Hot wind rushed past Osiris’ face sweeping drops of sweat off his skin and into the air behind him. His blood was hot with rage as his muscles pumped harder and harder accelerating him ever faster towards his destination. A blazing violet aura burned around his body as the half demon fed raw Ki energy straight into his muscles to keep them from tiring. A huge plum of dust and debris rose into the sky in Osiris’ wake, but he didn’t care if anyone could see him coming. The Saoirsen had been attacked and he wasn’t there to defend them. He had let himself get too comfortable in the last couple of months and now he paid a heavy price for his negligence. Gritting his teeth he lowered his head and charged on consumed by the thoughts of his own failures.

How many people are hurt? How many people are dead? Where will they live now that we lost our base? How could I let this happen? When did they figure out where we were? How will I explain this to the survivors? What am I going to do?

These thoughts chased the young warrior across the barren lava fields of Cauldron like a pack of rabid dogs. Everything he had been training for was wasted if he couldn’t protect his people. Osiris took desperate, ragged breathes as he continued to push his body toward Iron Mountain. It was hard to tell if it was exhaustion that stole the wind from his lungs or if it was a panic attack. Either way it didn’t matter. The duo was mere minutes from reaching their destination. They had covered a distance in handful of hours that had taken and entire day to cover the day before. As far as Osiris was concerned though, it wasn’t nearly fast enough.

Coming upon a ridge the half demon stumbled forward landing on his hands and knees. His stomach heaved trying to empty its contents as protest for the constant sprinting. Osiris clenched his jaw and refused to lose his composer. Looking out across the area he could see his home, Iron Mountain. Several military ships were parked around the perimeter of the mountain which was patrolled by Keliouxian men in uniforms. Perched on a rocky ledge outside the main entrance to the Saoirsen’s base was Farren. His eyes scanned back and forth across the horizon like a merciless watch dog. The fiery hound’s eyes reached Zorn and Osiris’ position. Immediately, all four legs rippled with energy as Farren launched himself off the mountainside.

The burning purple mane could be seen weaving in between white medical tents and the people that moved in and out of the temporary structures. Osiris jumped off the side of the ridge to meet his four legged companion half way. His weary legs could barely hold up his weight as he landed heavily on the hard ground below. Tucking into a roll, he transferred some of the energy into forward momentum that helped him keep going, even as his legs felt like battery acid was pumping through them. Farren and Osiris met between two large ships with guards watching their movement carefully. Clearly they had been warned that two friendlies would be coming, but their unease showed the seriousness of the situation.

“Osiris where were you? I couldn’t feel your mind anywhere for a full day. I thought you were dead!” The huge hound arched his neck and laid his head across Osiris’ shoulder.

The half demon ran his hand across the sleek black fur of Farren. “No, I was just in a really weird place. Here, I’ll show you.” Osiris gathered up all his memories from the last two days inside his mind. He formed them into a box to make it easier to visualize the transfer. He then pushed the memories from his own mind into Farren’s where it no longer had a controlling influence to keep it compressed. The memories exploded from the cubical shape filling Farren’s mind with the rush of new experiences. “Now, show me what happened here.”

Farren hesitated for several moments before relenting to Osiris’ request. In an instant the half demon’s mind was overran by haunting nightmares of what appeared to be a war zone. He was transported into the past as the events the elemental hound had been witness to now passed through his own mind.

Osiris had taken off across the lava fields of Cauldron at a speed that Zorn had never witnessed from the demon. A cloud of dust and ki was left in trail of Osiris as Zorn still stood motionless, watching his partner begin to disappear into the distance. Whatever happened to the Sairosen must be terrible for Osiris to be running at that speed. I better catch up. Zorn lifted off the ground and rose slowly into the air before moving his body and taking off in a hurry to fly after Osiris. Even using Zorn's ki enhanced flying speed, he had a difficult time keeping up with the hurried Osiris. Every once in a while, Zorn would catch a glimpse of the worried expressions that raced across Osiris' face. Zorn knew that he was beating himself up about whatever it was that had happened to his people, simply because he had not been there to help them. This was how Zorn knew that Osiris had good intentions in his heart. He felt remorse, even for something that was not even his fault.

The two warriors continued to make their way across the lava fields of Cauldron at a much quicker speed than they had made the journey to the cave that they had just spent the last day in. It wasn't long though before they closed in on a ridge of mountains in the near distance. Both warriors were tired from the increased speed that they traveled at and the amazing amount of energy it took for them to travel that fast. Zorn was very intently concentrated on what it was that happened, but knew that he would find out soon enough. One thing he did know though, was that whatever it was that happened, was pretty severe for Osiris to be acting like this.

They reached the top of the ridge, where Osiris collapsed to the ground, breathing hard and looking like he was going to puke up the contents of his stomach soon. Zorn was exhausted from the amount of energy he had exasperated in flying to keep up with Osiris. He knew that there would have been no way he could have kept up with the determined Osiris on foot in a time like this. Zorn set down next to Osiris and took a deep breath. He looked down upon Osiris and then out over the area beyond the ridge. There were what looked like military personnel moving about ships and white tents. They were mostly moving at rapid paces, but Zorn could not make sense of what they were doing at the moment.

Then Zorn's vision locked onto the fiery beast that was Farren. Farren was making his way from a rocky ledge, weaving through the military personnel, and up to the ridge where Zorn and Osiris stood, recovering from their hasty travel. When Farren arrived, he and Osiris touched and seemed to begin sharing their thoughts. Zorn recorded this on his scouter, wondering what the secret was between these two and how they could share their thoughts with one another, even over large expanses of space. Zorn stood by, motionless and speechless at the current moment. He did not want to interrupt what was surely important business, but he hated not know what was going on.

Zorn walked closer to where the encampment of Osiris' people, the Sairosens, was and continued to look around while Osiris and Farren shared their thoughts. He saw an opening to a cave that went further into a mountain. Zorn only assumed that this was where the Sairosens hid from the slave traders and the cartels that were after them. But from the looks of it, they did have the local army on their side, for they were helping out in a great numbers and force. But how much would they truly help in the future? From the amount of attention the army was giving the situation and the seriousness that Osiris and Farren had on their faces, someone was going to pay for what happened, Zorn was sure of it.

Zorn tried to wait patiently for an answer as to what was going on and what happened. He wanted in on what was happening and what he could do to help. He wanted to know the game plan and what it involved. He turned from staring at the action going on in the area below and focused his attention back to Osiris and Farren.

”Someone gonna tell me what the hell happened here and what we are gonna do about it or do I have to figure it out myself? You two have to remember I don't share your little telepathic trick.”

Farren’s Memories

It was a dark and utterly quiet night as Farren laid a good distance away from Iron Mountain. He had accompanied Kristy and Helana back home after he had delivered Osiris his new armor. Lying there, his mind drifted lazily about not really focusing on anything. He had been freed from the magic cub that was his cage for so many years and now he was even able to walk around in the real world unhindered. Farren had dreamed of this kind of freedom for so long and yet now that he had it, he was not sure what to do with it. Without Osiris around he felt lost and useless. Without the half demon at his side Farren was acutely aware how little he fit into this world.

Snorting a small jet of fire from his nostrils the hound shifted his weight and closed his eyes. All he wanted was to sleep so the time would pass quickly. The sooner Osiris was back the better as far as he was concerned. Drowsiness began to settle into Farren as his breathing became rhythmic and calm. Just as sleep was about to over take him a small booming noise echoed across the mountain ridge. The large hound opened his eyes, but was not fully awake. Another booming noise sounded and this time he saw the streak of yellow light cut through the darkness. Concerned Farren lifted his head, and then it happened.

Screams and shouts called out from Iron Mountain as the night was lit up like a festival with fireworks. An entire fleet of hover cars came streaking in with their bright lights leading the way. Hundreds of armed men poured out of the vehicles to join the vanguard that was already engaged with the Saoirsen guardsmen. Farren jumped up and started sprinting towards the raiders bearing down on their victims. It only took a minute for him to traverse the short distance to the mountain.

With a roar, dark purple fire erupted from Farren’s mouth creating a huge plume in front of him. Unsuspecting men screamed as the flames enveloped their bodies and left them nothing more than smoldering corpses. Those that had not been killed gave shouted warnings to the others. Dozens of men unloaded their blasters at burning hound trying to fend it off. Farren sprinted from rock formation to rock formation, always one step ahead. The force of bounty hunters and low life thugs were not well coordinated.

The large hound jumper out from behind a boulder and landed amongst the marauders. His steel hard claws lashed out to cleave flesh and break bones. The few that had enough time to get of a blaster shot found that the weak energy had little effect on Farren. As the burning beast chomped down on a man’s shoulder and chest the sound of bones breaking was audible for everyone around. Pinning the victims legs to the ground the hound pulled up savagely tearing the man in half. Those who were left fled in terror in every direction.

These men, Farrent did not give chase to. He had to get to the entrance of the Saoirsen hold and help defend it from intruders. Even in the dark the hound’s eyesight was almost perfect. He could see the hundreds of men swarming up the mountain like locust approaching food. There were far too many to battle through. However, Farren was well aware of the back entrance to the caverns. His sharp, curved claws dug into the hard earth as he rushed into around the base of the mountain. He bounded over boulders and ridges with only the moonlight to guide him.

Within minutes, Farren was rushing up the opposite side of Iron Mountain and towards the same cave entrance. As he approached yellow blasts of energy came streaking out from behind rocks. A young voice screamed out over the wail of the weapons. “Stop! Stop! It’s the creature Osiris was with!” The teenage boy walked out from behind around waving his arms for a cease fire. The muzzle flashes quickly faded from the night air and the youth made his way out towards Farren. His hands trembled slightly with a mixture of fear and excitement that detonated a battlefield. Still, his reverence and trust in Osiris prompted him to step forward to confront the strange creature before him without hostility. “Why are you here?”

The blazing hound stepped forward and lowered is large head to the teenager’s level. His glowing purple eyes were a clear reflection of his bound with Osiris and in them a kindred spirit. Farren locked eyes with the boy in front of him for a few seconds and then nodded his chin towards the entrance. Without a word more being spoken the great beast stepped past the young guards and strode into the cavern. Once within the entrance, Farren began picking up speed to cross to the other side of the mountain hold. To his surprise the youths that had been guarding the rear entrance abandoned their post to follow him into the thick of the fighting.

Echoes of combat grew louder and louder with each step the odd group took deeper into the mountain. The corridors twisted and meandered back and forth having been made more by nature than intelligent design. Coming into the massive main hall, a flurry of action was there to behold and the air was heavy with the scent of blood and sweat. Men laid about the room with gashes, burns, and entire limbs missing. Almost the whole floor of the huge room had a slick coating of red liquid. The old medicine woman and those assisting here ran about the great room trying to stop bleeding and quickly bandage those not already gone. Sharp cracks of energy weapons unloading back and forth between the two forces drowned out any other noise. It made the scene incredibly eerie as the wounded contorted and shook screaming, but were rendered mute by the deafening reverberations of blasts.

Every now and then a stray blaster shoot would rip its way through the three hastily erected barriers that blocked off the tunnels filled with attackers. Behind this slowly deteriorating shield the younger and older members of the Saoirsen were filtering their way into the deeper tunnels of the hold. Farren made his way through the crowd of people as they parted around him to give room. The hounds immediately locked onto Kristy and Helana. His eyes widened in surprise as he took their sight in. They were not the same people that he had seen around Osiris.

Helana was waving he left hand around signaling orders to the men around her to take better positions and help those falling back deeper into the caverns. She stop defiant at the head of one of the barricades in the line of fire returning he own blasts of energy with an arm mounted cannon that she swung around effortlessly. When a man around her would fall she would grab the back of his shirt or an arm and throw him back deeper into the main hall to be taken care of. None of her usual meekness was to be found in the fearless warrior that now defended her people.

Kristy was not so collected. She sat at the edge of one of the fortifications with an item in either hand. In one hand was a radio communicator which she screamed into frantically. In her other hand was a bloodied knife. Her entire figure was tarnished with the stains of blood. The normally white hair was splattered and tangled by the liquid. Kristy’s eyes were wide with fear and anger. In stark contrast with the confident and strong persona Helana had taken on, the blue eyed thief looked to be on the edge. She trembled visibly, but refused to be taken back into the deeper caverns.

Reaching out with his mind Farren connected with the two women. “We need to move back now while we still have a chance. If we wait here any longer the barricades won’t be strong enough to cover our retreat.” Stepping up to one of the fortifications, the great hound lifted his head up over it and unleashed a torrent of flames down the tunnel.

Helana responded with a strong and firm voice, “We Know, the wounded are almost all taken back. We can fall back soon, just need another couple of minutes. Even if everyone gets back into the lower levels though, there is no way to block off the tunnels other than collapsing them. We will have to use ourselves as living shields. At this rate we won’t last long enough for the military to get here.”

Kristy’s mind burst into the conversation, “They are almost here! Another thirty minutes and their forces will be here. Where the hell is Osiris!?” An odd note carried through the woman’s voice. It was as if all her anxiety and stress came not from the battle itself, but not knowing where the half demon was.

“I don’t know, I haven’t felt him all day. That doesn’t matter now though! We need to make sure we are still here tomorrow! When we fall back, have the men form up around me. I will cover the retreat as much as possible.”

A sudden explosion rocked the cavern. The far barricade burst into a a cloud of flying debris, smoke, and fire. Men were sent flying by the explosion and the tunnel entrance was left wide open. Raiders poured in through the new opening and everyone was screaming for retreat. There needed to be more time though. Everything was happening to fast for the guardsmen to disengage and fall back. Farren was prepared to leap forward and slow the advance of the new threat, but was cut off.

Kristy sprinted forward, a dagger clenched in both of her small hands. Before the ground of villains could react, the lithe woman carved a path through their ranks. Steel flashed in the air as the white haired woman seemingly danced her way from one foe to another. Laid at her feet was a carpet of corpses and those wounded beyond being able to fight anymore.

Farren and Helana surged forward while the other defenders fell back to the lower tunnels. Even with the three fighters combined onslaught it was not enough to make the invading force hesitate enough for them to fall back with the others. As the other barricades crumbled and more enemies flooded into the main hall, the use of blaster shoots became nearly impossible. Now everything was close quarters which meant that the three were quickly surrounded. Helana and kristy flanked Farren on either side creating a strong formation, but it was only a matter of time before exhaustion set in.

As the full weight of the mob closed in around them a strong vibration traveled through the mountain. Then another, and another, and all of a sudden it felt as though an earthquake were striking every other second. Hot wind rushed into the cavern from almost every tunnel bringing the smell of explosives with it. The rocking ground brought the deadly melee to a grinding halt. Then, as if all the raiders had received a message at the same time, they retreated in such a hurry that they trampled many of their own trying to escape.

All the calamity of battle was quickly replaced by deep roiling bombs and a constant shaking. No one was exactly sure what was going on. Some feared that the attackers were trying to collapse the whole mountain on them. Others speculated that the military had arrived sooner than expected and were attacking the forces outside. The torture of waiting in uncertainty stretched minutes into hours. Everyone of the Saoirsen had fallen back to the deepest room in the hold with all of the unwounded guardsmen lining the only tunnel. Just as suddenly as it came, the rumbling explosions stopped. In its stead was silence, the only noise to be heard we the heavy breathings of the exhausted and the hoarse groans of the injured.

Soon the heavy thud of marching boots on rock floors could be heard drawing closer. Hope ran through all the people’s hearts, but they had learned to many hard lessons to let down their guard. Farren and the others took up their positions staring into the darkness of the tunnel ahead of them. A feint glow appeared from around a corner. From the pitch black emerged a familiar face, Commander Javier. His face set into a stern scowl, “I heard you could use some help.”

Reality

“I see.” Osiris looked down at the ground and rubbed his temples in contemplation. Somewhere in his mind he had always known this day would come. He had never anticipated that he would not be there for it however. He lifted his head up and looked into Farren’s eyes. They conferred among themselves for a moment and then Osiris turned his attention to Zorn.

The half demon took a long breath, and attempted to choose his words carefully. He summoned what little powers of oration he held. “Zorn, you have proven your trust to some degree, more than almost all others. What I am going to ask you goes beyond all of that. Those that would seek to see me and the Saoirsen erased from history have declared war on us. I refuse to back down. These people have suffered enough throughout their lives. I cannot allow this affront to go unchallenged. It would seem the military has given their aid to our cause, but that is not enough for me. I will return what has been done here tenfold on my enemies.” Osiris extended his hand out to Zorn while maintaining his fierce gaze. Cold furry lit up his purples eyes with palpable energy. “Will you go to war with me?”

Zorn stood and watched as Osiris and Farren's minds interacted, as Osiris paid careful attention to the replay of what destruction had happened to the Sairosens the night before at Iron Mountain. A painful look struck Osiris' face as he continued to wade through Farren's memories. Zorn stood there as patiently as possible with his arms crossed. As more time went on, Zorn became more and more impatient, wanting to know what happened and what the next plan of action was going to be. He assumed, with Osiris' fiery personality, he would want revenge on whoever did this to his people. Zorn began to shift his weight back and forth, from foot to foot with his arms still crossed.

Finally, Osiris and Farren were done exchanging thoughts and memories. Osiris, with a look of determination and anger turned to Zorn and did something that Zorn knew was very hard for him. Osiris asked for Zorn's help in defending and avenging the Sairosens against the people that wanted him and his people dead. It was surely the crime syndicates that had been mentioned before. The slavers of this planet. Osiris extended his hand out, showing that trusted Zorn and awaiting Zorn's answer to his request for assistance.

”You can count on me for whatever you need my friend. I will graciously do what I can to help you avenge your people and defeat your enemies. Just let me know what it is you want me to do and I will be glad to do it,” Zorn said in response as he took Osiris' hand in his own and shook it.

Zorn then looked at Farren, the fiery beast, and they locked eyes. The beasts eyes looked intense, similar to Osiris' eyes. Zorn knew that Farren would more than likely be right there by their sides as they fought in the future. Zorn nodded at the beast in acknowledgment, as if they had just become best friends, which Zorn knew probably would not happen, but they would be comrades in the same battle. Farren then looked away and began to stride casually down a narrow walk way that led down towards the severely damaged opening to Iron Mountain.

