Hopset…

Gary Rochelle looked out the window of the kitchen. He could see the farm belonging to the house. Most of the early morning chores had been completed and he seemed content with seeing the fruits of his labor. It was about 5 years since he was left to care for the house and everything attached to it. Lot of things had changed here but one thing remained constant. Every once in a while he was due to receive visits from a certain person.

*Door opens*

“Mr. Rochelle?” came a voice.

Gary turned and headed for the living room. Once there he was met with familiar faces.

“Hi, Mr. Rochelle. I hope ya don’t mind but we need to stay here for a little while.”

Standing in the living room requesting lodgings in the home were, Lex Argone, Shaira Luong and Junior Hiiragi. Mr. Rochelle gave a smile, always eager to see the faces of young Hiiragi and Luong.

“Sure, kids, make yourself at home.

Within the Deep Blue Sea! Hunt for the Dragon Ball!

The trio set their things down in Junior’s old room. Lex looked at the room in awe. The space was pretty big compared to places in the city.

“I can’t believe this guy has kept your room open for you all this time,” he said.

Junior finished hanging his jacket in the closet and turned to Lex.

“Well when grandma died, Dad requested that Mr. Rochelle keep my room open for visits. Dad and I sometimes come to visit the town to get away from the crazy city life and it’s good we can stay here,” explained Junior.

Gary poked his head into the room and pointed toward the stairs.

“I was prepping lunch before you got here. I have some for you three if you’re all hungry.”

Lex wasted no time running downstairs. He flew by Gary and down to the kitchen at the same time saying, “Man, am I ever!”

Shaira and Junior just watched him leave. Junior shrugged as Shaira rolled her eyes. They then followed him downstairs with Gary to the dining room table. Gary set up a spread of different sandwich meats, cheeses, dressings and bread. Lex looked at it like a man who had not eaten in days. The trio sat down and Lex immediately helped himself to the spread, building a sandwich.

“Ugh, Lex, have some manners!” Shaira said.

Junior had a sweat drop on his forehead as he looked to Shaira.

You sure do like asking for miracles don’t you. he thought.

“You kids can get started. It’s ok. I’m sure glad to have company.”

Junior and Shaira began to make their sandwiches while Gary grabbed a pitcher of water, a pitcher of iced tea and some glasses. Setting them down on the table everybody was set to eat.

“So what brings you kids back to Hopset?”

“Our parents are busy back home and school is out for a while so we figured we’d take a trip out to the country,” explained Junior.

Shaira looked at him for a moment then realized their mission was best left a secret. Junior was hard pressed to believe it himself.

Dr. Hiiragi's car pulled up in front of his building as per usual at the end of his work day. He was tired from a full day of meetings and research and couldn't wait to get into his apartment. Walking through the front door, he was greeted with the sight of his son in the living room with a roll along bulletin board. Dr. Hiiragi walked over to his son rather curiously.

"I wasn't aware your school had given you a project to work on over the summer."

On the board, there was a diagram set up with a map of the area. There were several circles on the map and Junior was hard at work looking it over.

"What class is this for, Junior?"

"I wish this was a school project. I'm actually taking interest in a peculiar crime going on. I wanted to get to it before we got hit next," Junior replied.

Dr. Hiiragi stroked his chin.

"Ah, a job for Gokou Jr.?"

Junior gave a nod.

"Nah, I want to leave fancy heroics out of this one. Besides, that one appearance by Gokou Jr. has Shaira pondering enough. I don't want her suspecting me again."

Dr. Hiiragi just shrugged. "Your choice. Now about these robberies..."

"Well I thought they were pretty strange at first but I figured it out. Walk with me so to speak."

Junior pointed at one of the circles at the very bottom of the map. Dr. Hiiragi paid attention.

"23 Gold Street. This one was hit first. He broke in at 1:35am estimated. Nothing was stolen," Junior explained

"Nothing of value maybe?" Dr. Hiiragi asked.

"Plenty of value. That place belongs to Gardners. They have a net worth of 53 billion zeni and growing."

Dr. Hiiragi's eyes popped wide open.

"My reaction too. But then this happened..."

He pointed to a house further north.

"The Brewers house. You know them. They finance your labs and research. Again, nothing stolen."

"So wait, you're saying..."

"Every house on the bulletin board is connected. They're all either business partners or have some sort of relation to Hiiragi Labs. That's why I'm taking an interest. If everything has been interpreted right your lab is next for a break in."

"But why should I worry? This guy isn't stealing anything." Dr. Hiiragi asked.

"I'll tell you. Every house on this board connects back to Hiiragi labs. That means they all use the same security system because they're well to do. The perp breaks into one of these houses each time, not stealing anything, not breaking an entering. ONLY, disabling the security system and walking right in. What does that tell you?"

