Yes, Android Eighteen is one of the stars in this, and yes, she is a playable character. But this is from a different planet, a different time period, and a different Android Eighteen. If there's still a problem, I can change the name, but I don't see the point. There's no "connection" between him and the Eighteen in the current time era of ADBZ.

Fonos heard the communications message just a few hours ago. It seemed that Tehran’he had sent her ship and all its supplies over to the planet of Arlia, and she herself was headed to the planet of bug people. He lay down on the couch of the small apartment he’d rented out. He’d recently landed on the Planet Earth, and was pleasantly surprised to see several people of power that was unbelievably strong for Earthlings.

He would be able to dispatch them with a bit of ease, but it was good to know that even a weak planet like Earth managed to produce powerful fighters. One of these days, he’d have to thank the Turtle Hermit for that. But as for the present moment, he decided to rest up a bit and perhaps do a bit of practice sparring before seeking out these power levels.

And at the moment, he’d had a bit of downtime to think about the messages he’d received. And he suddenly remembered one of his older lives, when he was on Arlia. The alien sighed a bit, letting his wings loosen outward, and he rubbed his shoulders tenderly, thinking of the memories. A slight redness appeared on his cheeks as he remembered the initial meeting with a certain female bio android and the erotic yet totally irresponsible response of their passion. It was almost like the classical storybook from the history of Earth, The Scarlet Letter.

“Denied.”

“What? Again?” Fonos attempted to rush the man in front of him, fists outstretched, but was quickly stopped by the mass of people nearby who simply wanted to be processed and moved on. A huge scene would only slow the already infinitely long process of dying.

“I’ve told you this before,” Yamma replied, voice betraying his annoyance. “You still have another dozen lives to go before you’re even slated for consideration.” The demon stared up at the ancient King with utter distaste.

“Fine. I understand.” With that, he turned stiffly around and walked away. Without turning around, he asked, “The usual exit?”

“Indeed.” Fuming to himself, the dark-winged alien stepped over to a special chute designed for him to take upon dying. Each time he went down it, he was brought back to the dimension of the living, but on a different world each and every time. Leaping inside, he felt with the same uncomfortable normality as the walls pressed up against his wings and as the speed and wind friction quickly accelerated to an unbelievable speed.

Closing his eyes, the demon braced for the violent impact that always signaled the end of the trip. Slamming into hard packed ground with a sickening thud, Fonos groaned and rolled onto his back, looking for a moment at the portal, watching it quickly fade from view, separating his link to Grand Kai once more. He idly wondered if he could jump back in at the last second, but dismissed the thought. He still wouldn’t get past the Check-In Desk.

Slowly getting to a standing position, the demon rubbed his back irritably while looking around. He appeared to be in an endless expanse of desert, with no visible end in sight. Kicking the reddish dirt beneath his feet, he decided he was either on a remote location of Vegeta, or just about anywhere on Arlia.

Eighteen sat back in her chair, eyes closed as she tried to come to terms with the new information she had garnered about her “creation”. Her feet were placed on the desk in front of her, and her hand ran slowly through her luscious blonde hair.

”Now what?” Eighteen asked herself, casually tapping on her metal head. Suddenly she froze, and her head slowly turned to the side as she heard movement within the warehouse. Slowly, she lifted her legs from the desk, planting them silently on the floor.

She rose from her seat, and slowly made her way over to the noise. She walked slowly and softly, her audio sensors perked for any kind of disturbance. She walked for several seconds, but nothing was picked up on her sensors.

“Must have been a cat or something... I hate cats...” Eighteen said to herself, before turning and starting to walk back to her almost comfortable chair.

Something, however, caught her eye, and she turned her full attention to it. A terminal stood in the middle of the floor, facing several darkened tanks, hiding their inhabitants. Instantly curious, Eighteen walked over and rested her hands on the panel, her eyes searching through the many buttons.