Osiris and Zorn followed Farren down the side of the ridge. When they got to the area outside of Iron Mountain, they began to weave through the numerous military ships and tents. When the three approached the opening to Iron Mountain, a uniformed man with symbols that Zorn assumed meant that he was a high rank was talking to a few of his men sternly. Zorn watched the man carefully, pondering if this was the man in charge of the military personnel scurrying about the Sairosen strong hold. Just as the officer finished talking to his men, he turned and caught sight of the three making their way towards him. He turned and went to meet the three half way.

”Osiris, it is good to see that you are back and just in the knick of time. And who might this be?” said the officer as he glanced at Zorn.

”My name is Zorn, a Saiyan. I have been here training recently with Osiris. Now it seems that I will be fighting along side of him to defend his people,” Zorn said confidently to the officer. ”And who might you be?”

”I am Commander Javier, in charge of the military here. Right now we can use all the help we can get. Osiris, you and your Saiyan friend here showed up just in time.”

Osiris and Zorn both nodded in acknowledgment at the words of Commander Javier. Just as their conversation was about to continue, Kristy and Helana walked out of the main entrance to the Iron Mountain strong hold. The two women walked forward quickly, their eyes locked on Zorn and Osiris. Zorn knew that this could go one of two ways. Someone is either going to be really glad to see them or they are going to be highly upset that the two warriors weren't around to help defend the Sairosens. Zorn prayed that they were glad to see them.

”Hello Osiris. Zorn,” Helana greeted the two warriors somewhat somberly. The two warriors nodded at her. Zorn noticed that she looked very fatigued, probably from defending the Sairosens the night before and not getting a lot of sleep. After greeting Osiris and Zorn, Helana stood by idly and almost completely motionless.

”Where were you Osiris? We needed your help last night,” Kristy said somewhat whinny. And there it was. Exactly the reaction that Zorn did want to see. There were more important problems to be going through without Osiris needing to worry about trouble with women. He wondered if Kristy understood the magnitude of the current situation and that it was not time to be negative or begin blaming people for not being around when bad things happened.

Before Osiris could answer Kristy, Zorn cut him off. ”We were in this cave out in the middle of no where, apparently somewhere that didn't allow Osiris and Farren to communicate the way that they normally do. Otherwise we would have been here. But the important thing is that we are here now,” Zorn said very frankly, looking with somewhat of a glare at Kristy and then shifting his eyes to Commander Javier.

”Yes. We have a lot of work to do and having both of you strong warriors here now will help us tremendously. We have been helping medically and trying to clean up some of the mess that was created by the attack. But we do not know where to proceed from here. Perhaps we should wade through some of the information that my Intel team has come up with and decide on a plan of action for the future. This type of behavior from the cartels cannot be allowed to continue. We need to cripple them and do it now."

Everyone in the group nodded in acknowledgement to Commander Javier's thoughts. Right now, the more information they had, the better. Zorn knew that they would be in for one hell of a fight that would bring their under trained militia against a band of criminals and thieves who had been killing and wreaking havoc their entire lives. They could not go in blindly. There needed to be a plan of attack, but one thing was for sure. Osiris and Zorn would lead the Sairosens and the military into battle.

”Let me gather my Intel team and round up the information that we will need. We will have a briefing in roughly thirty minutes to go over the information that we have and to talk battle strategy. I do not imagine that we should expect anything less than an all out war in which the crime syndicates will throw everything they have at us. They have numerous resources at their disposable, so we will have to pick out battle wisely,” Commander Javier stated. ”We shall convene the briefing in my ship, just over there to the left.”

Commander Javier walked away from the group that included Osiris, the Saiyan Zorn, Farren the fiery beast, Kristy, and Helana. As Commander Javier walked away, Zorn also walked casually away from the group and began to access some of the damage around the mouth of Iron Mountain's entrance. The rock wall that surrounded the area was charcoal black from blaster damage. Zorn walked a few paces into the mouth of the cave and soon, his boots wee covered in the still wet blood of the injured and dead from the night before. The fowl stench of death loomed in Zorn's nostrils, but it was one that he smelled several times before during his years as a young soldier in the Saiyan Army. He had never smelled it so deeply though before and it made him sick to his stomach knowing that it was the blood of many innocent people that did not deserve to die.

Zorn's fists curled into tight balls at his sides as he starred deeper into the blackness of the cave. Rage and anger consumed his body as his fists clenched tighter. The balmy air of the cave was thick in his lunges as Zorn breathed through his modified breathing apparatus. The rage grew deeper and deeper until he could not stand it any more. Zorn quickly spun and punched the black stone wall. Rocks crumbled around his fist and fell to the cave floor. Zorn then exited the cave's entrance, walking back out into the daylight of Cauldron.

As Zorn exited the cave, he looked at the group still standing where they had left them. The only one paying any attention to him was a quick glance from Farren, as he turned his fiery head to look, stare a moment, and then turn back to the group. Zorn walked a few paces away and jumped up on top of a large boulder not far from the entrance to Iron Mountain. Atop the boulder, Zorn took a seat, crossing his legs and letting his forearms come to rest on his knees. He gently closed his eyes and took a deep breath in an attempt to relax and release his rage and anger. He knew that there would be a time and place for him to use his rage, but right now he needed to have a cool and collected demeanor while they planned their next moves against the syndicates.

Zorn let his mind float about, trying to release it from the destruction and despair that the syndicates had caused the Sairosens. Zorn vowed to himself that he would help Osiris' people at any cost. Even the cost of his own life. These people had not done anything but exist, and now they were being hunted like mere animals and being put away into slavery. Zorn began to sweat in the hot, humid air of Cauldron as the thoughts continued to flow through his mind. Then, his mind was blank as he released the thoughts and his mind became dark. Time seemed to creep endlessly around him, until finally his short time of meditation was ended by a loud, fiery snort from Farren.

Zorn opened his eyes looking straight ahead, out into the distance of the lava fields that made up Cauldron. Heat waves rose from the ground as both of Cauldron's suns rose high into the midday sky. Zorn turned his head, still sitting on his perch on the boulder. He made eye contact with Farren and then made eye contact with Osiris who gave him a head nod that indicated the Intel meeting was about to begin. Zorn jumped to his feet quickly atop the boulder and then stepped off the side of the boulder, landing gently on the ground and immediately starting into his Saiyan gait.

Zorn rejoined the group quietly. This group was special. Each member had their own quirks, but they would be the ones that Zorn stood by in battle. In this ensuing battle, the four that now stood around him would be like the small battle groups that the Saiyan Army would send out to conquer small planets with little defense. Only now, Zorn was fighting for a just cause, not conquering planets. For once, Zorn felt that he belonged and that he was fighting for a just cause. The group began to walk toward Commander Javier's ship for the briefing. Zorn looked up at the sky and gave a small and simple smile of belonging, let it disappear, and then joined his small team of warriors in their walk towards their futures.

Osiris kept his quiet as the others around him spoke. His eyes wandered the area finding things much different than he had ever expected. Large craters surrounded the mountain turning it into a virtual moonscape. A small encampment was set up in the places where the ground was still intact. Large military ships created a perimeter that was watched closely by guards. If Iron Mountain looked like a small town of refugees before, it looked like a full military base now. Osiris could not decide if it was a symbol of failure or accomplishment to now have such force at his disposal. Everything was changing so fast from day to day. It was so different from his regime of training and scouting he had done in the previous months. There was no more predictability to life.

Zorn and Javier walked away from the little group that had formed. Osiris wasn’t really sure what to do while he waited for the meeting to be held. Without saying anything he started walking around the encampment, going from tent to tent. Most of them were simple living quarters with others being medical tents where the seriously injured were being treated. Every time he looked into a tent the people there gave him one of two responses. A solemn nod or they simply turned their heads away. No one seemed to want to talk to him, and for now Osiris was okay with that.

During the short walk around the area Kristy and Helana had watched him move around listlessly. Finally, when the dark clad warrior had come to sit on a rock at the outskirts of the encampment they joined him. They sat down on either side of Osiris who was leaning forward with his elbows on his knees. The hood of his cloak rested on his head, hiding his face behind cloth and shadow. The overwhelming sense of failure was eerily similar. It was the same feeling he had so many years ago after failing to protect his surrogate mother. His stomach twisted in knots, skin turned cold even under the hot suns, and his eyes watered to the point of overflowing. His gauntlet covered hands clenched into fists as though trying to strangle the sorrow in his heart.

Tears started to roll down the half demon’s pale skin and fall from his hidden face. Small spots of moister could be seen forming on the ground between his feet. Osiris wished he could rip the suns from the sky and cover his weakness with the dark. Time and time again he tried to rebuild the walls in his mind to keep the grief from weighing him down. Each time he failed miserably, only to have another wave of anxiety. His breathing became more ragged with each breath and his shoulders began to shake. A sharp pain shot through the base of his skull, but Osiris already knew nothing had actually stuck him. A familiar phantasm was starting to creep in through the cracks forming in his mind. Myriad was bearing down on Osiris’ already weakened resolve.

The half demon closed his eyes and gave a long drawn out sigh at what he was about to do. Focusing he pushed himself down into the dark recesses of his own mind. He meditated in the darkness for a long couple of minutes. It was not a thought or memory he was searching for, but a feeling. Finally, he was prepared for the ensuing storm. Forcefully he ripped out of the darkness, breaking the borders that limited it to the corners of his mind. The emotion spilled out over the memories and thoughts that had been soaked with grief. In that moment the blackness devoured all the sorrow that had been plaguing Osiris’ mind.

A dark purple haze emanated from the cloaked figure as he sat on the rock. Kristy and Helana jumped up startled from their own contemplation. Osiris rose to his full height with a miasma surrounding his being. The hood of his cloak still cast a dark shadow over his face, but an ever so feint image of his face could be seen. His shimmering purple eyes move back and forth between Kristy and Helana. “You two did well last night. Without your direction and battle prowess I doubt the Saoirsen would have lasted the night. I see you two have been training together. That is good. I expect you two to help lead us into battle at my side. Do not be a disappointment as I have,” his voice was icy and even though his words were of adoration they were devoid of compassion.

Helana nodded her understanding with a calm dignity. The woman had grown and changed during the battle. No longer was she timid, now she was possessed with a somber determination. Osiris wished he could have seen a reflection of himself in the young woman, but it was simply not there. Helana’s determination came from the sense of duty and love she felt for those around her. That was something the half demon envied greatly.

Kristy on the other hand was not so attached to the Saoirsen. Yet there she stood, shoulder to shoulder with Helana. The look in her eyes was not determination, but of a strange devotion. Kristy’s pale blue eyes locked onto Osiris’ with an unrelenting stare. She was completely transfixed on the young half demon. At that moment Osiris realized why she had asked where he was. It was not an accusation; rather she was actually worried about his safety. Even now it would seem she worried for his well being, “Are you okay Osiris?”

Osiris turned his back and started walking away, “No, I couldn’t be even if I wanted to.”

Kristy reached her hand out and placed it on the half demon’s shoulder with a firm grip. “We can all feel it Osiris. I know you are hurting but this isn’t right. You can’t keep drowning yourself in anger.”

The half demon stopped in his tracks, “Anger is a petty feeling. Maybe you are right, but for now the hate is what keeps me moving. Compassion will just get in way at this point. This is war,” Osiris looked back over his shoulder and the light revealed a tear stained face, “and I don’t intend to take prisoners.”

Osiris resumed his march towards Commander Javier’s ship with Helana and Kristy trailing behind him. Passing the boulder Zorn was sitting on Osiris nodded his heads towards him. Farren came jaunting over after making himself scarce. The clever beast knew better than anyone when to leave Osiris to his own thoughts. The group of five walked up a huge ramp into the back of an enormous air crafted painted deep shade of blue. Once in the ship they were directed down a number of corridors before reaching a large room where a number of people were already gathered around a table. Empty seats were quickly filled. The most interesting feature of the room was not the people within it, but the hologram system projected by the table they were gathered around.

“Good, now that we are all here let’s get down to it. Things are worse than we had ever anticipated. Since the attack I had an immediate state of state or marital law instituted in the city. Every ship coming or going off world is being checked by our people. I gave orders to the police force and my other infantry units to lock down the city. I figured under the pressure of the military the police force would obey, corrupted or not. I was wrong. Nearly the whole of the police have aligned themselves with the syndicates and have acted accordingly.”

Commander Javier pointed to a section of the hologram that indicated the south east quarter of the city and then continued to speak. “The force that attacked here last night was tracked back to this location. This is the same location that the corrupted officers have pulled back to. As you can see the area is mostly warehouses, but there are several large building closer to the main city. Many of the residents were already known associates of the syndicates, but not all of them. Many civilians have been taken hostage. Right now they are keeping a pretty tight perimeter on the area and are fortifying it as we speak. They are demanding we let them off world or they will harm the hostages. As far as we can tell the hostages are being held in these two high rises.”

The man ran his hand through his salt and pepper hair and sighed slightly. “If things couldn’t get any worse, they have also been making hit and run attacks on my troops as well as civilians in other parts of the city. They realized the mistake they made when we got involved here. Now they knowingly go against the Keliouxian Empire. Now they are not only criminals and terrorists, they are traitors of every shade and color. We will bring the full might of our military down on the syndicates for this treason to our people!”

Javier eyes crossed the table and settled on Zorn. “With that being said, this is a matter for those who call this empire home. If the Saiyan Empire were to catch wind of our troubles they may very well descend on this world in the hopes of catching us in a three way battle. Now, Osiris seems to trust you Zorn. He has also saved my life before so I trust his judgment, but know this. If I feel you have in anyway threatened this world you will be treated as a spy. Do I make myself clear?”

Osiris butted in with great impatience, Yes, he understands. Now, if we can get past this insignificant political bull shit I would like to discuss the plan of attack.”

Zorn stood silently, taking in Commander Javier's intel address to the group that stood in front of him. There was Zorn, Osiris, Farren, Helana, and Kristy who represented the Sairosens and then there were several military personnel. From what Zorn could tell of their markings, they were higher ranking members of the military, probably the squad leaders. It seemed that the majority of the crime syndicates and their allies were holed up in the southeastern section of the main city, mostly warehouses, but a few larger buildings as well. Zorn took in the information that was being given and it was like he was back in the Saiyan Army again.

His brain began to articulate the information and a plan began to formulate in his mind, using all of the resources that would be available. He almost zoned out completely before he found Commander Javier's eyes locked on him and warning him about any Saiyan interference. Osiris came to Zorn's defense, but the Commander still looked skeptical of the situation. Zorn knew that he needed to reassure the Commander in some way that would convince him that he was there to sincerely help the Sairosens and the other people of Cauldron.

”The Saiyan Empire has enough of their own problems to contend with at the current moment Commander Javier. As for me, I have no affiliation with them at this time and I am here on my own accord. My scouter is simply being used by me for my own good. I was collecting data for Kenel on the Lost Ones of this planet to help her with some research. Other than that, I am only here to help the Sairosens defend themselves. And I believe that my tactical skills could come in use in this situation,” Zorn said with a stern and serious look upon his face.

”Very well. If Osiris and his people trust you, then I will as well. But you will be watched Saiyan, know that,” Commander Javier replied.

”Fine. Just don't get in my way of getting things done. Now are we going to get down to formulating a battle plan or as Osiris said, are we going to bullshit about politics?”

”Yes. By all means, lets hear what kind of plan you came up with Saiyan,” said a young officer snottily as he stepped up next to Commander Javier. The way the young officer spoke rubbed Zorn the wrong way and showed that the officer had no respect for the young Saiyan. The two were about the same age as far as Zorn could tell. Zorn glared at the officer in silence before addressing the officer.

”And you are....?” Zorn said to the officer, crossing his arms as he waited for the officer to reply.

”Captain Chavez, second in command to Commander Javier,” said the younger officer.

Captain Chavez was about seven feet four inches tall, and was very muscular for his skinny frame. The blue crew cut hair on his head showed that he was very firm in his military ways, as did the perfectly pressed and worn uniform on his body. His sleeves were rolled up tightly, high on his bulging biceps and his pant legs were tucked into the top of his perfectly polished boots. To Zorn, the kid looked like he was straight out of the academy and had yet to see a real fight in his life. Even though Zorn was still young like Chavez, he had seen his fair share of fighting and knew what battle was all about. This kid didn't look like he had a clue, even with his bad ass persona that he gave off.

”Nice to meet you,” Zorn said somewhat snobbishly.

”Here is what I was thinking for a battle plan. We need to enclose the syndicates and their allies in the southeast quadrant of the city and keep them contained, not allowing them access to the rest of the city and possible escape routes. Commander Javier, this means that we need your troops to create a perimeter around the southeast quadrant of the city, which it sounds like you have a good start on. But we need the perimeter to be cover both on the ground and in the air. We can't afford to allow them to get away, not a single one of them. Do you have the personnel to cover this?” Zorn asked as he looked at Commander Javier.

”Yes, I believe that I have the personnel to cover that. We may be stretched a little thin, but we can make it happen. We have been taking a few casualties from the syndicates' hit and runs, but we will hold our own. Please continue,” Commander Javier responded with an intrigued look on his face.

”Okay good. Next, after containing them, we need to safely secure the hostages that they have taken, which you said were in these two buildings, correct,” Zorn said as he pointed to the hologram of the two high rise buildings Commander Javier motioned to earlier. Commander Javier nodded his head to confirm the information. ”For this, we will need both ground troops and air troops. We need a way to get into the basement of this building without being detected, perhaps through a sewer line or something along those lines. The air troops will need to be dropped silently in on the roof. The two squads will make their way to the middle of the building, freeing the hostages as they go. When the building in cleared and all hostages are freed, take them to the roof and radio for an evac ship and get them out of there.”

”That is a lot of troops and tactical maneuvers to be wasted just to free some hostages. Why not take care of the syndicates first and then get the hostages later when we have already taken out most of the syndicate?” interrupted Captain Chavez.

”Because if you wait, they then become bartering chips. That's the whole reasoning behind taking hostages Captain. Besides, I am only talking about twenty men for each building, so forty in total. Ten from the air and ten from the ground for each building. They won't suspect it if we can get in quietly. We aren't talking about highly trained and weaponized forces that are keeping these hostages. Most of the highly weaponized and skilled fighters will be placed on the perimeter of their holdings and protecting their bosses. It should be a simple sweep of the building that takes care of the few forces holding the hostages and removes the hostages from the field of play.”

