"And you are sure that the Shard is there?" Maverick asked.

The Kekko was sitting next to the fireplace in his private den. There was no fire going at the moment, being that it was the middle of summer that would be stupid, but he liked to sit next to it nonetheless. Maverick felt sitting next to fireplaces while reading projected a scholarly appearance. A thick book was folded open across his knee to keep his page. He had been interrupted moments earlier with some good news. Truth be told, he was expecting the interruption and that was why he was still awake this ungodly late hour.

His right-hand man Razer stood in front of him. He held a map that was generations older than even his oldest known relative. The map was stained a yellowish brown and the corners were worn. It was nearly unreadable.

"No doubt in ma' mind that thing definitely on planet Lujati," Razer said.

So the Shard truly existed after all...and Maverick knew where it was! He suddenly felt an itch in the back of his mind, like a finger poking the stem of his brain ever so slightly. It was an old and very strange sensation. One that he had felt numerous times throughout his lifetime. It was the feeling he always got when he was close to obtaining something he wanted. When Maverick felt this itch, the treasure no longer became just a want. It became a need. The fabled treasure hunter had never left this particular itch go unscratched and he wasn't about to start now.

Unfortunately, that ridiculous law passed by some fools on Avalon prevented him from traveling about like he used to. He even heard word that one of the strongest fighters in the galaxy, a Super Saiyan no less, had been hunted down and killed like a dirty dog in the street. She fell prey to something that was being called the 'Execution Force' and barely even put up a fight. The Kekko wondered how long he would be able to search for the Shard before they tried to stop him.

Being as well-known as he was, it wasn't exactly as if he was flying under the radar so it wasn't even worth it for him to try for the Shard until everything died down. But he simply could not wait. Now that he knew it was real, now that he knew where it was, he had to have it and he had to have it now.

Simply tracking down that small scrap of paper had taken Maverick months and nearly cost Razer his life obtaining it. It was a rare treasure in of itself and Maverick fully intended on displaying it in his gallery when everything was settled. The Kekko didn't think it would be fair to ask Razer to acquire the Shard as well, however. At least not by himself. Though he did not doubt Razer would attempt it in an instant.

An idea came to him. "That girl that claimed the Masamune yesterday, Lilly, is she still around?" Maverick asked. He had been impressed with Lilly from the moment he laid eyes on her. She was an excellent treasure hunter and clearly a skilled warrior. He would send her in his stead. Along with Razer of course. Just to be safe.

"I ain't sure," Razer replied.

"Well go and find her," Maverick simply stated.

Razer nodded and left the room.

The long blade glinted in the pale moonlight, refracting its silver hues glinting with each flowing swing that cut through the air. It was late in the night. Much later than Lilly was used to staying up, or so it felt. The transition from Namek’s night-less nights was slightly confusing for the young girl, but there was a kind of peace that the night brought, so it was welcomed.

Why was a seemingly ordinary girl out in the middle of the night practicing her swordsmanship? It was a complicated answer! Lilly was afraid. Afraid of what she became when she gave into her other side; her angelic side. True, her skills vastly improved, mostly because she held the knowledge of how to use them was unlocked fully. But it changed her in ways that were impossible to fully describe.

So she was to become viable without tapping into Asha; if that was at all possible. Would it ever be a full replacement? Only time would tell!

Cricket-sounding creatures chirped out through the forest while other animals sung out in a forest song. It was peaceful and a suitable theme for her current situation. The legendary Masamune swept through the air silently, but created a ruckus in the form of a thick branch being sliced off a tree and smashing into the ground!

“Whoops…” she said with the hint of embarrassment, even though nobody was around. She was alone at the edge of one of Maverick’s encompassing jungles. The light blue skirt which Lilly wore fluttered with each movement and allowed the summer breeze to caress her smooth legs. Up top she wore a grey halter top that had a small ribbon attached to her hip area, and a free-flowing piece of fabric which dangled cutely. It was an outfit of Maverick’s wife, which she had been given after completely ruining her old dress!

The curved blade of the Masamune dug into the growth covered ground, its blade sinking into the ground slightly due to the blades furiously sharp edge. Lilly sighed and glanced up into what sky was visible through the canopy of blotted green. Dozens upon dozens of stares littered the ink bed of dark blue. Her mind began to wander off from the trail of training and into random subjects.

“Shooting star!” she said in awe. What appeared to be a shooting star shone brightly into the planet’s atmosphere, tumbling in at twisting speeds. “I wish…” the rest of her wish was said inside her head. It wasn’t good to declare your wishes out loud, you know.

A sudden jolt rocked throughout the small ship. The interior was illuminated in a dark red light. Every few seconds that light would suddenly extinguish to leave the open area in near total darkness. The only source of light came from various displays located throughout the ship’s few consoles. As the light slowly began to reemerge it slowly revealed a young human strapped to a chair near the master controls.

His head swayed back and forth due to the occasional jolt as the ship rocked for some unknown reason. Suddenly his head slammed back into the hardened cushioning of the pilot’s chair. As his head began to fall forward once again his eyelids opened just a fraction of an inch. He was still partially unconscious. Despite that fact he was still able to catch himself to keep his head from slamming back once again as a series of jolts rocked the ship’s interior.

A small series of loud low pitched beeps suddenly started to echo all around the young human. This sudden change in his environment caused Doan to fully regain consciousness. He quickly opened his eyes and quickly took in his surroundings. As the confusion of his current situation slowly began to fade he realized where he was. He was strapped into the pilot’s chair of his ship. The thing he didn’t know was how he came to be in such a situation. He focused his mind as he tried to see what he last remembered.

As his mind cleared he remembered boarding the ASCF Endow in an attempt to save its crew. The moment he stepped off though he was attacked by one of the raiders. To his dismay he remembered being soundly defeated. What confused him was the fact that he was still alive. He quickly unlatched the harness. Once he did so a huge tremor traveled through the ship. The force alone sent Doan out of his seat and caused him to roll across the floor.

The tremors had suddenly picked up in both intensity and speed. Doan slowly forced himself into a standing position as he used the main console for support. The strangest thing however was that all of the blast covers were closed. This prevented him from seeing outside of the ship to understand what had caused all of the turbulence. With an ever increasing sense of urgency Doan quickly pressed a small button to raise the blast covers. As they slowly began to retract the young human stumbled forward towards a small port window.