Seeing one that looked suspiciously like an activation button, Eighteen placed one of her lean fingers upon it, and a shock ran through her body.

Scanning... Match allocated. Welcome, Android number Eighteen. Order 37 will be invigorated in 5...

Eighteen pulled her hand back quickly, for the first time fearful for what her actions might cause. In a panic, she began to mash angrily at the terminal before her, lighting up several of the tanks. Looking up, she let out a loud gasp.

In the tanks were androids, all de-activated from the looks of things. Several of them were half-built, but a small few looked complete and ready to destroy. Eighteen took a step back, suddenly wary of pressing any more buttons in case it awoke the androids.

2... 1... Order 37 activated. Awakening Androids. Prepare to execute order 12.

Android 18 hit her face with her palm as the tanks began to open, and she looked fearfully up as the androids began to awaken.

“Ok, you can all fuck off right now,” Eighteen said, causing her aura to burst up around her. One of the androids, seemingly complete, stepped forward.

“I am Android 12. Prepare to die,” Android 12 said, and the other androids stepped up behind him. Collectively they rushed towards Eighteen, who entered a defensive stance immediately.

She threw her arms up, blocking the attacks of the androids, but unable to launch her own attack due to the speed and multitude of attacks rushing towards her.

“You’re all pricks!” She yelled out, seizing a chance and sweeping the legs out from one of the androids. One of her opponents also took advantage of the situation, delivering a crunching blow to the side of her head, causing sparks to fly from the contact. She recoiled slightly, before bringing up her defense again, only just managing to not be destroyed by the enemies arrayed before her.

Letting his wings unfold, he took one great leap and flapped his appendages, before he shot into the sky like a majestic bird of prey, watching the land in ever widening circles to look for some bit of civilization. Finally, he found something that looked like an apartment building. Swopping down towards it, Fonos built up his speed and folded his wings for better aerodynamics. At the last second before crashing into the roof, he pulled them back out again, ignoring the intense pressure and pain that slammed his wings, and rode it out, floating back to the roof safely.

From there, he leaped down to the ground and barrel rolled to avoid breaking his legs. Getting to his feet, the demon soon ascertained that the ‘apartment’ in question was in fact a storage location – a warehouse of some kind. Walking into the entrance, he heard an aggressive sounding feminine voice shrilly cut into the silence: “You’re all pricks!”

The sound of an intense and brutal fight began to take place and Fonos rushed in, curious to see what was going on. When he did, he momentarily froze, uncomprehending. A human woman stood fighting several different androids simultaneously, all in different stages of completion and modernity. She seemed to be holding her own fairly well, but at the same time, she wasn’t really forcing them back either.

It appeared to be a stalemate.

Fonos considered jumping in – the woman clearly needed help, and he’d always had a soft spot for helping the underdog survive; it was partially because of that that he’d been banished in the first place. However, before he came to a definite answer, one of the androids spotted him and made the decision for him by running forward, attempting to bulldoze him. Ducking down, he jumped forward, arms outstretched.

Tackling the robot to the ground with a slam that echoed around the room, Fonos let his mind quickly slip into instinctive survival mode, taking a second merely to turn to his temporary partner and gave a casual, “Hey, you know what the hell’s going on?”

Keeping his ears partially focused on her to await a hopefully helpful answer, he began punching the robot underneath him, trying to subdue him before he was overwhelmed by the three others that were now storming across to him.

- - - Point of View of Eighteen - - -

Eighteen crossed her arms across her chest, fending off a particularly strong blow from Android Twelve, just as she heard a voice behind her. She was too engrossed in the fight, however, to pay it much attention. Sweeping the floor with her leg, she tripped one of the androids, before narrowly avoiding a punch from another. She spun on the spot, delivering a powerful punch to one of the others, causing sparks to fly.

