Ah! You must be… Die-goo, and Fo-nose?

Looking at the old, wrinkled namekian, Digu had a strange feeling that the guy was far older than either Fonos or he could imagine; then again… something about Fonos also gave Digu that feeling. The thought made Digu shoot a strange look at his partner, but he quickly looked back to their “host”.

Since Fonos didn’t seem to be saying anything, Digu spoke up for him. “That’s right. I’m Digu, and he is Fo-nose,” the saiyan said, glancing at his partner for moment to see how he would react to the mispronunciation of his name. It would probably irritate him, but a dirty look was about as much as Digu expected under the circumstances.

We have been sent by Guru; he has sensed evil intention in someone, and fears for your life. He told us we were to ask you for the names of all of the namekian guards that travel between here and his village, and to replace your normal guard for a few days,” Digu told the man, pulling a load of bullshit from his ass. He figured getting the names of all the guards that lived in this village, and worked for Guru would be a good start, since one of them had to be the assassin. Replacing the guard also worked with his story, and would get them on the inside so that they could actually find the guy. He hoped Fonos would pick up on it and not give away his bluff, if he didn’t he would just explain later.

For a moment the elder looked at him, as if he knew that the saiyan was lying. Actually, for a second there Digu got worried that he would get caught. That would blow things out of the water for sure. Luckily, the elder, after pondering it for a moment, decided to believe him.

Turning and walking over to some kind of desk-like structure, he got out what appeared to be paper and pencil. After jotting down a few things, he shuffled back over to the pair and handed the sheet to Fonos. “Those are the names of all of the guards that travel between here and Guru’s regularly. I’ll let my own guards know that they are to be off duty for awhile,” he said, sounding a little weary. “The two of you will find a visitor’s hut a little outside of the village, it should already be stocked with provisions.

Nodding, Digu shot a glanced at Fonos to see if the alien had anything to say or not. If he did, he was cut off by the elder. “And before you go; thank you. It is not often outsider come here without the intention of stealing our dragonballs or enslaving our race.

Although he had to feel a touch of sympathy for the old namekian, he still couldn’t stop himself from thinking what and idiot the guy was. After being fed a few bullshit lines, he had complete trust in the saiyan and the alien. Fool…

He sighed internally. Was it his accent that made it sound funny? There was no need for such a hard ‘o’ sound. But nevertheless, he didn’t say anything; instead, Fonos waited for a bit, once more allowing his… partner speak up. After a bit he got the hint and went, “That’s right,” he spoke up, saying, “I’m Digu, and he is Fo-nose.”

Heh. Funny.

“We have been sent by Guru; he has sensed evil intention in someone, and fears for your life. He told us we were to ask you for the names of all of the namekian guards that travel between here and his village, and to replace your normal guard for a few days.” Fonos gave his partner a look. What in the hell is this he’s saying? It was Guru whose life was in danger, not this Elder. But, figuring that he could always stuff the kid in a box later, he let the matter go on, and after a while, the Elder replied, albeit with a slightly hesitant tone; perhaps he didn’t entirely believe the story himself.

But the fact he believed it at all made Fonos lose a little more hope in their race’s survival. Ah well. Races have died before.

“Those are the names of all of the guards that travel between here and Guru’s regularly.” He walked over to a table and began writing down names on a sheet of paper, continuing, “I’ll let my own guards know that they are to be off duty for awhile.”

He handed the paper to the Fallen wearily. “The two of you will find a visitor’s hut a little outside of the village, it should already be stocked with provisions.” Fonos looked down at the list of names. They all looked like typical Namekian names; none really stood out to him or looked overly sinister. But then again, Guru supposedly named this person himself, so it couldn’t be that evil sounding, now could it?

Fonos started to thank the man briefly, before the Namekian himself chose to thank him: “And before you go; thank you. It is not often outsider come here without the intention of stealing our Dragon Balls or enslaving our race.”

Fonos snorted lightly. He’d actually considered grabbing the Dragon Balls himself while spending time here on this planet. He wouldn’t wish for immortality, of course; useless thing for him to have. If anything, he’d wish for mortality. But that was probably beyond the dragon’s powers. Realizing that his mind was wandering, he gave a small nod of the head and a faint smile. “It’s no problem; I owe Guru anyway.”

After that final goodbye he walked out, glancing at Digu as he did and cocking his head to the side as a nonverbal, “come on.” He waited a few moments in silence as they were pointed in the direction of their “hut”. After a few moments, everyone left earshot, and Fonos immediately shot the Saiyan a look. “What do you plan on doing with all the guards out of commission?” he hissed. “That makes it harder for us to do our job, bonehead.”

