Minosha sighed. He’d taken some time to think, to clear his mind. Was everything in life really so complicated or did he just make it out to be? Training was simple, easy. People, now that was an entirely different story. He was having a hard time figuring Pan out, how quickly she shifted modes on him. He wondered if he had offended her in their last encounter, with his challenge for her to kill him in the astral realm. He was only basing that off of what she told him previously, and had simply assumed it was the best way to get her to go ahead and do it. And then she’d flat out refused, after threatening that she would. It was almost like the two had switched roles: Pan was insisting they were comrades, and Minosha was the one pulling away. He pondered the idea that something might have happened to change her mind, if it had something to do with his sudden outburst a couple spars back.

He pulled out his gem and tossed it into his palm. She had insisted they continue their training sessions. Her adamant determination that they become stronger together had alleviated some of the tension between them, but Minosha still felt on uneasy ground. After all, there was still the matter with Tapion’s aggressions. There was still the matter of his past catching up to his present. And then suddenly he realized he knew next to nothing about Pan, only that she seemed to care enough about him to want to stick around.

The boy clutched the jewel tightly, calling out to her with his mind. The world faded around him, and he decided to construct something a little familiar. He recalled the island where they had first met. It felt fitting enough, given his intentions to inquire about her history. It would be like they were meeting all over again, forming a new impression of the saiyan.

Since he had a bad habit of making a poor opening move, he would let her lead their deadly little dance.

He stood solemnly, waiting for her arrival with a question on his lips.

“Would you tell me something about yourself?”

[Saiyan Gains]

There was no telling where she'd been before she'd been summoned. She would look back at this week as a blur of past and present that ultimately resulted in power that would vastly benefit her in the future. However, in order for it to occur, she was more or less removed from the area for a good chunk of the week, meaning that whenever the gem of telepathy decided to summon her, she'd have to come from seemingly nowhere. It was, in all honesty, a lot like being back in the Fire Temple.

Pan appeared in the astral realm, looking around in mild confusion as though she'd been in the middle of something when she'd been summoned into the astral realm. The gem of telepathy worked in mysterious ways, of course, and would pull someone whenever they needed to be pulled, even if it seemed to be extremely inappropriate for them. Her aura was white with the crackling red electricity that'd come to join it recently, and her hair was threatening to rise on its own, but the state was existing almost naturally as she looked around the astral realm before she settled her eyes on Minosha.

"Hey there, little bean." She almost smiled, it was all that she could offer at the moment. On second glance it became obvious that it was taking a lot of control to stay in... whatever the hell she was trying to do with her aura and her hair. "Time for another session already, is it?" She fell into a battle stance and said, "We talk while we fight, that's the deal." She waited for him to be ready before she rushed at him and said, "Do you want to know something specific," She punctuated this option with a spinning bottom-fist strike aimed towards his jaw, "Or do you want to know something in general?" She continued the spin but dropped to the floor, turning her next attack into a spinning sweep, aimed to take the warrior off of his feet. Backing up to give him the chance to recover, she added, "Because honestly with all that you've shared, I think you're entitled to a bit of personal Pan history. Though, I warn you, it's not entirely interesting."

Minosha tilted his head curiously. This was new. Whatever power that radiated through Pan, she had never had before. Or at least, she’d never shown him. He grew a little worried, for it seemed she was fighting some internal battle. But, whether it was difficult for her or not, she soldiered on. The Konatsu almost envied the strength of will that she had. It was one more facet that he hadn’t yet been able to match. At the same time, he wanted to say something. Wasn’t that what they were supposed to do? Support each other? And yet, throughout all they had gone through together, Pan was always reminding him that training came first. So he swallowed his concern for the moment and allowed things to be just a little bit simpler. If the time came, he would voice his feelings on the matter.