“Hey, you know what the hell’s going on?” Eighteen heard, before several of the androids left to engage the new threat. Eighteen grinned, taking her opportunity to overpower one of the androids, and removing his head from his body. It collapsed with a crash, and Eighteen spun around just in time to catch a blow on the head that she still held in her hand. The fist passed right through, coming out close to Eighteen’s head.

Raising one of her powerful legs, she kicked at her assailant, sending him backwards across the warehouse, head still attached to his arm. She dropped to the floor, avoiding a low kick from another, before pushing herself off the ground and jumping at another android, feet first.

Her feet were grabbed, however, and her body spun round, resulting in her crashing onto the ground. She stood up with a growl, clicking her neck.

“Oh, now you’re going to pay,” she said, her bright white aura exploding around her. The androids were forced back a few steps, before regaining their previous demeanour and rushing towards the female android. She moved quicker than before, deflecting punches and delivering cruel attacks to her attackers, but not quite enough to destroy any of them.

As she blocked an attack, she looked over to where she had heard the voice, which she had almost forgotten about, and saw a humanoid figure standing there, combating with the rest of the androids . But, there was something different about him. Were they...

“Wings!” Eighteen yelled, just as a fist connected with her stomach, sending her flying backwards into another android. She spun in mid-air and kicked away the android, launching herself towards her saviour’s position.

The remaining androids, however, followed them, and Eighteen found herself back-to-back with the winged individual. She crossed her arms defensively, looking round at the other androids.

“I hope you know how to fight,” Eighteen said to him, before ducking under an attempted punch, retaliating by attacking the android’s elbow with a fiery uppercut, removing her assailant’s forearm. It dropped to the floor with a crash, and sparks flew helplessly from the wires hanging out of the end.

“Try and keep up,” Eighteen said to the angel look-a-like, before rushing forwards to confront the androids in front of her.

- - - Fonos’ Viewpoint - - -

Delivering an overhand punch at the top of the android’s head, he felt it easily give way under the force of his punch and snap in two pieces. Pulling his fist out, he jumped up and attempted to check to see who was coming, but was too late. The other robots had already converged on him and he realized this by the swift karate-style kick aimed at his neck.

Falling to his knees for a moment, Fonos blinked, trying to get the red from his sphere of vision, which gave the other two droids the time to rush forward and deliver their own punches at the demon. Fonos looked around at the knees of the androids, before delivering a swift jab at one of them. It had been a malfunctioning model and so easily caved in under the pressure.

Grabbing its leg, he then used the momentum from the own android’s body weight and swung it in a quick three hundred sixty degree arc, which forced back the other two. Quickly getting to his feet, Fonos chucked the now handicapped robot over to the right, where it hit the ground with a sickening thud and sparks flew in every direction from the fried circuitry.

Jumping into the air, he let his wings out just the slightest bit for stability as he began to bicycle kick the drone nearest him. It didn’t seem to show much effect, because it simply aimed an arm at the demon and swiped to the right. Fonos swerved to avoid the contact and quickly landed back on the ground. But before he could slip them back inside his body and hide them from view: “Wings!”

He gave a wry smile, but didn’t bother responding. The two bots decided they wanted to learn strategy, so they cautiously inched forward, spread out so that he couldn’t attack them simultaneously, then did the precise thing he himself couldn’t anymore. Fonos went for the one on his left. Throwing a quick jab aimed at the face, he watched as the android took a step back, slightly dazed.

Without waiting for him to recover, he turned to the other fighter, and did a roundhouse kick that connected perfectly with his jaw. As he spun, the human slipped right up beside him and angled so that they were fighting back to back. He sighed when he saw that her “posse” had followed. But she pressed her back up against him and suddenly it was no problem with him.

“I hope you know how to fight,” she said cockily. Fonos almost responded with a quick, quirky remark, but was cut off by one of the androids attempting to slam him in the stomach. Holding his arms out in an X and hunkering down, he took the slam head on and forced back, giving a solid Spartan kick in return. The man fell to the floor, and Fonos leaped on top of him, and twisted his head violently to the side. The lights dimmed as it was forcibly deactivated.