”That could be arranged. We need some more intel into the blueprints of the building and of course preparing the four squads of ten to go in. What else Zorn? Commander Javier commented as Captain Chavez looked a little disgruntled at his Commander's acceptance of the plan.

”Well, Commander Javier, I suggest that you oversee the perimeter setting and the hostage retrieval, that way if something does go wrong, you can directly negotiate with the syndicates for their lives.”

”But what will I have to bargain with Zorn? The syndicates are not going to just hand over the hostages for nothing, especially after we just tried to sneak in and sweep them out from under their noses. And I refuse to let them off this planet. You have to give me something more to work with,” Commander Javier said as small smirk developed across Captain Chavez's face.

”Trust me sir, I have just the bargaining chip that you will need,” Zorn responded, erasing the smirk off of Chavez's face.

”Helana, Kristy, and Farren can help with the hostage retrieval, as they are adequate fighters and can move quickly. They proved themselves very useful in defending the Sairosens during the attack, so that will lessen your personnel burden slightly. But here is your bargaining chip. At the same time the hostage retrieval is taking place, myself, Osiris, Captain Chavez, and a group of your best soldiers will begin a raid into the quadrant to take out the syndicate bosses. The syndicates best soldiers will be focused on protecting their bosses, therefore we need our bes fighters in this area.”

”Yes, this makes sense, but how does this give me my bargaining chip Zorn?” Commander Javier asked.

”By simultaneously carrying out these strategies, the syndicates will be confused and communication will be poor. If chance has it that the hostage retrieval does not work and they attempt to negotiate, simply tell them that their leaders have been taken or have surrendered. By the time the retrieval happens, we should already be set in place and keep the bosses from communicating effectively. But I highly doubt that the hostage retrieval will falter in the least. I have faith in your military personnel Commander Javier that they are well trained and capable of performing the tasks needed to carry out this battle plan.”

Commander Javier simply nodded in acknowledgement. ”What we do need Commander Javier, is more intel on where the syndicate bosses are located in the southeastern quadrant for our part of the mission. We also need the blueprints and sewer plans for the hostage retrieval portion of the mission. When we have the hostages and have either captured or killed their leaders, for I am sure they will not go down without a fight, the rest of syndicate will fall. Then your military can run a sweep through the quadrant, clearing out any stragglers who didn't surrender or were hiding.”

”Interesting plan Zorn. I like the idea of simultaneously enacting the hostage retrieval and attacking the syndicate leaders, so as to confuse them,” Commander Javier responded.

”Yes, because like you said, they are already flustered because of the military involvement. We need to catch them in a surprise and exploit their confusion the best that we can.”

”I agree with you Zorn. This is a very interesting and somewhat complex battle plan, but I believe that it might be our best shot unless someone else has another idea?” Commander Javier asked of the other participants of the intel meeting. He looked around as no one spoke up, until finally Captain Chavez spoke.

”Sir, there must be a better plan for this situation. I feel that there is just too much risk in this plan,” Captain Chavez stated bluntly.

”Do you have a better plan, Captain?” Commander Javier asked. Chavez shook his head no. ”Then I believe that this plan might be our best option at this time. I will work on getting the intel that we need as soon as possible. We should get moving as quickly as possible so as to not let them get settled in too firmly.”

”I agree with you Commander. Thank you. Helana, Kristy, Farren. Do you have any questions or concerns at your part in this plan?” Zorn asked.

The three looked back and forth at each other a few times before Helana spoke for them. ”Whatever we can do to help Zorn. Just let us know. We will be ready.”

Just after Helana replied, Zorn saw Kenel and Mr. Henex walk up into the ship and stand silently behind those involved with the meeting. Zorn was excited to see her, because now he could give her all of the data that he had collected about the Lost Ones. But first, they needed to make sure that everything was squared away before they concluded their meeting.

”Osiris, how does this plan sound to you? You have been pretty quiet through this. These are your people and I know you want to exact your revenge upon the syndicates more than anyone. I think it seems only fitting that you have the final say on these battle plans. So what do you say?” Zorn asked his friend and awaited his reply.

**Osiris' Post. It was accidentally posted like this because we were temporarily using the same computer for a couple of days while he visited me.**

Osiris eyed the hologram with lack luster interest. I know from my dealings with smugglers that the sewer system of the city is high pressured and is simply a network of rather small pipes and pumps. There are however numerous service or maintenance tunnels that run under the area. These allow workers to go under and make repairs. Not just to the sewer system, but to the electrical, water, and secure landlines some people still use. They know about these tunnels and will likely have some guards there. Still, the principle idea you suggest should be usable with a little extra subtly.”

The half demon sat in contemplative silence and stared at the hologram while those around him debated the issue. Several good ideas were thrown around, but none worked well enough to denote a successful operation. Osiris began to piece together the information he was receiving into a plan, “Everything will have to be timed down to the second. When our teams get under the two buildings they will have to cut the electricity and the hard lines at the same time. Also we will have to use a high power jamming device to keep them from using radio communications. Now there will be a few seconds before the backup generators will kick in. That will be the best chance for use to penetrate the enemies’ defenses, this way our forces will be going in fast while the enemy will be blind.”

Commander Javier nodded his head, “That will take immense coordination, but I think we can pull it off. You two go collect the men needed for this operation and begin the final steps of information gathering and preparation.” The commander waved his hand at two lieutenants who immediately stood and marched away.

Osiris tilted his head towards the men while looking at Helana and Kristy, “I want you two to go with them, you as well Farren. You will be my eyes and ears with the other teams. I put my trust in you to see this mission through without getting yourselves killed. Also, I would like everyone to meet me on the south hill in two hours.”

Farren was the first to get up after the two lieutenants being one of the few, and possibly the only being that fully understood Osiris. Helana was the nest one to stand, but before she walked of her green eyes locked onto the half demon. “I will go, but I am taking a few of our people with us. We are use to sneaking around in the dark and ambushing our foes. More than that, we probably have the most experience with tunnel fighting.” Her words made good sense but they stung Osiris’ heart like cold water running over a fresh wound. “We trust you to finish this Osiris.”

When Helana had stepped away, Kristy walked towards the still sitting Osiris and bent down to whisper. “When this is all over I hope you can learn to let your guard down and stop being so cold. You don’t carry this burden alone though. Everyone here is fighting alongside you and I am fighting for you. Never think you are alone.” The group exited the room together leaving several chairs vacant.

Things would be much simpler if I was alone.

Osiris then turned his attention to Kenel and her father whom had just walked in and taken a seat around the holographic table. The half demon didn't have to say anything to learn why the pair had come. Javier beat him to that question, “I understand that you two have a connection with the Saoirsen through Osiris, but why are you here?”

The tall Keliouxian woman spoke up without her usual quizzical demeanor, “When we heard what happened, we decided to take action. There are several ships following us that should be here shortly. They are full with relief supplies like food, clothing, and a few generators if they are needed. We Just need to know where and how to pass everything out.”

The Commander gave a slight smile at the generous offer, “You are very welcome to coordinate your efforts with my medical staff and the Saoirsen leaders. An older woman by the name of Velva seems to be handling most of the mediation between our two groups. She is the woman to talk in this situation. Mr. Henex, You are a very well know manufacture and trader. To have the endorsement of your company is heartening. It is good to see that there are still men on this planet that earn their riches through honest work. We all have much to accomplish before the day ends and the storm moving in will not help very much. I suggest everyone gets moving.”

The group stood and prepared to go their separate ways when Osiris leaned over towards Zorn, “I know you probably won't like it, but it would be good if you went with Chavez and familiarize yourself with the men we will be working with. I would go with you, but I have something I would like to do in the mean time.” Speaking to everyone this time, he raised his voice slightly to be heard over some of the smaller conversations that had arose, “I would like everyone to meet me on the south hill in two hours. There is something I feel needs to be said.”

The cloaked figure stood and marched out of the ship ahead of the others. He stalked his way through the maze of white tents like an out of place shadow. It was a rather long walk around the base of the mountain to reach the south side. This was the one place Osiris had yet to visit. Slowly he walked up the hill placing one foot in front of the other with care not to deviate off the path. His eyes remained fixed on the ground as he climbed. In the corners of his vision he could see other people walking about slowly. Even before the attack, this place weighed heavily on the half demon's very soul.

Dark clouds of ash and water vapor crept in from the horizon to loam over Osiris' head. The whole environment was cast in hues of gray and shadows turned black. Those few other moaners that were there looked at the sky and decided it was time to leave, but the half demon merely tightened his cloak around his body and continued his somber march. At the crest of the hill he finally lifted his head and was greeted by the large boulder that rested there as the head stone of his surrogate mother and the namesake of the people that lived inside Iron Mountain. Osiris ran his hands over the smooth stone of the boulder as his dark purple eyes read the words carved there.

Here lies our founding mother and the namesake to our cause. May we always make you proud.

Looking down over the hill he took in the sight he had always feared. Dozen upon dozens of new graves filled the area in neat rows like an army in formation. With a heavy sigh Osiris put his back to the large boulder and slid down into a sitting position. “Looks like I failed this time. I'm sorry.....mom.” The half demon looked up into the sky half hoping to see a compassionate face hidden with in the ominous dark clouds. Instead, he was greeted by drops of inky black moisture that passed as rain on Cauldron. A smirk flashed on Osiris' face for a moment, “Guess I can't really complain, its only fitting.”

The meeting was dwindling to an end as those who partook in it began to leave to gather supplies and organize troops to prepare for the upcoming battle against the crime syndicates. Zorn and Osiris would be working with Commander Javier's second in command, Captain Chavez, who Zorn already disliked because of his smugness during the meeting. Osiris whispered to Zorn as the meeting was coming to and end that he should accompany Captain Chavez in gather troops and supplies, and to familiarize himself with the men they would be working along side of. Zorn disliked the idea, but knew it was for the betterment of the mission.

As the remaining members of the meeting began to rise to leave, Osiris mentioned that he would like to meet with everyone on the south hill in two hours, for the demon had something he felt needed to be heard by all. Zorn was impressed by the leadership that Osiris was showing for being so young and quiet. Zorn watched as Osiris walked out into the Cauldron air and weaved through the white tents that made up the military camp outside of Iron Mountain. Osiris walked south somberly as dark storm clouds began to gather and move into the area.

After Osiris disappeared from sight, Zorn caught up with Captain Chavez who was walking towards another large ship.

”Captain Chavez, wait up. I will accompany you while you gather men and supplies. It will be good for me to get familiar with the troops who will be helping us carry out our part of the mission.”

Captain Chavez did not stop walking. Rather he looked back over his shoulder at the Saiyan and rolled his eyes irritatedly. Zorn followed Captain Chavez up into the back of the large ship, which as he entered it, quickly showed that it was a military supply vessel, as the walls of the ship were lined with different firearms, weapons, and other battle equipment. Captain Chavez grabbed a clipboard from the sergeant at the front of the ship. Chavez looked around the ship for a few moments and then began to write on the paper that was on the clipboard.

”What type of supplies are you going to have your men take with them on this mission? Just the basic blasters and equipment?” Zorn asked Captain Chavez.

Captain Chavez only momentarily looked up from his clipboard at the Saiyan, rolled his eyes once more and grumbled as he went back to writing. Zorn was becoming quite irritated with the Captain's behavior and this was not helping them get anywhere. Cooperation was going to have to come from every side of this mission to ensure its success. Captain Chavez handed the clipboard back to the sergeant and told him to have everything prepared for pick up in approximately an hour and a half. The sergeant saluted the captain and Chavez turned and walked past Zorn without saying a word. Zorn was not trying to cause any trouble so he just clenched his fists and kept his mouth shut for the time being.

Zorn followed Captain Chavez out of the supply ship and over to one of the larger tents in the middle of the temporary camp. They entered the tent to see an open area in the middle of the tent with a row of bunk beds on either side of the tent. One of the soldiers in the room saw Captain Chavez and Zorn enter the tent and yelled, “Atten-tion!” All of the soldiers in the room immediately stood at attention in front of the bunk beds, staring straight ahead. All of them were extremely tall, as accustom for their race. Zorn was the shortest man in the room, which was a very different experience for the large Saiyan.

”At ease men,” Captain Chavez announced to the soldiers. All of the soldiers assumed an at ease position as Chavez continued to address them about the upcoming mission. ”Men, this platoon has been chosen for a very important mission. We are helping the Sairosens take out the crime syndicates that have been terrorizing this planet. As the best fighters of our fighting force, you men have been chosen to help lead the attack on the bosses of the syndicates. Myself, the leader of the Sairosens, Osiris, and this Saiyan, Zorn, will be leading you into the battle. This is a carefully planned and timed battle plan, so excellence is a must and anything else will be unacceptable. That understood?

All of the men in the tent answered, “Sir Yes Sir!” in unison. Most of the soldiers in the tent looked much older and much more experienced than their Captain. Zorn wondered if these men would listen to Captain Chavez, even though they were the best fighters, their discipline and ability to follow orders would be much more important to the mission.

”Good. Now get over to the supply ship on the double and pick up the supplies you will need for the mission. The sergeant there already has the list of what each of you will need. After that, head over to the south hill of Iron Mountain for some words from Osiris and at that time we will brief you thoroughly on the details of the mission. Dismissed!”

Zorn was astounded by the Captain's inability to include or allow Zorn to speak at all. Captain Chavez was already leaving the tent when finally Zorn had decided he had had enough of his high and mighty attitude. Zorn followed Chavez quickly, but did not notice Commander Javier, Helana, Kristy, and Farren, along with other members of the military standing nearby. Zorn was locked into dealing with Captain Chavez's unacceptable behavior at the current moment.

”Captain Chavez! Stop right there!” Zorn's voice roared to life as it caught Chavez's attention as well as the others that were in the vicinity. Chavez finally stopped, but turned around with an angered look on his face.

”What do you want Saiyan?” Chavez spouted. Zorn walked right up to the Captain, chest to chest, looking up at the tall Keliouxian.

”I am tired of this disrespectful and un-military like behavior from you. I have asked you several questions which you ignored and I let go, but besides a brief introduction to the men, you have kept me out of the preparation for the mission. What the hell is going on?”

”You're a Saiyan and have no business here on Cauldron. You have not weathered what these people have or what this military has endured for years. With you just coming in here and throwing out military plans like it is your duty to help these people. Do you even have a background in the military?”

”Yes I do. I was trained in the Saiyan Tactical Training School and was very adept at creating battle plans. So I have the experience to make battle plans and I am doing a civic duty to help a friend and his people in a time of need, just as you are Chavez.”

”So tell me, Saiyan. If you are so adept at creating battle plans and went to the Saiyan Tactical Training School, why are you here instead of fighting in the Saiyan Army?”

”I am currently decommissioned because I was not up to par on being a leader the way the Saiyan Counsel expected me to be. Nevertheless, I am a very good fighter and tactician. If you have doubts, ask Osiris. But I will be a part of helping the Sairosens whether you like it or not. We need everyone on the same page and cooperating for this mission to be successful. So you better get rid of this high and mighty attitude quickly and get over the fact that a Saiyan is going to be helping you with this mission. If you had a better plan when we had the intel meeting, you should have spoken up, but you didn't so you are going to have to accept the fact that we are using my battle plan.”

”Well, I think that your battle plan is gong to get a lot of people killed that shouldn't.”

Zorn, fed up with Captain Chavez's attitude, took a deep breath and prepared his final words for the Captain.

”That attitude alone is going to get people killed, Captain. I am willing to set our differences aside for now if it means the success of this mission. All I am asking is that you include me in the preparations for the good of the mission. Whatever differences we have after the mission, I will be glad to work out with you one on one. But until the Sairosens and Cauldron are free from the fear and terror of the crime syndicates, our issues must take a backseat. Understood?”

”I may not like it Saiyan, but you are right. Lets get this mission taken care of and free these people and this planet from these criminals, and then we can take care of our own personal differences,” said Captain Chavez with a hardened face.

”Good. Now lets get a move on. We don't have much time.”

Captain Chavez and Zorn walked back towards the supply ship where the twenty Keliouxian soldiers under Captain Chavez's command were gearing up. Chavez showed Zorn the materials that the soldiers would be carrying. They would be carrying a variety of grenades for specific uses, hi powered arm blasters, and very strong armor that would cover the soldiers' large frames. Zorn also learned that these twenty men were able to fly and use small, basic ki attacks, but nothing like Zorn and Osiris were capable of using.

Once geared up, the twenty Keliouxian soldiers lined up in their ranks with Captain Chavez and Zorn standing in the front of their ranks. Once prepared, led by Chavez and Zorn, the platoon marched its way through the camp made up of white tents and up the south hill of Iron Mountain. Once there, they stood at ease awaiting Osiris and the message that he wished to speak to them. Shortly after their arrival, the other troops that would be directly involved in the mission began to show up in their ranks to hear Osiris speak. Whatever it was that Osiris wanted to say, Zorn knew that it would be memorable and inspiring for everyone that heard it, for Osiris was a demon of very few words, but when he spoke, people listened carefully.

As the ash polluted rain started to fall from the heavens, Osiris noticed that people were starting to gather. In his deep contemplation he had lost track of time. What seemed to be only a half hour was a whole two. Soldiers and members of the Saoirsen alike stood amongst the graves. The blackened water ran down their face making their appearance even more solemn and gloomy than it normally would be. Thunder rolled in the distance echoing off the numerous mountain sides. Osiris stepped up onto the large boulder that sat on the crest of the hill to put himself in full view of those gathered. It was very unnatural for the half demon to speak in front of large groups, but it had to be done. For a long moment a thick silence settled over the hill, save for the sound of rain drops striking earth.

Osiris closed his eyes and took a deep, long breath while he listened to the rumble of thunder fade away behind him. Then, instead of thinking, he just spoke. “This mountain was once home to many earnest and humble people. Now it is forever tarnished with the blood of those people. This mountain was once refugee for people who have suffered. Now it is just another symbol of the pains we have felt. This mountain was once a sanctuary for those seeking freedom. Now it is a reminder of our failure to protect the ones we love.”

