Zorn made the journey back through the dark depths of the Forest of Illusion, his mind and the damp forest playing their tricks on Zorn’s body. Disturbing image and disturbing image entered his mind and played their games with Zorn’s psyche, but the strong minded Saiyan knew that it was all an illusion meant to toy with him and push him over the edge. But he did well to calm himself and keep his composure as the lit lanterns of fire began to come into view once more, indicating that he was growing closer and closer to the Hidden Temple once more. Re’kutal the Kanassan Soothsayer and read his future, which Zorn was not a big fan of, but it was what it was and he could only hope for the best. But in the back of his mind, he still questioned what decision he would have to make regarding him and Hoxi. That nagging little thought would eat away at him until the time came and he got his answer. Until then, he would have to bear through it and manage. Now, it was on to the Hidden Temple once more. Re’kutal said he had to take the Grandmaster’s Challenge. Zorn had heard things about this challenge, which indicated that it was the last challenge and trial of gaining full admittance into the Order of the Saljuk. It meant that you had complete control over your telepathic and telekinetic skills. Zorn was ready for it, as Re’kutal said it would take him one step closer to obtaining the skills he would need in his future ordeals with Hoxi. The Hidden Temple came into sight as Zorn continued down the worn path that led through the Forest of Illusion. The temple was not a new place for Zorn, as he had spent a lot of time there with his friends over the past several months. They had been trained by some of the Kanassan elders that were the best of the best in the universe at telepathic and telekinetic mastery. They had taught him the rope of using his brain power as more than just a strategic planner for his body. He found that he could read minds and manipulate objects with his mind, which would make him a deadly force to be reckoned with in battle, especially if his opponents didn’t know that he was telepathic. Zorn had already found out in a few spars with his good friend, Jorlece, that telepathic knowledge was bliss, especially when it came to negating a foe’s attacks. If Zorn could read their mind quick enough, he would be able to evade and negate the attacks before he actually saw them coming. It was another skill to chalk up to on an impressive board of skills and attacks that continued to expand and get better with each passing training session. Zorn didn’t know what the Grandmaster’s Challenge would bring him in the ways of learning, but he was sure to find out soon. Zorn strolled his way up the large stone steps that were on the face of the temple, leading him up towards the main entrance and chamber of the old temple. At the top of the stairs, he pushed open the large wooden double doors with his mind and walked through, closing them again with his mind after entering. Inside the main chamber of the temple, several Kanassans sat meditating with candles lit all around them. It was dark and damp inside the temple, as it was every single moment of every day. Zorn was greeted by a small, younger looking Kanassan who was more than likely a future elder in training. ”How may I help you, Saiyan Zorn?” the young Kanassan asked. ”I am here to speak with the Grandmaster. I wish an audience with him, if I may be so bold,” Zorn retorted. ”Very well, sir. Let me see what I can do. Please wait here.” The Kanassan disappeared from sight and left Zorn standing there alone. Zorn crossed his arms in front of his chest and awaited the boys return. Zorn pondered and looked around, waiting patiently, but still wondering what this trial could entail. He would soon find out, as the Kanassan boy returned. ”Right this way, Saiyan Zorn,” the Kanassan boy said as he turned to lead Zorn down a corridor. Zorn followed his guide for some ways down the corridor of stone, doors lining the way every ten feet or so. Zorn knew that was behind these doors. Rooms in which to meditate in. Somehow, they were sound proof while also being completely dark, the picture perfect place to meditate without interruption or distraction. A few Kanassans were coming out of the rooms as Zorn passed by, but they paid little attention to Zorn and his guide. Before long, they were at a circular stair case that led to the upper levels of the Hidden Temple. Zorn had never been to any of the upper levels, as he was told they were for the elders and their own personal areas in which they lived in. But Zorn didn’t question his guide, rather following him closely as they ascended up the stone stair case the spiraled around. Once they had reached the top, they stood on a small landing with a tall but slender door standing before them. There was a large metal knocker on the door, but no door knob or handle. The boy walked to the door and slammed the knocker into the