The Dragon of Valhalla
The air was dead. Darkness pervaded everything. The kind of darkness that swallows up the light and anything that seemed remotely joyous. Nothing could escape it, nothing ever had and surely nothing ever would. Any shred of hope was quickly torn apart and snuffed out. Nothing could exist here except the frozen feeling of desperation, darkness, and disappointment. Nothing would be felt but...cold. Cold. That was the only thing that he could distinguish. It was the kind of cold that seeped through your bones, through your body, right I your soul. But then, did he even have a body? Did he even truly exist. Did he have any right to question anything? "Where? What? Who am I?" He thought to himself. Although he had asked the question he wasn't even quite sure if there was an answer. Perhaps there wasn't. Perhaps, he was just an anomaly amidst a million other random occurrences. But then the fact that he was an anomaly meant something didn't it? Or was he just trying to out more meaning to nothing? "No. I know, I am something. I'm...a..." He trailed off, losing the thought as soon as it seemed in his grasp. He was nothing, nothing at all. But if he was nothing, how was it he was able to question if he was anything? No. Surely he was something, and part of him said it was important, powerful. "I am. I am. A saiyan!" A flash of light erupted from the depths of the darkness. A green and white glow that emanated from an object in the nothingness. The light started to waver as the darkness came crushing back in but it still maintained a flicker. A new sensation began to take hold of him. It pushed away the cold and the dark and he started to feel warmth. He knew he had felt something like this before but he couldn't place where. But surely if he was aware of feeling he couldn't be nothing. The feelings of doubt slowly began to be pushed from his mind. His mind, he was aware he had a mind. "If I have a mind then surely I have a body. I, think I am starting to remember." The flicker if light erupted forth once more, although not quite as strong. Now it started to take shape, forming the outline of a body. He started to become aware of more feeling. He could feel the confines of a physical form. He was becoming less and less confused, although he still couldn't place where he was. "I know that I am something, someone. I am not nothing. I am not a void." He began to feel more secure in the fact of his existence. He knew that he had a body. He knew that he had power. But was he here or there. Alive? Or dead? He still had no sense of anything around him. Perhaps he had been something in the past but now he was dead. But if he was dead wasn't there something beyond death, not some frozen purgatory. "No, there is more. I am not dead!" His body convulsed and his mouth shot open, gulping in air or the first time in what seemed like years. It burned his throat and his lungs felt as if they would explode. But through the pain he felt a tremendous joy as his chest began to rise an fall. He could feel his blood starting to circulate again. Feeling returned to his arms and hands. He moved his stiff fingers, wiggling them around before he started clenching his fists. He began to move his legs as well, moving his toes and knees. He whole body was stiff. It was as if he had indeed been dead for quite some time. But the beating I his heart told him he was alive. He tried to gain some semblance of an idea about his surroundings. He sill had no details about his surroundings or where he was. He couldn't determine up from down. Try as he might he couldn't fully get his wits about him. "Ok, let's first focus on something simple. Lets try standing up." Slowly he began to try ad move his body as if he was going to get out of bed. He pulling his torso up right and bent his knees down. As he moved he began to feel a slight pull as if gravity were coming back. He willed himself towards this new power, trying as best he could to stand up. He felt as if he fell off a table. Whatever had been holding him up suddenly disappeared and he could feel the rush of free falling. The only thing was he had a bad feeling that he might never stop, that he would just continue on into eternity like some kind of bottomless pit. "Focus. There has to be a ground." After a few minutes if gathering himself together and focusing on stoping he eventually felt himself slowing. He felt something solid beneath him, as if he were coking in to land. His left foot hit order, followed quickly by his right. He teed to stay standing but his body collapsed on itself and he ended up in a crouched position with his palms on the ground, or whatever it was. He felt like a child learning to walk again. Did he have the strength to stand? He wasn't sure. He refused to give up though. He focused again and pushed with all he could muster away from the ground. He could still feel the voting cold trying to break through the aura that surrounded him. "Stand...up." Just when he thought he was going to succeed he felt the cold grasping at him harder. It broke through his defenses and he collapsed completely into the floor.l, flat on his stomach. The cold sensation began once more to course through him. "You are nothing." he heard a voice hiss in his head. Something inside him ignited at the comment and he felt immense power well up within. The light burst forth again, ripping through the cold and the dark. "No!" He shouted in his mind. He started to push away from the ground, and felt the bonds of darkness try to fight to no avail. He struggled back to a crouching position, his arms resting on his knees. "I. Am. Strega!" He felt his power growing as he got to his feet. He could feel that he had a physical voice for the first time. He sucked in air and blew out his chest with pride. "And I! Am! A Saiyan!" ---------------------------------- WC: 1103 TWC: 1103 |

