Roshi's Trial

Bonus: +55 all stats, +8sp, +1 free Roshi taught technique

Available: Always

Requirement: Must have trained with Master Roshi for 2 weeks and must be under 15,000 PL.

Description:
Master Roshi has taken you under his wing. After training with him for awhile he gives you his trial. It will be an intense mental and physical gauntlet. Only his best students have survived!

Bardock's Technique: Kamehameha
Blizzard's Technique: Tsuihidan

"Break it up, you two!" Master Roshi said as he fired a Ki Blast on the ground between Bardock and Blizzard.

They immediately stopped exchanging blows, and separated. They had been fighting for a few days now, always before their training had begun for the day. They stood a few feet apart from each other, not breaking eye contact. Their respective auras, blue and green, were flaring until Master Roshi fired a pair of Ki Blasts. Each had landed near the feet of his students, who now had his full attention.

"You two have been fighting for days now. What's the bad blood between you both?", Master Roshi asked, eyeing both of his students.

"Nothing, Master. I should have known better. It's just a friendly competition. That's all," replied Bardock.

"Blizzard, what do you have to say for your actions?" asked the Master to the Changeling.

Blizzard remained silent.

"I'm not surprised you two have been fighting. But it stops today. Now," their Master said.

"Yes, Master. It won't happen again," replied Bardock.

Blizzard remained silent.

"Good. I have a test for the two of you. If you both pass this test, I will teach you any technique that you want," Master Roshi said with a grin.

"Any technique?" Bardock asked.

"Almost any. I can't teach you the greatest of my techniques quite yet, Bardock. As I said though, you first have to pass my test," Master Roshi said.

What's the test?" Blizzard asked with impatience.

"So you speak now, eh?" replied Master Roshi. "The test will be the toughest you both have undergone so far. That's why I'm rewarding you so greatly if you pass."

"We're ready for anything," Bardock said, and locked eyes with Blizzard once again.

It seemed to Bardock that Blizzard was just using Master Roshi to become strong enough to kill more people. After what happened back in the city, Bardock was keeping a close eye on him. Close enough that they fought as soon as they locked eyes. The Saiyan considered telling Master Roshi all about Blizzard's evil ways, but he would rather deal with the issue himself. That way, he would make sure no one else would get hurt. He just hoped that he didn't have to kill the Changeling.

"Alright, Bardock and Blizzard. Your test is..."

"...made up of three segments, first, you must both race to bring me an object of grave value." A ridiculous look of cunning passed across the old man's face.
"So boys, are you ready?" Blizzard and Bardock both nodded in turn.

"What!? That is absurd! I am of a royal bloodline! I will not run errands to fetch you new, 'reading', material!" Blizzard crossed his arms, letting out a vindictive sigh. The old master had requested that the two warriors race to shore, where a parcel was waiting for him. A copy of his favorite magazine.

"Well, I guess I will win the race then!" Bardock said, and gleefully took flight.
"Damn it, alright then." Blizzard shot off behind the Saiyan.

The Changeling had the advantage of speed, but due to his pride was now far behind Bardock. It would take all that he had to catch up. That was, of course, if he played fair. With a grunt, Blizzard threw his hands forward, releasing a Hokaku Kon Dan energy wave in mid-flight. With luck, the Imprisonment Sphere would trap Bardock.

The sphere travelled forward faster than both warriors were flying, Blizzard used his Ki to propel himself towards the hapless Saiyan. As the orb of energy flew towards it's target, Blizzard yelled to Bardock.
"Hey, wait up!" He tried to sound as if he were sincerely in distress, attempting to play on the sympathetic nature of his opponent. He had witnessed the Saiyan's soft-hearted reaction to his rampages at the movie studio, and knew that the warrior would most likely help anyone, even a cruel monster like Blizzard.

Bardock heard Blizzard's plea, shocked by the tone of actual need he caught within the evil creature's voice.

Now he had to choose, should he see what was happening behind him? Even looking back could cost him time, and he knew that Blizzard was faster. But if the monster actually were in distress, perhaps this would be a chance to instill the value of goodness into his rival's cold heart.

"Hey, wait up!"
, said Blizzard from behind Bardock as they raced toward their objective.

The Changeling sounded as if he were in trouble. This was a first. Never before had Blizzard even implied that he wanted Bardock to wait on him for any reason. It had to be a trick.

"What if he's just waiting on an opportunity to pass me? I know he's eager to learn as much as possible from Master Roshi, but then again, what if he's in serious trouble?", the Saiyan thought to himself.

