Strega shot up from yet another nightmare, as he always did. He was used to it by now, the cold sweat and racing heart. He always felt as if he was being watched from somewhere. He was uncertain if it was in his head or not but he knew that there was not anythingbhexould truly do about it. Instead he just learned to deal with it, to calm his nerves as best he could.

He looked around the small, dark room. The only light that filtered in was from te moonlight coming through the small slit high above. The thin sheet covering him had soaked through with sweat long ago. The air had become chilled after the fire had been extinguished many hours earlier.

The logs within the fire place rearrange under Strega mental guidance. Two small stones lifted off the ground after words and struck together, sending a spark flying towards the kindling. It started slowly but eventually the fire kicked up and cast its warm light over the room again.

The sheet lifted off of his body and over in front of the fire so thy it could dry off. A laundry line was strung up for just this reason, along with drying any clothes that he washed. Everything about the room moved at once, shifting and rearranging and moving so that they were ready for use.

He thought back that he never would have had the ability to move so many things with such precision on a few weeks earlier. Master Ja'vei truly did have a way of bringing out the potential within his students. He often gave Strega praise saying that he had been one of his most astute disciples, but Strega was convince it was the masters amazing skill and prowess that allowed him to learn so quickly. Hadn't not been for his mentoring Strega would have hit a wall in regards to his telekinesis long ago.

The master truly was a shining example f what it meant to be a telepath. Just afrw days prior during his trial he had witnessed the massive Goliath of a beast that the master ha created out of pieces of stone. Not only that but the ability to create an army of them to do his will was beyond impressive. Strega truly wondered just how scary it might be to face Ja'vei in full on combat with no holding back. A shiver shot down his spine at the thought of it.

Strega dismisses the thought, there was no rational reason the he would ever be put in that position. Unless the Saiyans went to war. He had not even thought about his connection to the military for some time now. He wondere if he was thought dead, or of he would be in any trouble for going AWOL, perhaps they had no idea or care that he was gone. He had alway been a trivial piece in the big picture. He was a nobody and he had already defied the Saiyans before.

He wondered if he would ever ascend to the rank of elite. But he was unsure if he would ever even return to the planet. He wondere what Tamesis has accomplished against him in his time away. Perhaps he was an enemy of the state, ordered to be killed on sight.

He decided not to worry about it. For now his only concern was his training under the Kanassans. He would accomplish his mission here and then worry about the future later. For now be would worry about today. So he stood from hi bed an made his way to a training chamber deeper inside the temple.

He had decided that using the temples massive chambers would suit him beat at this point. They would offer him the most in the way of protection and also options on ways to use his powers and refine them. So he made his way down the the depth of the temple, wondering what the rest of the day would hold

Strega soon found himself back in the corridor he had come down with Ja'vei before his last trial. It was long and wide, dotted with a massive door roughly every fifty yards. Each door was shaped just a little differently than the next but each of them stood around fifty feet in height.

He took slow, deliberate steps down the hall. Trying to decide which door to take. He had some knowledge of the layouts but had never truly seen the indoors, it was as if he read something in a book and wa just now seeing it for the first time, so he wanted to see what each room had to offer.

After looking in a few rooms he found one he believed would suffice bit was like the one he had last tested in, large and open, but there were statues of different aliens in prayer branching out in circular rows. The center of the room had collapsed at some point and a large chasm dominated much of the room. On the other side there were several stone pillars.

He walked into the room and sat nearby the edge of the gap, far enough back there was no risk of it collapsing beneath him. Slowly some of the statues behind him started to lift off the ground. Four of them transferred across the chasm and he set them at various points, some atop pillars others on the ground.

Once he felt that they were good enough Strega let them lie where they were. Meanwhile the statues that remained on his side hovered several feet off the ground. He focused on each one of them, feeling their placement in the void. He slowly put one hand forward and a statue rocketed forward, shattering against the wall.

He turned his attention to the targets he had set up now. Each of which was se in a specific location and height. The first was crushed underneath a mountain of statues. The next one was dismantled piece by piece, first the head than the arms and eventually the body. By now he was running low on statues and he got an idea for the final target.