Dr. Hiiragi pondered for a moment. Then his eyes widened again while Junior's eyes narrowed and his frown tightened into an angry grimace.

"Practice run..." they spoke in unison.

Dr. Hiiragi reached for his phone and began scrolling numbers.

"Our perp has been breaking into houses that use the same security system, timing himself, getting a good feel for how long it will take to break it just so..."

"He can break into my labs and steal whatever he needs." Dr. Hiiragi said.

He went to dial a number. Junior held up a hand to stop him.

"Don't bother. Alerting security at the labs won't do any good. Our perp has that covered."

"So what do we do?"

Junior had a sneaky grin on his face.

"Leave that to me...."

----------

Later that night...

Hiiragi labs was closed down for the night. It was close to 1am. With Junior was Detective Sulley and Inspector McGruber. They staked out somewhere across the street, keeping watching.

"Are you sure this guy will strike here tonight?" Inspector asked Sulley.

Sulley looked to Junior. Junior had a serious expression on his face so Sulley turned back to the inspector.

"I'm sure."

"One other question. Why is the kid here? It's way past curfew."

Junior had an annoyed expression.

Hey! The kid has a name. And I'm the reason you even have this lead.

Junior often found himself annoyed with the bureaucracy involving stuff like this but for the sake of keeping himself off radar he worked behind the scenes to help Sulley as best as he could. It gave him the satisfaction of still doing something good without having to take recognition for it.

"Well he is my assistant." Sulley said.

Besides I knew a squeezable neck in case this turns out to be wrong.

"Fair enough. I just have issues with exposing children to this kind of stuff."

Junior stood up finally and gave a respectful bow.

"As you wish, Inspector. I'll leave the rest to you."

With that Junior started to walk off.

"Junior wait!" Sulley said.

"Good luck with it," Junior said.

Junior had an annoyed expression on his face.

Children...I'm not a child. Besides they have all the information they need. If they don't make this bust, it's their fault.

Junior turned the corner and then saw a figure dash around the other end. His eyes widened before he became suspicious.

Huh? Who was that?

Immediately Junior started running for the other corner. Around the bend he saw a man presenting a security pass to the watchman. He ducked back around the bend.

Strange...I'm fairly certain nobody comes back into the building after its been closed down but security officers and people accompanied by my dad. Must be the perp, right on schedule. Now how to get in there before he does the deed.

Junior looked down at his jacket.

Really don't want to have to do this but Sulley and the Inspector will never catch this guy in time. This is my dad's company.

Junior reached inside his jacket and pulled a headband and two wristbands. The watchman was in his box watching TV when he felt the watchbox shake slightly. He got up and stepped outside. Looking around nobody was there. Crouched down on the top of the Watchman's post box was Junior, wearing black pants, a black tank top and a black headband on. He had black streaks of pant under each eye and was watching the person carefully. When the watchman went back into his box and continued watching TV he lunged from his crouch point and made his way inside.

Easy...

He caught up with the man who was now messing with the keypad on the door. It was the security lock to get inside. In a matter of moments he managed to disable the keypad without forcefully breaking it. Junior watched him from a lamp post, perched above the light where he couldn't be seen.

This door leads to the security room. once he gets in there and disables the system he can go wherever he pleases. Not gonna happen.

Junior dropped down after the man made his way inside. He went inside and stayed quiet. The man was walking down the hall. Junior kept himself unseen. When the man found the door he was looking for, he went inside.

He's not going to have to do anything fancy to get that security system down.

Junior saw a vent shaft and climbed in. He made his way along the shaft until he got to the gates over the security room. Looking in, he saw the man by his lonesome working at the security panel.

Dad, when this is over, remind me to talk to you about hiring more security staff. He thought.

The man managed to disable the security system in a few short moments.

He did it. Now that the security is disabled there's only one reason anyone breaks into a research lab. I need to get there first. Or maybe....

Junior had a grin on his face. He waited for the man to leave the room. When he did, Junior pulled the vent grate off and dropped down into the security room.

"Cameras...cameras....I need the security cameras."

Junior looked around. He saw the panel for the cameras and went for it. He began working the controls.

I need to restore the cameras for this to work. And....

Suddenly the camera board in front of him re-displayed live footage after pushing several buttons.

Got it! Now where are you perp?

He switched through camera views till he found his man. The mysterious stranger had made his way to a restricted door by this time and was looking to enter.

"Now I gotta get this system back on quickly."

Junior wasn't good with technology but he hoped he had enough know how to handle this. Junior went back to the main board. He started working on the key panel. No response. So now he went down to the circuit board below. As he was sifting through wires he saw something strange attached to the main board.

This looks like a circuit disruptor. I just remove that and...

The security panel's main key panel began to power on again. He looked to the security cameras again. His perp had made it inside the restricted zone and was moving toward one of the offices.

Not much time. Gotta do this quickly.