“All around us lay our comrades, people who just wanted to live their lives without fear. We did nothing to incite this violence upon ourselves. Yet, here we are in the middle of a silent war that has waged back and forth for three years. Many of you are new to our planet and the situation you find yourselves in. Still, I welcome you with open arms for it is by your generosity and nobility that more of my people are not laying beneath our feet. There is something that needs to be clarified however.”
Osiris paused and took a breath while he waited for a strong gust of wind to die down.

“I have heard the words many of you have spoken to one another in the camp. Many of you know that we plan to attack the syndicates tomorrow. You need to know this though. This is not an act of retaliation. This is not an act of revenge. We are not looking for pay back and nothing will revive those we have already lost.” Osiris paused to let the words sink in as small ripples of whispers carried through the crowd.

The half demon raised his voice somewhat, “Our battle is no longer one of survival! Our battle is one of judgment! For too long the syndicates have acted with impunity. For too long they have hounded the honest people of this planet. No longer will we suffer their plight on this world. They have made themselves our enemies for the last time. When tomorrow comes to an end all the people on this world will know that NO ONE can step on the rights of others without being judge accordingly. We now have the obligation to bring OUR justice upon those that would harm us. So I will say this only once. Those of you not willing to die tomorrow to deliver a rightful judgment, LEAVE! If you do not believe whole heartedly that what we do is just then I do not want you to battle for our cause. Every man and woman must choose to walk their own path and ours is not for those with unsteady legs.”

A sudden flash of lightning turned the night to day for second and Osiris could see the grim determination set into the audience’s faces. “I see right now not the faces of the broken or the weak. I see the faces of those with true courage and the strength to make this world a better place. Tonight we are not members of the military or of Saoirsen. We are all one people! With one cause and we shall be the ones who made a new dawn! So now I call to you. Go forth, fight for a just cause, and know that you will never be alone!” Osiris’ voice roared out filling the night’s air as his blazing purple aura burst from his skin. From the top of the he was a like a beacon of fire in the nights sky, a burning pier pyre that could not be extinguished by even the strongest gale. Everyone around the hill called back to him with their own shouts and howls of long held passion.

The massive crowd followed Osiris’ blazing figure as he jogged back to the encampment. People were alight with activity. Soldiers and those of the Saoirsen filled the tents with songs of battle, dancing, and excited preparations. The sight was astonishing to the half demon. He had never expected his words to have such an impact and he had the distinct feeling that the broiling excitement had already been alive in his people. His words simply coaxed it to the surface. The evening grew old before all the commotion finally died down.

Osiris stood a short distance inside the abandoned cave that was once his home. He looked out over the tents that had been dyed black by the Cauldron rain. I hope they will be as excited tomorrow when the battle is upon them. I am not looking forward to losing more of my people, but it is a necessary sacrifice. If we can do this, then maybe the generations after us will not have to endure what we did. The half demon turned and stalked down the dark corridors to find his old room. He wanted to sleep there for one last night.

As the last of the people trickled their way to the south hill, the intruding storm opened up and a dark, polluted rain began to fall from the sky. The black spikes of Zorn's hair began to droop as the dirty rain weighed them down a bit. Zorn stood with his arms crossed next to Captain Chavez as the two of them stood in front of the troops they would lead into battle. Zorn glanced around, first noticing Osiris, who stood near a large boulder at the head of the hill. Continuing to notice the surroundings, Zorn saw numerous monuments and small markings that marked the sites of what he knew must be graves. Graves of the fallen Sairosens. After noticing the graves, Zorn slowly bowed his head to the ground as he felt the hurt in his heart for Osiris' people.

Thunder began to rumble in the distance as all the members of the military and the Sairosens had finally gathered on the hill. Everyone was silent and solemn as they waited for Osiris to speak. Osiris mounted the large boulder he stood next to and looked out upon the gathered force. Zorn lifted his head and fixed his eyes upon the cloaked demon. Osiris looked a bit nervous as he closed his eyes, took a deep breath, and then began to speak. His voice boomed as it carried to every ear standing on the hill.

His speech was motivating, speaking about the upcoming battle as more than revenge, but rather as a battle of judgment upon the syndicates that have wronged them for so long. He told those that were not willing to die to leave, as this was not a battle for those with unsteady legs. At those words, Zorn took a quick glance around, but not a single being moved, their eyes transfixed upon Osiris as he continued his speech. The finally part of Osiris' speech was the most inspiring, as he called everyone to go forth and fight, knowing that they would not be alone. When those words concluded his speech, his audience burst into cheers and battle cries. Zorn found himself yelling and raising his right fist into their rainy air.

Osiris' purple aura filled the air around him as the cheers continued to fill the night sky. Osiris jumped down off the large boulder and ran through the crowd of fighters and down the hill back into the camp. The crowd followed, returning to their tents and encampments, where they spent the rest of the night singing, dancing, and preparing for the next day's battle. Zorn returned to the tent that had been given to him while he was there. It was just a basic tent with a cot, a foldable chair, and a small table. Zorn placed his back pack of gear on the table and carefully unpacked it, laying out the gear he would need for the next day. Once finished, Zorn decided to lay down on his cot, where he laid staring up at the rain soaked tent. Small leaks allowed some of the murky rain water to spill into the tent in various spots, but nothing that bothered the Saiyan.

Zorn laid there, listening to the cheering, laughing, singing, and dancing that mixed with the pitter-patter of the steady rain that fell outside. These people acted very different that Zorn's people when it came to battle. Although the Saiyans were always excited to fight, they never celebrated and carried on like the Sairosens and Keliouxians did that night. It was as if they were celebrating their lives, as if they would never have another night to live. It then struck Zorn, that some of them may never have another night like this again. Tonight was it. It could very well be Zorn's last night as well, but as a Saiyan, he was trained not to think like that, but rather to focus on the upcoming battle.

Zorn was restless as he continued to listen to the activity of the camp. His mind drifted from thought to thought and then finally, he wondered what Osiris was doing at this moment. Zorn sat up on his cot, placing his feet back on the ground. He stood up and walked out of his tent, back out into the storm that was now raging above the mountain. Loud thunder and flashes of lightning filled the air, mixing with the noise of the camp. Zorn began to walk around the camp, looking about in search of Osiris.

As Zorn walked around the camp, the black polluted rain soaked his clothing and made his dark, spiky hair droop even lower. As he walked around, the night reached a very late hour and the camp began to grow quiet for the night. Zorn could not locate his comrade in the camp and decided that it would be best to retire to his tent for the night and get some much needed rest. As he reached the front of his tent, something near the entrance of Iron Mountain caught his eye. It was Osiris, looking out upon the camp in silence. The demon then turned and walked down the tunnel of the mountain. Zorn prayed that his comrade in arms would have a peaceful sleep and be prepared to fight in the morning.

”Sleep well my friend. Tomorrow we put an end to your pain,” Zorn said out loud, but only he heard himself talk. Zorn entered his tent and retreated back to his cot for the night where he slept peacefully until the early morning hours. When he awoke, it was still pitch black out and he could hear the rain still falling. Zorn rose out of bed, walked to his gear where he slowly and meticulously place his armor and gear on his body. It was time to head to the trasports.

As Zorn walked out into the early morning rain, the camp was alive with movement, but quiet except for the rumbling of transport craft engines roaring to life and warming up. Military troops and Sairosen fighters moved about as they got into place near their transport ships. Zorn made his way silently through the camp, his mind fixated on the battle plan and implementing it precisely as planned. Finally, Zorn reached the transport ship that he, Osiris, Captain Chavez, and his twenty soldiers would take to their starting point. Chavez and his soldiers were already sitting in the transport, quietly waiting for take off.

Zorn said nothing, entered the back of the transport and took a seat next to Chavez who simply nodded at him and then continued to stare down at the floor of the transport ship. Soon after Zorn entered the transport, Osiris walked in silently with the usual garb fitted to his body. Zorn watched Osiris as he walked by him and sat down next to him. The two armor clad warriors locked eyes, but said nothing, as there was nothing that could or needed to be said at this point. They simply nodded at one another in acknowledgement and waited for lift off.

Before long, the back of the transport ship closed up and the they lifted off the ground. Zorn could still hear the rain hitting the metal of the transport as they flew through the air. It would not be long until they reached the outskirts of the city. As they approached the city, the back of the transport opened up. Zorn looked out the back of the transport ship to see that it had stopped raining and the first rising sun's rays began to peak through the departing black storm clouds. It would seem that a higher being was smiling and shedding light upon their assault to finally destroy the crime syndicates of Cauldron.

The half demon sat with his silver chest plate covered by his dark cloak. The pale skin of his face was barley visible under the hood as he looked from soldier to soldier around him. Each one was checking, rechecking, and triple checking their gear. None of them seemed to be scared or nervous in the least. An air of indomitable professionalism settled across the ship. It was clear that these men had seen a good deal of battle in the past to be so calm. It was much different than the impassioned and boisterous fighters the Saoirsen produced. Osiris contemplated which was better for a couple of minutes as his mind went over numerous situations that would test both types’ strengths and weaknesses. Soon it became abundantly clear that both were a necessary part of any army looking to be adaptable and effective.

The cloaked figure released the stream of thought as being currently un important and pulled back one of his sleeves to look at a watch he was given. The countdown was getting close to the end and he knew that they were almost to the first check point in the mission. Each member of the operation was given one that was preprogrammed so that at each phase all the fighters would be synchronized in their actions. Working under a time restraint was not something Osiris was used to, but he was more than willing to comply. He would give anything to make sure he could kill the leaders of the syndicates. He was well past the point of waiting patiently for the right time to strike. Fate had conspired against him at every turn making him pay tenfold for every little good thing he had ever managed to acquire. Enough was enough. After today fate would bend to the half demon’s whims, not the other way around.

A slight vibration on his wrist alerted Osiris to the fact that the first portion of the mission was done. Right on time the transport vehicle stopped inside the city and dropped open the back ramp for the soldiers to exit. Everyone stood from their seats in unison and began to flood out of the small ship. Osiris’ boots knocked against the dark grey stones of the city streets. The morning air was brisk by the fiery world’s standards but he knew to most foreigners this temperature was comfortable if not still a little hot. The half demon took in the air greedily as his heart began to pump faster. Osiris’ mind became so focused everything around him seemed surreal. Only one thing mattered anymore, unleashing the wrath that had been building up inside him since his earliest memories.

The unit began to move through the city streets crossing into the no man’s land that existed between the area controlled by the military and the area controlled by the syndicates. They weaved in between buildings with an eerie silence. Only the occasional step could be heard and even then it was the slightest of sounds. Finally they came to stop at the charred remains of a small building. On the other side was a twenty foot gap in buildings before the warehouse district started. From the intel briefing it was certain there would be guards posted atop almost every roof keeping an eye out for movement across the opening. More difficult than that was the need to take out the few sentries quietly to gain access to in the inner buildings unnoticed.

To avoid begin seen and to be as quiet as possible the plan was to blitz the sentries right during the shift change. The cloaked figure bounce up and down on his toes as he waited for the vibration on his wrist to tell him it was time. Only he and Zorn would cover the distance initially for it was decide only their speed was enough to get there before an alarm could be sounded. Osiris whispered to himself, “Speed, speed, speed, GO!” The watch shook slightly and the half demon bolted out from around the building. He ran parallel to Zorn as they crossed the twenty feet in a mere instant. In front of them were two windowless warehouses with flat roves. Atop each one was a small band of men all seemingly preoccupied talking to one another, eating, or trying to leave to get some rest after a long night of watching nothing.

Osiris drew his sword as he launched himself up into the air. He locked eyes with one of the guards mid air. The man’s mouth dropped open to utter a warning, but the half demon launched the white sword in his grasp. The long serpentine blade speared the shocked sentry in the chest hard enough to knock him back several feet and run another man through the back. The four other guardsmen snapped their heads around only to a cloaked figure land on the skewered corpses. Osiris ripped his blade free of the bodies and shot sideways towards another pair of enemies. With a swooping motion the Zar’rock’s razor edge stole a man’s head from its rightful body. Before other guard could raise his blaster, Osiris’ right hand shot out and wrapped around his neck. Twisting, the half demon through the guard straight into the one’s standing on the other side of the rooftop. Both men were sent crashing from the building to the hard ground below.

Sprinting across the roof towards the last remaining guard Osiris struck like lightning. A wet ripping noise could be heard as Zar’rock jutted out of the man’s back. The cloaked figure was standing so close to his victim there was no way the man did not see his face. Dark purple eyes took in the surprised and confused look the dying man wore. Osiris felt no remorse though. This is what you get for crossing me. The half demon dove off the building with the man still caught on his blade . He came down on the other guards he had thrown off the roof, sinking his blade into them as well. Osiris stood up right leaving Zar’rock buried in the lifeless bodies stacked on each other.

Looking out from between the two warehouses he could see the rest of the unit quickly covering the distance. Osiris swiveled his head upwards trying to see how Zorn was doing. There was no sign of him by the building’s edge though. He turned planted a foot on the small mound of corpses and pulled his blade free. His lip curled back into a snarl as a thought echoed through across his mind. Leaping straight into the air Osiris landed on Zorn’s building to survey his work.

There won’t be survivors, I’ll make sure of that.

Osiris and Zorn made their way through city streets with the other troops, moving quietly from one building to another with only the faintest of footsteps being heard. They had to move quickly and carefully so as not to be seen or heard by the numerous guards that the crime syndicate had posted about, watching for intruders. They were able to make their way to the outskirts of the warehouse district according to their plan. The programed and synced watches that each of the warriors wore indicated that it would soon be time for the sentries guarding the outskirts of the warehouse district to change shifts. When they were at their weakest on the shift change is when they would attack, quickly and silently taking care of them in order to gain entrance to the inner buildings of the warehouses. There is where they would find the bosses that had been running the syndicates for years. That, is where the syndicates would finally fall.

It had been predetermined that Zorn and Osiris would be the two to attack the sentries at the shift change, for they had the most speed out of the soldiers in their company. They would have to clear a span of twenty feet, jump onto a roof top, and take care of multiple enemies before any word could be sent out to alarm others with in the warehouse district. They needed to be quick and the time on their watches was dwindling down quickly. The two warriors prepared for their attack. Zorn looked at Osiris as he bounced up and down on his toes, preparing his body and mind for the attack. Zorn then closed his eyes, quickly running through what he was about to do and how he would attack. He told himself that there could be no mercy, for mercy at this time could allow the guards to get away and alarm others of their plans. It was time to take care of business, even if it did mean killing. It was killing for the sake of goodness. Zorn was prepared to do what he had to.

Zorn opened his eyes just as Osiris repeated the word speed three times before saying go. On go, like it was instinct, both Osiris and Zorn took off at a blazing speed. They crossed the twenty foot span to the warehouses where the guards were and they leaped, each landing on a different roof top. When Zorn cleared the horizon of the roof top, a group of six sentries were standing in a loose circle talking, but not paying much attention. Without being seen, Zorn landed lightly on the roof and rushed the group. He had to be quick and take care of all six of them.

Zorn came up behind the first sentry without being seen. Zorn reached up, grabbing the top of the man's head and his chin, and turned the man's head hard until he heard a cracking sound come from the man's neck. After the crack, the man's body went limp and dropped to the roof. Zorn then threw a right back handed punch into the throat of the sentry to his right, crushing the man's larynx. Zorn then kicked the man's left knee hard from the side, collapsing the man into a silent and immovable scream of pain.

Two more of the sentries rushed Zorn, but before they could raise their blasters to fire, Zorn grabbed each of them by the throat, squeezing hard as he raised them up off the ground. As the two squirmed slightly, a glimmer of red light shinned from the palms of Zorn's hands. He then fired a red ki blast from each palm which quickly decapitated both of the sentries. The now crippled sentry still screamed silently in pain, unable to move, but the final two sentries had taken off running. Zorn gave chase, using his tremendous speed to get in front of them, quickly punching each of them in the stomach and doubling them over.

Zorn grabbed the head of the first sentry he caught and forcefully pulled the man's head down as he brought a powerful right knee up towards the man's face. As the two connected, the weak sentry's face collapsed under the immense amount of force created by the blow. Blood splattered across the knee and thigh region of Zorn's pants. The other doubled over sentry tried to waddle away, but Zorn grabbed him by the belt pulling him backwards before lifting him over his head. Zorn held him there for a split second before pulling the man down. As he did, Zorn dropped to a knee and forced the sentry to land with his back on Zorn's knee. A slight cracking sound could be heard as the sentry's eyes rolled into the back of his head. Zorn let the man fall off his knee and onto the roof top.

Zorn then stood and walked over to where the last sentry was still squirming in his silent pain. Just as Zorn reached the sentry and pulled the man up by the front of his shirt, Osiris popped up onto the roof and peered around. He looked at the damage that Zorn had done before settling his eyes on Zorn and the sentry he held in his hands. Zorn looked at Osiris, who then crossed his arms and nodded, as if signaling to Zorn that it was time to kill the guard. Zorn turned his focus back to the sentry, raised his right fist, and then punched the throat of the sentry once more. This time there was a somewhat loud snapping sound as the sentry quickly began kicking and grasping for air frantically. After a few moments, the sentry was dead and Zorn dropped the man to the roof top before striding over to Osiris. Osiris looked pleased, as was Zorn.

The two dropped off the side of the building and rejoined the other soldiers waiting idly by for the go ahead to creep further into the warehouse sector. ”Good job guys. On to the next phase of the plan,” Captain Chavez said to Zorn and Osiris. Just as they were about to move deeper into the warehouse district, a radio transmission came across. All of the soldiers, Chavez, Zorn, and Osiris had radio equipment in case something happened, so they all heard the transmission come across. It was Commander Javier's voice in the transmission.

”Osiris come in. We have a problem here. The group taking care of the hostage grab has not reported in on time and they are long over due for a status report. I am worried that something has went wrong with this portion of the mission. I don't have any men that are qualified to enter a situation like this that weren't already assigned to the mission. What do you suggest that we do Osiris?”

