Site Noob until I revenge kill Toma

Gohan couldn’t remember the last time he had sat down and committed to reading a book. It wasn’t that he didn’t have any literary skill…quite the opposite, in fact. But he couldn’t appreciate the dragging feeling of a book. Compared to watching a movie or playing a video game, or even fighting someone himself in real life…slowly chewing his way through the documentation of the thoughts, speech and actions of a few characters as they experience an adventure was boring and dull to him. But this was a different kind of book. Non-fiction. In the years before Roshi had found the boy, back when Gohan had read stolen novels to pass the time…he would have scowled at those two hyphenated words. Why would he want to read about the real world, if even reading about the fantastical and unworldly was only a slightly entertaining timewaster? For once the book he had was relevant to him, however. ‘Teachings of Elder Ja’kin’ was the title, and it was a teaching of the many powers and traits the Kanassan philosopher had spread among his pupils; hundreds of years ago he had been a highly respected grandmaster, and with his overwhelming mental understanding he had gained equally incredible telepathic powers. This was Gohan’s object of study, for he had found the tome in the library of the Temple of Saljuk, seeking to use it to further strengthen what was already one of his greatest abilities. The drive to become stronger had allowed him to remain focused for a good hour of reading, but he was already beginning to lose concentration. His reading speed was dropping and somewhere between the moment where he saw the words in the book and the moment he knew what they meant…something was faltering. Sentences became meaningless clusters of characters. Attempting to learn more was futile. The Psychic Master sighed as he closed the book and put it down. He would have to resume his studies later, and until then it seemed there was nothing to do. “Oh, don’t think of going to rest just yet…” said a voice behind the Half Saiyan. “Hm?” Gohan turned quizzically to find a Kanassan behind him. “Uh, hey. What do you want?” “I couldn’t help but notice you were struggling with your studies. Is there something you do not understand?” “No…I’m just tired, I guess.” “I am aware of that. But you do not wish to stop just yet, do you? You seek strength. No…not strength. You seek improvement, in all fields. Strength, intelligence, resolve...You’re easy to read. Quite unlike that book in your hands.” “Right…” “Why don’t I help you with your endeavour? Yes, I will do that. Let’s take a look at your mind. Hold still.” Gohan’s new acquaintance reached forward, placing a single hand on the boy’s head. In a moment he felt something he had not felt since he had been at the Spirit Lake with Ja’rel. He and the Kanassan with him were pulled into the boy’s head, their bodies disappearing from the real world and reappearing in Gohan’s subconscious. Xer, the Kanassan who had committed to help Gohan, looked around as he arrived. The place was a completely black expanse for as far as he could see, other than a glowing blue platform under where he stood, and under the spot where his new student was. “It’s very…plain in here,” He said, beginning to walk towards the Half Saiyan. As soon as he lifted his foot into the air it snagged on some sort of invisible tripwire, making the Kanassan fall forwards and off of the blue platform he had been on. He fell several metres below the two platforms before another one appeared below him, stopping his fall. “Agh! Or perhaps not…” Looking back up to where the young Half Saiyan stood, he heard a slight chuckle escape the boy’s lips. “I see…You have a great mind, but you hide it. Even I was at first fooled by the simple appearance, and yet I was being fooled…” he concluded as he jumped back up to where his original platform was. “Something like that,” Gohan replied. “But how sharp are you, exactly? Allow me to test your real wit.” The Half Saiyan turned to face the Kanassan as he heard this. “Test my real wit with what?” “Oh, do not worry. Being at least partly human you should know what a riddle is.” “Oh, riddles? Yeah, I can do those. What have you got?” “Hmm…alright, this is one of my favourites. It is sometimes said among my people that some things are improved by death. Tell me…what stinks while living, but once dead begins to smell good?” Xer stood back in astonishment as, almost immediately after he said this, a huge gathering of objects appeared, seemingly out of nowhere. Animals, foods, and other objects…all of them were things that smelled bad. Thankfully Gohan had blocked their noses, removed all smell from the mental world, or done something else to stop the stench from reaching them. Otherwise…well. One by one, the huge selection of objects Gohan had amassed formed into a line and then flew past him. As they went past, at least one hundred going by a second, one by one they all