Junior went to key panel, getting a main menu on screen. His hands were all over the keyboard swiftly.

"Dad there may just be hope for me as techie yet!" Junior said to himself.

Finally he went for his final key.

If this works then... He pushed the button. Immediately, he pushed the button.

"Security system online! Security Activation in 1 minute."

Junior went back toward the door realizing he had a better way out. He closed the door and locked it from the inside. Then placing two fingers on his forehead he proceeded to vanished from the room. The back door that the perp had gotten into suddenly was shut by a gust of wind. Sulley and Inspector McGruber were sitting there at their stakeout spot still.

"We've been here for an hour and no sign of anything strange. Your assistant called this wrong." said Inspector.

"That little imbe..."

Suddenly the alarms went off inside the building catching their attention. Immediately Inspector McGruber radioed in.

"I need officers at Hiiragi Labs right now! I repeat, i need available officers here at Hiiragi Labs right now!"

Across the street opposite of all the action, Junior reappeared. He removed his headband, reverting his clothing back to normal. With a grin on his face, Junior ran off for home unnoticed.

---------

The next day

Junior sat at the breakfast table with his dad. They were looking at the newspaper. The headline read "Corotine Security Burglar captured at Hiiragi Labs".

"That was pretty smart, turning the security systems back on after he went into the restricted zone." Dr. Hiiragi said.

"Yeah, well at least you know I listen to some of the things you say about that stuff." Junior said.

"Yes son you do. I'll give you that. Well I'm about to be off to work." Dr. Hiiragi said.

"Alright. I'm meeting up with Lex and Shaira. We're gonna hit the library and get some summer reading done." Junior said.

"Ok fair enough. Have fun with it and see you back home for dinner."

Junior gave a nod and watched his dad head for the front door. Junior then went inside his room to get changed for the day ahead. He met with Shaira and Lex at the Library near school.

"Remind me who and why we were assigned to read over the summer?" said Lex.

Shaira sighed while Junior shrugged.

"Our teacher assigned it to us because it's supposed to keep our minds sharp while we're out of school," Junior explained.

Lex looked to Junior.

"Yeah like you need the extra help. All that crime solving you do keeps you sharp," Lex said.

"Just pick a book, Lex!" Shaira went.

Junior didn't have to think much. He picked up a book quickly. Shaira picked up a book as well.

"What did you pick, Junior?"

"This is Coldra Landwell's newest book. 'Stifle in the Clock Tower'."

"Ah, another horrific mystery novel. I picked 'The Twilight Prince'."

Junior's took a moment to breath, remembering the one he knew that also went by that name.

They wrote a book about him. Interesting.

But when he looked at the cover, the prince looked nothing like the man he knew. So he shrugged it off. Apparently it was a common name. Lex was looking around for a book on the shelves.

"None of these books look interesting. Sigh."

He then saw a book next to his hand that read Existing Legends & Myths.

"What a plain title for a book. But might as well take it."

Lex grabbed the book and walked over to the table with Shaira and Junior. They saw the title of his book.

"Myths and Legends huh?" Shaira said.

"Well it's a book. Might as well."

Junior shrugged and started reading his.

Some time after the three started reading, Lex put his book down on the table with a slight thud, getting Shaira and Junior's attention (Shaira's moreso).

"Guys look at this," he said.

Shaira looked but Junior just went back to his book and perked his ears to show he was listening at least. Looking at the book, Shaira saw a picture of a green chinese-like dragon looming in a darkened sky. Then she read the title of the chapter.

"Legend of Shenron?" Shaira said.

"Yeah, apparently Shenron is this dragon that can be called on once a year to grant any one wish," Lex explained.

"Any wish?" she asked.

Lex nodded in affirmation to her question. Immediately Shaira began to think about what she would wish for. Images of Gokou Jr. came to her head at that moment. Memories of him rescuing her and images of Junior rapidly filled her mind.

Shenron would be able to tell me who he really is...

"Unfortunately you don't just throw your hands up and say Shenron appear. There are these things called Dragon Balls that have to be gathered together first."

Junior hid his face in the book he was reading and began thinking back.

Panther Claw once mentioned something about dragon balls. I had to stop them from killing a woman for one she possessed.

After running through the memory of the event, he began pondering on the dragon balls.

I was so focused on getting information about my father's disappearance back then I didn't get the story on the dragon balls.

Junior shrugged trying to keep his knowledge hidden.

"Who ever heard of a genie dragon? Sounds like a goofy myth if I ever heard one." Junior said.

Then came a raspy voice.

"Ahh, but the dragon balls are anything but a myth my young man."

Junior and crew jumped at the sound of the voice and looked behind Junior. Standing there was a fisherman who wreaked of fish oils.

"Eh! Who are you?!" Shaira asked.

Junior held his nose and had a large sweat drop over his forehead.