Walking side by side with Fonos, Digu suppressed a grin at the alien’s mild scolding. Obviously he hadn’t seen the genius in his plan yet. Returning the Fallen’s glance, he chuckled lightly. “You see, it actually makes our job easier. With there being no guards on duty here, it means that the assassin can’t be one of the guards from this village, as all guards that live in this village are off duty, and he would be no where near Guru whenever Kizu came here,” he said, pausing for a moment to catch his breath. “If the assassin really is one of the guards that lives here, we can keep an eye out thanks to our list of names, and if we catch someone sneaking out of town on the alleged assassination date, then we will pretty much be able to safely assume he is the would-be perpetrator and bag him there.

Stepping ahead of the alien as they reached the hut, Digu opened the door, allowing his partner to enter first before following after him. Looking around, he saw that the hut had two earth-like beds, and a shelf stocked with plants of all kinds and plenty of jars of water. Other than that, it was fairly bare. Still, it would serve well enough as a base of operations.

Turning back to more important matters, he launched into his explanation once again. “So what I’m saying is, either the assassin actually lives in Guru’s village, or he lives here and on the day of the assassination will be trying to sneak out of the village. We’ll be able to nail him easily if it’s the second one,” he said, staring Fonos in the eye. “If it’s the former… we’ll just have to hope Kizu is smart enough not to be fooled into coming here and leaving Guru unguarded.

After he finished speaking, Digu just sort of stared at the alien blankly. He had said his piece, and that was pretty much it. Sure, he might not have done anything positive by taking initiative with his own plan, but if he was right in thinking the assassin must live in this village, their job got a lot easier. “So what do you think?” he asked.

“So what do you think?”

Fonos paused for a moment, thinking it through. It was a pretty good plan, but quite a bit of it was clearly based on “if”s and such. And also, there was the pesky little promise he’d told Guru, telling him to go ahead and let Kizu head for this village. But for the moment, there was no need to mention it; it might not even be important, if the assassin came from this village.

It made sense at any rate; this would be the base of operations more than likely; Fonos couldn’t see a plot like this be linked to too many people; that made it harder for a secret to be kept a secret. So he eventually nodded. “That’s a fair plan,” he relented. “Not the best under the circumstances, but better than my own ideas.”

Not so, but details could be omitted.

Sitting down onto his own personal bed, he rubbed his chin slowly, looking down at the paper for a while, before something clicked. “So you want us to just stay here and do nothing for two days? Because I don’t see what we can really do, unless you plan on searching the village for anyone who even looks like he knows something. Which none of them do, oddly.”

Yet another curious twist. It implied that they knew of Fonos’ and Digu’s arrival before they’d come, to manage to not even hint at fear or nervousness when they’d stated their intent. He started to voice his concerns, before closing his mouth and chuckling to himself. Of course, he thought. There has to be someone in Guru’s Village in on it anyway, just for cosmetic reasons. Probably just a lackey, to say if any new developments happen. In which case…

Well, well, well. It seemed that perhaps the Saiyan wasn’t an entirely lost case. If neither went back to Guru’s, then it would look like the trail had gone cold, and the assassination plot would be “carried out.” If they continually visited Guru, it might have been changed to a later date. “Well, I won’t lie; I’m usually the one doing the assassinating, so I’m clueless as to this lazy police work. Makes me twitchy, myself. I’d worry that we’d lose our quarry, or they’d start to catch on to us or something.”

He pulled a face and shut up. Fonos didn’t like talking too much. Whenever he did, the person ended up dying right after he’d gotten to know them for a bit. Which was why he tried to stay so unreachable. That and the fact that it made him feel cool.

But that was unrelated, of course. Just a pleasant add on.

Listening intently, it didn’t take Digu long to firmly cement in himself the fact that Fonos was not the typical Universal Terror lackey like most of those that worked with Bebi. Hell, like he himself had once been, and was only just now breaking free of. No, the alien seemed to have much more to him. Making a mental note to ask his partner a little about his past some time, the saiyan turned to the task of making himself at home.

After a few minutes of raiding the overly stocked shelves, he managed only to find a bunch of what looked like vegetables, and none of them too appetizing at first glance. With a sigh, he resigned to a somewhat promising looking red fruit. It was only for two days, but he found the idea that there would be no red meat quite revolting.

After examining it closer for a moment, Digu took a nibble from the fruit, and was surprised to find it actually didn’t taste too bad. Much like an apple from Earth, he realized. “Not bad…” he muttered, forgetting for a second that Fonos was in the room with him. In three quick bites, he finished off the apple-like fruit, glad to see it didn’t have a core he had to eat around.

He really wasn’t all that hungry, surprisingly, but for good measure he downed another two namekian apples before flopping on the bed that was opposite of the one Fonos seemed to have chosen. As he stretched out, he let out a yawn. The alien had a point, what would they do for the next two days? He wasn’t exactly practiced at being a body guard either, much less at running a stake out.

