"One, two, three, HA!!!", said every student in perfect unison as they released an Energy Blast out of each hand. "Good, good," said Master Roshi as he walked through the ranks of the potential "new and improved" Z Fighters. They were all near the beach, in lines of five across and four down. In crouching positions, they practiced firing Energy Blasts into special boulders designed to take an endless amount of Ki being shot at them. Master Roshi approved of what he saw. These twenty warriors were a start. He was impressed at their progress, but he knew better than to get his hopes up. He needed them to be stronger. The only way the Earth would remain safe was to prepare these warriors and hope they didn't fail. If they did, it would be his fault. It was up to him to bring out the best in them. He had done it before... "Those were the days," he thought to himself as he finished making his rounds of inspecting his students. One student stood out far more than any other. Master Roshi would never forget his name, Raizoku. He trained hard, as if war would break out at any moment. He went through every exercise with complete determination to become a strong warrior. Master Roshi knew he would be something special, a force to be reckoned with. Watching him train, was like watching one of his most skilled warriors of so long ago. He even had a tail. "As long as he stays on a righteous path", he thought. He was determined to keep Raizoku from being anything but righteous. He had to take the time to focus on the new Saiyan-Human warrior. He hoped that he lived long enough to see his training through. Over the years, Master Roshi had trained thousands of warriors. Yet, less than half of them are still alive. He wondered everyday if he should have done anything different. He knew he had done his best with them, but it wasn't enough. He wasn't going to let this generation of potential warrirors down. Never again. "Roshi, may I speak with you?", a woman's weak, raspy voice called out from behind the Master. Her voice had snapped him out of reflection of the past. He had not immediately recognized the voice though, being that it sounded like rusted metal scraping against a female smoker's esophagus. Sure enough, he could smell the tobacco coming from her clothes, breath and skin. He turned around and saw an old woman dressed in gray robes carrying a large basket. He noticed also, that she was bleeding from an unseen wound on her head. It was covered by her thin, dark gray hair. Blood could also be seen from her arms and dried, cracked lips. She had a terrified expression written all over her old, wrinkled face as she collapsed soon after getting Master Roshi's attention. The contents of the basket spilled across the ground. A scroll, a feathered pen, various fruits, a large jug of cold water, empty vials and a large book. "What is all this and what is her name?", he asked himself. It had been a very long time since he had seen her. He would have to figure it all out after he was certain she wasn't too injured. He picked her up and called for Oolong, "Get over here Oolong! Bring a Sensu Bean!". WC= 563 |

Oolong was in the house, cooking as usual. He was an important part of what Master Roshi was trying to accomplish on his island. Oolong hurried outside, carrying a Senzu Bean bag. He nearly tripped on himself, but regained his balance and gave the bag to his Master, and friend. "I just need one. Nevermind, thank you", Master Roshi said as he set the old woman back down and grabbed a Senzu Bean. Oolong bounced from side to side, nervous that he might have taken too long. The student warriors had Sensed the frail old woman's aura and stopped training when she fainted. Master Roshi wasn't going to let even an old friend fainting before their very eyes halt their training. He turned to them and said, "Back to your training! All of you!". They obeyed and continued to train. He parted her lips, and put the Senzu Bean in her mouth. He couldn't chew it for her, so he had to try and help her regain consciousness. "Get up, woman!", he said to her. He went to pinch her nose, but she felt the rejuvenating vegetable on her tongue and chewed. He didn't see a ship of any kind leaving shore, so it was safe to assume she knew the Bukujutsu technique. She was at one with her Ki. He didn't know many women of her age that knew how to fly. At least not many that lived to be her age and still do it. He especially knew of only a select few who dealt with vials, scrolls and big books. That alone, should have made the guessing game that he was playing much easier. He racked his brain for her name. He drew a blank. "Thank you, Roshi. I thought I would never get here", the mysterious old woman said to him. She got up and dusted herself off, making Oolong and Master Roshi cough. "Who are you?", Oolong ask her. "An old friend of Roshi's", she replied. She then turned and said, "Roshi, I thank you and your friend for healing me, but I have yet another problem that