The astral plane was teeming with spirits. Ever since Strega had perfected the ability of spirit walking he spent most of his time familiarizing himself with it. He had been instructed to make the astral plane his second home. During this time he found that he most enjoyed talking to the spirits of nature. He learned that the ancient forest had seen much and knew much.

Ja'rel Was pleased with his progress, he had managed to learn faster than many of her students. Strega couldn't help but be proud of his progress. He felt sad if he were finally on the track to protecting his mind. He would make sure that he was never a prisoner of his own mind again.

He couldn't help but laugh at the fact that he had originally come to Kanassa because of a spar with Seta. He had witnessed her use of the power and as such wanted to learn about it. Now he had dedicated much time to perfecting it and understanding it. He was determined to be one of the great masters of telepathy.

He had proved that he was a worthy student, able to spirit walk for long Reid's of time. Ja'rel gave him tasks to accomplish, mostly information to learn or an. Area to scout. He learned that you were able to do much using spirit walking, and that there was danger in it as well. He had to be vigilant since his body was left unprotected during he process.

After he showed his capability with maintaining a spirit walk Ja'rel stared to accompany him. She told him that there were also dangers in the astral plane. Not all spirits were good and many would wish him harm. These spirits existed normally but his heightened sensitive to the aspirin realm would now make him aware of these spirits and as such he would have to learn to defend himself.

She started to train him as you would in the physical world in the astral plane. It was very similar but also very different. To make any type of physical attack he had to will the contact to happen, otherwise he would merely be a whisp blowing in the wind. He found that after go training when he returned to his body he would be in need of the soup that the Kanassans made.

His ki attacks operates much the same way except that they came directly from his spirit and seemed to meld with him when they were used. He practiced with his master and found that he was quite skilled, even if she was not so imposing in the physical world.

Eventually she decided that it was time for the next step of his training.

"Strega I think it is time you meet one of my other students. Like you, he shows much promise. He is quite advanced and I believe that he would be a good way to test your progress."

She led him from the ruins deeper into the woods. No words were spoken, Strega merely followed. They went in further than he had been before. He could feel the forest growing in thicker around him. They eventually came to a stop in a thicket.

A single form sat on the ground. His back was hunched and he seemed to be in an awkward position.

"Strega, this is Ja'hiem."

The figure stood an turned towards them. Strega could see that he was not a physical person. He was frail and sickly looking. His back was hunched and when he drew breath he wheezed. His skin was pale and pulled tight over his gaunt features. The Kanassan bowed deeply and Strega returned the gesture.

"He is my best student. I have decided that for your second trial you must bet him in combat."

Strega looked him over and couldn't help but find the idea humorous. Obviously this boy was no warrior.

"Master?" He asked.

"You must best him in combat on the astral plane. If you can manage that then you are ready to face the next stage of your training."

Strega got excited for a moment. He looked at the one that would be his opponent and was overcome with confidence. His eyes then went to the master and he remembered how powerful she was in spirit. This might prove to be a true challenge.

"It would be my honor master." He said with a now.

Ja'hiem smiled with glee and bowed once more before taking a few steps and sitting down into a meditation position. Strega bowed back and sat down a few yards away, facing his opponent. He took a deep breath, feeling his spirit and let it release from the bonds of the flesh. He had a last thought of nervousness a e felt himself enter the spirit realm.

Strega found himself once more on the astral plane. It looked the same as always, as if the world were covered with a sheer blue sheet. His surroundings were the same but everything looked hazy now. He could see himself sitting and shortly behind him was Ja'rel. Her spirit stood beside her body, a smirk upon her face.

Something in her expression worried Strega. He knew that her sense of humor was rather dry and that her look was about something that would be a surprise to him. Strega scanned the area, alert for any danger. He spotted the body of Ja'hiem across from him, but something was wrong. An aura of light was slotting around the Kanassan. It seemed to grow and build upon itself.

It formed into the shape of the boy but e had a wicked smile on his face. It unnerved him that his opponent should be so sure of himself. The smile began to form into something else, it extended and his teeth grew long. His back hulled and his body stretched. His hands became monstrosities, each finger ended in a six inch sword like claw. His nose protruded into a snout and his pupils dilated to slits.

Strega watched the horrifying transformation happen before his eyes. He flashed back to the first time he had fought one of the demon generals. He looked much the same way as one of their full demon forms. Perhaps this was part of the reason that Ja'rel had chosen to pit him against the other student. She had seen and knew his fears and concerns. This beast caused him to dredge up old memories and it distracted him.

He stood and stared for a moment, but remembered he needed to focus on the present. He pushed aside his doubts and fears and looked up at they fuly transformed Ja'hiem. He stood at least fifteen feet tall, towering over the other two. His teeth looked like daggers and his body was as thick as a tree trunk. His hands were like frying pans and completed with vicious talons. He was truly an intimidating beast but Strega had destroyed beasts before.

He was determined to win this fight. He launched himself with all his might towards the massive being. He was within inches, ready to attack and he felt a thick paw slam him in the side. It was a mug different sensation than he had vet felt. He had been in many physical confrontations before and he was no strafet to pain. This pain, however, was far different. It hurt a if his heart had been broken or a frown had died. It was nothing physical, but far worse.

