(edit: human gains) Training with Master Roshi had been an interesting experience. Rigorous, to be sure, but nothing compared to the strictness of his palace education. Back at home, if Herra so much as shifted in his seat he could expect pretty fierce repercussions. Here, it was important to focus, but mainly that was because of the nature of the training. Roshi didn’t care if Herra did his swimming training backwards, just so long as he did it. However, if he did swim backwards, he might be distracted by the chomping jaws of the lake’s shark as it tore through the water after him. “Roshi is completely nuts,” the prince admitted to himself one morning as he awoke to face another day of this sort of “training.” But he put up with it because the old man had proven that Herra had a lot to learn, and because Kirkas had faith in him, somehow. “But Kirkas isn’t here anymore,” he mused. “It’s up to me to make this work.” And so he rolled out of his sheets and prepared for the next task. “Herra, we’re going to do some more practical training today,” the master said when the prince had presented himself. “This is another one of my students. Krillin. He has trained here for a little while, now, and has made some progress. You need to hone your skills in real situations. So today you two will give it all you’ve got. The body never makes progress unless it’s pushed, so give it your all.” “And try to learn from your opponent,” the old man added as he escorted the duo outside. “Hey, you look familiar,” Herra said as they followed their master. “Weren’t you in that weird city with the blackouts with me?” That situation, though unresolved, was definitely unsettling, and this reunion brought back some of those feelings. This might get serious, he thought. “Anyway, my name’s Herra,” he said once they had made it to the spot on the coast where Roshi had led them. “I’ve been enjoying learning here. I’ll try to make it hard on you.” With a smile, the dark haired boy stepped back and fell into a low wide stance and tapped into his inner power that Roshi had been teaching to him about(1). Let’s start this hot! Herra rushed forward, vanishing from sight. Instead of rushing above or behind Krillin, the prince reappeared in mid air in front of him, still moving fast. With an outstretched hand, he reached for the fighter’s bald forehead to pivot and swing behind him before delivering a powerful knee towards the back of the head (2). Hopefully, the double shock of the surprise appearance and the grope would assist this blow in landing. After returning to earth from the knee, the prince leapt backwards in a high arc, trying to put distance between them once more. While in mid air, his eyes flashed red before he let out his trusted Eyebeams (3), set to zap another pair of dots on the monk’s head. ____ Actions 1. Power Up 2. ST + Special Knee 3. [Human Bonus: +5 Exp] Krillin was escorted to the warm sand of Roshi's Island and stared at the small swells that threatened to wet his dry boots. They were dark blue and said to have been made by Saiyans, but he wore them anyway. Getting used to other species that had found their way to Earth was one thing; getting used to training alongside them was a whole other issue for the naive human warrior. He recently learned a life changing lesson in humility and ignorance. It was a lesson that often occupied his thoughts even under circumstances that demanded his attention. He payed little interest in where he was going and what he was being asked to do, which was proof of just how much he was emotionally wounded. He had not been the same since his humiliating actions against the beautiful blonde warrior. She had left him far more emotionally scarred than he suspected he had left her. She had treated him with indifference shortly after the match before disappearing from Roshi's training sessions. Krillin swore that he would do whatever it took to mend what friendship they had developing. Until that day, he would do as much as he could to work on his imperfections and treat everyone equally. As soon as I pull my head out of the sa--- “Hey, you look familiar,” his familiar fellow student said, finally bringing Krillin back to reality. “Weren’t you in that weird city with the blackouts with me?” He vaguely remembered the short-lived adventure in the dark city; what he remembered was the beautiful woman he followed as she gracefully took flight toward it. "Mhm," was all Krillin said in response. He didn't care to engage in much conversation lately unless it had relevance to the current situation. Then his apparent opponent introduced himself as Herra. Krillin had payed