Mom, Dad, so much has changed since I left home. I’ve been on what has to be the ultimate adventure. I’ve seen places not even imagined within my own dreams. I’ve met some of the most amazing...and beautiful <3Kasume<3....people in the universe. I’ve learned to do things I never thought possible. All of it is because of you believing in me enough to let me do it. It’s difficult to be doing what I’m doing. But I continue knowing that you are there to support me when I need it. I know it must be hard for you to cope with me not being there. It’s just as difficult for me to be going through all of this without you there to see it. But when it is best for me to do so, trust that I will return home as quickly as possible.

Signed,
Jared

Running to Fly! The Road to Telepathic Mastery

Jared closed the book he was writing in. Before the traveling even began, Jared purchased several notebooks to write in. This one had been filled with letters he’d written to his parents. He couldn’t send them but they helped to cope with the situation of being separated from his family. He placed the book back in his bag. Then his eyes drifted off through the window. Later he found himself climbed into a tree. He hung from a tree branch with his bare hands just trying to hold himself there. He breathed deeply, keeping himself in a state of calm. The entire time, Freed seemed to be watching him near the stem of the tree. Jared seemed to be preparing to do something. It was worth it to watch and wait. The boy took a deep breath. He tensed his muscles and steadied his legs.

“Ok here I go!”

With a mighty swing of the legs, Jared swung himself upward. He let his hands slide a little then finished the swing in a full 360 rotation. WIth momentum still in his corner he swung up again. This time at the 180 mark he stopped and held himself there looking down. He could see the ground below him. But his body strength wouldn’t fail him yet. He had his balance intact. Keeping his balance, Jared steadily shifted to the right. His hands had become his feet. After about four bits to the right, Jared finished his swing and top-sided upon the branch in perfect balance. After landing, Freed gave his commentary.

Your balance is nearly flawless, Jared. Very good.

“Thanks. I need to make sure balance is perfect for the battle techniques I’ve been learning. Not much room for a sloppy fighter.”

As I was back then...

Inside the park, the armed swordsman was skulking around.  People inside the park that saw him moved to get out of his way.  He seemed to be looking around for something.  His eyes then met with a young girl hunched up beneath a nearby tree.  The man seemed intrigued by her and made his way toward her.

“EEEK! PLEASE DON'T COME ANY CLOSER!” she shrieked.

Junior heard the scream from where he was and started running toward the source.

Damn it! If he hurts anyone...!

The woman had slouched into a seating position staring up at the man.  He stared coldly down on her and began to reach out for her neck.

“NOO!!!” she shrieked.

His hand was about a foot away from her a staff suddenly flew by his face and lodged itself into the tree stem. The man, turned around, slightly surprised.  What he saw was the young boy posing as Gokou Jr. rushing up on him with a jump and spinning thrust punch.  The man caught it bluntly on the face and was knocked over.  The young Gokou Jr. pulled out his staff from the tree, giving the girl the chance to run.  He then rubbed his fist to sooth the redness that was there.

“Why do you creepy guys always go for the helpless girls?” He asked.

The man got up and drew his attention to the boy.

“I'm going to crush your skull!”

“Give it a shot if you like.”

The man rushed the young attempting a side swipe with his arm.  The young boy went into a backwards roll to avoid it.  Then he rolled to the side and sprang up just in time to catch the man upon his shoulders.  He looked up to see the young man looking down on him.  He stuck his finger into his mouth and lodged the wet finger into his ear.

“Gokou Jr's super wet willy!!! HAHAHA!”

The man suddenly let out a sharp roar of rage.  The boy's laughter stopped suddenly.

“Uh oh I think I made him mad!”

The guy grabbed the boy by the leg and started swinging him around.

“Definitely made him mad!! WAAAAAH!!” he screamed as he was then thrown.

Junior was arriving at the time but couldn't see where they were.  He was looking around for signs of the man with the sword.

“Where...is he?”

“WHOA DUDE HEAD'S UP!” came a shout.