needs your attention", she continued. "An old friend? I really am getting old. I have no idea who this crazy old bat is', Master Roshi thought. He couldn't be rude though, she was in need of his help. "Please, come inside and we can talk. Oolong, prepare a meal. I'm sure our guest is hungry", Master Roshi said as he helped the old woman pick up her belongings. The trio headed to his house, where he hoped for a reasonable explanation for the old woman's current state. "Right away", Oolong replied as he dashed ahead into the house. When Master Roshi went inside the house with his guest, Oolong was bringing out bread, cheese and coconut juice. The old woman ate vigorously, and drank as if it was her first drink in days. "Thank you, I needed that", she said to Oolong. "If you need anything else, I'll be in the kitchen", he replied. "So, what brings you here?", Master Roshi said, getting straight to the point. He was on red alert for any trouble that might have followed this troubled woman. WC= 563 + 520 =1,083 |

"I need your help", she said. She tried to fight back tears swelling up in her gray, red rimmed eyes. "How do you know me? You say you're an old friend, but I have no recollection of who you are", Master Roshi said. Although she was troubled, he had to know who she was. "You forgetful old man, I'm Bessy! I was in one of your training classes many years ago. I didn't show much promise in combat, but I could Heal anyone. You taught me to channel my Ki, but not for your intended purpose. I am a 'doctor' of sorts. Can we please get back to the issue at hand?", she answered back. "Bessy...Bessy. Oh, yes! Bessy! You couldn't fight but you could heal. You were in one of my classes many years ago. Sorry, please continue", he said, finally. "I just told you that", Bessy replied. She was obviously frustrated at his lack of memory. "Anyhow, I was traveling to the Market District of the nearby town to buy my usual inscription supplies and some food. When I was done, there was an explosion next to the store I was in", she said. She sobbed, but he didn't know how to console her. "What did you do?", he asked. "I am in no condition to even try and fight anymore, so I did what I have always done. Hide. I jumped behind the store's counter, knocking down the clerk. I peered over the counter and saw what must have been seven or eight dirty looking thugs throwing molotov cocktails wildly at buildings and people. They burned! People burned! Children ran wild in every direction, screaming and crying while their parents tried to fight off the foul thugs!", Bessy said, obviously still in shock. "Thankfully, you escaped", Master Roshi said, trying his best to comfort her. "I don't care about me! The children!", she snapped. "Relax, relax. You should just go home, and I'll send some of my strongest students to check up on the town. I'll also have someone go to your house with a delivery of fresh food and water", he assured her. She was very dehydrated and weak. He had no idea how she found the strength to fly to his island. He knew that it was now up to him to send his best students to the troubled town and clean things up. He wouldn't send Raizoku, though. He didn't want to risk losing him right now. He wasn't done with his training. He would have him make the delivery of fresh food and water to the old woman in the desert. He only hoped the Senzu Bean gave her enough strength to make it back home. He walked her back outside, gathered her posessions and sent her on her way. He called his students forward, "Everyone, pay attention. An old friend of mine has witnessed the horrific destruction of a nearby town, and it's people. The ones responsible are just lowly thugs using molotov cocktails. There are only seve or eight of them, so I'll need only five of you. Who is willing to check out the town and defeat the thugs?" WC= 1,083 + 518 = 1,601 |

Every student had a hand raised. Master Roshi intentionally overlooked Raizoku, and randomly selected five warriors to send to town. They knew the Bukujutsu technique, and Raizoku didn't. That was reason enough not to send him. Next, Master Roshi needed someone to deliver food and water to Bessy in her desert home. "Who is up for the challeng of bringing Bessy some food and water?", he asked the remaining students. As expected, Raizoku raised his hand with the same enthusiasm as when asked to go to town. "Raizoku, are you up to it?", he asked. "Yes, Master Roshi. But, as anxious as I am to go, I don't know how to fly", Raizoku said. He seemed embarrased to admit it. "No worries. I have a Capsule Corp. jetpack for you. You break, you buy. Understand?", Master Roshi said as he went back into the house. "Yes, sir", was the reply that fell on deaf ears. Raizoku was anxious to go. He hoped the old woman would be okay even after he delivered her the food and water. He saw his teacher come out of his house carrying a large jetpack with the logo "C.C." on it. Grabbing it from his master, he strapped it on his