Two months from now, there will be a convention for all ADBZ members at the Southeastern Manhattan Hotel Complex. The building is half hotel, half apartment buildings, and conveniently features a convention center in the middle of the building. Nothing fancy, but large enough that Alex, Pan, Sanara, and Diive - the organizers of the convention - have plenty of room to set up their T-shirts and miniatures made specially for the convention. However, there is a problem. A New York company known as the Lazarus Corporation has had a small... security breach. Soon the streets of Manhattan Island are covered with thousands of people, the experimental subjects... and their victims. The problem? Just how "soon" it happened. At 12:03 AM the first victim escaped from Lazarus Corporation. By 1:17 AM five percent of the island was infected. By 2:23 AM, the first news broadcast and city-wide alert had been announced. But since 1:58 AM the streets had begun to become clogged with undead... beginning with southeastern Manhattan. The Southeastern Manhattan Hotel Complex was only two blocks away from the Lazarus Corporation, and by the time the collective moans of the undead were loud enough to wake the residents, it was already too late to leave. The building manager boarded all the entrances and windows, and did his best to ensure they stayed that way despite the endless pounding of the hordes. The only question now, is whether the building will become a haven... or a tomb. ~~~~ So, the setting is completed, now for the explanation. I plan on running this as a game-within-the-game. The winner of this will receive an as-yet undecided reward, but rest assured, at the very least it'll be a fun reward (maybe a trophy as well, Alex?) and something to boost your character - I'm thinking at least DP/SP rewards, and Zeni for top 3 positions. This is the beginning of the story; each character will begin their Roleplay waking to the undead menace literally at their doorstep. You will RP your own character, and there will be a few sets of skills and talents for character customization - preferably everyone will choose talents ACCURATE to them, not the ones they feel will benefit them best. From then on it becomes a battle, to survive the hordes, and dangers that may pop up inside the building. Make no mistake, there is only one certainty within the game: You. Will. All. Die. The only difference here is that the last person alive will receive the prize. How long will you last? I'm accepting 10 members into this; I, personally, will be participating, but will not be eligible for prizes/will not break a code of rules I set for myself; my character will be there mostly for plot development, a safety net for anything that I fail to foresee when designing my system, and potentially bait depending on how the story goes. Member List: 1. 2. 3. 4. 5. 6. 7. 8. 9. 10. We will also need backups; three seems like a healthy number. Those that are backups will come in if someone becomes inactive, but not if they die. Those that are backups will receive rewards; they will receive an epic intro as well as the items of the inactive player, so that the playing field remains roughly even. Backup #1. Ryfer Backup #2. Mukizu Backup #3. Here are the rules for the system; these are just compiled from the last topic, so some things may not make sense or may be missing (and I wouldn't notice, since I already know the rules). If you have any questions, IM me or CBox it up if you see me there (I never check PMs, don't bother). Stats: Strength: This is rather self-explanatory. Strength will prove useful in moving objects around, making kills in melee combat, forcing locked doors open, and even holding unsecured defenses against the undead hordes. Speed: Same as above in terms of self-explanation. Speed determines how fast you can run, how easy it is for you to escape from zombies, and how many blows you can make in melee combat before an attacker gets you in a position that they can strike. Reflex: A bit similar to speed, this measures how fast you are - but in reaction time. A world-class sprinter that takes three seconds to react is as easy to chow down on as a couch potato. Reflex will be a largely defensive stat, measuring your ability to avoid danger and react to sudden incursions. By no means does Reflex make you able to defend against anything, though - reacting more quickly to 100 zombies surrounding you in a hotel hallway with no exits isn't likely to help. Much. Stamina: This stat is a passive but important one. Stamina measures your endurance, your fatigue, your ability to continue. The longer your character goes without sleeping, without getting proper nourishment, or the farther along they get in infection stages, the worse their performance will be as their Stamina is drained. While being infected has no cure, taking a long sleep or having a full belly will do wonders for restoring the stamina of someone who has been overworking themselves. Dexterity: A similar term to reflex, but in this game it's use is quite different. Dexterity measures your ability to use your muscles in complex ways, or very delicate ones. Climbing walls, especially unstable ones, is extremely difficult for characters with low dexterity, and it also makes landing what could be a difficult hit with a melee weapon easier as the character has better control, even of unwieldy weapons. Picking locks is also an option for very dextrous characters, and even sneaking past unaware Zombies. Intelligence: A measure of brainpower, Intelligence is a lot more useful than one might thing during a Z-Day event. Intelligent constructors can make better barricades with the same material as a less educated survivor, and will be much more likely to notice slight details that others miss. This means that intelligent characters will get more detailed information without having to specifically seek it out. Accuracy: Accuracy only has one function, but it is a very important one. Similar to one of dexterity's functions, Accuracy increases the ability to hit, but much, much more dramatically than a versatile stat like Dexterity. And