wooden door three consecutive times. The sound it made thundered through the stone halls and down the stair case. It sent chills through Zorn’s body. The Kanassan boy took a few steps backwards towards where Zorn stood at the top of the stairs and waited. Suddenly, the door swung open to reveal a room that was about twenty-five feet by twenty-five feet square. Through the doorway, a large chair could be seen, elaborately decorated and very cushiony, covered with furs of several types of animals Zorn had never seen before. His guide began to walk forward, into the room, so Zorn followed suit and entered the room as well. As soon as they were both through the doorway, the wooden door without a door handle slammed shut. Zorn turned his head quickly to see who had opened and closed the door, but saw no one. What the hell? Hovering across the room from a window on the left side of the room was an extremely old looking Kanassan, covered head to toe in wrinkles and finely constructed animal furs, all the color of white. The Kanassan was obviously using his telekinetic abilities to make himself float and move around where he wanted, which was to the large decorative chair which he sat in. The room was dead silent and chillier than any other part of the temple that Zorn had ever been, as his skin rippled with goose bumps from the chilly air. Zorn waited patiently, searching out with his mind for the conversation he assumed was going on between his guide and the elder he also assumed was the Grandmaster of the temple. But there was no conversation going on between the two of them. The three beings in the room were simply standing there in complete silence. Then, without notice, the Kanassan boy walked over to the right corner farthest away from the door in which they had entered. In the corner extended a large rope in which hung from a hole in the ceiling. The guide grabbed hold of the rope and pulled it hard several times, a large gonging from a bell overhead sounding as he pulled it repeatedly. Finally, the sounding of the bell stopped and the boy stood still in the corner. Zorn turned his attention from the boy to the Grandmaster who sat staring at Zorn from his chair. Suddenly, a voice broke into his head. ”So….Zorn….you have completed all your training and now wish to take the Grandmaster’s Challenge to obtain your Saljuk Mastery Sash, huh? Well, I have heard nothing but good things from you and have seen in your mind that you hold the skills necessary to take this challenge. The bell you just heard was the bell telling everyone that there is a challenger that wishes to take on this task. When the challenge is over, the bell will be rung nine three times if you passed and four times if you failed, letting everyone know the status of the challenger. Are you sure you wish to take this challenge, Zorn?” the Grandmaster asked. ”Yes sir. I am,” Zorn responded back telepathically. ”Very well. Here we go. Good luck.” ”Don’t you have to tell me what the challenge is?” Zorn asked quickly. ”You must figure it out, Zorn. That is part of the challenge itself.” The Grandmaster raised his hands and opened his palms flat to Zorn, where he stood in front of him. Zorn watched carefully as the Grandmaster’s lips moved subtly, but nothing could be heard audibly. After a few moments of silence chanting, Zorn’s chest suddenly felt extremely heavy, like it couldn’t support his life anymore. He dropped to his knees as he clutched at his chest. Quickly following that, it began to feel like an animal was latching its razor sharp teeth to his brain and biting down hard on it. His body was tormenting him. What in the hell did he do to me? Curse me? What is this? I have to figure it out and figure it out soon, otherwise I shall fail the challenge. Zorn allowed himself to sit down, where he quickly attempted to catch his breath and calm both his body and mind. It took time, but finally he was able to and he began to search his mind for the issue that was attacking his body and mind. Searching his mind, he felt another presence that he had never sensed before. It was not the Grandmaster, but some other type of being. He didn’t know what it was, nor could he find it inside of his head. He would have to try another technique. Concentrating even more, Zorn slipped into a deeper state of meditation that would allow him to separate his mind from his physical being and enter the astral realm. As he entered it, he felt the presence once more. He was now in a dark place, with gloomy clouds hanging above him with thunder and lightning rumbling through the dark heavens. Small droplets of rain began to fall. As he watched them fall, he heard the succinct sound of sizzling below him. Slowly, he looked down to find that he was standing on what appeared to be a hardened lava field that had been crusted over, but was still hot enough to give off great amounts of heat. The Saiyan warrior looked around only to see miles and miles of black soot and hardened