An eerie orange light slowly began to seep through the ever widening crack. Once the window was fully exposed Doan’s eyes suddenly went wide with fear. All he could see was the swiftly approaching ground of some unknown planet. Somehow he had entered the planet’s atmosphere. At the rate he was falling there was little chance of survival. Not to mention the devastation that his ship crashing was certain to cause. All Doan could do was hold on for dear life as he waited for his ship to break through the flame filled atmosphere. The moment the ship broke through it took everything he could muster to prevent his body from slamming into the wall. He knew he had very little time in which to act.

Doan quickly maneuvered his way towards a small hatch with red markings all around it. Each one notated the danger involved. As he drew near he quickly picked up a small pack that contained all of his belongings. Despite the danger involved he had little choice though as he quickly depressed the release. The small hatch was torn away by the sheer force of his descent. An intense pull suddenly ripped the young human out of the now open hatch and into the night sky. Everything spun as he plummeted to what most definitely be an instant death. Doan quickly focused his ki and managed to control his fall to the point he was not spinning rapidly.

With a quick glance Doan noticed his ship as it plummeted towards a forested area below. It was then that he suddenly sensed some life nearby. He could not tell the exact source of what he felt though he knew the area would be destroyed should that ship slam into the forest. An intense blue aura burst to life around the young human’s body as he pierced through the air. A long trail was left in his wake. It was the only thing that marked his rapid ascent towards the doomed space craft. As Doan neared he quickly stopped in midair as the aura round his body quickly vanished.

Doan did not put much thought behind his next action as he quickly cupped both of his hands down by his right side as he angled his left shoulder towards the swiftly approaching ship. A small light blue light began to emanate from between his cupped palms. With no concern of gathering much ki the young human quickly bellowed, “KAMEHAMEHA!!!!” In an instant Doan thrust both of his hands forward as he kept his hands palms close together. The light blue light suddenly burst forth in the form of an intense beam of blue energy.

The sky lit up as the young human’s technique impacted with the rapidly descending ship. The resulting explosion caused smaller debris to burst out in all directions. To Doan’s relief everything appeared to burn up before it came anywhere near the ground. He remained in that position. His open palms turned towards what had once been his home for the past several months. A feeling of defeat threatened to conquer the young human’s heart. He was stranded upon this planet. He had no idea where he was.

Gradually his mind began to return back to its usual state. Thoughts rapidly began to formulate within his conscious mind. He had to hide. A display of such magnitude would certainly draw attention. So without further delay Doan rapidly descended into the trees below. As the swaying branches enclosed around him as if in an intimate embrace Doan quickly suppressed his power as low as he possibly could. If anyone came to investigate he certainly did not want to be caught off guard. This was especially true with how the current events have played out lately.

Razer began his search for Lilly by checking the room Maverick had appointed her at the mansion. She had stayed there the night before so he thought it was an obvious starting point. He strode down the hallway and didn't bother knocking on the door when he finally reached it. He simply barged right in.

"Hello?" he asked as he entered the dark room. Nobody was there to answer. "Gone then," he said to himself. The warrior could still smell the faint scent of some sort of perfume or something. Must have just missed her. Perhaps she went for a night out on the city? Yes that is what younglings seemed to do these days. Always partying it up like hoodlums.

"If I were a little thang like her, now where would I go ta' party?" he asked himself. Razer stood there for a moment, deep in thought. His mind raced through several locations and dismissed them in kind. He finally settled on one that he thought someone like Lilly would definitely frequent. If he were her that is. Razer swiftly left Maverick's mansion and began the trek into the city proper.

He walked through the streets like a man on a mission because, well, he was one. There weren't many people still out this late but the few night owls who were gave him plenty of space.

Razer reached his destination in what seemed like no time: a tavern named The Flying Griffon. While the rest of the city slept, The Flying Griffon was booming with activity! Loud music and raucous laughter spilled out onto the street and filled the air.

He stood there for a moment simply looking around. This particular establishment was in a very bad part of the city and even someone as well-known as Razer always had to be aware of his surroundings here. Shifty pickpockets were always lurking around this neck of the woods and everybody seemed fair game to their greedy fingers.

The Flying Griffon was a simple building and not very well cared for. It was a place that many people of ill-repute congregated so projecting any sort of homely appearance was out of the question. The owner likely figured it was a waste of zeni to even bother and just let it go to hell. The one upgrade to the place was a set of thick bars across each of the windows. But these were not just for appearances but for utility! They were likely installed to prevent people from being thrown out of them. There was a sign above the door which was heavily faded with years of neglect and weathering. An image of a winged four-legged beast, apparently a griffon, soared above the lettering.

A floozy wearing a spaghetti string top and plaid mini-skirt that was so short it barely covered anything was eyeing him seductively from the veranda. Yes, an attractive young girl like Lilly would easily be able to make a pretty zeni here. Razer had no doubt she was inside struttin' her stuff.

Before he could take even one step towards The Flying Griffon, however, something exploded in the sky with a bright flash and a thunderous boom. It was close enough that the shock wave actually shook the ground. Or seemed to!

"Avalon is attacking us!" someone suddenly yelled. This instigated quite the ruckus as people scattered for cover like roaches. One man even ran out of the building and started firing an arm blaster wildly into the sky. Razer shook his head.

It seemed unlikely that they were under attack but Razer didn't want to take any chances. The girl could wait...for now. He headed towards the direction of the explosion: the forest just on the outskirts of the city.

Lilly's blue eyes trailed the glinting star - which seemed to stay much longer than any she had seen in the past. No, it was upon a second inspection that something seemed to be hurdling toward the earth. Some sort of debris, or maybe a meteorite. Ah well, there was no use in lingering on the beautiful sight for more than a moment.

The curved sword rose off the ground and immediately crashed down again, only this time the hilt of the blade hit the ground as well! Lilly gasped upon the sight of a large blue blast breaking night blue canvas that was the sky. An explosion rang out from the impact point, which even from her distance caused the angel to wince. It was like a fiery inferno fell to the ground below as bits and pieces of whatever the object was, were flung about like feathers in the wind.

"That can't be good..." she muttered. Lilly bent down at her waist and gripped onto the Masamune's handle and hefted the blade upwards with ease. There was no way she could leave this treasure behind! While holding the blade she made a simple flick of the wrist and it vanished in a dim flash of golden white light.

