EDIT: Android #19 Total Word Count: 2105 Herra Valo Total Word Count: 1033 There was little time for today. Perhaps a quick simulation regarding what he has worked on so far would suffice. Android #19 landed down in a familiar grassy meadow, located a few miles away from his home base in the Northern Mountains. As usual, he quickly scanned the area to check if there was anyone nearby. Other than concentrations of power levels correlating to wildlife, nothing else was detected at this time. He had been practicing this habit for quite some time now, but during each and every repetition, #19 attempted to be as meticulous as possible. A most basic function indeed, but one that is infinitely useful; an ambush or just a situation that he gets caught off guard could be easily prevented as long as his detection skills did not become sloppy. While most of the time, nothing came up, there were isolated examples where he met incredibly strong warriors. In fact, in this very field was where he met a mysterious Saiyan with a power level reaching 100,000. However, those were outliers. While the chances of random encounters were low, that does not imply that they were nonexistent. He needed to be prepared for any situation that may arise. For now, nothing appeared to be out of the ordinary. A regular simulation to practice certain combinations of physical attacks was deemed acceptable. #19 crouched low, and began boxing the air as he practiced against an imaginary opponent. ----- Word Count: 241 #19 Word Count: 241 Spar Word Count: 241 |

Exiled Prince

The old master had the boy prince, Herra, on a world tour. At one point he insisted on his students going on world travels by foot to encounter new people and to live of their talents. However, since the advent of Earth learning more sophisticated ki techniques, that journey had become somewhat blasé. Now, the thing to do was to try and maintain a consistent handle on your ki by traveling the world via bukujutsu in one continuous flight. Herra had made it significantly across the continent, and was getting to get a little desperate for a respite from his stress. There were still many miles to go, however. After all, many of the other planets were larger than Earth, and Herra might need this stamina training in his travels. He was flying fairly low, trying to keep his mind off of the internal strain he was feeling by dodging trees. His internal senses were feeling for strong, living signals and his eyes were dedicated to geological impediments and vegetation. Finally, he broke through the trees into a golden clearing. With a sigh, he closed his eyes, grateful to give them a brief rest while he traveled through open air. His senses didn’t pick up a single soul in the region, so he puttered on carelessly. He did not anticipate an android being his way. Without slowing in the slightest, his body crashed solidly into the white frame of the strange individual. The prince managed to stay aloft, but had some difficulty stabilizing himself. He opened his eyes and evaluated the situation. “Oh no. Not another robot!” The twelve year old boy hovered horizontally, his limbs drooping to the ground as he stared eye to eye with the larger figure before him. He had met several robots in his time as a martial artist. Only one had been peaceful. With a sigh, he lifted his hands in a boxing position, allowing his legs to remain dangling listlessly. “Guess this is what we’re doing?” ___ WC: 333 |

Android #19 raised his arms and was about to swing for another quick punch through the air. Suddenly, a dull red started to pulse through his blue pupils, as his scouter detected a power level headed his way. Unlike some of his previous measurements, the values detected continue to fluctuate as it continued to approach closer and closer. With all of the data taken so far, it was estimated within reasonable accuracy that the incoming individual had a power level of around 18,000. The pale machine did not change his posture but merely turned his head to the right. Visual data indicates that the person looked familiar; from his data banks, there were some characteristics similar enough to one of the four spotted on Muten Roshi’s island in the past. Calculations indicate that there was a 78% match up. Regardless, it was another powerful individual that headed his way. It turned out to be a young boy. Judging just from his physical appearance, his age falls in the pre-teen to teen range. His eyes were closed and was barreling forward. #19 did not change his expression as he attempted to analyze the situation. What exactly is he doing? And more importantly, how did he attain such power at such an age, should his calculations be correct? Without any warning, the two collided in the middle of the field, with the boy’s head ramming into #19’s cheek. The android managed to maintain his balance, but only did so after a couple of stumbling steps backwards. It was no mistake, that dealt enough damage to his system to be noticeable. ...perhaps he needed to stop coming to this training ground. He always seemed to encounter strangers that outclassed him in terms of raw ability. #19 relaxed his arms as the male realized what had happened, and exclaimed in surprise. The pudgy android narrowed his eyes, “You have made an interesting observation,” he stated, “How did you realize that I am fully synthetic?” The boy had proceeded to raise his arms up in a fighting stance. While the action itself appeared to be hostile, the gesture seemed to be half hearted, as indicated with the sigh beforehand. Whatever his intentions were, the last thing #19 wanted to be involved in was to make an enemy of someone like him. The safer route would be to defuse the situation as quickly as possible, “I do not understand,” #19 continued, feigning ignorance in a typical robotic fashion, “What is this that you speak of?” ----- Word Count: 420 #19 Word Count: 420 + 241 = 661 Spar Word Count: 241 + 333 + 420 = 994 |