lava with small cracks of hot lava poking through to give off just enough light to see. Zorn did a three-sixty spin to see everything around him, taking it all in. When he finished his spin, he was extremely startled by what was now standing in front of him. A vicious looking beast with sharp, pointy teeth snarled at him. The creature’s skin was a dark black with hints of reddish-orange emanating from it. Steam rose from its nostrils. Large spikes could be spotted all over his body, most prominently the one on the end of his nose, like that of a rhinoceros. Zorn stumbled backwards several feet, as the monster was much larger than him. Being so close to the creature, Zorn felt insurmountably weakened, which was strange. Once more, Zorn was down on a knee while trying to put a little distance between him and the monster. He needed information quickly. ”Who are you? What are you?” Zorn yelled. ”Ravonish, demon eater of souls! And I am here for yours, Zorn!” ----------------------------------------------------------- WC=2,000 TWC=2,000 |

The son of a bitching Grandmaster had attached a soul eating demon to Zorn’s being and now the only way to get rid of it would be to fight it off in the astral realm. Zorn didn’t even know how to approach the large beast, or what it would take in order to defeat him. What kind of attacks did he have? This would be a battle where Zorn would have to work at it to find out the weakness of his opponent and do what he could with what was given to him. He knew that more than likely this would not be an easy task, otherwise it would not be such a big deal to pass the Grandmaster’s Challenge. Zorn shifted his astral body into a sturdy fighting position and prepared to do battle with the demon that plagued his soul. Only upon defeating it would he become a master in the Order of Saljuk. Zorn didn’t want to take any chances on underestimating his opponent, so he flared his aura out largely around him, increasing his power level to its maximum without going to his Giji super form that would increase his power and strength tremendously. But as soon as he did, he could feel the power that he had just increased, escaping his body. Zorn watched as parts of his flaming red aura separated from him and drifted towards the Ravonish. As it reached the beast, it seemed to feed on the power that it stole from Zorn. ”What in the….” Zorn said, miffed by what was happening. Zorn lowered his crouch slightly more and brought both of his hands back to his hips where he quickly charged his ki and fired a Double Energy Wave at the sternum of the Ravonish. Zorn watched them fly towards the beast, but the expression on the demon’s face was not one of fear or even one that looked like it was prepared for battle. Instead, the hideous monstrosity wore a giant grin on his snout as he bared his teeth, like he was welcoming the attack. Just before the Double Energy Wave reached the beast, the Ravonish opened its jaws, roared loudly, and swallowed down both of the Energy Waves. Zorn couldn’t believe his eyes! The demon had just swallowed his attack and could steal his ki on a whim. Ravonish smiled once more before burping up a small cloud of white smoke as Zorn’s power level dipped slightly after the attack. The orange and red emanating from the Ravonish glowed brighter as Zorn could tell the demon’s power level rose slightly after devouring the attack. Zorn couldn’t believe it. One attack and he had gotten weaker, while his opponent has simply gotten stronger. Zorn told himself he would not be able to rely on his patented ki attacks that usually helped him win battles. This would be a tactical battle to the end, but only if Zorn could find a weakness and take care of the demon before it sucked him dry. Using as little of his energy attacks or any technique that used ki would be paramount. Good thing Jorlece and I worked so hard on our ground and pound techniques while training together. They will come into great use here. But I need a way to get him to exert some energy. I guess it is time to use some trickery as best I can. Zorn turned and took off running as quickly as he could, looking over his shoulder to see that Ravonish giving chase with a huge grin on his face, like he was chasing after his next meal. In his eyes, that is exactly what Zorn was to the Ravonish. Zorn ran quickly for the first set of tall volcanoes and rock formations in the distance. The Ravonish was slow and awkward as it ran, so Zorn went just fast enough to stay out in front of the Ravonish, but far enough so that he could get away and deploy his plan when they reached the rock formations just up ahead. Zorn needed to blind side the beast and get in a few quick, easy shots to even up the score quickly. Zorn made his way into the rock formations, in the shadow of the volcanoes that stood behind the formation. Shadows mixed in and out of the crevices of the rock formation, providing very good cover for Zorn to play his game in. Using