The Dragon of Valhalla
At his final statement his energy shot forth with explosive potential, seeking to stretch to every corner of the darkness. He hear what sounded like a scream in his head as the darkness was obliterated by his strength. His blood pounded through his body, bringing new warmth. The area around him seemed to pulse with a strange energy. It seemed almost as if the darkness were alive. He could feel the thrum of its power in his chest. His mind started to clear from the fog as the darkness started to retreat. It looked as if it were going down an invisible drain at first but then it started to draw to a central point. The darkness compounded into a ball of dark sludge. As it continued to congeal it began to take on a shape. Four limbs protruded from the blob at first, two top and two bottom. Then it started to lengthen and stretch. The gel-like substance starte to withdraw. A pair of leathery wings burst out of it, sending dark liquid in all directions. The rest of the darkness whisked away and sure enough there was a figure standing before him. It at first looked like a monster. Eight feet tall with a gaping mouth and horns on its head. But then it started shrinking down to roughly the same size as he was. He looked to be a young boy with pale skin and a blue tattoo over his right eye. He wore dark black clothes under a trench coat. In his hands he held thick metal chains, broken in several places. He stared down at the chains in his hands before looking up at Strega with a smile on his face. "We'll I must say that I am impressed. Few have had the ability to break my eternal sleep curse." The demon spoke. Strega growled under his breath an allowed more of his power to show. His aura kicked up like a firestorm, engulfing his body. "So you are the one that brought me here! Who are you!?" Strega growled. "My, my you do have a temper. They were right. There's no need to be shouting now. I am Kesdeya, the shadow master. And you have been my guest for quite some time now. I thought for sure you would be broken." Strega scowled at the boy before him, knowing that underneath the fragile looking exterior he was sure to be dangerous. He looked around, able to gather his surroundings forte first time. He seemed to be on board the Resolution, but there was something off about it. "Where are we? Why have you been detaining me." He growled. Kesdeya smirked in return. "Well surely you must know by now. You were becoming a nuisance. We couldn't have you running around and ruining our plans now could we?" "What are you talking about? What are you planning?" The demon laughed in a high pitched cackle. "Surely you figured it out by now. It perhaps your memory is still not entirely intact. No matter, soon enough the awakening will take full effect and you will once again be with your brethren." "What are you talking about? What awakening? What..." He trailed off. He didn't know why but something inside him stirred at the questioning. Something that told him the awakening was about him and not some threat of a new foe. At least if it was, the foe was within him. He tried to pinpoint exactly what it was inside him, if maybe they had put something there. But he could feel that this thing had been there all along. He had felt it before. During his abuse by his Saiyan superiors. Whenever he was having his nightmares. Especially when he was in the heat of battle. This thing within was a dark entity that became fueled by his pain and anger. He had never thought about it before now. If he did he had just attributed it to his saiyan bloodlust. "What, am I?" "You still don't get it do you? Well, I suppose it doesn't matter anyways. You have nothing and no one and eventually you will find out." "What have you done with the others?" "I already told you. Few have the ability to escape my power." Strega roared. "We'll then I guess I'll have to break you and release them." He felt the full strength of his power well up again. His body steamed and he felt the darkness inside of him wriggle with delight. "Oh, you're welcome to try. I'm going to enjoy this." The demon spat as Strega leaped towards him. --------------- Wc: 768 Twc:1871 |

Strega unleaded a flurry of punches and kicks that hit nothing but air. Kesdeya was fast, that much he had to give him. It seemed that no matter how fast he tried to attack that the enemy before him would always be faster. He threw combo after combo and still hit nothing. He stood back, panting in frustration. The child like form before him just smiled in a mocking way, not saying a word. "I've had enough of you. Take this!" He charged his energy once more and put his hands to the side before unleashing a volley of blasts. The air around them for ht from the amount of energy. He watched as his continued expenditure did nothing bit provide a fun game of dodge for the demon. "I must say I truly expected more from you." The demon mocked. The familiar feeling started to bubble inside of Strega. It was as if it were a beast rattling its cage. It