The massive wall of the lower level temple that had served as an entry way to the final testing ground slide back into place behind Strega. He stood for a moment and ran through the whole thing in his mind. He was quite pleased with himself as the way things had gone. There were a myriad of things that could have gone wrong and he would have lost his life, yet here he stood.

He knew that he would have to give much of the credit to his masters for pushing him as they had. Without them he would not have had the knowledge or the strength of mind to pass the trial. Since his time with the order began he felt as if his mind was one hundred percent clearer. He processed things at a much higher rate and was able to see things from different angles. He knew that his mental processing abilities were only increasing.

He had grown so much stronger in the span of only a few months and his progress seemed unreal. It was as if he had opened up a new door in the ways of his training. Perhaps it was the fact that he had been suspended so long his body was eager to make up for lost time. Or then again it could just be that he felt as if he had a new sense of purpose, something to drive him to grow stronger and prevent himself from ever becoming a victim as he had.

He knew that there were still things that he had to learn. Things that would help him in his journey, and things that would make him stronger as a whole. He had learned much from the Kanassan people and he sensed that there were still a few things that they had to show him. He could never be certain but he planned to find out.

He made his way back through the corridors and up to his room. He planned to seek out Ja'vei and let him know that he had succeeded in the task. When he arrived in his lodging he found that Ja'vei was nowhere to be found. His room was empty and there was no notice left for him.

He decided to search the temple in hopes that he might eventually run into the master. He reached out with his mind as he searched so that he might be able to find him faster. He wandered every corridor and chamber, yet still he found no sign of him. It was highly unusual for the master to disappear an Strega worried about what it might mean.

He decided that he was most likely just being paranoid and that perhaps the master had gone for a stroll. Another possibility was that he was already aware that he had passed the trial an was already working with a new student. He knew the latter was less likely, seeing a how Ja'vei rarely trained anyone, so the idea that he might have another new student already was highly unlikely.

Strega pushes his worry aside and decided that he would return to his room. He had been training so had lately he was interested in getting something to eat and getting some rest. The trial had taken quite a bit out of him and he could feel the fatigue taking its toll on him. It was strange I think that he had passed the trials of his current master, perhaps tomorrow he would be distributed to yet another master that would teach him another technique. Only one would tell.

As soon as he entered his room the pot started to move and the utensils went to work. Using only his mind he started sliced and dicing ingredients. Junking meat and plopping it into the seasoned water. It was a simple meal but it filled him well enough. He cleaned his plate and emptied the pot.

Once he was finished cleaning up he wet to the bed which had been provided and laid down. He could already feel the drowsiness washing over him. His test had taken more than he originally assumed. It did not take long before he was off to sleep again.

Strega found himself once again mired in the cover of sleep. This time though it was not the same as usual. He had become accustomed to immediately being welcomed by the horrors of supressed memories and threatening visions. If not that, than he was usually visited by some sort of menacing demon that promised to come and kill him in the future.

This time though he stood on a white sand beach. The sun was high in the cloudless blue sky and beaming down on him, coating him in its warm embrace. An ocean of blue rolled in and out at a lazy meter. He could hear the cry of an indigenous gull, looking for its afternoon snack. The setting was rather peaceful and he started to think that he might for once be having a good dream.

The thought started to fade though when he saw a dark cloud rolling in on the horizon. The cloud gathered in a strange way, streaks of red lightning cutting across it at random. There was something menacing about the cloud, and the way that it seemed to be coming from another place rather than gathering like a normal cloud only added to the feeling of dread.

Strega looked around and he saw a small shack off to his right with big letters across the side of it. Kame's House. Strange, he thought he had heard someone mention a place like that once before. The storm cloud continued to slide towards him at an unnatural pace. A strong wind picked up, blowing toward the storm rather than away. In a few more moments the sun was blotted out entirely by the massive black thing.

As Strega watched he began to realize what it was that was coming at him. It was no storm cloud but it was a ship, it was similar to a saiyan warship but there was no way to tell entirely. It was made of shadow, as if still undecided as to what it should be. The ship gathered overhead and eventually a few pieces of the darkness peeled off and fell to the ground below him.

The blobs of shadow took on a humanoid shape and stalked towards him. He could tell that whatever these things were they did not mean well. One raised its hand towards the Kame House and a dark red blast issued forth, completely enveloping the place in flame. For some reason he found himself unable to move, he could do nothing but watch as the shadows continued on a path of destruction.

Eventually droves of people began to appear, all fleeing from something, running towards the ocean. As they ran they must not have realized that the shadows before him were there. Person after person was completely decimated by the creatures. Whatever it was that they were supposed to be representing, Strega did not like them.

He found that he was finally able to move. He launched himself forward to attack, swinging his fists through nothing but shadow. He screamed and he raged until his throat was hoarse. No matter what he tried he could do no harm to them. He unleashed waves of ki to no avail. He tried to bring down the ships but still nothing happened.

He took to the sky and he could see the damage that had been wrought. He wasn't sure how many of these things there were but their potential for destruction was awesome. They were as the plow, and everything else was the earth, unable to do anything but be destroyed.

