Jared still felt like he was on some kind of a high from his experience with the girl, Kasume. She was magnificent. It almost felt like he was in the presence of royalty around her. The woman was fierce, commanded respect and yet at the same time had a hint of vulnerability. Jared, content with having seen her in person for now, decided to get back to focus. He had to find that Poseidon Stone. So far it didn’t seem like he was any closer to finding it. Before long, frustration would start to set in. Back to his chamber in the temple, Jared contemplated on the meaning of Poseidon’s appearance to him and the discovery of the underwater city.

“I just don’t understand it. I thought for sure the stone would be there.”

Jared, you cannot allow yourself to become frustrated now. Your utmost focus is required. What you seek will appear before you soon enough. Freed replied.

The boy sighed. Freed was right. This was a supernatural force at work. It would not make itself ready for him before the right moment. Jared regressed from the frustration of it all and placed himself in meditative seating position. When frustration overtook like that, the best thing to do was gather his mind. But in the process of doing so, someone entered his chamber. Jared turned. It was the master of temple himself. Jared stood on his feet as the master greeted him.

“Jared, your level of promise is higher than I’ve seen in some time. You said Poseidon appeared to you, yes?”

Jared bowed respectfully.

“Yes, he did.”

Jared navigated through a discerning darkness.  He could hear a voice echoing his name.  Upon taking several steps forward, the boy came to a small body of water.  Curious, Jared edged toward it and looked at the surface.  He could see his reflection at first.  Suddenly the boy jerked back.  The reflection changed from his own to that of a bearded man with glowing blue eyes.

“What the!?”

Jared! I’ve been waiting for you!

“AGH!” Jared shouted.

Suddenly the water blasted up and towered above him as he heard a majestic roar behind it as well.  Jared started to turn and run when the water splashed down on him.  Jared tried to pull away but the current was too strong.  He screamed for his very life just before being submerged beneath the surface of the body of water.  Fearing he might drown, he writhed around frantically trying to get above the surface.  But that’s when he discovered it.  He was breathing!  By gosh he was breathing under water.

“What…?  What is this!?”

Jared Miruzuki, wandering free spirit of the living, I have called you!

Jared opened his eyes to see himself floating in a void of water.  At that moment a deity appeared before him that made his heart nearly stop.  The bearded man that appeared in place of Jared’s reflection was now before him.  Jared recognized him.

“You…you’re…”  His voice was strained with disbelief, “…Poseidon…”

I don’t get it! I thought he was just a myth! Why is he here? What does he want with me!?

My power awaits you!  The Poseidon stone …

“Poseidon…Stone?”

The test that lies before you will determine your right to claim it!  But your heart will desire it now that I have appeared to you.  Seek it out and embrace it, if you can!

The deity’s appearance vanished from sight.

“Wait! How do I find this stone!?”

A sign will show the way!

Immediately following the deity’s voice, Jared found himself thrown into a whirlpool of water.  He spun around and around unable to control himself in the current.

The master’s mood was greatly lifted by surprise.

He was instructed to find the stone!

“Since it’s like that, you will meet with the Poseidon Stone!”

Jared gasped. I knew it! It is here!

Freed nodded. Jared breathed quietly, mentally preparing himself for the moment to come.

Jared followed the master of the temple. It was awkwardly silent. Jared felt the need to say something. However he was cut short when the man spoke. At the same time, they came across a door.

“Through here is the one who will let you reach Poseidon’s Stone. She is known as Ja’rel. She will show you the way.”

Jared nodded. He then started through the door. He found himself rising up a set of stairs. Jared picked up the pace with Freed following beside him. As he went further along, the walls started to look completely black with stars seemingly twinkling. It made him feel like he was rushing higher into deep space. If he could afford to stop, perhaps he would have. But he couldn’t so he pushed on, essentially rising into the heavens. There was light ahead. He was near the end. Rushing forward, Jared sprinted full on into the light, finding himself thrust into more forest.

“Huh? I’m back outside!”

Freed looked around. He shook his head. Something felt different about this place than when they were originally outside the temple. Both Jared and Freed found themselves strangely pondering their new surroundings. Shortly after arriving, a voice called out to them.