The fallen foliage swept up in a miniature cyclone produced by the artificial wind kicked up from the blonde girl's aura. And she was off! It didn't take long until Lilly neared the scene of the crime, so to speak.

An awful smell assaulted her nostrils; the smell of chemicals she could not place, and burnt electronics. Lilly float high above the canopy of jungle trees and look around for any sign of people. At first there was nothing to see save for a seemingly ordinary night. Below her she noticed that blotches of the ground below were visible, as if something thick and heavy plowed through them.

"Hello?" Lilly shouted out loud as her form quickly descended down into the trees. "Is anybody around?" she asked loudly once more as her booted feet touched down upon the dirt. She glanced around but found it difficult to make anything out.

Lilly raised her left hand to near shoulder length and called forth a light source, which manifested itself in the form of an illuminated silver orb. The pale light -which was similar to the natural moonlight- cast a glow over the area as she inspect it.

He sensed her approach long before she arrived. Uncertainty suddenly began to cloud the young human’s mind. Was she here to look for survivors? Did she intend him any harm? These and many more questions quickly formed at the back of his thoughts. They went unanswered however as she suddenly called out. A silvery orb suddenly sparked into existence as it pierced the surrounding darkness. A dim light was cast out into the surrounding area.

The girl looked vaguely familiar. However he could not quite place his finger on where he had seen her before. From his vantage point, a thick branch, he was concealed within a wall of leaves. He was not certain if she had spotted him just yet though he did not want to be caught hiding in such a place. Slowly he took a step forward and felt the sudden pull of gravity as he began to fall towards the ground. He quickly focused his ki as he neared the ground to soften the impact so little to no noise was made as his feet touched the dirt.

Only twenty or so feet in front of the girl the young human landed and lowered into a crouched position. He rested forward on his right hand for support as he gazed from within the hood of an eerily bright white robe. The dim silvery light seemed to cause the white fabric to almost shimmer. A deep shadow concealed his face. The only part visible was his chin and a slight reflection from his light brown eyes.

A small pack was casually slung over his left shoulder. A katana was securely strapped to the pack’s left side. The scabbard was a dark black hardly reflecting any light at all. The wrap around the handle was a bit worn but still seemed sturdy enough for battle. He fully understood his sudden appearance and the way he looked could easily be taken the wrong way. A strange silence had long since taken over the wooded area.

Despite the way this looks….I can assure you I have no ill intentions towards you or anyone else,” Doan said as he carefully observed the golden haired girl’s movements. He remained in a crouched position is if he were ready to pounce at a moments notice. He did not want to be caught off guard. However at the same time he did not want to appear overly threatening.

Lilly looked around intently for any signs life that wasn’t native to the planet. Any type of groaning or rustling of leaves would indicate someone was nearby. Alas, nothing seemed to call out to her. With the light she produced only a moment ago, Lilly stepped further into dark jungle in her search.

“Hello? Is anybody-“ she began but clamped shut as the image of someone from above came gliding down neatly in front of her. Whoever this person was didn’t tumble to the ground, but instead he had a controlled descent. Much like Lilly would have.

With the flick of her soft ivory hand, a spectacular silvery flash lit up the area for a split second. When it was gone, the Masamune was in its place and gripped tightly in Lilly’s hands. The curved blade was brought upwards in a defensive stance just in case.

“Who are you?” she demanded. Upon closer inspection, it was clear that whoever this stranger was, was a formidable fighter in his own. If he was indeed the destroyer of the object that Lilly saw, she would have to…what would she do? That would have to be decided later.

Lilly lowered her sword slightly when the boy spoke, claiming to not wish any ill will on her. It was enough to stay her hand…for the moment. The deep cerulean orbs gazed at him for a moment longer and attempted decipher everything at a glance.

“Did you cause that explosion? Did you…kill anybody?” she questioned the boy intently. At that moment a cool wind swept through the air and caressed the duo, but it carried the foul smell of burnt electronics and other various nasty smells that likely originated from whatever blew up. Lilly wrinkled her little nose upon contact with the nearly overpowering stench.

“What is that smell?”

Doan carefully observed as the small orb of light was suddenly replaced by an oversized katana. He expected such a reaction. However he was relieved that she seemed to care more if someone was killed. He smiled slightly and held his hands out to his sides in a non-threatening pose. At least that is how he hoped she viewed his movement. “Yes I blew that object up. No I didn’t kill anyone. In fact….I probably saved others by doing that. You see….my ship entered the planet’s atmosphere uncontrolled. I had no choice but to destroy it to prevent any lasting harm to this area. It also ensured no innocent bystanders were hurt…..or worse,” Doan said as he carefully observed her movements.

Though….now I am afraid to admit that I am sort of stranded upon this planet. Actually where am I,” Doan asked with a hint of confusion in his voice. He seriously did not want to fight this young girl. Both due to her power and the fact he just did not enjoy harming others. Nor did he enjoy being harmed. If there was a peaceful solution to all of this he would desperately seek it out. He slowly reached up to draw his hood back. As he reached up, he said in an even voice, “Easy…I am just going to show you my face.”

As he pulled the white hood back a mess of light brown hair was revealed. His light brown eyes carefully took in every detail of the situation. “Trust me…I mean neither you nor anyone on this planet any harm,” Doan said as he lowered his arms away from himself with the palms faced outward. The light breeze caused his hair to flare up slightly. The only result of that was his hair fell back into its usual messy state.

When Razer arrived on the scene he could hear two voices already conversating. Could they belong to Avalanian soldiers perhaps? No need to jump to conclusions. They were probably just other curious people investigating the explosion as he was. Though it did seem strange others could have beaten him here when he was already so close-by. He wondered who they were.

It was dark out and he did not think of illuminating his path with a ki orb as Lilly had. He had only his sharp warrior's eyesight and familiarity with the land to guide him into the forest. Despite it being nearly pitch-black, Razer moved with a sort of deft grace through the shrubbery. Hearing the two people talking also helped point him in the right direction.

Razer finally stepped out into a clearing. Much to his surprise, he saw Lilly standing there. What luck! Razer did feel a sudden pang of disappointment that he was wrong about her being down at The Flying Griffon. He had kind of been hoping to purchase her services before returning to Maverick's mansion. It would be zeni well spent! Maybe she wasn't that kind of girl after all. Well, at least he had found her quickly.