begged to be let out so that it might have a chance to rip apart the thing that was taunting it. He still wasn't sure of what it was now but Strega allowed it to rise up and come through him. He could feel its rage and power. His face turned from one of exhaustion into a smile of malice. He could tell that go captor could sense the change because his mocking expression turned to one of surprise an fear. Strega laughed, a low demonic chuckle. "We'll see how disappointed you are." He resumed his assault on the beast, only his time when he charge in an brought god right elbow to the left side of its face there was the satisfying reverberation of flesh on flesh. It seemed like slow motion to him now. He kicked out his opponents legs with his own left causing the demon to float in the air momentarily. He raised both hands above his head and dropped them like hammers into the you longs ribs. He took pleasure in the crack that he felt upon contact. The floor dented from the impact of the others body. It took Kesdeya a moment but e eventually redound his feet. "I see that you have embraced your inner demon." He said, wiping blood from his lip. Strega didn't argue the comment, he knew as soon as he said that it was true. Some part of him was demon. He wasn't sure how, he had always thought his mother was a human. He had suffered so much at the hand of the saiyans because of it. He had always held a resentment to them for it. But now he wasn't sure what had happened. He knew that he was party a demon. It resonated with him and seemed to thrum with the truth of it. It was as if he was finally starting to discover who he was. But he was still unsure of why he ha believed his mother was a human. Why I he was part demon and part saiyan he was such a rarity among both. He sought peace and didn't delight in anyone else's misery. By now Kesdeya had gained his feet again. He skin seemed to crawl an then steam. Black whisps of smoke trailed off of him. He started to shift back into his demon form growing at least twice his size. It was a horrifying process to watch as his face stretches into a maw and teeth became fangs. His nails grew into three inch talons. Strega readied himself as the hulk lumbered toward him. It raised a tree trunk sized arm and swing in an attempt to eviscerate him. Strega flipped backwards just in time to dodge it. He sprung back on his hands before landing in a ready stance. He launched four balls of energy towards the thing but his chest opened up and they passed through without doing any damage. It's mouth opened up in a grunting laugh. Kesdeya's voice had become a low growl. "Hah. You forget, I'm the shadow master. You can't touch me." Strega again threw a flurry of physical strikes that passed through as if he were swatting smoke. He tried everything in his play book and still couldn't manage to touch the thing. When he finally let up and was trying to figure out he felt his body get rocked. He had missed the telegraph of a right haymaker. He went flying to the side and slammed against the hull of the ship. He had to extricate himself from the mangled ship. Stepping carefully out he felt his body begin to ache. He knew that he wasn't able to take another hit like that. There had to be a way to stop the shadow. Obviously it had control over web it was solid or not. Other wise he would not be in such pain. He smiled to himself when an idea came to him. He advanced on the beast yet again but withheld an attack. He waited until he was being swung at and tried to strike but as he thought it did nothing. He allowed himself to be attacked, continuously dodging the strikes. Meanwhile he was focusing on Kesdeyas mind. He knew that the shadow master was focused on their physical battle and would be distracted. Eventually he found what he was looking for. He was able to access the part that controlled the consistency of the demons body. "Checkmate!" He said with a smirk. He dodged under another strike before launching his body into the giants gut. It keeled forward from the blow. Kesdeya realized what had happened too late. Strega grabbed him by the arm and spun around before throwing him into the air like a shot put. The beast broke through the roof of the ship and into open air. Strega speed teleported ahead of him. He launched a flurry of physical strikes before grasping it by both arms. "Game over?" He laughed. He put his feet on the shadows chest and held both arms. A bright light started to emanate from his throat before he released a heavy mouth blast into the things face as he wrenched upwards. The demon screamed a its arms disconnected from its body and he hurled back I the ground. Strega followed and found the mangled body of Kesdeya waiting for him. He was back to human form. "Fine. You win. I'll let you go. But mark my words when your friends see what it is you truly are you're going to be crawling back to us. Just you wait." Strega stood beside the defeated creature staring down at him. "I may be something that I didn't know. But I know that I am surely not one of you. You release my friends and I let you live. I'm sure that you're not giving up so easily. Whatever it is you think I am to you you're wrong." He turned his back and began to walk away as a haze lifted from his surroundings. Everything seemed to come out in higher definition. As if it had been in a fog before. Strega knew that he was finally back in the real world and it felt good. ---------------------------- WC: 1203 TWC: 3074 |