“Try and keep up.” The voice cut through the din of battle and the demon turned for a moment, to see the woman bravely charge forward into battle. Fonos started to charge a beam of energy to slice through the assailants, but the light dimmed from his finger as quickly as it was charged. He cursed viciously, having forgotten. His Ki stores were depleted after returning to life. It would take several days for him to be back up to speed.

He didn’t have several days.

Hearing footsteps behind him, Fonos shoved his elbow backwards in a violent shove and felt as whoever had been trying to sneak up on him fell to the ground. “Keep up? Do you know who you’re talking to?” Fonos chuckled. Of course she didn’t. Turning around, he leaped onto the fallen robot to finish the job his elbow had started, repeatedly punching into the same dent in the chest he’d just made, until there was a hole in it, where he quickly pulled out as much wires and tubes as he could. He figured he must have gotten lucky, because it dimmed and everything stopped whirring.

It was dead.

- - - The Android - - -

Moving with a certain finesse, Eighteen avoided the blows thrown at her, before returning them in kind. As a huge attack came at her from one of the more sophisticated androids, Eighteen ducked, and the fist flew harmlessly over her head. Pulling back her fist, she launched it towards his stomach, passing straight through the metal encasing and into his wiring. Sparks flew from the contact as Eighteen grabbed at his internals, before yanking them out of its body and throwing them on the floor.

“I don’t think you’ll be needing them anymore,” Eighteen said, before kicking the now defective android in the side, sending it toppling over. Grinning to herself, she turned around, listening to her partner’s comments. “Obviously not...” she muttered to herself, seeing the androids that he had already destroyed.

As her mind was distracted, however, two huge arms grabbed her from behind, holding her arms in place. She struggled about to no avail; the android’s arms were far too strong.

“It would do you well to not struggle. It will only make your pain worse,” came the voice of Android 12 behind her, and she felt him dragging her off towards one of the walls. Unable to see where she was being taken, she desperately tried to escape, suddenly fearful for what could happen to her.

I’m not asking him for help... Eighteen thought to herself as she caught sight of the wing-man fighting in the distance, unaware of her being taken away. She calmed herself slowly, grasping at all the left-over power within her.

Her body began to shake, power emanating from her very being. She felt Android Twelve’s arms begin to shake, the strain of holding the fiery blonde increasing. Her aura began to steadily grow, and she felt Twelve’s grip loosening. Seizing her opportunity, she expelled an electrical surge from her body, sending Twelve flying backwards.

She landed on her knees on the floor, and her power dropped from the use of the pulse. She turned slowly, and her mouth dropped. The Android had flew backwards, right into some sort of contraption, comprised mainly of hanging wires, sparks flying without cause from them. They had clasped themselves into Twelve’s head, and his eyes had turned a bright white, his pupils seemingly disappeared.

His body began to grow substantially, and his metal frame grew to epic proportions. Pulling himself free from the wires, Twelve advanced towards Eighteen. She stepped back callously, wary of whatever his new power might be.

“I guess I’ll be the one doing the testing, then,” Twelve said, his voice even deeper than before. Eighteen growled softly, before launching herself at the inferior model. Pulling back her fist, she threw it towards her face, and it connected with a deafening clang.

Eighteen fell backwards, holding her throbbing hand. Her eyes widened as she looked up at the Android, and she dropped backwards onto the floor, slowly edging away. “What are you?” Eighteen yelled at it, before jumping to her feet and moving quickly backwards towards the angel-man. “I might need your help here!” She said to him, turning to check he was close enough.

She turned back quickly, and was surprised to see Twelve’s face right in her own. “I’m your worst nightmare,” he said to Eighteen, before swinging his arm at her, sending her flying backwards into the far wall.