disappeared. How incredible…the child had summoned everything he knew that smelled bad from his memory and subconscious, and was now eliminating things that couldn’t die or didn’t smell good after death at an incredible rate. He would be done with the thousands of things he had summoned within seconds. Near the end of the line a pink animal went past Gohan, and as it shot by him it did not disappear. It was the pig, a creature from Earth. The remaining few objects and creatures disappeared one by one until only that one pig was left. “Got it,” Gohan said, dematerialising the pig now that he didn’t need it. “Pigs are known for their bad smell, and yet after death their meat can be cooked into multiple foods with pleasant scents. “This…is going to be interesting,” Xer said, sitting down. He raised his hand and materialised a small, round object in it. “Hey, kid! Catch!” He tossed the ball towards Gohan, who caught it. The Half Saiyan studied the object he had retrieved. It was very similar to a Rubik’s Cube, except it was in a ball shape. He was pretty sure they had this kind on Earth as well, though he had never seen one in person. He could do a normal cube with one hand in a minute and thirty one seconds, however. With two hands it was more like fifteen seconds. He once did it in four with telekinesis. After just a few more seconds of analysis he was working, his fingers manipulating the scrambled ball so that each side was populated by only one color. It took him forty two seconds. “Done,” he said, tossing the ball away. “We have stuff like that on Earth, though. If it weren’t for past experience I might not have been able to do it.” Xer was very excited now. The boy quickly tiring from reading had made him seem comparable to some of his students who simply not matured mentally yet. But no, when it came to practical application of intelligence this boy was some sort of mastermind. Incredible. He decided one more challenge would be enough. “Very good. Now tell me, boy…Let’s say that, and obviously this is hypothetical, there are one million, three hundred and twenty thousand, eight hundred and seventy six boxes in a factory. Then, you take away seven hundred and seventeen thousand, one hundred and twenty three of those boxes. Now, how many boxes do you have? No calculators.” “Damn…sounds like you’re running out of ideas and now you’re just throwing big numbers at me,” Gohan said. “But alright.” The Half Saiyan materialised a chair and sat down for a moment to think. He could theoretically do that number in his head if he wanted, but instead he used a pen and paper to make sure he got it right. A moment later he was done. “Alright, I’ve got it,” he announced. “Six hundred and three thousand, seven hundred and fifty three.” “Incorrect,” Xer replied. Finally, he had got this boy. “It’s actually seven hundred and seventeen thousand, one hundred and twenty three. Seven one seven, one two three.” “But…isn’t that the amount we took away?” “Yes. You had no boxes, and then you some from the factory. So now that’s how many you have.” The smile that had been resting on Gohan’s face since he had solved the first riddle was now gone as he realised how stupid he had been. Of course! Why would somebody as smart as Xer give him a ridiculous challenge like subtracting a number from another number, when such a thing could easily be done even with the no calculators restriction he had placed? Gohan had gotten too cocky. “As I expected,” Xer said. In a flash of blue the two disappeared again, as Gohan kicked himself and his new teacher out of his mind and back into the real world. They found themselves back in the Kanassan library. Almost no time had passed. “I thought I had it,” Gohan said. “I didn’t even consider that it was a trick…It seems so obvious now!” “Everything is obvious once you know it, Gohan.” “What do you want, Xer? Why are you giving me all these riddles?” “This is what I do. I love teaching and I love riddles. So I use riddles to teach my students. Today I taught you that, as smart as you are, sometimes you need to think outside of the box.” “I know how to think outside of the box! I do it all the time!” “Why didn’t you do it today, then?” There was a pause between the two as Xer said this. Gohan looked down at the floor in disappointment, unsure how to reply. “I guess…” He began. “I guess it just didn’t seem necessary.” “And yet it was. You know, Gohan, many skills aren’t useful at all if you don’t know when to use them. I will take my leave now, for I feel I have taught you all I need to. Any more development of character to come from what I have said today will result from your own thinking, not from more teaching. Goodbye, Gohan.” Xer was gone then, and the Half Saiyan looked at the book on the table he was sitting at, still waiting. He began to reach back towards the cover, planning to continue where he had left off…but then he stopped. “Fuck it, books are for losers,” he said, standing and walking away. He’d have plenty of time to read when he was old and lazy. 1,806 No Passive |