He suddenly noticed that Lilly was holding the Masamune she had only recently acquired between her and someone wearing a hood. The stranger also had a sword but it was strapped onto his backpack. It looked flimsy and weak. Much like the man himself did. Razer sensed he had an extremely low power level.

The man then peeled back his hood to reveal a youthful face while going on to say something about not wanting to cause any harm. Razer had to fight back a chuckle. He half-expected the guy would ask to be taken to Lilly's leader next.

"Lilly!" Razer finally called out. "Ma' name is Razer. Maverick sent me to find you. He has another job for you if yer interested."

He pointed a thumb towards Doan. "And who the hell is this creeper? Beat it kid, me and the girl have some somewhere to be."

After a few moments of hearing Doan's story, about his ship losing control and tumbling toward the planet, and nearly crashing into the planet side where he destroyed it to save the local area, she decided that he was of no threat. At least, not at the very moment. Regardless, she kept the newly acquired blade out - just in case.

Before a next move could be heard calling out to Lilly from behind her. She spun around and allowed the illuminating orb to shine its magical light at the person who called her. He was build rather stockily and wore armor, his hair was a short black buzz cut and the faint glow of a white headband circled his noggin.

"Razer?" she asked curiously. He claimed to be sent from Maverick, and the fact he knew her name only seemed to support that. She was still new to the planet, after all. But why hadn't she seen him around the gallery? That was a question for another time, she decided. However, it appeared she made a good impression! Good enough for Maverick to request her services once more.

"A job?" her interest was piqued. She momentarily turned away from Doan. "What kind of job are we talking, here?" she asked. When Razer brought the attention back to the human boy, she turned to him and gave a half shrug. Lilly knew so little about him; she wasn’t quite sure what to say! Besides that he didn’t appear to be a creeper.

"He crash landed onto this planet...and his name is...what is your name?" Lilly asked at the sudden realization that she didn't know it.

"My name Lilly," she said after his introduction. It was obvious that Doan didn’t have any place to stay, or any such belongings. “He could come along, at least to the gallery. If that’s not too big of an issue?” she posed the question in a sweetly innocent way.

Doan casually leaned to his left so he could get a good view of Razer as he called out for Lilly. From the way the young golden haired girl spun suddenly it was a little obvious she did not know this person. At the very least she might have been familiar with him. His suspicion was only proven true as she repeated his name in a questioning manner.

The young human slowly stood as he listened to the two exchange quick words about some sort of job. He felt as if he had suddenly been forgotten when Razer suddenly brought him back to the small group’s attention. “Creeper,” Doan asked as if he were slightly insulted by such an accusation. He was about to explain his presence here though Lilly beat him to it. He raised an eyebrow when she suddenly turned and introduced herself. Of course she only did this after inquiring about his name.

My name is Doan,” he said. He did not feel much need to elaborate with his last name since neither Lilly nor Razer saw fit to share theirs. A sense of uncertainty suddenly threatened to overwhelm the young human. He had no idea where he was or how he would leave this planet. His answer came in the form of the young girl. She quickly suggested that Doan tag along. “Well I would be more than willing to assist in whatever task you have planned. So long as it isn’t devious in nature mind you. If nothing else just some information would be good.”

Doan slowly glanced between the two as he awaited their answers. The steady breeze that had blessed the area before had suddenly ceased. Now the air felt rather thick as he patiently waited to learn his fate. Sweat began to build upon the human’s brow as the jungle’s warm climate began to take its toll. In his ship the temperature had been closely regulated to make it more comfortable on him. Here however it was humid and rather on hot. The fact that he had a robe on did not help matters very much.

“Well I would be more than willing to assist in whatever task you have planned. So long as it isn’t devious in nature mind you. If nothing else just some information would be good,” Doan said.

Razer raised one eyebrow as he inspected the stranger. Take him back to the mansion? What an odd proposal. Why on Maverick would he ever want to do that? He did not like this person and most certainly didn't trust him. Perhaps it was the way Doan spoke in such a nonchalant calming manner that bothered him so much. Or perhaps it was just his face.

On the other hand, Maverick held this Lilly girl in pretty high esteem. He practically talked all night about her after she had passed the test to acquire the Masamune so easily. Razer had only ever seen Maverick act like that when he was hunting down some treasure. And boy was Brooke's face sure red! If Lilly wanted to bring this guy along and Razer didn't do it, he was sure Maverick would make him come back and find the little bastard all over again. No easy task considering he still didn't really even know anything about him and he definitely didn't look the type that would step foot anywhere near places like The Flying Griffon.

"Eh what the hell," he said finally. "But I should warn you that the job we're talkin' about isn't cleanin' toilets like yer probably used to doin'. It's dangerous. You could die. Not that it'd matter to me none but come with us at your own risk and don't complain."

Something that resembled a mosquito with twelve legs and too many eyes to count landed on one of Razer's forearms and starting making a loud buzzing sound. He swatted it with a juicy squish. A thin wisp of white energy fluttered into the night air and quickly dissipated. Ki-sucking insects were one thing unique on this planet that nobody treasured.

"Well, let's get goin' then. I'm sure you'll both need as much rest as you can get before tomorrow heh heh heh." With that ominous statement, Razer turned back towards the way he came and started to walk away.

Suddenly, he drew his mythril sword from its scabbard, spun around, and sprinted towards Doan. He drew the blade back over his shoulder and swung for the fences.

Lilly could sense some sort of latent tension coming from Razer, despite knowing next to nothing of him. He didn't like the boy at all, for his own reasons. Lilly couldn't quite decipher them just yet.

"Then it's settled! We'll go to back to the gallery and figure out the plans there. I'm sure Maverick is waiting for us there, no?" she said after the muscled man had finally caved in and agreed to let Doan accompany them. From her dealings with the legendary treasure hunter, he seemed to be a tad more reasonable than this Razer guy who he sent to find her.

When the large mosquito landed on Razer's forearm, the following squish nearly made Lilly gag from the repulsive sound! She quietly wrinkled her nose in utter disgust and hoped that none would land on her. Or even come near her.