his tremendous speed, Zorn disappeared from sight and into a dark shadow away from the Ravonish. The Ravonish entered the rock formation and stopped quickly, not seeing which way Zorn had went. Ravonish huffed and puffed, out of breath from never having to run after opponents, but rather waiting for them to come to him. Zorn stayed hidden, using the chance to his tactical advantage. Using his telepathic skills, Zorn methodically picked through the Ravonish’s thoughts, masking himself so that the Ravonish would not know Zorn was in his head and alert him to where he was at. Zorn searched the beast’s mind, which was simple. He only had one thing on his mind, and that was stealing energy and ultimately his opponent’s soul. But at the moment, he was frustrated. Searching through the Ravonish’s thoughts and memories, he had never had to chase his opponent. Usually, his opponent’s came at him with everything they had, the ones beating him using physical attacks or their telepathic skills. Zorn could use all of this information against his opponent and gain the upper hand in the battle very quickly. First, it was time to have a little fun with the monstrous demon. ”What’s wrong Ravonish? Having trouble finding your meal?” Zorn said telepathically from a hidden crevice high above the hideous beast. Ravonish roared loudly and swung his mighty fists and claws, gouging out chunks of rock from the surrounding rock walls and formations. But he still had no idea where Zorn was. ”What’s wrong big guy? Am I pissing you off?” Zorn teased his opponent vastly. ”Get out of my head and show yourself, you pathetic excuse for a Saiyan Warrior! I thought Saiyans were known for their fighting prowess? You are running like a scared little girl! HAHA!” Ravonish thundered. Zorn smiled to himself, knowing that Ravonish was trying to bring out Zorn’s pride and egg him into doing something stupid. But Zorn’s hand would not be forced so easily. ”Running…no, not exactly. Being smarter than my opponent and getting an edge in battle…yes, absolutely. That is your problem Ravonish. You are so used to opponents that just rush you and play into your strengths that you never learned how to guard your weaknesses. Now what are you going to do being that I know exactly what those weaknesses are?” ”Weaknesses?! I have no weaknesses, you pathetic Saiyan! You know nothing of what you are talking about. Now show yourself, Zorn!” Ravonish screamed loudly. ”We shall see, Ravonish. All in due time, my friend.” Ravonish continued to look around, knocking out sections of the rock formations while Zorn watched from overhead, smirking all the while. Zorn watched carefully, the way he threw punches. He was slow and methodical about the way he attacked, not having much flexibility in his rock hard body. The spikes that stuck up all over his body gave him very little room to move around, but just enough to generate power in his attacks. As long as Zorn stayed out of his direct path and worked his flanks, he should be safe enough. It was still a long shot, but Zorn was willing to give it a shot. Zorn began to move in the shadows, following Ravonish about the rock formation as he searched the hiding Saiyan. Zorn kept quiet and watched carefully as Ravonish stopped underneath a high rock formation that had a rock bridge over head with stalactites hanging down. This gave Zorn an idea, but he needed to get Ravonish’s attention again to get him to stand still long enough. ”You’re getting closer, you big lush! It amazes me that a demon of your caliber is better prepared for battle. Of course, you have never had to have a real fight anyways, have you? You’re just a spook that attacks peoples’ souls when they cannot defend themselves! And let’s face it. The Kanassans are not much in the way of fighters, but are superior when it comes to abilities of the brain. Now you are facing someone who had both quality fighting skills as well as mental abilities. If I were a betting man, I would say the odds are not in your favor, Ravonish,” Zorn said telepathically once more. ”Well…talk is cheap, Zorn. Until you show and prove yourself, that’s all you are, is talk. I tell you what….I will stay right here and let you come to me. So whenever you are ready to get your tail from between your legs, I will be here ready for you.” -------------------------------------------------------- WC=1,500 TWC=3,500 |