little attention to their eccentric master who had set up their match as a test of what each of his students had learned. Every one of his students went through such a test and some had done it quite often. Others that had failed miserably were sent off to do meaningless tasks until Master Roshi was ready to test them again. "I'm Krillin," was all he replied with and finally gave him his full attention. He began to drop his training gear but kept his boots on. There was no need to leave his feet exposed. “I’ve been enjoying learning here. I’ll try to make it hard on you,” Herra said. "Be gentle," Krillin replied but immediately regretted his sarcasm. After assuming a basic fighting stance, Herra's power level increased. It was double Krillin's own maximum power. Impressive... Before Krillin could get the jump on Herra, he vanished. In the blink of an eye, Herra had reappeared and sent the bald warrior into the ground with a forceful blow to the back of his head. It reminded him of the blonde beauty's style of attack, only much, much stronger. His head was pounding and would definitely leave him with an intense migraine and a golfball sized lump after the match. "Ugh," was all that Krillin managed to mutter as he got to his feet. He wasn't sure how fast he had got up or where his opponent was and that worried him. His thoughts were everywhere and his body refused to cooperate for a moment after the world stopped spinning. When he came to his senses, he was assaulted again before he could gather his wits and perform on offensive action of his own. Twin beams struck his forehead and forced him to take a step back. The brightness of the Ki beams stung his eyes for a moment but also seemed to snap him out if his mental 'lunch break'. He closed his eyes tightly and released his hold on his suppressed Ki. His white aura whipped around him violently as if in response to the physical harm he endured. Krillin then put a hand on his forehead and felt a small trickle of blood on his forehead. Had he left his headband on, he might not have been bleeding but what was done was done. He lowered his hand and stared at the speck of blood as his aura raged on. He looked Herra in the eye before smirking and dashing forward while he was still airborne. He cocked back both of his fists and in a mad frenzy, attempted to make Herra spew everything he had eaten for the day with a long, vicious combination of punches toward his lower abdomen, diaphragm and throat. Every punch he threw had all the anger he felt toward himself behind them. He visualized Herra as himself and sent every punch with the message, "You screwed up!" all over it. Once the mad frenzy was over, he took in a deep breath and sent a right hook toward Herra's ribcage followed by a vicious left hook and another right cross. He would have to continue to visualize pounding himself into a pulp in order to defeat his inner demons. Only after letting Herra feel on the outside what he was feeling on the inside, would Krillin be ready for the next phase in learning to cope with his failures. I think I'm doing it wrong.

“Bam!” the prince yelled, thrilled to see his attack land perfectly on that bald head. When he and Roshi had been practicing that move, he was taught that, in actuality, the Valo Gaze was only a mild attack in comparison to many other techniques out there. So, he wasn’t surprised to see a fighter who had trained with the old man be able to stand up to it, even though his more refined ki channeling had made it stronger. His smiled vanished before he hit the ground, though, as Krillin had shot after him with a look of rage that Herra hadn’t expected in a friendly match between co-students, the smirk notwithstanding. Herra dropped his right elbow, holding his forearm and fist up to block the blow he anticipated coming at his abdomen, and tilted his torso to be ready for the next blow (1), but Krillin surprised him. Instead of delivering one solid blow, he shot off eight, rapid-fire punches all down his core. Several hit his arm solidly, a few slid off and pummeled his shoulder and side, and two hit his gut directly. The prince let out a pained cough after the almost instantaneous attack landed. He pulled back both arms into a defense covering his chest and chin and re-centered his position in front of the small man to prevent another repeat attack. Sure enough, Krillin was far from finished, and came at his core again with nearly the same speed as the jabs. Herra was on his guard for another super-beating, however, and he swerved his body out from Krillin’s first hook, reaching out in an attempt to grab his wrist and throw the