He moved his forearm to block the fist aimed at his jaw, but missed the drop down sweep across his ankles. He slammed down onto his back, and took a second to absorb the pain before he flipped back on his feet. Instead of creating distance, or pausing between trades in the conversation as he normally did, Minosha firmly decided to play things on Pan’s terms for once. After all, it was only fair. He created a little momentum by coiling his knees and sprung up into a sort of aerial cartwheel, where his foot came crashing down towards her knee in a stomp kick.

“Well, I know you’re from Vegeta...” he began. He ricocheted from wherever his landing point was and did a reverse aerial cartwheel, and flipped backwards in a round-off handspring, shooting out a quick beam in midair. “But how did you grow up? Were you always trained to be a fighter?”

He landed in a crouch, positioned like a feral animal ready to pounce.

Pan saw his attack coming at the last moment, adjusting her hands and dropping them over her knees, creating an exact springboard for him rather than allowing him a crack at her knee. She took a second to shake her hands as a result of the force that he placed. She had to hand it to him, he was indeed getting stronger. If she didn't continue her acceleration, he'd surpass her at some point. She looked forward to the day but feared it at the same time.

The beam smashed into her shoulder and caused her to pause, but she continued with both her physical retaliation and her verbal response, "I'm from Vegeta in the respect that all Saiyans are, but I wasn't born there. The place that I was born doesn't exactly exist yet," Pan said. "I grew up in a tube, mostly, but then I was trained with an elite battalion of warriors created with a single secret mission in mind. I was always trained to be a fighter though, yeah." She shot off four small spheres of energy at him, two from each hand, "Mostly I specialized in melee and weapons combat, with a minor in long range aggressive. Never could get my hands on defensive, oddly enough. And all that tactics stuff is right out of my wheelhouse. If I can't blow it up, my next option is to try to blow it up harder. Like this."

She held out her hand and charged up a small sphere of energy that quickly enlarged in size. Apparently she was testing this particular technique out with every one of her sparring partners. She did, after all, have to get a solid sense of how useful it was. "Big. Bang." She fired off the energy burst at the little Konatsu, some small part of her hoping that he could handle the attack.

Minosha listened raptly to her blunt tale. The more he heard, the more he felt his heart sink in sadness. He wondered what was more difficult: to have everything and then lose it, or to have nothing to begin with. Each presented their own hardships, and in some small way, he was aware that one might be enviable to the other. To start with nothing, they may wish they had everything, and to have everything and then lose it, they may wish they had nothing to begin with. Wherever Pan might have fallen in his theory, he felt them grow closer in that moment, because despite their origins, the universe had left them both bereft of loved ones in the end. Maybe that’s why she’d been so reluctant to accept him as a friend at first, and now refused to let him go.

They held another similarity: both had been trained to fight from a young age. The difference was, Minosha had had a choice in the matter. At least, he thought he did. His recollection of his past was still fuzzy at times from the aftereffects of that damn spell.

He brought up his forearms and managed to block the first two blasts, but the second two slipped on through his guard and pelted him in the chest. He winced, but bit back a grunt through gritted teeth. They stung. Not as much as what Pan had in store for him next, apparently. Minosha’s eyes widened. No matter how badly she’d beaten him before, she’d never let an attack like this loose on him.

Forced to react on a dime, he sucked in a deep breath and gathered a large portion of his energy into his core. Then a high-pitched yell ripped from his throat and he expelled the ki all at once as the Big Bang rushed to wash over him. The sudden pressure of his own internal power combined with the invading force of Pan’s attack racked Minosha’s body, and after a couple of agonizingly long seconds, he felt the Big Bang dissipate around him. He took a few deep breaths and swayed a little, trying to stay on his feet. But he refused to fall. He refused to show that much weakness in front of Pan. Not again.

“We were...” he began, breathy. “...trained to be swordsmen. Our weapon was like... an extension of ourselves.”

He chuckled a little bit, somewhat bitterly. He wondered if she noticed he hadn’t had his blade since his encounter with Tapion. Because he’d given it up. Relinquishing one’s sword was a terrible act of shame to a Konatsu warrior, like a Spartan giving up his shield.