- - - Fonos’ Plan - - -

Fonos looked around to see that not many of the androids were left – perhaps three at the most. But they all seemed to be headed towards him. He briefly wondered what had happened to the blonde haired human, but had not much time to consider, as the remaining droids all ran up to him, ready to end him for whatever purpose they had been programmed with. Cracking his knuckles, he lowered himself and spread his legs apart, arms outstretched in a wrestler’s stance.

As the first robot slammed into him, Fonos took the hit dead on, lowering his hold on the ground somewhat, so that they would tumble back. Using the heavy metals as help, he positioned his foot on the android and kicked back so that they both tumbled another half turn and Fonos ended up on top.

The drone had slammed into the ground head first, and its inner workings were now spread across the floor in a heap. Smirking, Fonos rolled to the side, only to be slammed in a solid jab at the jaw that left him stunned. In that moment, the android he had just got off did one last thing to help its buddies before falling – it grabbed Fonos’ leg and in one swift jerk, forced the demon to the ground.

Grunting in pain as he slammed the ground painfully, Fonos winced irritably. This was an amazing greeting to Arlia, he decided. Flipping directly onto his back, the demon held his arms over his head and placed the palms quickly onto the cold tile floor, before pushing. Feeling his muscles strain, he forced his legs upward just in time to catch another android underneath the chin, while at the same time getting to his feet as well.

Suddenly, a shockwave passed over everyone in the vicinity, and he felt the remaining androids both shudder. The one on the ground began to smoke and hiss and burst into flames. The other began mumbling in unintelligible code, before its head burst, spewing plastic and iron across the general vicinity.

Fonos felt a shake as a sudden decrease in power from somewhere behind him. Thinking one of the remaining androids were still alive, he spun on his heel to see that the electrical surge had come from the human. “Wha…?” his mind locked momentarily. Are you one of them? He thought to himself, swallowing slightly.

Had he been helping a beautiful human woman, or had he merely inserted himself into a battle of robots that would almost certainly end in his death? But a sudden ghost wind surged around the Ki-sensitive Fonos, and he glanced up, seeing one of the androids bulk up, before slowly lowering to the ground. “I guess I’ll be the one doing the testing, then,” it said cockily.

The woman, (android?) threw a power punch at the cheek of the robot that was bound to do serious damage, but instead found herself leaping backwards, grasping her hand in aching pain. Fonos felt the sensation of wind blowing around him, and realized that unconsciously, he had been powering up. Without even thinking about it, he had been willing to help someone he had never met before.

“What are you?” she asked at the behemoth of a drone, but flipping around, golden hair swishing by the action. Eyes connecting with the demon, he felt her determination. Seriously, but seemingly without any sense of urgency, she said, “I might need your help here!” Fonos gave a nod, before running forward.

He stopped, lined up with the woman, staring down the android. “Any particular plan you had in mind?” he asked the woman. After a moment of looking around the warehouse, he saw what he was looking for. He then said, “Well, let’s give this a shot. You go up front and distract him again, but try not to get too hurt in the process. And when I give the signal, back off. Hopefully, you’ll recognize it.”

With that, Fonos’ wings unfolded, and he leaped into the air, flying straight up for the walkways near the top of it. Touching down on the railing, he stared down at the console before him, glancing up periodically to try and figure out which lever went where. He had to be absolutely sure, and he couldn’t test his theory out early because of the delicacy and accuracy needed for the job.

Finally, he found what he was looking for: the lever that controlled the door to the sterilization chamber. In it were gallons of pure water and bleach, along with other chemical properties that were used to sterilize the outer portions of the androids before use. He figured now that Twelve was activated, it would be at the very least, critical if it were to make contact.

And finally, the signal: Fonos let his aura flash in a wide, fiery arc across the warehouse, temporarily making it appear as if a dying sun had entered it by accident. After a moment or two, he rearranged the location of the tank and threw the switch; the chamber turned on its side as the inner contents were all poured out onto the exact location he had found the android to be at that moment.

