Diive was thankful to be back on Kame Island. The tournament had been shrouded in a cloud of wrongness, and the Saiyan was beginning to think that refusing to continue his battle with the hybrid had been a very smart decision. There were still things that bothered him... but the answers to those questions would probably never come. So, he let it go. Still... he was concerned for the Saiyan who had died when the rules said it wasn't possible. His battle gem began glowing. It was not the first time the gem had been activated by his subconcious... but could it really put him in contact with Bardock? Diive picked it up and concentrated on its depths, and was transported to the void of the sparring realm.

Bardock

"King Kai," Bardock said to his master as his training had concluded for the time being. "I can't thank you enough for what you've done for me. I'll prove to be worthy enough for the ultimate test, I swear."

King Kai only nodded, hearing this from many students under his tutelage. A wiggle from the master's antennae somehow aided Bardock's blue gem in taking him away almost instantly.

A test?

The Saiyan warrior found himself back on Nargya's concrete platform, but with no audience to see him spar. Across from him was a familiar face that lifted his mood almost as much as being alive could do.

"Hey, stranger," was all he could say and grin. He then looked up at the golden halo above his head and shrugged to his old friend.

The scenery suddenly changed to the fighting platform on Nargya, but the stands were empty of spectators. Diive frowned for a moment, wondering what the game was going to be this time.

His mouth slowly opened as Bardock materialized before him. It wasn’t the fact that the Saiyan was there… he had somehow known who his opponent would be… it was the golden halo floating over the other man’s head that caught Diive’s attention.

“A halo...” Diive mumbled aloud, “I never got a halo when I died.”

He frowned in thought for a moment, wondering what it could mean. He shrugged it off and smiled at Bardock, pleased to see that the man still existed in some form or another.

The rusty-haired Saiyan took a fighting stance and nodded at Bardock, “It’s good to see you still exist. I myself dropped from the tournament the next round… I don’t know what the hell was going on, but I know I didn’t want to be involved any longer. What’s with the halo?”

Bardock
ADBZ's AoE OG
"I've been watching from---," Bardock said and pointed to the sky. They might not be on Earth together like they used to be, but he was sure Diive understood what he meant. "And as for you not getting one of these bad boys," he continued and pointed to his halo, "well I guess you just weren't cool enough." In trying to lighten the mood before their spar, he didn't immediately realize what Diive had said and how he easily responded.

He died too?

He mimicked his opponent's stance and in a burst of speed, closed the distance in three quick steps. Diive had quite the height advantage, so Bardock would do what anyone would do in his situation; he skidded on his knees and swung his right leg out and toward the outer portion of Diive's left knee. He then pushed up off the ground while moving past his old friend and threw another kick toward the back of that same knee to show that he had improved in strength and technique since they last breathed the same air.

He cleared some space between them and asked, "When and how in the hell did you die?"

Bardock had grown much faster than Diive remembered him being. The crafty warrior ducked underneath him, and the big Saiyan jumped while tucking his knees up underneath him to barely avoid both attacks aimed at his knee. He manipulated his Ki, turning in mid air to face his opponent while hovering several feet off the ground.

Diive furrowed his brow and thought for a moment before answering. “I was killed by an alien warrior named Asarak,” he said before pausing. He had to resist the urge to send his senses out looking for him again, knowing he would find nothing here in the mental realm. “He’s gone now, as if he had never existed. It’s a puzzle that’s missing pieces.”

He flew at Bardock, his Ki propelling him as he swung one glowing fist at his opponent’s ribs.

Bardock
ADBZ's AoE OG
Bardock's confidence quickly fizzled out with his failure at making contact with his first two attacks. Diive was always stronger than him, and that was one reason why Bardock enjoyed sparring him so much back when they both were under Master Roshi's tutelage. Diive's skill and strength motivated him as much as his lust for blood.

As Diive hovered in mid-air, he appeared to be in deep thought for only a moment before naming his killer.

Asarak.

Bardock's blue-white aura engulfed his entire body instantly after hearing the name of one of his mortal enemies. The invader he had barely escaped had claimed the life of an old friend. He closed his eyes for a moment and a rush of memories from his encounter with Asarak nearly overwhelmed his senses. His face even hurt at the very thought of him paying a life threatening price for trying to aid what few brave (or stupid) warriors who fought to protect the weak.

Then, his ribs hurt as he was caught in the ribs by a Ki empowered punch. He was sent flying back and in great pain. A normal punch from Diive would have done Bardock in, but he wasn't complaining. He missed being pushed to the limit by a superior opponent.

He dug his feet into the ground and came to a stop just before he would have crashed into the first row of seats in the Nargya arena. He stood upright and looked down at a round smoking black spot on his right side. He looked back up at his opponent and planned his next course of action.

"I barely escaped that bastard. I'm not proud of it, but I did it so I could take the fight to his homeworld. I failed," he said and slumped his shoulders. "I died by the hand of a coward, in this very arena. He killed me from behind. I saw your name on the list and hoped to see you here. Well, here we are."

He left a blue afterimage where he stood and reappeared behind Diive but up in the highest seats. Before his afterimage would fade, he released a long barrage of Ki blasts toward Diive's back.

Then he simply waited.

Diive listened carefully to what Bardock had to say about Asarak. So he escaped, he thought, pleased that someone had survived the encounter with that monster. The Saiyan had previously thought all those who had crossed the hybrids path had been destroyed. He was curious as to how Bardock had escaped, but that was another story for another time.

His opponent shot high up into the air and began sending blasts downward one after another. Diive could feel Bardock’s power level, and a perverse sort of curiosity came over him… could he survive an undefended barrage from a warrior with a power level over thirty thousand?

Diive dropped his defenses and closes his eyes, letting the blasts hit him with full force. Over and over they hammered him, agony washing over him as his skin blistered and cracked from the energy. His brain shut down his pain receptors, body going numb from the intense sensation.

When the explosions ended, Diive opened his eyes. He was laying on his side on the field of rubble that had become of the arena. The Saiyan had survived, if only barely.

“Well… that was… interesting,” Diive said quietly between heavy breaths. He managed a wave at his friend, and let his body fade from the astral realm.
