Osiris was sitting on a stone bench looking out into the night sky. He wasn’t exactly sure where he was since the mountain he was sitting on was so tall it pierced the clouds. Surely it didn’t matter though, this place was merely a dream. “I’m starting to get use to having you around. Anyway, do you have an idea what is up with these markings?” The burning creature next to him spoke in its usual multi layered voice, “You shouldn’t get use to having us around like this. If you don’t learn control soon we will start to attack you. Our grip over the collective is slipping. As for the markings, they are part of a spell as far as we can tell. We cannot precisely say for sure what kind as the symbols shift and change the incantation when you exert your power. Very rare to see a living enchantment in this technological era, few are the remaining wizards. Fewer still can make a spell like that.” “Maybe that is what I will find at Rage Fire. Regardless, I have to go out there and get some crystal ash for Velva. So, I was curious, how do you know about the planet Namek? We are from many places and seen much of the universe in years since past. You should be off now youngling. Whatever you find try not to get yourself killed, that would be very disappointing.” Osiris woke before the sun had fully come up. Most of the Saoirsen wouldn’t be up just yet, save for the guards. He wanted to leave before anyone could slow him down or tag along. It wasn’t so much that he preferred to face things alone. More that he felt this was a personal matter. If it really was true that the symbols on his arm were a spell it marked him as the only one involved. Word Count: 320 Total Count: 320 |

Stepping out onto the mountainside Osiris could see for miles around. An eerie glow filled the air. While the moon might not have been out the lava that covered Cauldron gave off enough light to see by. He always enjoyed going out before the sun was up. Somehow he felt more relaxed in the dimmer light. The shadows were like his home, neither bright nor dark. Just the way he liked it. Taking off running towards Rage Fire Osiris again thought about how much easier things would be if he could fly. Instead he was stuck on the ground and forced to watch every step. One false step could drop him in a ravine full of lava. It was intensely tedious to keep alert during every step of his journey. Still, boredom was far better than death. By mid day Osiris was three fourths the way to his destination. He decided to rest before finishing his last leg of the trip. He needed to be fresh in case the place is truly as dangerous as some would say. Pulling out a small timer he arranged to take a nap for about a half-hour. Most would call him crazy for sleeping outside on Cauldron, but this place was his home. Most of all he trusted his senses to wake him should anything start to happen. The warmth of the rocks under him made falling asleep all that much easier. Osiris woke to the sound of his alarm buzzing and beeping. His nap had past uneventfully, but now he was eager and ready to find out what Rage Fire was all about. Hopping up he began to stretch his legs out before turning back to grab the small timer. Taking a few steps back out from the overhang he looked up to the top of the rock outcropping. A hulking figure stood with regal power staring down at him. Word Count: 316 Total Count: 636 |

“Damn, seriously, how many are there of you weird hounds? It’s starting to get redundant fighting you guys. Each time you seem to get bigger, but the challenge really hasn’t increased that much.” Osiris rolled his shoulders and bent at his knees waiting for the attack. Every once in a while he liked to verbalize his thoughts when there was no one around to hear him. This was not one of those times. A deep growling voice came from the Burning dogs direction, but Osiris did not hear it with his ears. Rather he heard it with his mind. “There are many of us. This was our home long before any of you two legs came to exist on this planet.” Osiris narrowed his eyes at the creature and noticed for the first time that the creature’s mane was different than the others. Instead of burning yellow or orange like normal fire it burned purple like his Ki. A sinking feeling came over him, “Your what was locked away in that cube, aren’t you? Where did you come from and why are you talking to me?” The symbols on his arm started to shift and dance again. Rumbling came from the beasts chest like laughter, “Yes, I was in that accursed cube for almost a century now. As for where I and the rest of my kind come from, that would be the elemental plane of this world. I am talking to you because you freed me and that has given you the right to take my test.” Leaping down the creature stood five feet away from him and even on all fours; it could look him in the eye. Shifting his stance slightly Osiris was tempted to back away. While that seemed like the smart thing to do, it did not seem like the dominant thing to do. Clearly his dominance was being challenged here. “Well I am curious about how you got here. But, I am more interested in this test.” Osiris cracked his neck. “It is simple. If you can make it to the top of the volcano without dying you win. Of course I will be the one trying to kill you. Don’t worry about the others though. This is between just me and you little one. I am seriously getting tired of these demeaning nick names. First I’m being called youngling by some weird ass ghost thing inside my own head. And now I’m being called little by some over grown dog from hell! No respect for teenagers I swear! ”You defend your mind well. I can sense that you are upset, but I cannot read your mind as to find out why. Few have been so guarded around me until I allow them to be aware of the fact that I am listening to their thoughts. Still, will you take my test or not?” Osiris jumped over the beast nearly starting his cloak on fire on the animal’s mane. He hit the ground running like a mad man. Within seconds the flaming creature was following him, “Oh, By the way, I accept!” Again Osiris heard the grumbling laugh from his new challenger. The hulking beast was much faster than he anticipated though. Soon Osiris was ducking and weaving to avoid swipes from his challenger’s massive claws. Every time there was an opportunity to jump behind a bolder he took it. Soon sweat was dripping from his brow, but he was almost to the volcano’s base. Leaping over a small trench and into a grouping of boulders Osiris thought he would be momentarily protected. He was very, very wrong. The beast smashed through the boulder he was running past pelting him with stone shards. A claw then caught on the tail of his cloak and all though it began to ripe immediately it slowed him down just enough. Turning around he launched a Blast Punch in order to stave off a descending paw with four dagger like claws. He only managed to push the claw away from his body. A large gash splattered blood on the ground as a ragged cut ran down his arm from shoulder to elbow. Word Count: 315 Total Count: 1,336 |