That was exactly what Zorn wanted to hear from his opponent. The Ravonish stood perfectly still, only twisting his head around in different directions as he kept an eye out for Zorn to appear from the shadows. But Zorn had other plans than a head on attack that could lead to his demise. Instead, Zorn would use the abilities that the Kanassans had taught him to give him the upper hand in the battle. Zorn was ready to strike with his mind and the time was ripe. Zorn focused his mind on the stalactites that hung idly by above the Ravonish’s position below. Zorn smiled all the while, knowing exactly what was about to happen. Raising his hand, palm flattened to the stalactites, Zorn readied to pull them loose with his telekinetic powers and rain them down on the Ravonish’s head. Slowly and quietly, he pulled them loose and kept them suspended in the air until he had the entire group ready to go. Finally, when he had over thirty stalactites ready to be dropped, he released his telekinetic hold over them and dropped them towards his opponent. It wasn’t until it was entirely too late that the Ravonish looked up to see the falling stalactites coming right for his head. He roared a mighty roar, but it was all for nothing as the stalactites rained down on him and crushed him into the ground. Zorn continued to watch from his hiding spot among the shadows, high above where the now covered Ravonish stood. Zorn wanted to know how his sneak attack had worked and how much damage he had done. All he could see for right now was a large pile of rubble which the Ravonish was now covered by. After a few moments, the pile of rubble began to quiver and shake as pieces of the left over stalactites began to move and roll away from the pile. From the middle of the rubble pile, the Ravonish emerged, roaring slightly in a dazed state. ”What the hell was that?! Is that what you call an attack, Zorn?” Ravonish roared loudly, his voice thundering through the rock formations. Zorn once again grinned a fiendish grin. ”I am just getting warmed up, Ravonish. I am surprised that your master didn’t give you the ability of telepathy and telekinesis. I find that very strange. But perhaps he wanted you to be beat? It is your destiny to fail!” Zorn said telepathically, letting his voice echo loudly inside the Ravonish’s skull. ”Ahhh! I am no one’s bitch! I only control myself! I am destined to eat your soul! And I promise you that I shall!” screamed the Ravonish. ”If you are no one’s bitch, then how come a spell or a hex had to be put on me for you to gain access to the astral state of my being? Explain that to me, you aloof son of a bitch!” ”Shut up!” Ravonish yelled loudly. He began to spout off Mouth Blast after Mouth Blast in any general direction. Ravonish was beginning to get frustrated as Zorn continued to play mind games with the giant demon. With each advancing blast, he would knock a part of the rock formation to the ground, but risked bringing the whole formation down on himself eventually. Zorn found it wise to relocate himself further away from the Mouth Blasts, even though none of them had even come remotely close to him thus far. But Zorn stayed in the shadows, moving about so that it was impossible for him to be seen. Not that the rampaging Ravonish would see him anyways as he spewed Mouth Blast after Mouth Blast. This was what blind raged look like, Zorn thought to himself as he watched the Ravonish continue his temper tantrum from a farther view point. This must be what Saiyans who could not control their transformed Oozaru states looked like as they spun wildly out of control, destroying everything in their path. But Zorn’s attention quickly turned to the rapidly falling power level of the Ravonish, knowing that he was now beneath Zorn’s own current level. This was a good sign. He would just simply let the Ravonish wear himself out while making sure that he didn’t do anything that would feed him and recharge his energy levels. Zorn had to keep his head on his shoulders while he opponent went crazy and out of control. The stability of the rock formation around the Ravonish and that provided Zorn the cover of the shadows was beginning to crumble as small rocks and dust began to fall around Zorn’s head. It was time to get out before things turned worse and Zorn was left without a plan. He would let the Ravonish bring the rock formation down on himself and then go from there. Zorn moved quickly and reached the outskirts of the rock formation where he took to the air and quickly ascended to the top of the tallest volcano in the bunch directly behind the Rock formation. When Zorn reached the top, he landed on the rim of the volcano, which was only about three feet wide all the way around. From inside the volcano, black smoke billowed out of it as the hot, liquid magma below boiled and bubbled only a few meters below the rim’s surface. Zorn looked down at the rock formation that was in shambles, on the verge of collapsing in on itself and the Ravonish who still stood inside. It would only be a few more moments until it happened. And finally, it did. The whole rock formation collapsed in on itself with a loud roar audibly heard around the area coming from the Ravonish who was now being covered by the rubble and debris he had brought down upon himself. Zorn felt the Ravonish’s power level dip once more. It wouldn’t take much to defeat him, just a few blows to his weaknesses should out him out. But his position on the rim of the volcano would also prove useful. He didn’t know if the Ravonish would be able to