Finally, it seemed the show was on its way. Lilly followed the man who was supposed to be leading her on, with Doan in tow. Not even a full step toward their destination, Razer spun around and swiftly yanked out the large sword that was strapped to his back. With speed that betrayed his muscular figure he closed to the distance between himself and Doan in a mere step or two. His tightened muscles swung the sword and attempted to slash Doan's ass UP.

Only it didn't. The boy could have likely taken care of himself, but Lilly intervened in an unseen burst of speed. Razer's mythril sword slapped into the Masamune and stopped dead in its tracks. The blonde haired angel stood protectively in front of Doan and gaze the attacker a dirty stare.

"We have somewhere to be..." she grunted in bridled anger. Lilly swept one hand behind her and took ahold of Doan by his white robe to make some sort of contact with him. The forest vanished; they vanished. Suddenly they weren’t in an unrestrained jungle; they were in the red carpeted gallery that happened to be located on the inside of a gigantic statue.

Lilly had taken them all to the gallery somehow. The only thing that was for sure was the ever faint sound of flapping wings.

Doan raised an eyebrow Razer swatted a rather nasty looking mosquito. The young human expected a splatter of blood to remain of the strange insect. However, instead of blood Doan saw a small orb of white energy simply float away as it slowly began to dissipate. He could definitely sense a minute amount of ki. The small orb resembled a tiny firefly more than anything else. The startling realization the he was on a planet full of ki hungry insects sort of caused Doan to feel slightly ill at ease.

He sighed slightly as the man continued to speak. The hot humid air felt rather thick. More so than he was use to back on Earth. With the previous commotion of his ship blowing up the jungle had been eerily quiet. However now that everything had settled down the typical sounds you’d expect began to resurface. The buzzing of insects was heard in various directions. This caused the young human to look about cautiously in the event some bestial insect tried to deprive him of his much needed ki.

In the distance a howl of some predator echoed throughout the sparse jungle. Something had evidently successfully trapped its dinner for the night. The thought sent a slight shiver up the young human’s spine. He did not know what resided within this jungle. Suddenly the thought of taking refuge within the thick canopy above did not seem like the greatest of ideas. The swordsman who identified himself as Razer had already turned to return to this mansion that Lilly had mentioned.

Doan took one last look around as he began to take a step forward. The sudden tell tale sign of a sword being drawn immediately drew Doan’s attention back towards Razer. The sudden dull ring easily cut through the surrounding ambient noise. It was as if everything went deadly silent for fear of drawing this madman’s attention. Much to the young human’s dismay the man had started to sprint directly at him. A silent curse suddenly escaped the young human’s lips as his eyes widened slightly.

He had let his guard down at the wrong time and gave the asshole an opportune moment to attack. For an instant his hand began to go to the hilt of his katana out of pure instinct. He had to quickly force his hand to stop as he lowered his stance in preparation to quickly side step the man’s vertical slash. However before he could really react, a mass of golden hair blocked his view of his impending doom. A loud clang of metal against metal caused Doan to momentarily freeze in place.

The young girl had stepped before him and easily managed to stop Razer’s sudden attempt on Doan’s life. Not to mention the fact that she seemed quite pissed off. Much to Doan’s dismay though it seemed to be more of the fact Razer had wasted time rather than the fact he had nearly just died. Suddenly Lilly reached back and gripped him by the collar. The sudden show of strength left the young human a bit unnerved to say the least.

Then the strangest thing happened. His surroundings had suddenly changed. The air suddenly dropped in temperature and seemed a lot more tolerable than before. A sudden feeling of nausea threatened to overwhelm the young human. His head felt like he had been spun uncontrollably and left to stumble around. As he focused he slowly managed to regain his composure enough o look around. He did not have very long to take in his surroundings however. A staircase was a short distance behind Razer. A soft looking red carpet covered each regal looking step. The wooden banister was evenly varnished. Intricate designs ran the length of the railing.

As he leaned back slightly to get a better view he backed into a solid surface. His elbow pressed against a small door knob. It was quite obvious this was the main hall of some grand looking mansion of some sort. The floors were covered in tile. Intricate mosaics could be seen in various places. The main design that caught his attention was of a giant dragon-like creature as it hovered over a hoard of treasure. The prominent piece was a small orb that rested upon crimson altar. An eerie silvery light appeared to emanate from the orb.

It was quite obvious whoever designed the layout for the floor put a lot of time and money into it. Before Doan could really react however his attention was drawn up towards the top of the stairs.

Razer was disoriented as the forest simply seemed to melt away like grains of sand being whisked off in the wind around him. The trio suddenly appeared inside what could only be Maverick's mansion. As a grizzled warrior of hundreds if not thousands of battles, he had seen it all and was familiar with teleportation techniques such as the instant transmission. But this had been the first time in his illustrious career that he had actually experienced it. Being back at the mansion meant they had covered miles of ground in less than a nanosecond! It was...remarkable.

His head spun and he stumbled backwards a few steps before finally falling on his ass. His trusty mythril sword fell from his grasp and slid across the floor several yards. As Razer sat there attempting to regain his faculties, he began to realize just what had happened. Lilly blocked his attack! He knew she was strong but that was ridiculous. It had to be the power of the Masamune. There was no other explanation!

"Wh-" Razer began.

Before he could even get the first word out of his mouth, Razer was interrupted by the sound of a large set of double doors at the top of the stairs suddenly opening. As if expecting the group to arrive at that exact moment, Maverick strode through the open doorway. The doors immediately closed behind him once he was clear, no doubt the work of unseen servants on the other side. The silver-haired man calmly walked down the stairs without saying anything or even acknowledging their presence at all just yet. He moved in a manner that was almost regal.

Maverick stopped at the bottom but didn't move towards them. If he was surprised to see Razer and company appear in the main hall so suddenly it certainly did not show on his face.

Maverick's emerald green eyes quickly scanned over all three people before him. His expression brightened a little as he saw Lilly. "I see that you have found the girl named Lilly. That was faster than I expected. Excellent work," he said to Razer. He did not seem to care that Lilly and Razer had their swords drawn or that Razer was currently sitting on the ground like Sacajawea.

Maverick then glanced over towards Doan. "And who is this other fellow?" he inquired with one eyebrow raised.

Lilly appeared to be the only one not overly phased by the sudden scenery transformation. At least, not in the way the others were. Where they were taken by surprise by the move, the girl was more surprised that it worked! She didn't fully grasp the strange technique yet, but she appeared to be able to whisk herself around wherever she wanted! A very handy ability, if there ever was one.