Deciding that maybe he should see if Blizzard was in trouble, the Saiyn turned around to see where he was at. He was too slow to react and avoid the Imprisonment Sphere that enveloped him.

"I should have known that evil bastard would trick me," Bardock said as he was immobilized inside the sphere of Ki. "How could I let my guard down? Of all the times to do this, he does it now. He knows no end to his evil ways," he continued out loud. Though he was trapped in the sphere of Ki, he hoped that Blizzard had heard him before passing him to recover Master Roshi's magazine.

Bardock was not going to give up that easily. He Powered Up inside the Imprisonment Sphere, and fired a beam of Ki from his mouth. He hoped that his newly learned Mouth Blast technique was enough to break through the barrier. So far, it was weakening it. He paused to catch his breath, and fire another continuous Mouth Blast until he was finally freed from his imprisonment. He was freed, but he was too late. Blizzard had the magazine in hand, and was waving it at Bardock with a sinister grin on his face.

"I win this one, Saiyan," Blizzard said as he flew to Master Roshi's house to deliver the magazine.

Blizzard disappeared and gave Bardock a moment to reevaluate his plan to pass Master Roshi's test. Bardock was also thinking of a way to spot a mental weakness of Blizzard's to exploit and possibly show him the error of his ways. One way or another, Bardock was going to win the next part of the test.

"Well Blizzard, you have shown considerable speed and fortitude in retrieving the 'parcel'! However, this next test will see how cunning the two of you are!" Master Roshi smiled widely.

"Out with it, I haven't all day!" Blizzard said crossly. Bardock shook his head, he couldn't believe that this creature would show disrespect to his master.
"Now, now. Patience is going to be a virtue on this one Blizzard, so keep your focus sharp." Roshi waved his arms with a grand gesture.
"I have two arms, but fingers none. I have two feet, but cannot run. I carry well, but I have found, I carry best with my feet off the ground. What am I?"

"So, a riddle! Excellent!" Bardock was excited, he knew that Blizzard was far to impatient to actually spend time figuring the riddle out. He sat down in a cross-legged pose and began to contemplate, chin in hand, the answer to this conundrum.

Blizzard was outraged, he couldn't believe this juvenile excuse for a challenge.
"And how, exactly, does this make us better fighters!?"
A glimmer of sunlight passed across Roshi's sunglasses, he donned his most serious face,
"patience and cunning are a warrior's greatest strengths! Surely even you know that! A warrior outclassed in every other way may still win the fight through his wit alone!"

With a sigh of feigned exhaustion, the proud Changeling began to contemplate the riddle. He began to cycle through everything with two arms he could think of, his vast memory spilling out into the warrior's consciousness as he contemplated the hovering Voorwrath's of Frieza's wastes, or the Milidownths of Phraal, whose ability to fly off with their prey was legendary. Finally he had it figured out.
"The answer," Blizzard paused for dramatic effect, ushering the attention of both his master and his rival, "is the dreaded Gaublefish of Trycenae!"

"I have no idea what has two arms, no fingers, two feet, and carries better off the ground," Bardock said to himself.

He remembered having some success at riddles when he was with his Saiyan comrades on a ship to carry out their missions. He had even stumped a General of his on more than one occasion. But it has been so long since he had to think so hard to solve a riddle. This particular riddle was a tough one, since he wasn't from Earth. The answer to the riddle was probably an object only known on Earth. He had only been on the planet for a few weeks and had barely had the chance to familiarize himself with the many different customs, languages, cultures, and overall ways of the planet.

"I have two arms, but fingers none. I have two feet, but cannot run. I carry well, but I have found, I carry best with my feet off the ground. What am I? What the hell am I?" Bardock wondered.

As he sat on the ground in deep thought, he stole a glance at Blizzard. The Changeling seemed to be extremely frustrated. It only gave Bardock more time to come up with an answer to the riddle, which was fine with him. Then it hit him.

He heard Rosie's voice in his head. "Bardock, could you load the wheelbarrow with soil so I can plant these Senzu Beans, please?" she had asked him only a week ago.

"A wheelbarrow!" he thought.

Technically, it had arms and feet, meaning it's handles and wheels. Of course, he wasn't going to say his answer until he was sure that he was right. Many things on many objects on Earth had "arms" and "feet", but he wasn't sure if wheelbarrow was the answer Master Roshi was looking for.

As if a sign to give his answer, Blizzard had said dramatically,
Quote:

"The answer, is the dreaded Gaublefish of Trycenae!"

