It started out as the usually unusual day for Bardock. Ever since landing on Earth, his days consisted of waking up, eating, physical therapy, working on his damaged ship, and sneaking away from the hospital to train under Master Roshi. The old Master was definitely eccentric, but he knew what he was doing. Even with the mundane tasks of cleaning around the island, flying to and from West City for various items, and catching fish bare handed, Master Roshi knew what he was doing. He kept all of his students on their toes. For some reason, Master Roshi had treated him different from the rest of his students. The Saiyan had asked to be treated like everyone else. So what if he had crash landed on Earth, nearly dead. So what if he had to learn how to do many things all over again. This included but wasn't limited to, learning how to fly and channeling his Ki. And so what if his son was Goku, a former student of Master Roshi's. If it weren't for the Earth hospital's staff and Master Roshi, the once great Saiyan warrior would be nothing more than a shell of his former self. Though he could barely remember who his “former self” was. He remembered a brutal war going on all over Vegeta, though he didn’t know against who or what. He barely remembered escaping. He remembered that he wasn’t alone when he escaped, There were three others with him. What were there names? Where are they? Did they survive the trip to Earth? All of these questions ran through his mind daily. He couldn’t remember if he had a family besides his two sons, Raditz and Goku. He couldn’t remember if there was a woman waiting for him on Vegeta, though that much didn’t matter. He had someone else in his life now. Rosie, the Earth woman who had found him. The Earth woman who had given him a reason to continue to live. She had found him nearly naked and trying to crawl out of the damaged Saiyan War Ship that might have been given to him by King Vegeta. She was the best thing to happen to him since joining the Saiyan Army. She was beautiful, kind, and generous. Her olive skin, bright brown eyes, and long, brunette hair made her a sight to behold. She also happened to be a nurse. Bardock wasn't one who believed in "true love", but with Rosie, he second guessed himself every single day. A Saiyan with these emotions… I’m getting soft… He wasn't sure how he got it, but it didn't matter. He would fix it and travel with Rosie around the Universe. He would stay on Earth for as long as he had to in order to make sure he and Rosie had everything they needed before they left. Though he would eventually leave Earth, he wouldn’t hesitate to defend it with his every breath... ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ "Get up, Bardock," he heard Rosie call from the bathroom. "Getting up," the Saiyan said, getting up and stretching. "You have to hurry up and get dressed. You have physical therapy in an hour," she reminded him. "Yes, ma'am," he joked. He looked at the clock. It read 4:30 AM. Early. "Don't call me that! You make me sound old," she scolded him. "Just kidding, Angel," he said as he walked to her lazily and kissed her on the forehead. He watched T.V. when he had the time, and was becoming familiar with the various religions of Earth. He thought that calling Rosie an “angel” seemed quite appropriate. She did afterall save him. "You better be," she said as she pulled away from his embrace and handed him his clothes. She was always prepared. He got dressed quickly. He now had a simple Earthling look; black sweatpants, a white t-shirt, and black and white sneakers. He was not used to such a look. He was used to full Saiyan battle gear. Whatever he wore on his way to Earth was in ruins. He was nearly naked on arrival. Rosie had done quick clothes shopping for him, getting what little she could afford at the time. "I'm leaving," he told her. "Have fun," she joked. He ignored her playful comment and focused on what trials lay ahead for him. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ He walked outside and looked around at his new home that was a mansion compared to the housing on Vegeta. Then there was the outside of the house. The grass was green. Greener than he had ever seen. The various birds were flying all around without being snatched by bigger birds, and people were talking with one another without it causing a riot. It was nothing like what Bardock was used to. He had to admit, an aggressive environment is what helped a Saiyan stay strong both mentally and physically. I’m getting way too soft… Shaking off his thoughts of his home planet, he powered up and took flight. It wasn’t a long trip to the clinic, but he enjoyed flying. It made him feel as if he was regaining the strength he knew he had. It was hard to believe how far back he had gone in Power Level. He guessed himself to be at approximately one-quarter of his former power. He would have to continue to rehabilitate himself before he deemed himself ready for intergalactic travel. Almost there… After several minutes of soaring in the sky, the clinic was in sight below. Bardock was ready for what lay ahead. There was a great team of doctors, nurses, and therapists at the clinic ready to work with him even though they all knew that he had partial amnesia. It concerned them because if he had come to Earth to cause harm, his memory could come flooding back to him and the result would be devastating. He was certain that he wasn’t on Earth to take it over. If that was the case, he would have many brave warriors to go through first. He was nowhere close to the strength of even the weakest of Earth’s defenders. He would show them that he meant no harm. So far, three people had put enough trust in him to help him heal. Master Roshi, Rosie, and Jay. Jay was the physical therapist who made sure that he was going in the right direction. He took to the ground and walked inside the clinic. The clinic staff were too busy to notice his arrival, which was fine with him. He proceeded down the eastern hall, and entered the Physical Therapy Wing. There, he saw Jay waiting for him, looking at his watch and back to Bardock, grinning. "You’re early again. Now, let’s get into some stretches," said Jay. “Let’s do it,” Bardock replied and went through his routine stretches. After stretching, he shook his arms and legs to loosen them up, and stretched his neck last. The popping sounds from his neck made everyone in the P.T. room visibly cringe. “That’s disgusting,” said Jay. "Here it goes," said Bardock in response and smirked. He counted out loud as he did them. "...one hundred and ninety eight, one hundred and ninety nine, two hundred!" he said, then stopped to breathe. "You're making progress, Bardock. Pretty soon, you won't need me," Jay said, obviously proud of Bardock. "Let's