At the same time, he leapt off the metal railing and fell to the floor, hoping to finish the job alongside his partner, … “What did you say your name was, again?” the demon shouted, as he hit the ground and rolled. He didn’t yet know exactly where the blonde was but was assuming she heard him and would answer. “Mine’s Fonos.”

- - - The Aftermath - - -

Eighteen pulled herself slowly from the wall, debris falling all around her. She cracked her neck softly, walking slowly towards Twelve.

“Big mistake,” she said to the android before her, her eyes moving slowly around her, looking for some kind of weapon. Her eyes glanced upon a steel rod, and she grinned softly. Ignoring it for now, she rushed at the hulk of an android, her aura flaring as she ran.

She reached the android in a matter of milliseconds, and proceeded to pummel without any restraint upon his stomach. The attacks, however, seemed to do no damage, and Twelve just grinned. He moved to grab Eighteen, who quickly rolled to the side.

“Looks like I’m still faster than you, big boy,” she said to him, ducking as another blow came for her face. Seizing her chance, she tackled him to the ground, resulting in a huge crash throughout the warehouse. Raising her arm once more, she delivered a strong punch right to his throat, but there seemed to be no effect from that either.

Twelve grinned, grabbing Eighteen’s arms. “You shouldn’t have fought back,” he said, before throwing the female android the length of the warehouse, causing her to crash into one of the tanks. She heard a crack behind her, and sparks began to fly off from the destroyed machinery. One of the loose wires, moving of its own accord, connected with Eighteen’s back, and she felt power surging through her. Her components were recharged, and she jumped up quickly from the wreckage of the tank.

“Now you’ve had it, dick face,” Eighteen said, and a huge aura jumped around her. Several metal items around her flew into the air, attracted to her strong magnetic pull. She raised her arm into the air, and the metal pipe flew across the room, setting itself firmly in her hand. She braced herself, before setting off at a sprint, just as a flash appeared overhead.

She held the pole like a joust, aimed right for Twelve’s head. As she neared him, some sort of substance covered him, and Eighteen heard screams of pain coming from his vocal unit. Just at that point, she reached him, and thrust the pole right into his face, passing right through the metal covering, as well as all of the inner circuitry. She kept pushing the pole forwards until it could go no more, and her hand was touching the android’s head.

With a groan, she pulled it free of Twelve, who collapsed onto the floor in an ugly heap. Eighteen herself collapsed backwards, taking the time to rest upon the nice, cold, wooden floor of the warehouse. Suddenly she heard movement in the rafters above, and remembered her companion.

“What did you say your name was, again?” the wing-man shouted as he hit the ground and rolled right in front of Eighteen. “Mine’s Fonos.”

“The name’s Eighteen. That’s name, age, and Model all rolled into one. Handy, hey?” She said with a scorn in her voice, instantly distrustful of anybody and everybody. “What are you doing here? I can see that you’re not an android. And, while we’re on the subject, what’s with the wings? You some kinda’ angel?”

Eighteen raised from the ground slowly, looking down at her hand. The metal covering had been scrubbed off by the substance that had covered Twelve, and she grimaced at it. It was now a bare metal hand, with the circuitry showing around the slender metal fingers. “I should really fix this,” She said, before shrugging, and looking up at Fonos, ready for his answers.

- - - The Aftermath: Part II - - -

“The name’s Eighteen.” Fonos jumped back in surprise. He’d had no idea he had landed so close to ‘Eighteen.’ But he quickly walked back over to her as she continued talking. For some reason, he felt some kind of pull to the woman before him. “That’s name, age, and Model all rolled into one. Handy, eh?”

“I suppose so,” Fonos agreed hesitantly, suspicions revealed. So she was an android. He mentally sighed. It had been too long, he decided, since he’d last seen Chira. Proof of this was his attraction to a robot. At the idiocy level he’d just achieved, the demon immediately felt his face flush. He had no doubt in his mind that both Grand Kai and Yamma were looking at him, laughing their cocky asses off at his foolishness.