And when's the last time you used a bar of soap? he thought.

"My identity is of no real importance, children. But I will say the dragon balls you read of and Shenron are no myth. I've seen them before."

Shaira and Lex looked interested.

"It is quite the sight when the dragon appears. The sky goes black and becomes filed with spectacular shows of electric lightning bolts and a bright beam shoots up into the sky from the seven balls on the ground which forms the large majestic dragon and then he shall speak to the one who called him.

*Shenron voice*: You have awakened the dragon! And so you have will be granted one single wish! What is your desire?

When your wish has been spoken, his red eyes will glow and whatever it is you ask for will become reality. Then just like that he vanishes, the balls rise up into the sky and scatter about the earth again, hidden from the world till a year later, they can be searched for again!"

Shaira and Lex envisioned the story as he told it and had their mouths hanging wide open in shock. Junior was sunk down in the chair looking rather green.

Anyone have a bar of soap and a shower for this guy?

-----------------------------------------------

The trio finished their lunch with Gary and got up. Junior looked to Gary and gave a questioning expression.

"Is my motorbike still working? The group and I want to take a ride around."

"Yeah sure, it's out in the shed."

Junior went outside for the shed immediately. Lex and Shaira were soon to follow but Shaira stopped and looked to Gary giving a gracious bow.

"Thank you for lunch, Mr. Rochelle."

"You're welcome, Shaira."

Shaira was about to go out the door when Gary stopped her by calling her name again.

"Yes?" she answered as she looked back to him.

"Call it guess, but I'd say you and Junior were made for each other. Good luck."

Shaira gave a smile and her face blushed just a bit. She then left to follow Junior, leaving Gary to sigh and smile.

"To be young and in love again..."

The group mounted Junior's motorbike. Lex sat in the side car attachment while Shaira sat behind Junior and wrapped her arms around him. Normally this was not much of a big deal but as she did this, the words of Gary Rochelle echoed in her head. And this time holding Junior as she did felt warm and fuzzy. She felt as safe as she could be. Junior had a slight smile on his face feeling her hold him firmly. But then he looked down to Lex, who held the dragon radar out for them to see.

"What does it say?"

"If I'm reading this right, the dragon ball detector indicates a dragon ball out west. of here."

"That means we're headed to Pilotsville. Hang on."

Junior started up the motorbike and pulled off for the road. Turning right the bike started to move on past the house. The three waved to Gary as they moved by him standing outside the house. With the open road ahead, the trio soon focused on their mission; finding the dragon ball.

-----------------------------

Junior and Shaira were standing in front her apartment building. It was a bit later in the afternoon and Shaira was ready to go home and help make dinner.

"So what do you think about going out to find the Dragon Balls, Junior?" she asked.

"Eh, I don't know," he replied.

"It would be like when we were little kids. I bet it would be a lot of fun!" Shaira said.

"Yeah, I suppose. But if they're scattered across the earth, it would take a long time. Not to mention the possible dangers."

Junior wasn't one to really talk considering he'd spent a few months in space with a half demon. But the Dragon Balls did sound like something that would generate a lot of dangerous attention. He shook his head. Shaira jumped up onto the stoop and grabbed the banister throwing her head to the wind.

"The danger would be half the excitement, Junior! Plus think of the places we'd get to see."

And perhaps...he'll show up again. she thought as she stood up straight again.

"I'd have to ask my Dad, as would you having to ask your parents."

Shaira gave a nod.

"True! Anyway I have to get going. I'll call you after dinner."

Junior gave a nod and watched Shaira walk into her building. He then turned and headed for his building. His dad would most likely be home by the time he got there. A trip upstairs to the apartment would prove this to be true. Junior stepped inside the apartment to find his dad looking through papers at the living room table. He looked up when Junior entered the room.

"Oh hello son! You're home. How was the library?"

Junior shrugged.

"It was ok. Found another mystery novel to immerse myself into. Work?"

"Actually had a visit from one of the top inventors of Capsule Corp., Ms. Bulma Briefs."

Junior gave a nod. He was about to go into his room when Dr. Hiiragi chimed in again.

"She and I had been working on replicating this thing called a Dragon Radar she has."

Junior's brows quirked just then.

"Dragon Radar?" He said.

"Yeah, there are these things called Dragon Balls. The radar is actually able to detect them and pinpoint their location."

Junior seemed surprised.

"You're looking for the dragon balls?" Junior asked.

"Nah, Bulma was planning to make upgrades to hers and decided a build from scratch would be best. I invented quite a few trinkets myself so I decided to help. I think I finished it but I'd need to test it."

Junior shook his head.

"Well, it's crazy but, Shaira and Lex were reading about the dragon balls in the library. The two of them want to go looking..."

His dad looked intrigued.

"Interesting. What about you?"

Junior gave a hesitant look.