He flew over city after city and each time he found that there was mass destruction. Innocent men, women, and children were mercilessly decimated. The streets ran red with blood so high it stained the sides of buildings. Nothing was safe from these creatures.

There was nothing but carnage for miles around. Women and children, all slaughtered by the monsters that had appeared. Yet Strega could do nothing, as if he wasn't even there. Maybe that was what it was, whatever this was, it was a warning. He got the feeling that whatever this was it was a possible future. A future that he planned to stop.

"You are powerless."

Strega got up from his sleep at the alert. He scanned the room, expecting to be face to face with some new threat. He checked all over the room and yet found nothing. He could have sworn that the hissing voice he had heard came from someone in the room with him.

When he finally convinced himself that there were no aggressors around he slid out of bed. He cracked his neck and stretched, letting out a sigh as he did so. His hey still burned with rage from his dream. He had felt so powerless, so impotent. He hated the idea of it and he refused to settle for it. He knew that when he had learned all he could on this planet he would set out on a journey to become the strongest he could.

He couldn't shake the feeling that what he had seen was a vision, not a dream. Perhaps his telepathic training was starting to give him prophetic abilities. Whatever the cause was he wasn't taking it likely, even if it was only a dream he wouldn't take the chance that a massacre such as that could ever happen.

He planned to find the planet that he had seen and be there to protect it. He would be there to give his all to prevent an evil such as he had seen from ever occurring. The thought of innocent blood being spilled in such a way made him sick. He needed to go out and get some air to calm himself.

He made his way through the temple and out into the morning sun. He could hear the birds calling from the trees, letting him know all was well. He thought about that fact, how things could seem so serene when there was something much like what he had seen going on somewhere in the galaxy. It was almost act that it was guaranteed to be happening somewhere, it was all statistics. If there was potential for it than it would happen.

He made his way to a clear stream in the forest ad dipped his hands in. He used them as a cup and brought some up to his face. The way the sun hit it made it appear as a mirror, his eyes locking on to his own face. He splashed the water in his face an felt the cool liquid start to abate his anger.

He took deep breaths and tried to bring himself together once more. He closed his eyes and willed the bad thoughts to leave his mind so that he could focus on the light. He didn't need to be worrying about things he could not change, only on what he could.

"You seem troubled young one. Even after all that you have achieved, what is it that could be causing you so much strife?"

The voice came from behind him. He could feel Ja'vei reach out and try to touch his mind. He allowed the master access to his mind so that he could review the nightmare.

"Ah, I see you are still plagued by your inner demons. Although I wondering there might not sill be some outer interference on your thoughts." The Kanassan spoke.

"Master, I can't help but feel that this dream might be a vision of what's to come. Is that even possible?"

The master thought for a moment.

"It's possible, there have been some in the past that became so in tuned with the astral plane that they were able to see possible futures."

"You said possible right?"

"Indeed, nothing is set in stone. Any possible outcome might be change with a simple flap of a butterflies wings."

"Thank you master. I feel as if whatever this is it means that I have to be there."

"I know Strega, it's ok. And by the way, you don't have to call me master anymore."

Strega had almost forgotten that he had just passed his final test. It seemed so small in the grand scheme now.

"Strega, I think that there is someone you should meet. He was a powerful member of our order. Now he resides at another temple deep in the jungles. I believe that you might benefit from seeing him."

"If you believe that, than I shall heed our advice. How do I reach him?"

Ja'vei explained the direction that he would have to travel in order to find his next teacher. He would have to rely mostly on his mental abilities as there would most likely be defenses in place to protect the master from detection by outside dangers.

After packing a few things and thanking the master, Strega set out to find the soothsayer.

Strega walked through the forest, well past the boundaries he normally observed. The forest grew even closer together than usual, making it hard to navigate through much of it. He went at a slow and steady pace, being cautious not to stumble upon some creatures lair, or worse. He constantly proved ahead with his mind, looking for the simplest and safest path.

Ja'vei had warned him that the master he sought was powerful indeed and that he was not likely to let just anyone walk into his territory unchallenged. He was a reclusive individual who would not want to be bothered by just anyone. To reach him was to prove your worth.

So Strega remained vigilant for any kind of trap or ploy that was meant to distract him or throw him off course. He had been told that there was a studen once that was believed worthy to train with the master and had become distracted by one such trap. He ha wandered the forest aimlessly for a year and a day. When he returned his mind was not the same as it once was. Parts of his memory were gone entirely and it had taken months for them to repair the damage.

Strega knew that he couldn't let that happen to him. He followed as close as he could sense to the path to the temple. He was unsure how long it would take him to arrive but he was told it was within a days travel. He would have flown there but to travel over the forest meant that he was more likely to miss it entirely since he would both be further away and moving faster. It would make it easier for the soothsayers shields to protect him.

Eventually Strega started to feel an urge to turn another direction. It started off as a small thought that he was getting lost and not following the proper trail. But he pushed it aside as continued straight, maintaining his focus. The further he pushed in the more his kind started to panic, telling him that he needed to turn back immediately.