Zorn, Chavez, and all the other soldiers looked at Osiris as the transmission ended and awaited for a reply. Osiris' face was deep in thought at what he should do. In Zorn's mind, Osiris had already made up his mind. With Helana, Kristy, and Farren thoroughly involved and leading the hostage grab portion of the mission, Osiris would not hesitate to help those closest to him. Zorn knew that he, Chavez and the soldiers could handle the warehouse district well enough until Osiris returned. They had the element of surprise on their side and the best soldiers of the military. But it was ultimately up to Osiris whether he went to investigate what happened to the hostage grab group or stayed with them. Zorn would stand by whatever decision he made, but knew which he would more than likely make.

Osiris clenched his jaw as the small ear bud gave off the sound of Commander Javier’s voice. The news was not good; a missed check-in meant something had gone wrong. The information did not make sense to the half breed. This is exactly why he had sent Farren with the other group. Should anything have gone wrong his friend could have already warned him about what was going on. Ignoring the stares from the other members of the team Osiris focused on reaching out to Farren. For a long minute he tried to extend his mind to the fiery hound without any success. Something was very wrong indeed.

The half demon looked down at himself. Blood soaked into his black cloak, it coated Zar’rock up to the very hilt, and he could feel drops of it splattered on his face and hands. He had lost sight of just how many lives were at stake as his savagery took over. He had lost perspective and now he was getting a serious wake up call. He couldn’t simply pass his judgment over those that had wronged him and his people without any other concern. There were still others to keep track of and watch over. Still, the whole operation could not be abandoned. It was too important.

“This will have to be taken care of immediately. We can’t afford to waste time standing around. Zorn, Chavez take the troops and continue the search for the leaders and take them out. I will keep my presence concealed as much as possible while I scout out what is going on. If I feel I cannot handle the situation myself I will contact you. Let me make one thing clear though. This does not change the mission. At the end of the day we must do what we must in order to end this threat. Even if the hostages, the other teams, and myself are lost, you will have to carry on the mission. This isn’t just about who is living today. This is about who will inherit this world from us. We are obligated to make it a better place, even at our own expense. Now, let’s move out.”

The young half demon nodded at the rest of his companions, sheathed his word, flipped up his hood, and turned to leave. He started to run quietly in the opposite direction of the group and back towards the main section of the city. His goal were two large housing buildings that seemed to pierce into the sky compared to the low lying storage and hanger structures. The trip would have normally been a very fast one, but the circumstances did not allow for this. Osiris was forced to go at a slower pace to keep his foot falls silent. If that was not bad enough he was forced to meander around in great loops in order to avoid guards. Every time he approached a number of men the urge to draw his blade and cut them down was almost overwhelming. Still he focused on his task at hand and beat back the savagery boiling in his heart.

As he finally began to get closer to the steel and glass structures, Osiris’ right arm began to tingle and for some reason felt woozy. It was a very odd sensation, one that he could only describe as being in a daze. Yet it was only his right arm that sensation could be felt. When the half demon stopped to consider the situation he realized what was going on. The runes on his right arm bonded him to the fiery hound known as Farren. It was plausible then that the shared feelings they had may be more inclined to manifest where the connection was the strongest; his right arm.

Shit, this must mean Farren was knocked out cold. He must just be waking up now. I was so caught up in dealing with the sentries I must have not felt his presence leave or the pain he felt just before. Damn it, this is what I get for getting sloppy!

Hiding amongst some crates Osiris closed his eyes and focused on visualizing the maps he had memorized. He was trying to find the nearest entry way into the underground service tunnels, but then a sudden thought stomped on his brain like an angry bull. If something had happened to the other teams so quickly the syndicates must have set up defenses both underground and up on the rooftops. Those defenses must have been unusually through in order to have stopped both the squads so quickly they couldn’t get a message out. The only way Osiris could think of dealing with a group of well trained individuals in such a way was an ambush. Rage suddenly flared in the chest of the half demon.

Taking the ear bud out, he reset the dial so that it would only work on the frequency that Zorn could pick up. He placed the bud back into place and pressed the button to speak. “Zorn, don’t respond out loud to me. Just keep acting like I am not talking to you. I have been thinking over what happened to the other group and only one thing seems to make sense. We have a rat. Someone is leaking information to the syndicates if they could ambush not one, but two groups of highly trained men so quickly they couldn’t get a message out. “

The young half demon took a deep breath before he went on. “I have no idea who it is, or if it is more than one person. It could have been one of the members of the other teams. It could also be one of our guys. One thing is for certain, whoever it is, they are out here with us. Only the squad members have enough information concerning the extraction mission to have set us up. I want you to keep an eye on the other members if you can. Don’t tell anyone though, not even Chavez. Until we know otherwise you, me, Kristy, Helana, and Farren are the only ones that are clear of suspicion. Grunt if you understand.” Osiris paused for a moment before he heard Zorn’s response. “Good, I am going in to see if I can’t learn more. I will contact you again when I have something new.”

Osiris was about to duck out from the crates that hid him when a moment of doubt crept into his mind. Could it be Zorn? NO! If he was going to take me out he would have had his chance long ago. Besides, I have no other recourse than to trust him. He is the only true ally I have right now.

Without another thought he sprinted out from his hiding spot and tackled a guard standing post at one of the entrances to the skyscraper. A quick jerk and the man’s neck was snapped. Another couple of seconds and Osiris had his body hidden amongst some barrels covered with a tarp. Sneaking back over to the entrance way he observed the movement of the men inside for several minutes. It wasn’t until he was confident that he could make it to the stairwell unnoticed that he moved. His feet barely seemed to touch the ground. He moved in one quick, fluid motion to reach the doorway that lead to his desired passageway. When he got there though, he was startled by a man standing there smoking a cheap cigar. The foul smelling man’s eyes widened, but Osiris lashed out instinctively. His gauntlet covered hands wrapped around the thick neck with a vice like grip.

The cigar dropped out of the man’s mouth and he desperately reach behind him for the blaster that was propped up against the wall. His flailing began to make unwanted noise that made Osiris nervous. Wanting to end it quickly he punched his victim in the chest with great force, caving in the right side of his ribs. The crunching sound was rather loud but it was quick and replaced by silence. After creeping around the main floor a while longer the cloaked figure found a vacant room to stash the corpse in. Going back to the stairwell Osiris picked up the blaster and held it while he considered going up or down. Since those he knew were not informants were entering lower in the building that seemed like the best place to start. Without hesitation the half demon began his descent into the buildings lower sections while carrying the weapon of his last casualty.

If we have to battle our way out of here, the least I can do is bring the others a few weapons to fight with.

Osiris, as Zorn expected, took off to investigate the hostage situation on foot. This left Zorn, Chavez and the additional troops to sweep the shipping yard, find, and defeat the syndicate bosses. The loss of Osiris would surely take a toll, but Zorn believed that they still had the wherewithal to proceed and be successful in taking down the syndicate bosses and ending their reign over Cauldron to an end. Zorn and Chavez talked briefly about a new plan, but they wanted to get a better look at the situation before the moved in with the troops. Zorn and Chavez moved forward towards the entrance where Zorn and Osiris had taken out the sentries on guard. They looked out over the shipping yard and scouted their current situation. Just as they thought, the shipping yard was highly guarded because of the importance of the syndicate bosses.

As they were scouting, a transmission came in on Zorn's ear bud. It was Osiris, but he was only talking to Zorn, no one else in the squad. Osiris believed that there was a rat amongst the their allies who was tipping off the syndicate of their plans. He did not have an idea of who it could be, but he was confident that there was a rat among them. Zorn thought quickly about the situation and it was plausible that there was a rat among them, especially if there had been no word from the hostage grab. That meant that they were waiting for them when they entered and moved quick enough that they were unable to get a transmission off saying they were compromised. Zorn grunted softly as he got up from his position to acknowledge Osiris without tipping Chavez off that he was talking to Osiris.

Chavez and Zorn returned to the other troops and discussed the plan. Zorn knew that his fighting ability was above anyone else's in their squad, so he thought that it was best to go on his own, distancing himself from the possible rat and an ambush.

”Okay, here is the plan. Chavez, you will take your men and sweep along the western side of the shipping yard. Take out all of the guards that you can, but move quickly and quietly. Do not give away our position, it could compromise the rest of the mission. Use methods that are quiet to take out the guards and then keep moving. Use radio communications only if there is a problem or to indicate that you have located a boss. Be careful in engaging the bosses and do not, under any circumstances, attempt to take on the boss alone. Work as a group, got it?” All of the troops nodded in confirmation. Zorn then turned to talk with Chavez briefly.

”Chavez, since you have your men, you could split them up into smaller groups to cover a larger area. I will leave that up to you.”

”Okay, we will see what plan of action we will take as we get deeper into the shipping yard. What will you be doing Zorn?” Chavez asked.

”I will go alone on the eastern side of the shipping yard and do the same. If you need any help with the bosses, tell me, and I will be there as quickly as I can,” Zorn responded.

”We can handle ourselves Zorn. We will be fine. Now lets move.”

Chavez and his troops moved into the shipping yard and proceeded to move to the western portion of it. Once they disappeared from sight, Zorn moved to the eastern side of the shipping yard and moved quickly along the walls of the buildings. It seemed as if there was at least on guard on the roof of every building, but he did not want to waste time or risk taking out guards that were not necessarily productive to the cause. The main focus was to find where the bosses were, take out the guards protecting them, and then take out the bosses themselves. Zorn needed a better vantage point to scope out the situation.

Zorn ran to the tallest warehouse in the shipping yard and flew upwards towards the roof, stopping just in time to peak over the edge to see if there was a guard on the top of the roof. As expected there was. In fact, there were two of them, each equipped with long range blasters. Zorn expected that they were snipers set there to watch over the shipping yard, but that was about to end. The two were stationary, sitting on the small wall that was located around the perimeter of the roof, one smoking a cigarette. Neither one was paying very close attention to the other and they were both looking out over the shipping yard. This gave Zorn his opening.

Zorn flew quietly around the building, stopping just under the guard who was smoking. Zorn could smell the strong odor of the cigarette wafting in the air. Zorn reached up and grabbed the syndicate soldier by the throat, pulling him quickly off the roof and squeezing the life out of him silently. Zorn then proceeded to get on the roof and moved in silently behind the second guard. Zorn grabbed the man on top of the head and on his chin and twisted quickly, snapping the man's neck. Zorn now had control over the tallest building of the shipping yard. Luckily, to aid him, the guards had a set of binoculars that would help him scout out the rest of the shipping yard and find the most likely location of the syndicate bosses.

Zorn looked across the shipping yard. First, he located Chavez and his troops who were moving to the west. They were making decent progress, taking out each guard as they proceeded. It was a bit slow compared to Zorn's plan, but effective nonetheless. It didn't seem like anything was a foot as Zorn kept Osiris' assumption of a rat in the back of his head. Zorn turned his attention to the rest of the shipping yard in the direction he would be headed. There were a few guards, sporadically placed throughout the shipping yard, but Zorn did not see any walking patrols, which he thought was odd. The guards were simply stationary atop the roofs of the the warehouses. Then Zorn noticed something very interesting.

On most of the roofs there were only one or two guards, but on three separate buildings there were multiple guards, five on each roof to be exact. ”Could they be that stupid?” Zorn asked himself. If Zorn assumed correctly, the most guarded buildings would be those that contained the bosses. Two of those buildings were located on the eastern side of the shipping yard, not too far apart. The other was located on the western side of the shipping yard, directly in the path of Chavez and his troops. He needed this information.

”Chavez, come in, its Zorn,” Zorn said in a transmission over the radio.

”Chavez here, what is it Zorn?”

”I have done some scouting from the tallest building in the shipping yard and found something useful. Most buildings only have one or two guards, but there are a couple buildings with five guards on top of them. I believe that these are the buildings that the syndicate bosses will be located in. One of these buildings is about ten buildings directly in front of you. The other two are on my side. So move quickly to that building and take care of them. I will meet up with you after I take care of the two on my side.”

”Copy that Zorn. Any ground troops that I should be worried about?”

”Negative. No ground troops anywhere in the shipping yard. All guards are on the roofs.”

”Copy that. Chavez over and out.”

The transmission ended and Zorn took a last look at Chavez and his troops through the binoculars before setting them down. They were moving quicker now, bypassing the lonely guards atop the roofs and heading directly for the building with five guards. The plan was working quite well, except for the unknown situation with the hostage grab. Zorn jumped down off of the building, landing softly on the ground below and took off running quietly towards the first building that hopefully contained a syndicate boss.

As Osiris ran down the stairs his mind surged over the events of the day. Nothing seemed right. It was too easy to move around. The half demon had expected full out battles once they had moved in further. Added to that was the absence of the corrupt police force. Commander Javier had said they fell back to take shelter from the military with the syndicates. In fact there just didn’t seem like there was enough people. The force he had struggled against his whole life always had a sprawling network and men on every corner. Now that they were all collected into one place they didn’t have enough men to properly defend the area they choose as their refuge. No one was that stupid and the leaders were no idiots.

What is their game plan?

The half demon’s feet continued to fly down the tiered structure descending lower and lower. An uneasy feeling of entrapment settled over Osiris. No matter what he choose to do he may not know if he was playing straight into the enemies hands until it was too late. He stopped at a random floor several stories into his trip downwards. The half demon placed his ear to the door and listened intently for what seemed like a long time. After hearing nothing he twisted the door handle slowly and then began to push the door open ever so slowly. Every muscle tensed in his body when he felt resistance from him opening the door. His body refused to respond to his will.

A multi layered voice echoed form the depths of Osiris’ mind. “What do you think you are doing here? Stalking around like some lowly thief. Why do you waste your time with this non sense? You fight men you could easy control. You work alongside weaklings that should flinch at every step you take. Yet they dare betray you. When will you learn your place is not amongst these fools Osiris? You hate this world and you know it. Stop defending these worthless creatures. You know only the strong are meant to survive. If anything is cruel, it is you forcing them to exist in a world that continually tries to eliminate them. Stop fighting the natural order.”

Get out of my head! I don’t want to hear your shit right now Myriad. I have enough things to fucking deal with without you getting in my way. I am not going to toy around with you and your philosophy on the universe. I’m not going to let you plant doubt in my mind when I am so close to accomplishing my goals. I will deal with you when this is over!

Suddenly regaining his control Osiris swung the door open much harder than he had anticipated. He barely managed to grab it before it slammed into the wall. Shaking his head clear he continued his way down the corridor. The cloaked figure peered into every room he passed trying to find clues. Coming to a corner Osiris tucked himself against the wall. Because of the lighting he could see a shadow of a man just beyond the bend. In one swift motion the half demon swept around the corner and thrust his arm out to subdue what he thought would be just another guard.

In mid reach his wrist was caught firmly in a scaly blue hand. A very odd humanoid looked back at his would be attacker through eyes entirely colored yellow. It grinned with great amusement and then struck back with its own blow. A left hook smashed into Osiris’ ear and the communication bud there was smashed to pieces. Small bits of the device fell freely to the carpeted floor. The half demon dropped a vicious left knee into the being midriff, erasing the smile from its face.

Upon feeling the impact of the blow the alien being must have sensed the true power gap between himself the cloaked figure he now faced. As the blue, scaly alien stumbled backwards Osiris gripped him by the throat and slammed him into the wall. Pinning his foe to the wall the warrior stared into the yellow eyes of the freakish new enemy. “When I let you down you are going to answer any question I ask. If I like what I hear, I will consider not killing you. If I don’t like what I hear, then I will make your end slow and painful. Got it?” His tone was very hushed and irritated. The mere presence of a half decent fighter suggested there would be more of them. The syndicates had already amassed a small army. Yet it took until this long to see anyone of noticeable strength and speed. Again Osiris was plagued by the thought of the entire warehouse district simply being a trap.

Are we just being lured in by these weaklings until its too late to fight our way back out? With our small force its not like we could thoroughly check every building. Their whole force could be hiding for the moment we commit to the battle completely. Shit, that’s exactly what Zorn and the others were about to do! I have no way to communicate with them now though!

The half demon looked up with his face set into a grimace so rigidly he could have been mistaken for a statue. “You knew exactly how we communicate didn’t you? And you knew I was coming somehow, which means you aren’t alone down here.” Again the blue alien smirked as he lifted up a watch with a display that looked like a radio frequency. The hand flipped around and a sudden discharge of yellow energy impacted against Osiris’ chest. The black cloak parted for a moment reviling the silver chest plate beneath. Even without this the blast would have done little, but with it the warrior hardly even noticed. What he did notice were the sounds of heavy boot falls in the distance. It was the noise of an entire group of soldiers coming from several directions.

The trap had been sprung.

Zorn's feet carried him swiftly and quietly through the passages between the warehouses. He closed the gap between him and the first building with multiple guards upon it with every stride he took. The adrenaline in his body pumped freely, but his mind stayed calm and collected. He knew that he had to move quickly to ensure success, but Osiris' notions about a rat among them continued to haunt him.

Am I running directly into a trap? Could the syndicates really be so stupid as to only post a few simple guards on the top of the buildings that held their leaders? Could it be this easy?

Zorn thought to himself as he continued to move, but there was only one way he was going to find out. He had no other choice. If there was a trap, then he would be caught and the syndicates would continue to exist. But if he gave up and did not proceed with the plan, they would continue to exist anyhow. He had to try to do something and at least if he was going down, he was taking some of the syndicate members down with him.

Zorn came to a stop along side the building just next to the warehouse with the five guards atop it. Zorn scouted out the situation before deciding his next move. He knew there were five guards above on the roof and assumed that there would be guards on the inside of every doorway and entrance of the warehouse. The easiest way inside without being detected quickly would be from the roof. He would once again have to be quick, quick to take out the five guards that now stood in his way of gaining access to the first syndicate boss.

Zorn sprinted to the outside wall of the warehouse, pressing his body flat up against it. He looked to either side of him to make sure the coast was clear, charged some ki in each hand, and prepared to attack. Zorn squatted down and leaped straight up, parallel with the warehouse wall. As Zorn cleared the roof, he spun and fired a Mesposo Beam out of each hand. The two beams traveled quickly and quietly through the air at two of the guards. Zorn chose this attack because he knew that even if he missed the explosion from the beams would not cause that much noise. At the very worst he would only alert the guards within the warehouse itself and not draw attention from other areas of the shipping yard. The two beams struck directly in the middle of the chest of each guard, striking them dead instantly.