Son of a bitch! I barely had a chance of out running him before. With a bleeding wound I won’t make to the top of the volcano just trying to out run him! Screw it! Jumping into the air he brought his legs up to his chest to avoid snapping jaws. Flipping over Osiris grabbed one of the creature’s ears and used it to pull himself back down. He came down on the beast’s neck and wrapped his legs around it as tightly as he could. He started raining down blows with his left arm, his good arm. The creature started wiping its head around to dismount him. Swing its head back and forth he slammed Osiris into several boulders. These tactics only slowed Osiris down though. Suddenly the animal stopped thrashing around and switched his approach. The flames at the base of its neck started burning brighter, bigger, and hotter. Powering up his Ki Osiris created an aura around his body, attempting to push away the flames. “Just go down!” He poured his energy into his fist and slammed it into side of the beast’s head. The animal dropped to the ground. Relieved Osiris jumped off and tore off some strips of cloth to bandage his wound. As he walked away preoccupied with himself he did not notice his challenger stand from his feigned unconsciousness. The slight noise of pebble falling from the creature’s fur alerted Osiris. Taking off sprinting he never looked back to see if his assumption was right or not. Desperately he looked around to find some kind of advantage he could use. A row of odd boulders ran up one side of the volcano like spine. That’s it! If I can just get to that and use them to bounce up the mountainside I will have him beat! Purple flames wrapped around Osiris like a maniacal hand trying to close its fist on him. Bursting from the flame screaming all of his normal clothes were burned to rages that feel off his body. Only his gauntlets, bracers, boots, headband, and the weighted shirt and shorts he wore survived the flame. The one redeeming fact was that the fire had seared his bleeding arm just enough to stop the bleeding. Finally he reached the spiny rocks and began hopping one from another like a deranged person. Each time he came close to the side his challenger was running parallel to he was forced to evade large bursts of flame. Like this they seemed evenly matched, but Osiris would not lose. He saw an opportunity to take a lead two thirds the way up the volcano. Leaping to a slightly small boulder he brought both his legs up to his chest loading them for an attack. Coming down on the stone he kicked it with both legs as hard as he could, pushing it into the large beast running next to him. After hitting the rock so hard though he lost most of his momentum. Rather than return to leaping on the stone he sprinted up next to them where the ground was flat. Diving, he reached the crest of the volcano mere feet before his challenger. He laid there at the edge of the crater sucking wind like an asthmatic that just ran ten miles nonstop. He could feel the warmth of the beast’s heavy breath on his face as it stood over him, staring. It then accrued to him that he had never asked what the test was for, what he got from it, or even why it was a race of all things. For some reason he had just trusted the creature to make it worth his while to risk his life. For all he knew it was a trap and he had just played into it. “Well, it looks like someone finally beat me at my own game. Stand and place your hand on my mane.” Osiris stood and started to reach out figuring if it was a trap he would already be dead and his other questions were about to be answered. “Your Right hand!” “So, what is about to happen anyway?” Osiris suppressed the excitement in his voice. Reaching he touched the purple flames and then moved his hand until it was pressed against the underlying coal black fur. The runes on his arm danced wildly and glowed so bright it hurt Osiris’s eyes. Fire erupted from the gash on his arm for a second along with a huge amount of pain. Within an blink the flame and pain were both gone, along with any mark of the wound. Word Count 467 Total Count:2,109 |

“I probably should have told you, but this little ceremony has now bound us to one another. I now can go anywhere on this world as long as we both agree. Before, I was bound to this place by the very sorcery that allows my kind into this plane of existence. It’s a rather long story to explain everything though.” “You can explain it on the way back to my home. I know you aren’t lying, I can feel it. So I doubt you would betray me. Still, first I need to find some crystal ash for my medicine woman.” Osiris took the bag from his belt taking a moment too inspect the symbols on his right arm. They were similar to before, but now they seemed more permanent. While they still twisted and changed position, the markings themselves were always the same. “Look under your feet and you will find what you seek. “ Osiris crouched down and dug an inch into the ash beneath him and found what looked like crushed glass. It sparkled and shown pure white, it even looked hard like glass. Yet, it was soft to the touch like most other types of ash. After Osiris scooped some up into the pouch his new friend spoke again, “Now that we are rid of this distraction. I will make a long story short.” Images and sounds poured into Osiris’s mind like a waterfall. Decades of emotions and experiences washed over him. The emersion into another beings consciousness was overwhelming. It seemed as though it went on for hours. The throbbing pain in his head dropped him to his knees. Suddenly the flow of memories stopped. Osiris was left gasping, “That was amazing, I understand so much now Farren. We can handle the others later, when the time is right. There are many new possibilities open to me now. For now though, I am tired and would like a nice meal. Let’s go back home.” Osiris wasn’t even all that surprised when he realized everything he had just said was with his mind, not his voice. At first they both set off running, but before long Osiris was exhausted. He had used everything to get up the side of the volcano first. He stopped and wiped the sweat from his brow. Looking at the large beast, Farren, he narrowed his eyes. Really? Osiris smiled slightly and jumped onto his new friends back. He had a feeling getting around wouldn’t be so much of a pain anymore.