back. It was heavy, but he was confident that he wouldn't crash and burn. "Here and here", Master Roshi said pointing to the handlebars, "is where you both press for a boost and steer. Just lean to your left and right, and you'll go in that direction. When you go up, just head north until you see desert land. You can't miss Bessy's house", Master Roshi instructed. "Wait, wait. I forgot the food and water you'll be bringing her", he contiued as he went back into the house and brought out an ice cold three foot by three foot briefcase. He handed it to Raizoku, and pressed the power button on one of the handlebars for Raizoku. He wasn't expecting it. The jolt from the jetpack rising so suddenly nearly made Raizoku drop the briefcase. He adjusted himself, and went North. It was strange to use the jetpack, because it was uncomfortable. He could only steer with one hand at any given moment while holding his delivery. He was determined to help the poor woman. He couldn't imagine being so old and helpless. He would rather die. The view of the ocean was incredible. He tried different maneuvers with the jetpack even though he was using only one hand. He dipped low, almost touching the water. He rose high into the clouds, racing birds through the clouds. He even did donuts in the clouds, changing their shape. He was impressed at his skill with the jetpack. Even more impressed with doing tricks and holding a big briefcase simultaneously. He was losing focus of his mission. He didn't realize that he had sailed halfway through the desert. He flew closer to the sandy terrain, scoping the area in hopes that he didn't pass his objective. Unfortunately, he had to turn around. As he made for a quick turn, he collided with a vulture that hit him in the head. He lost consciousness and went into a tailspin straight into the ground... WC= 1,601 + 530 = 2,131 |

"Wake up, you dunce!", said Bessy as she slapped Raizoku upside his head. He woke up, startled by the old woman's idea of a wake up call. "Where am I?", he asked. He managed to get to his feet, rubbing his eyes and head. "Look around, you are in my house. I saw you fooling around in the sky, and I had a feeling you would fall. I followed you and guess what? You fell. Hard", Bessy told him. "Thanks for bringing me here", he told her while looking around. He was in a wooden hut, with two large windows on either side of the front door. He laid next to a small round table with potions, books, and vials. Remembering why he was sent to her, he searched frantically around Bessy's hut for her intended package. "Have you seen a---", he began. He cut himself off when he saw that Bessy was using the briefcase as a chair. "Yes, and thank you. Sort of", she said. Raizoku looked at his feet and blushed in response. "Ah, it's okay. I would have enjoyed myself on a jetpack too if I were you", she assured him. "I'm sorry, ma'am. I can't fly so I had to use it. I got carried away and nearly lost your things", he told her. He was ashamed and embarrassed that he would put himself in such a position. "Enough, enough. All is well now. I have my food and water. You can return to Roshi once I fix your jetpack", she told Raizoku. "I broke it? Master Roshi will kill me when he finds out", he said while holding his head. "He doesn't have to know. I'll fix it. Just wait a few minutes, and it will be done", Bessy said. She left him, and went outside. Raizoku didn't see the jetpack. He looked out the window and saw Bessy pull it out of a small bag. "A small bag? How can that huge jetpack fit in a small bag?", he wondered. Bessy must have read his mind, because she replied from outside, "I have enchanted this here bag to carry anything I need it to. Weight or size makes no difference", she said while bent over the jetpack. She had various tools at her disposal. She was switching things around, banging pieces together, and screwing this in. When she turned around, she showed him the jetpack. He walked outside and was in complete shock. "It looks as if it's never been used before! Thank you. You might have just kept me in good terms with Master Roshi", Raizoku said happily. "I am the one that should be thanking you. Without the food and water you have brought me, I would have to go back to the town I was happy to escape. I only hope those thugs were taken care of", she said. She had a tear in her eye at the thought of the destruction she witnessed. "I'm sure the other students have done their best. I'm sorry that you had to suffer that experience. Is there anything I could do for you before I go?", he asked. "No, you have done more than enough. Would you thank Roshi for me? I don't like to interrupt him training new students. Tell him I owe him my life", she said. She passed Raizoku the jetpack, and walked with him. "Be safe, Raizoku. No fooling around", she said before a quick smile. "I know that now", he responded. Raizoku powered up the jetpack, and flew off to return to Master Roshi with his first quest complete.
