“I’ve come about your job offer,” Gelidus said to the woman behind the table. She stared at him blankly, as if what he’d just said meant nothing to her. Then, after a few moments of obvious hesitation (it wasn’t every day that someone new attempted to take such a difficult hit), she pressed a button on the bottom of her desk and motioned for him to go through to door to her right. Giving the cute alien girl a quick nod in thanks, he proceeded through the door and down the hall behind it. At the end of the short corridor he was faced with another door, but this one slid up as soon as he stepped up to it. Behind the automatic door he found a second room, this one much bigger. A quick look told the changeling this was a very lavish office, the workplace of someone important. That is to say, the alien sitting behind a large, glossy-surfaced desk with stacks of papers all over and a computing unit taking up most of the desk didn’t look all that important. He had some square glasses on his crooked little nose, and a messy tuft of hair on top of his head, sandwhiched between two ears, one of which looked to only be half there, like the other half had been torn off at some point, probably in a fight as a kid. “I hear you’re interested in our most recent job. I have to ask before I brief you, what prior experience do you have with this sort of thing? Sorry if you mind me asking, it’s just that we usually know something about anyone that comes in here. You’re neither in are records, nor have we ever heard of you before,” the little man said in a reedy tone. WC: 303/1,800 Posts: 1/5 |

Before the alien could say another word, Gelidus’ long, sinewy tail, which had been rising steadily behind him, shot towards his throat, rapping itself around several times. Dragging the alien closer none to gently, Gelidus leaned in, his expression stony. “Just tell me what I need to do, I don’t have time to sit around for this idle chat,” the changeling said. Truthfully, it didn’t matter what he said, his look and tone conveyed his message perfectly. As soon as Gelidus released him, the alien sat back down abruptly before scrambling franticly for a piece of a paper in one of the many stacks on his desk. Finally he found what he was looking for, holding it out for the changeling. Before he could even reconsider putting his hand so close to Gelidus, the changeling’s tail wrapped around the alien’s forearm, squeezing until the paper dropped out of his grasp and into his own hand. With a smirk, Gelidus read over the paper then tossed it back down on the desk. “You had better pay me,” was his last statement before he turned and left the room. Staring at the changeling’s back, the alien tried to fight down his loathsome feelings. On his way out Gelidus winked at the girl at the front desk, making her blush considerably. As soon as he stepped outside, he ran over what the paper said once more in his head. A rebellion down south in the city slums, one long acknowledged but put off as too small a threat to put time into, had recently undergone a change of power. Apparently the new guy in charge was starting to meddle in the Guild’s affairs, and they decided they finally want an end put to the petty rebels. “No problem,” the changeling muttered as he lifted into the air, heading towards the southern end of the city. Setting down in the middle of the slums of palace city (which actually was the only city on Frieza #49 anyways), Gelidus couldn’t help but turn his nose at the smell of the place. Everyone in the city knew that the slums had a smell about them that one couldn’t quite put their finger on, but you never really grasped how bad it was until you were there in person. Breathing out of his mouth instead of his nose, the changeling made his way towards a small tavern nearby, one that had come up on the briefing paper he’d read. The words “Salty Dog” hung over the beat up door in old rusty iron lettering. Inside the place was a pig sty, or worse. Surveying the entire inside of the building, Gelidus decided whoever the management was, they were either lazy or they had cleaned the place up and put the tables upright again so many times, they’d just decided it was pointless. Glass fragments littered the ground all over, and most of the tables (there weren’t even any chairs or stools) were pitched over on their side. All of the customers at the bar seemed to be enthralled in some activity or another. Most of them were listening to a rough-looking alien in one corner, who seemed to be telling them some kind of story. Probably some yarn he’d thought up during a long shift on the job. If he had a job. Making his way to the bar, Gelidus managed to spot a single stool under a bunch of rubbish and picked it up with his tail as he walked. Stopping at the bar, he sat down on the stool as a greasy old bartender lumbered to him. “What can I getcha?” he asked in a deep baritone of a voice. A few scars and bumps on his face said he’d been in more than a couple fights, probably breaking up ones that started in the bar. “A water will do fine,” Gelidus said casually. A second later the bartender slammed a dirty glass filled with yellow-tinted water (with bits of dirt and grime floating around in it) in front of him then walked away. WC: 982/1,800 Posts: 3/5 |

