From the inky depths of space the tiny vessel, the last remnant of the once mighty Xandarian navy hurtled towards Kanassa. There was no possible chance for its pilot to effect a safe landing. That chance was gone, many light years distant in both time and space. He would hurtle down to the planet before him, crashing into it with the full force of more machs than he could mentally figure. His name was Richard Rider, and he was the last Nova. Formerly the Nova Prime of an entire Corps. of Galactic and Planetary Defenders. That... that was all gone, now, however. Now, the man named Nova assumed he was the last survivor of a dead world, and an annihilated people.

"Alright, Rich... you can do this. Odds of surviving a crash decreases exponentially based upon speed. With speed an unknown thanks to all the damage to the ships sensors and controls, we need to set up an escalating coordinate table. Odds of surviving increases based upon strength of armor, and general body toughness... With neither quantity known... math altogether is bullshit and I am rambling to pass the time before my most likely imminent death. Wonderful."

Minutes passed. The ships interior lighting continued to flicker and dance. His control panel would light up for moments, and then go out. All around him space closed in. He had come so far, and this is where it would end. Either his flight from home, or his life- he wasn't sure which... He didn't know which he would prefer, either. If he survived this crash he was going to have to pick up his life and start again. His wife, daughter, friends, comrades, and fellow soldiers were dead. Everyone was dead. How did you just... move on after something like that?

The man named Nova let out a deep, ragged breath and tried to concentrate on those displays and such that were actually working. "Fuck everything." He muttered, and without hesitation or thought, he slammed his fist into the display before him. Shards of plastic, glass, and metal sprayed across the cockpit around him. The displays, obviously, went dark. There was nothing left. Nothing to figure out, nothing to consider, nothing to look at. In minutes he would crash into a new planet in a new galaxy... and either that would be the end, or the beginning- and he would be just fine with either of those...

-----

Nova awoke with a start, and then a scream. His head, turned to the side, could see his arm in a quite unnatural position. It was torn out of the socket, dislocated. Biting his lips, he pulled himself free of the branch that was holding him in place. He dropped a dozen feet to the ground, wounded arm first of course, and roared in pain. Rain was coming down, the ground was muddy, and he hurt. It was a hell of a new beginning. A small part of him wanted to make some connection between his current situation and childbirth, but the greater part of his mind was focused on the pain roiling through him.

Minutes passed, and eventually he managed to drag himself over to a large evergreen- back to it. One arm lay limp across his lap, the other grasped his shoulder, trying to summon the will and courage to snap it back into place. He was alive, at least... Perhaps he should just be grateful for that. But as the rain continued to fall, and the pain continued to build... He almost wished he could have joined the rest of his brethren... It would have been so much easier had he not woken up.

Site Noob until I revenge kill Toma
Gohan snapped awake again, the very first breaths of sunlight beginning to reach through his window.

The fucking nightmares had started again.

He wanted to hit himself, because he knew this was his fault. Last night, he had remembered something he had tried to keep out of his memory for many years now: The timeline he came from. When the Planet Trade Organisation had taken over Earth and many other planets, on the verge of galaxy-wide domination. At the time Gohan had been too young to really understand or care about the organisation killing his family and friends, but he had remembered the worst of them all: King Cold.

King Cold, even in that timeline, had been Supreme Commander of the Planet Trade Organisation. In that timeline, in a few years, would he was the one behind it all. The ‘big bad guy.’ The one who, after Gohan had left, had probably taken over the entirety of the galaxy. It was something he always tried to hide himself. Even as a child he had possessed enough power to be the last line of defence for the entire galaxy. And he had run away without giving anyone a chance to go with him.

And now he knew the same evil man was here, in this timeline, and would probably be doing the same evil things if he had the chance…maybe he’s planning on it? Maybe, in just a few years, Earth will be taken over again. Would Gohan run away a second time…?

Anyway, the thoughts of King Cold taking over the boy’s home galaxy had given him a whole new range of nightmares, having conquered the first few. Now, instead of himself being attacked by King Cold, it was his friends. His mum. Even Goku made an appearance to get slaughtered. The Psychic Master watched all of this happening in a large arena, surrounded by an invisible wall that, no matter what, he could not break.

The theme wasn’t that he would be alone when he fought this monster anymore. It was that he had left the others who couldn’t fight him alone to die. The dreams no longer tormented Gohan because he was scared, but because of an abundance of other emotions. Guilt. Shame. Depression.

Instead of improving his Win’Kai as he had spent the week doing, Gohan left the temple. Grass was squeezed against the dirt and twigs snapped below his feet as the boy walked far away, into the surrounding forest. Then there were the sounds of many different animals and insects. Buzzing, howling, crawling…And then Gohan noticed something else. Not a sound, but a dangerously faint ki signature. Coming from just ahead. His slow walk turned to a run as he jogged past trees and slid under branches that stuck out, into his path. As he reached the signature he was met by a man in obvious pain.

At least one of his limbs had more or less fucked off from the rest of the body, and by the way the man was holding on to his shoulder it almost looked like it was ready to fall out completely. The rest of him was hardly in better shape. The man was battered, broken, and the suit he wore was dotted with cracks and holes.