not get ahead of ourselves now, Jay," the Saiyan lied. Bardock was making progress, but not as fast as he should be. He was supposed to be near tip-top shape by now. Bardock, the Saiyan Warrior was supposed to heal much faster than he was. On top of that, he knew that when he finally reached a certain level of progress, there was nothing more Jay could do to help him. Of course, Bardock would never tell that to Jay because he was trying his best. "Give yourself credit, Bardock. When I first laid eyes on you, I didn't think you would be able to do a single push up", Jay reminded him. "Well, that's true. It's all thanks to you", Barock complimented. "Aw, shucks", Jay replied with sarcasm. "Okay, enough jokes. Time to work", Bardock said as he went to lay on the floor of the P.T. room to do crunches. "One thousand ninety-eight, one thousand ninety-nine, eleven hundred!" he counted as he lay on the floor, too tired to get up. Finally, he got up and realized that he had taken a short nap on the floor and Jay was gone. Oh, well. Now I can find an empty room and take a real nap... ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ WC= 1,449 |

Later that day, Bardock was napping on an unused hospital bed. He was startled by screams and the sound of explosions from outside. It wasn't too near, or too far. He got up and quickly went through his stretching routine. He had no plans of going to investigate anything without being as physically prepared as he could be under his circumstances. "I hope these small-time criminals aren't doing too much damage," Bardock said aloud as he got up and looked out of the window. There were no small-time criminals in sight. Only, death and destruction. Men, women and children were screaming as they ran toward the hospital he was in. Bardock exited the room and hurried downstairs. There was no time to wait for the elevator. There, he saw children surround nurses and doctors who looked completely overwhelmed. "Please help us!" a woman said, obviusly shaken from whatever was happening outside. "My mom and dad are still out there!" a small boy said to a nurse. He wept and sat on the floor. "Everyone, please calm down. Ma'am, tell me what's going on," a doctor said to the shaken woman. More and more people crowded the hospital lobby. "Out...there...people are...dying!" she tried to explain. She just kept crying, completely inconsolable. "How?" Bardock joined in, approaching the mass of people. "Sir, there was a man with long hair and a tail flying through the air and killing people!" a little girl told him. She looked at Bardock and noticed he also had a tail. "Like you!", the little girl said, backing away into the crowd. "Relax, little one. I'm not like him. This planet is my home and I'll do anything to protect it. Just show me where this bad guys is," he told her. He tried his best to sound reassuring. "Well, um, okay. Can you save us? You look strong. But not as strong as my dad, though", the little girl replied, coming forward. "I'll do my very best", the Saiyan replied and smiled. "The flying man is just killing everyone! He is really big, with long hair like a girl and he's coming this way," she told him. "Okay, thanks, little one. I'll take care of him," he reassured her. Facing the crowd, Bardock looked each of them in the eye and saw both desperation and hope. Hope, that a Saiyan would kill a Saiyan to protect Earth. Bardock would not let these people down. He wouldn't let Earth down. "Listen up," he addressed the crowd that now consisted of injured men, women, children, nurses and doctors. Everyone was hanging on his every word. "I am going to do what I can to get rid of the person who is destroying our planet. Yes, 'our' planet. This is my home now. I will do anything necessary to keep you all safe. What I need from you all is to stay out of harm's way. Harm's way is wherever I am," he told them with conviction. He continued, "I need all of the doctors and nurses here to do their best to tend to the wounded. I know there are many of you who need your wounds looked at, but please be patient. There are more of you than there are resources and doctors. They will get to each of you when they can." He told them this as he looked at the doctors and nurses for confirmation. They all nodded. "There will be more fighting to come. I'm sure that you all do not want to be around for it. I will do my best to keep him from coming into this hospital. Everyone that isn't being seen by a doctor at the moment can help keep the children busy. They are scared, so keep their minds on anything but what's happening outside," he said, looking at the men in particular. They nodded in response. "Don't worry, I don't need directions. I'll follow the mess," he said as he walked through the crowd of scared people. They looked at him with an apparent mix of fear and admiration. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ As he walked outside, more and more people flocked to the hospital. He looked back and saw the men come out and help anyone that was injured get inside. The Saiyan knew he was doing the right thing. Even though he wasn't born on this planet, he felt as if he owed the people something for treating him as one of their own. He would die before he allowed anyone to hurt these people. Especially Saiyans. He knew what Saiyans were capable of. Judging by the burning cars and buildings, whoever was doing it was just warming up. It was child's play to a Saiyan. He was probably just toying with the weak humans. He could only imagine... Bardock was just staring at the burning cars and buildings when an idea hit him like a ton of bricks. He knew what he was going to do. He wouldn't throw himself into battle unprepared. He saw that the destruction around him didn't originate at it's current location. It seems to have come from a couple miles before the clinic...closer to his home. "Rosie!", he said as he powered up and took to the sky. The thought of losing Rosie was too much. The aura surrounding him flickered on and off. First, it was a deep blue. Then, it turned into a blue-white combination. He couldn't help but think it was too late. He was determined to find her. He only hoped he wasn't too late. He flew as fast as he could toward his home. He passed more helpless Earthlings, but wasted no time in trying to help them. They were headed toward the hospital anyway. He felt bad for not helping them, but Rosie was all he could think of. "If she's hurt, I'll kill every Saiyan I lay eyes on", he told himself. As he got closer to his home, he saw his ship. Somehow, it looked to be in the same shape he left it. He saw his home next. It was in ruins. "ROSIE!!!!", the crazed Saiyan yelled. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ WC= 1,449 + 1,026 = 2,475 |