This isn’t too bad, you know?” he commented, looking at the textured roof, but shooting Fonos a glance. “This place is pretty cool compared to outside. Those three suns tend to keep it really freakin’ hot.

“This isn’t too bad, you know?” he pointed out. “This place is pretty cool compared to outside. Those three suns tend to keep it really freakin’ hot.” Fonos shrugged casually, before getting up to grab a fruit from the container for himself.

“You could look at it that way,” he murmured. “But I didn’t really have a problem with the heat. I don’t know, maybe I’m just weird.” He wasn’t putting too much focus into the words, almost replying idly while he looked around for a good looking piece of food.

The one he eventually picked was about the size of an orange from Earth, but bright purple. He bit into it to realize that it seemingly had no flavor. Disappointed, he swallowed, only to realize it had an addicting aftertaste, like lemonade. He took another bite, and yet another, and so on until the small thing was gone.

Wiping his hands briefly of the sticky residue, he got back on the bed, looking curiously at Digu. What has you bending hand over foot for that two foot tall Pillsbury Doughman?

For a moment, he’d thought he asked it out loud, but when the Saiyan never replied, he figured otherwise, and took a couple steps for the door. “I’ll be back in a bit,” he said. “I need to try and get rid of some pent up energy and whatnot.” By the, however, he was already flapping his wings, letting the air whiz beneath them and raise him high into the air.

- - - The Day of the Attempt - - -

Fonos got up out of bed, awoken by an aggressive hand pushing his shoulder over and over again. Groggily, the Fallen got up to see one of the green men was forcing him to a sitting position. Looking across the room, he saw another one was waking up Digu as well. “What do you want?” he asked, trying to sound fierce. It didn’t work too well, however, with the sleep still fogging his voice. In fact, he almost sounded whiny, to his extreme dislike.

“We have been ordered to take you to the Elder’s House. It is time.” He looked across the room at Robin Hood and raised an eyebrow as if to say, ‘should we listen to them?’ He was starting to think that working as a unit, like they were, only really worked if they both held a stance on the same side, so even if they disagreed, it was better if they looked like they didn’t.

And if at all possible, hide such disagreements until alone where it could be argued out.

What is going on?

After spending the last two days more or less killing time, Digu had really expected to wake up on the morning of the assassination and be ready for whatever was going to be thrown at him. He certainly, however, was quite surprised when he felt a hand shake him roughly awake, and opened his eyes to find a namekian standing over him.

Although the alien didn’t speak, he heard someone else say “We have been ordered to take you to the Elder’s House. It is time.” Looking over, Digu saw that there was another namekian awakening Fonos; he must have been the one speaking. He noticed that his partner also had an eyebrow raised at him, asking what he thought of the situation without the use of words.

Thinking about it for a moment, Digu gave a slight nod of his head. They would follow the namekians… for now. If it turned out this was a clever ruse to lure them away from the assassin, it would be but a moment’s work for he and Fonos to take out their two “guides”.

Standing up slowly, Digu made a big show of stretching. Really, he had grabbed his scouter off of the food shelf, were he had sat it as he went to sleep. He didn’t know why, but he didn’t quite want the namekians to see him reach for it. For some reason he felt like they would be opposed to the idea. Whatever the source of the hunch, he stuffed it in his pocket, following the two namekians outside.

Before he stepped out, he glanced at Fonos. “I don’t know what this is about, but so far we have no reason to distrust them. Guru could have gotten some more information, and plans might have changed. We’ll know soon enough what is going on.

With that, he ducked out of the hut, his eyes very quickly refocusing thanks to the eternal namekian sunlight. For once… I’d like a little twilight…

A slight pause, a cocking of the head in confusion and determination of factors, and a slight nod of the head, almost imperceptible. Alright. So he’d follow these Namekians to… wherever it was they were supposed to go. Digu made a dramatic entrance with his awakening, yawning loudly and stretching far out, his small ring glinting lightly before his hands were hidden from view.

Wait, what?

Digu didn’t have a ring… taking a closer look, he saw that the scouter was gone from its typical spot near the wall. Interesting idea, boy. I wonder, if you always thought like this, it would explain why you were kept by the Empire. The Namekians looked at Fonos curiously; he waved them out, nonverbally telling them he’d follow soon after.

Digu stepped closer to the Fallen the moment they left, and whispered, “I don’t know what this is about, but so far we have no reason to distrust them. Guru could have gotten some more information, and plans might have changed.”

Fonos nodded. This was true, of course.

We’ll know soon enough what is going on.”

“Alright,” he whispered back. Taking the lead, he walked out of the small hut, looking up at the dual suns while blearily rubbing sleep from his eyes. Turning to the Namekians, he said, “It’s quite alright, boys. We know the way from here.” He turned off in the direction of the Elder’s home, only to realize that the Nameks were shaking their heads emphatically.

