[Combat Rune]

Osiris sat crossed legged in a stiff backed chair at his desk reading over tomes older than one has right to speak of age. His finger ran along the lines of text using the black tipped nail to mark his place. In the opposite hand was a silver pen that was busy scratching out new lines of text on another piece of paper. The pallor youth had become an adept of ancient histories, occult texts, and works that had lain buried away from public eyes for generations. Secrets were his new business, and his notes furiously tried to link phenomenon form the deep past to the present galaxy.

The paper rustled as the mixed breed sighed deeply. He had been at this work for at least two hours now. It was time for a break, and some exercise. Still, the so called angel was still recovering from the last exchange they shared. So solitary sword work with Zar’rock would suffice for exercise, but do little to take his mind off the plodding studying.

Brilliant purple light flashed from his pocket as the gem there shined into life. The choice had been made before the conclusion was even drawn. In a blinding instant Osiris went from sitting in a small, dark library to standing on a massive frozen lake. A light snow fell from the cloudy sky without any window disturb the decent.

So, who will be my opponent for today?

Breathing in the cold air the mixed breed started pumping Ki into his veins, ready to use. Two orbs of energy formed in either hand. As soon as his opponent arrived, things would get going right quick.

“Damn it, it’s 7 already? …Alright. Seems like time always speeds up now that I’m trying to catch a break.” Asroth continued to grumble to himself as he got to his feet, turning off his alarm clock irritably. But still the ringing noise continued, piercing his ears. After a moment of confusion, he opened his eyes and looked at the alarm clock, found the specific button, and pressed firmly down.

Nothing happened.

The Avalanian instantly stiffened. That wasn’t the sound of his alarm, then. That must be a city-wide alert.

Something’s going down, and they need me to take care of it.

The Exile threw some clothes on haphazardly, reached for the Standard Issue Arm Blaster he’d been equipped with (though he had no idea why, as he could perform Ki perfectly well on his own) and ran for the door. But he hesitated.

Asroth had just gotten out of bed; it would be helpful if he could warm up before what could possibly threaten the entire planet’s safety. So he reached out for the already glowing gemstone on his nightstand, and clutched it, allowing himself to be sucked within its grasp and brought… to a winter wonderland?

“Wow.”

Snow fell lightly all around him, shining against the bright sky. He stepped forward, feeling the crackle of snow, and breathed in and out sharply, the crisp air rejuvenating him, and waking him up faster than any cup of coffee could. Looking in the distance, he saw a lake, and a dark figure in the middle of it. The Damaskian clothing was just as dark, so if Asroth could see this man, he clearly could be seen as well.

So fuck the theatrics.

Asroth began to casually jog over to the lake, ready to get his practice fight in. “Hell—” The words caught in his throat as he saw none other than his new friend, the Goth God.

Boxers, seriously?

Osiris raised an eyebrow at the man standing before him. There was something of a contradiction surrounding the still nameless stranger. All his features screamed Avalonian, and yet if the demonic vessel was not mistaken . . . he was wearing the clothing most familiar on Damaskia. There was just something slightly wrong about that on the surface, though it probably wasn’t the time or place to ask why.

Well, we meet again. I am glad you had the chance to get dressed for this meeting. Your choice of apparel is, interesting,” the youth’s voice held its usual cold demeanor until it hit the last word with a slight overabundance of emphasis. Maybe the slight tone inflection would be enough to prompt a story, not that it mattered much.

Shifting his feet and leaning his body weight forward, the mix breed signaled he was ready to start. He shot forward cracking the ice under his feet slightly and then dropped onto his hip. Gliding across the ice Osiris intended on trying to slide-tackle the Avalonian or force him into the air. Both Ki orbs still fully charged in his hands were let loose just as he was about to make contact. One aimed for the stomach, the other for the chest, and both meant to dive the opponent upwards with their force.

“Well, we meet again. I am glad you had the chance to get dressed for this meeting.” Asroth smiled awkwardly. It was hard to forget that scene from back on Earth, but he was trying.

Hard.

“Your choice of apparel is… interesting.”

His eyes darted up at the Goth God’s. Could he know? The Avalanian wondered how he could word his story to where it would be completely overlooked (aka: lie) but thankfully the pale figure couldn’t keep his attention running for long, and slid his foot deceptively slow, letting Asroth know the bout was to begin.

Guess I’ve got a minute or two to figure out what to say.