Looking at the water with distaste, Gelidus turned back to the rowdy barroom and cleared his throat. Amazingly, everyone stopped what they were turning and stared at him blankly. A couple of guys grinned, as if setting their sights on him for a potential punching bag. Gelidus ignored it, these weren’t the folks he had business with, he just needed some information. Waiting just a couple seconds to relish in the tension that filled the room so thickly, it probably could’ve been cut like a knife, Gelidus made sure everyone was on edge, some afraid and other’s curious what he had to say. Finally he obliged. “My name is Gelidus, and I am looking for an alien named Jukari,” he said in a calm, clear tone of voice, letting his commanding voice stretch to all corners of the room. Right away there was some milling about as several of the bar’s customers shrank back into the crowd, and still then one stepped forward. “Do you know where I could find Jukari?” Gelidus asked the man pleasantly. He wasn’t afraid of offending anyone, but aggression didn’t tend to get information as quickly as staying calm. For a second the alien stared hard at Gelidus, his gaze seeming to pierce into him. The changeling half expected him to lose his nerve and step back into the crowd, but to his surprise a smirk spread slowly across his face. “Yeah… I know where you can find him,” the alien said. Already guessing at where this was going to lead, Gelidus began to size the man up. To be honest, he didn’t look like much. Gelidus noticed that in comparison to his own somewhat short stature, the man was tall, but really he was probably no more than six foot, about the average anywhere you went. He wasn’t big as far as muscle size either, but he did look like he could hold his own. “Wiry” was the word that came to Gelidus’ mind. Unable to even guess at the alien’s powerlevel, Gelidus had to rely on body language, and this guy looked confident for sure. There was no telling which way this could go, but being pretty cocky himself, the changeling had a feeling he could pull off a nice win if they were to fight. Just a feeling, of course. Finally Gelidus focused back in on what the alien was saying just as he started to speak again. “I’m Jukari,” he said with a dark grin. Oh yeah, he was very confident. For a few long moments, it felt like minutes really but was probably only seconds, Gelidus made eye contact with his new foe. “Well, you know why I’m here, I’m sure. If not, you’re not even worth my time and I’ll quickly take care of things and be on my way. How does that sound to you?” the changeling said, ending with a sarcastic statement. Once again silence reigned as the two men stared each other down. They were sharing a silent message; no more words were needed, everything that needed to be said had been, now it was up to one of them to make the first move. Sensing that perhaps through all that confidence his opponent might be having second thoughts, Gelidus decided he’d go ahead and get things going, before the alien backed out on a technicality. With a smirk he raced forward, rearing backwards and launching a powerful right hook at Jukari’s face. With his entire body put into the attack, Gelidus just managed to keep his balance, dancing on one foot after his momentum made him run completely past his opponent. Knowing he’d made solid contact, the changeling turned slowly, knowing he’d done as he intended. When he was turned around completely, he saw Jukari’s body sway before falling in a crumpled heap on the ground, the fighter completely unconscious. Glancing around the room, Gelidus could tell he wouldn’t have any trouble from anyone else in the bar. Holding his hand out, palm flat, he charged a blue energy orb in his hand. “Just cleaning up,” he said nonchalantly, staring straight at the closest customer in the bar, as if what he were about to do were nothing note-worthy. Firing the blast, the changeling held the energy beam until Jukari’s body was completely disintegrated, and then with a slight nod of his head made his way back out of the bar. --- Making his way back to his “employer’s” office, Gelidus winked at the young alien girl in the lobby again, but didn’t stop. The girl, flattered, buzzed him in without any questions or comments, and a few seconds later the changeling was standing in front of the little businessman again, his arms crossed over his chest. “The target has been taken care of, where is my money?” Gelidus said, holding a hand out to demand his pay for the job. The alien, obviously surprised at how quick Gelidus had finished the job, went to typing on his computer. Apparently finding confirmation that Jukari had been taken care of, he nodded, pleased, and pulled a bag of coins out from under his desk, putting it in Gelidus’ hand. “I’ll be back soon,” the changeling said with a wink before leaving the little guy to his work. He didn’t want to scare him with his presence any longer than he had to. WC: 1,878/1,800 Posts: 5/5 |