Zorn then landed on the roof, only three guards left to take down. Zorn had one on either side of him and one directly in front of him. These guards were different than the guards that he took down earlier. They were not equipped with blasters as the others had been. These men were larger and much more muscular. These men looked like they were in fighting shape. Zorn grinned as the men closed in on him with no apparent intentions of backing down. Still, Zorn liked his odds in this uneven match up.

The first two attacked hard from the sides, attempting to grab Zorn by his arms to hold him still. The Saiyan had no objections with allowing this to happen, it only made his job easier. As the two approached, Zorn studied himself and raised both arms as if he were powering up. The two soldiers latched on hard to his arms as they reached him, still on the move. The third soldier ahead of him was now moving in quickly as well. Zorn leaned backwards with his body weight, but left his feet planted where they were. He then pulled his arms together hard with the two massive blue skinned guards clinging to them. His chest muscles bulged as the two soldiers realized they were no longer in control.

The two soldiers crashed head to head into each other, dropping motionless onto the ground and releasing Zorn's arms as they did. Once released, Zorn fell down to the roof on his back. As he did, he curled his legs up to his chest, waiting to spring on his soon to arrive third opponent. Just as the third guard came into sight over the Saiyan's knees, he released his legs like a set of springs. They flew forward, kicking the yellow eyed guard in the stomach, who spit up blood onto Zorn's Saiyan Armor. Zorn then pushed him back, making him stumble back as Zorn flipped up to his feet and began walking towards the stumbling guard. Zorn grabbed the struggling guard and placed him in a tight choke hold.

”How many guards are inside?” The guard responded with a quick blow to Zorn's rib cage, which barely phased him at all. Zorn tightened his hold.

”I am not gonna ask again after this. How many guards are inside?” The guard began flailing, rapidly throwing punches and knees strikes futilely into Zorn, who just shrugged them off. Finally, Zorn was tired of dealing with the uncooperative guard and squeezed harder until the guard lost consciousness.

Zorn carefully crept over to the doorway on top of the roof that led down into the warehouse where he would soon find out whether a syndicate boss was located or not. He carefully opened the door and entered the warehouse where he began to walk down the stairs, staying alert for any traps that may be lurking. Suddenly a booming voice sounded.

”It's about time you showed up Zorn. We have been expecting you.”

Zorn, now less cautious about his movements but still aware of his surroundings, walked with a confident demeanor down the remainder of the stairs. As he passed the steely support beams of the warehouse ceiling, a large ship came into vision with a large, pail man standing near the entrance ramp of it. In front of the man, standing guard, were two lines of five men each. The front row of guards had guards with blasts, while the second line of five appeared to be stronger warriors who were unarmed but heavily armored. Zorn stopped, standing squarely in front of the guards and what he presumed to be the boss.

The large, pail man was fat with salt and pepper gray hair and a cheesy mustache the curled into handle bars. A wooden tooth pick protruded from the left corner of the bosses mouth, his teeth visibly white in the other corner of his mouth. The man was dressed to the nines in a fancy black suit and wing tipped shoes, clearly not a man that was in any shape to fight, which explained the reason for the numerous guards. Whatever happened however, Zorn could not allow the boss to leave the warehouse, especially in that ship.

”So you are the mighty Zorn that I keep hearing about. Where is you little friend Osiris?” The boss asked.

”Taking care of some unfinished business else where,” Zorn responded.

”Oh...haha...you mean the fiasco with the hostage grab? Your little buddy is finished. There isn't a rats ass chance in hell that he walks out of that building alive.”

”Then you apparently haven't heard or witnessed enough of Osiris if you think that. But nevermind that now you bastard. You have me to worry about.”

”Ahhhh...I am so scared of the little bitty monkey. Haha...would you like to know how I knew you were coming?”

”Yes, I would very much like to know that before I kill you.”

”I thought you might. Welp, too bad! Kill'em boys!”

Osiris gave up on questioning the scaly blue mercenary, but he was not sure if there were other ways to use him. Shutting his eyes the cloaked warrior contemplated furiously trying to figure a way out of the situation and resume his search for his companions. The pounding noise of soldiers closing in on him echoed through the hallway. It was almost impossible to think. To make matters worse an underlying savagery long since embedded in his consciousness was starting to consume his thoughts. It made his demon blood feel electrified the more he thought about just charging straight into the oncoming soldiers and showing them who is superior. Still, he may have been young but he knew enough not to run into a situation blind. There seemed no other options available to him though.

“I AM NOT GOING TO BE A CAGED RAT!” Osiris choked slammed the helpless foe he had caught. In his absent mindedness he put a great deal more strength in the throw than he realized. The concrete floor gave way under his feet and he fell to the next floor beneath. With all of the loose rubble the cloaked figured nearly fell over when he dropped down. Startled by what just happened the half demon snapped his head from side to side trying to catch his bearings. He heard shouting from above which made him dart away from the hole he had created. Dashing down a long hallway with apartment doors on either side, he searched quickly for another door that lead to the staircase. Rounding a corner the sign marking the exit was in plain view. His had latched onto the knob, but then he paused without turning it.

Something metallic caught the half demon’s eye. On the upper portion of the door frame there was two sections of a small device. One section was on the door itself and the other merely on the frame. A short antenna stuck out of the top of the section connected to the door frame. Right then Osiris knew that they had wired all the doors to send out signals when they were opened. Turning the knob he opened the door and then continued to sprint down the hallway. Stopping at the last apartment door the cloaked warrior threw a shoulder into the door with just enough strength to bust it open. He hoped with as loud as the men moving down the hallway seemed, they would not noticed the sound.

Slipping into the dark room he shut the door behind him and was immersed in pitch black. Osiris stood there staring into the inky blackness where the door would be. Every muscle was tense with the anticipation that someone may come flying through the door at any minute. A sudden feeling of waking up washed over Osiris. He immediately extended his mind out to Farren.

“Are you okay? Can you tell me what is going on?”

Slowly the connection between the two beings minds became stronger as the fuzziness cleared from Farrens brain. “I’m okay. Just took a blow to the back of the head. Osiris, you need to be careful. They have some really powerful fighters here. If you get caught in a group of them, I am not sure you would make it out in one piece. Several of our men are badly hurt and I think we are somewhere else. This structure doesn’t look like it would be in either of the towers. It looks more like one of the warehouses. Both teams are here along with a lot of guards. Seems they have plans for us.”

“Listen; just sit tight for right now. As long as you are conscious I will be able to follow the connection back to you. Unless something happens just act like you are still knocked out. I will be there soon.”

“They knew you we were coming. They knew you would come to see what happened. Those towers are flooded with soldiers. You can only trick them for so long.”

“Like I said, I will be there soon. Now stop crawling around my brain so I can concentrate.”

The room began to glow with a faint purple light that cast shadows over a living room. Two medium well cushioned metal chairs sat facing a wall that was covered in entertainment devices; most of which Osiris himself had only ever seen, but never used. His lip curled for a moment in disgust. In his opinion such idle wastes of time never did anyone good. Walking to the other side of the living room he tapped on the wall. Running his glowing hand over the wall he could feel it was different from the others that created the hallway. It was not as thick, and the material was not as hard. It seemed only logical since this would not be a load bearing wall. A sudden crashing noise filled the silent room as Osiris smashed his foot through the wall. Huge chunks of what seemed to be a less dense form of concrete fell away to reveal a large hole. He quickly stepped through the wall and into another eerily similar living room.

What does this stuff just come standard? Do these people have nothing better to do with their time than play game? It’s shit like this that keeps them blind to the real world.

Not letting his thoughts slow him down the cloaked figure stormed through the room and barreled through a door of composite materials like there was nothing there. Making a hard right down another bright beige hallway his eyes locked onto a tall man with long blue hair and black studded battle gear. Two balls of Ki quickly formed in the Keliouxian’s hands. Both came shooting out towards Osiris’ chest. With the half demon running towards the man and his attack the distance was closed quickly. Unable to gauge his opponent’s strength he dove under the two Ki orbs and somersaulted forward. Pushing off with his arms halfway to through the roll, Osiris launched forward with his feet straight into the keliouxian’s gut. The blue haired man was sent flying to the end of the hallway where he crashed into the wall, cracking and breaking the concrete.

With his path now cleared for a few seconds the demon turned to his left and pried open a set of elevator doors. Not wasting time with the latter that was there, Osiris jumped hard at an upward diagonal. His feet briefly planted on the opposite wall which was just enough time for him to push off. In mid air he spun himself around so he could repeat the movement. In this fashion he bounced his way up the shaft. His enemies were smart enough to cut off his line of travel though. The elevator descended rapidly from higher floors. This forced him to stop just short of the main floor, and his escape.

As soon as the plump boss ordered, the five men in the front row raised their blasters at Zorn while the back five raised their hands through the ranks of the front row, ki glaring from their hands. Suddenly, ki blasts from the blasters and the guards' hands rang out, headed directly for Zorn's location. Zorn stood his ground strong, knowing that he would show them who the strongest fighter in the room was. From a strong stance, arms bent at a ninety degree angle, fists clenched, Zorn screamed out as the blasts approached.

”KIAIAAAAAAAAAA!” Zorn screamed.

Zorn's scream filled the warehouse, echoing throughout the building, as the invisible sonic wave of his scream spread and came into contact with the blasts fired from his enemies, they exploded. Each one blowing to nothingness as Zorn's scream stopped them. The back row of guards lowered their hands in disbelief while the guards with blasters in the front row shook with horror at the ease Zorn's blocking of the blasts. Zorn stood with a grin, still in his stance, staring through the guards and directly into the face of the syndicate boss.

”It will take more than that to get rid of me, you murderous bastard!” Zorn yelled at the syndicate boss as the fat man's face showed a stare of fear back at the Saiyan, but then diminished.

”Nice trick my boy, but your luck won't last forever. Get him!” the boss screamed at his guards.

The first row of guards with blasters charged forward, blasting away at Zorn, while the five unarmed fighters stood guard near the boss. Zorn turned to his left and began to run, dodging the blasters' shots as they came in. The guards gave chase until Zorn finally dove behind a stack of wooden crates sitting in the corner of the warehouse across from the stairs he had entered from. Blasts continued to pour on into the crates as Zorn sat behind them, determining his next move. He could feel the stack of crates behind him getting thinner and thinner as the blasts grew ever closer to him.

From out of one of the exploding crates, a large ax with sling strap flew over Zorn's right shoulder and stuck into the wall, blade first. Zorn's eyes lit up at the close call, but saw an added advantage staring back at him. Zorn moved quickly, grabbing the battle ax from the wall and slinging it around his neck and shoulder, the blade of the ax hanging near his lower back. He then turned and sprinted out from behind the box and leaped into the air, landing on a catwalk above. The blasters tried to keep up with his movements, but the guards at their triggers were too slow.

As Zorn continued to run across the catwalk and the guards dismally attempted to get him in the sights of their blasters, Zorn was assessing their speed and fighting ability. It wasn't hard to figure out that the guards relied solely on their blasters, but were not even well trained in battle formations to maximize their ability as a squad. Grouped with their lack of speed, their sloppy formation would be their down fall. Zorn used a speed teleport and was instantly in the midst of the guards. The guard standing in their center was the first in Zorn's sights as he grabbed the blaster attached to his arm, then spun to the side to avoid a blast. As Zorn spun to avoid the blast, he aimed it at another guard's legs, where the blast hit directly and took that guard down.

After the blast had past and taken out one of the five guards, Zorn still held the first guard's wrist and blaster in his right hand. To neutralize this guard, Zorn raised his left arm high and then lowered his left elbow hard on the forearm of the guard, smashing both the blaster and the bone of the guard. Zorn then used a short left kick to make the guard kneel and finally knocked him unconscious with a right knee to his face. As soon as the unconscious guard dropped to the floor motionless, a blast from the next closest guard rang out at Zorn. He side stepped the blast and rushed the guard fast, grabbing the surprised guard by the neck, lifting him up and choke slamming him into the concrete floor of the warehouse, rendering him useless. Only two more blaster guards left to take down.

The final two guards stood shoulder to shoulder and opened up their blasters on Zorn. Zorn crossed his arms, allowing the under powered blasts crash into his self made shield. Dust and smoke began to form around until he could no longer be seen. The two guards finally stopped firing, their blasters smoking, and laughed about their success at taking the Saiyan down. But, from out of the smoke flew Zorn, hurdling through the air at the shocked guards. Zorn stretched out his fists, connecting them to the guards' chests and driving them backwards until they struck the wall and went through it. The five blaster guards had been neutralized with no chance of them becoming effective again any time soon.

Zorn then turned his attention back to the five fighters who still stood guard in front of the syndicate boss. He slowly walked back to a position where we was directly facing them from about twenty feet away. The boss still had a large grin on his face while his fighters stood with their arms crossed, peering expressionless at Zorn. Zorn assumed the same position as the fighters he stood across from, the battle axe still hanging over his shoulder.

”Who's next?” Zorn asked as he scanned the five fighters with his eyes, while at the same time his scouter scanned their power levels, which Zorn found to be extremely unimpressive.

Suddenly, the boss started clapping and chuckling like this was all a game to him. ”Good show, good show Zorn. I am quite impressed with you, but those were mere simpletons when it comes to fighters. Let us see how you match up against real fighters like the ones that stand in front of you now.”

”Real fighters? I see no real fighters here. The only warrior in this room is me.”

”Why you arrogant Saiyan monkey! Your race's pride shall be your downfall!”

”Hold your tongue, you scumbag. If you believe that you have fighters, lets put them to the test. It will not take me long to defeat them all at once.”

”You must be joking? You will not stand a chance against five fighters at once. Your arrogance is blinding you, but it is your judgment Saiyan.”

”Yes it is and Hell shall judge the fate of your fighters!”

Zorn uncrossed his arms and assumed a powerful stance as his black and red aura began to flow. Zorn was powering up, but at the same time preparing his attack in which his five opponents had no clue was coming. Zorn continued, his aura enveloping him. He then began to push his ki out through his feet for his signature move. The ki flowed through the ground, making its way towards the five fighters as the concrete flooring began to spider crack. When the spider crack reached the five fighters, Zorn came up out of his stance, straightening his body with his arms bent at a ninety degree angle at his sides, yelling loudly.

From the ground, a wave of ki exploded, hitting the five fighters hard with the wave and chunks of concrete. The wave sent the five fighters flying into the air, where they either crashed into or through the wall of the warehouse. Zorn finished off the last of his attack before coming to rest in a strong and defiant stance, glaring at the boss. The boss looked around the warehouse at his defeated fighters and then back at the defiant Zorn. He nodded his head to the fighter and closed his eyes momentarily before a grin struck his fat face.

”You are a great fighter indeed Zorn. You took care of them with ease, proving that you are quite powerful. Join me and the syndicate and you will be more powerful that you can ever imagine. You shall rule our enemies and be paid handsomely for your skills and abilities. What do you say?” offered the syndicate boss.

”Tempting offer...” Zorn said as he closed his eyes. Zorn waited momentarily but then opened his eyes and was instantly at the bosses throat, his strong hand wrapped around it. The fat boss wrapped his hands around Zorn's wrist as he gasped for air.

”...But I would never join a murderous, thieving, cold hearted wretch like you. Now, before I decide what to do with you, tell me how you knew I was coming,” Zorn asked.

”The bounds of our reach are limitless. Not even your precious allies in the military are out of our reach. But that is all I am saying about that, because I am not a snitch. So go ahead, arrest me. The syndicate will never die and I will be out of prison in no time,” gasped the fat boss whose feet were now up off the ground.

”Hah! You really think that you are going to live? You have another thing coming. You don't deserve to live after all of the hurt and pain you have caused.”

Zorn carried the fat boss up the stairs, grabbing a length of rope as he did. When he reached the catwalk, Zorn threw the boss down on the catwalk and tied one end of the rope to the boss' feet and the other to railing of the catwalk. He then scooped up the boss and threw him over the railing of the catwalk. The boss fell towards the warehouse floor screaming until the rope held taught, dangling the boss just a few feet above it. Zorn then walked back down the stairs walking over to the dangling boss and steadied him so that the boss did not moved.

Zorn then swung his newly found battle axe off his shoulder and grasped the handle in both hands, looking at the shiny, sharp edge of the blade. Zorn then sized up his swing, lining it up to the boss' neck.

”You are supposed to be the good guy! This isn't how good people operate. This isn't justice!”

”Letting you live would be unjust to all of the people that you have hurt and victimized. This is their justice!”

Zorn spun around and swung the battle axe, lopping off the head of the boss. The head rolled across the floor of the warehouse as blood spurted from the neck of the newly formed corpse. Zorn looked at the hanging corpse, then wiped the blade of his axe on the expensive suit the boss was wearing and slung it back over his shoulder, carrying it behind his back once again. He then made his way to the door, intent to make it to the next heavily guarded warehouse where the syndicate would surely be waiting for him.

The screaming sound of shearing metal echoed down a hallway lined with apartments. A metal elevator door came shooting out of its frame crushing one of three sentries posted to guard it. Osiris stood atop the mangled door, his head snapped from side to side. He shot to his right and delivered a hard elbow strike to the man’s face. He could feel bones give way under the pressure of the blow. The tall pale-skinned man slammed to the ground unconscious but still alive. A loud gurgling sound came from the body as blood poured out onto the ground. Osiris snarled in disgust at the sound. Lifting a foot he drove his heel down on the man’s throat. The noise immediately stopped leaving an unsettling sound. Osiris whipped around with his cloak swirling around him. His royal purple eyes met the amber eyes of a young Keliouxian.

The blue haired man stood there with a blaster pointed at the half demon. His thin hands shook violently as sweat ran down his face. He was the polar opposite of the calm and collected figure he was pointing his weapon at even though he looked roughly the same age. A small explosion echoed through the bland hallway as it was lit up with a yellow beam. A wall blew to pieces as the destructive energy rammed head long into concrete. Smoke and dust almost instantly filled the whole corridor. The wide eyed Keliouxian snapped his head back and forth desperately searching for any trance of his enemy.

“For a second there is didn’t think you would pull the trigger. I wish you hadn’t done that. The noise really hurts my ears.”