The creature began to move forward, falling forward on his knee in speed skater format, making himself a smaller object to pick up speed easier. Asroth realized that he seemed to be holding two glowing orbs in his hands, and recognized the spheres as balls of Ki. The Avalanian attempted to move to the side and avoid the strike, but his newfound power wasn’t quite enough to outmatch this being’s speed.

Both hands slammed into the Exile’s body, feeling like twin crystal balls crushing against his body. Gravity held no meaning for a brief timeless, moment, made even more clear by the ageless image before him; Asroth shook his head, letting snowflakes fall from his scalp that had been gathering there.

Another moment in space followed, before his body collapsed against a massive pile of snow, feeling like an icy mattress.

“Oof!”

Getting to his feet, Asroth grabbed a fistful of the snow, and darted forward, letting a ball of Ki form in his left palm. After reaching an acceptable distance, he moved his right hand forward and flashed the snow around the fast moving sphere, letting imagination take hold over logic: it wasn’t like this place necessarily held normal bounds; people don’t get bitch-slapped by islands in reality.

As expected, the snow covered the ball of Ki, and he lobbed it at the Goth God, aiming directly for his face. Right after throwing it, the Avalanian slid on his leg like a baseball player trying to get to base. At the last second, Asroth pushed his arms down, trying to flip his legs up and kick his opponent (hopefully to the ground).

After his blows had landed Osiris was side stepping back and forth to maintain himself as a moving target. Not that it really mattered though. ‘Boxers’ clearly had no intentions on relegating combat to long distance. Before the youth knew what was cuming the Avalonian was throwing a load of white snow straight into his face.

Why is it always the face, pause.

Swinging his forearm like a club the demonic vessel tried to sweep the distraction away. Instead, a blast hammered into his elbow stopping the movement. The fine snow still hung in the air slightly making everything hazy. Osiris stepped back trying to get clear vision back, but there was no time. A foot slammed into his upper thigh and hip . Between the unguarded attack, being on one foot, and the absolutely traction free terrain . . . standing up just wasn’t an option anymore.

He dug his hard black nails into the ice like a brake to stop himself from sliding any further. Sitting there on his ass for a second Osiris considered trying to stand up, but the effort seemed like it would be wasted. Rolling over into a plank position, his combat boot raised high into the air and then slammed back down into the ice. An explosion of ki erupted from his shin and sent a shockwave of force into the water below. In an instant, large waves battered into the underside of the ice completely ruining the once stable platform.

A deep breath filed two lungs, and then a second later the freezing water nearly kicked it all out. Fighting the shock, two deep purple eyes searched the misty blue water. Ki pushed out of the soles of his feet propelling the demonic vessel through the water to reach his prey. Whether he had to jump out of the water and drag him down, or just pull him further into the dark depths . . . Osiris was going to drag ‘Boxers’ to the bottom of the lake one way or another.

“It worked?”

The fact he’d actually made contact with his opponent and sent him flying sent a thrill through his body. Perhaps he truly was growing in power. Could he chuck an island too, soon? Perhaps he was some kind of unbelievable warrior, or had leagues of untapped potential that allowed him to momentarily reach the stature of these god-lik—

Cra-a-a-a-ack!

Asroth looked down, watching a sliver running across the lake, breaking the ice in two at light speed. The Avalanian tried to jump into the air to avoid being sucked into the lake, but the cracking of the ice had a similar quality to that of a ship sinking: whether you had the ability to avoid it or not, the tug of what was going underwater seemed to pull everything around it deep within the watery depths, much like a maelstrom.

Asroth just barely managed to grab a gulp of air, mixed in with ice cold water, before his face dropped below the surface. The underside of the lake was dark and murky, with the appearance of hidden monsters deep inside. Despite that, Asroth simply spun around over and over, kicking with his legs casually to keep his place for the moment. His greatest fear would be being forced to grapple with that demon while underwater. He’d certainly die.

Just as he was almost completely sure he was alone, the Avalanian felt the sharp tug at his legs: it was the Goth god! Panicking, Asroth kicked out as hard as he could, trying to slam the head of his opponent over and over until he was let free. The actions of the previous moments had given him the confidence that in times of stress, his strength would be able to rival this being. And, feeling him lose oxygen bit by bit, with no easy way to get to it until he freed himself, Asroth felt perfectly content in calling this moment ‘stressful’.