The Dragon of Valhalla
Strega took his first deep breath of real air. He let it slowly fill his lungs, his chests swelling with the life giving substance. He concentrated on the energy as it filled belly before coursing up and through his legs, down through his toes and back up to his arms and fingers. It finished the circuit once it made its was back and out through his mouth. It felt good to know that he was finally free of the prison he had been in for years. He looked around at his surroundings. He stepped out of the main entrance to his ship. A cool breeze tussled the grass and trees. He felt it across his bare skin and rejoice in it. He took another deep breath and looked over the outside of his craft. It had been untouched by time, although there was a protrusion where he had hit the wall and a large portion of the roof was bent outwards. It seemed that they were in a place between worlds but the damage had been real enough. It would probably take weeks to fix what had been done. He wasn't worried about it though. After his encounter he was determined I strengthen his mind so that it would never happen again. He had put so many people at risk, not only his crew but countless others. The thought of his crew made a pit in his stomach. He had momentarily forgotten that they too had been captive. He hoped that they would be on the ship as he had. He worried that he had been unsuccessful in rescuing them and that they now would be destroyed or worse. He rushed into the ship but stopped short of the crew quarters. He listened for any sign of life, any trace that they might till be ok. It sounded like a ghost shop, eerily quiet. He started to worry aboutvwhatbthe silence meat and dreaded continuing in with his exploration. Just as he was about to give up all hope he heard something. It was a small noise that repeated. Eventually it became clear what it was. "Hello?" Came a small voice from one of the rooms. Strega bolted for the door that had held the voice. It sounded strained, as if it hasn't been used in some time. The whoosh of the airlock sounded as the door slid open to reveal a young saiyan. Soren's face lot up when he saw his commander. Strega smiled in return. "Welcome back!" Strega laughed. "What's going on? I feel like I've been stuffed in a suitcase for ages, and I had the strangest dream." Strega could tell by the look of confusion on the boys face he had no idea about any of what had transpired. "All in good time. Let's check on the others first and I really would like to speak to Gruldw." -------------------------------------- Fifteen minutes later Strega was sitting amongst his crew in the common area of the ship. He had been happy to find out that none of them had come to any harm and all of them were still fully themselves. He also was surprised to find that they all had no recollection of anything aside from feeling as if they had been in a deep slumber for a long period of time. He had managed to explain to them waht had happened in a nutshell. The whole time that he explained though he noticed that Gruldw had a troubled look on his face and would not look him directly in the eyes. He didn't address it and decided that it was best left for the private conversation he planned to have with the demon. "So you're telling me that we have been sitting here doing nothing for over a year?" Blaze spoke up. "It appears that way." Strega replied. "I don't get it. Wouldn't someone have approached us or thought something was fishy as soon as they see our ship but noone moving?" Gruldw intercepted the question. "No. That's the nature of Kesdeya's power. It creates illusion. As far as anyone on this planet knows we weren't here. Most likely they believed we left with no explanation. Meanwhile we were all trapped in a parallel dimension of sorts. Our ship truly wasn't on this planet and neither were any of us. That's also why none of us show any signs of aging or anything. We were literally frozen in time." The disgraced demon spoke. "No way!?" Soren shouted in shock. "The idea that anyone has that kind of power is ridiculous isn't it? I mean there is no way that they could be that strong. If they are then we wouldn't stand a chance. Right?" The young saiyan scanned the room for some form of support. Veta stood and walked out of the room in cold silence, triggering the rest if them to stand ad start I make there way out. Samara stoppe next to him and placed her had on his shoulder. "Don't worry little brother. Think of it this way, if they really are that strong they will just offer more of a challenge to test your strength." Soren's face showed that her answer didn't help. "Besides," she continued "even if they are that strong, our fearless leader already managed to best one of them. I'm sure if they try anything again he'll send them running off with their tails between their legs." Soren smiled up at his surrogate sister. They had all become like family over their time together. "Let's go get some food. I'm starved. Haven't eaten in over a year." Soren's face lit up and took her hand before they made their way towards the galley. Strega looked aroun at the now emptied seats. He took a deep breath an closed his eyes. "I'm sure you have a lot of questions for me." Came a voice from behind. Strega opened his eyes and slowly turned to face Gruldw again. "You knew?" Strega asked, already knowing the answer. "Yes, partly. I knew of your heritage. I