A gangwar has broken out in West City. To avoid pandemonium, the Mayor has declared that anyone who is able to stop the war with as few casualties as possible, including to gang members, will be rewarded a large sum of money! But beware. Some of these gangs consist of super-powered aliens and they won't be easy to defeat.

Participants: Bojack and Diive

----------------------------------------------------

Diive flipped the channels on the television one by one, not finding anything worth watching. On Roshi’s tiny island there were very few things a warrior could do to entertain himself besides training, so when the sun went down it was common to find the students huddled around the television.

The Saiyan heard Bojack grunt as a program called “Deadliest Warrior” came into focus, and he set the clicker down between himself and the alien. Diive and blue alien were the strongest of the students currently on the island, and so commanded the most comfortable seating as well as control of the television. The two of them were a ridiculous sight on the couch, taking up the whole thing, their combined mass making the furniture seem miniature beneath them.

Diive reached for his beer, making the couch creak and moan as his weight shifted. He took a large gulp and belched before setting his beverage back down on the end table next to him. The big Saiyan was sedate, his belly full of barley and hops, his head swimming slightly. He heard the clink of Bojack’s beer hitting the table on the opposite side of the couch before the alien belched in a near perfect imitation of Diive.

As the television announced that the “Comanche” was the Deadliest Warrior, Diive and Bojack simultaneously erupted into laughter. These humans had some pretty silly ideas, most of which they made television shows about, and Diive had found himself bonding with the alien during these nightly drinking sessions over the hilarity.

“One of these nights, I’m going to die laughing,” Diive said with a slight slur, wiping away a tear as his mirth subsided.

The sound of someone coming down from upstairs drew Diive’s attention, and soon Master Roshi came strolling down the stairs. Humming a tune with hands behind his back, the old hermit took leisurely strides toward the kitchen. Even though the sun had been down several hours, the Master was still wearing his shaded glasses.

Diive heard the refrigerator open, followed by a cry of anguish.

“My beer!” Roshi said, running into the living room with fists clenched and back hunched. “You two drank all my beer again!”

The Saiyan and alien shared a look before erupting into another fit of laughter.

“Laugh it up!” Roshi raged, shaking a fist at the both of them. “You can laugh yourselves right out of this house and buy more beer, or your training is over!”

“Buy?” Diive asked, his eyebrows lifting in surprise. “I don’t have any zeni," he said, looking at Bojack. The alien shook his head and shrugged.

“No?” Roshi said with a cackle. “To bad! No beer, no training… so you better figure something out. By this time tomorrow, I expect to have a cold one in my hand… or you’re both out!”

The hermit stormed off upstairs while grumbling. Diive and Bojack looked at each other again. The Saiyan went to take another drink of his beer and frowned as he realized it was empty.

“Well, I guess we’re boned,” Diive said, using a phrase he had heard from a foul-mouthed robot on an animated program.

The words had barely left Diive’s lips when the television program was interrupted with a news broadcast.

“Attention! West City has broken out in a gang war! Rival gangs are destroying the city and each other. It has been documented that many of the fighters are aliens with strange powers, and the police are at their mercy. The mayor of West City has offered a large reward for anyone who can end the aggression with as little loss of life as possible…”

Diive stopped listening and turned to the alien next to him with a sly grin. “Are you thinking what I’m thinking, Bojack?”

“I think so Diive, but then it’d be called Snow White and the Seven Samurai.” Bojack told Diive with a small chuckle mimicking a cartoon about lab mice they had seen on the tv the previous morning.

“Oh, you mean about stopping the gang war to get money to buy Roshi and us more beer while having fun busting heads. Yeah I was thinking that too. That lack of casualties stipulation though…can’t we just vaporize the bodies and pretend there was no death?” Bojack said rolling his eyes toward the ceiling in thought. After a moment Bojack shrugged and stood up from the sofa looking down toward Diive.

“Perhaps we should have a side wager going. Most gang members stopped wins, with penalties for deaths.” Bojack said picking up the tv remote and switching it off.

“Then we’ll know who’s the… Deadliest Warrior.” Bojack commented laughing afterwards. He turned after saying this and headed out the front door. Once on the beach Bojack glanced left, then right and paused a moment. He reached into his pocket and removed a familiar cylindrical item hitting a button and bringing it toward his mouth.

“Kerntz here.” A voice came from the item Bojack was holding.

