It was a long dreary night on earth. The weather had been cold and wet the past few days, but with the eve of Halloween quickly approaching, the kids were still preparing for their nightly candy gathering rituals. It was lucky for Mijorin that he had come to find an empty house in a nice neighborhood at the time of the year where people thought he just wore his costume a few days early. Mijorin needed a good night’s sleep. It had been a while since he had a bed to sleep in with a solid roof over his head. He didn’t know where the previous tenants went nor why the left their stuff, he was just glad he had a place to crash for the week he would be resting on Earth. Mijorin had been squatting in the place for a few nights and now the eve of Halloween had arrived. He turned up the heat to 72 degrees Fahrenheit and jumped into bed, making sure to get cozy under the blankets. He fell asleep within minutes. It wasn’t long before a large explosion woke him. He jumped to his feet and ran to the window. Looking outside he saw that one of the houses next door was holding a party and was full of drunk costume wearing teenagers setting off bottle rockets and firecrackers. It was obvious that some kid’s parents were away for the weekend and had decided to throw a party. Normally Mijorin wouldn’t have minded too much except for the fact that he was trying to recuperate after a long hard fought battle and with his sensitive hearing he could hear everything. By comparing the name of the mailbox to the names listed in the white pages of the phone book, Mijorin had come across the number. “Wasssuppp?!” The voice answered the phone, blissfully ignorant of the time of night. “Yes, my name is James,” He did not know why but for some reason he had felt an urge not to give his true name. “I live in one of the next houses over and I must get some sleep. DO you think you could –“ “Jaaaames,” The boy hollered on the phone. “That sounds cool and all James, but let me tell you something.” The boy paused obviously searching for something. A radio was turned up full blast. “Ain’t no rest for the wicked-“ The radio played. “Listen you,” Mijorin called back trying to get the boys attention, but his voice could be heard from the background screaming something about jello shots with Dracula. “Hello?” Mijorin hung up the phone. “What a rude boy.” +++ TWC: 440 |

Mijorin knew the only way to quiet the neighborhood was to go down there himself and convince the kids to turn it down. The canine walked to the door and through on the nearest thing he could find, a cloak. He started down the path to the teenager’s house. When he had arrived at the base of the stairs that led up the porch he was met with the most annoying brat dressed as Dracula. “Look,” The boy shouted. “The werewolf has arrived!” Mijorin nodded in agreement as he placed his hand on the boy’s shoulder. With a smile he squeezed hard. The boy cried out in pain. “Listen Dracula,” Mijorin got in close to the boy.”You were doing jello shot with some kid a few moments ago. Who was that?” Unknowingly, Mijorin squeezed even harder nearly shattering his shoulder blade. “Ok ok, please let go,” The boy begged. Mijorin loosened his grip but did not take his hand of the boy. “It was Jeff, he’s out back dressed as a pirate.” Mijorin released his grip and shoved the boy aside. Mijorin entered the house, met with fascinated eyes. The have never seen such a great costume before. It was odd though, the further Mijorin had walked into the house the more quiet it became. He had thought it would have been the opposite. Finally walking through the rear entrance, the pirate came into his view. Mijorin eyed the boy carefully as he his back was turned to him, busy with something. The canine tapped on his shoulder to gain his attention. The boy whipped around, nearly slicing open Mijorin’s stomach with the machete he was holding. Mijorin stared at the boy and the boy stared back having a hard time keeping his balance. He looked over the pirate’s shoulder to see a half carved pumpkin. ’What an idiot,’ Mijorin thought to himself. ’attempting to carve fine details with such a large blade.’ “Weeerewoooolf” The boy shouted as his vision cleared up for a second. “No,” Mijorin responded harshly. The boy froze. “James.” A few seconds of quiet go by, an unusual quiet. “Jaaaaamees!” “Ugh,” Mijorin snorted, “You’re impossible.” He shoved the boy to the ground in hopes the fall would wake him from his booze induced stupidity. With a shake of his head Mijorin touched his forehead with two fingers and teleported back inside his room. He threw the cloak to the floor and climbed back into bed. He kept his ears perked for noise, but heard nothing. With a smile on his face, the resting warrior fell easily to sleep. +++ TWC: 872 |