knew that they were hunting you because of it. I still am not completely sure as to why. When I was stripped of my position I was taken prisoner. They attempted to break my mind. I managed to break their inquisitor but not before he took some of my memory. I am not entirely myself any longer Strega, you must know. I was once a powerful and terrifying warrior but they managed to break something so I am only a shadow of my former self." Strega nodded in understanding. "I understand. But please, tell me what you know. I need to know so perhaps I might get an idea of what exactly it is that they think I am." "Very well, but you should know my information is not entirely clear." "Anything you can tell me is appreciated. I always thought my mother was a human. But now I don't know what to believe." "Your mother was a human, at least mostly, that much is true. From what I gathered your mother was a host for something else, something powerful. She had no idea what it was it even that it was there. Our elders had divined that she was destined to give birth to one that would be important. This is where my memory gets fuzzy. I'm not sure why, the hold was either a champion of their cause or a destroyer of it. All that I can recall was that the grand leaders decided to try and take matters into their own hands. Your mother shared blood with us, but only from a great great ancestor. It was an easy matter to possess her with a darkness that would either destroy or control you. Something went wrong though, they had neither of the outcomes they had expected. Instead you became something else entirely. You vanished from their radar and they assumed you were lost." Gruldw paced to a table and placed his hand on it. "Fate had a plan though it seems. Whenever you got involved in this you were almost immediately recognized. The power within you is strange and has a different affect on all of us. It calls to me, that's how I found you. I'm sure for Kesdeya it caused unimaginable terror once he saw it come to the surface. I can see it in you now, although it is subdued. I know that it will eventually surface again and that there is much more power within you, far more than even I had attained. But you must be careful. If you can't control it, you will be destroyed." Strega let out a deep sigh. "We'll that's comforting." Gruldw smiled softly. "Don't worry, I have faith in you." Strega smirked at the comment and thought for a moment. "Is there anything else I should know?" "That's all I have at this time." "Hey Gruldw, why were you exiled?" Strega could see that the memory pained the former general. "It was a some time shortly after your birth. Around the time that you first disappeared from our ability to track you. We knew of your mother and father though. There were plans to infiltrate the saiyan ranks and convince them to seek you out. Even though we might not have been able to touch you they could have done the dirty work. It wasn't hard to work our way in, the saiyans prize many of the same things we do. If it meant power for them they were willing hosts." "Wait. You said we?" "Indeed. I was the one tasked with finding you and either destroying you or bringing you back. I'm not entirely certain, but I do know that something changed within me that day. We waited for your father and mother to get banished and then I watched as my men brutally murdered your father. The truth is thy it wasnt part of the plan. The host bodies were the ones that insisted upon killing him, and it's very unlike a demon to deny violence." Strega just sat in silence as he listens to Gruldw's story. His first reaction was anger but then he remembered that his ally had turned against them and come to save his life. He calmed himself and let him continue. "Your mother escaped but we managed to track her down. My orders were to annihilate your family and deal with you. But something happened that day, when I was about to deliver the final blow I looked at your mother. She had you cradled in her arms. You were just a child but already I could tell that there was something different. You were destined for something great. Something changed inside of me. I defied my masters. I annihilated my own force and spared your mother. I told her though that she had to disappear, otherwise they might find you through her. You were no longer at risk of being found. I went into hiding. Eventually I was captured and the rest is history." Strega stood for a long while just staring at the ground. "I understand if you can't trust me," Gruldw started. "No. Thank you. For everything," Strega cut in "at least now I know there is a chance my mother is still alive somewhere. And I not for you I wouldn't be where I am today. I can't complain." His whole life he had spent thinking he was alone. He had thought his parents dead and that there was no one in the universe that cared for him. He had been raised with the knowledge that he was nothing, a no one. Everyone had told him that he would amount to nothing. Now he had learned that everything was just the opposite. The idea that all of these things had taken place and that he had so much influence when he was still just an infant. The thought of it seemed insane. "Thank you for telling me your story. Now what do you say we get some food?" The two warriors smiled at each other. They clasped arm in a firm hand shake. "It would be my honor." Gruldw finished. --------------- WC: 2016 TWC: 5090 Saga End! |