He had felt the claws pass through his body and had been thrown several yards but when he looked down there was no damage. He fet drained though, as if he had expended a great amount of energy. He imagined that it was due to the nature of their combat. There was no physical form to take damage so instead it was in the form of energy.

He knew that he would be unable to withstand many more blows such as that. He had under estimated the speed since the beast was so large. He needed to realize that size didn't matter, especially in the astral realm. He got back to his feet and tried once more to attack the monster. He made te same move but was prepared for the swipe. He quickly dipped under the arm and landed two punches to it's gut.

He kept dancing around the Kanassan's body, over and under his massive arms. He landed blow after blow an yet there was still no sign of him tiring. Strega pulled back and allowed his energy to build up within. He cupped his hands and threw forth a beam of green energy. He watched as the Dodonpa beam zeroed in on the things face. He thought that the blast was a sure hit until the monster opened its mouth and swallowed the beam whole.

Strega stared in disbelief as his attack was harmlessly sucked into the gullet of the beast. He observed as a light, very similar in color to the beam he had just fired, built up in the back of the monsters throat. As he watched he saw that the light was growing. It seemed as if the thing were going to bury before it unleashed the energy at Strega.

He quickly dive to the side, the attack missing by mere inches. Strega growled in distaste as he true to figure out what had happened. He needed to do something or else he was going to be destroyed. He summoned forth his ki again ad launched a volley of beam balls. Again the attack was completely devoured and he was forced to take flight in order to avoid the return volley.

He strafed to his left, hoping to find a weakness to this thing. His anger and frustration were growing with every passing minute.

"Let's see how you do with this!" He shouted down.

He contined to strafe around while unleashing a flurry of ki attacks all aimed at different parts of his body. The area around the titanous being glowed with Strega's energy. The light was such that it completely blocked him from view. Strega stopped his attack and waited for the gratifying explosion of energy thy would meet come.

He watched as the light began to dim and the body of Ja'rel came into view once more. He saw that e had managed to impact him all over his body but apparently his mouth was both the only way to absorb energy. Each orb of light was slowly sucked into the monstrosity, each disappearing completely. He could tell that it was my a good situation. The creature had the ability to absorb ki attacks and launch them back at the initial user, an Strega had used a lot of energy.

A blinding light formed in the spirit beast's mouth as he drew his head back. Strega prepared himself to maneuver so that he wouldn't take the brunt of the force. The giant's head snapped forward and a massive beam of energy spewed forth directly towards Strega position.

He put on a much speed as he could, disappearing from sight for an instant and reappearing inside the monsters reach. He peppered its body with punches and kicks, knowing that there was no use to trying more ki attacks. He was going to have to try to find another way to beat the beast.

Strega wailed away at the body of his opponent for what seemed like hours to no avail. No matter where or what kind of stoke he landed nothing would work. He was starting to lose his steam and he feared that he wouldn't be able to keep it up much longer. Soon enough his fatigue would he the best of him and he would be decimated.

Strega could feel he was starting to slow and he missed his chance to dodge another strike. A massive arm clipped him out of midair and he was sent sprawling across the ground. His head spun and he was aware of a high pitched ringing. He shook his head to try and clear his awareness and saw the massive creature lumbering toward him. He was unable to move, the hit must have disconnected him from the astral realm momentarily.

The hulk of spirit was almost on top of him. He could tell that the next strike would be the last e could take and that would be it. The creatures arms began to glow with energy as they were lifted above his head. He brought them down towards the saiyan in an attempt to crush him. They were within inches of his body when Strega felt his movement return. He put on speed and slid out just as the limbs impacted the ground and the area was engulfed in ki.

Strega looked back to see that his opponent was now in pursuit. He wished that size would have slowed down the Kanassan but once again his speed was quite impressive. The gap where the two of them was slowly closing and there was nothing he could do about it. He spotted a ruin nearby and knew not was his only chance. He changed course and shot towards it.

By the time he reached the ruins the beast was within a few feet of him. He shot through the door which the other was forced to crouch slightly, but still maintained speed. The close quarters at least gave Strega a small advantage since he could maneuver easier. He rounded corners and shot through gaps as fast as they came up.

The ruin was a maze of hallways and chambers that seemed to go on forever. Strega did his best to to keep track of where he was going, afraid that he might become trapped inside of his own ploy. He came around another corner and herd a growl of anger as the beast swing its arm at him. Ja'hiem apparently had found a short cut and cut him off.

Strega dodged underneath the limb and shot into an antechamber behind it. He stopped short when
he saw that it was a dead end. Strega wheeled around to face his enemy and make his final stand. He shot a quick mesposo hoping that it might catch him off guard. The beam was swallowed and shot back, forcing Strega to deflect it.

He got an idea that he figured might work out. He charged towards the spirit monster with as much speed as he had left. The beast roared in anger at him and Strega changed his direction. He entered the massive maw as it snapped down around him. He felt his spirit begin to be drawn from and dissolved. He mustered up his energy and pushed it outwardly in a nuclear shockwave.