it also increases firearms accuracy. Perks: Iron Stomach - Get hungry & thirsty slower, eat expired food safely. Sprinter - Temporary boost to speed when in mortal danger. Night Shift - Better performance to all tasks when on low energy (compared to someone without the perk). Resistance: Harder to infect. Healthy: Improved performance in all physical aspects Deep Sleep: Bonus energy regained while sleeping Sixth Sense: Sense danger before it happens (This can be as obvious as a nagging feeling you get [sent by AIM/PM by me] or something as simple as nervousness. Can be difficult to tell from simple fear being RPed, and may not warn against certain threats, so not a fool-proof danger avoidance ability) Calm & Collected: Receive no performance degradation in high-stress/life-or-death situations. Observant: You notice things that others do not. Repairman: You're an expert at fixing things or constructing things. Statistics: Hunger: Refilled by food/water, it affects your physical performance first, then your mental abilities, then your skill performance. If it reaches a low enough level, you will starve and die. Sleep: Refilled by resting. It affects your mental abilities, then your skills, then your physical abilities. Infection: This is a statistic that you have no idea of. It is a % which is not displayed, but is extremely important. Each time you come into contact with infected material, from a zombie bite to zombie's blood spraying into open wounds, your mouth, or your eyes, this goes up. When it reaches 100%, that's it, game over. Over a somewhat-lengthy amount of time your character will begin to degrade, until they can no longer function, and die. At this point they will become a zombie. Depending on their positioning and whether they kept it a secret or not, this could be a potentially disastrous move for the survival team. Health: While it won't matter much in a Zombie apocalypse (since you're much more likely to die of infection), if you become severely injured, you may reach Injured, Wounded, or Critical condition. Depending on the wound, your status may continue to decay if you do not receive treatment within a set period of time; declining below Critical in this manner or taking more damage while in Critical state will result in death. Talents: Eagle Eyes - Better accuracy with all ranged weapons; more likely to find things Precision Hitter - Better accuracy with melee weapons Survivalist - Improved skills with fortifying, stealth, and shooting Chef - If you prepare food, it increases hunger by significantly more Soldier - Better stamina, less degradation from low sleep, better combat skills Looter - More likely to find items when searching Firearms Collector - Expert at fixing broken and malfunctioning firearms Gentle Touch - Objects are less likely to break when you use them; guns are less likely to malfunction Ask Me About My Zombie Plan - You've read the Zombie Survival Guide, and you remember every word. When a situation comes up where this knowledge is advantageous, you receive a significant advantage. Post Rotation/Phase Order: -Introductory Phase *A post at the very beginning of each round. It details any new happenings the players will be aware of, as well as the current whereabouts and statuses of each player. This includes hunger and sleep. -Action Phase *A post by each player describing what they are doing, and/or what they will be doing throughout the day. Essentially, the details of everything your character will do with his time. Keep in mind that the longer the time, and the less things you do, the more thorough your job will be and/or the more likely it will be to be successful. You can either RP your decision-making here, if in a group, or decide via AIM or other OOC means, just don't clutter this place with 5 posts each per Action Phase. From the introductory post there are exactly 72 hours for your final posts to be in before I move on to the Reaction Phase. -Reaction Phase *Another post by me detailing the results of the players' actions, any special events that happened, and any individual events that may have happened to any particular player (EX. Gosai gets attacked by a mob of zombies while searching for supplies in the rooms.). These will be followed through in the Events/Roleplay Phase -Events/Roleplay Phase *This is where anyone I called out in the Reaction phase has to RP their way to safety, to bounty... or to death. Pretty simple, actually; a few behind-the-scenes rolls and estimations based on factors including statistics, Perks, Talents, and the situation itself, and we have our result. -Secondary Reaction Phase *This is where the remainder of the Reaction phase carries out; for example, if you were interrupted during the fortification of a door or window by a lone zombie, once you kill that zombie you'll probably go right back to fortifying, not abandon it. So assuming you manage to down the Zack, you'll get more work done. -Wrap-up phase. This functions to cover anything that won't be addressed in the Introductory post of the next round; either won't be used at all, or won't have much in it. So, that being said... it's time for character sheets. I'm going to ask here that you PM all character sheets to me, and that you don't share your Perks/Talents with anyone. I'll be keeping Infection to myself since even the player won't know them, but I think aside from telling someone IC you should keep your perks and talents private. I'm sure some people will blab anyway, but it's worth a shot. Submit this form: Name: (Real name or RP name, your choice) History, personality, and/or appearance are completely optional. A pic will easily suffice here. Again, you're being yourself, so if you wanna put something here it should be true to you. Stats: (Remember, you have to have 40 total, and a minimum of 1 in each, and a max of 10. Strength: Speed: Reflex: Stamina: Dexterity: Intelligence: Accuracy: Talent: Perk: Vacation Gear: *Pick one of the following* -Booth Set-up -Luxury Vacation Bag -Writing Kit -Cosplay Costume -Emergency Road Kit -Activity Supplies -Supreme Getaway Package Send all that in a PM to me.