“No, no!” they cried out. “You are to see the Great Elder, Guru himself.” Fonos raised an eyebrow, and then looked up at the suns again, before sighing. There was no way he could tell the time by looking.

“Could you at least tell me what time it is, good sir?” They gave him a funny look, probably at his suddenly formal gait, but they shrugged it off within a few moments.

“It is the beginning of the work day,” the one on the left explained.

“I see…”

Several choices there from the information. The old man could have found out information about the plot himself – unlikely, but a good thing to hope for – or he’d ask if they had figured out information on the assassin themselves – likely, but a good thing to not hope for – or he wanted to make fun of Digu for not having caught the criminal yesterday – out of character, and very unlikely, but something Fonos would have liked to hear – or finally the last choice being that they were to stake out and take his original plan to kill the assassin during the actual assault.

Well. With all those possibilities, the only thing to really do would be to follow the Namekians to Guru’s House and find out. And by the time he’d finished that internal monologue, they’d already started to fly up into the air. He quickly snapped out of his ‘daydream’ in time to leap into the air, using a great downward stroke with his wings to catch up to the flying plants.

He then glanced back to make sure Digu was following, only to realize he was slightly ahead of Fonos. But then again, why wouldn’t he? The Saiyan hadn’t been the one sleeping on the job.

“Damn it.” He hated looking like a fool.

- - - Guru’s Hut - - -

They all touched down on the soft, grassy floor that surrounded the hut and looked around briefly. The guides murmured, “We hope your mission is a success. Thank you for helping to save our village.” They flew off, with the alien watching them briefly, almost melancholy. He tore his gaze from the pair at the sound of Guru’s earth-shattering bass voice.

“Enter…”

Enter…

Something seemed different about the voice. It was definitely Guru, but his tone was not the same as usual. Who knows? Shooting Fonos a glance that said to be ready for anything, Digu walked into the hut. The first thing he noticed was that Kizu was not there. The second thing he noticed was that there was a namekian with dark green, almost a light black, skin standing in the middle of the large room… and he was holding a strange looking sword in his hand.

Stunned and unsure what he was seeing, Digu just stood there blankly, wondering what was going on. After moment, he realized the namekian had begun speaking. “You have led our race for far too long, you old fool. Under your rule, we have become docile, and it is that reason that other races run over us like bugs. The saiyans are much like us, but instead of taking a back seat in things they are not afraid of a fight,” he seemed to shout at the grand elder. “It is for that reason that people are afraid to stand up to them, and why they think we are less than dirt on their shoes.

It is time for the namekian people to unite, and to show the galaxy once and for all that we are just as strong as the saiyans or the changelings, and I will lead them to this new greatness!

Snapping back to attention, Digu reached into his pocket and pulled out his scouter, putting it on his ear in one quick movement. In seconds it beeped. Sixteen thousand?! Knowing he had to do something, Digu could only hope Fonos was right behind him.

That all sounds good… but there is a crucial flaw in your plans,” Digu said, stepping forward. The namekian whirled around in surprise. A grin appeared on the saiyan’s face. “The namekian’s aren’t as powerful as the saiyans, and no amount of tough talk or being united will change that. Face it, your race is weak, and will forever be nothing but.

It was a very deep insult, and one he had no doubt would have its repercussions. Guru might even take offense to it, for that matter. Still, he felt sure if he had Fonos on his side, the namekian could not beat him. “We’ve been looking for you, fool. Now that we’ve found you, we’re going to crush you.

Fonos immediately shot a look up at Guru, who appeared to take Digu’s insult in his stride – or, well, sit. Whichever. But at any rate, the Namekian wielding the blade didn’t. Which Fonos also wondered exactly where he intended to stab Guru with it; it wasn’t like they were the same size of anything. Guru was just a tad bigger. Perhaps he planned on slashing everywhere, or maybe a swift stab to the brain?

“How dare, you, you Saiyan swine!” however, there was also a note of pride in his voice, as he turned to look at Guru. “You see? Even now they insult us, and our way of life. We will return to the warriors we once were. Starting with me killing you three.”

Fonos focused less on the insults for the moment, though, figuring that the Namekian would think the Saiyan the bigger threat. So while they inevitably had their petty whining arguments on who was going to do what to whom, he took a moment to briefly power up; it had been his first time since coming to Namek showing off his true power, which, laughably, was stronger than the Namek’s all on its own.

A dusty orange wave started pulsing from his skin, humming steadily. Fonos smiled. It felt good to feel the Ki running through his body once more. He took a step towards the Namekian, who suddenly shot a look this way.