"I'm concerned. The search could be..."

"Dangerous? Of course. But as Hiiragis danger, excitement and the unknown seem to revolve around us. So that shouldn't stop you. Unless you're worried about them."

Junior said nothing. His look told the story to his father.

"Well, the Junior I know would do anything to protect his friends. So that wouldn't be an issue. But I have to be a dad first. That would be easier if I hadn't let you fly into space just only a few months ago. I'll just ask one thing."

Junior locked eyes with his father involuntarily just then.

"Promise me that no matter what, you'll protect Shaira and Lex from anything that might happen while you three are out there. If you can do that, I'll let you go. Something tells me Shaira and Lex will go no matter what so you should be there."

Junior was quiet as he looked his father in the eyes. His expression turned serious.

---------------------------

"We're here!" Went Shaira.

Junior snapped out of his daydreaming. They had crossed the line into Pilotsville. This town, named Pilotsville because of its small airport and light house near the ocean blue, was a popular beach town between the three towns of Hopset, Secaucus and Crashtown. Junior had only been here twice. His grandmother wasn't a beach person and his father took him here on his 8th and 9th birthdays. Summer well underway, there were lots of tourists about and beach goers. Lex seemed to be looking around in every direction.

"Heheh, wow Junior! We should come here every summer. Look at all the bikini girls!"

Shaira looked at Lex with an angry expression.

"Yeah, you're not pervert!"

"That's right, keep objecting! Bet you shut up the moment a hot muscled life guard walks by!" Lex replied.

Shaira punched him in the head.

"Ow!"

"That's what you get, jerk!"

The arguing between the two commenced while Junior just sighed and shook his head.

Today is going to be a handful.

Junior parked the bike in a small parking lot. He then turned to his two friends.

"How about you two stop bickering long enough for someone to check the dragon radar."

Junior snatched the radar from Lex's hand and pushed the button. Looking onto the map display he could see the dragon ball's signal close to the center of the screen. It was here alright. Junior frowned however.

"Good news and bad news. The good news is the ball is definitely nearby." Junior said.

"And the bad news....?" went Shaira.

"If I'm reading this right, then it's out there," he pointed toward the water, "in the ocean."

Lex seemed to turn pale. Shaira seemed a bit concerned.

"Well, that's bad. I can't swim!" Lex went.

"That's not an entirely huge concern. It's the ocean so no matter how good a swimmer you are we couldn't just jump in and go looking. There also rip currents out there," Junior explained.

"So how do we get the ball?" Shaira asked.

"We need some gear. We need..."

Lex had a smirk on his face as he looked off in the other direction.

"We need a boat!"

Junior looked over in the same direction Lex was pointing at that moment. There was a boat rental and scuba diving shop over there. Junior nodded. It was just the thing they needed. They went over to the boat shop to talk to the owner.

"Sorry kids! You need someone in your party that's 18 yrs or older if you want a boat."

"But, we really need it! It's important!" Shaira said.

The store owner pushed the three out of store.

"You want a boat? Get someone who is old enough to rent it for you. Have a good day!"

The man went inside the store and shut the door on them. Lex was extremely angry.

"You old toad! See if we take our business here again!"

Junior started walking again.

"Not what we need right now, Lex."

"How are we going to get the ball if we can't rent a boat?" Shaira asked.

Junior stroked his chin.

I could handle this easily if it were just me. But with those two here this will need a more creative solution.

Junior looked around. He was piecing together a plan of action. However fate decided to do things for him. A man approached them from behind and caught their attention. The three turned around to him.

"That guy's something huh?"

"Yeah, how he gets business is beyond me," Lex replied.

"I agree. But hey if you kids need a boat, I got one."

Shaira and Lex became excited again. Junior however, held his own. He stepped forward to speak.

"That's nice of you. But who are you and what would you want in return?" Junior asked.

"Name's Jack. I'm actually trying to start up a boat rental service to compete with that guy. So all I want in return is 40 zeni for the day. Any additional days you plan to rent the boat would require an extra 25 per day."

Junior had a smile on his face. It was an honest deal if he ever heard one. Junior ponied up the money almost immediately.

"Do you also have diving gear? Shaira and I were planning to go down a bit," Junior asked.

"Yeah, follow me over to the shack and I'll show ya my stuff."

Junior and crew had caught a lucky break. The three followed Jack to the hut on the other end of the beach. There were three boats there, all in good condition and several pieces of diving gear. There was enough for at least five people.

"You kids will actually be my first customers. I just filled up the oxygen tanks too. So they're all ready to go. When are you looking to go out?"

The three teens looked at each other. Then they looked at Jack with excited grins and shouted, "Immediately!" Jack took a step back laughing kind of nervously. Junior put the money out again.

"So we'll just be needing it for the day so 40 dollars for the boat and...?"