small man like a hammer toss directly to the ground below them (2). With his opponent hopefully off guard, he flipped in the mid-air to get extra momentum and came down with a stomp to knock the wind out of Krillin’s sails (3). ____ Actions 1. This feels good. It's not supposed to feel this good to be this angry. Krillin's mostly successful assault had worried him. He was in a fight, sure, but he was in a fight right in front of his teacher. In front of his teacher and against a fellow student. He was worried that he might have caved in to a part of himself that he only just found out existed. He had to put a stop to it before something truly bad happened. I'm gonna apologize after th--- He was thrown on his back before he could defend himself. The wind was knocked from his lungs and his back left him feeling like the ground was about to bear hug him. Pain spread from his tailbone to his shoulders. His eyes had shut tight as soon as he violently crashed into the ground and only after feeling a slight change in the wind did he open them. It was just in time as he saw Herra above him with his foot about to collide with his chest. Oh, man... Krillin shifted his weight to his right and almost managed to roll away from the incoming stomp. Instead of his chest being crushed, his left shoulder was stomped into the ground. He let out a loud yell and his eyes nearly popped out of his head. His body jerked and his legs went up as if he was about to roll back. He had been in fights before, but not against someone twice as strong as he was. Karma? He momentarily shook off the pain and continued to roll to his right. When he had sufficient spacing, he got to his feet and willed his right arm not to rub his injured shoulder. He would not show how hurt he was unless he was severely injured. He was hurt but still capable of holding his own against Herra. On his feet, he stole a quick look toward Master Roshi and gave him a wink. The old master seemed not to notice, but that didn't bother Krillin in the least; there was a battle going on between two of his students and only one could be the victor. That'll be me. The bald warrior set his feet and in a mad dash, charged straight at Herra. Instead of continuing his charge straight ahead, he leapt into the air and nosedived toward his opponent. Just as he was within arm's reach of Herra's head, Krillin unleashed a combination of left and right hooks, uppercuts and hammer blows all before he finished his descent. They were all aimed at his ears, eyes, nose and mouth with the intent to break down Herra's ability to mount an effect offense. Once his feet had hit the ground, he planted them and thrusted his open palms forward. Fatigue was slowly setting in but he couldn't afford to slow down. With some effort, he took in a deep breath and focused his Ki into his hands. Light blue orbs of Ki formed in each of his hands and then he let them loose. His arms moved madly as if he were a machine throwing baseballs to a batter in a batting cage. The rhythmic repetition of Ki blasts was almost relieving to feel as they left his hands and for a moment he felt no pain. Every orb was aimed to fully engulf Herra, leaving him no choice but to accept that Krillin was weaker but much smarter than he got credit for. Herra would have to perform miracles to leave the island victorious.

Krillin’s yelp of pain from the foot in his shoulder rippled through Herra’s body like an earthquake. The other fighter still had strength enough to roll away, but the prince was not fooled by the cheerful wink he shot at their master. Then again, he seemed calm enough. No way, Herra thought, That scream was real. How is he just standing there like its nothing? The prince tried to calm his mind down and reach out to gauge his opponent’s energy, but Krillin wasted no time responding. First he was running, but after a moment, the bald fighter was bearing down straight at Herra’s face, diving from the air. Krillin’s short arm length may have been an exploitable weakness for many fighters, but for the young new recruit, they were more or less even. The quick change in direction halted the boy’s plan to dodge, so he simply raised his arms, ready to receive. The first two hits came to each side, both powerful blows that crushed his protecting arms into the sides of his own head (1)—not the first time his arms had received damage today, either. The final was a surprise hammer blow that came down solidly on the panicked fighter’s crown (a). How is he moving so fast? the prince wondered in frustration. Krillin touched down after his assault and pushed out with his hands, again appearing