even stand on the skinny rim of the volcano, giving him even more tactical advantage in the long run. Slowly, Ravonish pushed his way out of the left over remains of the rock formation and gathered himself up from a sluggish state, shaking his head a few times to shake the fuzziness from his brain. Zorn watched carefully for his next move. ”Where are you, you little twerp?!” screamed the Ravonish in his thunderous voice once more. Now it was time to do battle in the true Saiyan fashion. Hand to hand combat. ”Over here. No, over here. Down here. Up here. Over there. No, back over here. HAHAHAHA!” Zorn said telepathically, toying with the Ravonish. The Ravonish covered his ears to try and make the voice of Zorn go away, but Zorn was inside his head and not going anywhere any time soon. Zorn watched the Ravonish as disoriented as possible when he came up in an attempt to fight on the volcano’s rim. ”Up here, you energy stealing bastard! Come and get me!” Zorn yelled loudly, this time in his actual voice. The Ravonish looked up the side of the volcano to see Zorn standing firmly at the top. The Ravonish narrowed his eyes, roared loudly, and began to sprint up the side of the volcano, heading directly for Zorn in a rage fed charge. The Ravonish was still so angry, that he rushed forward out of control, not knowing the situation and playing directly into Zorn’s hands. Just before he reached the top of the volcano, Zorn summoned his telekinetic abilities once more and funneled a stream of liquid magma out of the cauldron inside the volcano walls and directed it down the volcano side at Ravonish. It hit Ravonish head on and covered him head to toe in the burning liquid, knocking Ravonish down the mountain side. At the bottom of the mountain, Ravonish got rid of the magma that scorched his entire body, leaving him completely red and orange. The spikes on his body were gone, burnt off by the magma. But he was still coming and coming hard, even more enraged, yelling as he stormed up the volcano and leaped into position. He landed direction on the rim of the volcano, Zorn noticing that the sides of the rim crumbled a little bit as he landed. His plan was working perfectly. ”I am going to kill you!” ”I think otherwise, you brute.” Ravonish unleashed a mighty Mouth Blast that hurtled towards Zorn. Zorn squatted and thrust himself into the air, high above the Ravonish. Now was the time to put the beast away and use his slow speed against him. Zorn did a somersault in midair and dove down towards the rim of the mountain. He cocked back his right fist and enveloped in bright red ki as he dove. He hoped this worked the way he wanted it to. Zorn dove past the Ravonish who swung wildly at Zorn, but was too slow to make contact. But Zorn wasn’t aiming for Ravonish. Instead, Zorn plowed his mighty ki enveloped fist into the surface of the volcano rim and let it explode violently. The result was that the rim beneath the Ravonish’s feet crumbled mightily, making the Ravonish tumble. Zorn took to the air immediately, circling around and driving both of his fists into the chest of the Ravonish and pushing him towards the mouth of the volcano. The Ravonish screamed loudly, knowing he had been defeated and that there was nothing he could do to prevent it. Zorn watched as the large beast, or what was left of him, slipped into the magma of the volcano and disappeared from view. His power level and ki signature disappeared from Zorn’s senses. He had come out victorious. Zorn came out of his meditative state, still seated in front of the Grandmaster in his chambers. When he looked at the Grandmaster, who sat there looking with inquisitive eyes, Zorn smiled widely indicating that he had come out victorious. The Grandmaster motioned towards the boy who had led Zorn up to him and grinned. The boy turned and pulled the rope, ringing the bell three times to tell everyone in the temple that Zorn had achieved the symbol of Saljuk Master. It was a great day for Zorn and for the Kanassans that had seen him and his abilities grow. Zorn bowed slightly to the Grandmaster and turned to leave before he was stopped by the Grandmaster’s voice entering his head. ”Congratulations, Zorn. A job well done. There shall be a feast tonight in the main hall to honor your achievement. All the Kanassans of the Hidden Temple shall be there to honor you. Also, you will be presented with the Saljuk Mastery Sash, which you most vicariously earned in your endeavors. Good luck in the future.” Zorn nodded and exited the room, taking refuge in one of the many dark, damp rooms used for meditation. But he did not meditate. Instead he slept peacefully, as the Grandmaster’s Challenge had drained him physically, mentally, and emotionally. It was a great task to overcome, but Zorn managed to do so and had taken great pride in knowing that he could use his mental abilities to overwhelm a stronger foe. ---------------------------------------------------- WC=1,900 TWC=5,400 |