"I think 50 per set of scuba gear will be fair," Jack said.

"Junior, can you cover that?" Lex asked.

Junior was already paying for the gear. He grabbed one of the boats after putting the diving gear inside. and looked to the other two.

"Help me push this thing out the water."

Jack, Shaira and Lex helped Junior push the boat out to edge of the beach. Inside the boat were life jackets. The three teens placed them on. Junior looked over to Jack.

"Thanks a lot for this!"

"My pleasure kids! Have a good time out in the water and stay safe."

Lex and Shaira waved to Jack as the water proceeded to carry the boat out further. Junior took the wheel and started up the motor. Soon the boat was off into the ocean. As the trio took off for the deeper part of the water, Jack's smile vanished and he went inside the shack. Inside his office, he reached for what appeared to be a video phone. He dialed a number and a person's face came onto the screen.

"Hello Lt. Gold!"

"What's up, Jack?"

"I just rented a boat and gear to some kids. They may be looking for the dragon ball we detected in the ocean,"

"Keep an eye on those kids. I'll send some backup. Kids are not to be underestimated."

"Understood, sir!"

Jack gave a salute and a nod before signing off. He grabbed a piece of his shirt up on the right side of his chest. He ripped a piece of the cloth off revealing a red ribbon emblem with the letter R on each side of the ribbon emblem.
------

Meanwhile, Junior and crew were speeding across the water. Shaira was enjoying the feel of the sun and the wind blowing her hair around. Lex seemed nervous about being so far out on the water.

"Don't be so nervous, Lex! Junior and I both know how to swim. You won't drown." Shaira said.

"Yeah besides with the diving gear you'll be able to breath down there," Junior added.

Lex sat down in the boat again and reached for the dragon radar. Pulling it out he noticed the signal getting stronger and stronger.

"Start slowing down. We're coming up on the dragon ball now." he said.

Junior started powering down the boat. Lex looked at the signal. By the time the boat stopped, the signal was bleeping directly at the center of the screen. He handed the radar to Junior.

"Looks like we're directly on top of it. Alright now someone has to stay up here on the boat to make sure nobody takes off with it. Lex, you good for that?" Junior asked.

"Eh, sure. Swimming in the water isn't something I want to do anyway."

Shaira and Junior began putting on swim gear. Junior dropped down to boxer shorts while Shaira had on a one piece swim suit. She put on a scuba mask and and the oxygen tank. Junior did the same.

"Alright, we have make this dive count. So let's go down there, find the ball and get back up as quickly as we can. Shaira if we get separated, head straight up to surface and the boat ok?"

Shaira gave a nod. Immediately Junior went to the edge of the boat.

"We'll try not to be gone long, Lex!"

Lex just nodded and said, "have fun down there."

With that, Junior and Shaira dove into the water and started their descent. Lex just looked over the water, concerned. He was unaware of the boat in the distance with someone staring through binoculars at their location. It was Jack, also wearing scuba gear.

"Looks like it's time I went on down after them. They may find the ball, but I'm going to be the one that brings it back."

He jumped down into the water, quickly going under to follow the pair.

Junior looked at his father. He could tell he was serious about the promise. But Junior felt uneasy about what that might mean. But it was a no brainer that if he went to search for the balls with his two friends he'd have to protect them no matter what. Junior accepted this fact and was able to nod.

"I promise!"

This said, Dr. Hiiragi was content to leave the conversation alone and go back to his paper work with the words, "let me know when you're looking to leave. I'll make sure you have what you need." Junior gave a nod and proceeded to his room.

---------------------

Junior and Shaira slowly descended the waters. The ocean was had an abundant supply of sea life. Fish big, medium and small; clams, and crabs, it was all here. There were some coral reefs nearby that glimmered with brilliant different colors. It was a well preserved ocean indeed. But while Shaira marveled at the underwater sights, Junior was focused and determined to complete the mission. He had the dragon radar in his possession.

Brilliant idea, dad. Making the Dragon Radar completely water-proof was really well thought out.

He pushed the button on the Radar to make the screen zoom in for more detail. Junior looked down. He could see a hole in the ocean floor.

The water isn't too deep here. We should be able to swim down in there without being crushed by water pressure.

He looked to Shaira and pointed below. They swam down toward the ocean floor and looked down into hole. The radar was definitely detecting the ball down here. Junior swam inside first. Using a florescent light to illuminate the small tunnel, he then had Shaira follow him on down. Shortly after disappearing into the hole, Jack appeared from behind a rock, having noticed them swim down there. The two continued to swim until the hole opened up into what appeared to be a giant cavern. The two stopped and looked ahead, becoming stunned. Sitting before them was a gigantic wrecked ship!

Wow! Junior thought.

It's amazing! Shaira thought.

Immediately the two started swimming toward it. The radar was detecting the dragon ball just straight ahead.

