Sacred Rites

The elder of one of the villages has passed on. In his will, he named the successor and location of the Dragonball he was enlisted to protect. There is a huge ceremony going on the village to name who will be the new protector of the ball. Because this ceremony obviously will not name you, once he receives it, you will have to simply snatch it from him.

Gosai had been getting very good at navigating about on Namek. This could be for any number of reasons, of course. Growing more and more accustomed to Namek's geography. Having slowly begun to memorize the locations of villages. A dragon ball radar and the ability to sense ki. Any of them could have contributed to his new confidence in traveling.

Admittedly, at the moment he had the advantage of being on a single island was also a big help. As it was though, he was walking through the grasses of the island seeking out the latest village he was to visit. The blip upon the radar showed bright as he saw the domed white huts tell-tale of a Namekian village in the distance.

"Making great time." He declared to himself, practically running towards the village. However, the sight that greeted the rambunctious warrior was much more solemn than he'd expected.

The village itself appeared silent, only a handful of Namekians were sitting outside of their huts. Mostly older looking members of the species were standing about, like an honor guard for their elder companions. Finally, Gosai sidled up next to one of the younger Namekians, a small one who didn't seem much older than Bassoo.

"What's going on?" He queried, looking around two of the elders whispering amongst themselves.

"Elder Laput has died." The young Namekian whispered, looking up at Gosai. "We are seeking his successor."

Gosai's brow furrowed at that. It was callous, he knew it, but the only thing he could think of was what complications this would provide in taking the village's dragon ball.

Taking? He thought to himself. That doesn't sound good at all. The boy admitted.

"Elder Laput's successor has been decided!" One of the aged Namekians finally shouted, above the din of whispered conversations. Gosai and the younger member of the species.

Gosai's attention was on the assortment of Namekians, wondering just what he was about to get into. Still, the human fighter remained silent. All attention was at the center where a middle aged Namekian was standing in the center of a circle of other similarly aged Namekians. From what the human could guess this was going to be the individual taking on the role of the elder. And that's when one of the congregation began speaking.

"As you know, Elder Laput died two weeks ago, forcing us to consider his replacement. At Laput's own insistence in his will we have made the obvious choice. His protege, Nais. All responsibilities belonging to the village elder shall fall onto him. Representing our people to Lord Guru, preparing the defenders and, most importantly for us... guarding the Dragon Ball."

At this, Gosai's ears perked up. Are they going to hand it to him right here? he thought hopefully, images of a daring escape after grabbing the dragon ball and fleeing from the angered Namekians. Crude, but possible to happen. He had to believe he was fast enough to avoid capture if he did that. The delusion was broken however as the elders continued speaking.

"Among the writings and lessons left behind by Elder Laput is a map detailing the hidden location of our dragon ball."

At that pronouncement Gosai's stomach sank. Finding and stealing a map would be much harder than just stealing a dragon ball and running. But then he grinned in anticipation as the announcement was continued.

"And so, it is Nais' duty to travel to the hidden location of the dragon ball, assure himself that it is present, and offer his respects to an artifact of such power." The elders continued, Gosai very nearly gave himself away by cheering in the crowd. Fortunately he had enough presence of mind to avoid that much at least.

Okay, so I just follow him. Avoid detection like an awesome ninja, swipe the dragon ball and run like hell. Simple. ...With how many of my plans are 'simple' I'm starting to wonder what it says about my intelligence. He sighed mentally.

The plan worked well for the most part. The newly elected Elder of... whatever village Gosai had wandered into was traversing the edges of the island with Gosai remaining a careful distance behind him having already glued a large pile of grass over most of his clothing in an attempt to remain concealed. So far it seemed to be working. Who would have thought?

As the travel wound on however, Gosai was beginning to wonder if he had been discovered. It seemed that Gosai and his unaware guide were walking the outline of the island over and over. In fact, he had counted the same rock three times. Or am I just noticing that all rocks look the same? He thought to himself. Either way, he was growing bored of the situation he found himself in. At least until he noticed the Namekian gazing out into the ocean before beginning to walk forward. A small cushion of ki, Gosai presumed, was what kept him from sloshing through the water. Rather, he was walking atop of it.

"Well, can't go walking on water behind the guy." Gosai admitted before dashing for the shoreline. The effort to dive in was minimal. The effort to stay under, and to follow the Namekian by ki sense rather than trying to open his eyes in the uncertain solution that made up Namek's oceans? More substantial.

Here Dragon Ball, dragon ball, dragon ball. He mentally cat called. Okay... Namekian elder is on the move.

One might have thought talking to himself under the water was a bad idea, distracting him from his target's ki signature. They'd be wrong about that much. And in fact, the little self-contained conversation was exactly what he needed to keep his mind off the slow exhaustion of the oxygen in his lungs.

The young man swam for what felt like an hour, but was probably just a few minutes exacerbated by the burning of his lungs after the first couple of minutes. The fact that he lost his air supply immediately after swimming skull first into a rock formation certainly didn't help. Unable to breath he was forced to surface, Namekian or no.

Sweet oxygen! He cried out mentally as he emerged, taking the first deep breath of new air. Realizing immediately after that, that he may have been seen the human boy looked around for the aged green man. He was, mercifully, alone. "Okay. I guess it's time to start phase two." He mumbled, floating silently in the waters before swimming towards the nearest outcropping of rock. "There's gotta be a cave in here someplace, right?" He mumbled to himself, running his hands along the jagged stone until one nearly passed through a small hole.

"...Well, isn't that special." He mumbled. "Fine. We'll do it the easy way." He commented idly, placing his hand on the opening of the cavern before taking in another deep breath and sinking low under the water. Having to keep his eyes shut was a bit of a bother, but eventually he was able to find the wider parts of the entry and slip into it. If there isn't a part of this thing where I can breath, this'll be a really terrible way to die. He considered, darting forward as quickly as he could. Once again, his senses focused on the Namekian's power.