“No need to be confused. You are in the right place.”

Jared and Freed turned in the direction of the voice. Walking through the vegetation and appearing to them now was an old but female Kanassan with deep blue eyes and weathered brown skin. Jared was amazed to see this woman. She was elegant. Immediately, Jared became respectful, bowing his head once in the traditional martial artist style greeting. She smiled at him and gestured him to stand at ease.

“I have been expecting you. I am Ja’rel. Welcome young boy…” then she glanced to Freed and smiled at him, “and veteran spirit.”

Freed was shocked. She can see me?

The woman chuckled. “As a spirit walker, I’m able to see and communicate with wandering spirits. You travel eagerly with this boy it seems. Please, follow me.”

She turned and entered the forest. Jared didn’t waste a moment following her. When he did go through, he noticed a path that had been cleared for her. She could literally be seen glowing with energy. Jared looked to Freed.

She is powerful! I can sense that. She may be the one to lead you to the stone.

“Never mind the fact that the temple master already said that. Come on!”

Freed and Jared followed the woman named Ja’rel.

“So what is a Spirit Walker?” Jared asked.

“Mm. A spirit walker is one who can project their own spirit and walk amongst others. I assume you are the one that comes for the stone.”

“I…I am!”

“Yes, Fa’rel told me all about you while you were raising the city of Del’mar from beneath the water with the demon witch.”

“Then you know that…”

“Yes, Poseidon himself beckons you. This is a very big privilege. The god of the sea does not beckon often, especially to one so young. The stone will let you answer his call. But in order for it to respond to you, Poseidon’s soul must enter you.”

Jared’s eyes widened greatly. Freed was also brought to shock.

“What?” Jared exclaimed.

“Yes, you’ll need Poseidon’s embodiment within your soul. But he cannot enter your spirit while it is encased within your physical form. So you will need to project your astral form to him and enter here…”

They stopped. Ja’rel pointed to a cave. Jared and Freed gazed into it.

“Enter this cave in your astral form. If Poseidon truly beckoned you, you will be able to receive his spirit and power.”

Jared nodded. “But I don’t know how to project my form.”

“I will help you. Be warned though, this will expend a lot of your physical energy. You sure you’re prepared for it?”

Jared thought hard about it. This wasn’t just for his own development he was pursuing all this. The mission at hand was to also retrieve all of Freed’s memories. Anything that would help along the way was needed. Poseidon’s power would certainly aide him.

“I’ll do whatever is needed to answer Poseidon.”

“Then focus your energy.”

Jared focused on his energy and his body started to give off a radiant glow. Ja’rel smiled.

“Yes. Now instead of you holding your energy in place, imagine yourself drifting along with it. Pour your essence into this energy and allow it to pull away from you. You are floating in a river and the current is ready to draw you away.”

Jared gathered his thought focus onto simply seeing himself pull away from his body. If he could see it, he could be it! This was the thought to focus on. Jared could feel his head starting to strain. His body was trembling slightly.

“That’s it! I know you’re feeling the strain but keep the focus.”

Jared…

Jared was starting to grunt as he felt a pull on his body. It was starting to happen. Jared’s energy was pulling his spirit from his body. He could feel his body go cold. It was then that a sudden pulsation traveled through his entire body. His eyes opened as everything around him became black and white. He suddenly collapsed to the ground. Freed was alarmed.

Jared! Ugh!

A blinding light produced itself. Ja’rel looked away, smiling still. The light turned into a transparent and glowing form of Jared before the light vanished. Upon the moment he finished taking this form, Jared looked ahead. He felt surreal.

“Wha…what happened? I feel strange!”

He looked and saw his body on the ground.

“is that me!?”

Jared began to panic. “What did I do!? What if I’m stuck like this! Freed do something!”

There was a pendant hanging from Ja’rel’s body. It was starting to glow. With gentle gesture, she drew Jared’s attention to her.

“Calm yourself child. This is normal. This must be the first time your soul has been separated from your body. You must be quick and enter the cave. Your body is constantly being drained of energy to maintain your current state. If it runs dry you will fade from existence.”

Jared gasped and looked to Freed.

