Title: Going Fishing Difficulty: Easy Description: A old and wise Namekian has grown ill and cannot fish for his family. His family will starve without him. He will pay you for the fish if you fish for one week for him. Reward: +400 zeni, +2 DP, +10 all stats, +2 Rp Credits Bonus: +100 zeni, +1 Alignment Available: Always ----- Two months. It had been two months since his crash, and subsequently almost that long since Aethos received his last transmission from Vegeta. As far as he knew, the Army suspected that his crash was worse than it actually was. It had taken him a few days to fix the minor problems with his mechanical parts, but once he stopped receiving transmissions from his homeworld he began to cannibalize the ship into a shelter and spare parts for himself. The cybernetic-enhanced Saiyan awoke suddenly, his internal clock reading 5:30am planetary time. As with his normal morning regime, Aethos left the small cave he had fashioned into his new home and began a jog down from the hillside to the plains, today was the day that he was going to be tasked with something for the village; his trustworthiness, and his skill, finally being put to the test. Eager as he was to prove how capable of helping the Namek with his abilities, he was even more eager to earn their trust, his hardware gave him an insatiable thirst for knowledge from everywhere. As he approached the small community, the cyber-Saiyan stopped, precisely on the line of where the Namek guard had always met him. As he scanned the skyline, watching for birds and aerial predators, Aethos felt air brush past his face as the Namekian warrior dropped from the sky in front of him. “Hello, Saiyan. It would appear that there is a small task that you must complete before our elders will meet with you.” Aethos' face tweaked to the side, interested in what the green man had to tell him about his task. “That sounds agreeable. What would the terms of this task be?” With that, the Namek fighter produced a small hand spear from his back. “Well that's where this is coming from...” He said, chuckling as he floated up and away, beckoning the Saiyandroid to follow before shooting off in a burst of blue energy. Silently, and with no celebration, Aethos shot into the air following after his new guide. In his heads up display the internal map came up, allowing him to plot a route back to his home, should he need it. |

Waist deep in water, holding the small spear just above the water, the tall man let out a grunt as he jabbed downward, stabbing towards the school of fish. The air erupted into a rainbow at the splashing and flailing as the Saiyan-Android hybrid slipped on the slippery rocks and fell face first into the river. The Namekian teenagers on the shore laughed and jeered at the foreigner. “Nice work, paley.” “Footwork needs work, give it a 7.5!” “Ahahaha, can't even do it in the shallows.” Aethos stood up calmly, his robotic face perfectly still in the absence of any emotion. Quirking his head to the side at the Namek youth, unfamiliar with what they were doing, even in his battle training he had not participated in this form of entertainment they seem to be fond of. Odd, another difference between these people and his own back on Vegeta. “Aethos, you have to remember that the light and water create a bit of a mirror effect, you need to aim differently than instinctively.” The Namekian warrior barked at the cyborg. With one rough, battle scarred hand the warrior grabbed the spear, pushing it down so that the tip was beneath the surface a few inches. “With it like this you can aim using the reflection, rather than trying to fight it.” Nodding once, Aethos saved this new information in his memory banks, surely it would be useful, if only while surface fishing. Not that he needed to eat, but he had heard of individuals doing such activities simply as a hobby. It seemed as enjoyable to him as any other regular activity. “Thank you. I shall try that.” He said matter-of-factly. With a blur of movement, the androids hand shot forward, then back, yanking a fish out of the water in a sudden movement. “Ah yes, this does seem to be a more efficient way of using this item.” The Saiyan-Android hybrid said nodding, expressionless, as he tossed the fish to the dumbstruck teenagers along the bank. “Now, how many of these fish did you say I am to catch?” |

It was truly calming to be submerged. Aethos of course had no need to breathe, and he was quite content to simply walk along the bottom of the lake, looking for larger fish, maybe even eels, to catch for the villages stores. The net he was to capture the fish in trailed behind, waving and moving ever so slightly as if a breeze were on it. Despite the calming nature of the silence in the water, Aethos was beginning to grow impatient. He had to fill this net and return it by the time the Namekians wished to have their dinner, if he was to earn their trust after all. Yet one lonely fish was all that he had managed to scare up in over an hour. Surely no where near enough for today's dinner, let alone the whole weeks worth of dinners. Though a time limit was given, the cyborg was not at all worried for it. Given twelve hours to catch two dozen “good sized fish”, as the Namekian put it was more than enough time. Not only that, but he was sure that once he found the right spot, this simple task would be finished in no time at all. And so, he leisurely cruised the waters, searching for a spot that he had seen before, a spot teeming with fish and even larger water life. Nearly an hour of trekking and Aethos could tell he was where he was searching for. Not only did his internal GPS tell him that he was at the same coordinates as before, albeit a couple dozen meters below, but a pair of large shimmering fish swam lazily by him, opening their mouth and devouring chunks out of the schools of smaller fish that congregated around the weeds at the bottom. “Perfect.” Aethos muttered, very few bubbles exiting his mouth. A point of light started to glow on the fingertips of the cyborg as he charged up a small blast, trying to kill the large predators without destroying their body too badly. The light grew and then lanced out, striking one of the pair of beasts just behind the gills, piercing through as the animal stopped moving, just drifting along its path. A small, mournful noise crossed the distance even underneath the water, heavily distorted. The mate of the dead fish circled it, nudging it with it's face as the limp creature began to float to the surface. Watching with a calculating eye, Aethos fired the blast from his other hand, killing the other one. Large enough to count for more than just one, but one to follow orders no matter what, he simply continued his ever serene walk, towards the bigger and bigger fish. |

