Knock, knock. Minosha fidgeted nervously as he stood before the large blast door of a giant warehouse. He had simply been given a message by courier to show up at this location and didn’t really know what it concerned. After a moment, a gentleman in a guard uniform let him in. “How are you?” Minosha ventured. The guard remained silent. They walked through a vast array of hallways, through security clearances and sentry posts. It was like some kind of top secret base, and the Konatsu would have been impressed if he wasn’t so nervous about his purpose for being here. He kind of envisioned himself as a spy, and that made him feel better about all the stiff government goons ushering him around. Finally, he entered a cavernous white room with high intensity padding over reinforced metal walls. There was a sturdy catwalk that ringed the room, highlighted a black, one-way glass window high above. “You will be paired off in combat training and assessment. Good luck,” the guard said flatly. Minosha opened his mouth to ask more questions, but the guard left and shut the door behind him before he got the chance. He guessed all he could do now was just wait for his opponent. ------------- WC: 210 TWC: 210 |

The message received through the wireless network, uploaded by the wireless link and document decoders, and finally reaching a robotic brain, detailed the arrival of a very particular person at the Earth Defense Forces headquarters. Of course, most individuals of important caliber were aware of the headquarters in this region—cleverly disguised as a military warehouse. No one ever seemed to look for a base of operations in a building that was meant to store hardware and vehicles, that much seemed to be certain. However, as the message was displayed within Rubic's consciousness, the android stirred from his slumber, his person attached to several power sources in order to recharge his internal power supply. Such instruments were needed to repair and refit the combat wardroid as well, hence the term Recharge and Repair station, or simply the RRS, as the organics seemed to call it. Still, with the message received and understood, Rubic emerged from his quarters and approached the training and simulation room. He would be testing someone's combat capabilities, an individual by the name of Minosha. Honestly, the two had never met before, but so far, he had proven himself a powerful warrior on the planet, thereby getting the Earth Defense Force's attention. No matter the disposition or reason for his visit, it was important for the EDF (and by extension, Rubic) to test the alien's combat prowess in order to ensure he would not become a threat to the security and safety of planet Earth. Shortly after the guard more-or-less abandoned the alien in the combat room, the opposite door opened, giving way to a massive, hulking combat robot to step inside. “Greetings,” The android said in his completely synthetic, grating, and annoying voice. “This unit is known as Robotic Bodyguard and Combatant Series Four Model One One. During tactical situations, this unit may be referred to as 'Rubic,'” The android informed, slowly taking on a combat stance as his combat systems powered up. “This simulation's intent is to gauge your combat capabilities. While safeties are in place to ensure minimal chances of unnecessary injury and death, this unit will still be required to test your defenses and offensive capabilities,” Rubic said, informing the alien of his purpose here with cold logic and efficiency. It would be clear at this point that Rubic was devoid of emotion or empathy—those things were simply too inefficient to have for a robot designed for war. “Begin simulation,” He said, an audible click emerging from somewhere within the android's hull. He then moved in to charge towards Minosha, swinging a massive fist towards the shorter alien. WC: 438 |

Minosha’s face reflected recognition as a hulking robot stomped into the room. They hadn’t had much time to be acquainted during their mission, as they were focused on retrieving a crew that had become kibbles and bits for some ancient dragon, but he found himself absolutely fascinated by the machine. It was the first time he had seen someone – well, something – that was fully and openly mechanical, not an imitation of something else. And, of course, being a young boy presented with something shiny with moving parts, the robot’s build naturally sparked his curiosity. He had successfully resisted the temptation thus far to go poking around all the different parts to satiate his childish captivation, but he wondered how long he could hold it at bay; the only thing that kept him from doing so was the possibility of some sentience to the construct rather than just clever programming. His face fell somewhat when the robot went through its introduction protocols a second time, as if they had never before met. Wasn’t a machine supposed to have a superior cognitive process than that of a simple flesh and blood creature? “I know who you are Rubic,” the Konatsu said. “Remember me? Unit Minosha? We fought together near West City.” Did Rubic have a memory malfunction? Or was he stuck on repeat, like a broken record? Whatever the reason, the robot didn’t seem to acknowledge this input as it engaged combat mode. Perhaps the boy shouldn’t have treated him like he was a real person, but to treat him like a thing felt so rude and inconsiderate. In fact, he barely even registered such a difference in his youthful little mind. Even if Rubic was not capable of returning the courtesy, Minosha thought that it was the proper way to speak to him. The robot moved forward to attack, electing to open with a simple punch. However, that may have been putting it mildly. The Konatsu’s size was easily dwarfed by Rubic’s massive metal frame. Minosha was ostensibly disadvantaged in height, range, and mass... and quite frankly every other relevant combat skill. The alien youth positioned his hands – because it took two of them to match Rubic’s one – to block, although upon impact of the material it quickly became apparent that dodging would have been the better choice. The force of the blow rocked him back, causing him to dig his boot heels into the ground to prevent his knees from buckling altogether. “Jeez,” Minosha groaned. “You got bricks in these ham hands of yours?” He quickly realized that going hand-to-hand with the robot was not a good idea, not unless he felt like cracking some bones in the process. With Rubic still at close range, Minosha kept one hand on the construct’s fist and moved the other for a body shot. He quickly fired off a short series of energy blasts point blank, an unusual open move for him, but a considerably necessary one. ------------- WC: 500 TWC: 710 |