The android’s apparent lack of understanding startled the human. The creation’s pattern of speech made it seem much less sophisticated than the models of Roc or Revan had been. Basically, it seemed twice the machine they were, and half the psychopath. And yet, Herra didn’t quite trust it still. Machines can be deceiving since their subtext is so hard to detect. Of course, the boy couldn’t think quite so clearly on his motives for distrusting the machine. He simply admitted to distrusting inhumanity. Herra’s eyes narrowed and floated cautiously in a circle around the robot. “I have been trained in detecting the ki flow around me. Living beings have a high concentration of ki, but non living things, well, they just sort of look like the scenery. I couldn’t tell your body’s ki from a rock or the air I’m breathing,” the boy said in answer to A19’s query on how he knew he was synthetic. “So, you must be a machine, right? What is it you’re doing here? You don’t seem to be on a very important task.” Herra had wondered for sometime about the robotic anomalies he’d found. The ones that had been involved in that isolate Saiyan hunt were clearly programmed and on a mission. Roc and Revan, though, they seemed like they simply existed naturally like a living creature. Herra was uncomfortable to note that this particular android had more similarities with the ones that were violently programmed. He kept his hands up. ___ HerraWC: 247/580 SparTotal: 1241 |

As the boy continued to remain hovering in midair, and even began to circle around him, Android #19 stood straight and tall, his eyes focused on some object in the distance directly in front of him. While his outward appearance remained passive, the machine remained on alert. His internal processes had sped up considerably, preparing for the worst that could come from this predicament. The young human completed another revolution, passing by the front. A better, clearer profile picture was quickly taken and stored in his memory files. While there was some tension in the air, there did not appear to be any distinct hostile signs that the android could pick up on. At most, his analysis of the stranger would categorize the powerful lad to be ‘wary’. That would be an accurate enough word choice. However, what were the underlying motivations behind this sort of behavior? #19 neither recalled to himself exhibiting any form of behavior that would result in this scenario, nor was the boy floating around him forced by any means to engage in conversation. Instead, the continuation of this situation was mainly initiated by the human, dropping whatever he was doing and honing in on the fact that #19 was an android. Indeed, there was a decent chance that this was his primary goal, and everything else was a facade. On the other hand, there did appear to be some underlying tone of bias towards synthetic beings from the dialogue thus far, especially the interrogation on his current activities. If this was the case, it may be harder to avoid an all out battle--a battle that the overweight artificial human would most likely lose at best. At worst...well, it was not self-preservation that was most important. The assigned mission objectives have not been completed yet, and to remain functional would mean another day to work towards that goal. “It is true that ki detection is a valid ability,” the pale android said aloud, his voice box emitting his typical mechanical tone, “But I can counter that argument with the existence of another technique: ki suppression. I believe that if you consider that, there is a flaw in your reasoning. However, I do concede that other signs that lead to my identity does exist; my robotic voice as well as my ‘unnatural’ way of expressing myself are key details. I am a machine, as you say.” “I am merely conducting a combat simulation as of now before this encounter,” Android #19 continued, attempting to gain the initiative in this shadow dance, “I do not believe it would be categorized as ‘important’ to you. What is your specific interest in my activities? As of now, I have posed no visible threat towards your person; in fact, you were the one that collided into me. Considering your following actions, there is ample evidence for the authorities to arrest you for aggravated assault.” ----- Word Count: 484 #19 Word Count: 661 + 484 = 1145 Spar Word Count: 1241 + 484 = 1725 |

The android’s stoic pose and confident answers completely took Herra off guard. He’s right! he fumed inside as he realized that this machine had not even engaged him except at his own encouragement. It was Tambourine all over again. The prince dropped his guard immediately and floated politely back in from the machine. “I’m sorry,” the prince stated humbly, hoping to defuse the android’s intention to prosecute. “I haven’t had many casual encounters with androids and I was just being careful. Really. No harm intended.” The prince felt that he should probably just go and leave the android alone, but something about the phrase “combat simulations” led the prince to still be wary of this android’s intentions. After all, it could’ve been programmed to be a weapon somewhere. If that was the case, then Herra would have to destroy it. Also, there was the fact that this robot seemed capable of teaching the boy a thing or two. “But if I can ask,” the prince began with his best manners, “what is ki suppression, exactly?” he asked. “I’ve never heard of that technique before.” He then added slyly, “Does it have anything to do with these simulations you are working on?” HerraWC: 201/781 Total: 1926 |