“I used to be stronger than I am now. I lost something after... what happened to me. My power, a lot of my memory. So the rest I’ve had to learn in this era. From Master Roshi. From others. ...From you.”

Minosha straightened up. The talking had given him a much needed opportunity to recover. He had maybe one attack left in him, and the little warrior was going to make it a good one. After all, he had to return Pan’s favor. He slowly lifted his arms outward and poised them one over the other, so his palms faced each other. With a loud thud, he snapped his wrists together, fingers curled out like an open clam shell. Pan could see it coming from a mile away, but that wasn’t the point. This was his chance to demonstrate what he’d learned. He sank his hands below his waist, and started to charge up a little kindling of blue energy.

“Kaaaaaa... meeeeeee....”

The ball expanded, heeding its master’s whim. His face screwed up in concentration, and his lips curled over his teeth.

“...haaaaaaaa... meeeeeeeeee...”

He was going to give this everything he had left.

HAAAAAAAAAAA!

Minosha’s arms shot forward, firing a sizable blue and white ki beam, right for Pan.

Time to see what he was really made of.

Pan had noticed his lack of bladed weapon, but decided not to remark on it. Even when he made mention of it she figured that asking about would only cause him pain. With all they'd been through over the past few weeks, she figured that was the last thing she wanted to cause the little Konats. All she offered was, "Hey, we do have stuff in common after all."

She watched him charge up his attack. She knew that there were a couple of ways she could dismiss the attack easily, but she wanted to see-- no, she wanted to feel exactly how powerful the little warrior had gotten since their initial match. So as he took his stance, she braced herself for the attack. She didn't charge an opposing beam -- truth be told she knew nothing that could match the strength of the legendary Kamehameha, she simply waited.

When the attack came, she held her hands out and lined them with ki and when the attack smashed into them she grunted with pure power, feeling his ki push her back and even begin to overwhelm her. Her arms started off straight out, but within a few seconds they were bent at an angle and the beam of energy was threatening to singe her face. At the last minute she let out a roar of power and raised her hands, moving the ki upwards along with it, effectively redirecting the attack straight upwards. She was breathing heavy too.

After a minute she fell back onto her ass and actually laughed, "Not bad there, little bean. You actually got me sweating." The aura that had been overwhelming her for a while had dissipated and she seemed to relax more than a little bit. She glanced at him and said, "You use the staff I gave you. I hope you take good care of the real thing. It wasn't mine to begin with, you know. Belonged to.. a friend, but I figured you'd make use of it much more than I could. I prefer something weighted in my hands." She touched the hilt of her axe.

Minosha stood, arms still extended, although now they trembled. At first, nothing happened. His attack had done seemingly little to faze her. And then she laughed. It confused him at first, but after a moment, he realized she wasn’t mocking him. Pan’s laugh was... appreciative. Then it became infectious. A smile crept along his face, and he started laughing too. He let his hands drop to his sides, and felt a bit better about falling flat on his back after she had done the same. His chest heaved, and his whole body hurt, but somehow, he felt happy. For once in his life, his failure didn’t bother him. He looked up at the cheerful blue skies of the astral realm, and for the first time in a long time, it was like things were okay again, even if it was just a small piece of solace in his turbulent sea of storms.

The boy craned his neck up from the ground to see Pan. Maybe she felt it too. She didn’t look like she was struggling anymore, and he was glad.

“I’ll take good care of it. I promise.”

Then he settled his head back against the soft blanket of grass and looked up at the skies again. Their battle was over, and the dimension began to dissolve. Minosha closed his eyes. Soon his body would fade away long with it, to be released from the powers of the gem.

“Pan?” he said quietly. He paused a moment, wanting to soak up every last ounce of this feeling, wishing he could bottle it up and save it. “...Thanks.”

And then his mind drifted back to the physical plane, where reality awaited him.