calm, despite the hectic battle scenario. Herra was less graceful. Both his fists and his teeth were clenched after that last attack, and his pride was on the line. “You be gentle!” he yelled, referring the Krillin’s request at the battle’s start. Though both fighters were already feeling pain, they had only gone through two turn-abouts which only lasted a few seconds apiece. In mid sentence, Herra felt Krillin’s energy shift. I’ve felt this before. What was it, again? In answer, Krillin’s hands began to churn and windmill, blurring into blue ki pistons. With each thrust of his arm, an orb of power shot off, machine gun fast, until the air was full of ethereal projectiles. Herra scuttled back from the onslaught like water from oil, but not before several pellets blazed up the beach, engulfing his legs. Crap, Roshi taught me a move for this! What was it? I can’t remember! In desperate self-preservation, Herra began slapping at the ki orbs like ping-pong balls, ricocheting them in every direction he could (2). It wasn’t a perfect solution, but he was fast enough to keep the majority off of him. “Ha! I survived!” he exulted. Energy attacks were still very new to the prince. He usually ran from them. This new development filled him with excitement, even though the sleeves and chest of his shirt were ripped and burning. He raised one smoking hand and pointed at Krillin. “You’re going to have to better than that!” he said between heavy breaths. Realizing that he wasn’t putting up as good of a front as his opponent was, he quickly composed himself before launching back. Nothing was between them but sand, and Herra had already spent all of his good moves. Better just do something, he decided. He ran full tilt at Krillin, reaching back with a fist and yelling. When he hit the strike zone, he instead launched out towards the other fighter’s ankles with both feet far in front (3), hoping to trip him up. ___ Actions 1. Partially block Action 2 a. Survived? Herra's apparent pleasure at 'surviving' a Ki attack perplexed the bald warrior. Weren't they both students of the same teacher and learning the same things? What was truly odd about it was that Herra was physically stronger and faster than Krillin, yet didn't seem have a wide repertoire of offensive skills. It gave Krillin a tactical advantage, but he decided he'd play fair from that moment on and not just blow up their battlegrounds. They were having a friendly battle, not a duel to the death. Krillin took a moment to assess the damage he had taken and catch his breath. His headache was slowly fading, but his shoulder pain lingered as fresh as ever. He refused to rub it during the match but it was very tempting. Only his pride and the presence of his master had kept him from voicing any concerns as to how far they were supposed to take their match. If Krillin's hand was forced and Herra was in fact not up to par on his offensive techniques, then Krillin would likely just unleash volley after volley of Ki until his arms were exhausted and he no longer had the energy to use. Herra called out to Krillin and it made him grin. His determination to be victorious in their match equaled Krillin's own. Without warning, Herra charged forward with a fist. Before Krillin could set his feet and put up his arms defensively, Herra changed direction and violently tripped up the bald warrior. Krillin's face hit the warm sand, creating a short veil between the two warriors. That was embarrassing. Krillin quickly pushed himself up from the sand and summoned his aura. It shed the second skin-like sand from him and gave him a clear view of his opponent. He then bent low at the knees and placed his fists at his sides. His aura whipped up like a violent storm in a concentrated area and forced the sand around him to rise and dance around him as if one with his aura. He shifted his feet and pushed forward with all of his might. In a blur, he vanished and reappeared to Herra's left and sent a vicious kick toward his opponent's knees. It wasn't sent behind him to send him leaning back but instead toward his kneecaps, where he might be forced to fight back with a bit more fire. He was physically superior to Krillin in more ways than one, but he wasn't nearly as well-trained. Still leveled with Herra's knees, Krillin followed through with the momentum and swung his right fist toward Herra's kidneys. His current position was awkward and pretty much had him wrapped around Herra's lower half like a snake. It stretched Krillin out, but it also forced Herra to take a chance and attack a wide open target. His next move determined how far Krillin felt he should take things.