“Your friend must stay here. Only you can enter. Hurry now.”

Freed gave a nod. Jared quickly floated to the entrance of the cave and entered through the opening. The moment he did, everything changed back to the scenery he had when he had his dream about Poseidon. He could feel himself being drawn further in as a voice called out to him.

Jared, you’ve come!

Drifting further he could soon see a floating stone. The closer he drew to it, the more it glowed. Jared’s eyes widened as he gazed upon it.

“The Poseidon Stone! I can’t believe it.”

Jared was within arms reach of the stone when Poseidon called to him again. This time he appeared behind the stone to Jared and stared him in the eyes.

Jared, you’ve answered my call and sought after the stone as fate has wished.!

“Poseidon...I’m…I’m honored. But why me?”

Sometimes there are no real explanations for the turns that life takes! Destiny as well as myself have dubbed you worthy of my presence. Through this stone, you will obtain power and enlightenment unlike anything you’ve ever experience. Accept me within your soul and take the stone.

Jared’s head snapped back when the very embodiment of Poseidon rushed upon him. Jared’s face expression made him look as if his heart had been ripped out of his body. He was being overwhelmed.

“URRRRRRRRRGGHHHH!!!!!!” Jared roared as the cave filled with a blinding light.

Freed and Ja’rel watched as the light glared from the cave entrance. Terrifying sounds were coming from the cave that sounded like rushing water, the roar of a god and Jared’s own growling and roaring combined. Fearing the worst as he saw Jared’s physical body jerking around on the ground, Freed edged closer to the cave only to be stopped by Ja’rel.

“He is fine! His soul is merging with the embodiment of Poseidon! It’s a very taxing process however and he will be exhausted, soon.

Jared’s mind flashed with graphic imagery he’d never seen, all of it of the god of the sea lashing his might. He saw images of his presence towering above the ocean and himself being flushed away by currents of water. His eyes were glowing dark blue as he jerked and writhed with his arms and legs outstretched. The stone itself floated over to him and a rushing wave of water like energy took him in a spin. He burst out of the cave with this energy. Ja’rel and Freed watched as the energy swirl took the form of a living tornado with his body laid flat at the center of the storm. Flashing lights were going off repeatedly as this was happening.

JARED!!

Like water flushing down a drain, Jared soul drifted down the whirlpool to his body and forcibly fused with it again. His body bounced up the moment his soul entered it. The stone itself floated into his hands, while the whirling water spin took the form of Poseidon himself staring down at Ja’rel and Freed. Freed was horrified at what he was witnessing. The soul of Poseidon was shrinking as well until it was about Jared’s height. His form and Jared’s form flashed back and forth before them, Jared’s eyes glowing as he held the stone. After rapidly picking up the pace of this action, Jared was placed gently on his feet, before the glowing eyes faded and the stone vanished into his being.

Jared! Jared, say something!

Jared looked pale and weak. He was barely able to hold himself up.

“Catch…me…”

Jared suddenly fell forward. Ja’rel was there to catch him. Freed stared at Jared, still horrified by what he saw. However Ja’rel simply smiled. She knew how right things were for the moment. Jared re-awoke inside of someone’s lodgings. Jared’s eyes were jittery as he opened them. He saw Freed looking over him. Jared couldn’t move.

“I…can’t move.”

“I wouldn’t bother trying, young one. After that encounter your body will need some time to adjust to simple movements. Not only did you project your soul, you had it fused with the embodiment of a god. Take your time and rest.”

Jared looked over to Freed. He seemed relieved.

Jared, I can’t believe you did that.

“Well…we still have to find your memories. So…”

The boy suddenly collapsed back into unconsciousness. Freed was deeply concerned.

“He’ll need more rest. His body is very young. All of this has to have an overwhelming effect on him. Be patient, spirit. Jared will return to you again soon.” Ja’rel said as she continued to work on brewing a stew.

Freed looked back to Jared, staring at his sleeping expression.

Observation Number 29: The embodiment of Jared is a strong body and a fierce soul. Jared, I believe destiny was kind to bring us together. Sleep well.

Jared breathing slowed to that of sleep. For the time being, he was at total peace.