I can only think that the ball is somewhere in that ship!

The pair entered the ship through a hole near the bottom. They swam up a sunken stairway where they found to their delight the ship had not been completely filled with water. They were able to come up above water inside a hallway in the ship. After they got themselves out of the water they pulled their masks off and took deep breaths.

"Wow, what a trip!" Junior asked.

"Yeah, I'll say! This ship is huge from the outside too."

Junior gave a nod.

"I can't believe we're inside a sunken ship!" Shaira exclaimed.

"Well, as exciting as it is, we shouldn't stay long," said Junior.

Shaira was confused.

"Somehow this ship hasn't lost air pressure being down here. But as we exist down here we use up the air supply. It won't be too long before there's none left. Let's find that dragon ball and get back up the surface."

Junior started down the hallway. Shaira followed behind. Meanwhile, back on the surface, Lex was still sitting on the boat, wondering about his friends.

"I wonder if they've found it yet. The ball is right below this boat somewhere. I hope they didn't get into any trouble."

He sat back in the boat and sighed, looking up at the partially cloudy sky.

Junior was following the signal of the radar. As he did, Shaira followed close behind. Their search lead them to a door finally. Junior tried to turn the handle on the door but the door wouldn't budge.

Stuck!

"Junior?" Shaira went.

Junior turned around to Shaira.

"According to the radar, the dragon ball is in this room. But the door is a little tightly shut."

He looked at the door.

I can open it myself but if I do, Shaira will...

"Maybe if we try together, we can open it." She said.

Junior put a grin on his face. It was precisely the chance he was looking for. He grabbed one end of the round handle.

"Grab the other end and when I give the signal pull!"

Shaira gave a nod and then grabbed the rim of the handle. She gave Junior the "Ready" look.

"Alright go!"

Junior and Shaira began to try turning the handle. Shaira was giving everything she had.

"Urrrgh! It's....not...budging!" She said.

"Don't give up! We can do this!" Junior said.

Shaira's eyes shut tight as she tried to turn the handle with Junior. Junior saw this as his chance and began to put in extra strength. The handle suddenly began turn slowly.

"It's working Shaira! Keep going!" he said.

Soon the handle began to turn easier and Junior could ease up on his strength. The door soon opened up and the two could see a desk inside the room. The dragon ball was seated up on the table against the lamp that was knocked over. Shaira's eyes glistened with excitement as she saw it. The two approached the shiny dragon ball. The 6 stars displayed on the ball glimmered at that moment.

"We found it!" Shaira shouted.

She wrapped her arms around Junior and hugged him tightly. Junior felt his heart stop a moment. That moment where Shaira held him, he felt something. His arms inched over until he could hold Shaira back. For that moment, he was happy and so was she. Shaira then let go suddenly and took the ball into her grip.

"Let's get back up the boat with this." She said.

That was something Junior easily was able to agree with. Their face masks went back on and the two made their way out of the ship the same way they came in. There was a bit of disappointment in not being able to explore the whole ship but this was an important mission to complete. Shaira stopped and looked at the ship one more time. In that moment, Junior took her by the hand and silently promised they would come back and explore the ship next time. The hole they used to enter the cavern was in front of them and they swam through to get to the ocean floor.

They two exited the hole in the floor and could see the surface of the water above. But as they made their way up, a harpoon shot by Shaira's face, just missing her and lodging itself into the floor. They looked over in the direction it came from only to discover to their dismay that Jack was floating there with a harpoon gun aimed at them.

What!? Shaira though.

Junior scowled. Jack!

Jack loaded another harpoon. Shaira was given the dragon ball to hold by Junior. He instructed her to head for the surface. Immediately she started swimming up. Jack went after her, taking aim with the harpoon gun. Junior swam up and grabbed Jack by the leg thrusting him down at the ocean floor. He pulled the trigger of the gun on reflex and a harpoon grazed Junior's left arm. His yell was muffled by the water. Shaira turned and saw he had been hurt. She became worried but Junior insisted she keep going. She continued her ascent to the boat while Junior lowered himself down to the ocean water.

It all makes sense now! You knew about the dragon ball down there but this hole was too small for you to swim through. So you waited for Shaira and me to go down and get it so you could take it from us. Got news for you though! It ain't happening.

Junior put his right hand over the wound he'd just been given. Jack took another harpoon and loaded it into the gun. Junior proceeded to swim off in the other direction, hoping Jack would follow. Jack swam after Junior taking aim with the gun. Junior turned to face Jack as he came. Junior opened his palms and placed them over his face. He shut his eyes at that moment.

SOLAR FLARE!!

Immediately a blinding light was unleashed. Jack's eyes swallowed up the light and he was blinded. This gave Junior his chance to head for the surface. Lex was about to nap in the boat when he heard a splash over the side of the boat. He looked over the edge to see Shaira there.