But he tore his mind from these thoughts as Eighteen continued again. He tried to keep eye contact with her but found that he couldn’t anymore, so he settled for staring at her hair. It was near enough her eyes that it looked natural without him actually being forced to look at her directly, where he was sure he’d see an accusing look, even if only on a small scale.

As if she had been reading his mind, she instantly began an accusatory rant. “What are you doing here? I can see that you’re not an android. And, while we’re on the subject, what’s with the wings? You some kinda’ angel?” The demon winced, and quickly folded his wings up, before responding curtly.

“No, I’m not. I’m actually as close to the opposite side of that spectrum as I can be and still be considered different.” He didn’t elaborate further. His history was his business for most and only rarely told mortals; in fact, he had never told a drone before and, appearance or no, she wasn’t quite far enough along in knowing him for that information to be delved into freely.

He saw her look down at her slender hand and followed her gaze to see that it was no longer a slender hand. The metal covering had been scrubbed off by the substance that had covered Twelve, and it was now a bare metal hand, with the circuitry showing. The teen grimaced, and muttered, “I should really fix this.”

With that, she looked up and stared him directly in the eyes. The demon swallowed, before coughing lightly. “Yeah, you should,” he said blankly, trying hard not to break out in sweat. After a while of the pregnant silence that filled the area, he murmured, “Well, I’m off. I was actually trying to find some kind of civilization or something. I’m a bit… lost.”

He hesitated for a second, before continuing. “You can come too, if you like. Though I’m sure you’d much rather stay with the warm welcoming crew of your brethren.” Fonos gave a quiet chuckle at that, before letting his wings slowly unfold. Giving the android a once over and trying hard to remember that she was as organic as a toaster, he gave a half wave and a nod and said, “I’ll be seeing you, then,” and jumped into the air, letting his wings flap slowly.

He hesitated that small instant in case she wanted to come still. Fonos wasn’t absolutely certain, but he was about ninety nine percent sure she didn’t want to be alone in that house of horrors.

Fonos pulled away from his daydream for a moment to hear a faint buzzing noise coming from the room. Someone was paging him. Clicking the button on his telecommunicator, Fonos watched the screen open up and saw Cado grinning like the idiot he was, with the background the same as it was before, that of Avalon.

The Fallen tried hard not to smirk. “Hey, Fonos,” the simpleton shouted, voice almost brimming with pleasure. “I haven’t seen you in months! What’s been going on?”

“Master T has sent me on certain private and classified missions, in quick succession.” He saw his former friend’s face fall somewhat, before coming back full force. He opened his mouth to speak, but Fonos cut across him, expecting the upcoming question: “No, you can’t come, sorry. She told me that what you’re doing on Avalon, this training to become a paladin, fits you too perfectly to ignore at the present moment.”

“Okay…” the disappointment was plain in his voice, and it was with obvious false pep that he finished, “Well, it’s kind of busy over here, so I guess I’ll take to you later. See you, man. Good to talk to you again.”

Fonos shut off the telecommunicator after giving a brief nod and a formal sort of wave good bye. He then lay back on the bed and tried to focus, but he could only think of that last, short scene he and the bio android had shared before he’d fallen once more, symbolically, into the clutches of Lucifer.

After a short moment, Fonos was pleased to note that she took his hand, if somewhat tentatively. The two then flew off out of the warehouse, leaving the pile of wreckage and broken machinery behind; they went slowly at first, but eventually picked up speed.

Eventually, Eighteen let go of Fonos’ hand, and they just flew side by side, two friends connected by a shared feeling of confusion and bonded through conflict. It was needless to say that adrenaline was pumping through Fonos’ body; he hadn’t been in combat that swift and violent in years, even excluding the time he’d been dead, waiting in line for King Yemma’s decision.

To be continued…