It wasn’t long before another explosion rang through the bedroom, waking the warrior. In frustration, Mijorin jumped out of bed and looked out the window. There was nothing outside. ’Strange.’ Mijorin noted as the source of the large noise was hidden. He shuffled back to bed and secured himself under the warm covers. He fell into a deep slumber, this time for a few hours. That is until a sharp pain shot through his body startling him. He glanced over to the window and heard nothing. He was about to sleep again when he noticed it, a plain pumpkin sitting by the bedroom door. “What the-“ Mijorin slowly got out of bed and walked over to the pumpkin. He peeked his head out of the doorway looking both ways to see nothing. “Perhaps it best if I were to check the entire house. Those kids may be trying to get back at me.” Mijorin was almost sure that were the case. He exited his room and walked across the hall to the foyer. Other than the dimly lit lights, there was nothing in the room. He hadn’t noticed it before, but the doors were exquisite. Made from red oak and uniquely carved into a fancy design. It interested him. Mijorin wandered into the living room. The blinds were closed and the lights completely off. The light from the foyer however was enough to give a decent visibility in the room, casting shadows all about. Everything was quiet and still in the room as well. The TV sat in the corner, cold to the touch. It hadn’t been on for a long time, so the noise couldn’t have been from there. The pictures still hung on the walls where they had been the past few days, so one of them falling didn’t make the noise. All the windows were closed and locked, so one of them falling shut couldn’t have done it either. Though he had checked everything in the room, Mijorin still had a strange sensation as he walked into the kitchen. The kitchen was dark, so Mijorin flipped on the switch. The lights flickered on to reveal the amazing newly renovated kitchen. New floor tiles and brand new marble countertops made this food preparation room easy on the eyes. It did run through his head once or twice why the owners of this house would leave it when so much work had just been done to make it nicer. He checked the cabinets and the shelves and even atop the fridge. All of the pots, pans and other dishware were tucked safely into their respective areas. One of them falling surely didn’t make the large noise. Mijorin opened the fridge and much to his surprise, he saw there sitting in the bottom shelf another pumpkin. It was about the same size and shape as the one he had left upstairs. He did not remember getting a pumpkin and wondered if maybe the kids were actually playing a prank. He grabbed the pumpkin from the fridge, which was yet cold; it must have just been placed inside and went back to the room. When Mijorin got to the door to his room he froze. The pumpkin that had been sitting in the doorway was gone. “What the hell is going on?” Mijorin shook his head as if clearing his head from any bad assumptions he may be formulating. He just wanted to be rid of the pumpkin. He walked to the window and pushed up on it, it slowly creaked open. He held the pumpkin out the window and like all the classic pumpkin removals he threw it toward the ground, smashing upon impact. He closed the window and with a sigh he climbed back into bed, hopefully for the last time. +++ TWC: 1,504 |

Mijorin woke up again, but this time of his own accord. He had to use the restroom. He stumbled out of bed and down the hall, is eyes nearly closed and more than half asleep. He felt around the hall for the bathroom door and found it. He went inside, lifted his leg and did his business all while not even opening his eyes. Once he was done, he stumbled back to the bedroom and climbed back into bed. Mijorin turned around and threw his arm around the object that lay on the pillow next to him. At first he thought nothing of it, but quickly he realized the object had not been there when he left. He slowly opened his eyes and jumped off the bed when realizing what it was. The pumpkin had returned. “What the hell is with this pumpkin,” Mijorin was now officially scared for his own safety. “There is no way teenagers- no, I mean there is no way those teenagers would be capable of something like this.” Either way Mijorin was upset; he raised his hand to the pumpkin and shot it with a simple ki blast. The pumpkin exploded with its guts flying across the room, sticking to furniture and the walls. Mijorin got back into bed, but this time he did not go under the covers or lay down, he just sat, afraid of what might happen next. The warrior had faced many tough battles in his life, some of which were against opponent’s ten times his own strength, but none of them had him frightened or spooked more than he was now. Mijorin sat for nearly an hour waiting for the sun to rise, but he was still tired and his eyes were getting heavy. Then he heard it, a voice. He perked his ears up in an attempt to get a better idea of where it was coming from and what it was saying. “James,” The voice whispered softly. That was it, it was the kids from across the street. He had told them a false name for unknown reasons, but now it worked out in his favor. He jumped out of bed and ran into the foyer where the voice spoke the false name again this time louder. He ran into the living room where he froze. Much to his disbelief he saw standing with machete in hand a hooded apparition, covered in blood. It just stood there calling out the false name. “Who ar-are you-“ Mijorin stuttered, surprised to see such a thing standing right in front of him. “and what d-do you want?” The apparition simply spoke the same words. “Jaaames.” Mijorin was both upset and frightened that the ghost knew his false name, but mustered up enough courage to take a step forward. The blood soaked ghost took a step back. Was he frightened? Mijorin took another step forward as the apparition stepped back. The canine walked toward the apparition as it walked backwards, but as it neared the wall it turned. Mijorin followed the apparition, through the