It seemed like he had forced the boy on defense. True, the nearest city where any form of authoritative power was several miles off, and thus the threat he had issued was rather empty, if the human took drastic measures. Still, it seemed like it was effective enough, and the sway of the government seemed to hold some form of value for the apologetic youth. #19 made a note of that. Currently, he is vulnerable at this point, or seemingly so. All of his conclusions can only be based on physical signs and body language exhibited. However, the chances that a person this young would think of faking emotion so convincingly were not too high. Overall, things were all going according to the calculations, or so it initially seemed. The next step would be the most crucial. Now would be the time to open up friendly negotiations. While the ideal outcome would be to acquire another ally, the realistic chances of such a result were infinitesimal. Trust, especially in relation to organic beings, needed time to build. That was part of the equation. Up to this point, the human had backed down, for now. In fact, what was an outright confrontation merely moved into a new phase, as indicated by continued questions from the lad. Android #19 was still in a battle of wits against the stranger, analogous to both smiling at each other while holding knives behind their backs. He would need to word his answers carefully, and most important of all, he can’t let the boy catch on to the large difference in power levels. “I apologize if the statement I uttered was too harsh,” the pudgy android made a slight bow of his head, “Your intentions are understandable. I am ready to forget this incident if you are willing to make that commitment. Let us begin this discussion anew.” That was a bold faced lie. Even if he did want to forget, he would need to acquire a memory chip of some sorts. “Ki suppression can be described as the opposite of ki detection,” he continued, “Perhaps, even, a counter to ki detection. This technique allows one to artificially lower their ki flow--as you would describe it--so it would appear lower than it actually is. I understand that Muten Roshi does teach ki suppression as part of his training regiment; judging from your outfit, you may have knowledge about the turtle hermit. While I do not have an orange gi in my possession, I am currently studying under Muten Roshi. If you believe that my claim is not credible, you may go ask him about Android Number Nineteen.” There. He avoided directly answering the last question, while leaving implications for the youth to figure out for himself. None of the answers he gave were false by any means, but with the way he carried and expressed himself, hopefully the boy would buy into the small amount of misdirection. Now would be the time to extend some form of trust before he could fully process and think about the information given thus far. “If you rely on one sense, your other senses deteriorate. As you did not sense any ki, you natural concluded that there was nobody in this area; if you had opened your eyes, your sight would have contradicted your previous thinking. This could also be applied to any form of confrontation. If you have focused on training your ki sense for a long period of time without maintaining focus on the other senses, you would be at a severe disadvantage--such as keeping track of your opponent’s position, if nothing else. Distractions and other factors would affect your performance. If you would prefer, I can demonstrate my point via a quick exchange of blows. Specifically, I will attack at two places: a horizontal kick aimed towards your left ear and an elbow drop aimed at the back of your right knee. Both attacks will be mild, so if you fail to block them, negligible damage will be done.” "However, I do have other commitments to attend to in the near future, so with your permission, I will be taking my leave after this. I do plan on continuing my training at Kame House in three days, so if you are around the area at that time..." the pale android paused, "...do come over and say 'hi'." That was probably the most 'human' phrase he had uttered since reactivation. Those evaluations on human social interactions had certainly paid off. ----- Word Count: 752 #19 Word Count: 1145 + 752 = 1897 Spar Word Count: 1926 + 752 = 2678 ((OOC: This...turned out to be much longer for a 'wrap up' than I had expected. While the android’s admission of overreacting was somewhat disconcerting—machine’s should react exactly the way they were programmed, after all—the error was ‘human,’ and Herra was subconsciously appeased. The next two revelations, one about ki suppression and one about 19 being a student of Roshi’s, were what sat Herra down. At the end of the day, he couldn’t confirm whether or not this creation did indeed know Roshi or whether it was just using Herra’s training outfit as an emotional lever to turn the discussion without actually asking Roshi himself, so the boy prince believed him for now. He was admittedly more comfortable with someone whom Roshi trusted. “Artificially lower ki?” the boy repeated. “But that would be like killing yourself? Well, unless you had such an impressive life force…that could be possible. Admittedly, there are lots of living things that don’t have a noticeable flow…. Maybe if you just slowed the flow inside of yourself…. Or leaving your body….” The prince mumbled a bit more theory to himself before shaking his head to clear it. He would talk to Roshi about how Ki suppression worked at another time. 19’s point about relying too much on one sense made sense. “Alright, let’s see your moves,” the prince said referring to 19’s apparent offer for a demonstration. The boy figured that if 19 could have or was designed to kill him, then he probably would have already. Besides, Roshi is encouraging him to stretch himself. “Let’s see if I can focus enough.” ___ HerraWC: 252/1033 SparTotal: 2930 Human EXP gain. |

((OOC: Was given permission to roleplay Herra being hit)) #19 nodded in response before stating, "The simulation will commence in 3...2...1." Immediately after, he put his speed boosters into overdrive as he accelerated towards the kid, his image flickering from detection by the naked eye. By the time he appeared again, his leg was already swinging towards the boy's head, in exactly the same form that he had promised. His temporary target appeared to react, but the block was not fast enough, as #19's shin collided with the side of the boy's head. The android continued moving, blurring out of sight for a second time as he zipped towards the back of the young lad. Coming down, he lunged out with his elbow out, hitting the back of the right knee. The pale machine landed back down on the grass in front of the boy. Both attacks had been successful, but other than slight amounts of pain, no considerable damage was done. Taking another slight bow, he merely stated, "I'll be taking my leave now. Good day," before flying up into the air to dashing into the direction opposite of the Northern Mountains. If he wanted to return to the lab that day, he would have to take a long detour to make sure he wasn't followed. ----- Word Count: 208 #19 Word Count: 208 +1897 = 2105 Spar Word Count: 2930 + 208 = 3138 |