Junior turned to his blind side at the source of the yell and gasped just before the boy crashed into him, knocking them both over into a roll.

“Oof!”

Junior shook his head and then came face to face with the boy laying over on Junior's back.  The boy had a sheepish grin on his face.

“Well nice meeting you again!”

“You? I thought I told you to...uh?”

A shadow loomed over them.  They looked up to see the man with the sword, angry as a hornet.  He let out a ferocious roar, causing Junior and the boy to give looks of fear.

“WAAAAAAH!!” the screamed just before Junior forced him off.

He rolled and jumped aside just in time to avoid the man's fist slamming against the ground.  The boy landed on his feet just in time to see the man come barreling after him.  The kid took off in a frenzy with the man chasing.  He caught up to the boy and grabbed him by the collar.

“Can't we talk about this!?”

The man just roared again and went to fling the boy across the air.  The boy's body flailed as he went sailing across the air.  Junior ran up quickly, jumped, and caught the boy in his arms before landing again.

“Heh, nice catch!” the boy asked.

“What did you do to piss him off so bad?”

“I gave him a wet willy.”

“A wet willy?! Suddenly I understand his anger!”

“Yeah, Super Gokou Jr. Wet Willy attack!”

Junior had a sweat drop appear over his forehead as his eyes went beady black.

I never gave anyone a wet willy when I was Gokou Jr.  Maybe I'll consider arresting this kid after all this.  His imitation of me is downright criminal.

Suddenly a sword lodged itself into the ground just between Junior's legs. The man had flung it after them.  Junior was about to move with the kid in his arms when a gunshot rang out in the air before a bullet hit the man trying to attack them.  The man turned around.  To Junior's surprise, Sulley was standing there with a gun aimed at the man.

“Police! Stop right there!”

The man, angrier than before now started charging toward Sulley.  Sulley kept firing shots.  Junior stood there in shock.

I didn't know Sulley packed heat!

Sulley looked to Junior and the young boy.

“What the hell are you two doing!? Get outta here!!”

Junior and the boy just gave a nod and started running.  But as they did, Junior reached for his backpack and pulled out another soccer ball.  He spun it on the axis with his finger.

“What are you doing?” Asked the boy.

“Giving our rescue some edge!”

Junior let the ball drop before giving it a sharp kick.  The ball was launched at the man like a rocket and smacked him in the back, causing him to drop.  Shortly after that, Junior had the boy run with Junior right behind him.  The man, rather than choosing to go after Sulley, turned his attention toward finding Junior and the boy.  Junior had exited the park with the boy and was now looking to head down a street with him.

“I think we lost that guy.”

Suddenly Junior heard crashing noises and screams that were coming closer.  The man they were escaping from then came out of the park in their direction.

“Ok but I could be wrong.”

They turned a corner and headed downtown.  The man took a chunk of the asphalt up and flung it toward them.

“Why are we running?” asked the boy.

The moment he did, the piece of concrete flew over Junior's head and landed in front of them. Both Junior and the boy stared at it in shock.

“Anymore questions!?” Junior asked.

The boy shook his head.  “Uh-uh!”

“That's what I thought!”  They ran around the asphalt and continued being chased.

Who is this guy and what does he want with this kid?

He then looked at the kid's clothing and thought about who he had been masquerading as.

Could this guy be...?

Junior turned the boy over into an alley and was hoping to lose the man chasing them.  But he ran in after them.

“We're not going to escape.  We should just turn and fight you know!” said the boy

“He just flung 40lbs of concrete at us! Are you insane?”

The two boys ran into an open lot dead end.  Looking around, the boy became angry.

“Not really.  Insane is running us into a dead end with a dangerous guy armed with a sword and super strength chasing us.”

Least he has my sense of humor.

They heard a crashing sound, which was the loud stomp of the man chasing them.  He was blocking the only way out and looked pissed.

“I'll break you in half!”

The boy twirled his staff around with a single hand, taking it into his grip before taking a stance.