Rem wandered about the planet of Kanassan colonists. He was taking some time off from his regularly scheduled training and all that mess so that he could relax and such. He had been undergoing an extreme and intense training regimine for the last few weeks so that he could regain and relearn his powers and such and become the warrior of power and such that he had been in his first life. It was going rather well. Already he had relearned the ability of telepathy. It was a strange and wonderful technique. He was able, sometimes, to read the minds of people and such. Mostly, it didn't actually work like that. Typically it was useful mostly in battles and talking to people over long distances. In battle, he sort of got flashes a few moments before they happened. It wasn't something he could nail down, and it didn't happen necessarily when he needed it most, but occasionally the power of his brain or something would overcome the instincts nad mental prowess of someone else, and he would get an instantenous flash of what they were about to do. Sometimes it was the difference between victory and defeat, and he could use that moment or so to do something or whatever necessary to go ahead and dodge, or do whatever was required to keep him in the fight. Whatever, it was cool. As far as talking to his friends, Rem hadn't done that since his previous life. When he had learned the ability that time, he had learned it with a few other guys, and the group had been able to talk with one another over long distances, even across the galaxy if they had needed to. Here, Rem didn't actually know anyone yet that had the ability besides himself. If he could get Sai or Kular to learn it, then perhaps they could again become the group like they had of yore in the previous universe and lives and that would be cool as shit. Anyway, he had learned telepathy. He was making strides on learning telekenesis again. The ability to move shit with his mind would be epic as hell. He remembered, in his previous life, of taking many throwing knives and shit into battle. He would launch himself into some sort of awesome fighting style, and then as he fought he would continually up the ante of the fight more and more. He would use one or two throwing knives with his mind, and then he would escalate to three, more, more. If an opponent made it all the way to forcing rem to use all 10 of his throwing knives and was still alive, then he was a serious opponent to be taken serious. Besides those skills, there was also the astral projection ability. That was was, honestly, kind of useless. Well, not exactly. Rem could use it to spy on people in war or something. But there was little call for that unless he knew exactly who his enemy was, and there was a massive war going on. Not even a usual war, but a war of power where the enemies and shit were super powered like him and actually had a chance to stand against him. Most of the times, it was just as easy as walking in and kicking the ass of anyone who stood in his way. So yeah, pretty damned useless. 566/566/2372 |

As Rem wandered about the planet he eventually ran into someone. He was a guy Rem had never seen before, which wasn't all that surprising since he hadn't been on this planet but for a day or so and had only really met one guy by name, Oday, before he had been attacked and knocked unconscious by the people of this world, the Kanassan colonists who had apparently come here with the express purpose of talking to him and shit before he got outside of their reach. Supposedly, they had come here because he was to eventually need to fight the Unformed again. He still wasn't completely sure he believed that reason, yet. But.. perhaps it was true. Everyone wanted something, however. Everyone had a reason of selfishness for everything they did, even if they didn't consciously realize it. So... why... Anyway, Rem ran into the guy and wondered what the hell he wanted- because he rather obviously wanted to talk to Rem. So Rem went up and talked to him. The guy was a silly fellow, perhaps the strangest Kanassan the Namekian had ever seen. He talked in a weird hitching rhyme and asked Rem to answer a few riddles. They were... okay, they were pretty damn dated ones. Rem had heard of them years before, so it wasn't even that hard to answer them. So he did. he gave the guy the answers he wanted, and that seemed to suffice for him. Rem stood there for a bit, waiting to see what the guy wanted.. But the guy just stood there in front of him as well, not saying a thing, blank faced, and looking at Rem as if he wasnt there, as if waiting for someone else to come along and talk to him. After a few minutes of this weird shit, Rem went ahead and just continued to walk on by the guy, continuing to look awkwardly at the guy as if to wonder if he'd suddenly stop Rem. He didn't, however, simply let him pass by and that was that. 344/910/2716 |