When Razer stumbled backwards and finally fell on his ass, the clattering of his large sword rang out through the hall. It would appear that under any other circumstances the mythril sword should have defeated the Masamune. Its size was a few times the Masamune, but it lacked a certain...quality.

Not even a moment later two large doors were flung open and the silver-haired Kekko, Maverick, appeared in all his glory. At the sight of him, Lilly called back the sword. It vanished in a bright flash and ceased its physical form; for the moment being.

"Yes...Razer found me," Lilly replied to the Kekko. The deep ocean orbs shot a look back to the still floored man, and then traveled up the set of winding stairs to Maverick, down the other side and back to Doan, whom Maverick inquired about at the same moment.

"This is Doan, he crash landed here, which is how Razer found me. I decided he could come along to the trip here so we could figure out what to do with him. But I was told you have a job for me?" she considerably perked up at the final sentence. For the moment, Lilly decided against saying anything of Razer's impulsive action. She would offer him the chance to explain himself in private. However, whether or not Doan would agree remain to be seen.

Doan carefully watched the silver haired man as he descended down the stairs. He seemed oddly at ease with the fact that they were here already. “So this is the man that was looking for her,” Doan thought to himself. His light brown eyes carefully moved from one person to the next. When the man known as Maverick questioned Doan’s presence in his mansion the young human immediately tried to explain. However as he opened his mouth the young golden haired girl cut him off before he could even start.

Doan closed his mouth as he remained motionless. When her sword vanished into a sudden flash of light he just stared in awe. “Just who is she,” he pondered suddenly. That is one handy trick. One he would have to try and figure out since it was much better than having to carry the sword around everywhere. He simply nodded in agreement with Lilly’s account for what had happened. Once she finished he quickly spoke up to add in one important piece of information, “Though no one was hurt. I destroyed my ship long before it would have made impact thankfully. However if I am allowed I would like to accompany her on this job since I sort of owe her.”

He knows full well he might have perished had she not stepped in and stopped that ruffian’s blade. He considered the situation for a moment then said, “That is if you would allow it.” He watched Maverick though he did his best to avoid direct contact. Upon a glace down towards the floor he took sudden notice of the messy state of his robe. He quickly ran his hands down his torso in an attempt to smooth the cloth out. It did not take much effort to smooth any wrinkles out which he was grateful for.

"I ain't sure that's such a good idea," Razer interjected. Sometime between Maverick's question and Lilly/Doan's response, he had jumped up back to his feet and gathered his sword. It was now safely secured back in its scabbard. "I mean just look at him. He looks as weak as a puppy. And surely you have sensed his pathetic power level! The puppy would probably win if they fought! I tried to test him earlier, to see if he could at least actually use that sword he carries, but was stopped before..."

Maverick raised one hand toward the warrior as if signifying that was enough of an explanation. Razer sneered at Lilly as he trailed off.

The Kekko studied Doan carefully. The boy did look young and he was dressed rather strangely. He appeared to be human which in his experience meant that Doan could not be trusted, at least not until he had proven himself trustworthy.

Maverick had already noticed the katana on Doan's backpack and now considered whether or not the boy could actually use it himself. He had encountered many fakers throughout his travels that simply carried a weapon to project a dangerous image in order to avoid trouble. He would never forget a man he saw many years ago on the planet Al'Thor who had carried a special broadsword branded with a heron. This marked him as a blademaster. When Maverick witnessed him actually try to use it in a confrontation with a group of thugs trying to take his wallet, however, the man moved as if it were the first time he ever held the thing. Mav chuckled as he recalled his humiliating defeat.

But while the man from Al'Thor clumsily wielded his heron-sword like it were a tree branch, Doan seemed to take proper care of his. A man who respected his weapon most likely also knew how to use it. There was also something about Doan which seemed to indicate his power level was in reality far higher than that which he was sensing. He was surprised Razer did not also share this sensation.

"If I would allow it? Well I have never been known to turn down somebody who is willing to risk their own life to complete a task - whether it be to earn an item out of my gallery for themselves or to fetch something for me. If you would like to volunteer yourself to help Lilly in this quest then so be it," Maverick said.

If Razer was against Maverick's decision, he did not show it outwardly. He merely nodded as Maverick continued to talk.

"Although I am sure you have probably heard of me, allow me to properly introduce myself. My name is Maverick, renowned treasure hunter. I own this mansion, everything in it, and indeed everything on the planet which by now you must know is named after me. I'm afraid time is of the essence so I will get right down to business. Razer and myself have tracked down an incredibly rare artifact, called a Shard, which I need you to retrieve for me. It is not on this planet, but one on the very edge of the galaxy called Lujati."

Maverick walked over towards Razer and made a gesture to hand him something. Razer quickly pulled a ratty piece of paper, the map of Lujati, out of his pocket and gave it to the Kekko.

"Just finding the planet itself was quite the feat as it was thought to be destroyed eons ago," Maverick said as he walked over to Lilly and handed the map to her to inspect. "I would go after the object myself except for Avalon's idiotic new law prevents me from traveling as freely as I would like to. You have already proven yourself, Lilly, so you would be perfect for the job. Doan may assist you if you wish."

Mav smiled. "And what job would be worth taking without a reward of some sort? This one is especially dangerous so the payment should be equally extraordinary. Hmm...if you succeed in bringing the Shard back to me, you may each choose one item from the Eastern Wing of my Gallery. That is where the most rare and powerful objects I have acquired are displayed. That seems a fair trade for the Shard. Razer will be traveling with you, of course. He holds the signet which will ensure the Shard's authenticity and can help in case of trouble. So what do you say? Up for the task?"

That made sense, Lilly thought. Razer apparently didn’t mean any serious harm to Doan, but instead he was trying to test the boy. Still, there was better ways to prove someone’s worth rather than nearly chopping them in half! Lilly was glad she stepped in at that moment, even if Razer was mad because of it. Which he appeared to be.

Lilly stood silently while Doan became the recipient of Maverick’s long winded speech. One which Lilly had heard before – a form of it, at least. Truly, Maverick had a head full of marvels in here. Ones which she never explored and some that she only had a chance to glance over. All sorts of magical, rare and unique objects from across the universe were located here.