A great rumbling filled the air as each of the statues behind him started to crumble in on themselves. They splintered and cracked into a million pieces. Each piece remained in the air though, just floating as if weightless. Then they all propelled forward, like a swarm of angry bees. They peppered the final statue, putting holes all the way through the stone.

When the barrage was finished the statue still stood, although much was missing. As if in slow motion it started to crumble, each piece turning into thousands. Strega watched as the work of art turned to dust. He watched until he heard the sound of clapping behind him. Strega whirled around to see master Ja'vei standing at the entrance, giving him a slow gold clap.

"Bravo, I see that you are most definitely improving. I'm impressed."

"Thank you master." He replied.

"You have shown some rear promise that I have seen only from a select few Strega. I believe that you truly have a capacity for this art."

"I'm honored that you would say so."

"Along the subject of that, I also believe that you have reached a point where I can offer little more to you."

"Master, what are you talking about?"

"I'm talking about you no longer being my student."

"Please master, reconsider. There is more that I...." He tried to say before the alien cut in.

"You will no longer be my student because I believe you are ready to face the final trial."

Strega stopped short, staring at the man in disbelief.

"You mean?"

"Yes Strega, I have already arranged it. If you would follow me please."

With that the old man turned and entered the massive corridor again. Strega followed quickly behind as they headed towards a dead end. He did not question it until they stood before what appeared to be a solid stone wall.

"Master, are you alright?"

"Listen!" The old one cut in.

Strega did as he was told and he realized he could hear a draft.

"Feel with your mind. What do you see?"

Strega probed the area and discovered that behind the wall was an empty chasm.

"There is something back there!"

"Indeed there is. This I a secret chamber reserved for the elite of our order. You are to enter a face the challenge within."

The wall suddenly pushed forwards and opened to a large hallway.

"I cannot accompany you any further. This task you face alone. Go and prove yourself worthy. Oh, and be careful."

Strega nodded before bowing to his teacher and entering the corridor. A he did so the wall behind him slammed shut.

The wall behind him sealed again with a resounding boom. He didn't bother to check and see if it would open up again, he knew that he wa in here until he either passed or failed. There was no turning back and he doubted there was a second chance at this test. It was pass or fail and he didn't want to find out what failure meant.

He looked ahead of himsel and he saw a long corridor that was poorly lit. Everything was cast in shadow, letting him know that ahead there would be a lot more light. For now though he would have to deal with the enclosed cramped tunnel which was around seven feet on all directions.

He took slow steps forward. He had the feeling that at any time something Ed going to pop out at him and he was sure to be ready for it. He would not fail this test. He expande his mind, searching for a trap at any given moment. He made it around face feet in when he felt the familiar sense I danger.

He jumped back quickly, and two pillars of stone had slid out and slammed together where he had stood just a moment before. They clashed with such force that it threw dust and debris outward with another loud crunching noise. He did a quick check of himself and said a short prayer that he was still alive.

He pressed on, knowing the peril would only increase with time and distance. He was more careful now, expecting a similar attack to occur. He did not have to wait long though. He felt a rock above him slide and dove forward, rolling out I the way. Another pillar ha dropped as slammed the ground.

A soon as he rolled he felt himself lift off the ground a another pillar raised him. He twisted to his left and started a sprint for the other end of the tunnel. Pillar after pillar slammed up ad down and sideways. They came from every direction and at random intervals.

He manaed to dodge each one, sometimes having to fight its momentum with his own powers. Eventually he found himself near the end of the tunnel. He could feel a big surge of power and there was no avoiding it. He reacted quickly as threw his mental wall out all around him.

Just as he did the entire tunnel squeezed in on him from all directions. He felt their pressure as it tried to break through his defenses. The stone had stopped mere inches away from his body and he was frozen in place. He searches for a source and centrally was able to lock into another mind. He slipped in unknown and broke his mental connection. The stones retreated back to the wall and Strega was freed.