Herra’s legs swept right under Krillin, knocking him to the ground. Of course, Herra was also on the ground, since he had leapt with both legs. He shoved hard with his arms, and fly back up to a standing position. Krillin was up, too, and whipping up a storm in the sand with his ki flow. Impressive The other fighter crouched and shoved off, vanishing from Herra’s sight. The prince braced up, protecting his face, not expecting Krillin from below. He saw the kick only when it was already in motion. He bent both knees to his right to strengthen the joint and move the kick off its trajectory (1). The blow stung but he retained his balance. He did not see the right hook coming to his kidneys, though. Herra arched back in pain and surprise, catching a good look at the other fighter’s exposed position. “I gotcha!” With a quick twist of his knees and torso, he came down hard with a punch set to crack Krillin’s chestnut head (2). Krillin barely deflected the blow to his head. His left forearm came up and felt like a small boulder had smashed into it but he would have to fight on. Losing was not an option after all that he had been through lately. He needed to show that he had matured both mentally and physically into the young man that Master Roshi had trained. Herra was more than capable of taking Krillin on with raw strength and speed, and now he had shown Krillin that he was not to be taken lightly despite his limited knowledge of Master Roshi's techniques. When Herra came down to engage him, Krillin didn't shy away. Instead, he bent his right arm and sent his elbow toward Herra's jaw repeatedly, hoping to knock him into submission. Each elbow smash carried with it the frustration Krillin felt when he thought of how his mistakes over the past few weeks was costing him. The battle he was now in was against Herra and his own demons. He was becoming his own worst enemy, even after feeling the blonde beauty's wrath and the people of West City before her. They were now aware of a conspiracy concerning their finances and they didn't like it. Stop hanging on to the past and let go! He reminded himself. He looked at Herra and an idea occurred to him. After pulling back his elbow, his fist ignited with blue-white Ki. His Ki surged forward as his fist trailed it on the way toward the spot on Herra's jaw that he hopefully softened up. Herra might be able to handle it, but Krillin still had to show that he was not going down unless he was knocked unconscious or Master Roshi intervened. For the moment, the old man stayed quiet and watched his two students duke it out.

The other fighter bent back when Herra charged and hammered several elbow blows towards his face. The boy prince was surprised to see that these, while very speedy, were not nearly the speed of the attacks Krillin had displayed at the fight’s beginning. Maybe he’s slowing down? he wondered. But he couldn’t wonder for too long. These attacks were still plenty fast for the less experienced boy. With some effort in concentration, Herra lifted both arms and rhythmically batted the elbows away from his face, but the power behind them was punishing his forearms, especially his right arm, which had already taken quite a bit of punishment (1&2). Luckily, all the blows were directed at the same place, so they were easy to predict. In fact, he was getting into quite a groove, so much so that when Krillin drew back and empowered his fist, the prince was still blocking. However, while the hesitation afforded the other fighter the time he wanted, it also gave Herra plenty of time to prepare for the punch. Now! his mind shouted, desperately seeking the opportunity to make a point that counted. Krillin’s right arm came back, but this time lashing from beyond his elbow with a blue flame. Herra leaned to his left, behind the punch, and grasped the offending, outstretched wrist with his left hand, exposing the whole of Krillin’s right side. With a loud kiai, Herra crossed his right fist into the unprotected side of Krillin’s face (3). With Krillin’s arm still outstretched, Herra jerked up with his right knee into his opponent’s chest to wind his opponent (4). Finally, he slammed his foot back down, pivoting on it and delivered another powerful fist, his left this time, into the back of the shiny head (5). ___ Actions 1. Block elbows 2. Block elbows 3. (OOC: 24 hour rule, and Krillin forfeited. OOC Battle Thread) Oooh. Yep. He was slowing down. All of Herra’s counter moves on the opposing human fighter hit solidly and squarely. The boy stood awkwardly over his bruised and passed-out opponent, not sure whether or not to keep holding his guard. All in all, he should be grateful that he doesn’t have a nose. The surgery would’ve been terrible. Finally, the Kame-senin held up his hand and ended the fight. Relieved, the prince lowered his hands and bent down close to his foe. The master met him there, and checked Krillin’s vitals. “Solid K-O,” the old man said. “Don’t worry. It’s nothing that a few days rest won’t fix.” “Then I did well?” the boy asked expectantly. “You did adequately,” Roshi said, returning to his feet. “But you only got lucky.” “What do you mean?” Herra responded indignantly. “You’ll see. Krillin was not in his best form today. Perhaps I shouldn’t have pushed him….” As Roshi pondered to himself, Herra pouted, feeling his victory stolen from him. I knocked him out cold. I worked hard, got strong and prevailed. What’s to question?” “Ah well,” Roshi said, breaking the silence. “I’ll talk to him later. As for you, you can carry his body to his bed and then continue your normal training.” Grumpily, but knowing well what Roshi could do by way of coercion, the prince bent back down and carefully lifted his fellow student from the sand and walked back to the house. __ Actions 1-3. Accept Krillin’s forfeiture. |