This current object that Maverick had his eyes on intrigued Lilly. A shard…on Lutaji? Lilly was curious about what the object did, but refrained from interrupting the bounty hunters actions.

Maverick handed Lilly a fragile-looking map, which Lilly was afraid of crumbling the paper at the slightest movement. She carefully held the map with the tips of her index and thumb fingers and looked over the worn writing. It was a map of foreign terrain. On the opposite side of the ruined parchment was a different kind of map, Lilly hadn’t the slightest clue of what it was; a star map. After a few moments of inspection, she quickly handed the fragile piece back to Maverick.

“Avalon…they’re really fucking things up…” Lilly said softly in light of the revelation. She then considerably perked up and nodded her head of full golden hair. “Yes! I’ll…we’ll, do it,” she said. Lilly glanced back to Doan and, then to Razer. Going to a foreign planet was dangerous, especially to retrieve a rare artifact. Having the two guys with them could prove well. Doan seemed well enough in his intentions, and Razer was working directly under Maverick, so there was no worry there.

“So, when do we leave?” Lilly stepped forward and spun around the face both Doan and Razer in a happy go lucky smile.

The young human slowly watched the exchange going on between the three other occupants in the vast hall. Doan had refrained from speaking while the illustrious collector of the rare and prized objects spoke. Upon hearing about a shard his interest was slightly peaked. “What is it capable of I wonder. And is it the reason the planet was believed to be destroyed? Was it to hide the shard’s existence from being discovered,” he thought to himself as he took a step closer to get a quick peek at the map.

He certainly did not want to be the cause of a powerful and deadly artifact finding its way into the wrong hands. However it seemed reasonable that the treasure hunter already had a good deal of powerful and more than likely deadly artifacts. Doan did not really recognize the terrain depicted upon the aged parchment. However that came as no surprise to the young human. After all he had only left Earth a few months before. He was largely ignorant to the galaxy at large.

As Lilly returned the map over to Maverick Doan took a step back to consider the situation. Then she suddenly spun around. Her golden hair almost appeared to glade easily through the air as she turned right before it settled back down around her shoulders. Her deep blue eyes seemed to take in both Doan and Razer at once from the distance she stood. An almost too happy of a smile spread across her face. “How can she be so happy,” Doan pondered silently. He slowly nodded his head. “Yes that is an important piece of information. When do we leave? Also what are we traveling in,” he asked almost afraid of the answer.

While the way he got here was an efficient means of movement the after effects were very undesirable.

"Under normal circumstances I would offer that you and Doan stay the night here at the mansion before heading out but I must admit I am quite anxious to get my hands on the Shard as quickly as possible," Maverick said.

The Kekko was happy to see Lilly treating the ancient map so delicately. Witnessing this small act only bolstered his faith that the girl was definitely the perfect choice for carrying out such an important task. Perhaps if she came back alive, and with the Shard, he would see about making her his protégé. He gave the map back to Razer who shoved it back into his pocket with a bit less care.

"It would be best for you to depart immediately. I have a ship already standing by out back. Please follow me."

Maverick led the group deep into the heart of the mansion's first floor. They walked through a series of winding hallways where various trinkets decorated on the walls. Neither Maverick nor Razer paid much attention to any of them. Both had been down these halls many times. Everything here was old news.

Eventually, they reached the back of the mansion. Several blank canvases with empty description placards hung on the walls here. Maverick had hundreds of items but his collection was always expanding. It would probably never be complete. As long as he was still alive there would always be something else he wanted.

The hallway ended in another set of those large double doors. Mav opened one of them which led out into a large courtyard. Three walkways flanked by shoulder-high green hedges cut off from the small patio area just outside the doorway; one went right towards a flower garden, one went left towards some intricately carved stone statues, and the last into the center. A modest spherical vessel about the size of a Capsule Corp Ship sat next to the fountain in the middle of the courtyard. Big blue letters across the front named it the Lecoiver. It was already running.

"There she is," Maverick said walking out onto the cobblestone path. He pressed a button on a remote control that he was suddenly holding and a ramp descended out of the ship.

"She is small in order to attain the highest speed possible. This little baby is at least twice as fast as any other ship you have ridden in and that I guarantee! Even so, it'll still take at least a week to get to Lujati. I apologize in advance if it is a little cramped. I did not expect three people would be making this journey. Let me just take this last moment to extend my thanks to both of you agreeing to take on this mission. I would love to chat about this adventure if and when you return safely."

The Kekko tossed the remote to Doan. "Here. From what I understand you're an excellent pilot." Maverick grinned.

It would have been a waste of time for them to stay the night. If the trip would truly take a week like Maverick said there would be plenty of time for sleep! Lilly had no quarrel with leading immediately, either. She had nothing to pack, nothing to gather. Everything she owned was on her!

Doan, Razer and Lilly were lead deeper into the wondrous mansion. They stared and the almost innumerable treasures there were put on show around the gallery. Despite the fact Lilly had seen a few of the artifacts Maverick had on show before; she was always drawn to the magical items. Alas, there was never time to fully inspect all of the pieces, for that would take a day, at least!

After a few more moments of traveling, the small group entered a seemingly unfinished area. It held no items, but instead the walls were blank slates without the usual items all around. Eventually they were poured into a giant courtyard, that would have been located on the statue’s shoulder, Lilly would have guessed.

The first thing that caught her eye was the large sphere that sat nearly dead center in the grove! A light waterfall could be heard splurging from the fountain spout and falling back into itself. Amazing! A real life space ship, Lilly had never even seen such a thing. In all her time on Earth, the most out of the ordinary vehicle she saw was perhaps a monster truck. Lilly was in awe until it dawned on her; it would be their carriage, so to speak.

“We have to ride…in that?” she muttered shyly. The idea of riding in a ship traveling hundreds of miles per hour, through space, where asteroids and other strange objects lurked invaded the poor girl’s mind. She gulped heavily when nobody answered her question, as it was only too obvious.

“We’ll bring it back, don’t worry,” Lilly weakly said.

And so Razer, Doan and Lilly entered the Lecoiver, set on their destination to the planet Lujati. It was true, the quarters were a little cramped, but they weren’t oppressing. Along the way they all talked about various subjects n’ shit. Learned more about each other. Razer even decided to recant a few of his more memorable tales of heroism when recovering an item for the great Maverick.