“Umm…shit,” Gohan muttered as he walked the last few steps between him and the man. He crouched and reached into his pocket, reaching for a bean as, simultaneously, he let his foldaway helmet slide up and click together around his head. With his scouter visor in front of his eyes he scrolled through the GUI, activating his Bio Scanner. With this software his scouter scanned the injured man, listing injuries in order of criticality and possible solutions.

As the list grew and grew as more assessments were made, Gohan stopped his search for a Senzu Bean and instead pulled the whole pouch from his pocket. He would probably need all of them.

This person had been here for at least half an hour, and even when they had first reached the tree they had hardly been in good condition. Resisting, or even speaking at all, would be a difficult feat until at least his most basic healing was done.

Gohan was not at all a doctor, but he had the tools of one. He periodically fed the man Senzu Beans to heal his minor injuries and Energizer Tablets to help him move and speak. He had a medical kit with bandages and other necessary tools, and this also helped him patch up the fellow.

Eventually they were in decent enough condition to speak again, and listen to what Gohan had to say. The Half Saiyan was grateful for this, because the silence around him other than the rain and the forest creatures was terrible.

“I’m Gohan, from the Justice League,” he said. “Uhh…your ki seems pretty strong, especially considering that you were kind of almost dead a few minutes ago. You want to join us? You’d be a pretty good fighter, I imagine.” Whatever the response, as long as it wasn’t a downright ‘no,’ the boy then reached into another pocket and retrieved a piece of paper with his name and Scouter Contact ID on it. He slipped it into the other man’s pocket. “Here’s my card, if you’re into…Justice, and stuff. And killing the Cosmic Empire. You know the Cosmic Empire? We kill them lots. Sometimes they kill us.”

He wasn’t sure what to do about the arm, though. His scouter surely had all sorts of information about how to do a manual relocation, but his Bio Scan informed him that this injury would require an emergency operation that Gohan was not at all prepared to do. Taking hold of the fellow, who thanks to the applied medicines was seemingly in less pain, Gohan vanished from sight.

Using Instant Transmission he reappeared at the closest hospital. Kanassans weren’t known around the galaxy for being experts at medical services, but neither were humans and yet a surgeon on Earth could easily do the required operation. For a surgeon, it wasn’t really that much of an operation.

The boy sat down as his now acquaintance was wheeled away on a stretcher. He was content with the healing he had done, and the fact that after that arm was fixed up the man would be pretty much ‘good as new,’ so to speak. Not bad considering that he had just gone through…well, Gohan wasn’t sure exactly what had landed the man in his predicament, but presumably it had been something pretty big. Like he crashed into the planet or something.

Justice League...

Words floated through the mind of the man named Nova as he was transported, through some seriously impressive feat of magic or technology that he himself had never before seen. Teleportation... A reality in this galaxy? He shivered at the thought of the Kree or Skrull possessing the ability to move their vast fleets across space with a whim, appearing above their victims worlds with no notice, no time to prepare... He would need to figure out how it was done for himself, of course... If he ever did return to the Western Galaxy, it could be of use. Hell, depending on how powerful it was.... he might even be able to use it to get BACK to the western galaxy. Begin some sort of guerrilla campaign from afar.

Cosmic Empire...

Even here, then... Even here there were overpowering political entities dedicated on destruction. Damn... he had hoped that here, at least, things would be different. He was wrong. Everywhere there was tyranny and destruction, everywhere there would be battles between good and evil, the overpowering strong and the unheralded, united weak- just trying to survive, to etch out a living in a cruel universe.

He faded in and out of consciousness for hours. He remembered the face of the young man who has rescued him from his subterranean tomb, had give him some sort of powerful medicine that had saved his life. Gohan? Something like that, he was sure. He had left son after dropping Nova off at the medical facility, but he had given him a card.

Hours after he had been checked in, Nova awoke. His armor was gone, he was wearing a rather thin, revealing hospital gown. IV's ran into his veins, bandages and a sling held his arm close to his chest, elevated a bit. Rider stumbled out of bed, pulling free the IV's and such, searching quickly through the cabinets nearby for his clothes or armor. They weren't there...

The door to the room burst open, a woman in a green smock showing a mixture of horror, and then surprise on her face at the sight of the man standing before the door, half naked. "Where are my things?" Rider asked calmly.

"You must get back in be..." The woman began.

"Where? I have no time... My body self heals, woman." She seemed torn then, then turned as if to run. With a sigh, Nova reached out, grabbed her arm, and held her in place with his massive strength. "Where... before I become impatient." He stared deep into her eyes, showing his sheer indomitable, immovable opinion on the situation at hand.

"Downstairs," she whispered. "Room 34C, patient storage."

He smiled then, pulled her a bit closer... and gave her a hell of a kiss. Her eyes closed, she rose to her tippy toes, and her hand pawed softly at the air as he walked past her, smiling as he did so...

Perhaps he was going to like this universe after all. Now... to find his armor, and hope that its self replicating bio-alley had done its work.