A dozen of the predator fish were bobbing gently in the bay, belly up and each with a small hole through their necks where the android below had executed them. Unbeknownst to the Sayain Android hybrid below, larger sharks were beginning to close in on the dead prey, drawn by the scent of death in their territory. Back on the bottom of the bay Aethos was fairly confident that he was done. The large fish would suit quite well to the large meals that were planned, and he had managed to catch a few dozen smaller ones in his net along the way. He had heard of people drying meat to store it for later consumption, so these, he thought, would be ideal for smaller, travel sized meals. “Done. Now just to report back.” Aethos said aloud, using his Ki to float up from the bottom of the bay. Breaking the surface near a pair of his kills, he grabbed them by the tail and dragged them to the shore, returning for more as he beached the dead animals. With no warning, as he was dragging off the last pair of them, Aethos felt one jerk out of his hands suddenly. They read no lifesigns. The cyborg thought as he turned, hurling the remaining one to the shore. With a mighty splash and a sickening crack, a gigantic shark leapt from the water, catching and ripping the airborne fish in two before slamming back under the waters. “Well, this is not going to be good.” Aethos said flatly as he saw a dark shape rushing up from under the water towards him. As the warrior threw himself to the side, the shark tried to follow, but it's maneuver was too late and it snapped impotently at the flying fighter just out of its range. Cocking back his fist, Aethos slammed it into the top of the animals skull, sending it crashing back below the surface, only to shoot off towards the shore. It looked as if these animals had hunted sentient beings before, knowing that he would want to make it to shore. Unfortunately for Aethos, he could not simply fly away out of their reach, he still had to recover the net full of the smaller fish from the bottom, having secured it to a rock down there. With a mechanical sigh, the cyborg dropped straight down into the water, drawing the small spear the Namekian had given to him earlier. At least this thing would come in use for something... |

Even with his enhanced vision, Aethos could barely see ten meters out from himself, anything past that was a muddled blur. As one of the dark spots rushed towards him, Aethos charged a small ki blast on his fingertip again. As soon as the shape of the shark became apparent, the shot lanced out from his pointed finger like a laser. Instead of piercing, or blowing up on the shark, the water beast seemed to have some sort of protective skin, the blast simply deflected off, bouncing off into the distance. “Well shit.” With a quick twirl, the cyborg brought the short spear up in defense, ready to strike. Mere meters from the warrior the shark veered off, away from him. Surprised for a second, then realizing the pack tactics, Aethos spun, stabbing down as hard as he could. The second shark's gnashing teeth missed by inches as the spear strike slammed the teeth shut, pinning its jaws together in death. Unfortunately for Aethos, as the dead sharks momentum carried it away, so too did it carry away his one weapon. Turning back just in time to catch the first of the pairs attack, Aethos caught the closing teeth with his bare hands, the serrated fangs cutting into his palms. Prying with all his might to keep the jaws apart, and his hands as intact as possible, the warrior twisted to the side, throwing the animal away with all his considerable strength. The shark turned, a small tear in the corner of its large mouth but otherwise undamaged. Not wanting to wait for it to have another chance to attack, Aethos launched himself through the water straight at his newest prey. With no noise whatsoever, the cyborg struck over and over, punching and kneeing at the sharks torso, doing all he could to avoid the head and tail, both of which were constantly trying to buffet or bite the warrior. “Try this on for size!” Aethos growled, charging his ki with a flash, punching forward and striking the shark on the nose. Avoiding the skin, he pointed directly into the animals eyes, unleashing two One Finger Blasts through the skull of the animal, as it erupted into a cloud of gore. |

Aethos touched down on the village, and even though he wasn't truly Saiyan, he was still sweating like one who had exerted himself. Carrying a net full of fish as well as a shark and a few of the larger animals he had caught had really put a strain on him. Panting as he tossed the fish to the young Namekian who had sent him on the journey. “Here you go. As you asked, I believe this is enough meat for a while?” The Namekian looked at him awestruck, clearly not expecting him back so fast, nor with so many of the large predators. “I... uh... yeah... that's go-” “Eldrikai!” A loud, old voice bellowed from within one of the tents. An old Namekian slowly came out of it, slowly. “I thought I told you to catch these fish for us? Was this not part of your training?” Aethos was silent, looking back and forth between the young and old Namekian, as the two clearly had some sort of history of disagreements. It seemed that the interactions of these Namekian were beyond him, after all if the Elder Namekian were in charge, why was the younger not simply following his orders. “No matter.” The elder said after minutes of silence, an unspoken conversation having occurred. “A Saiyan? We are not used to your kind being so nice to ours. I would like to invite you to eat with us, after all you have gathered enough food for a village twice our size.” Aethos paused for a moment, “Not... strictly a Saiyan. I am... complicated.” He glanced at the food, and a smirk came across his cold, cyborg face. “And as much as I would like to eat with you, I... do not require sustenance.” The Elder laughed, “I sensed something off. Come, let us talk about your unique past. And maybe I shall share some of our own past.” Word Count: 2286 |
