It had been three days since his egg had hatched deep within a cold, damp, and humid Namekian cave. Three days of darkness, not knowing where he had come from or why he was here. Not knowing what to do, he sat there and slowly fell into a deep meditative state. “Piccolo,” he thought, “That must be my name,” Although the memories of his past life were vague at best, Piccolo managed to at least recall his name through his three days of solitude in the shadows of the Namekian cave. “Where am I,” he thought, “I need to get out of here.” Piccolo searched for a way out of the labyrinth of a cave he was in for what seemed like hours, then out of frustration he yelled, “RAGH!” Thud! The sound of his fist pounded against the cave’s wall. “Just when the hell will this cave end!?” he yelled. Just as quickly as Piccolo had yelled out, another yell followed which shook the cave walls so hard that even the bats flew away from the sound, “ROAR!” “Shit, what now!?” Piccolo nervously thought as a bear-like creature about 8 feet tall quickly closed in on Piccolo’s location. The cave was dark, but not so dark that he couldn’t see the creature dashing straight for him. SLASH! The creature swung down at Piccolo with his claws and slashed into Piccolo’s left arm that instinctively went up to block the attack, though now bleeding, to Piccolo’s surprise he was able to completely stop that creature’s claw from reaching him. “What the hell?” Piccolo thought “I stopped it?” The creature began to swing with his other arm, but this time Piccolo noticed in time. “Might as well try” he thought, and with lightening speed he swung his right arm into the beast’s belly causing it to squeal and be thrown back a few feet. “Ree!” The beast, not wanting another serving of Piccolo’s fists, quickly turned around and began to run away. As the creature turned Piccolo noticed a leaf from a tree branch fall off it’s’ fur. “It must’ve come from outside the cave,” he thought,”I better follow it.” Sure enough Piccolo was able to follow the beast right outside, “Finally some fresh air!” Piccolo inhaled deep and let the fresh air saturate his lungs, “AH! That’s better!” As he said this he looked down at his left arm, “It stopped bleeding?” he thought,”There’s not even a scratch on it” he thought a little surprised. As Piccolo walked around the planet Namek he began to notice a sort of “feeling,” like he could feel energy sources around the planet. “Interesting,” Piccolo thought, “I’ll go check out the closest one” he said. Piccolo walked for a good hour or so before he ran into a small Namekian village composed of maybe 50 villagers or so. Piccolo noticed his stomach began to growl loud enough to embarrass a grown man, “Sheesh, I guess I’m hungry, better find some food” he said as he walked up to a fish stand. “Excuse me sir, I’d like a fish please” Piccolo said politely. “Coming right up!” the Namekian clerk exclaimed, “that’ll be 10 zeni” and he put his hand out to receive the money. “10 what?” Piccolo asked a little confused as he ate his fish faster than Garfield on lasagna “Quit kidding around son, the fish you just inhaled cost 10 zeni now pay up! I’m not in the mood for jokes!” The clerk clearly becoming impatient. “I’m sorry sir but I don’t have any zeni, I thought you were giving these away.” “Giving!? Are you crazy!? A Namekian’s got to earn a living some how! Now are you gonna pay or not!?” The clerk getting more and more frustrated. “I told you already sir I don’t have any zeni, is there any other way I can pay you?” The clerk, now seeing Piccolo’s sincerity began to calm down as he thought of a way to make him pay. “Well, if you really can’t pay there is something you can do for me,” the clerk said. “What is it,” Piccolo asked. “My son, Takana is just down the road maybe a mile or so training and he’s probably getting hungry. Well I told him I’d bring him lunch but today’s been busier than expected, if you can deliver this lunch to him that’ll help pay your debt off,” the clerk said with an almost sinister smile on his face. “Help pay,” Piccolo asked confused “Well of course” The clerk exclaimed, “You ate 10 zeni worth of fish! You can’t expect to pay that just by making a ten minute delivery down the road can you? Anyway come back here when you’re done and I’ll have some more work for you.” The clerk now clearly pleased with his plan couldn’t help but grin. “Tsh, all this for zeni,” Piccolo thought a little frustrated. “Hurry now, time is money after all!” The clerk said with his grin now growing large enough to see from Namek’s orbit. “Who knows, if you do a good job I could use a young man to run errands for me! Hahaha!” Piccolo had clearly been