“Well since it's come down to this, I guess we just have to fight!”

“I agree! It certainly is time to fight!”

Junior's ears perked up and he looked above.  His eyes widened as he saw a panther like figure standing at the edge of a roof top.  Jumping down, the panther figure now stood before them.  There was a glowing whip attached to her side belt.  The man seemed to recognize this person.

“Ryoga, don't tell me these kids are giving you trouble!”

'''Electric Panther! One of them is Gokou Jr.”

The panther figure gave a hissing sound as she looked.  Her eyes glanced to the boy next to Junior.

“So we meet at last Gokou Jr.!”

Junior growled in frustration.  A scowl on his face appeared as he realized that these two figures were after the kid after all.

“Heh, a walking panther and an ogre with a sword.  You don't scare me! I am Gokou Jr.”

“You'll pay for vanquishing my master, Lady Zora!”

Junior looked stunned.

Lady Zora? As in Zora Senshi, leader of Panther Claw!?

A brief image of the one they were talking about flashed through his mind.

“I've waited years for revenge after you killed her!”

The kid seemed slightly confused.

“Any idea who panther chick is talking about?”

Idiot! He doesn't even know! But I do! I defeated her! But I can't say that! It would reveal me for sure.  All I know is somehow there were agents of Panther Claw I haven't defeated yet and this kid pretending to be Gokou Jr. flushed them out.

The panther lady drew her whip.

“You have no idea how much anger and pain I went through when I heard she was dead.  I'll make you feel it 10 times!”

The boy kept up a tough face.

“Heh, anything you're dishing, I'm taking and giving back 100 times! So give it your best shot!”

“Kid, wait!”

Suddenly the boy rushed at her.

Grrr! I have no choice! I have to help him!

Ryoga blocked his path the Electric Panther and thrust his fist forward.  The boy jumped onto his arm and smashed Ryoga's face twice with the swipe of his staff. Junior went over two a series of trash cans and launched one of them with a kick.  Electric panther snapped her whip out to the trash can and smashed it apart.

“If that's the best you can do, you're in for a shocking experience.”

Junior growled just before his eyes shifted to the boy.  He had just finished landing a crucial blow on Ryoga and was pushing him back.  The boy had a grin on his face all the while.

“Like I said, not so tough!”

I can't believe what I'm seeing.  But then again, I should!

“Hey love...”

Junior turned his eyes to Electric Panther.  She had two fingers pointed at her own two eyes.

“Eyes on me.”

She then lashed her whip out at him.  The whip tightened its grip around his right wrist.  He suddenly felt something, a slight burn sensation.  Then he was issued several volts of electricity through his body.

“HWAAAAGH!!!!” he shouted as he was electrocuted.

The boy looked over to Junior and suddenly became distracted with concern.  He rushed to aide Junior only to be snapped into capture by Ryoga.

“Electric Panther!” He called out.

She turned at the sound of her name seeing the boy in Ryoga's grip.  Ryoga tossed the boy up into the air.  Electric Panther released her grip on Junior, letting him fall to the ground.  She then launched the whip up for the boy, wrapping it around his waist before he too was given the electric shock of his life.  The boy was then dropped down to the ground where he lay unconscious.

“Down at last.” Ryoga spoke.

“Take him! I want to dispose of him properly.”

Ryoga then looked at Junior.

“What about him?”

Looking at Junior, Electric Panther smirked.

“Panther Claw does not tolerate interference.  We shall kill him off too!”

With that decided, Ryoga took Junior into his grasp and proceeded to carry them both off.

I had gotten my mentor into a very difficult situation back then. But now I have a chance to be better than that.

“Jared!”

He turned to see Ja’rel appearing to him in astral form. Her left hand was glowing.

“It is time. The final test of your mental power under my training.”