Master Roshi's expression was priceless. He turned beet red until he could no longer contain his laughter, which infuriated Blizzard. The Master laughed until his face went from red to purple, to blue. Finally, he caught his breath and said, "What's a 'Gaublefish of Trycenae'?"

Embarassed beyond belief, Blizzard slammed his tail on the ground and took flight. Bardock waited until Master Roshi looked to him for his turn to answer. Finally, the Master asked Bardock if he had an answer.

"Bardock, do you have an answer to my riddle?" he asked.

"Yes, I do. I think it's a wheelbarrow," Bardock said.

"Yes! A wheelbarrow! I'm impressed that you figured it out so quickly. You have passed the second test, Bardock. Congratulations," Master Roshi said as he looked up. He then called Blizzard down.

"Come down here. Don't be a sore loser. You should have learned two lessons since joining my class; patience and humility," Master Roshi scolded.

Blizzard descended, but didn't say a word. He just looked at his Master and rival, and waited for their next test.

Bardock was satisfied to win at least one of the three challenges. He was eager for the last one.

Blizzard was embarrassed, but he would never admit it.
"Alright old man, you have had your fun! What is the final challenge?" he spoke impatiently.

Master Roshi laughed in a wheezing tone.
"Wheelbarrow! Take these two wheelbarrows and head to this point," he gestured to a place just east of South City on his map.
"There, you will meet an old apprentice of mine, he will fill you out, or maybe up, on the task! Ehehehe."

Blizzard didn't like being given orders, but he would do as he was told this time around. He was slowly gaining an appreciation for Master Roshi's bizarre training methods.
"It takes humility to outsmart an opponent, hmm..." He thought to himself about the riddle, Roshi had given him chores with the wheelbarrow before, but Blizzard had not taken the time to think through that the object would be from Earth.

"Well, Bardock, I hope you are happy! This won't happen again, I assure you." Blizzard grabbed the wheelbarrow by its lip, and took off towards South City.

"That Blizzard, he is one of the strangest pupils I have ever taken in, I can't quite place it myself just why I accepted him as a student. There is a sense of destiny about him, that is for certain. I only hope his destiny will not be my mistake!" Roshi was looking out at the waves thoughtfully, contemplating his troublesome student.
"Well, Bardock, you better get going too, show that space-man what you are made of!"

Bardock lifted the wheelbarrow over his head, it was heavy, way heavier than the ones he had used before.
"Hey what gives with this wheelbarrow? It weighs a ton!" Roshi just smiled,
"That's because it is made from solid Osmium! The densest metal on Earth! Now go, or else Blizzard will have a cake-walk!"

Bardock gave one final glance at the Island before hefting the super-heavy wheelbarrow onto his back and lifting off into the sky.

Blizzard saw the farmer's field, it was a balefully bright patch of green set against the dark brown soil of the surrounding area. As he flew in close, Blizzard noticed a small pick-up sitting on the crushed stone pathway that ran along the side of the field. He landed within fifty feet of the vehicle and dropped the overweight wheelbarrow with a loud thud.

A squat man climbed from the truck, adjusting his glasses too get a better look at the creature standing before him.
"Well, Master Roshi will take on just about anyone crazy enough to train with him these days, won't he?" The man reached out his hand, "The names Korik, I run this here farm. What is your name boy?" Blizzard stared down at the outstretched hand, not sure what to do. He picked up the wheelbarrow with one hand and attempted to hand it to the man. Korik's eyes went wide as he saw the one ton wheelbarrow lifted with ease by the creature.
"Wow, where you from? They must grow 'em strong there!"

Blizzard chuckled, this man was even more naive than his master. He tossed the wheelbarrow a couple yards, where it crashed into the ground again.
"Tell me what this challenge is all about, I am in a bit of a hurry," he sneered. He was acting calm, but the Changeling knew that every second meant the difference between getting a head start on this next task.

Bardock
ADBZ's AoE OG
Bardock was ready for his next task, though he didn't expect it to be so...simple. All he had to do was deliver the heavy wheelbarrow to a farmer in South City. Of course, the idea of it was simple. The wheelbarrow was quite heavy for such a small object. Heaving it above his head, he took flight behind Blizzard. The Changeling was frustrated at his own lack of concetration and he wasn't hiding it. The green aura surrounding him as he flew became darker than it had ever been.

"He might be ahead of me physically, but I'm ahead of him mentally. Brains over brawn," Bardock thought.

He nearly lost sight of Blizzard when he took a split second look at birds flying past him. Blizzard had sped up, not wanting to lose his lead. When he landed, he dropped the wheelbarrow and approached the pick-up truck that was parked by the farm.