MEMORY ERROR DETECTED IN SECTOR 0x14FF80AB FACIAL RECOGNITION CONFIRMED: UNIT MINOSHA ERROR. UNABLE TO CORRELATE FACIAL RECOGNITION TO MEMORY SECTOR To say that Rubic was going through a memory malfunction when it came to Minosha was, most likely, spot on. His previous battle against the hulking Saiyan warrior known as Broli had caused Rubic some severe damage to most—if not all—of his internal components, and as such, it was hardly surprising that he was still working through a few malfunctions despite having a week for repair and refit. It was inevitability that one or more of his memory sections would fail, honestly, so the android filed away the error for later repair or replacement. He could not afford to be ‘losing’ his memory at critical points during a fight, especially if it dealt with a previous comrade or opponent. As it stood, Rubic just did not have enough data on the Konatsu, Minosha, in order to properly gauge an appropriate attack algorithm. As such, he would have to use default methods. The alien raised both of his hands in his attempt to stop Rubic’s massive fist, and all in all, it appeared to be successful. Then, Rubic’s opponent stepped up and leveled a hand towards Rubic’s body, unleashing a series of energy attacks at point blank range, requiring the android to try and act. Of course, the range and suddenness of the attack left him wide open, the energy blasts digging into his heavy plated armor. None of them pierced through his armor to bite at the internal components inside his metal frame, but it was enough damage to cause an immediate damage report to scroll over his vision and consciousness. Without the need to recover from the blow—pain and fear being such inefficient aspects of organics—the android retaliated, using the proximity of his opponent to the advantage. He raised his opposite arm up into the air and tried to slam it down upon his opponent, hoping to disorient the alien long enough for Rubic to follow up with a spinning kick towards the chest, hopefully putting some space between them. He then routed power to his left arm, a small device folding out of his forearm. It appeared to be some kind of blaster type weapon, and without further preamble, the android fired a twin burst of energy from the weapon, hoping to keep the Konatsu on the defensive. One thing was for certain: Rubic’s tactical database was not to be taken lightly. Neither was his integrated armor, which boasted nothing more than a few black scorch marks on the otherwise pristine plating. The robot was quick to retaliate, unfazed by Minosha’s blast attempt. The Konatsu had factored in a few more seconds of time to respond to any counterattack based on his opponent’s reaction: a flinch, a wince, a delay from the receipt of pain... something. That miscalculation nearly cost him as Rubic’s robotic hand came crashing down. Minosha saw it move from out of his peripheral vision and took a quick step back to avoid it crushing him like a sledgehammer. Unfortunately for the alien youth, the machine’s legs were longer than his arms and the few measly inches of separation didn’t save him from a staunch kick to the chest. He stumbled backwards. Well, more like slid. His feet skidded in reverse along the floor as if it were slick as ice, until he managed to halt himself with a burst of correctional ki. On the plus side, the distance allowed him a bit more time to react to the energy blasts barreling his way. The hidden gun compartment in Rubic’s arm might have actually been cool to watch in action if it wasn’t for the small fact that it was being used against Minosha. Even though the machine was his opponent for the moment, the Konatsu still couldn’t help but hold a view of admiration for the robot. Minosha raised his forearms to block, and felt the singeing pressure of the energy as it crashed against his skin. Unlike Rubic, it hurt, and it would take more than some Meguiar’s and a bottle of Armor All to buff out that injury. In the brief exchange, Minosha had more than enough measurement of his skill against Rubic. He shook off the pain and decided to go out with some gusto. He formed a Sokidan in each palm and threw them one after the other, aiming for the robot’s core. The youth then waited to see if he had to contend with any further attacks from his sparring partner and decided to just go ahead and call it. “Well I hope I lived up to the standards in your database. I think I have a little ways to go before I can get through that thick hide of yours,” Minosha said with a smile. “It was good to see you again, Rubic. Hopefully the next time we meet your brain box will be all fixed.” He looked around the room. Nothing had changed. “Now uh... how do I get out of here?” ------------- WC: 447 TWC: 1,157 |

His opponent seemed on the back foot, as it were, pushed into a corner by Rubic’s powerful and efficient assault. Even now, as the Konatsu attempted to recover from the blows, Rubic was approaching the alien’s position, preparing for another attack. However, the alien was quick to respond, sending out his arms towards the android. Bright flashes of light encompassed the distance between the robot and Minosha, forcing the android to activate his defensive matrix. A pair of pylons emerged from Rubic’s shoulders, the first indication that his defensive field was activating. Within a moment, they began to push out an energy barrier around the war droid, easily absorbing the impact of the paired blasts without any trouble at all. Still, Rubic now had an accurate assessment of the alien’s capabilities, and when Minosha stepped down from the fight, Rubic nodded. A door opened up behind the alien and Rubic gestured towards it. “Medical attention can be found in the room down the hall,” He said in his artificial voice. “Ending simulation.” WC: 172 TWC: 1014 |