Jared and Freed watched as the glow expanded. They knew like her test before it, this one would project them into the astral realm. Rather than be staggered by the expanding light, Jared stared into it unflinching. Freed noticed Jared’s expression and knew right then and there that Jared was prepared to take on this test fearlessly

Jared world came into perspective. A forest much like the one he had traveled through to reach Ja’rel, Jared found himself standing in the clearing. Once again Freed appeared more solid to Jared, as a result of being in the astral plain once more. Jared raised a brow, quickly jotting a mental note that they could use Spiritken here if needed. His eyes shifted away from Freed and was checking the surroundings. Freed had merely glanced up to the sky. Nothing but white light could be seen through the trees above and the clearing they were placed in.

A forest. So here is where the final test rests, said Freed.

“Yeah, I just wonder what it is.”

Still observing, Freed quickly made a discovery and pointed to it. Standing with the back facing them was a person. It was a peculiar presence to say the least, quickly making Jared and Freed cautious of who it might be. Jared and Freed looked at each other once. Freed gave a nod so as to let Jared know he suspected the test to lie with this person. So Jared decided to approach cautiously. He walked himself over at a steady pace up until he was about three feet away. The person didn’t turn to look at him at all. He could see the person’s hair was long enough that it passed for female. Yet Jared’s sense of infatuation remained not triggered at all. He was about to speak when she spoke.

“Welcome Jared...” came the soft feminine voice.

Then she turned and smiled at Freed, “and vetted Spirit.”

Jared and Freed were flabbergasted. This person in front of them could only be Ja’rel herself! Here she was a young nimble girl.

This girl is..!

“Ja’rel?”

The young girl yawned a bit as she looked at Jared. Jared was confused greatly. But Freed had pieced it together instantly.

She has powerful mental abilities Jared. Much like Ja’heim, she can have a different form altogether in the Astral Plain.

Jared nodded and then looked back to the girl.

“So am I suppose to fight you too?”

The girl, Ja’rel, yawned once more.

“I’m...afraid its a bit more complicated than that,”

As she said this, her body began to give off a black glow. Jared and Freed were forced to react. Jared began to stepping back. Freed had no idea what he was witnessing.

“Not good.”

Suddenly, several black wisps shot off from her aura. They rushed in front of her and began to form a circle around the clearing. Freed took to being on guard. Jared looked at all sides in urgency. He watched as the wisps of energy started to take form. Gritting his teeth as he dropped into a ready like stance, Jared mindset slowly slipped into battle mode. Wisps had taken the form of sleek humanoid like creatures. They appeared to be like shadows. Freed immediately placed himself back to back with Jared, also preparing for a battle. There were six of these creatures that surrounded them in the clearing.

“I have no idea what these things are. Do you?”

I’ve never seen things like these before.

Ja’rel yawned again.

“Defeat these creatures and your test is complete. I shall go for a nap now. I’ll return only if you defeat these creatures.”

Jared watched as Ja’rel vanished from sight.

“Gone!”

Jared they’re getting ready to attack.

His attention came back to the creatures just in time. The moment Freed had shouted, all six creatures lunged at the pair. Alarmed, Jared and Freed jumped straight into the air. Landing on the ground again separated from each other, they tried to find each other quickly. When Jared looked, all he saw was several clumps of rock flying in his direction. Jared’s instincts kicked in and he vanished from sight. At the same time a moving blur appeared crossing along the flying rocks. Jared reappeared at the last one and did a jump spin kick aimed for the head of a creature. His eyes widened seeing his leg pass through the creature. He then found himself knocked sideways by the other just before a rock crashed into him behind sending him to the ground rolling.

Freed saw Jared go down and immediately showed concern. He had little time to react, because three of the group came charging at him firing an energy beam each from the mouth. With his two hands, Freed produced a buffer. The buffer absorbed most of the shock of the blast but still had enough kick to force him into a backward skid. Rushing forward he created a sharp force sending the trio flying apart. Freed jumped into the air, locating Jared as he was just getting up on his hands and knees again. Freed was about to drop down toward him. That’s when one of the creatures appeared at point blank range. Freed suddenly found himself unable to move for a moment. It was just enough time for a second creature to drop down on him with an overhead pound. Jared watched and became angry seeing Freed struck like that. Hoping to catch him, Jared rushed over. But Freed managed to safely drop upon his feet.