played. Piccolo walked down the road for about 15 minutes when he reached what looked like a training ground. As Piccolo got closer he could see a Namekian training, “that must be him” Piccolo thought. Although he knew he had to deliver Takana’s lunch, Piccolo couldn’t help but be curious and decided to hide in a nearby bush to watch the Namekian train for awhile. Piccolo watched almost mystified as Takana put both his hands together while standing about 100 meters away from a large boulder. Takana began to focus energy into his palms as they began to glow a gold vibrant color. The Namekian’s veins began to bulge as he yelled, “Mansenko ha!” as he said this a lightening fast beam of energy propelled its’ way toward the boulder. Boom! The explosion sent a shockwave that sent all the nearby animals running. The boulder now rained down millions of fragments. With beads of sweat rolling down the Namekian’s face, he took a seat on the floor to rest. “How long do you plan on watching me?” Takana said clearly speaking to Piccolo. A little surprised Piccolo said, “How did you know I was here, I thought I was being quiet.” “Quiet? Noise had nothing to do with it, try the fact that your energy level is well above the average Namekian citizen.” Takana said a little sarcastically. “Energy level huh? That must be what I felt that led me here,” Piccolo thought. “So do you have a reason for being here or do you just enjoy spying on people?” “Oh, right, I’m sorry. My name is Piccolo, your dad sent me to bring you some lunch since he said he was too busy.” “Really, well your timing couldn’t be better, I’m starving! Why’d he have you send it though, I’ve never even see you around before.” “Heh, kind of a long story but I basically owed him a favor.” “I see,” Takana said with a smile on his face, after all he knew his father very well, “Well I’m Takana, whatever reason my father sent you here, I’m sorry. He’s always playing clever tricks, thanks for the lunch though.” “No problem, Hey Takana, what was that attack just now?” “What, the Mansenko? You mean someone with your energy level doesn’t know what that is?” Takana said getting more sarcastic by the minute. “How would I know a thing like that!? I just hatched less than four days ago!” Piccolo snapped. "Don’t joke so much just cause your mad, there’s no way you’d have that much energy after hatching four days ago Piccolo.” “I’m not 100 percent sure what you mean by energy level but what I remember is my former self launched an egg into a cave about 7 miles south of here, and that’s where I hatched.” Takana seeing Piccolo’s facial expression could tell he was being serious, after all, he had no reason to lie, and therefore Takana took more interest into Piccolo. “Ok Piccolo, well that Mansenko is an advanced energy attack I learned from Guru.” “What’s a Guru?” Piccolo asked. Takana falling to the ground, “What!? You’re a Namekian and you don’t know who Guru is? Ok tell you what, how about you meet me here tomorrow and we’ll do some training, if I see you’re as strong as I sense I’ll take you to see the Guru. If you really hatched a few days ago he might be able to figure out what happened to you, at the very least teach you some basic ki control.” “That sounds good, right now I have to go meet your dad again, he said he’s got more work I need to do for him, but I think tomorrow will be fine.” “Well then it’s settled, we’ll spar tomorrow!” Takana said while laughing a little about what his father was putting Piccolo through. “See you tomorrow Takana, thanks for your help.” (word count so far - 1569) |

Piccolo arrived back at the fish stand shortly after. “Hey old man, your son got his lunch, what else do you need me to do?” “Old man? Heh, well I guess that’s fair enough since I called you son. I got about 4 or 5 crates full of fish in the back there bring them up here and your done, just take your time, they’re pretty heavy,” the clerk said with the same smile on his face. “This should be a synch,” Piccolo thought as he approached the crates. Piccolo quickly grabbed 2 crates, one with each hand and lifted them off the ground. The clerks’ smile quickly turned into a jaw dropping expression as he watched in awe. “That’s 2, just 3 more,” Piccolo said as he now darted towards the other 3, now having a little fun after seeing the clerk’s expression. Piccolo ran up to the first crate and preformed an aerial over it while grabbing it with both hands and tossing it in the direction of the fish stand. He quickly back flipped to the other 2 and simply picked them up and walked over and neatly set them by the stand. “All done,” Piccolo said with the grin now on his face, “Guess I’ve paid for my