“Kerntz, use the view screens on the Perfect Bloodlust to monitor Diive and myself and keep track of how many opponents we beat and how many we kill. I’ll call later for the exact figures.” Bojack spoke into the cylinder flashing a grin to Diive.
“Yes sir. Not a problem.” Kerntz’s reply came as Bojack stuck the item back into his pocket.

“Now, which way is West City.” He commented to himself before giving a small chuckle as his ki flared up around him. Bending his knees Bojack crouched down slightly before leaping into the air and flying upward a couple dozen feet before shooting off to the west leaving a trail of ki behind him. As he flew Bojack allowed his thoughts to drift elsewhere, after all it would take him a few minutes to get to his destination.

Diive held a hand to his brow to shade the sun as he watched Bojack fade into the distance.

A duel, he thought. To the… non-death…

He squinted into the distance. This wouldn’t be easy. Killing was Diive’s business, and even though business had been slow recently, he knew that holding back would be difficult at best.

Diive blasted off, his aura streaming behind him as he raced to catch up with Bojack. He could feel the alien ahead of him, and Diive marveled again at the ability to feel energy signatures.

Roshi is a sick, sick old man… and he’s bat shit crazy… but the things he teaches are invaluable, Diive thought, zipping along the trail that was obvious to his senses.

Time passed as the Saiyan flew, and eventually West City came into view in the distance. Large areas of the city were burning. A cloud of smoke hung over the city with the orange glow of flames filling the night sky.

Diive could sense energy signatures, some quite formidable, as well as the use of Ki attacks. The news wasn’t kidding… some of these gang members are actually worthy opponents, he thought.

The Saiyan flew in towards where the fighting was hottest and touched down amidst the battle. Diive had lost sight of Bojack in the smoke, but he could sense that the Alien was still somewhere near. Down the wide city street from him, an alien with purple skin and an elongated head had its back to him and was firing blasts of Ki wildly in the opposite direction. Return blasts were coming from within the concealing smoke some distance down from them.

Diive strolled up behind the fellow, careful to avoid any blasts that came near. He watched over his shoulder for a short time, and then shook his head.

“What you shooting at?” Diive asked suddenly, loud enough to be heard over the din of fighting.

The alien was startled, jumping with a yelp. The purple warrior gave him a nasty look and grimaced. “The leader of the Vaout is down there somewhere, and I’m going to kill him. You could be next, now scram!” he said and turned back to the fighting.

“And what gang are you fighting for?” Diive asked, but as the alien started to turn around with an answer the Saiyan interrupted him. “It doesn’t really matter, I suppose.”

Diive drove his fist hard into the creatures temple and it folded like a lawn chair.

Aw crap! he thought. Did I kill it?

He couldn’t tell.

Well, he was pretty weak… maybe the guys up ahead won’t die so damn easily, he thought as he began walking towards some stronger energy signatures.

Bojack flew as quickly as he could toward West City. Passing through several plumes of smoke he dropped straight down to the ground in front of a large alien that seemed to have no neck and way more muscles then any one being needed.

“I don’t recognize you. Are you Vaout or Zeladur?” The large creature asked in a grunting voice.

“Really? Those are the names you guys came up with? Whatever, I’m not with either, I’m just here to stop you guys from trashing the place and get paid.” Bojack stated simply while giving a slight yawn.

“Then I guess I just have to crush you.” The creature said before charging toward Bojack.

Let’s see if this old man’s technique works. Bojack thought to himself as he lowered to an almost crouching position.

“Illusion Wolf.” He mumbled to himself before pushing off toward his opponent and running as quickly as he could. A quick glance to the right with his eyes proved the technique was working as he saw himself running along side of him. With a small grin Bojack slowed down slightly, allowing the illusion to inch ahead and reach his opponent moments before him. His opponent fell for it completely swinging at the illusion with all his might. His fist passed through the illusion without any resistance, the momentum of the swing causing the creature to be sent off balance and spin around slightly. Bojack took the opportunity to slam his fist into the back of the creature’s neck. The creature promptly crumpled to the ground and Bojack rolled him over with his foot staring down at him.

“Hope you didn’t like walking, you’re never going to do it again. Frankly I’ll be surprised if you even ever stop being a complete vegetable.” Bojack said before calming walking away from his fallen opponent in the direction of the sounds of ki blast explosions.

Well, that’s one, hopefully Diive is having about as much luck as I am so far. Bojack thought to himself as he began running.

Bojack ran toward the sounds of explosions, it seemed like as good a place as any to find opponents. Turning the corner he almost ran over a human that couldn’t have been more than 4 feet tall.