kitchen and back into the foyer, constantly calling the one word it had only spoken. In the end it had led Mijorin back to the hall where the bedroom and bathroom was. He followed it. He was sure the apparition would have entered the bedroom, but his assumption was proven wrong as the ghost continued walking backward, toward the bathroom. “Just where are you going,” Mijorin said aloud, not expecting a reply. “Jaames,” It replied. As the ghost entered the bathroom, Mijorin quickened his pace as to not lose site. When he walked through the doorway, the ghost was gone. Mijorin was confused now. Why would a ghost lead him to the bathroom? Did he have unresolved issues with blatter control? Mijorin shook his head, it would be daylight soon and he had to get out of the house as soon as he could. Mijorin walked to the sink where he threw some cold water on his face to keep himself awake. He reached for the towel when he spotted the mirror and froze entirely. His body turned cold, his heart beat shot through the roof, the outside world was now a blur, though he remained still, the panic inside his head and his heart felt as if he was falling into a deep abyss. He tried to move, but couldn’t; his eyes were fixated on the mirror. He felt like he was going to die, he felt as if he did die. His hands started to shake and his legs as well. The most horrific sight he had ever seen in his life was staring at him in the mirror, or at least maybe it was staring at him. The image was that of himself, though the muscles and organs were dangling there, from what used to be his skin. He could see his heart racing and the veins hanging their pumping the blood to his tensed up muscles. He continued to watch, not because he wanted to, but because he had no choice. He watched as his heart beat kept increasing, working ever faster, until – it exploded. +++ TWC: 2,365 |

“Whaaa!” Mijorin cried out as he shot out of bed. He could feel his heart racing. “My heart!” Mijorin threw off the covers looked down and patted himself. Fur. He was covered in glorious purple fur. “Oh my lord, what a horrible dream.” He plopped back down in bed; relieved to know it all had been a dream, but what had brought that all around? He looked outside to see the sun, it was morning. He could feel his heart slowly calming, regaining its regularity. After a few minutes of laying down, Mijorin had decided it was time to leave. Even though nothing happened, the place still had him spooked. He couldn’t stay any longer, he had to get back to his training. Anything was better than what had just happened. He grabbed his garments from the closet and dresser and put them on. “I think I’ll grab breakfast on Avalon.” He raised two fingers to his forehead and vanished. A few hours after Mijorin vanished, lights flickered in the house, and the TV turned on. It was static at first, but channel changed to 1, then 2, then 3, then 4, and stopped at 5. **Channel 5 Action News** “This is Sam Blackwell, with Chanel 5 Action News.” The anchor on the television looked flushed. “We interrupt your regularly scheduled program to bring you this most disturbing news. If you have young kids or are of the faint of heart, I recommend you changing the channel now.” Sam paused for a moment to allow time for the viewers to follow his instructions. “For the rest of you, we go live with Tracy Felter on the scene.” “Thank you Sam,” Tracy responded after a brief silence. She was sweating and was a pale. “We are here at the Smith residence here in West City where a mass murder had taken place last night.” The reporter began to walk toward the house, still facing the camera. “On all Hallow’s Eve, a cold blooded killer walked up these steps only to slaughter 13 teenagers having their annual Halloween party.” The cameraman entered the house, but stumbled back a bit at the site of blood and the foul smell of death. Blood was splattered over the walls and ceiling, pools of blood were spread throughout the house, under where the bodies were laying. Claw marks could be seen on the walls and floor. “This gruesome scene is where it all went down.” Tracy was now wearing a surgeon’s mask. “They were found here by the parents of one of the teenagers, Jeff who was still barely alive when they arrived. Unfortunately the parents aren’t here, but they did release the information about their boy’s final words. He said ‘Werewolf, James, as Werewolf.” The reporter began to double back exiting out the front entrance, the camera shifted in such a way that one could tell the cameraman was relieved. “This house,” Tracy looked toward the vacant house that Mijorin had stayed in on that same night, the doors were open and cops were filing through. “Once belong to a James L. Creek, a deceased serial killer who wore a cloak and killed his victims with a machete. When cops searched the home, they had found a half carved pumpkin in the bathtub as well as a creepy half carved pumpkin next to it. There was also a cloak discarded in the bedroom which overlooks the Smith residence. Now they police won’t reveal much more, but they did find stray animal like hairs on the cloak as well as the machete and pumpkin. Could it have been the ghost of James Creek in a wolf’s body who came back to kill again? Or do we have a copycat killer on our hands, who likes to dress up as a werewolf to do his killing. Only one thing is for sure, West City may never feel safe on October 31st again.” +++ TWC: 3,022 |
