A bright orange sunrise cast its radiance across the clearing. Long fingers of shadow reached towards the Resolution. The nearby trees stood silent watch over it. The high pitched call of a bird arrows through the crisp morning air. Strega stepped off the saiyan warship, his normal color had finally returned and he was more had his youthful zest. He had been troubled with the events leading up to his return. They had kept him up for some time and even then he had been kept in his deep slumber for so long that sleep was not something he had the the to do. He decided that he would take a walk and clear his mind. He couldn't let the past bother him and he would not fret about the future. What would come would come. That was all there was to it. So now he stood outside of his ship in the misty morning air, a smile on his face and a spring in his step. There was something about the way the sun was shining an the birds were singing. He took a deep breath and stepped away from the place that had been his prison for over a year. He ha thought about waking everyone but they seemed exhausted. Instead, he had left a not telling them not to worry and he would return in due time. He stepped into the forested area, headed in the direction of the forest of illusion. He wanted to clear his head. He started to think about his entrapment and why it had happened. He knew that he couldn't let it happen again and as such he planned to say on Kanassa so that he might learn to strengthen his mind from intrusion and also be able to use it as a more effective weapon. He continued to wander without really knowing where he was headed. Eventually he stopped when he felt the presence of another brush up against his consciousness. It was a gentle greeting, asking him to open up to it. He looked around and spotted a single Kanassan standing in silence. "Hello" he said in his mind. "Greetings Saiyan." The Kanassan responded. He always had a hard time telling the gender of the fish people but throug their mental control he could tell that this one was male. The fish-man smile at him, something that he had to admit looked mildly funny. "You seek to strengthen the power of your mind." It was a statement, not a question. Strega had no choice but to nod his head in agreement. "I sense that you do not seek to gather strength so that you might harm others, but instead that you might use it for good. There is a place where those of our race gather to train in the power of mind. Go towards the forest of illusion. You will find a temple. Tell them that I have sent you." Strega received a picture of the place in his mind. He did not say anything back, merely nodded his head and bowed in thanks. He then solemnly made his way to the destination. --------- WC:525/1800 |

Strega followed the directions in his mind. It was not difficult to follow, it was if he knew the way the whole time. He could tell thy without the instructions given to him though that there would have been absolutely no way of undoing his destination. He came across a small clearing, well hidden from the rest of the forest. The first thing that he noticed was the way the sun shined down through the trees. It perfectly illuminated the area and made it seem almost ethereal. The second was that it seemed that all sound had been shut off. The place was quiet as a church, only adding to the feeling of inner peace and reverie. A large ancient ruin dominated the background. It had obviously been there long before any other civilization. It had been over grown with moss and matte with dirt in spots, but it still inspired awe. As Strega approached the ruins he became aware of a group of people meditating in the light. Each of them looked calm and at peace. He noticed an ancient looking Kanassan sitting at the head of the group. Strega silently made his way to the head of the group and kneeled before the one he assumed to be in charge. Since it was so silent he decided it was best he communicate through telepathy. He projected himself gently towards the master so that he would not be perceived as a threat. "Greetings, my name is Strega. I was told that I might find a way to strengthen my mind here." Strega bowed deep to the master and yet got no response. He once again tried to mentally brush up against the ancient alien. This time he was shocked when he felt a stabbing probe lash out at his mind. He couldn't tell much about it since it happened so fast but he knew that it was powerful. He was afraid that he had somehow offended the master but he refused to give up. Instead he bowed once more and did not speak. It seemed several hours before the other decided to speak. "My name is Ja'vei, you are correct. But you have much to learn. You are still young, but I sense the desire to learn. I shall train you but first you must pass our trials. Follow me." He was led down a path to an area where several other Kanassans were sitting. They were mostly young although there were a few elders there. "These are our apprentices. You shall meditate here until you are able to best another." Without another word Ja'vei turned and left him there. Strega settled down and started to meditate. Before he could gather his wits about him he felt the prescience of another forcibly probing into his mind. He did his best to fight it off but soon felt another. He could feel them in his thoughts, learning every intimate detail. It took him some time but he was eventually able to force the others out by focusing on a single thought. He had to concentrate on his defenses so that he wouldn't be overwhelmed again. He could feel anytime that his consciousness was attacked but managed to stone wall them every time. Eventually he felt comfortable enough in his defenses that he was able to do some on his own recon. He learned that there were seven of them total in the clearing and each one of them were quite capable in terms of mental strength. He was unable to break into a single one of their minds. He knew he had to figure out a way around their defense. He decided to take a gamble. He opened up his mind just enough so that one person could break through. It had taken him sometime but he was able to figure out a way to lure an attacker in. He made it seem as if he had let his guard down and given the others a back door. He could feel when another took advantage and entered his mind. Instead of fight Strega lead the other down a path of false memories, tricking him into thinking he was victorious. The one in his mind thought that he had accomplished his task and in his glee, opened his own mind. Strega struck swiftly, inching his way inside of his opponents head. He felt the attempt at defense but it was too late. He saw glimpses of the others life. Childhood heart ache, intense happiness, pain, laughter. It was a if he was living the others life. After a moment he withdrew, knowing he was the victor. When he opened his eyes he saw the one that he had attacked. His eyes were wide and his jaw was dropped in shock. "Very good. You have passed the first test. Now follow me." Strega stood at the masters words an silently followed him toward the ruins. --------------- WC: 822 TWC: 1347/1800 |