"Shaira! Where's Junior?" He asked.

"Start the engine, Lex! Hurry! The guy who sold us the boat is down in the water trying to kill us." she said.

"What!?" Lex exclaimed.

Suddenly Junior's head popped up above water.

"Junior! What's going on?" shouted Lex.

"I'll explain later. Get us on the boat quick!"

Junior was helped on first and then Shaira was pulled in by him and Lex. Junior went to the boat controls and started the engine. Immediately the boat pulled off in the water heading for shore.

"What do you mean, Jack's trying to kill us?" Lex asked.

"Not sure why but he's after the dragon balls too. He used us to retrieve the ball so he could take it. That's why he sold us the gear so eagerly!" Junior explained.

"That bastard!" Lex shouted.

Shaira was looking back and could see a boat speeding behind them some distance.

"Junior, he's after us!"

Lex and Junior looked behind to see Jack's boat picking up speed.

"This is bad. At this rate he'll catch us. What'll we do?"

Junior scowled as he looked ahead.

Quote:

"Promise me that no matter what, you'll protect Shaira and Lex from anything that might happen while you three are out there. If you can do that, I'll let you go."

His fathers words echoed in his head, remembering he made a promise to protect his friends, no matter what the case. That moment gave him a sense of duty. He turned to Lex.

"Take the controls, Lex. Get yourselves to shore."

Junior went for the side of the boat and looked over the side. He could see Jack's boat catching up. Junior dove over the side and into the water. Shaira looked at the water.

What are you planning, Junior?

Junior sunk down into the water and started swimming toward Jack's speeding boat.

I have a promise to keep! No matter what, I'll protect them. That's why....

Junior held a fist up in front of his face, revealing a glowing wrist band. Upon the surface. Jack's boat was closing in on Lex's boat.

"You kids are not going to escape with that Dragon Ball! Now prepare to lose it!"

Shaira's face showed fear. Lex growled in disgust as he couldn't speed the boat up any more. Suddenly, without warning a harpoon plunged through the floor of Jack's boat. Jack looked in shock.

"What!?"

The boat began to take on water and sink. Down in the water below, Junior was floating, in a wetsuit, holding a harpoon gun. He had shot the harpoon through the boat floor. Junior had a grin on his face. The boat sinking resulted in the boat slowing down.

"This can't be! How!?"

Shaira and Lex had a grin on their faces as they watched the boat sink. In the meantime, life guards had seen the boat sinking and were sending out the coast patrol for a rescue attempt.

Nice going Junior! Shaira said.

Some time later, they were on the beach watching Jack be carted off from a distance for fighting with officials.

"Well he won't be an issue. Our dragon ball is safe for now." Lex said.

"Yes but where's Junior?"

They watched the ocean waters move in and out with no sign of Junior. Shaira was beginning to fear the worst.

"Is he...?" She said.

"Don't even think that!" Lex went.

They continued to watch the water in concern. They were unaware of the person approaching behind.

"What are you two staring out there for?" came a voice.

They turned around to see Junior standing there in just his boxer shorts. Immediately the two ran up to him.

"Junior! You're safe!" Lex shouted.

Junior gave a frown.

"Why wouldn't I be safe?"

Shaira hugged him tightly and laughed.

"You smart ass! We were worried you had drowned." Lex said.

Junior just smirked at Lex and held Shaira in his arms. The two looked at her. They then changed their expressions when she stopped laughing. They then realized Shaira had fallen asleep there.

"I guess all the excitement tired her out." Lex said.

"Yeah..." replied Junior.

"You know, she really cares about you." Lex followed.

Junior just looked at her sleeping now in his arms. He said nothing and nodded. Then looking around, he realized the parking lot where the motorbike was parked was just in sight.

"I think I've had enough of the beach. Let's get out of here." Junior said.

"I hear you on that. Let's look at the dragon radar for the next closest dragon ball."

Lex looked at the radar, spotting a signal on the screen. Junior looked at the radar as well.

"Well that's convenient. From the looks of things the next dragon ball is located in Crash Town, about 90 miles from here." Junior said.

"Well let's get to it then!" Lex said.

Junior and Lex headed for the motorbike. Junior had Shaira in his arms.

"Hey, Junior, after you put her in the side cab, you should probably put your clothes back on." Lex said.

Junior just gave an awkward smile. Meanwhile, inside the county jail, Jack was sitting inside a cell. The sheriff came up to him and unlocked the cell door.

"You made bail!" he said.

Jack got up and left the cell only to find that his bailer to be Lt. Gold.

"I see I'm getting you out of trouble again, Captain Jack."

"I suppose so. But that's nothing compared to the trouble that's to come!"

There was a sinister look in Jack's eyes. As he began to contemplate his next plan of action, it was a sure thing they revolved around one person....Junior Hiiragi.