Strega dusted himself off with quick strokes of his hands over the cloth of his pants and shirt. A cloud of dust issued forth, tickling his nose and threatening a sneeze. He shook his head and cleared his nose before turning around to look at the tunnel he had just come from.

"Well, that's one part down. I wonder what other tricks might lay ahead." He said to no one.

He looked ahead of him and noticed that this section of the course was open, but he stood on a suspended bridge that seemed to float of its own volition. The ground seemed thin and brittle, as if it might give out at any moment. He took a shaky step forward and heard the ground crunch underfoot.

"If you fly, you fail." A voice said in his head.

"Right." He said out loud. "That's reassuring."

He took another step out so that he was entirely on the flaky ground. As soon as he went to take another step he heard a snap and watched as a large crack grew out from his feet all the way to both edges. In an instant the floor have out and he was falling. It took everything in him not to fly.

He could see below him was nothing but flowing magma it was so got that even at such a distance it was beginning to burn him. It took him a moment but he finally thought of a solution. He willed the cracked stone around him to reform into a square big enough for him to keep his footing. As soon as it formed he felt his descent stop. He concentrated and made the platform move up and forwards, back on track with his course.

He reached the level of the rest of the pathway and floated above it on his flying platform. He saw that the next area was much more sturdy and offered better footing so he headed toward it. Once he was close enough he glided down, the platform disintegrating around him as his feet touched solid ground again.

He looked ahead at the next path and saw that it was narrow and straight. It lead to a final platform that appeared big enough to hold a our many of sorts. He looked either direction, trying to find the next challenge. He saw nothing but darkness but by now he was certain that there was someone behind all of this and he had a feeling it would only get worse as time went on. Never the less he needed to press on if he planned to pass this test and the longer it went on the more worried he was that failure meant death.

The path started out roughly right feet across but as it went on it tapered dramatically. The majority of the path ahead was only around two feet wide. He tried to divine what exactly lay in wait for him but there was no hint of danger or what hidden obstacle threatened to make an attempt on his life next. The stone here was sturdy and had no evidence it would collapse or fall in any way. It sat atop a great bit of rock that jutted up out from the magma below.

Aside from the dull reddish orange glow there was no light to speak of. Darkness claimed much of the room, or cavern as it seemed to be. He could feel that there was a roof and walls on all sides. It didn't matter though because flight was forbidden during this task.

Once he realized there was no way to find out his next challenge without facing, he took a careful step forward. He winced for a moment, expecting some attack, but there was nothing. He continued his forward movement while making sure to stay alert for any danger. He do not experience any and by the time he reached the narrow segment he wondered if there was a third challenge.

Almost as if in response to his though he picked up the sound of something metallic to his left. He rolled forward without thinking. As he did a large metal ring flew through the spot he been not a moment earlier. It glimmered in the red light and cast strange shadows. It was obviously sharp, because Strega could see a bit of his hair lying on the ground.

He felt the back of his head an felt where he had been shaved. Apparently it was closer than he had thought. He didn't have to long to mourn his haircut because soon enough the blade returned and forced him to dive yet again. As soon as the one passed another came flying up from a different direction. He dove and ducked and dodged. Every time it seemed he was that much closer to death.

He tried to sense out the user but with so many blades coming at him he was unable to focus on anything else for more than a few seconds. It was taking all of his agility and focus to dodge them all. He estimated that there were at least twenty or so at this point. He tried to think. He couldn't get to the user so he knew there had to be another way out of his conundrum. He looked around and noticed that much of the rock and dirt underneath and around the next platform was loose.

He focused his energy on the loose earth as he continue his dance around and under and over the blades. At the right moment it all flew to him and he crafted two wall of earth and stone on either side of the pathway. As soon as they were up he heard several thunks as the blades impacted his walls and stuck. It was not long before they found a way around and over the walls. There were still four blades that had not been captured. They rocketed down into the trench he had made and towards him.

The walls he had created pitched inward quickly. They collapsed in on the path, smothering the blades and stopping their motion. Strega stood in the midst of a pile of debris and metal. He move quickly, jumping up and over so that e could finish his path. He quickly found himself on the downslope, the final platform only a few feet away.

