The Dragon of Valhalla
|
Strega laid leaning up against a tree in the midst of the Forest of Illusion. It was the place that he now liked to come in order to calm his mind and gather his thoughts. His attention was stolen for a short while by a small squirrel attempting to gain access to a tree that was apparently home to a rather angry bird and her chicks. The squirrel ran to and fro, trying to find a way to get up onto the branch he sought. Every time that it seemed he would be successful the bird swooped down and pecked him on the head. It was comical, to see that even the smallest creatures in the universe had their battles to fight. Strega thought back to his most recent encounter on the Astral Plane. Thoughts of giant ravenous wolves filled his thoughts and he still wondered what had been real and what had not been. Ja'rel had explained to him that she saw what was in his mind when she had attempted to calm him. The fangori had attached themselves to his thoughts and had been the cause of his most recent nightmares. That attachment meant that they were able to attack other minds that would touch his and as such part of them came at Ja'rel. The next part he still was not entirely clear on. She had said that she used them as a method to train him and see if he was truly ready to learn her power. But she had also told him that her reasoning for being the child he had seen within his mind was to protect herself from the beasts. She had gone on to say that she was entirely in control and that the beasts were a figment of her creation even though they did truly exist. But even so what he saw was very much a true encounter with them. All of this had just caused his head to spin and he still had no idea exactly what had transpired within the plane but he was aware that there was a way to shield your mind from another by making it compartmental. Ja'rel had allowed the Fangori to see only what she wanted them to so that they wouldnt be able to control her or use what she knew of Strega against him. It was this which made him almost certain that she was with holding something from him. Though he couldn't be sure what it was. He let out a loud sigh, trying to calm himself down. He became aware of another presence making its way toward him. He had learned by now to always be alert and sweeping the area with his mind, just enough so that the others wouldnt be aware he was even doing it. Couple that with his ability to sense others power levels and he was like a wild animal, scenting its prey. Strega stood and turned towards the direction of the newcomers, recognizing the signatures. It was Ja'rel, but master a'vei followed close behind. He could sense that they had come to give him news. They were unsurprised to find him waiting when they arrived. "Greetings Strega, it has been some time since we last met." Master Ja'vei began. "Greetings Master Ja'vei, indeed it has been some time. It is a pleasure to see you once more." The two bowed to each other in a show of respect. "Strega," Ja'rel spoke "you have reached a crossroads in your training. There is not much more that I can teach you at this point that would benefit you. Although I have received training in that which you must next learn, there are otehrs that are much more suited to teach it to you." Ja'rel gestured towards Ja'vei. "Master Ja'vei is our most accomplished telekinetic. He has spent his life devoted to the art and his mastery is unparalleled in our order. So it has been decided that you shall go to train with him next. Now that you have mastered the art of the mind, and the other realm you must learn the art of the physical. You will train with him until he believes that you are ready to receive his mark." Strega looked between the two. He bowed first to Ja'rel, then to Ja'vei. "As you wish master, it has been a great honor to learn your ways. Master Ja'vei I am your dedicated pupil. It will be an honor to learn that which you offer." The two smiled. "Well then, please follow me Strega." Ja'vei spoke. The Kanassan made his way from the forest and back towards the main complex of the order. They walked for some time before reaching the main courtyard. Ja'vei lead him into the main hub of the ruins and down hallway after hallway before finally stopping in front of an ancient wooden door. "This shall be your new lodgings while you train with me Strega. Please make yourself at home." The older male opened the door and gestured into the room. Strega entered as he was told and took a look around. It was obviously a room that had been there since the temple was built. He could not tell just how deep inside they were since he had been led down such a maze but he imagined it was quite some distance. The room was sparsely furnished. An old wooden table sat to the right near a hearth. Two chairs sat pushed in underneath the table. Over top of the fireplace a similar pot to the one he had been using before sat, the lid was starting to lift as the meal inside bubbled over. To his left was an old bed frame that looked well used. It had a thin sheet and a meager pillow, still slightly better than the bedroll he had been using. Other than that there was not much else. A single candle, half melted, sat on the the table offering little light. The fire gave most of the light in the room although Strega could see that high overhead a small slit was built to allow sunlight to drift in. It was a small room, roughly ten foot by ten foot. Just enough to live in. Ja'vei began to tend to the food in the pot. Strega could smell the savory blend easily as it filled the small, unventilated room. The master ladled some of the meal into bowls and placed them on the table. He gestured for Strega to sit and he did so. "Well I figured that before we began we could have something to eat. Please help yourself." Now that Strega thought about it he had to admit he was famished. He reached for his spoon but immediately felt a swift, hard strike across his knuckles. He looked up at the master. "Oh, I forgot to mention. So long as you are under my tutelage you shall use only your mind to lift and move object so long as it can be helped. Now please, help yourself." Strega nodded and concentrated on the spoon. It began to wobble and eventually lifted off the table. It took some work but he managed to get it into the stew and lift it up to his mouth. He managed to get most of it in his mouth but much of it also wound up on the floor or his lap. He couldn't help but feel that the master was getting some enjoyment out of watching him. Since he had been limited in his use of telekinesis he had become a little rusty. After some time he finally scraped the last bit out of the bowl and get it into his mouth. It had taken some patience but he was no longer hungry. "Very Good!" The master said. "Now, I must be going. I hope that you enjoy your new arrangements. I shall return in the morning." Strega stood to accompany the master out. He bowed again and smiled. "Thank you again master. I look forward to your return in the morning." Ja'vei smiled. "Oh yes I almost forgot." Strega suddenly felt himself be forced back against the wall. One by a one a pile of block that had previously gone unnoticed to him started to stack around him. In moments he was in a sarcophagus of stone. "Strega, this is your first test. You must escape your prison using only your mind. If you try and cheat I will know and you will fail my training for eternity. I will see you in the morning. Good luck!" ------------------------------------------------------- WC: 1414 TWC: 1414/1800 |

Strega immediately began to panic. It felt as if the walls were closing in on him. His breath came in shallow rasps and he thought he was going to suffocate. His first reaction was to hold his breath. He tried to get a hold of himself. He took slower breaths and realized that he could still see. There were gaps in the done that allowed the light from the window in. That meant he did not have to worry about running out of air. Everything was okay and he just needed to stay calm. He felt silly now that he thought about it. Of course the master would not put him in danger like that. There would always be a preparation or the worst case. So for now he had to focus on his escape. He looked around, trying to get a feel for the way his coffin was built. He was surrounded on all sides and each block seemed to support another but in a way that didn't follow conventional thinking. Strega used his mind to push on a rock to his upper right and once it was removed the whole structure shifted in towards him. His heart jumped, waiting for a full collapse. But sure enough it held. He knew that he could not make too many more mistakes like that. He would have to move every block just as it was assembled. He was sure his life wasn't in danger but that dust mean it might not hurt. Each of the blocks weighed quite a bit and that meant they had potential to maim. Strega focused again and he touched each rock with his mind. He tried to feel which had the most weight being played upon it. Before long he found the keystone. He made sure to avoid that or any around it. He removed each side of the structure brick by brick. He made sure to leave the corners and supporting structures. He could tell that the process was taking hours but he could tell he was making progress. After a while he found himself standing inside a skeletal structure, much like an archway. He carefully stepped out of the area and slowly rebuilt the coffin once more, leaving himself on the outside. Once he was finished he looked at the finished product with a smile. He had accomplished his task. He turned and went over to the bed he let gravity do its work and fell asleep before his head hit the pillow. --------- WC: 420 TWC: 1834/1800 QUEST COMPLETE!! |