fish!” The clerk still jaw dropped quickly regained his composure, “Well I um…I guess I can’t argue with you there, that would’ve taken me awhile to do on my own, usually only my son does it that quick.” “Well I guess I’ll be seeing you old man” Piccolo said still smiling. The clerk suddenly began to smile as well as he thought,”Um Piccolo was it?” he asked. “Yes?” Piccolo responded a little irritated. “Well Piccolo, you can call me Mr. Sanjo. Anyway I was just wondering, how you will pay for your food tomorrow?” regaining the same grin he wore on his face earlier in the day. Piccolo nearly tripped when he head that, “Heh, I guess I really didn’t think about that, why?” “Well you seem pretty strong, especially after that display. I could use a strong Namekian like you to run errands for me, how about it? I’ll pay you 350 zeni a week, that’s a lot of fish” Still smiling, clearly intent with his proposal. “Damn, I guess it can’t be helped. At least I’ll make money this time” Piccolo thought. “I guess so Mr. Sanjo, when do you want me back?” Piccolo asked. “Come back tomorrow, I’ll only need you for a little bit in the morning” Mr. Sanjo said. “Work then training, looks like I’ll have my hands full tomorrow,” Piccolo said with a smile as he found a nice tree to sleep under for the night. As the sun rose the next morning Piccolo awoke to meet the new challenges that the day would bring. He began walking over to Mr. Sanjo’s fish stand. “Good morning Mr. Sanjo,” Piccolo greeted as he approach the stand. “Good morning Piccolo, you’re even earlier than I expected! Listen Piccolo, Takana told me that he was going to train you today and well I had no idea you were that strong!” Mr. Sanjo said enthusiastically. “What do you mean, that strong?” Piccolo asked curiously. “Well it’s one thing to carry some heavy crates around, but for my son, the guardian of this village, to think you’re strong enough for him to train you, well that’s incredible!” Mr. Sanjo exclaimed excitedly. “Guardian?” Piccolo asked. “Why yes, most Namekian villages have at least one guardian trained under the Guru, but it really depends, Larger villages will get more guardians of course. Anyway my point is that since he offered to train you I don’t want to waste my son’s time, just bring 2 more crates to the front and go meet with him.” Mr. Sanjo said insistently. Piccolo did as he was told since he was eager to spar with Takana anyway, especially now that he knew hew was a guardian. As soon as he was done he said good bye to Mr. Sanjo and ran to meet Takana. Piccolo arrived to see Takana in a meditative stance with his eyes closed. “Why did you run here, you should’ve conserved your energy for our spar,” Takana said smiling. “It’s ok, a run like that is nothing,” Piccolo said smiling right back. “Oh trust me Piccolo, your going to wish you had every ounce of energy you can muster, I’m going all out on you!” Takana’s facial expression quickly changing from smiling to a face of a warrior. Piccolo not having fought much in this life took up a rather sloppy on guard position, but he took one nonetheless. “I’m ready when you are!” Piccolo shouted as Takana’s image vanished before his eyes. “Are you Piccolo?” Takana said casually as he reappeared behind Piccolo with a swooping crescent kick heading straight for Piccolo’s head. Piccolo was clearly taken by surprise; he never expected that kind of speed. Piccolo swiftly brought his arm up just in time to cover his face, “BAM!” a mini shockwave exploded from where Takana’s leg and Piccolo’s arm met. Though Piccolo did block it, the pressure from the kick sent him flying into some trees 50 meters away. “Shit! That was unexpected!” Piccolo thought as he struggled to regain his footing, flying through mid air he managed a back flip landed vertically with both feet on the trunk of a tree and push off right back at Takana. “Oh? Do you think a head on attack after seeing my speed is the smartest thing?” Takana taunted. Piccolo ignoring his taunt continued rushing straight toward him, when Takana suddenly vanish again. “Shit I can’t slow down.” Piccolo thought as his fist went through the tree in front of him. Takana now appearing in front of Piccolo was already coming down with both hands clasped together. Piccolo knew he wouldn’t have time to block this one, so he jumped towards the attack with his back first to stop it from reaching full speed as it hit his body. Thud! Piccolo was tossed right back down tasting the earth beneath him. “Ugh…” Piccolo muttered as he got up from the ground. “Is that all you got, I thought you were stronger than this,” Takana taunted, now about 20 meters in front of Piccolo. Piccolo didn’t