Well, more than just a look; both his arms also shot towards Fonos, with that slimy vine-like quality they used, the right hand still wielding the sword. Fonos watched carefully as the arm rushed towards him, before twisting his back to the opponent and kicking his leg up hard to smack the arm holding the sword; it flew towards the right, reflecting against the suns. Just as the other arm grabbed his leg and tossed him to the ground, brutally, he called out, “Digu!” hoping the Saiyan would know to grab the Namekian’s weapon.

Using his other arm, the Sickly Assassin grabbed Fonos’ left arm, and had both arms pull to opposite sides, attempting to pull him in two pieces. Proof that despite his apparent strength and big talk, he was a complete novice when it came to actual fights. Sending a blast of Ki from his mouth, he aimed it right for the arm holding his leg. Suddenly, the smell of deep-fried Namek filled the air and with a yelp, the assassin let go of his arm.

Fonos threw his arms out and caught himself on the ground, before pushing himself up and turning over in a 180* angle, twisting the Namekian’s arm. In his adrenaline-rushed thinking, he’d forgotten that a trick like that only works on beings with bones. Slamming the ground with his back, he lost all the breath that he’d had stored up, and looked around wildly, hoping to find the Saiyan doing something worthwhile in this fight.

Watching in surprise as Fonos took some initiative with the namekian, Digu found himself merely watching the struggle for a moment. His scouter read Fonos at nearly sixteen thousand powerlevel. I was that strong… when Android Thirteen killed me… It was weird, really, because that felt like so long ago, and yet at that same power Fonos was more than triple his current strength. It was just strange, having to remind himself that he was weaker than he used to be, something he didn’t think happened often.

A blindly light hitting him in the eyes for a moment wrenched him back into reality. Huh? Looking up, Digu saw the sword that the would-be assassin had been holding before and realized Fonos had sent it sailing through the air, disarming their opponent and making him that much less dangerous. A quick glance told him that his partner was a little held up.

With a quick leap into the air, Digu managed to grab the weapon’s hilt. He was lucky, he hadn’t even considered the chance that he could miss the hilt and have the spinning blade cut his arm clean off.

Landing a little harder than expected, the saiyan whirled around to find Fonos flat on his back, a look on his face saying he needed help. “Hey plant-head!” the saiyan roared, trying to get his opponents decision as he dashed forward, raising the surprisingly heavy sword over his head. As he got closer, he swung his arms, the blade cutting through the air like a knife through warm butter.

Cursing to himself as he realized he was a little off balance from the weight of the sword, and thus his swing was sloppy and off target, Digu could only watch as the namekian whirled around at him, dodging the slash with a quick dive to the left. Shit… this isn’t going to work.

Dropping the sword in the follow-through of his swing, Digu turned to see the namekian back on his feet, a slight trickle of purple blood running down his arm from his shoulder. Seeing the direction Digu was looking, the namekian followed the gaze and saw the blood, noticing it for the first time. When he looked back at Digu he bared his teeth, showing off very bright white teeth that ended in sharp points. “I’m going to kill you!” he yelled, running at the saiyan.

Although he knew he was by far weaker than his opponent, the saiyan had years of experience under his belt. He was confident. As his opponent got closer, he lashed out with a jab to the face. It landed, surprising the namekian enough to stop him in his tracks for just a split second.

That pause was all Digu needed, quickly throwing himself onto his opponent with a ferocity he had not felt for a long time. His fists flew through the air, making contact with any part of the green-skinned alien they could find. After landing a few good blows, Digu noticed his opponent was starting to get a hold on himself again, and quickly fell backwards onto his back before driving both feet upwards.

They connected with the namekian’s chest, lifting him up and throwing him a few yards back, where he too landed on his back. In a thrice Digu was back on his feet, his hands outstretched with his palms wide open. A bright red glow emanated from either hand, and just as his opponent got back to a standing position, Digu fired the two angry red beams.

For a second he could see the look on the alien’s face; one that someone well-versed in Earth culture would call a deer in the headlights; then the beams made impact driving the namekian backwards into the wall, where his body left a large indent in the concrete-like material.

Breathing a little hard now, Digu hoped Fonos was back to his feet and ready to take over again, because he needed a moment. After that attack, the namekian should be hurting, but not enough to stop by him any means. No, he was still fighting fit big time. We need to get him out of this hut… it’s too small in here for Fonos and I to fight right, especially without his wings.

A quick glance at Fonos, told Digu that the fight, for at least a few more seconds, was still in his hands. In a few seconds… a lot can happen. Forcing such foreboding thoughts from his mind, he concentrated on his opponent, who was just now pulling himself out of the small body-shaped crater made in the wall.

Deciding to take the fight away from Guru and into more open territory, Digu left behind all feeling for pain as he charged forward, holding his shoulder low and his head high. Luckily, the namekian was caught off guard by the tackle, and the saiyan was able to wrap him up well.