“You should be careful where you stand little man. Don’t you know it’s dangerous to be here right now?” Bojack asked looking down at the human.

“Little…man? Little man?!” The human yelled at Bojack obviously being sensitive about his size. The next moment he vanished from sight appearing behind Bojack and kicking him in the back before vanishing again. This time appearing in front of Bojack the human landed several punches to his chest before vanishing once more.

This bastard is fast. He’s not terribly strong, but with his size and speed he’s a hell of a target. Bojack thought to himself as he rubbed at his chest. He saw, out of the corner of his eye, the human appear once more and took a swing at him with his fist. The human vanished once more causing Bojack to do nothing more then put a hole in a wall.

“Alright, I’ve had enough of your game.” Bojack spoke calmly to the air before jumping up and flying into the air. Quickly he pointed both hands down held like guns and started firing rapid One Fingered Blasts over the whole area this human had been in. He continued doing so for at least three minutes before finally stopping and floating back down to the ground. As he expected the human was laying unconscious amongst a large pile of rubble.

“Teach you to mess with me.” Bojack mumbled before continuing down the street he was on. As he turned a corner he spotted several people down the street engaged in hand to hand combat. A grin spread across Bojack’s face as he saw this as a prime moment to pull ahead of Diive in their contest.

“Dodonpa!” He yelled as he snapped his left arm out firing a beam from the palm of his hand directly into the group of people. The resulting explosion sent them all flying against buildings and seemed to knock them all out.

Bojack walked through the streets of West City, there was a lot of smoking rubble, but the amount of combatants seemed to have dropped off. After wandering aimlessly for several minutes he pulled his familiar cylindrical communicator from his pocket.

“Kerntz. Can you find anybody left to fight in this ghost town?” Bojack asked into the cylinder while he continued to walk and look around for any gang members still conscious.

“I’m not seeing anybody on the screens sir. Either you and Diive took care of them all or they’re really good at hiding.” Kerntz’s voice came through the communicator after a couple of moments.

“Then we’re basically done here, good. What’s the current score between Diive and myself?” Bojack asked trying to see if he needed to take any drastic measures or not.

“You two are currently tied. “ Kerntz said looking at his screen that he had been keeping the tally on.

“Tied eh? Alright then, time to do some real digging to find some more of these punks.” Bojack said before putting his communicator away. Floating up just a few inches off the ground he started flying around through the parts of the city he hadn’t explored yet, looking for any gang member that was still causing trouble.

Bojack hovered around the town for what felt like hours to him, but in reality was probably just a few minutes. He didn’t think it was possible for any one activity to be as boring as this, but he was wrong. Searching for these people was like looking for a needle in a hay stack. He made up his mind, he would have to learn that Sense ability the old man was always going on about.

“That’s it, there’s no one left here. I’m outta here.” Bojack mumbled to himself as his ki flared up around him before launching into the air.

The last several hours had been grueling. Trying to incapacitate his opponents while keeping them alive was much harder than he had imagined, and he hadn’t been completely successful. Even worse, Diive couldn’t be sure if he had found the leader of either of the rag tag bands of hooligans during the fighting.

I’m not sensing any more fighting. Diive thought, holding his breath as he reached out with his sixth sense and probed for fighting power levels. We must have got them all.

No sooner had he completed the thought than he felt Bojack’s energy signature flare to life and begin moving rapidly away from the city.

He must have came to the same conclusion, he thought, and levitated slowly to a spot above the cityscape. Diive wondered how he was going to collect the bounty placed on the gangs. There didn’t seem to be any good way to prove that he and Bojack had been behind the rescue of West City. We’ll send them a bill, Diive decided, and we’ll come to collect if we need to.

It was a lazy solution to a strange problem, but Diive didn’t care at this point. He just wanted to get back to Roshi’s Island and have a beer.

The Saiyan’s eyes went wide with surprise as he sensed a surge of power. What the hell could that be?

The energy he was sensing was huge. He had felt Seta’s power on several occasions, and she never felt the need to suppress her energy. This… whatever it was… was much stronger. Diive had never imagined that anyone in the universe could possibly be stronger than Seta.

Diive blasted off towards Roshi’s Island. His good battle armor was there, as were his Sensu Beans. It was probably suicidal, but he had to know… he had to see for himself what was generating the energy signature.

Maybe Bojack will want to tag along… he thought, the air roaring past his ears as he sped towards the island.