When Strega reached the final platform he got a bad feeling that his test was not over yet. He stepped out carefully, wary of any incoming projectiles or traps that might be launched. He couldn't sense anything that was threatening him immediately, but he still had the feeling as if he was being watched. He looked around for the source of the feeling and shortly it appeared before him.

Three figures glided up and over the edge of the platform before coming Rostand in front of him on the far side. By their looks they were all Kanassan and he coul feel that they were ancient, even more so than Ja'vei or Ja'rel. Most interior features were obscured by the robes they wore. The hoods of the cloak pulled up and over, covering their faces in shadow. The only real feature that Stregavould see was their scaly hands. They stood with their heads bowed and when they spoke they spoke as one being.

"Greetings Strega, we have been waiting for you. Your masters have spoken night of you. They say that you exceed expectations on every level. They must truly hold you in high regards, else wise you would not be standing before us. The fact that you have made it this far through the gauntlet only further justifies their reasoning." Came the chorus of voices.

It was unnerving to hear them talk all at once. It was one voice made of three and he couldn't distinguish which came from whom.

"It's unfortunate though that your journey should end here. There have been very few that have been strong enough to compete with our power. Especially one who has progressed through his training so far. We are sorry but you now shall perish."

Strega didn't like the way that last part sounded.

"The hell I do!" He yelled.

The priests did not speak to him again. Instead their poly-voice began a strange chant.

"Pagua sonfa, pagua sonfa, pagua sonfa."

As they chanted Strega could see that the bible behind him was beginning the shift and sort itself. The blades that he had managed to bury were coming to the surface. He tried to interject his own mind in but he only got a stone wall. No matter how much he tried he could tell it was futile. Somehow the three of them truly were as one, omnipotent mind. There was no working his way around them.

As he attempted I gain access to their minds the blades once more started to fly around the room. He was forced once more to begin dodging and diving around them, although his time was only once per blade. He watched as the circles stacked together and more came flying from all directions. In a minute he was staring at a monstrous serpent of blades. It's head was complete with a mouth full of razor sharp scythes for teeth.

Strega couldn't think of anything to do other than evade. It writhed and slithered exactly as an organic snake, although a thousand times more dangerous. Of the creature so much as touched him he was screwed. He dove from side to side as it snapped at him, trying to devour him. As he dodged, a nearby boulder lifted up and hurled towards the serpent.

Upon impact the stone shredded to pieces. Strega knew that he couldn't keep up the cat and mouse routine. He needed to do something to stop the monster after him but conventional warfare was useless. He rolled out of the way as the spiraling blades of the tail tore into the earth where he had just been. He was out of steam, he couldn't run any longer. His roll took him as close to the edge as possible, his face looking down into the flowing magma below.

Strega knew what he had to do. He rolled on to his back just as the serpent reared back in preparation to deliver it's finally blow. It's vicious maw opened and it snapped forward. As soon as it did it was stopped short. A gout of lava impacted it directly in the face, sending it sprawling back.

Strega got back to his feet. He stood with a new confidence, a wide smile on his face. A loud thumping sounded from behind him. A massive hand of lava grasped the edge I the platform, then another. Slowly a behemoth of glowing red and black lifted itself into the platform. Strega stood between its legs, feeling the heat pour off of it.

The metal snake was up again and it creaked with a metallic hiss. Strega could feel that the priests were nervous, there resolve was shaken. Still the beast came at him again. It was met with a pulverizing right cross from Strega's behemoth. It slid across the ground from he impact. Like a flash it lifted again and attacked. It snapped forward but Strega reacted again and again. With every hit the eat from the lava golem fused the metal together.

With one final attempt the snake wrapped itself around the golden and squeezed, trying to cut it apart. Strega laughed and his creation joined him. It grasped the metal contraption with its arms and squeeze back. With a grind and a screen he molded the snake into a lump of steel. It tried to move again but nothing happened.

The priests stood still for a moment before looking towards Strega again.

"We concede. You have bested us. Congratulations."