Although he had his opponent more or less captured at that point, he kept going, holding the namekian on his shoulder to work as a meat shield as he attempted to run straight through the wall. Unfortunately for the saiyan’s victim, the wall was a little tougher than he had anticipated, and instead he ended up just slamming into it, crushing the namekian.

Gah!” the green-skinned assassin screamed, blood flying from his mouth as he did so. That had to hurt… Relishing in that thought, Digu quickly adapted, placing his hand with his palm wide open on the namekian’s stomach.

Ha!” he shrieked, firing another angry red energy beam from his hand. At a much closer range, the beam hit it’s target even harder, this time driving him straight through the wall and a good twenty feet outside before dropping him off of the small cliff that Guru’s hut rested on.

Glad to have a second to catch a breath, Digu shot Fonos a look. “You’ve gotta get back in here, I can’t keep him down for long,” he warned the alien. Knowing he hadn’t much time before his prey flew back in through the hole he had just made with his own body, Digu flew through it, angling hard and flying straight down the cliff side towards the green body below.

Pouring on every bit of speed his body could muster, Digu crossed his arms over his head in an X shape to protect him in this next attack. Directly below him was the namekian, sprawled out on the ground for at least a few more seconds, trying to catch a breath just as Digu had done.

Bracing himself for a very hard… landing, of sorts, Digu aimed his body straight for the namekian’s midrift… and didn’t slow down a bit.

Fonos slowly got to his feet, coughing painfully and trying to get the kink out of his back; he’d landed directly on his wings, too, so those were out of commission for a good while. “I’m getting too old for this…”

His eyesight eventually stopped spinning around from his fall and gained focus in time to see Digu trading physical blows with the Namekian Assassin. Idiot. But the more he watched, the more he disagreed with his initial thoughts. What the Saiyan lacked in raw power, he made up for in skill. The Assassin on the other hand, seemed to have plenty of power, with no strategy at all to his game plan.

And it cost him. Fonos cringed at the beams that slammed the combatant aggressively, sending him flying. The Saiyan was clearly worn out by the battle, but Fonos still hung back, curious. He wondered what this Robin Hood was capable of given the time and ability.

Eventually, however, the Namekian pulled himself away from the wall, leaving an indent similar to the size of his body, leaving behind just a bit of his essence on the wall too, he noted, and tried to focus himself, still out of it and off balance. He glanced up at Guru, who seemed to be looking on impassively. Odd.

Digu shot a look back at Fonos quickly, who shook his head slowly. Not yet. Understanding, but not liking, what he’d seen, the Saiyan took on the Namekian head on. Slamming his shoulder into the Namek, he pushed him into the wall once more. The squishing sound a plant being bled filled the air, and the Namekian gave out a watery sort of croak.

Digu took a step back and placed his hand on the Assassin’s stomach. Is he going to punch a hole through his stomach? But no such luck, it seemed. Instead, he shot a Ki blast from his hand at point blank range.

There was a crumbling sound before the wall gave; the Assassin didn’t. he flew out past the wall, the fiery beam holding him in place, until he was out and over the cliff, falling down to the ground, a faint moan emitting from him as he went. But not one in the room thought he was done for. Digu glanced at Fonos once more, but this time, with more freedom to verbalize his plea, he called out, “You’ve gotta get back in here, I can’t keep him down for long.”

He pulled a face, not really wanting to get involved in the gory of his murder, but agreed. “Fine. You take a break, alright? I’ll finish him off.”

“Wait…” Fonos turned around to face the Elder. There was a moment of silence, before he boomed, “Give him a painless death. For me.” He nodded, before walking towards the edge of the cliff. He took a deep breath, and closed his eyes. Suddenly, a rush of air shot past him. He quickly looked down to see Digu had jumped the gun to finish it off all by himself.

Muttering a few choice words about the immense intelligence of Saiyans, he followed suit, charging up two balls of Ki in his hand, one red, and the other green. As he flew down, he saw Digu’s attempt to… cut the Namekian in half with his hands? What in the hell was he thinking even attempting that?

Shaking his head, he didn’t even react when the plan failed. Blood flew from his – if they had gender anyway – mouth and a few cuts on his body, but he didn’t get sliced in half. Placing the two orbs of Ki together, Fonos looked at the now crystalline blue ball of power. “Digu, move!” He didn’t wait any longer, being too close to the ground at this point; he simply tossed the ball downward like a baseball, using all his strength to create the sort of friction it needed to gain speed.

He then slowed to a stop, watching as the hopefully final act of this mini drama unfolded.

Digu, move!

Although he only halfway heard it over the sound of a screaming pain in his arms, the saiyan still had enough sense to do as told. Forcing himself to ignore, if only for a moment, his multiple strained muscles, and possibly fractured arms, the saiyan picked a random directly and shot off like an arrow as fast as he could. With not time to look back, he could only hope whatever would happen, he would be far anyway away to avoid the aftershock.