Strega was surprised to learn that although it had felt like only a few hours h had been sitting there meditating for a week. At fest he didn't believe it but when his stomach started growling he knew it was the truth. He was allowed to eat until he had his fill. He was starving but he took his time so that he wouldn't get sick. He also made sure to hold back so that if need be he could still function. When he was finished eating Ja'vei came to him once more. "Now that you have passed the first test, can you tell me why it was that it was vital for you to learn patience?" Strega pondered for a moment before he answered, sensing that he would be judged based upon his response. "Well, I know that there are obvious reasons, such as being able to way for the right moment to strike. But the lesson was about more than just battling an opponent. I had to be patient enough to look within myself at my own flaws and failings. Only once I was able to know how it was they were besting me was I able to defend against them. After that I had to take my time to learn each of their patterns and intricacies. I was able to tell wether or not try were truly a threat and after long enough find a weakness within them." Ja'vei smiled. "Can you tell me why it is that you must pass our tests before we teach you our secrets?" Strega nodded. "If I do not pass the tests put efre me then I am unworthy of the power I seek. Power such as this must be guarded fiercely, especially one such as this. If I am unable to how my worth and I still learn how to strengthen my mind then the chances are that I will abuse the power and use it to control others against their will. This power can be used for great good, but also for terrible evil." Ja'vei seemed pleased. "Congratulations, you have passed the test of wisdom." -------------- WC:354 TWC: 1701/1800 |

Strega was once again led back to the clearing where the others had been meditating. He was instructed to sit once more and Ja'vei stood before him. "Now, there is only one last test that you must face. This is the test of courage." Strega nodded back to the elder. When he heard that it was a test of courage he thought for sure he had it in the bag. He had proven himself in combat time and time again and he assumed that this test would be something similar to his trials in the past. "This trial is by far the hardest you shall face, because in it you must face yourself. Calm your mind and open yourself to me." Strega did as he was told and allowed his guard to come down. He wondered what it was the master was planning on doing. He did his best to push te thoughs aside and calm his nerves. Once he was fully calm he let out asleep sigh. "Do not fight me." He hear the alien speak and began to wonder why it had meant before he felt his mind come into contact with another. The power was immense, it took everything in him not to panic. There was absolutely no way that he stood a chance against it. He pushed his fear aside and allowed the master further entrance. He could see everything that Ja'vei was seeing, as if he were watching a movie of his own memories. He could tell that he was in search of something in particular. He had to stop himself from fighting back when he saw the memory that Ja'vei was dragging up. Suddenly the force of the Kanassan doubled and added with the dark memories of his failure and his loved or demise. "You will fail!" The voice boomed. Strega was overcome with the force of it. He cowered inside his own mind. He knew the voice was true. He thought of those he cared for, of the way their faces would look when they learned his secret and that he had failed them. "No!" He cried. He pushed back against the force again. "I will not be defeated!" He felt the words resonate inside of him. His eye flashed open as he pushed the intruder out of his mind. When he realized what was happening he was standing, his aura flaring about him. Before him Ja'vei was laying on the ground with a smile on his face. "Welcome to the order." ------------ WC: 417 TWC: 2118 QUEST COMPLETE |
