It had been a few days since Strega had been welcomed into the Order of Saljuk. He had spent the time since then meditating in the temple. He would meditate alone sometimes but much of the time he was practicing his telepathy with the other disciples. He had been instructed to focus on telepathy before going on to telekinesis. He shows promise when it came to his studies and was soon besting students that had been there longer than he. He threw himself into his work and was determined to become the strongest he could possibly be. Initially his crew was worried about him but he explained to them that he was training with local masters. They eventually accepted it although they wished they could join him but it was not his place to invite them. He began to stay with the order so that he might further learn from the various masters. He was surprised to find just how many different disciplines there seemed to be within the order. He was told that there were tiers and a certain progression that would be best to strengthen his mental powers. If he were to try and branch off without following the path prescribe to him than he risked the danger of not realizing his full potential. He was patient with his masters and trusted in them to know what was best. He woul by let pride or selfishness incur upon his training. So he continued I practice with the other students. Eventually there were none that could best him. Eventually he began to train with elder members of the order, finding them the only match for him. Not much longer after he started to find that he could beat even the elders. He ha not seen Je'vai but he could feel that he was being watched by him. He studied, and trained, and meditated. He could feel himself becoming more confident and his strength grew with each passing day. After a while of training with the others Je'vai returned to him. "Strega, You have shown much promise. I would like you to meet someone. This is Ja'rel." The old kanassan motioned toward another that was standing beside him. From first glance Strega could see that this one was what he guessed to be a female of their race. She looked as if she were even more ancient than the one introducing her. Her skin was leathery and brown, weathered from many years of harsh treatment. Never the less, her diminutive frame showed signs of a great power within. Even though she was obviously old and seemingly frail, she gave off a confidence that made one think twice about testing her skills. Her stunning blue eyes hinted at a sharp wit and keen intellect. She carried herself like a much younger person and when she spoke her voice held authority. She stepped up to Strega and began to scrutinize him. "Well, he certainly looks physically fit, we shall see just how strong his spirit is." She looked back to Ja'vei. "I will train him. Only time will tell if he is as promising a student as you say." Je'vai nodded and motioned to Strega. "Strega, you will train under Ja'rel for the time being. She is one of our greatest teachers and it is considered an honor to be chosen as her student. If you seek mental strength than she is your best bet. Go now an learn what you can. Return once you have mastered her lessons." "I will not let you down master." Strega smiled and bowed. "I am your dedicated pupil Master Ja'rel." "We shall see. Come with me, your training starts immediately." She motioned towards another section of the ruins and began to walk. Strega followed close behind. --------------------- WC: 626 TWC: 626/1800 |

Ja'rel eventually stopped in an area that was secluded from the rest of the order. She walked through a damaged archway and into what seemed to have once been a study of sorts. There was no ceiling to speak of and parts of the wall were knocked down or missing. The block itself was covered in moss and lichen. Another doorway lead to a small room with a bedroll and a fireplace. Over top of the pile of wood a pot was suspended. It seemed very low tech but Strega ha learned the order preferred things simple. When they entered, the logs inside the fireplace ignited an cast a reddish glow over the dark room. "Welcome to my abode. This will be where you are to stay for the duration of your training. I require strict discipline if my students and you are to complete a set of chores each day. You must fetch wood for the fire and keep everything clean. For now though we begin your studies." Strega nodded his agreement. "Yes Master." "Before you become a master of any task you must start small. Before you can walk you must crawl, just as a child learns. The first thing that you must learn to do is called spirit walking. It is a form of remote viewing." As she spoke she worked over the fire with the pot, adding different ingredients into the pot. "I have heard you are accomplished with your telepathy, this is the next step in your progression. You must close your eyes and feel the rhythm of life within you. Feel the ki well inside of you, feel the essence of the world draw into you with each breath, feel the depths of you true self. If you do not know yourself you will not be able to accomplish this task, if you have fear or doubt you will not accomplish this task, and if you cannot accomplish this task than I can not teach you." Strega was nervous but he did his best to concentrate on the master's instructions. He sat on the floor with his legs crossed and rested his palms on iOS knees. He took deliberate breaths, feeling each of them fill his lungs. The air around him started to