been a nightmare.”

“Well, it isn’t over yet, “Tien said, “Get outside and tell all the townspeople you see to go after these gang members, even if they’re fleeing. If you don’t show them you’ve had enough, they may come back.”

“But they’re so strong. How can we do anything to them?”

“The only strong members are on the floor above us. I’ll take care of them. Also, most of them left their guns behind. You’ll be fine.”

The mayor nodded his head and took off with his family. Tien watched them go down the stairs as he went up them.

This floor had a door marked Mayor and Tien thought that was the most likely place for the gang to be hiding out. Tien walked in and was shocked at what he saw.

A man was sitting at the back of the office, looking down, his long hair covering his face. But in front of him was the mother and daughter from the fruit stand. They were kneeling down with their hands tied behind their backs and gags in their mouths.

Next to the neck of the daughter was the sword of Eiji Kawashima.

“Well, it’s about time you showed up,” Eiji said. Then, Eiji smiled.

“Only a coward threatens the lives of innocent people. Even worse if it’s a child,” Tien said as he stared at Eiji.

“And your opinion means so much to me. How will I console myself?” Eiji stared down at his hostages. Tien didn’t like the look in his eye and stepped forward. Eiji’s sword moved closer to the girl’s neck.

“Don’t think I won’t do it. I’ll kill the only two witnesses to my defeat. So stay back.” Eiji’s face was unmoving. He meant it and Tien knew it.

“Ok, fine then,” Tien said taking a step back.

“How about you then?” Tien said to the man sitting in the back. “You’re his leader, shouldn’t you be able to talk some sense into him?”

The man in the back looked up and Tien saw his face. He was grinning.

“Sorry whoever you are. I heard you were in town and knew I had to fight you. I asked Eiji here to get you here. Anyway he could. He has, so now what he does with the bait is his decision. Eiji, continue.”

Eiji started to laugh and Tien felt his anger rise. They were monsters, pure and simple. Tien wouldn’t stand for it. His rise in anger caused a rise in power and it allowed him to move faster than he ever did before. He rushed over and grabbed Eiji’s sword arm by the wrist and pulled it away from the girl’s neck. Tien shot his knee up at the villains elbow and broke his arm. Eihi passed out and Tien turned to the leader.

The leader was about halfway to where Tien stood when Tien spotted him. Tien took off in a flash and delivered a punch to the stomach of the leader. Then he grabbed the back of his neck and threw him into the wall. The villain was knocked out also.

“Thank you sir,” the little girl said, running up to Tien and giving him a hug.

“Don’t thank me. Even if these guys are finished, there are still plenty more people just as bad.”

Tien walked away and set off for his current island home.