He stopped for a moment, the urge to flee overwhelming him. He fought back, knowing in his mind that it wasn't his thought. If he focused he could feel another trying to affect his thinking. He focused on all aside from that voice and after a little while he could feel his panic ebbing. He took a deep breath and pressed on.

The forest was so thick deeper in that only a minuscule amount of light was able to make it through the thick, leafy canopy. What little light did come in had faded and disappeared by the time Strega got any clue that he was close. The sun had set hours prior but he came upon a strange outcropping.

At first he thought that it was just a grassy hill, but the shape was off. It was octagonal and tiered. He made his way over and placed a hand upon it. He could feel hard stone underneath, and when he rubbed his hand across it he was able to pull off a thick layer of moss and lichens.

Underneath was stark white stone with strange etchings all across it. It was similar to the markings on the temple that the order called home. He knew he must be close now, something like this would have to be in close proximity to the temple he was looking for.

Strega continued on cautiously. He probed with his mind, expecting an attack again at any moment, yet he felt none. Suddenly the forest opened up and the ground raised up and formed a mountain. The more that he looked at it Strega realized that the mountain was actually a massive temple that had been overgrown with vegetation.

The size of the ancient dwelling was impressive. It stood just under the height of the most ancient trees. It rose up in a tiered design, each level having access points set off at different intervals. He looked in the sky and realized that w really would have missed the sight from above, the branches of the nearest trees stretched to the edge of the temple and the amount of greenery that covered it would have made him think it was only a hill.

It was obvious that it had been there for many eons. Much of the forest had taken root within its nooks and crannies. It was also evident that it had not been truly inhabited for quite sometime as well. The vegetation on I was so lush and thick that he still was almost certain by now it was mostly natural.

The local wildlife had made themselves at home amongst the ancient place of worship. Squirrels and small game bounded to and fro all over the stairs and tiers. A family of deer stood by, taking a drink of cool water that wa running steadily down the stone walls.

Strega walked around the structure and eventually found what must have been stairs at one point. He could feel another presence close by. He floated to the top of the temple and landed softly. As soon as he landed he saw the form of man sitting in the lotus position. He did not have to ask anything before his question was answered.

"Greetings Strega, I am Ru'ketal."

Strega was shocked when he heard that this creature was he one he had been in search of. He was much younger than he had been expecting, probably no more than late thirties at the most. Strega had grown so accustomed to crusty old fish people being the masters that he almost didn't relive his ears.

"Oh yes, I am not what many people expect. But do you always stare so long at those who train you?"

Strega realized that he had been standing slack jawed in awe, staring at the man that say before him. He immediately closed his mouth and bowed deeply.

"My apologies master Ru'katel. I did not mean to offend." He said ashamed.

He was embarrassed not only thy he had disrespected this one but also that he had left his mind so open that he didn't even realize his thoughts were being read.

"Oh it takes much more than that to offend me. And don't be so worried about your thoughts, that's my specialty."

Strega thought for a moment.

"How did you know who I am?"

The Kanassan laughed, "Oh, you don't think that I was unaware of you coming here were you? I was the one that requested you be sent to find me. I have heard of our training and swift progression through he ladder of the order. I have watched you with great interest. I believe that there is more to you than meets the eye and I asked your former master to sen you to me."

"This was all your idea?"

"Indeed."

"But what if I failed?"

"Than you would not have been the man I asked be sent to me. I had faith that you would make it through the forest and find me here. I could sense you pushing past my defense and beating my traps. There was much o be said for your abilities. That is why I requested to train you. Not to mention I know that you would profit from what I have to teach. Now please, come sit with me."

The alien patted the open ground beside him.

"Let's start your training immediately."

Strega decided to go along with the Kanassans plans. He sat down as he was told and got into a meditative position.

"Now, you have proved your worth by making the trek here. That alone is quite the fet. But I am afraid there is one more thing you must endure before I decide to take you on as my student. I want you to shield your mind as best you can, protect yourself as if your life depended on it. This may hurt."

Strega didn't like the way his last sentence sounded. But he took a deep breath and started to focus his mind. He focused on one thing to the exclusion of all else. He tried to make his mind like a brick wall by focusing on the stone directly in front him. He could hear the master as if he were far away asking of he was ready. Strega slowly nodded and maintained his defense.

In an instant he felt his mind strain as another prescience Attempted entry into his mind. It was unlike anything he had ever felt, strong enough to be a least a dozen separate people. He didn't let that phase him though and he only concentrated harder on keeping up his wall.

It seemed like an eternity that he held against the power yet it ink pushed harder. He knew it could not have been more than a few minutes. He tried to turn the tide by entering the masters mind the way he had been taught. He reached out with a small portion of his mind and when he reached out he got nothing but static.

At this revelation he had a nano second of doubt and in that small window he felt the master succeed in breaching his defenses. His life flashed before his eyes like a fast motion movie. The trauma wa excruciating. Strega did all he could just to remain conscious. He saw all of his secrets and fears flash before his eyes.

Eventually even those started not to make sense to him. He could feel himself slipping. His consciousness was slipping and he wasn't sure of e woul still be the same if it did. And then darkness swallowed everything.