grow thick with steam from the concoction within the pot. He reached deep inside himself seeking out his inner spirit. He had used his power on others before, but it was much different when he was delving into his own mind. He had expected that it would be a simple thing, he had picked apart others countless times. Surely since he was inside his own head it would be simpler but instead, he found that there was more resistance. He realized that there was still much about himself that he had not learned. Something inside of him was blocking his ability to get to his core. The further he tried to push the more he became mired in his own confusion and doubt. He reached a point at which he finally believed he might have attained control, he found memories of his life as a saiyan and belief in that truth. "I think I have it" he said. "Good. Now focus upon your spirit and will it to exit your body. Do not fear for you will yet live but you will experience everything from outside of your body." He did as he was told and felt as if part of him were breaking off. He had a brief moment where he experienced both internal and external. He could feel it happening and then he started to feel a great strain. He tried to maintain his spirit but something wasn't right about it. His vision started to wane and he was sweating profusely. After a few more moments he blacked out. ------------------------- WC:634 TWC: 1260 |

When he awoke he was lying on the ground in the same place he had been sitting. Ja'rel crouched over him with a look of amusement on her face. Strega's head felt as if was split open and his body ached. "Easy does it now. Lets get you up nice and slow." She helped him into a sitting position and went to the pot. "I must say that you did much better than I expected. Far beyond the usual students I have. Here drink this." She ladled some liquid into a bowl and handed it to Strega. In the bowl floated a pungent purple soup. There were different herbs floating in it that he was unfamiliar with. "Come now, drink up. It will make everything better, I promise." Strega quaffed the soup down quickly. It was surprisingly good and he had to admit it did make him feel much better. The aching abated and the headache subsided. "What happened?" He asked. The old crone sat down before him and smiled. "You doubted who you were. There is still some learning you have to do apparently. If you cannot accept yourself you cannot know yourself and one who does not know themselves cannot project their spirit. Don't worry, it will come, I have faith in you. Strega dedicated all of his time to delving in to who he was and why it was that he had experienced what he had. It was not something that Ja'rel was familiar with and she had no answers for him. She told him that of he got to know himself he would know the answer, and so he tried. He worked tirelessly at it. He needed to use the Kanassans soup several more times as every time that it seemed e was on the verge of a breakthrough he would be stonewalled again. He couldn't understand why it was that his subconscious wouldn't open up to him. A week passed an still he was unable to find what it was that stopped him. He was determined to figure it out and wouldn't take no for an answer. He had just come back from gathering firewood when he felt something speak to him. "You're never going to succeed. You're just a monster waiting to happen." The words echoed through him and he knew that he had found the answer. He needed to make peace with himself and accept the other half of himself. He sat down and cleared his mind. He allowed his defenses to roll back and he pushed into his mind. He pushed past very thing others darkest recesses of his memory. He could feel a darkness unlike any other he had felt before. It was locked away and had its own barrier that he could tell he had created. He didn't care what it was that the demon had said, he would remain himself no matter what. He would not allow himself to be consumed by whatever beast was inside of him. He needed to accept the fact that he was not entirely what he thought he was. He started to break down the barriers around the beast within and he could feel as it started to drag him down. He focused on that which was good in his life. He focused on the fact that he had saved people and protected the innocent. He was good and he would not fall into darkness. He would accept what he was but he would remain himself. As he reassured himself he could feel the darkness abate itself. He knew that he was ready to accomplish his task and he willed his spirit to exit his body. He opened his eyes and saw himself sitting on the floor in a meditative state. He looked down and saw that he was ethereal. He walked out of the chamber and into the open air. He could see the spirit of all the living things within the forest. It was breath taking, to see the world the way he did. "I see that you have made peace with yourself." He heard the familiar voice behind him. He turned to see his master behind him, although her form was thy of a much younger, zestful girl. He bowed low to her. "It's amazing, I never though that I could see this way." He said. "This is the way of the spirit walker as it is why it is so important that you learn this first. If not for your training here, you would never know the truth about the world." "I understand." "Congratulations, you have learned to crawl." The Kanassan said with a smile on her face. ------------------- WC: 773 TWC: 2033/1800 QUEST COMPLETE! |