He knew a moment later he was safe whenever he heard as very large explosion. Looking back, Digu saw just tail end of a rather large red energy ball decimating the namekian, along with much of the ground around him. Noticing a shockwave already traveling quickly towards him, Digu braced himself as it passed by, buffeting him enough to throw him back a few feet, but not much more.

Waiting until the explosion had run it’s course, Digu clicked the button on his scouter to find that his opponent’s energy signal had totally disappeared with no trace. Even as he looked closer at the now severely damaged ground at the base of the cliff, where a moment ago a namekian assassin had lain, and he had taken flight of, he could see nothing that pointed towards his opponent having been there.

Wow…” the saiyan muttered, looking at Fonos with a new respect. “What power. He’s definitely going to be a major part of Universal Terror and an important member of the Cosmic Empire… of that I have no doubt.” Checking his scouter one more time, just to ensure that it was over, Digu flew back over to his partner and gave him a hefty pat on the back. It was a bit awkward, considering he had to work around the alien’s bulky tattered wings, but it got the point across; Fonos had done a good job.

Flashing a quick, confident smile that displayed a attitude he had not had for many a long year, or so it seemed, at Fonos, he gave him a thumbs up before floating slowly back to the top of the cliff, rentering through the hole he had used the namekian’s body to punch into Guru’s hut’s wall without a sound.

Gently landing in the middle of the now rubble and dust strewn floor, Digu’s eye’s caught a glint of silver. Looking over, he saw the former sword of the now long gone namekian. It would be a shame to let it go to waste…

Walking over, he reached down and grabbed it by the handle, hoisting it’s heavy weight onto his shoulder. Wondering if it felt so heavy because of his body’s fatigue or if it really just weighted so much that he had to strain, he returned to his former position in the center of the room.

Studying, for a long moment, the Grand Elder, Digu felt a distaste for the namekian guardian. For too long he had been confined to the planet, and although it had helped him rekindle a very important old flame with Bebi, he was quite ready to make his leave. With the Cosmic Emperor’s return, things would very soon get heated again, and he had to get to work if he was going to be strong enough to face the challenges ahead.

Noticing how silent it was, Digu was surprised for a short second, since usually one could hear Guru’s deep, heavy breathing without even paying attention, and very rarely did the over large namekian go more than a minute without coughing. “The deed is done, Guru,” he said, suddenly breaking the silence. His tone might have come off a little harsh, but did he care? It wasn’t like there was anyone besides Universal Terror on the planet to challenge him.

Or maybe there is? Thinking back, Digu remember the namekian that, although no more than dust particles now, had been over three times his strength, and even stronger than Fonos at that. Unless he was the only one, which he did consider a possibility, then there could be many others, perhaps hiding in some of the many villages that had never even seen outside visitors, especially not as often as the more prominent, Dragonball holding encampments.

Unless you have reason to believe that there are more involved in this attempted assassination,” he continued, allowing his voice to lighten a little more anyways. “then it is over.

As if considering it for a moment, a low, deep sound emanated from Guru’s chest, sort of a “hmmm” sound, Digu thought. “I have no reason to believe there is anything of the sort. Few times has such a thing happened, and there are very few of my children who would attempt such a thing,” Guru said in his typical long and drawn out way of speaking. Sometimes it really irked his listeners, especially Digu, that it took him so long to say so little. “I think this was the end. I must thank you and your friend, the two of you have done a great favor to the namekian race. I must admit, it is sad one of our own had to go, but evil had consumed his heart.

Something about that last bit really stuck in Digu’s head. It made him go back to his own actions… remember the many heinous and criminal acts he had committed, mostly in the name of Universal Terror, but some without such an excuse. Although he looked, Digu could find nothing to say. For one of the few times in his life, he was speechless.

It hit the body.

The ball of blue energy touched his green skin; it could be seen clearly through the ball’s transparent surface that he tried to kick the ball away, but was far too weak for the Deflect to work properly. But he touched it the wrong way and it back splashed against him; there was a crack like an explosion as all the Kinetic Energy stored within the Fusion Ball unloaded on him, sending a shockwave flying outward in all directions. In slow motion, he saw so much of the Namekian’s body simply disintegrate.

First to go was the kneecap, where he’d tried to kick it away; the leg soon followed. From there it was a brutal attack against the lower half of his body; when it was finally over, the only good things that could be said were that it had been a mostly painless death, like the Elder had requested, and that the wounds for the most part had cauterized over, making it look much clearer of a kill overall.