Osiris slammed his shin into the man’s arm and side before he could spin around. The kick hurled his opponent into the wall like a rag doll. Skittering across the ground, the blaster the other fighter was holding stopped several feet away. Wheezing, the Keliouxian tried to pick his face up off the ground. His right arm hung limply from his body, and he only managed to flop over onto his back. Osiris lifted his foot up to repeat the throat stomp he had performed on the other guard.

“Pl-please, I’m j-just a m-mercenary. It’s just a job, p-please.”

“Fine, I won’t be the one to kill you.”

Setting his foot back on the blue carpeted ground the half demon stared at the young fighter. His gaze was cold and lacked any compassion. There was no empathy in Osiris’ heart for his enemy. It was disgusting to him that someone would try to kill another person for a paycheck and then turn around and beg for their lives. A twinge of hatred echoed from the back of his mind, but it did not feel entirely his own. The half demon reached down with his free hand and grabbed the mercenary by the ankle. Without saying a word he took off running down the hallway once more, stopping only to sling another blaster over his shoulder. The Keliouxian flailed and yelled in protest, but was ignored entirely.

Rounding a corner more syndicate fighters were flooding out of the stairwell and heading straight at the half demon. Twisting his body Osiris threw the young mercenary into the incoming mob. Just as he threw the hallway lit up blaster fire. Dozens of energy beams exploded against the Kelioxian’s flesh as he screamed out in pain just before his lifeless body disappeared in a collection of explosions. With his newly freed hand Osiris surged Ki into a balled fist. Jumping up as hard as he could the demon smashed his knuckles into the reinforced concrete blowing a huge hole into it. As he came up through the floor he suddenly found himself on the main floor of the building. His feet touched down just as the rest of the structure over the hallway beneath collapsed down, burying the soldiers below.

Quickly moving out of the way of the collapsing section of the floor, Osiris never stopped running. Something perplexed him though. There were no guards on this floor, the one he thought would be the most heavily defended. Immediately, armed men came flooding out of the stairs and elevators chasing after him. Diving out the nearest window, the cloaked figure emerged into the daylight with sparkling shards of glass flying around him. His eyes widened as he saw what was around him. The entire former police force was standing in front of him. Gritting his teeth Osiris slowly set down the two blasters he had stolen and stared into the face of a man he recognized all too well.

“So, you finally decided to show your face Chief Havan. I’m so glad you brought all your goons. We have a score to settle.” Osiris spoke in a growling voice and he slowly pulled the pure white blade from its sheath. Stretching out his left arm the snaking blade more than doubled the demon’s reach. “None of you are leaving here alive. You abandoned your duties as protectors for your own personal gain. I’M GOING TO MURDER EVERY SINGLE ONE OF YOU!” The half demon rushed forward with hate burning in his eyes as his irises turned from their deep purple to a brilliant crimson.

A burst of laughter cut through the air. “Not today boy,”Havan spoke with a smug air. He was older than most of the fighters, but his body and mind were still well prepared for battle. His long teal hair whipped through the air as he side stepped quickly. Behind him was a group of four men all bracing their right arm as a huge ball of Ki swelled inside the half circle the men’s palm’s made. The bright orange ball looked like a small sun for a second, but then extended forward creating a raging river of destructive energy.

Osiris sneered at this latest attempt to end his life. A warm tingling sensation ran up the half demon’s arm from the blade it held. I hear you Zar’rock. Let’s show these fools what they have brought upon themselves.

Having finished the first boss, Zorn was now preparing to move through the shipping yard to the next warehouse where he was sure to find the next boss. He now knew that the syndicate was waiting for him, but how did they know? Osiris was right. There was a rat and whoever it was knew all the plans for the entire mission to take down the syndicate. Before leaving the warehouse, Zorn attempted to radio Osiris to let him know that his intuition about a rat was correct.

”Osiris come in, this is Zorn. You were correct about the rat. It has to be someone on the inside because they were waiting for me. So it has to be someone that knows all the details about the entire mission. Do you copy?” Zorn said as he waited for a response. All he got in return was static, which slightly panicked Zorn.

Shit. What is going on over there? I wish that I could go check it out, but I have a job to finish here and I can't stray from that. Osiris is capable of taking care of himself. His ear piece probably just got damaged during fighting.

Zorn, after reassuring himself that his friend was fine and taking care of business even though he couldn't contact him, busted out of the warehouse and moved out into the bright sunlight of a high Cauldron day. The suns of Cauldron were high in the sky and the temperature outside was now broiling. Zorn sprinted along the walls of the warehouses, keeping an eye out for any guards that would get in his way, but he found now as he approached the warehouse that he had saw earlier in the morning with numerous guards atop, that there were none. Zorn leaped up onto the the roof of the warehouse, but saw no one there.

With nothing stopping him and knowing that the guards had more than likely moved inside, Zorn made his way through the roof top door and down the stairs to the main level. On the inside of steel structure, there was no sign of guards as Zorn scanned the large warehouse. The only thing Zorn saw was numerous rows of shelves stacked with crates, boxes, and various other goods. There were several forklifts and flat bed trucks sitting near a large roll up door. Then there was the large, red overstuffed chair with a slender, attractive woman sitting in it with her right leg crossed over top of the left. The woman was dressed in a tight, one piece black suit that was more suited for athletic activity. Her jet black hair was pulled back into a tight pony tail and her dark green eyes were locked on Zorn as he walked down the stairs and stepped onto the concrete floor.

”I see that you have been successful in taking out the old man and his guards, even though they were waiting for you. I take it that he is in custody now with the army?” says the slender female.

”Actually, his dead, headless corpse is hanging from the rafters of the warehouse that I found him in. I am not taking any prisoners today. I don't have the time or the patience for it at this point,” responded Zorn with a stone face.

”You killed him? I would have expected that from Osiris, but not from you Zorn. Even though you are a Saiyan, I did not think that you had it in you to kill so mercilessly,” she said with a shocked look on her face.

”What can I say, Osiris rubbed off on me. And it's not like the members of this syndicate have been charitable. You all deserve everything you get and you shall all receive your judgment in hell. Now I am tired of talking. Where are your guards at?”

”Oh Zorn. I am not as helpless as that fat old man was. I fight for myself. I don't need guards to stand around and hold my hand,” she said as she unfolded her legs and pushed herself out of her seat with a mischievous smile upon her face.

Once she stood up, she brought her left arm up and began hitting small buttons on her wrist watch with the index finger of her right hand. Suddenly, from Zorn's right side, a large, black, steel wired net flew out from deep in the shadows. It carried Zorn's heavy framed body across floor and pinned the Saiyan against warehouse wall. After he hit the wall, the net tightened around his body, making it practically impossible to move. The only part of his body that was free and able to move was his head. The beautiful female boss sauntered over to Zorn where she placed her hands on the chest plate of his armor and placed a gently kiss on the left cheek of the Saiyan, and then backed away, placing her hands on her hips.

”You're cute. It's too bad that you are gonna have to die.”

She stepped forward bringing her right hand up and swiping it across Zorn's face, drawing blood from his left cheek with her cat like nails. She then backhanded him across the face, drawing blood from the corner of his mouth. Zorn attempted to wriggle free of the wire netting but was unable to move any serious amount. The female boss just smiled and shook her head before planting a hard right upper cut into the stomach of Zorn, knocking the wind out of him. One thing Zorn could tell, just from that one punch, was that she was strong, but he could not tell the entire extent of her power.

Zorn had to figure out a way to get out of the netting so that he could defend himself. The strong boss woman grabbed Zorn by his throat and began to choke him until he almost stopped breathing. When she let go he gasped for breath just before she grabbed his hair and slammed his head back into the concrete wall. Zorn heard the wall crack as his head hit the wall, giving the clever Saiyan an idea. He took a hard right hook to the chin and then another upper cut to the stomach before she finally stepped back and returned to her chair to overlook her work.

Now was the time. Zorn tensed his body, a look of anger and rage filled his eyes. Suddenly his aura burst out from around his body as his power level rose rapidly. The power he emanated from his body created a sudden shock wave as he maximized his power. The force of the shock wave made the wall behind Zorn crumble and he fell backwards through the wall, but the netting now had nothing to hold the Saiyan to, releasing him from his temporary prison. He stood now and walked through the hole he had just created, his red and black aura still emanating around him. His gaze was set upon the bedazzled woman who had trapped him, who was now standing up looking at the Saiyan in awe.

”But how?! How did you break free of my netting? That netting was unbreakable!” she screamed.

”Yes the netting might have been unbreakable, but the concrete wall that it was held to was not. Now it is my turn to do some damage. Your fun time is over you evil wench!

Zorn rushed the female, moving quickly, added by the use of his ki. The boss attempted to punch the Saiyan be he simply moved to fast for her. He ducked under her punch a drove his right fist into her rib cage, severely cracking several of her ribs loudly. She yelped in pain as she dropped to the ground and Zorn stepped backwards a few feet, continuing to keep his aura flowing. She whimpered as she held her side, but then looked up slightly at Zorn. She finally raised her right hand up, facing Zorn, with her fingers spread apart. She suddenly fired a fast Super Dodonpa at Zorn. At only a few feet away, Zorn had to act quickly.

Zorn quickly raised his own right hind, pointing his index finger and firing a One Finger Blast. The two beams met head on, but their meeting point was very close to Zorn. With his power level raised, Zorn was able to feed his beam and push the boss' beam backwards. She desperately tried to push back, but she was not strong enough. Finally, Zorn pushed through and over took her beam, which hit her and created a hole in her right shoulder. She was now unable to move, thoroughly wounded. Zorn walked over and crouched down next to her as her breathing became labored and tears ran down her cheeks.

”Please...have...mercy...on me. Please...don't...kill...me.”

”You decided your own fate long ago. This isn't my judgment. Like I said before, you will be judged in hell for your actions,” Zorn said has he stood back up.

Zorn pulled the battle axe from behind his back and gasped the handle with both hands. He held it up, looking at the sharp edge of the blades. He then rotated his hips and torso, bringing the axe behind him, ready to strike. The female boss' eyes widened as she saw the axe go back and gave one last weep. Then Zorn torqued his body and spun the axe around at the boss' torso, cutting into her but not cutting her in two. The life instantly left her body and she was still, the whimpering ceasing. Zorn pulled the axe out of her body and wiped the blood off the blade on his pant leg. He then slung the axe back over his neck and shoulder, carrying it blade down once again on his back. Suddenly, a transmission came across his ear piece.

”Zorn we could really use your assistance when you get the chance. I believe the warehouse that me and my team entered held the overlord of the syndicate. We are swarmed by guards and are unable to get to the boss at the moment. If we don't get some assistance soon, I am afraid he is going to get away. We are in hanger four sixty-two. Hurry!” Captain Chavez said with blaster shots being heard in the background.

”Copy Chavez, I am on my way!” Zorn responded.

Zorn was now alarmed knowing that more lives hung in the balance and it was his obligation to help those men to safety and not allow the final boss to get away. He had to hurry. Zorn spun and sprinted quickly out the hole in the wall of the warehouse he had created. There was no time to be quiet and careful. Zorn sprinted into the open, not caring who saw him now. He had to get to that hanger to help the Chavez and his men.

Osiris plunged the pure white steel of his zweihander into the oncoming beam. At first it seemed the fiery orange energy would overwhelm the half demon as he was stopped in his tracks by the force of the impact. The beam tried to surge past the hilt and unleash its destructive force upon the cloaked figure’s body. Suddenly, the energy beam seemed to implode on itself. The bright orange light was sucked into the blade of Zar’rock. The once raging river of destructive energy was now quickly dwindling into nothing. When it was all said and done, Osiris stood without a scratch on him. The white metal of the zweihander was a bright orange as though it were just taken from the heat of the forge. Slowly though, the color began to retract from the tip of the blade back towards the handle. All the Ki of the attack poured into the half demon’s arm and gradually the rest of his body.

“That was refreshing. Enough of these silly game, you are only delaying the inevitable.” Sounds of explosions echoed in the distance. Osiris made a mental note that he needed to move quickly. If he did not free the hostages before the military initiates the final phase of the plan and pushes into the warehouse district, everything could fall apart.

The half demon charged forward once more. The four men that had fired the beam needed to be taken out first and foremost. To be distracted and taken unprepared by such an attack would do serious damage. Things would not be so simple though. These were not the hired weaklings of the syndicates. These were well trained, well equipped, and well disciplined men that had worked together for years.

Chief Havan bellowed out orders in a loud booming voice. “Second squad move up to point! Third and fourth squad take the flanks! Six through nine take up supporting positions and open fire! First squad create a defensive perimeter around the cannon team. Don’t let this bastard get through. He might be strong, but he is all alone out here!”

A shield wall of black riot shields was suddenly blocking Osiris’ way in every direction except directly behind him. A dim blue like emanated from the shields and covered the front of them in a thin layer of energy. The men wielding these advanced defenses took a knee as dozens upon dozens of blasters came up over the tops and lit up with great bursts of light. These blasters were different though. They seemed to be directly attached to the men’s arms and rather than being the source of the blast itself, it simply amplified the attack coming from the soldiers. Osiris could see the difference in the speed and power of the blasts themselves.

Sliding to a stop the cloaked fighter tried to figure out his next move. The area around him was closing fast as the mercenaries from the towers came to enclose the circle around the back of him. He was out of time. Bright bursts of light came flying at him from every direction. Bending his knees to a ninety degree angle Osiris launched himself off the ground at an angle. He hoped his trajectory would carry him to a nearby warehouse. As he soared though the several of the soldiers got off lucky shots that slammed into the half breed sending him tumbling through the air. He hit the hard ground with his shoulder, rolled forward, and was mid stride when his feet touched the ground once more. Quickly ducking behind the building he had originally been aiming for he took a moment to breath.

Fuck! I’m not equipped to handle huge numbers like these. I seriously need to learn those techniques that Zorn has. All my attacks are up close and personal. If I were to fight like that I would get overwhelmed by these goons. The main forces must have been called out of hiding to guard the perimeter once we were in. That way we would be trapped just like we were trying to trap the syndicates. That should mean that there won’t be a shit ton of more fighters in the middle of the warehouse district unless they are protecting someone or something. If I can just lead them through the allies, I could get them into smaller groups!

The sound of heavy boots hitting the ground spurred Osiris into sprinting across an open road way and into another alley. Blaster fire chased him from one building to another. He repeated this process of waiting and sprinting over and over again. Each time sprinting in a different direction until his enemies were frustrated and spread out trying to encircle him. Only the squads of the former police force stayed in any type of organized groups. Now was Osiris’ chance though.

Jumping out from around a corner the half demon bounced of a wall only to turn and bounce off the opposite side of the alleyway. Three times he did this until he bounded out of the alley and onto an actually street. A puddle of blood slowly spread out from the shadow of the alley and pooled around his black boots. A mob of mercenaries caught sight of him down the street and took off in pursuit. Osiris made a lazy attempt to get away as he ducked into another nearby passage. Couching behind a large barrel he waited. He heard the shouts and pounding feet as the mercenaries poured into the corridor. Osiris leapt out and rammed his sword through the first four men. Tearing the sword back out of their chests they collapsed to the ground. Surging forward over their dead bodies the demon danced through the rest of the group. His sword sung as it sliced through the air leaving bloody streaks in its path. Screaming erupted from the alley and Osiris jumped up onto an overlooking rooftop and laid down flat. He watched the horror show of his own work. A dozen men laid upon the ground with missing limbs. Every one of them howling in the last seconds of their life before the last of their precious blood was used to quench the dry Cauldron earth.

Dark violet eyes watched on as other members of the syndicates came running in to help. Within minutes several large groups had showed up and were scouring the area. The only thing that kept Osiris hidden was the fact that his black cloak blended in perfectly with the black tarp he had taken refuge underneath, along with some crates. Soon the sound of screaming had stopped and only the sounds of men shuffling around and calling out to one another broke eerie silence. The mercenaries were helpless to do anything for those the half demon had left in pieces.

Just as he had expected the former police force kept their distance and stayed in their tight formations. Still, there were not enough of them to form an effective perimeter all on their own. Instead they stayed in much the same pattern as when he had first come out of the skyscraper. This left large gaps unprotected and those filled by the mercenary force were not much better. His eyes locked onto a man walking around to the other side of the building he was on by himself.

Him, he looks about my size.

Osiris unclipped the sheath from his back and took off his cloak. He crawled out from under the tarp and across the hot roof until he was on the other side. Quickly flipping over the edge he landed in front of the mercenary. In one swift motion Osiris snatch the helmet respirator combo off from his head and punched the pale fighter’s temple hard enough to dent his skull. The half demon grabbed the body by the front of the grey combat suit and threw him over a shoulder. He then jogged over to a door and kicked it in like it was nothing. Once inside he torn off the mercenary’s one piece suit and put it on himself along with the helmet. Finally he picked up the man’s blaster and jogged back outside as a dozen men approached.

“What was that noise?

“Was just checking the warehouse, in case he managed to slip in there while we weren;t looking.”

“Good idea, tell everyone to check the surrounding buildings. No reason he wouldn’t go inside trying to find his friends. Too bad he is looking on the wrong end of the district. Let’s get back to work; this son of a bitch ain’t killing me today.”

Oh how wrong you are fool, Osiris thought to himself as he walked back towards the others who were searching. Gradually he made his way over towards the ex police force unit that contained the four men that had fired the powerful beam. Suddenly pulling up his blaster he shouted and opened fire at an empty roof top.

“There he goes! He is going south!”

Everyone in the twenty man squad turned in the direction he was firing. Immediately he dropped the weapon and charged forward. Unloading two upper cuts into the closest men that formed the defensive perimeter, they both went tumbling across the ground limply. On a dead sprint Osiris grabbed two of four men by the throat and shot hundreds of Ki needles into their wind pipes before tossing their bodies’ protectors moving in with riot shields and what seemed to be batons with electricity skittering across them.

A fist came within inches of the half demon’s face as he spun around. The two remaining men that had created the beam were throwing unified combinations at him. The disguised fighter was hard pressed to fend off the blows at they seemed to come from all different directions at once. Soon that feeling was reality as more of the ex police force entered the fray with their energized weapons and shields. Osiris knew that finding out what exactly those weapons did first hand was not a good idea.