waste energy talking back, instead he began focus energy into his arms and they began to bulge slightly, “HHHHUUUUUAAAAHHHHHH!” He yelled as his arms gradually grew by an inch in diameter. “There’s no point in making your attack strong if you can’t hit me Piccolo,” Takana continued to taunt. Piccolo smiled, “Your right about that Takana!” Takana looking a little confused watched as Piccolo now swung with full force into the ground, BAM! This caused the ground to crumble and crack in Takana’s direction, but Takana didn’t quite realize what Piccolo was attempting and just stood where he was as the ground cracked toward him. Suddenly Takana found both his feet caught in the crumbling ground. “Crap!” He thought as he grabbed his leg with both arms to try and pull it out of the ground, but it was too late Piccolo was already in front of him ready to release a barrage of physical attacks. “How’s this Takana, HA!” Piccolo unleashed a ferocious barrage of punches and kicks and since Takana was taken off guard he took most of the hits. Piccolo landed a solid 8 punches in when Takana finally grabbed Piccolo’s fist. “Ugh,…that was pretty good Piccolo but now it’s my turn,” Takana said smiling. Piccolo was surprised by the strength left in Takana’s grip, he couldn't break free. “Oh crap!” Piccolo said. As Takana grabbed Piccolo by the throat with his free arm and extended it at lightening speeds which sent Piccolo back first into the ground and trees around him. Takana wasn’t quite finished though; still holding on to Piccolo’s throat he launched him maybe 300 feet up, only to bring him crashing down into the ground, BOOM! Takana, now satisfied let go of Piccolo, seeing the crater that formed from his impact with the ground. “Damn Piccolo, for just being hatched a few days ago you really gave me a workout!” Takana said, sincerely this time. Piccolo barely breathing struggled to get up but just fell back down, he laid there panting. Takana seeing how badly he was injured approached him and took a seat next to him on the floor. “You did really well Piccolo, you pack a punch and you can take a pretty decent beating too!” Takana Taunted, “But seriously, eat this it’s a senzu bean the Guru gave me, it will heal you almost instantly,” Takana said as he put the bean in Piccolo’s mouth. After eating the bean Piccolo immediately began to feel revitalized, “that’s amazing, I feel like new! I could probably spar again if you don’t kill me this time!” Piccolo said clearly a little frustrated his friend went so rough on him. “Hey take it easy Piccolo, the good new is I’ve decided to take you to meet the Guru, after seeing how well you did against me you’ll make a great student for him!” Takana exclaimed, “Get ready because we’re leaving now.” “Really, thanks Takana.” Piccolo pleased with the news. It took Piccolo and Takana maybe 2 hours to get to where Guru’s place was, but they arrive at the footsteps where 2 Namekians stood guard. “Takana, long time no see! Who’s your friend?” one guard exclaimed. “Hey Saito, this is Piccolo. I brought him here to see if Guru will train him.” Takana said. “Well then come on in, any friend of yours is welcome here, good luck Piccolo. It’s an honor to even be considered for training under Guru you know.” Saito said. “Thank you, I’ll bear that in mind,” Piccolo replied respectfully. They both entered and right before Piccolo’s eyes was a large burly Namekian sitting in an even larger chair. “This is the Guru!?” Piccolo thought, “I was expecting someone-“ “Younger, stronger looking perhaps?” The Guru said Interrupting Piccolo’s thoughts. Piccolo, startled, quickly got on one knee, “My apologies Guru, I didn’t mean any-“ “Relax young one, you’ll soon learn the experience comes with age, at any rate come here and let me examine you,” The Guru said patiently. Piccolo a little confused looked toward Takana as he shrugged him to go forward, Piccolo hesitantly walked in front of the Guru. “This might sting a little,” The Guru said as he placed one hand on top of Piccolo’s head. “RRAAAAAGGGHHHH!!!!” Piccolo wailed as some memories rushed into his head, he felt a swell of energy surround him as he began to remember how he was a warrior in his past life. Piccolo overwhelmed by the energy and memories collapsed to the ground. “Ugh…” was all that he could manage to say. “Piccolo, by reading your past I am able to tell what kind of person you are. I have decided you are someone worth training, we’ll start tomorrow.” The Guru said. Piccolo would now be working as an errand boy for Mr. Sanjo, and be receiving training from the Guru himself, things were starting to look extremely busy for our Namekian. ~The end...for now.