Bardock descended to the ground, gently placing the wheelbarrow in front of him. He was going to be patient during this last test, knowing that Blizzard had a short fuse. He hoped that it would play out to his advantage. Only time would tell. When he walked toward the farmer and Blizzard, he heard the man speak.

, the farmer said as he stretched a hand out to greet Blizzard.

Bardock knew it was a Human gesture that meant many things. In this case, it might have meant, "nice to meet you". Blizzard looked down at the farmer's hand and picked up the wheelbarrow with one hand. He seemed to have interpreted it as "hand me the wheelbarrow" instead of the greeting it really was.

The farmer's eyes widened at Blizzard's physical strength and he said,
Quote:

"Wow, where you from? They must grow 'em strong there!"

To which Blizzard replied,
Quote:

"Tell me what this challenge is all about, I am in a bit of a hurry,"

"Easy now. We'll get to that. We'll wait for your partner first", the farmer said with his southern drawl accent.

"Partner? I have no partner, I have an opponent! I'm in a competition, you imbecile!" Blizzard said with fury.

"Then we'll wait for your 'opponent'," the farmer replied sarcastically as Bardock walked up to him.

Bardock looked at the farmer, then at Blizzard, who was glowing with anger. Bardock ignored him, and shook the farmer's hand. When Blizzard saw the real reason for a Human to introduce himself with an outstretched hand, it only made him all the more embarassed and furious. Humility and impatience seemed to be a constant issue with Blizzard.

"My name is Bardock. It's nice to meet a former apprentice of Master Roshi's," he said to the farmer.

He stole a quick glance at Blizzard, and saw him spit on the ground in disgust at such a display of courtesy. In all honesty, if it had not been for Rosie, Bardock would have probably tried to hand the farmer the wheelbarrow as Blizzard did. This was just one more thing to thank Rosie for when he got home.

"The name's Korik," the farmer repeated. "So, you're the nice one," he joked.

"I guess so," responded Bardock with a smirk.

"Alrighty then, folks. Let the final trial begin!" Korik said.

"Finally," Blizzard said impatiently.

"Anyway, you both have to fill your wheelbarrows up with the Sensu Beans that you see planted throughout my farm. The owner of the heaviest load of Sensu Beans will be the winner. Any questions?" Korik said and looked at each of Master Roshi's new students.

Both Bardock and Blizzard shook their heads.

"Before you begin, there is a catch. Not a single Sensu Bean can get damaged. Not one. Not on the ground or in the wheelbarrow. Understood?" he continued.

"Let's just get this over with. I don't have all day," Blizzard said.

"Let's do it," replied Bardock.

"On my mark," Korik said. "Get set".

Both warriors grabbed their wheelbarrows and faced the entrance to the farm.

"GO!" yelled Korik.

Blizzard raced towards the open gate leading to the sensu field. He was sure to win this competition, having both speed and strength on his side.
"This shouldn't be too hard, just picking beans. I don't see how someone could die doin... oh shit." The bean stalks were each over twenty feet high, with sensu beans nearly as big as a medium dog hanging from each vine. Blizzard stood slack-jawed for a moment.

"Wow, big beans, huh?" Bardock said, a look of stupefied amazement pasted across his face.
"For once, I have to agree with you..." Blizzard shook his head, regaining his composure, he was here to win this thing.

Wheelbarrows in hand, the two fighters rushed towards the nearest stalk. Blizzard flew straight up into the air and began to pull one of the beans from it's stem. It was heavy, ridiculously so. As soon as the giant fruit came free, it began to pull Blizzard back down to earth.

Bardock was having similar problems, He had gotten one bean into his wheelbarrow, but with his second bean the wheelbarrow became off-kilter, tipping over and spilling out it's contents. The thunderous crash of the two beans rolling across the earth resounded through the field.
"Haha, keep trying! Whoops!" Blizzard dropped the bean he was hauling, he flew as fast as he could to try and catch it, positioning himself underneath the massive legume just quickly enough to break it's fall. The impact would have killed a normal human.

An hour had passed, and the two warriors had each only managed to get three beans into the wheelbarrows. Each wheelbarrow was big enough to easily accommodate three times that much, but with their incredible weight that seemed a life-time away for the two rivals. Blizzard was confident, however, in his superior strength and stamina. He knew that it would only be a matter of time before Bardock would get tired, and from their time sparring, Blizzard knew that he could outlast the Saiyan.