“Enough of this!” The half demon caught a flying kick form the synchronized warriors and threw him into his allies. A sound akin to a miniature thunder crack sounded through the air. The thrown fighter hit the glowing riot shields and was immediately repelled in a violent nature. Bouncing off the shield wall with even more force than he was originally tossed the warrior smashed into his partner, knocking them both to the ground. A sudden savagery overtook Osiris at that moment of seeing his opponents on the ground and still alive.

The protectors suddenly stopped their forward advance and several stepped back away from the half demon. One man tore off his mask his dropped his shield, tore off his respirator and vomited all across the ground. After that a dead stillness came over that small part of the battle field. Osiris moved his gaze from man to man around him. Terror filled their eyes to the brim as they looked onto a sight they had not thought possible. Four of the syndicate’s strongest fighters laid dead after being rendered helpless by a mere teenager. Two of them slain with great subtlety that left them seemingly unscathed, save for the blood running from their mouths. The other two were laid low with a such brutality that was hard to think real. Their skulls were smashed beyond recognition. Two heavy black boots stood where the men’s head should have been. Fragments of bone and brain sprayed out across the ground like their heads had exploded from the inside out.

Even Osiris himself was surprised by the sight. It had been a long time since he spilled blood in such a manner. Still, there was no room for remorse or doubt. He disappeared from sight instantly, and relocated himself behind one of the ex officers. With a quick hand motion he wrenched the man’s neck backwards, snapping it. He snatched the riot shield from the corpse as it fell and then fled as the other syndicate fighters drew near. As he ran he could feel blaster fire small into the stolen shield until he got into another alley way.

The enemy had learned from its mistake though. Mercenaries blocked the opposite end of the pathway and opened fire. The half demon shifter the shield around and kept on running and barreled his way through. The feeble attempt was not enough to bring him to a halt, or maybe it was. Osiris suddenly felt himself hit the ground and drop the shield. A foot came dropping down towards his chest forcing him to roll away. Jumping back to his feet he saw the reason why he could not make a free break. Havan stood there with the half demon’s cloak and sheathed sword in hand.

“Your caught now boy. You have nowhere else to run and without your little sword you don’t stand a chance against me. I have seen how you fight and I don’t think you can take a real opponent without it. You got nothing but brute strength and quick feet. There is no chance you can take an experienced warrior like me.

“You wouldn’t be so smug without all your goons around to help you.”

Havan snarled, “Fine, you want a fair fight lets have one, just you and me.”

Osiris countiuned talking in a cool even manor even as tremors of hate ran through his body. “It was more of a fair fight before.”

“For that you are going to die by your own sword!”

Havan pulled the long snaking blade from its sheath and tried to point it at the half demon. The tip immediately dropped to the ground and the keliouxian’s eyes widened in surprise. Osiris was on him in a heartbeat. A glowing fist slammed into the former police chiefs stomach and then another and another. Half a dozen blows hit the man in the stomach in but a handful of seconds. As the teal headed man dropped to his knees Osiris tore Zar’rock from his grip.

“You made two mistakes Havan. One, you let down your guard and two, you dared lay your filthy hands on my blade. No one wields this sword but me.”

Two dull thuds left the battle fields around Osiris silent once more as Havan’s body fell left and his head fell right. For a second it appeared as though the morale of the force had finally been broken. Then another of the outfitted police officers raised his hand and started shouting orders, for about two second anyway. That just happened to be how long it took the half demon to run him through with his blade.

This was the breaking point.

Large groups of the men turned tail and ran as hard as they could. Those that hesitated did not do so for long. Within a minute just over a hundred men saw a fear they could not handle and ran like cowards. Dark violet eyes scanned the fleeing masses until he found the burly mercenary he had spoken to while disguised. Sprinting after him he caught the man by the back of the neck and threw him to the ground.

“Damn it, please don’t kill me!”

“Tell me where the all the captured are.”

“They were moved through some underground tunnels to one of the big warehouses on the other side of the district. Its ware house four sixty-two. They will probably be in the underground section away from the other hostages.”

Osiris narrowed his eyes at the man. ”What other hostages?”

“The other team you came here with, or at least the guys not working with us. Please, don’t ki- The words were cut short as the man looked down at his stomach to see a sword coming out of it. “But, I told you what you wanted?” Confusion and fear colored the man’s voice as he dropped back on the ground and laid silently, never to speak again.

The half demon pulled Zar’rock out of the man’s gut and walked back over to the corpse of Havan. There he collected his things and took a hand held radio device. While he ran through the now emptied alleyways he punched numbers into the device. It took several minutes, but he finally managed to access the frequency he wanted. Osiris only hoped he had been in time to warn his friend.

“Zorn, come in. The hostages have been moved. They are on your side of the district in warehouse four sixty-two. They turned the men in Chavez’s unit. It sounds like they have most of our soldiers held captive except for some in Chavez’s unit. You got to move fast to get over there before they figure out that the shit just hit the fan. Any minute the final sweep will commence and the military will tighten the noose. If we can’t get the hostages by then there is no telling what is going to happen. I will meet you over there as soon as I can.”

A short burst of heavy breathing and blaster shoots came back as a response. Then it cut back to static once more. Osiris poured on the speed figuring that meant Zorn had already walked into some kind of trap and was too busy to respond. Hot wind rushed past his face once more and he swore to whatever gods there may be that if he showed up to find another massacre he would burn the universe to the ground for the cruelty of life. He was on the verge of victory or profound insanity. No matter how hard he ran, Osiris still felt like he was moving in slow motion.

NO NO NO! I have lost too much! I won’t lose this fight! I WON’T FAIL THEM AGAIN!

Zorn found it eerie that no guards were firing their blasters at him as he ran through the alleys between the numerous warehouses. Zorn shifted his eyes back and forth quickly, looking for signs of a trap and also the numbers that marked each warehouse. He had to make it to four sixty-two and in a hurry to help Chavez and his men against the syndicate. Zorn couldn't understand why or who had set them up and given up their plans to the syndicate. All Zorn knew was that he would be walking directly into carnage after listening to the transmission sent by Chavez with blaster fire in the background. Zorn picked up his past, moving ever quicker towards warehouse four sixty-two.

Finally, Zorn arrived at warehouse four sixty-two, still hearing the blaster fires and yelling coming from inside of the warehouse. Zorn stood outside of the side door of the warehouse with his back to the wall. Zorn took a deep breath and prepared to go in fighting, remembering that his allies would be mingled in among the enemies as they fought and he would have to be careful. He swung the door open and rushed in, only to find no fighting going on inside of the warehouse, but all of the noises continued. Zorn looked around frantically trying to decipher what exactly was going on. Then Zorn saw what frightened him more than anything. The rat was Chavez!

Captain Chavez, Commander Javier's right hand man, was leaning against the hull of a large ship, the cargo doors on the side wide open. Inside the cargo bay sat a very fat man in a cushioned chair, staring directly at Zorn as he stood astonished. Sitting on the floor of the cargo hold was a small device from which the noises of battle originated from. Chavez, with a sheepish smile on his face, pressed a button that stopped the battle noises instantly. His eyes then darted to his left and Zorn's followed his to find a few of Chavez's troops holding the rest of their counterparts hostage. Their hands were restrained behind their backs as they sat on the concrete floor with their mouths gagged.

”You didn't see this coming at all, did you Saiyan? You never would have guessed that the person turning on the whole battle plan would have been me? Haha, I have been an inside member of the syndicate for some time now my friend. It was predetermined for you and your friends to fail miserably. Although I am quite surprised that you made it this far. But this is where the road ends you miserable Saiyan monkey!” Chavez said.

”We knew there was a rat, but you are right, I never suspected you simply because I thought your pride would be too much for even money to overcome.”

”Money may not come over pride, but the promise of power and control does. And that is what sweetened this deal enough for me to take.”

”Power and control over what?! Defenseless, innocent people?! That is not power, that is sadism! You even turned on your own men, who trusted you with their lives!”

”They had their chances, just like the others but chose to turn it down. Don't make it sound like they were so defenseless against what happened. They are trained soldiers who cowered in a time where only the mightiest of fighters survive.”

”The mightiest of fighters, huh? Well let's see who the mightiest fighter is between the two of us Chavez. What do you say? You and me, one on one?” Zorn challenged.

”Why not. Then I can show you that Keliouxians are superior fighters to you worthless monkeys,” Chavez said as he righted himself from leaning against the ship's hull and began to walk towards the Saiyan.

”No weapons, no interference from anyone. Just you and me, hand to hand combat,” Zorn said as he unarmed himself of his axe, sliding it across the floor and out of the way.

”Fine by me Zorn,” Chavez said with his arms extended straight out to his sides at shoulder height. ”Enough of this chit chat.”

Chavez flung both arms forward, firing a blue Energy Dan at Zorn. Zorn moved quickly to his right as the Energy Dan flew by him and blew up a wooden crate against the wall by the door. Zorn rushed at the seemingly defenseless Chavez, cocking back his right fist and firing it at Chavez's jaw. Chavez moved quickly, ducking out of the way and then coming up with a right upper cut of his own. Zorn reacted quickly, blocking the upper cut with his left knee and grabbing Chavez's head. Zorn then pulled Chavez's head towards his right knee as he brought it forward, smashing Chavez in the face and sending him sprawling across the concrete floor.

Chavez slid to a stop and then got up, wiping a bit of blood from the corner of his mouth. He rose his tall frame to his feet and smiled widely. The tall Keliouxian charged forward, reaching Zorn and swinging his long right leg at Zorn's midsection, where it connected with Zorn's ribs, but was protected well by the Saiyan's armor. Zorn quickly fired a right and then a left straight punch to the midsection of Chavez who took the blows well, but Zorn could tell he felt the effects of the blows.

Chavez countered with a quick right kick that connected on Zorn's left knee, buckling it and bringing Zorn to the ground on his knees. Leaving the Saiyan open for another attack, Chavez spun quickly attempting to strike Zorn in the face with a right heel kick. Zorn attempted to block the kick with his hands, but missed the Keliouxian's leg. His heel struck Zorn in the face, sending him skidding backwards across the floor and into a pile of crates. Zorn, now severely angry with both himself and Chavez, made his aura burst out around him, scattering the crates and raising Zorn's power level. Finally he reached his maximum with a sudden outburst of red and black ki.

”Impressive light show Zorn, but that isn't going to help you win this fight. You can't win.”

Zorn ignored Chavez's rantings and walked forward calmly on the outside, but the Saiyan was burning with rage on the inside. Zorn confidently and cockily walked deliberately at the tall Keliouxian fighter who looked puzzled at the Saiyan's tactics. When Zorn reached Chavez, Chavez swung his right leg around again at Zorn's ribcage. This time however, Zorn was prepared and caught the leg of Chavez, grasping it under his armpit. Zorn lifted the Keliouxian's leg higher and then swung a hard, powerful right hook directly into the side of Chavez's right knee, which he heard crunch and explode upon impact. Chavez screamed in agony as Zorn released his leg and he collapsed to the ground, pulling himself away from Zorn.

Suddenly, three blaster shots from Chavez's men hit Zorn directly in his chest plate, knocking the Saiyan over backwards. But the Saiyan was only shaken momentarily, getting back to his feet with his aura still flowing around him. More blaster shots rang out towards him, but missed. There was a sudden flash of movement as Zorn caught a glimpse of Osiris rushing into the warehouse. Zorn's focus now returned intently on Chavez who was still slithering to get away. Zorn reached down and grabbed him by the ankle on his bad leg and threw Chavez across the warehouse. Chavez crashed hard into the wall and slumped to the ground, still moaning in agony.

”This is a tough fighter?! Real fighters to slither away like snakes, they fight through the pain and endure on. Where is your honor and your pride?! Oh that's right, you sold it for power and control. A lot of good that is doing you now, isn't it?” Zorn said as he walked toward Chavez once more.

”If you kill me, your friends and allies die by the hands of the syndicate, then their blood will be on your hands and I will still have won.”

”Your wrong Chavez, Osiris just showed up and is taking care of your immoral friends as we speak. And as for you, if you die, you lose, and I win with a smile on my face.”

”You don't have the guts to kill me. You will arrest me and I will have a Court Marshall where they will find me innocent of any crimes that I have committed because I was forced into the position that I am in now. And I will be a free man.”

”All of you crime syndicate fools think that I don't have it in me to kill you. The two bosses before you thought the same thing and guess what, they are both dead right now. One is hanging headless in a warehouse while the other has an axe gash through her torso. You Court Marshall is now Chavez! Ia m the judge! And I find you guilty!”

Zorn stuck out both of his palms, the ki flowing through his body and into his arms. Small orbs of red ki formed at his finger tips and he prepared to unleash his attack. Zorn said nothing before unleashing his attack on the condemned Chavez who screeched out in horror as the attack sprung out. It was a Flash Bomb Shotgun. Hundreds of small red ki blasts were fired into Chavez's body, tearing through his flesh until, after a few moments at close range, there was nothing left of the Keliouxian's flesh or bones.

Feeling relieved that Chavez, the rat that ruined the entire battle plan, was finally dead, Zorn could now turn his attention to the final boss and help Osiris take him down. Zorn let his aura fall for the moment until he could determine what his next move was. He had the remaining men of Chavez's squad that hadn't flipped to think about, but he also had the hostages to think about. Was Osiris successful in rescuing them or not? Did Osiris need help? What was the next move?

Then, Zorn saw that Osiris had taken care of Chavez's men that had flipped to the syndicate's side and had quickly freed the remaining ally members of Chavez's task force. They had disappeared quickly to some unknown location, but at least that were out of immediate harm. Now Osiris was going after the final boss of the syndicate. With him taken out, the syndicate would be done. It would have no leadership and the lower ranks would crumble quickly. The sun outside was beginning to set on a dying syndicate.

Osiris came flying through the door of warehouse four sixty-two. The metal door came skittering across the concrete floor as the half demon shouldered it with his full momentum. Boots streaked across the smooth floor leaving long black trails as the cloaked figure finally came to a stop. Dark violet eyes darted around a large open area filled with the sounds of fighting. At first the half demon locked onto Zorn and Chavez fighting. As the keliouxian fell to the floor in aguish several blasters opened up on Zorn. Osiris snapped his head around to see three soldiers he had been fighting with no more than an hour ago holding their weapons at the ready. Again the triggers were pulled and bright flashes of light were sent flying.

Sprinting across the warehouse, Zar’rock was swung through the air cleaving the blasts in half and forcing them to explode prematurely. The white snaking blade was then turned on the traders. The half demon danced with the sword through blast after blast from the energy weapons until there was no more distance left to cover. With two swipes of the zweihander the trigger hands of the soldiers laid on the ground and were soon joined by their owners head. Several more slashes latter and those from the military that had stayed loyal were free once more. As soon as they were unbound and had the gags taken from their mouths several tried to explain what happened. Osiris just waved them off.

“Be quiet. I know enough to make the next move. Down below the others are being held. We need to move there quickly and free them as well.” A movement caught the half demon’s attention. A fat man in outlandishly nice clothes was sneaking out of the building. Osiris’ lip curled back as he instantly realized it was the man he had been looking for the entire time. The description matched perfectly to the head of the crime syndicates.

Farren how many guards are down bellow with you?

The rumbling thoughts of the elemental hound rolled through Osiris’ mind, “About fifteen. They seem to be getting pretty restless, like they are waiting for a signal. I think we need to get out of here soon.”

If it is only fifteen and you can make a distraction, then I will just send down the remainder of our assault team. Do you think that will be enough?

The beast’s mind searched through the half demon’s for a moment. “Yes, I understand. Go, we can handle this ourselves. We have the advantage of surprise this time. End this Osiris, and let this battle be over.”

The cloaked figure cut his link to Farren and then turned his attention to the groupd of soldiers quickly re arming themselves. “Go downstairs and take out the guards. There will be fifteen of them. You won’t be doing it alone though. Farren, the large creature will be making a distraction and assisting in the break out. I’m trusting you to get this done while I go after the last crime lord. Can you handle this?”

Everyman in the small unit nodded there heads and clicked there boot heels together before running off to a doorway that lead downwards. Where they ended up after that, Osiris really didn’t care. His mind was fixated on bloody revenge. He sprinted off in the direction he saw the fat man sneaking away. After a minute or two he finally came across an open hanger bay with the man running towards a white ship.

“This ends now!” Osiris’ voice echoed across the hanger and stopped the fat man dead in his tracks.

Slowly the half demon strode across the concrete. The sound of his boots clapping against the hard ground filled the air with a slow deliberate rhythm. This was the moment the half demon’s whole life seemed to lead to. All the training and fighting was for this scene. It was like years of hunting had finally brought him to his prey and now it was finally time to claim his prize. There was no rush to his movements now. He knew he had the crime lord cornered. This was a moment to savor and remember for the rest of his days.

“I won’t bother trying to buy you off or begging. I know you all to well to waste my time doing those things. Tell me though, what do you think this will solve?”

“Don’t speak to me like you know me you piece of shit. This isn’t about solving anything. This is about bring a judge upon those who have escaped it for far too long. What ever new breed of low lives that come after you is hardly my concern. There will always be people like you, and there will always be people like me with a burning hatred for your very existence.”

The fat man let out a laugh, “What will you do after you kill me Osiris? You have no reason to live without me. All your hate and anger is the only thing that gives you purpose. You need me as much as a plant needs water or sunlight. Don’t joke yourself into thinking there is something bigger out there for you.”

Osiris kept walking forward, “Stop saying my name like you know me. I am getting sick and tired of you voice. I am going to strangle the life from your body and that will be the end of this charade. I’ll parade your body through the streets to show everyone what a weak coward you truly were.”

“You would be nothing without me boy. You would have died out on the streets if I hadn’t had my men snatch you up. Everything you have is because of-“ Both of the half demon’s hands shot out and wrapped around the fat man’s throat. Two pairs of eyes meet. A set of light amber eyes stared helplessly into a set of cold merciless violet eyes.

Slowly Osiris tightened his grip as he watched the pale skin of the crime lord turn a bright red. His arms flailed around beating at the cloak figure with no effect. Suddenly a puff of blood red mist hit the youthful warrior in the face. He had been so focused on watching his victim die he stopped watching what his arms were doing. A sudden burning sensation started building in his eyes and skin. Something was terribly wrong.

What is this shit?