His idea payed off. He felt the strength of the Kanassan falter and start to die away. He had blown the other away from the inside. It was so unexpected that he saw the alien trying to pull himself back together but as it seemed he might pull back from the attack the spirit withered away and disappeared.

Strega watched as Ja'hiem's spirit returned to the real world, leaving him alone in the astral realm. He stood for a moment and stared at the place where his opponent had fallen. He smiled to himself, knowing that he had come a long way since his training first began.

At this rate he would be able to combat the demons that had plagued him. His heart lightened at the idea. His power was growing and he hoped for a chance to use it on the ones that had become his mortal enemies. He was excited to further his training.

He allowed himself to let go of the astral plane and slowly return to the living world. He felt air fill his lungs again as his chest expanded and contracted with it. He felt the warmth of the sun beaming down on his face. His fingers and toes tingled as if he had been laying on them for a long period of time. He rolled his neck, making his vertebrae pop and crack.

When he opened his eyes again he was staring the face of the Kanassan student. He was obviously not happy hat he had been, but the most obvious thing was that he was shocked.

"Very good," said Je'vai "few have been able to best Ja'hiem. You have passed the second trial.

Strega breathed a heavy sigh and let himself relax again.

"There is but one more trial that you must face before I yeah you my technique. But the time is not yet come for that. You must rest yourself for now. Tomorrow we shall see how you are. Being on the astral plane takes much from you that you must be careful about. If you stretch yourself too thin you can do serious harm to your spirit that can be impossible to ever truly recover from."

The old master walked towards Ja'hiem.

"Why have you learned from this encounter Strega? Why do you think that I chose Ja'hiem as your opponent?"

The Saiyan thought for a moment before giving his answer.

"Because he is a talented spirit walker, and his strength is unlike any I have seen."

"Yes, this is true but why else do you think?"

Strega looked his opponent over, trying to decipher if there was some hidden meaning behind the master's words. As he met the others eyes he thought he figured it out.

"Because of his strength. You wanted to show me that in the astral realm physical size has nothing to do with it. Brother Ja'hiem is not a physically imposing person in our world but in the spirit realm he is a towering monster. You wanted to show me that I shouldn't judge a book by its cover. If I took a person appearance as a measure of their strength I might underestimate someone and end up in a bad situation. There are many different kinds of warriors in the universe and if I were to judge each and everyone of them by appearance alone than I would not be wise."

Strega thought for a moment and then continued on.

"Also, not only are there warriors but those that might pose a threat to me. Whether it be someone that wishes me harm or to divine information from my mind. I must be on constant alert. It could be someone like yourself that is advanced in age and seems non threatening, or someone trying to pull the wool over my eyes by feigning good intentions. I must always defend my mind and be prepared to face a power unlike one I have never seen before."

"Very good. I am glad to see that you are learning more than just how to manipulate your mind in your training. If you were not than I am afraid I would have chosen poorly in a student. For now, you should rest. Tomorrow we attempt the next phase of your training and see just how much you have learned. It will be a test of everything that you have learned up to this point and will require all of your skills and focus."

"Yes master. I shall return to my quarters so that I might rest, I am feeling fatigued from today's test."

Strega returned to his quarters as he said. He took a deep breath and started a fire as he had been taught to. He had already gathered the necessary herbs required to make the brew that he had been taught.

The viscous liquid felt good on his throat, coating it in the warm soothing embrace. He made his way over to the bedroll that had been provided for him. It was not the most comfortable way to sleep but it was certainly better than nothing. At this point he was so exhausted that he was certain he could sleep on nails. \He laid down on the beaten bedding, feeling it offer him some cushioning. He slowed his breathing and looked up at the ceiling. It seemed as if he had been here for such a long time now. Truly he had been there for years now but most of it he was trapped. The thought of it still gave him the chills.

He hated that he had been so foolish to fall for his enemies ploys. He had never felt so weak and helpless than when he had been suspended in time. He swore that he would never let that happen again. He would not allow himself to be a victim. He would take the warriors path and fight until there was nothing left in him. He would rather die than feel that way again.

He knew that the next test offered to him by Ja'vei was going to require all of his skills. He needed to rest but he couldn't stop his mind from racing. He would prove to Ja'vei that he was a worthy student. He would be the best student that she had ever taught. He was determined to completely blow the test out of the water.

He wondered what it could be that the master would say it was such a challenge. He had thought that facing Ja'hiem was hard enough, so for this to be worse it must be frightening indeed.Perhaps he would have to face a monster far worse than whatever it was that Ja'hiem could summon up.

A test that would truly test him would be for him to have to face his own demons. Those were the scariest things he could think of. But he knew that he had already been forced to face something very near to that task so he doubted that it would be anything along those lines.

Since he had crossed out all other options there was only one possibility. He was going to have to face the master herself. He wondered what it was she looked like when she was in combat on the astral plane.

Immediately he got the image of a terrifying dragon that blotted out all vision. A million other possibilities flowed through his mind but he could feel the concoction he had brewed taking affect. His eyelids grew heavy and he was starting to drift off. Soon enough he found himself sinking into a deep slumber.