Korik laughed to himself, every time Roshi sent someone over to go through the training they thought it was just going to be picking beans. Korik was famed across the planet for the size of his Sensu. Although the beans were practically useless in comparison to the healing properties of normal Sensu beans, their was quite a following world-wide with the art of growing truly massive Sensu beans for decorative or craft purposes. Everything on his farm: carts, wagons, sheds, even the old farmer's house, were constructed from the dried bean husks.

Bardock
ADBZ's AoE OG
Bardock could handle things that many people on Earth couldn't handle. He could assist in the complete obliteration of civilzations and planets, he could go to war and come back without a scratch, and he could fly almost as fast as a Saiyan Space Pod. But he had all the trouble in the Universe carrying an exceptionally large bean. A bean!

Bardock laughed at himself and Blizzard, because they both had the same problem. He had already nearly crushed himself when a sensu bean had tipped his wheelbarrow over. That was the second bean he had managed to haul. The first one was difficult to carry into the wheelbarrow, so having the second bean tip it over made it all worse.

Blizzard laughed at him, and dropped his own bean. Before it crashed into the ground, Blizzard quickly descended under it. He caught it, but it looked to have been tough to keep from getting crushed. Bardock walked over to Blizzard as he lay under the bean, and asked, "Need a hand?"

To which Blizzard replied, "Get away, Saiyan. I can...do this...myself," as he tried to lift himself with his Ki.

Bardock thought of leaving the Changeling alone, just so he could get ahead in Master Roshi's Trial. He thought twice, realizing that if he played as dirty as Blizzard, then he would be no different than him. He thought that it was the perfect opportunity to teach Blizzard another lesson in humility. Bardock shoved the bean off of him, and bent down with an outstretched hand to help him up.

"Get away from me! I didn't need your help. I would have gotten it off of me on my own," Blizzard said, ignoring Bardock's hand.

"Too much pride will only hurt you," replied Bardock.

"Hmph!", snorted Blizzard as he struggled to get the bean in his wheelbarrow.

"Take it from a Saiyan," Bardock continued before tending to his own beans.

He hoped that Blizzard would learn the lesson before it got him killed one day. After many hours of picking only three beans each, Bardock and Blizzard were both exhausted. They had worked up quite a sweat, and they were in a tie in bean count. Bardock hoped that his beans weighed more than Blizzard's. He would have to continue picking beans, and worry about the result of the trial when it was all over. Only time would tell.

With the strain of the work finally setting in, Blizzard was forced to power-up to his full strength. He couldn't believe that a simple bean had forced so much strain out of him.
"Time is running short, and it appears that me and the monkey are even. I was hoping to avoid this, but I guess now is the time for real action," Blizzard thought to himself.

With his Ki at it's maximum, his aura erupted in a sunburst. Green light was shed across the field as he began to transform. There was a bright blast of blinding light as Blizzard rose from the ground in his new state, standing at double his old height of four feet. He flexed his muscles briefly, attuning himself to the new power they possessed, before returning to his task with more vigor than ever.

Bardock wasn't surprised by this transformation, he had seen it before, but this time it actually concerned him. He knew that this test was all about strength, and with Blizzard's new form he was stronger than ever. It almost seemed pointless, but Bardock pushed even harder to get his wheelbarrow filled. He began to fly back up towards the top of the vine, up to the last bean on the stalk.
"Make way!" Blizzard's giant hand slammed over Bardock's face, shoving him down and giving the giant Changeling a boost upwards. He reached the massive bean first, and, with a side chop, detached it from its vine.

The bean fell at break neck speeds, Bardock narrowly avoided being crushed. As he looked down, appalled by the audacity of his opponent. The bean was sure to crash into the ground. In a blur of movement, Blizzard appeared below the falling legume, and snatched it from the air.

Fifteen minutes later, and Blizzard had managed to stack ten of the huge beans into his already heavy wheelbarrow. Bardock was struggling to keep up, but he had only managed a total six beans.

CLANG!

"Alright, that's time! Okay, let's see who has the most!" Korik eyed each wheelbarrow, it was apparent who had won this competition.
"Well, you both tried very hard, but Blizzard has definitely filled more into his wheelbarrow. I suggest the two of you return to Master Roshi, I am sure he wants to see both of you."

"Well boys, you both exhibited incredible feats of speed, intellect, and intelligence. Blizzard, you won two of the three challenges, but you failed to understand that humility was the key of this lesson. It didn't matter who won, you could have made it much easier on yourself if you would have just been more sympathetic." Roshi grinned.
"You both are winners of this Trial, and as reward, both of you may request to learn one of my most guarded secrets... I only hope that this lesson sinks in. It is better to help your rival than hurt yourself."

The End