Immediately after, Digu started pushing random keys on his scouter confusedly, before glancing at Fonos; the Fallen had already noticed it. There wasn’t much left of the assassin’s body for him to be alive in. Digu flew over and gave him an awkward pat on the back, which Fonos shrugged off; all in a day’s work, after all. There was a moment where nothing happened, then both started grinning, though it was probably nothing besides manly bonding.

Digu turned towards the Hut and started to float up for it, but Fonos didn’t follow just yet. He felt it would be rude to not at least dispose of the body properly. He silently walked over to the now dead assassin, and picked it up, surprisingly light now a corpse. A quiet, melancholy walk to the waters nearby before he chucked it unceremoniously in. The ripples that followed caught him attention for a brief moment. The water eventually settled, its murky depths hiding any proof of a catastrophe that could have befallen the Elder. The only proof remaining was the hole in the wall, and it would soon be fixed.

A new beginning.

He turned his back to the sea and opened his wings slowly, tentatively. He winced; they seemed to be getting beaten up quite often nowadays and ached now from aggressive overuse; surely there was a way to try and strengthen it like he did his normal body. But he laid the matter to rest for the time being, using those battered appendages to shoot him upward, and headed for Guru’s House. He put them away when he touched the cliff, and he chose to walk in through the front door rather than the hole they’d placed in it.

“…the two of you have done a great favor to the Namekian race. I must admit, it is sad one of our own had to go, but evil had consumed his heart.”

There was a long pause afterwards, while Digu absorbed the words. Then, for the first time, Fonos saw the old man move. He lifted his head about a half inch, and his eyes fluttered. Fonos somehow knew that the Elder had directed his new attention towards him. He opened his mouth ever so slightly, and began in his slow, monotonous voice. “They are the Occasi… your people. But not always were they by this name known. They are all Occasi now.” he paused to give a significant moment of thought, before finishing, in an almost lamented tone, “Their olden name is something even I cannot say.”

Fonos nodded. It fit, somehow. He didn’t know, really, how it did, but something clicked when he heard the word. The once great Bounty Hunter lowered his head in reverence. “Thank you, Lord Guru.” There was a moment, before he turned around, not knowing what else to say. He didn’t even look at the Saiyan; there was a feeling inside him that somehow, they’d been dismissed simultaneously.

He took to the skies looking down at the people below, all doing their normal chores and moving about with their inconsequential lives, all trying to make something of it that they didn’t really have or could hope for. Suddenly, he understood that what had happened with his people wasn’t any unusual occurrence.

They are all Occasi now…

It wasn’t their name. It was a title. A way of life, almost. Fonos stopped for a moment, just looking down; he felt a wave of some unfamiliar emotion wash over him. Was it pleasure? Sadness? Regret? Rage? Pride? It could have been any of them or none of them.

A single drop of water fell from his face, falling down hundreds of meters. When it hit the ground, it would hit a Namekian on the top of the head and he would look up, thinking it was about to rain. But it wasn’t. And the one who’d let the lone salty raindrop fall was nowhere to be seen; he was back in his small hut that had been given to him by the people of South Village, apparently asleep.

Ocassi?

Listening while Fonos thanked the Grand Elder and made his leave, Digu wondered what Guru had meant by the term. They were all Ocassi now… What does that mean? It almost seemed like the ending, or perhaps the beginning, of a grand story. An epic, one might call it.

Perhaps sensing his unsettlement, Guru spoke to him, and now to him alone, as Fonos was gone. “A great thing, the Ocassi used to be, Digu. They started as all things do, pure, and eager to please. With age, however, usually comes corruption. It is not my place to tell you any more, but know that there is far more to your friend than you think. Remember that, for one day he is going to need to be saved, and I fear for you that the job will fall to your hands,” the wise old elder said. Is that some kind of prophecy?

Shaking his head, Digu didn’t really know what to think. “What do you mean, Guru?” he asked, confused and bewildered, and more than a little tired. Already he could feel his body shutting down from fatigue, but for the time being it was running solely on curiosity and the aching for understanding.

I can say no more, young one. Just heed my words, and be there for Fonos whenever the time comes,” Guru replied, his tone and word choice clearly ending the conversation. Feeling more confused than he had a moment ago, Digu nodded slowly before turning to leave, making his way to the door.

Thank you, Guru. You will see me again... soon,” he called back to the elder before stepping outside and taking flight. At one time in his life, Digu thought he’d had everything figured out. Thought he knew how the world worked, and that he alone decided his future… now he wasn’t so sure. All he knew is that things were changing… or maybe they weren’t, maybe he was finally opening his eyes far enough to see things for what they really were. Whatever the fact, Digu could do nothing more than wonder and dream, and do his best to be prepared for whatever may come.

After the saiyan was gone and Guru was left alone, a few tears ran down his large, round cheeks. Tears for Fonos… for Digu… for the Ocassi… and most of all for the world. “I know my son… I know…