Razer was forced to assure Lilly (more than once) that the ship was more than capable of quickly dodging the stray asteroids or anything that could have threatened their journey. It didn’t help.

- - -

The dark planet orbited a small red sun; two moons were eternally locked to the gravitational pull of Lujati. In a deeper inspection, large grey fields of seemingly barren desert could be found on the planet; that were framed by monstrously sized jagged peaks. For the areas that were less desert-y, frail foliage that would only pass as trees could be found and large pools of deep, almost black water could be found all over.

Lujati could be reminiscent of a wasteland, except it was far from that, as any intruders would soon find out. With Razer piloting the ship to land it (so they didn’t crash and die!) the ship made a gentle, controlled landing not far from one of the planets dark oceans.

“We made it!” Lilly said with a week’s worth of pent up worry finally dissolving. The blonde haired angel stretched her limbs out and quickly peeked out of one of the circular windows. It was such alien terrain. The big man; Razer, nodded and pressed a button on the control panel. The hatch began to open up with a metal stairway leading down to the surface of the planet.

The ship’s ramp finally extended to its full length as it dug into the dark grey soil. A small cloud of grey dust slowly settled down upon the ramp after it had been so suddenly disturbed. Sparse foliage was scattered across the ground. Most of it was concentrated around a vast body of murky black water. As he slowly descended down the ramp he noticed how void of life the immediate area truly seemed. Aside from the sparse foliage there was really nothing else.

No birds were seen as they glided above the ocean’s mirror like surface. Despite the fact this planet was currently in its day period it appeared closer to dawn. “I would say this was a dead world…but I can feel minute traces of life all over. I just….don’t see anything,” Doan said as he came to a stop at the bottom of the ramp. Upon closer inspection the ground was not what he had expected. Back on Earth when you were near the beach you would expect to see sand.

This was closer to grey colored clay. It flaked in several places where the metal ramp had cracked the ground. A few gnarled blackened trees were now visible from his new perspective. Their branches twisted in strange angles and appeared more like pointed spears rather than what he would have expected. Every tree in sight was bare. No leaves adorned the dark twisted branches.

The air seemed almost stagnant. It seemed strange for the air to be so still. This was especially strange since they were so close to a massive body of water. He glanced back over his shoulder to see who had followed him down. As he took his first step upon the alien soil he noticed the soil, despite its appearance, was quite soft. As he knelt down he cautiously ran his fingers across the soft clay like soil. His eyes slowly widened. It felt almost like….flesh. A slight shiver coursed throughout his body.

Doan quickly stood up and took a few steps towards the right of the platform. As he took his first step he immediately lowered his stance and glanced around. An eerie sound suddenly seemed to originate from several directions at once. It was a hollow sound. Almost like two pieces of old wood as they were struck together.

Razer was the last one off of the ship. As Lilly and Doan began to explore the immediate area surrounding the Lecoiver, Razer gathered some supplies into a knapsack. They'd have a long trek ahead of them and probably wouldn't be back to the ship for quite some time. He stuffed some food, water, and a large bottle of vodka into the bag. It was best to be prepared for anything.

After collecting everything he thought they would need to find the Shard (and if the week-long ride here was any indication of things to come, the vodka was definitely a need to prevent himself from crushing Doan's larynx with his bare hands), Razer walked down the ramp. When he took his first step onto planet Lujati, the warrior's mythril boot sunk several inches into the clay-like ground.

He took little notice of his feet, however, and focused more on looking around. Lujati was definitely not what he was expecting. This place sucked! It felt like the air he was breathing had tiny little granules of god knows what in it that stung his lungs every time he inhaled. His natural reaction was to take smaller, shorter breaths but this left him nearly gasping for air. Razer reset his breathing back to normal by filling his lungs with a long deep breath and ignoring the sharp pain that it caused. If just breathing on this planet hurt, he wondered what other dangers the environment posed to their health.

Perhaps sensing nobody was still aboard, the ramp automatically folded back up into the ship with a loud clang. It made such a perfect seal with the rest of the exterior that someone who wasn't already familiar with the vessel would never be able to tell where it was.

"Well here we are," Razer said stating the obvious. He cracked his neck with one hand. Long ship rides were the worst and he had been waiting to get that crick out of his neck for days.

Razer held the knapsack in his other hand. With all the shit he crammed in there, it must have weighed at least fifty pounds but he carried the bag as if it were as light as a feather. He suddenly tossed it to Doan.

"Might be best if you carry it," he said without giving any reason in particular.

He still had that old map with him but there was no need to look at it now. He had studied it for countless hours during the journey here and had memorized its every detail.

"No sense in wastin' time lollygaggin' right? We gotta head...hmm....this way." Razer turned and began walking off in one direction that looked no different from the others. The warrior paused when he thought he heard something. He shrugged and then kept walking.

Lilly imagined herself leaping to the ground and kissing it in the utmost thankfulness for finally being on solid ground after a week straight of flying. But upon her first step into the foreign world, that was completely ruled out! What a disgusting mess of a planet!

The girl’s white boots stepped off the metal ramp and onto the planet; she didn’t sink like the boys would because she was much lighter. Each breath itched, like infinity small shards of glass were floating around in the air. The harsh atmosphere matched the eerie looks of Lujati perfectly. Lilly shook her blonde head in disappointment before finally turning to Razer, who was just then chucking the bag to Doan.

“Um, where are we going?” she asked, noticing that the leader on this little expedition failed to pull out the map. Typical. “I can hold the map, so we don’t get lost. I know how guys are with directions…” she said with a smile, despite the harsh circumstances. In truth, she had only heard of the stubbornness of guys and asking directions. There was also the fact she felt very unnerved without the map to lead their way. But she wouldn’t outright admit that.

“Please?” she asked quiet and politely, jogging up to Razer and extending her right hand.

High above them, twisted looking clouds formed at an irregular pace. They looked like something that heralded the end of the world, or the coming of a God. Lilly shuddered momentarily before glancing back at Doan.

“Are you still wishing you came?” she said with a smirk across her face.

A quick motion caught the girl’s blue eyes before it vanished back into nothingness. The black ocean of water appeared to release one giant bubble up from its depths and smashed into the ripple less surface. It all appeared to be a hallucination…but Lilly could detect minor, barely visible rippled waves slapping into the dirt. She quickly walked away from the water and found her temporary niche in between the two boys.