“Freed!”

Freed shook his head and looked around. The creatures were hovering somewhat high above their heads.

They have powerful mental ability. I was frozen in place by telekinesis somehow just long enough to be hit.

“I understand!” Jared nodded.

He stiffened his body throwing his arms out as an electric aura burst up around him. His face features matured a little as he invoked his awakening power. His eyes shifted to Freed.

“I’m not sure how but my physical attacks pass right through them. You’re a spirit, perhaps you can physically strike them.”

Freed nodded.

‘Jared’s demeanor has greatly changed. He may be capable of drawing a victory without Spiritken.’ Freed though.

We can do this Freed. Just as they can work together...so can we. Jared thought.

Freed’s eyes shifted to Jared.

Whenever you’re ready.

Jared placed himself into a crouching stance and focused. His eyes started glowing bright blue. Shortly after this happened, piece of the ground started to give off the same blue glow. Jared projected his hands forward. 12 pieces of ground pulled up from the ground at his whim. His hands were trembling but he could feel the piece of ground under his control. Freed was on his mark. The creatures were ready it seemed. Jared flung his arms back then swung them forward, releasing the chunks of ground. The creatures dodged. Freed understood what he was to do and suddenly accelerated his body.

Able to make physical contact with the creatures, Freed took hold of two by the arm, swung them into two others to send them falling down. Jared vanished as well, appearing between the other two. He extended his arms apart, a palm aimed at both creatures. The palms released energy into the creatures, blasting a hole right through them. The fizzled a bit after the blasts had finished projecting. Then the creatures evaporated. Freed looked down at the ground in time to see the other four starting to move. Seeing them to as well, Jared shouted toward Freed.

“It’s our chance!”

RIght!

Their hands cupped they angled themselves and synchronized their focus.

KAME...HAME...HAAAA!!

The two fired their designated energy beam toward the creatures, all four of which stared up in shock as the beams came down on them. There was a shrilling screech from them as the beams hit the ground with explosive impact. Both Jared and Freed braced themselves against the backlash of the explosion. It seemed as if they had managed to do the deed. Landing on the ground, the pair waited for the smoke to appear. The moment it started to fade, the two could see something in the cloud. It was the young Ja’rel. Once she was clearly visible, she gave another yawn.

“I was hoping I’d get more rest than this. You two are quick at work.”

Jared nodded again as his energy settled. He reverted back to normal in the same instance. Ja’rel seemed satisfied with what she saw. With a simple thrust of the hands, light was flashed in Jared’s eyes. Moments after that he found he had returned to area just outside of Ja’rel’s lodgings. She was waiting for him there as her usual elderly self. She seemed very happy.

“As I thought. You are a being of great talent. The power entrusted to you will be a blessing along your journey. Use it well.”

Jared suddenly found himself glowing with light blue energy. Jared felt light on his feet. Warm as well, he seemed very happy. Freed simply kept quiet and smiled. Jared was growing every day.

“I have nothing left to teach you. You’ve excelled in my exercises. Now feel free to continue your training in the Saljuk temple if you wish. My abilities are not the only ones you can learn from.”

Jared nodded.

“For now I bid you farewell.”

She said this and left Jared to bask in his accomplishments. Jared looked at Freed with a grin on his face.

“You know, Freed. We did this together. We’ll find your memories as well in the same manner.”

Yes. My confidence in the success of the mission is higher now than it ever has been. I believe we will find all the shards in good time.

Jared beamed with confidence. He nodded and turned away from Freed, headed for the way he came here to begin with. Freed watched him walk away as always.

Observation number 30: Jared’s potential continues to grow. At this point, his limits seem endless. Jared, I will continue my observations so that someday I will fully understand you and the meaning behind our meeting.

Freed nodded once and then vanished into thin air, returning himself to the mental realm of the Gem of Telepathy.
